Life In The 21st Century
The world is changing, and changing fast. Technology, education, health, eating habits, dress there
is hardly anything in life that is not changing, some changes we like, while others create fear and
anxiety. Several predictions were made that the world will end in 2012 based on the rollover of
the Mayan calendar but all these forecasting were proved to be fictitious. On the contrary we are
living in the 21st century, 2025 and the worldhas changed tremendously in the last 13 years. The
world has been transformed by the digital revolution and advances in medicine and human
knowledge. The present day civilization stands on two legs, one is spirituality, and the other is
science.
Today, I woke up and have a coffee. My eyes got baffled to the digital newspaper headlines and it
was written that Colonization on Mars has begun . Then suddenly I remembered my old days
when newspapers were printed on papers. Technology has changed every aspect of life. Now
people are going to live on Mars and the problem of over population has been solved. Then I got
ready and proceed towards my office. Earlier we have to catch an auto or bus to reach our
destination and now the transportation has become so simple that we can travel from one place to
another with ease. Being as an engineer in Metro Services I feel proud to work there because it has
solved the transportation problem. While sitting in the metro I saw the streets which were so clean
that not even a single paper was thrown away. At

Using Deconstructive Criticism to Analyze an Advertisement...
The average American is exposed to an estimated number of about two hundred fifty to five hundred
advertisements in a single day. As unrealistic as the statistic seems, it is because most people are not
often aware of the companies attempt to expose their products through an advertisement to the
consumers unless it is one that is personally appealing to themselves. An advertisement is used to
grab the attention of the audience by means of television, radio, internet, billboards, magazines, and
newspapers. Through the use of media, the advertisers usually create the advertisement to persuade
the audience to take an action after viewing the advertisement or they use the advertisement to
manipulate the audience into believing their product is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tee shirt on the man and the woman are red and pink. Red is a complementary color of green
on a color model, meaning the effect of using these colors together create a vibrant visual in the
viewer s eyes. If the and the woman were both wearing red it would look displeasing to the eye
so they have the woman wear pink instead which still pleases the viewer s eye against the green
background because it is a similar relative color to red. The Newport cigarettes are either blue and
white with highlights of gold or green and white with highlights of gold so they use a lot of similar
colors in their advertisement to represent their product. Not to mention on the color model, blue and
orange are complementary colors.
The body language in the main picture of the man and woman stands out because they use their
genuine, bright smiles to depict pleasure while they enjoy feeding each other a slice of cake. Cake
is a symbolism of fun and happy times which is why the advertisers use cake to portray their
happiness and pleasure. The couple also looks very energetic and eager. This makes the audience
appeal to their product because the audience will believe that they will also feel pleasure from using
their product. The wording in the advertisement is simple and it sends out a message that is
depicted throughout the entire advertisement. Pleasure is synonymous to energy, happiness,
brightness, and enjoyment and the advertisement represents all of

Plastic Pollution And Its Effects On Our Society
Our world has become infatuated with the idea of fast, easy, and comfortable consumption. We ve
grown accustomed to accommodating a fast pace lifestyle but we have forgotten about the
repercussions of our actions. So many products have become single use or disposable, from our
individually wrapped food to our hygiene products. Since the discovery of plasticit has become the
go to material of choice due to its cheap price of production. Unfortunately because of its high
production rate and the fact that it s essentially non biodegradable it has started to consume our
planet from landfills, to rivers, and our oceans. When talking about plastic pollution people usually
think about plastic bags and bottles but another huge product of plastic waste is a toothbrush.
Currently there s about 323,060,000 people in the United states; if you take a very rough estimate
that there s at least 5 million people/ babies who don t have teeth, subtract that from the population,
and then estimate that the average person goes through 3 tooth brushes a year, you end up with
955,800,000 toothbrushes being thrown away per year. That s 1 billion toothbrushes from America
alone, disregarding the fact that your dentist recommends you change your toothbrush at least 4
times a year. Plastic is generally what the average toothbrush is made of. Little plastic beads are
poured into a mold and then heated up till they reach a doughy consistency, rubber detailing is then
added for looks and texture

Plato’S Idea Of Civic Justice Displays A Criteria For...
Plato s idea of civic justice displays a criteria for specialization that holds each individual
responsible for producing their own rendition of excellence that leads to a just life, which
produces a just city, and ultimately civic justice. Plato describes civic justice as ...doing one s own
work provided that it comes to be in a certain way (433b pg.108).
The idea for a just city was constructed in the book, Plato Republic, and in that blueprint, the
ultimate goal was to have a just city, it should also be noted that before Plato there were numerous
theories of Justice. The other theories were proposed by Cephalus, Polymarchus, Trasymachus and
Glaucon all of which Plato did not agree with and all three had one common element. The element

Correspondent to the three elements of human nature are three classes in the social organism,
Guardians which are the rulers or philosopher class or the ruling class which represented
reasoning; the auxiliaries, a class of warriors which guard the city is representative of the spirit;
Producers are farmers, artisans which are basically the lower run of the ladder.
The other side of the coin is the idea of being unjust, Plato describes this as, meddling and
exchange between these classes, there is the greatest harm...and the worst thing one could do to
the city is cause injustice (434c pg109). The meddling and exchange between classes refers to the
idea of not having specialization, consequently this type of behavior is expressed as harmful,
because it leaves room for individuals to produce mediocre abilities.
The idea that jobs were chosen according to one s own abilities and temperament gives an
individual the tools to become the best they possibly can be. If the people were allowed to
choose their own jobs, they might discover down the line that it was a mistake allowing room for
these types of mistakes could cause the city to no longer be considered just, because not all of the
parts would be working toward the common goal. There would be a segment of the population that
would have to find other means for employment which would better suit them; this would be a very
tedious and long process.

How Did The Cleons Punish The Mytilenes
The Mytileneans lacked trust in the Athenians so they started seeking support out of the alliance.
They turned to the Peloponnesians for support to leave the Athenian s. The Peloponnesians agreed
but couldn t provide much help since they were across the ocean. The Mytileneans took actions into
their own hands and started revolting. Word of the revolt got the Athenians and they were not
happy. They went to Mytilene and took every rebel that could be found. The oligarchic leaders of
Mytilene were taken by Athenian general, Paches. The Mytileneans asked that no one be killed
until they were fairly represented in count in Athens. Once at court, the speech of Cleon persuaded

good reasons to punish the Mytileneans. That those emotions shouldn t get in the way of good
judgement. Diodotus brings into the speech that opposing views should not make the citizens
blind to the right decision. He states, A good citizen should not go about terrifying those who
speak against him, but should try to look better in a fair debate (iii:42). Diodotus is speaking

the majority of the assembly, that they must stand for what the believe not what others believe

punishment imposed on the Mytileneans would benefit them. He states, Even if I proved them
guilty of terrible injustice, I still would not advise the death penalty for this, unless that was to our
advantage. Even if they deserved to be pardoned, I would not have you pardon them if it did not
turn out to be good for the city (iii:44). He s clearly telling the assembly that if the punishment put

Feminist Movement Pros/Cons
In the 1960 s women in America were expected to marry in their early 20 s and start a family. Back
then not many women worked, most stayed at home and took care of the children. Now, in the year
2017, women have equal rights to men and are now a very important part of the workforce.
Although the Feminist movement is giving women equal treatment to men there are also feminists
who believe that women should be indistinguishable to men, this form of radical feminism is
harmful for it gives feminists a bad name.
Men and women should be equal under law even though their obvious biological differences. But,
in other parts of life, it must be known that men and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Radical Feminism has created an area of unsureness of what is permissible to say to a female. Is it
okay to compliment a woman on her dress, or is that considered sexual harassment? This is why
most choose words carefully when complimenting a woman.
There are certain compliments are offensive to women without any discussion. These types of
compliments often use phrases like, even though you are woman or despite being a woman these
compliments are offensive because they suggest that being a woman is a setback and that women
are less capable than men at accomplishing something. On Sunday, June 7, 2015 Indian Prime
Minister Narendra Modi caused an uproar on twitter when he complimented the Prime Minister of
Bangladesh on her stance on terrorism by saying, I am happy that, she, despite being a woman, has
declared zero tolerance for terrorism. Women all over the world who were rightfully outraged by
Modi s comment that it s unusual for a woman to make a firm statement against terrorism.
Supposed compliments, like Modi s despite being a woman comment, are more than just rude. They
perpetuate damaging stereotypes about what it means to be a woman, and indirectly tell women
that, whatever their accomplishments are, they will continue to be seen as female first, and as
professionals second.
Although feminism has it s bad parts, the feminist movement was a very liberating for women who
had to stay home and where required to be married to own land. wives bore the

My Education Experience
It all started that first day of kindergarten, as my grandma took a picture of me in my blue skirt
and Barbie lunch box that today would start the rest of my life. We waited for the bus to come
pick my brother and me up. That summer we made the decision to attend public school. From that
moment, I knew my life was going to change, now I was going to the same elementary schoolthat
my dad had attended. I got on the bus with the confidence to start my educationthe best I could.
My experiences that happened throughout K 12 schools, I say were pretty generic, nothing crazy
happened. My education started in Indiana, where the environment and standards were a bit
different from South Carolina. The thing that stood out the most is the use of yes ma am and no
sir , this was expected to be said in school, while up North I could have said yes or no. I connected
more with my teachers in Elementary school than I ever did with middle and high school. The first
two years of elementary school, of what I could remember is what group did I fit in, who can I
see myself being friends with. What I remember the most from elementary school were my
teachers from the second and third grade. My second grade teacher was also my brother s teacher
also my dad s first grade teacher. Mrs. Baylette she was an older woman, was allergic to milk.
When doing multiplication tables, if you got them all right within a span of a month or, so she and
the student teacher would take you out for dinner. With my

Lucretius Beliefs
Epicurus supported that the images people had for gods were varying due to the different
preconceptions that had been implanted to every person separately. Very often there were false
convictions expressed by people even if their preconceptions reflected their own natural goals.
Lucretius protested against voices who presented gods as having evil intents and as prone to
partiality and fury: Unhappy human race, to attribute such behavior, and bitter wrath too, to the
gods! What lamentations did they lay up for themselves in those days, what wounds for us, what
tears for our descendants ? Moreover, Lucretius stated: Unless you expel these ideas from your

Even Epicurus followers were confused and perplexed by Epicurus theology such as Lucretius and
Cicero s Vellius who combined information and syllogisms that satisfied realists as well as idealists.
Both interpretative parties had their own reasons to attach Epicurus both to the realistic and the
idealistic context and both of them had to defend their theories against arguments that worth
consideration. I personally believe that Epicurus was more an idealist than a realist. He obviously
stated that there are gods a statement that could easily describe him as a realist but the fact that he
encouraged people to construct the conception of god and that their true nature, lifestyle and way
of thinking were completely unknown to people compel me to believe that Epicurus was idealist
and gods were merely thought constructs articulating people s unrealistic view of the life they
desired. Philodemus mentioned that Epicurus involved himself in all the traditional festival and
sacrifices . However, this attestation does not prove that Epicurus was surely devoutly religious
and believed that gods were existing living beings; he could have acted in that way to give a boost
to his social status or even to protect himself from the dangerous accusations of

Bach, Johann Sebastian Bach And Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Fugue Bach Shostakovich

Comparative Fugal Analysis
The fugue is often regarded as a genre defined by strict procedural guidelines. It is notable that
three historically important composers, Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 1750), Georg Friedrich
Handel (1685 1759), and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart(1756 1791), all employed a closely related
fugue subject in three different works. An analysis of each of these works individually, and a
comparison of these works collectively reveal numerous latent and salient features, and a
reflection of the composers style within these works. Analyses also provide an outlook into the
fluidity in certain aspects and rigidity in others of the form itself, reflected historically. The three
composers analyzed fall closely together in history. J.S. Bach and G.F. Handel were
contemporaries, whereas Mozart was born six years after Bach s death and three years before
Handel s death. Analytically, the angularity of these similar fugue subjects presupposes a treatment
regardless of the composer. Because of the shared intervallic content among the subjects of these
fugues, despite being written by several different composers, a surprising number of similarities
arise. Therefore, it is reasonable to assert that compositional choices made in the construction of the
fugue subjects limit the number of results possible.
This analysis will use the A minor fugue from of J.S. Bach s The Well Tempered Clavier, Book 2

In the effort of the competition, the White Star Line came up with an idea of creating a massive,

passengers among their cruise line. This was made known to the public through the pride the
Titanic had earned it s fleet, for it was the largest moving man made object ever recorded before

power over the same region. Usually the higher national government governs the issues that concern

William Shakespeare s Henry V, King Henry And The French...
What constitutes honor in society? In Henry V, King Henry and the French invoke its constitution
to incite men into war. Although the reasons that the English and French countrymen fight differ,
the thought of honorably serving their countries stands alone as enough impetus to thrust both
onto the battlefield. But how can honor command such incentive? The answer stems from
individualistic pride. The characters in Henry V see how, as a collective, society has objectively
agreed that service to one s country merits honor, but each character, as an individual, chooses to
strive towards that honor because of his or her own pride. This notion of individualistic pride
both consciously and subconsciously drives daily action. And in Henry V, the insidious intent of
pride eclipses the known vicious nature of war. The motivation for King Henry to wage war on
France, the subsequent response of France s leadership, and the action of the English countrymen
emanates from the notion of honor, but how each individual responds to the desire to fulfill his
pride ultimately shapes the field of Agincourt (4.7.86). Henry V illustrates how honor and pride
craft the nature of war. King Henry s yearning for honor and the challenges to his pride that he
receives from his wild younger days instigates him to pursue war with France. He understands the
magnitude of war, even probing the archbishop of Canterbury s argument to challenge the Salic
law: For God doth know how many now in health / Shall

The Music Of Bali And Its History, Beliefs, And Values,...
Introduction
Gamelan is a term for various types of orchestra played in Indonesia. As Indonesia entails 17000
islands, there are many different styles of gamelan, and no gamelan orchestra is considered to be
the same as another (See Y S, 2000). The music of Bali a Hindu island afloat in a Muslim sea was
described by the American composer Colin McPhee as the stirring mystery of a thousand bells
(Gordon, 1994). Varieties of gamelanare distinguished through tunings, style, cultural context and
the collection of instruments used. The varieties are generally grouped geographically, with certain
styles being shared by nearby ensembles, therefore leading to a regional style (See Y S, 2000).
Balinese gamelan is the main element of Indonesian traditional music as well as belonging to the
sacred elements of their culture. Throughout the following investigation, the style of Balinese

Rhetorical Analysis Of Death By Treacle
KNH 21T Rhetorical Analysis Essay, Death by Treacle Pamela Haag s article, Death by Treacle,
offers a unique take on false sentimentality and pseudo intimacy promoted by today s society. She
claims that makeshift iconography has led to becoming undoubtedly less caring because of the
constant push for sentimentality. Haag s examples point to the increased fundraising initiatives that
are prevalent in American culture as being the culprit that leads to a lifestyle of intimacy lite. She
uses rhetorical devices such as visuals, narration, research and expert opinions to validate this claim.
The opening of Haag s article begins with an illustration of an emoticon with exclamation points as
the eyes, nose, and mouth. This symbol represents her mistrust of the exclamation point. She
visualizes the sad face emoticon that most people are familiar with today, but Haag suggests that
the excessive overuse of the exclamation point allows for users to be falsely or unnecessarily
emotional. She exclaims, The exclamation point is used with unprecedented, hyperventilating
frequency in correspondence, deployed to soften underlying hostilities or to gin up excitement
where no true reason for it suggests itself. This reasoning leads the entire article s mood, where the
readers are encouraged to think critically about why and how they use exclamation points and
emoticons. Haag utilizes the rhetorical device of narration throughout the article. Her first narrative

Pathetic Fallacy In The Red Pony
The fourth theme of nature is that the natural events imply profound messages. In The Red
Pony, it is described by the pathetic fallacy. This literary term refers to the presentation of
inanimate objects in nature as possessing human feelings. Steinbeck especially uses the weather
to foreshadow upcoming events and to symbolize the mood and emotion of the characters. For
example, rain is one of the causes of death in this story. In The Gift, Jody wishes that it does not
rain before Thanksgiving. Jody s father has told Jody that he can ride the pony on the day of
Thanksgiving, because it will be all grown up by then. Jody tries to act on his father s words, so

Qualities And Values That Made Jeff Skilling An Effective...
A few traits and values that made Jeff Skilling an effective leader were charisma, intelligence, and
inspiration. Although there were many more traits and values that helped Skilling to be an
effective leader, it is these three that I believe contributed the most to his effectiveness as the CEO
and leader of Enron. One of the single most important traits to possess in order to be an effective
leader is charisma. Jeff Skilling exuding charisma and was able to convince the media, shareholders,
employees, and everyone in between that he was acting in their interest and running a company
with integrity and honesty. Skilling s charisma can be seen in many instances during his career at
Enron, but one of his more striking instances of charismatic leadershipwas how he was able to
influence all of the workers at Portland General Electric to convert their 401k s into company stock
(Gibney, 2005). Though this may sound like a relatively commonplace act, it took massive amounts
of charisma to gain the trust and confidence of an entire company s employees. Another trait that
Jeff Skilling possessed in order to be an effective leader was intelligence. Skilling was a highly
intelligent man and used that intelligence to build Enron into the seventh largest corporation in the
United States until its eventual downfall. According to Biography.com, Skilling received a B.S. in

For instance, The battle of Trenton on Christmas Eve in 1776 proved the colonist were dedicated
and a capable force. The colonists were wary about fighting the very powerful Hessian, therefore on
Christmas Eve, they planned a sneak attack to defeat them. The patriots marched and fought in icy
and poor conditions before dawn, hoping to defeat the powerful Hessians. After the surprise attack
the Colonists had totaled 2 dead and 5 wounded. The Hessians had 22 dead and 90 wounded and
918 captured. This victory would change the image of the colonist s army and bring about great
change. After the battle of Trenton, they were now viewed as a definite threat to the British. On the
other hand, the battle of Saratoga gave the colonist hope for the upcoming battles. On October
17th,1777 the colonist surrounded General Burgoyne and his army continue to hold strong, the
army fought until the British surrendered to the colonist. This was significant for the colonist
because the British surrendered to the colonist. This showed the British that the colonist held up a
good fight and that this war was going to be long and hard. In conclusion, this

Age Of Voting Essay
In the article, Takoma Park 16 year old savors his history making moment at the polls, by Annys
Shin, many teens who are 16 17 years old can now vote during the election. The decision was made
by the Takoma City Council that in Montgomery County Community, they are the first ones in the
nation to lower their votingage from 18 16 years old. A group of 350 students from Montgomery
Blair High School were granted the right to vote in electionsand one of the student who got the
right to vote, Ben Miller had said, It s a valuable Privilege, and he means that it is a great
advantage that many 16 17 years old can now vote. Many young adults who are the age of 18 are
most likely not a good age to vote because many of them are planning to leave their childhood
homes. And they can lack of discipline and causes them not to vote.
In my position I agree to lower the age of voting to 16 17 years old because it can raise up the
percentage of voting. Many people are not voting because they don t believe it can help them and
their community also with the support from 16 17 years old, it can show a huge difference on
how the votes are increasing little by little. Also it can gives them experience on what s the voting

Use Of Pinctuations In A Midsummer Night s Dream By...
We live in a world of plummeting punctuation standards according to Ms.Truss. Many people don t
take punctuation seriously. Many people think it s useless. There are many punctuation mistakes,
no matter where one looks. Eats, Shoots, and Leaves is about how careless many people are with
the use of punctuations and why they are very important to modern day English. She shows how
punctuations were used correctly and incorrectly in older literature pieces. She gives a list of how
to correctly use commas, exclamation points, etc. She also references other punctuation
/grammatical books. Unlike many of Shakespeare s pieces, Eats, Shoots, and Leaves is against the
punctuation Shakespeare used in his writing.
Punctuation can change a sentence drastically. For example We do not come as minding to content
you, our true intent is. All for your delight we are not here. William Shakespeare, A Midsummer
Night s Dream,Act V, scene i. This sentence has many punctuation errors. Shakespeare writes our
true intent is. All for your delight instead of putting a comma he uses a period, this makes the text
dramatic, but punctually incorrect.Since Shakespeare has authority in the literature community, he
was idolized for the punctuation error. Many people like Shakespeare deliberately defied
punctuations and the writing was a success. If you misplace a punctuation ... Show more content on

Constitutional Developments During The Period Between 1860...
During the period between 1860 and 1877, many major changes occurred in America. There were
many constitutional developments in this time period, which include the Emancipation
Proclamation, the Civil War, and newly added Amendments. There were also many social
developments included the Ku Klux Klan and voting of black people. Some of these
developments were a revolution, which is a forcible overthrow of the government or social order
in favor of a new system, and some were not.
The constitutional developments started when the South tried to secede from the Union. The
election of the anti slavery Republican, Abraham Lincoln, as president in 1860 caused seven
southern states to secede from the Union to form the Confederate States of America. Four more
states tried seceding by using the 10th amendment, which declared the powers not delegated to the
United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states. The
secession of Southern states caused a Civil War, which was, by itself, not a revolution. The Civil
War is considered America s bloodiest clash , which started in 1861 and ended in 1865. The Union
was pitted against the Confederate States and resulted in the death of more than 620,000, with
millions more injured. The war was over issues including states rights versus federal authority,
westward expansion, and slavery.
Two years into the Civil War, Lincoln issued the preliminary Emancipation Proclamationon
September 22nd, 1862.

Edelman s Examination Of Earback Culture
The consequences of Edelman s theoretical explorations in No Future, and Dean s examination of

anthropological analyses of queer culture through the lens of psychoanalysis open a whole new

The real, the sexual instincts, and the organic cell are under the same heading because the real is
impossible to imagine, impossible to integrate into the symbolic order, and impossible to attain in
any way (Ross; quoting Evans and Bowie). It is the impossibility of the real that links it to the
sexual and death instincts (which are essentially the same thing), and the organic cell. To illustrate,
Heidegger s being towards death is the source of his foundational anxious attunement, but being
towards death is not the same as being towards the end (Heidegger 245). It is Heidegger s
distinction between knowing I will surely die someday, and I am dying right now that draws the
death instinct into agreement with the organic cell. This is to say that, while the biological need to
reproduce drives the death instinct, any awareness of the purpose (or expression) of this need
cannot be internalized. Likewise, one cannot be aware of their biological imperative (per the
organic cell) for immortality through reproduction; these desires and instincts are not repressed,
they are beyond the scope of human comprehension. Moving on to the next column, the imaginary,
the ego instincts, and the conscious cell are linked together as they lie within the realm of
unarticulated (but articulable) identifications and idealisations which are the building blocks of
fantasy and ego; it is the most

Main Characters In Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman (raised as Diana, princess of the Amazons) was trained for most of her life on
Themyscira to be an unconquerable warrior. But when she saves a drowning pilot who tells her
of the wars going on outside of her sheltered paradise she is convinced she can stop the conflict.
Fighting alongside four men and a secretary she finally discovers who, or rather what she is.
The main character of the film (played by Gal Gadot), Wonder Woman is based on a DC comics
character who goes by the same name. The film is directed by Patty Jenkins while the screenplay is
by Allan Heinberg.

Although I m not a fan of the insane villain trope for me this takes a slightly interesting twist on
said trope because she is doing a job, not a kind, nice or good job but a job nonetheless.
The thing that worries me about Doctor Poison is that DC (if the character is present in the future)
will go down the overplayed and unhelpful route of her being bitter about her facial injury. After
binge watching many super hero movies it shocks me how the overwhelming majority rely on a
villain being disabled and because of that wanting revenge. It frustrates me the messages these
villains send to kids.
I hope that DC in the future continues to explore her as a character but in a way that aids the
need for strong female leads. The questions that need to be asked are What if she lived in a time
and place where women could pursue science and achieve and excel without the blessing,
permission, or aid of men? [And] what if it were possible for her work to garner respect without
needing to be connected to some greater, generally masculine goal? {6}. With the possibility of a
sequel DC has a chance to break the traditional super villain mould and have a well developed
character who doesn t need to ask for forgiveness .

Analysis Of A Beautiful Mind
I chose the film A Beautiful Mind produced in 2001.
The main character is John Forbes Nash, Jr. portrayed by Russell Crowe.
The heart, not the mind is where the true meaning of life is found. A mathematical genius who is
fixated on finding an original idea to ensure his legacy embarks on a mission with the belief that
mathematics will lead him to a higher truth. I cannot waste time with these classes and these
books, memorizing the weak assumptions of lesser mortals. I need to look through to the
governing dynamics. Find a truly original idea. That s the only way I ll ever distinguish myself. It
s the only way that I ll ever [matter].
An inspiring journey to self awareness and a first hand look inside the mind of a man that struggles
with love, solitude, desperation, determination and delusions. In A Beautiful Mindis where you will
see how real, and how completely supportable the delusions of a schizophrenic appear to the person
afflicted. Genius and schizophrenia can both exist in the same personality. He had been looking for
the meaning of life in the logic of the mind and reason, but found it rather in the logic of the heart
and the love of another human being.
Very rarely will a film allow us to observe mental illness such as schizophrenia from inside the
mind of the afflicted. A Beautiful Mind does this very well by appealing to our moral sense.
Throughout the first half of the film, we are introduced to characters and situations that we are led to

A Summary Of The Apocalypse Of Adolescence
Introduction
Adolescence is popularly known to be a very tumultuous stage in a person s life. In the adolescent
stage (also coined the identity vs. role confusion stage by theorist Erik Erikson) bodies are changing
rapidly, emotions are unfamiliar and unexplainable, and refraining from succumbing to peer
pressure is more challenging than ever.
Erikson theorizes that in such a period, adolescents have certain tasks, one of which is identifying
who they are. An individual successfully completes the task by staying true to his or her self,
whereas when a person fails that stage, it leads to role confusion; consequently creating a weak
sense of self. (Block 2011). The stage also entails a variety of personal challenges and limitations
faced as well as a series of needs to be met, including: attention, guidance, independence, stability,
and acceptance, among other needs. Meeting an adolescent s needs is fundamental to their healthy
development and personal growth. Nevertheless, adolescence remains as puzzling of a period in
time for both the teens experiencing it, as well as for the individuals surrounding them, watching
them as they navigate through the trials that adolescence brings them.
Analyzing the Apocalypse of Adolescence

murders that ocurred in the state of Vermont, at the hands of troubled young teens. He explores the

Baroque Religion
The Church also used Baroque music to counter the spread of Protestantism. Baroque music
intended to lift the soul towards God and Heaven with its grandeur. Baroque music was also used
for a greater reason: communication. Music has the power to convey to people powerful
emotions, whether good or bad (About the Baroque Period). One time, Sieur Claudin Le Jeune, a
musician, sang an air, a song, and that when this air was rehearsed at a private concert it caused a
gentleman there to put hand to arms and begin swearing out loud, so that it seemed impossible to
prevent him from attacking someone: whereupon Claudin began singing another air...which
rendered the gentleman as calm as before (Ibid) (Glossary of Musical Terms). Evidently, emotions

Baroque art and paintings were meant to teach people, to educate them about the Catholic Faith
(Schroeder). Paintings depicted saints and stories from the Bible. The Baroque style, furthermore,
was filled with many colors and drastic light differences that caught the eye and appealed to the
senses (Baroque Art). Furthermore, dramatic Baroque painting, such as a crucifixion picture, could
have had great effects on people and cause great emotions to rise in people (Fiero). These emotions
could lead to a greater devotion to our Lord, Mary, or a saint. Also, these painting and sculptures,
with their magnificence and splendor, aided in meditation and prayer. Baroque style focused on the
moment, what was happening at that specific second; this would also have had helped the faithful
in their contemplation or meditation (Baroque Art). Baroque art, therefore, could also be used to
deepen faith and piety. The architecture of the Baroque, for example churches, was styled with
huge, magnificent buildings and great arches (Fiero). These buildings and arches reminded the soul
about the greatness of God, and they pointed people towards Heaven when the people looked up.
Churches were adorned with spectacular paintings and sculptures, which reminded people about
how beautiful God is. On a much smaller scale, the art and architecture might have drawn some
people to the Church because of the beauty of the art and churches. The Catholic Church wielded
the Baroque style with great vigor and force to combat

The Consumption Of Cow Milk, It Has Become Highly Consumed...
Introduction Since the discovery of the nutritional benefits associated with the consumption of
cow s milk, it has become highly consumed within the western diet and worldwide (Kanekanian
2014). However, health concerns arose in the late nineteenth and early twentieth Centuries due
to an increase in infant mortality and milk borne illnesses relating to the consumption of raw
cow s milk (Knechtges 2012). This became an increasing public health concern and highlighted
the growing need to introduce and enforce laws and legalisations relating to the processing and
sale of cow s milk. In 1864 Louis Pasteur discovered pasteurisation was an effective processing
method for destroying pathogenic microorganisms responsible for foodborne illness present in
beverages; prolonging its life and quality (Brown 2015). Current laws and legislations now state
milk must undergo this process before being sold for retail sale and intended for human
consumption. Yet, there is still a growing demand for the sale of raw cow s milk due to beliefs in
greater nutritional benefits if consumed. This creates a growing public health concern to ensure
safe laws and legislations are in place and practice. This paper investigates the introduction of a
new milk processing technique allowing for the sale of raw milk which undergoes a high water
pressure processing (HPP) technique and whether it is an effective alternate processing method.
Moreover, it identifies the human health risks associated with the

Ultra Running Research Paper
Ultra running is an extreme sport enjoyed by few that involves pushing the human body to its limits
by running distances further than a standard twenty six point two mile marathon. The modern
marathon race and distance came from Greek history when a soldier named Phidippides ran 26.2
miles from the town of Marathonto the capital of Greece, Athens to deliver a message. Although
running extreme distances was sometimes a necessity in ancient times, modern ultra runners
simply have a love for it. Some popular ultra marathon races include: the Leadville Trail 100, the
Badwater 135, the Le Grand Raid, and the Jungle Ultra.
The men and women who enjoy these races are quite different from the average person or even the
occasional runner. Ultra runners put themselves through rigorous training and pay very close
attention to their diet and nutritional intake. Another trait that sets ultra runners apart from the
average person is their mindset and great mental strength. Ultra runners receive happiness from the
physical exertion of running extensive distances. Although ultra runners are generally healthier than
the average American, there are some health problems that come from running extreme distances,
including: increased stress fractures in the feet, increased allergies, and increased asthma.

one of his sisters, Laurine, taught him how to play a piano(3). Laurine also influenced to his
musical world by introducing him to ragtime and opera (6). From 1913 to 1917, he took his first
formal piano lessons from Leopold Wolfsohn (3, 6). Wolfsohn introduced him to the pieces of the

aspects of European music (6). He attended to numerous concerts and plays during his years in
Paris. He featured the works of European modern composers such as Stravinsky and Milhaud.
When Copland completed his studies in 1924, Boulanger requests him to compose a work for her

first orchestral score. Boulanger played the piece on January 11th, 1925 in New York, United

Copland s organ symphony and began to support Copland s works.
After completing the Symphony for Organ and Orchestra, he returned to United States (1). He
noticed that there was an artistic rebellion at the New York City while he was in France. The
mindset and the work of musicians in New York became much more progressive. In New York,

Battle Of Vimy Ridge Research Paper
Pre 1950
The Battle of Vimy Ridge took place in April 1917. This battle was the most intricately planned
operation on the Western front by the Allied troops during World War One. It was led by
Canadian General, Sir Arthur Currie, and was the first time all four Canadian Corps fought
together in the war. It was also the first time Canadian troops, led by a Canadian, shared a total
Canadian victory. This battle was a defining event for Canada, as it was a major step in achieving
full independence from the British. It was important for the growth of Canadian nationalism and
pride.
Alberta s Famous Five were a group of accomplished Canadian women involved in the Persons
Case of 1927. At the time, The Constitution stated what requirements had to be met for a person to
be delegated into the Canadian Senate, and other government jobs. For years, it had been a given
that by a person they meant a man. The five women challenged Parliament and asked them whether
or not women were seen as persons. When the case went to the Supreme Court of Canada in 1928,
it was ruled that the Constitution meant persons as in men. However, when the British Privy
Council heard of this decision, they vetoed it, and so ruled that women were indeed persons and
eligible to be appointed to the Senate. In Canada, this was an important step forward for the women

Cooperation for loans to cover 60% of the cost. By comparison, it took the city of Kolkata 22 years
to build its own metro because of a paucity of funds.
Second, Sreedharan scoured the world for top companies with extensive experience in the field.
Pacific Consultants International from Japan advised on the engineering matters, Korea s Rotem
and Japan s Mitsubishi supplied the initial shipment of coaches, while France s Alstom led the
consortium responsible for the design of the automatic train control system.
Delhi Metro Rail An Introduction
Delhi, the capital city of India, is one of the fastest growing cities in the world with a population
of 13 million as reported in the Census of India Report for the year 2000. Until recently, it was
perhaps the only city of its size in the world depending almost entirely on roads as the sole mode
of mass transport. The total length of the road network in Delhi has increased from a mere 652
km in 1981 to 1122 km in 2001 and it is expected to grow to 1340 km in the year 2021. This
increase in road length is not at par with the phenomenal growth in the number of vehicles on these
roads in Delhi. The cumulative figure of registered private and government buses, the

Teacher Interview and Observation
The teacher interviewed and observed was Mrs. Linda Grill, she has twenty eight years of
experience. Her first ten years of teaching were at an inner city school in Los Angeles, where she
said, I was the only white person there. For the last eighteen years she has been teaching a variety
of grade levels at Aurthur Hapgood Elementary in Lompoc, current she teaches kindergarten. As I
work at the same school as Mrs. Grill, I interview her almost daily, for the purpose of this paper
the majority of the interview was completed two days before the observation. The formal
observation of a kindergarten math lesson occurred on Friday September 16th at 10:10 am,
immediately following the morning recess.
Teacher Interview Summary Mrs. Grill was able to provide an abundance of useful information
regarding her kindergarten class and also explained how she acquires this information, as many of
her students are entering school for the first time. The students linguistic background is identified at

students are then given a formal assessment, by bilingual team and rated as either beginner,
intermediate or advanced in their ability to speak and understand English. Content knowledge and

Effects Of Imperialism In 1914
1. Introduction: The British Empire
An important feature of the Queen Victoria s reign was the rise of imperialism in United Kingdom.
The United Kingdom and the territories under its control reached its greatest expansion in the 19th
and 20th century, during the Victorian Era.
Between 1815 and 1914, many territories of the world, such as Canada, India Australia or many
parts of Africa, were added to the British Empire, which brought many negative repercussions for
the rest of the globe (for instance, the empire created class and wealth divisions in England).
The British Empire in 1914
One negative consequence of the British expansion, which I am going to explain briefly in this
project, is the racial oppression that non white people suffered mainly because of the English
conquest of their territories: British people thought that they were the best race ... Show more

British people thought that social classes were the result of personal achievement and aptitude.
The separation of classes was significant because each person had to keep to their assigned place in
society:
The English poor man or child is expected always to remember the condition in which God has
placed him, exactly as the negro is expected to remember the skins which God has given him. The
relation in both instances is that of perpetual superior to perpetual inferior, of chief to dependent,
and no amount of kindness or goodness is suffered to alter this relation. (LГ©vi Strauss 285)
However, as mentioned above, not only non white people were treated with contempt in the
Victorian Age. In the nineteenth century, a lot prejudices towards the Irish began to arise: they
were an example of a inferior evolutionary form of the human

The Life of Geroge Armstrong Custer
Synopsis: George Armstrong Custer was a West Point graduate who attained military promotions
to brigadier general and major general in the regular army on March 13, 1865 and major general
of volunteers April 15, 1865 during the American Civil War. Later in 1870 s, Custer moved to the
west to fight in the Indian Wars. On June 25, 1876, a battle at Little Bighorn against Lakota and
Cheyennewarriors was fought where he led 210 men. Custer and all of his men were killed in the
battle. The battle, also known as Custer s Last Stand, was part of the Black Hills War against a
confederation of Plains Indians, including the Cheyenne and Dakota Sioux. It is considered one
of the most controversial battles in U.S. history. A cavalry commander in the United States
Army, Custer fought in both the Indian Wars as well as the Civil War. He was born and brought
up in Ohio and Michigan and West Point admitted in 1858. During the Civil War he gained a
reputation that was strong because of whom he associated with. The Battle of Bull Run was his
first major involvement. He had a temporary promotion to major general but returned to captain
at the end of the war. After the Civil Wars, he left for the west and the Indian Wars. He led the 7th
Cavalry in the battle of Washita River. Later, in 1873, he was sent to the Dakota Territory to help
protect a railroad survey crew from attacks by the Lakota Indians.

Voltaire s Candide And Dostoyevsky s Notes From Underground
The vital notion of moderation was first given precise archetypal denotation by Aristotle. Aristotle
described moderation as the equilibrium between two extremes; for example, the person who
never takes any risks is frightened, while the person who consistently takes risks is reckless
(Parry). Therefore the person who is a balance of the two, not too cowardly but not too
irresponsible, has attained the impeccable balance of moderation. While there have been many
brilliant works created to provide emphasis to the importance of moderation, two philosophers in
particular, Voltaireand Dostoyevsky, have conceivably accomplished the most exemplary job of
delivering evidence in Voltaire s Candideand Dostoyevsky s Notes From Underground. Each use the
two concepts of reasoning and currency in different ways to express the importance of moderation.
In contemporary society, daring to ask a pertinent question on a social platform is feasibly one of
the most daunting tasks one can make. Riddled with a maelstrom of potentially traumatizing
consequences, giving voice to a serious enquiry over a serious subject is even more of an arduous
enterprise. Still, regardless of the details of the responses themselves, the act of asking and
answering a serious question shows something even more significant: the ability to think. In both
Candide and Notes from Underground, thought and the impact of reason are the most important
concepts discussed, though Voltaire and Dostoyevsky use different

How Facebook Can Generate Leads On Pinterest
How To Generate Leads On Pinterest
Do you love Pinterest but aren t sure you re using it as well as you could for your business? Feel
like you re missing something?
You just might be.
Pinterest is so much more than pretty pictures of pretty things. It s an increasingly popular,
increasingly successful platform for marketing, with some sources citing a single Pin worth 78 cents
in real world sales.
But not everyone succeeds on the platform. Pinterest has far and away the most gender targeted
audience of the top 6 social platforms. We re talking about a social site with an 80 percent female
user base. For those businesses that know how to connect on it, though, it s becoming the most
exciting platform with the most exciting opportunities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This environment also is perfect for a lead generation contest, as 70 percent of Pinterest users use
the platform to get inspiration on what to buy (compared to 17 percent on Facebook). This creates
an environment where people actively want the things they see.
Tip #1: Ensure your Pinterest images are in portrait mode and roughly 600 pixels by 900. Compress
them to below 100 KB there are hundreds of image compressing tools online if possible.
Step by step:
On your website (or on Facebook or Twitter with a 3rd party app), create a visually appealing
landing page devoted to your contest. Create a contest in which users pin images of your
products or their favorite related images onto their own boards. Decide on a prize closely related
to your business. (This ensures leads are genuinely interested in your products, instead of simply a
cash prize or random iPad.) Email gate entry to the contest by requiring that entrants provide their
email address before they can enter to win (lead generation!). On the entry form, ask entrants to
enter the URL of the Pinterest board they re submitting. You can either choose the winner of your
pin to win contest yourself or (with a 3rd party app) open the contest to voting. Voting encourages
entrants to share and promote their pinned images (and therefore your brand) across their own social

Dtl s Power Grid Analysis
The potential impact of a breach to DTL s power grid can significantly affect not just the 5.4 million
customers, but can have cascading effects across to the other sectors. The electric grid has many
interdependencies with the other sectors that link corporate systems together, providing access to
customers, suppliers, and other entities (Zhen, 2013). The threat is goes beyond the proprietary
information and other sensitive information contained in the corporate systems, there is also the
threat to the control systems that are tied in to these networks. Besides the immediate impact to
DTL s infrastructure, the Federal government sector could be affected by a breach in two ways. The

Once upon a time there was an old woman. Blind but wise. Or was it an old man? A guru,
perhaps. Or a griot soothing restless children. I have heard this story, or one exactly like it, in the
lore of several cultures.
Once upon a time there was an old woman. Blind. Wise.
In the version I know the woman is the daughter of slaves, black, American, and lives alone in a
small house outside of town. Her reputation for wisdom is without peer and without question.
Among her people she is both the law and its transgression. The honor she is paid and the awe in
which she is held reach beyond her neighborhood to places far away; to the city where the
intelligence of rural prophets is the source of much amusement.
One day the woman is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

mastery, and cannot, do not permit new knowledge or encourage the mutual exchange of ideas.
The old woman is keenly aware that no intellectual mercenary, nor insatiable dictator, no paid for

Inside Job Is A Documentary That Covers The 2008 Financial...
Inside Job is a documentary that covers the 2008 financial crisis. The first part of the documentary
focuses on what led to the financial meltdown. In the 1980 s the finance industry exploded after
investment banks went public, leading these firms to have an excess of stockholder s money. Then
the president at the time, Ronald Reagan, began a 30 year period of financial deregulation. Reagan
deregulated savings and loan companies which allowed them to make risky investments with
depositor s money, which led to taxpayers paying $124 billion dollars when they inevitably failed.
Executives in these companies were also stealing money from their depositors. Another problem
was that many of the executives from these investment banks ended up being put into powerful
positions in the government where they pushed for even more deregulation. In the late 90 s the
internet bubble burst after investment banks knowingly promoted internet companies they knew
would fail. A financial innovation known as derivatives became a $50 trillion business yet they
were completely unregulated. When there was an attempt to regulate this market, it was almost
immediately shut down and a law was put in place banning all regulation of derivatives. Under
these new rules it created a new securitization food chain. Investment banks were creating complex
derivatives called collateralized debt obligationand selling these debts to investors. Then these
CDO s were rated by rating agencies, with most of them

The Argument For God s Existence And Nature
Question 2
In part IX of Hume s Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion, Deamea, the orthodox Christian,
confronts Philo s skepticism towards the arguments for God s existence and nature that have thus
far be discussed. Deamea presents a version of the ontological argument that he believes should
provide undeniable proof of the truths found in religious dogma. However, Philo is not convinced
with this argument because of the nature of the argument. Philo describes Deamea s ontological
argument as an a priori argument. In Latin a priori is means from before but when this term is
used in philosophy it is meant to mean from before experience. These kinds of arguments are
arguments that anyone can come to see as being true from the comfort of ... Show more content on

These arguments argue for something through the use of empirical evidence. An example of a
posteriori knowledge would be the statement, Barack Obama is the current president of the United
States. This is an example of empirical information that cannot be proven through reason alone. The
different viewpoints between a priori and a posteriori arguments can be seen in works for Thomas
Aquinas and Anselm of Canterbury. Both Saints believe that Godis self evident. However, Aquinas
uses a priori arguments and Anselm uses an a priori argument. I believe that Aquinas does not reject
Anselm s argument because it is a priori. Aquinas issues with Anselm s argument lies in Anselm s
misuse of his definition of God and humanity s inability to understand this definition. In his
ontological argument, Anselm defines God as that than which nothing greater can be thought.
According to Aquinas, this is where the main issue lies in Anselm s argument. Aquinas believes
that everyone must have the same concept of God in order for Anselm s definition of God to work.
Not everyone will define God as that than which nothing greater can be thought. This definition is
the basis of Anselm s argument and if people cannot come to define God as Anselm did then the
argument fails. Aquinas second issue with Anselm s ontological argument comes from the fact that
even if everyone comes to accept God as that

The theory suggests that the mass media may influence a very large number of people directly and

The media s effects on people s behavior is extremely effective . Adolf Hitler used the media to

President Franklin D. Roosevelt s radio speeches, well known as fireside chats, inspired millions

  • 2. Life In The 21st Century The world is changing, and changing fast. Technology, education, health, eating habits, dress there is hardly anything in life that is not changing, some changes we like, while others create fear and anxiety. Several predictions were made that the world will end in 2012 based on the rollover of the Mayan calendar but all these forecasting were proved to be fictitious. On the contrary we are living in the 21st century, 2025 and the worldhas changed tremendously in the last 13 years. The world has been transformed by the digital revolution and advances in medicine and human knowledge. The present day civilization stands on two legs, one is spirituality, and the other is science. Today, I woke up and have a coffee. My eyes got baffled to the digital newspaper headlines and it was written that Colonization on Mars has begun . Then suddenly I remembered my old days when newspapers were printed on papers. Technology has changed every aspect of life. Now people are going to live on Mars and the problem of over population has been solved. Then I got ready and proceed towards my office. Earlier we have to catch an auto or bus to reach our destination and now the transportation has become so simple that we can travel from one place to another with ease. Being as an engineer in Metro Services I feel proud to work there because it has solved the transportation problem. While sitting in the metro I saw the streets which were so clean that not even a single paper was thrown away. At ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Using Deconstructive Criticism to Analyze an Advertisement... The average American is exposed to an estimated number of about two hundred fifty to five hundred advertisements in a single day. As unrealistic as the statistic seems, it is because most people are not often aware of the companies attempt to expose their products through an advertisement to the consumers unless it is one that is personally appealing to themselves. An advertisement is used to grab the attention of the audience by means of television, radio, internet, billboards, magazines, and newspapers. Through the use of media, the advertisers usually create the advertisement to persuade the audience to take an action after viewing the advertisement or they use the advertisement to manipulate the audience into believing their product is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The tee shirt on the man and the woman are red and pink. Red is a complementary color of green on a color model, meaning the effect of using these colors together create a vibrant visual in the viewer s eyes. If the and the woman were both wearing red it would look displeasing to the eye so they have the woman wear pink instead which still pleases the viewer s eye against the green background because it is a similar relative color to red. The Newport cigarettes are either blue and white with highlights of gold or green and white with highlights of gold so they use a lot of similar colors in their advertisement to represent their product. Not to mention on the color model, blue and orange are complementary colors. The body language in the main picture of the man and woman stands out because they use their genuine, bright smiles to depict pleasure while they enjoy feeding each other a slice of cake. Cake is a symbolism of fun and happy times which is why the advertisers use cake to portray their happiness and pleasure. The couple also looks very energetic and eager. This makes the audience appeal to their product because the audience will believe that they will also feel pleasure from using their product. The wording in the advertisement is simple and it sends out a message that is depicted throughout the entire advertisement. Pleasure is synonymous to energy, happiness, brightness, and enjoyment and the advertisement represents all of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Plastic Pollution And Its Effects On Our Society Our world has become infatuated with the idea of fast, easy, and comfortable consumption. We ve grown accustomed to accommodating a fast pace lifestyle but we have forgotten about the repercussions of our actions. So many products have become single use or disposable, from our individually wrapped food to our hygiene products. Since the discovery of plasticit has become the go to material of choice due to its cheap price of production. Unfortunately because of its high production rate and the fact that it s essentially non biodegradable it has started to consume our planet from landfills, to rivers, and our oceans. When talking about plastic pollution people usually think about plastic bags and bottles but another huge product of plastic waste is a toothbrush. Currently there s about 323,060,000 people in the United states; if you take a very rough estimate that there s at least 5 million people/ babies who don t have teeth, subtract that from the population, and then estimate that the average person goes through 3 tooth brushes a year, you end up with 955,800,000 toothbrushes being thrown away per year. That s 1 billion toothbrushes from America alone, disregarding the fact that your dentist recommends you change your toothbrush at least 4 times a year. Plastic is generally what the average toothbrush is made of. Little plastic beads are poured into a mold and then heated up till they reach a doughy consistency, rubber detailing is then added for looks and texture ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Plato s idea of civic justice displays a criteria for specialization that holds each individual responsible for producing their own rendition of excellence that leads to a just life, which produces a just city, and ultimately civic justice. Plato describes civic justice as ...doing one s own work provided that it comes to be in a certain way (433b pg.108). The idea for a just city was constructed in the book, Plato Republic, and in that blueprint, the ultimate goal was to have a just city, it should also be noted that before Plato there were numerous theories of Justice. The other theories were proposed by Cephalus, Polymarchus, Trasymachus and Glaucon all of which Plato did not agree with and all three had one common element. The element ... The other side of the coin is the idea of being unjust, Plato describes this as, meddling and exchange between these classes, there is the greatest harm...and the worst thing one could do to the city is cause injustice (434c pg109). The meddling and exchange between classes refers to the idea of not having specialization, consequently this type of behavior is expressed as harmful, because it leaves room for individuals to produce mediocre abilities. The idea that jobs were chosen according to one s own abilities and temperament gives an individual the tools to become the best they possibly can be. If the people were allowed to choose their own jobs, they might discover down the line that it was a mistake allowing room for these types of mistakes could cause the city to no longer be considered just, because not all of the parts would be working toward the common goal. There would be a segment of the population that would have to find other means for employment which would better suit them; this would be a very tedious and long process. For ... They turned to the Peloponnesians for support to leave the Athenian s. The Peloponnesians agreed but couldn t provide much help since they were across the ocean. The Mytileneans took actions into their own hands and started revolting. Word of the revolt got the Athenians and they were not happy. They went to Mytilene and took every rebel that could be found. The oligarchic leaders of Mytilene were taken by Athenian general, Paches. The Mytileneans asked that no one be killed until they were fairly represented in count in Athens. Diodotus brings into the speech that opposing views should not make the citizens blind to the right decision. He states, A good citizen should not go about terrifying those who speak against him, but should try to look better in a fair debate (iii:42). Diodotus is speaking primary to the assembly and telling them that they should not have to fear if they don t agree with the majority of the assembly, that they must stand for what the believe not what others believe because then good advisers are lost because of fear. Diodotus goes on to talk about how the punishment imposed on the Mytileneans would benefit them. Fazal Ihsan Pattathil Mrs. Ramsey English I 05 May 2017 Feminist Movement Pros/Cons In the 1960 s women in America were expected to marry in their early 20 s and start a family. Back then not many women worked, most stayed at home and took care of the children. Now, in the year 2017, women have equal rights to men and are now a very important part of the workforce. Although the Feminist movement is giving women equal treatment to men there are also feminists who believe that women should be indistinguishable to men, this form of radical feminism is harmful for it gives feminists a bad name. Men and women should be equal under law even though their obvious biological differences. But, in other parts of life, it must be known that men and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Radical Feminism has created an area of unsureness of what is permissible to say to a female. Is it okay to compliment a woman on her dress, or is that considered sexual harassment? This is why most choose words carefully when complimenting a woman. There are certain compliments are offensive to women without any discussion. These types of compliments often use phrases like, even though you are woman or despite being a woman these compliments are offensive because they suggest that being a woman is a setback and that women are less capable than men at accomplishing something. On Sunday, June 7, 2015 Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi caused an uproar on twitter when he complimented the Prime Minister of Bangladesh on her stance on terrorism by saying, I am happy that, she, despite being a woman, has declared zero tolerance for terrorism. Women all over the world who were rightfully outraged by Modi s comment that it s unusual for a woman to make a firm statement against terrorism. Supposed compliments, like Modi s despite being a woman comment, are more than just rude. They perpetuate damaging stereotypes about what it means to be a woman, and indirectly tell women that, whatever their accomplishments are, they will continue to be seen as female first, and as professionals second. • 9. My Education Experience It all started that first day of kindergarten, as my grandma took a picture of me in my blue skirt and Barbie lunch box that today would start the rest of my life. We waited for the bus to come pick my brother and me up. That summer we made the decision to attend public school. From that moment, I knew my life was going to change, now I was going to the same elementary schoolthat my dad had attended. I got on the bus with the confidence to start my educationthe best I could. My experiences that happened throughout K 12 schools, I say were pretty generic, nothing crazy happened. My education started in Indiana, where the environment and standards were a bit different from South Carolina. The thing that stood out the most is the use of yes ma am and no sir , this was expected to be said in school, while up North I could have said yes or no. I connected more with my teachers in Elementary school than I ever did with middle and high school. The first two years of elementary school, of what I could remember is what group did I fit in, who can I see myself being friends with. What I remember the most from elementary school were my teachers from the second and third grade. My second grade teacher was also my brother s teacher also my dad s first grade teacher. Mrs. Baylette she was an older woman, was allergic to milk. When doing multiplication tables, if you got them all right within a span of a month or, so she and the student teacher would take you out for dinner. With my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Lucretius Beliefs Epicurus supported that the images people had for gods were varying due to the different preconceptions that had been implanted to every person separately. Very often there were false convictions expressed by people even if their preconceptions reflected their own natural goals. Lucretius protested against voices who presented gods as having evil intents and as prone to partiality and fury: Unhappy human race, to attribute such behavior, and bitter wrath too, to the gods! What lamentations did they lay up for themselves in those days, what wounds for us, what tears for our descendants ? Moreover, Lucretius stated: Unless you expel these ideas from your mind and drive far away beliefs unworthy of the gods and alien to their tranquillity,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even Epicurus followers were confused and perplexed by Epicurus theology such as Lucretius and Cicero s Vellius who combined information and syllogisms that satisfied realists as well as idealists. Both interpretative parties had their own reasons to attach Epicurus both to the realistic and the idealistic context and both of them had to defend their theories against arguments that worth consideration. I personally believe that Epicurus was more an idealist than a realist. He obviously stated that there are gods a statement that could easily describe him as a realist but the fact that he encouraged people to construct the conception of god and that their true nature, lifestyle and way of thinking were completely unknown to people compel me to believe that Epicurus was idealist and gods were merely thought constructs articulating people s unrealistic view of the life they desired. Philodemus mentioned that Epicurus involved himself in all the traditional festival and sacrifices . However, this attestation does not prove that Epicurus was surely devoutly religious and believed that gods were existing living beings; he could have acted in that way to give a boost to his social status or even to protect himself from the dangerous accusations of ... • 11. Bach, Johann Sebastian Bach And Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Jonathan Hugendubler Fugue Bach Shostakovich 10/10/2017 Comparative Fugal Analysis The fugue is often regarded as a genre defined by strict procedural guidelines. It is notable that three historically important composers, Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 1750), Georg Friedrich Handel (1685 1759), and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart(1756 1791), all employed a closely related fugue subject in three different works. An analysis of each of these works individually, and a comparison of these works collectively reveal numerous latent and salient features, and a reflection of the composers style within these works. Analyses also provide an outlook into the fluidity in certain aspects and rigidity in others of the form itself, reflected historically. The three composers analyzed fall closely together in history. J.S. Bach and G.F. Handel were contemporaries, whereas Mozart was born six years after Bach s death and three years before Handel s death. Analytically, the angularity of these similar fugue subjects presupposes a treatment regardless of the composer. Because of the shared intervallic content among the subjects of these fugues, despite being written by several different composers, a surprising number of similarities arise. Therefore, it is reasonable to assert that compositional choices made in the construction of the fugue subjects limit the number of results possible. This analysis will use the A minor fugue from of J.S. Bach s The Well Tempered Clavier, Book 2 G.F. Handel s And ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the effort of the competition, the White Star Line came up with an idea of creating a massive, luxurious ship that would later be given the name The Royal Mail Steamer Titanic, or Titanic for short and as it is well known today. The main goal of this ship was to establish a primary ship for the traveling to and from the United States in an extravagant style for the most well paying passengers among their cruise line. This was made known to the public through the pride the Titanic had earned it s fleet, for it was the largest moving man made object ever recorded before the year 1912 ( Titanic s Safety Features ). She, the Titanic, was measured to be eight hundred and eighty two feet and nine inches just in length, ninety two feet and six inches in width (or beam) of the ship, and one hundred and seventy five feet tall with nine decks on the ship (Source 9). This massive ship was created in just two years, starting in 1909 and finishing in 1911, making it possible for her to make her maiden and final voyage in 1912, give or take a year for test runs and sea trials in Ireland. • 16. William Shakespeare s Henry V, King Henry And The French... What constitutes honor in society? In Henry V, King Henry and the French invoke its constitution to incite men into war. Although the reasons that the English and French countrymen fight differ, the thought of honorably serving their countries stands alone as enough impetus to thrust both onto the battlefield. But how can honor command such incentive? The answer stems from individualistic pride. The characters in Henry V see how, as a collective, society has objectively agreed that service to one s country merits honor, but each character, as an individual, chooses to strive towards that honor because of his or her own pride. This notion of individualistic pride both consciously and subconsciously drives daily action. And in Henry V, the insidious intent of pride eclipses the known vicious nature of war. The motivation for King Henry to wage war on France, the subsequent response of France s leadership, and the action of the English countrymen emanates from the notion of honor, but how each individual responds to the desire to fulfill his pride ultimately shapes the field of Agincourt (4.7.86). Henry V illustrates how honor and pride craft the nature of war. King Henry s yearning for honor and the challenges to his pride that he receives from his wild younger days instigates him to pursue war with France. He understands the magnitude of war, even probing the archbishop of Canterbury s argument to challenge the Salic law: For God doth know how many now in health / Shall ... As Indonesia entails 17000 islands, there are many different styles of gamelan, and no gamelan orchestra is considered to be the same as another (See Y S, 2000). Varieties of gamelanare distinguished through tunings, style, cultural context and the collection of instruments used. Rhetorical Analysis Of Death By Treacle KNH 21T Rhetorical Analysis Essay, Death by Treacle Pamela Haag s article, Death by Treacle, offers a unique take on false sentimentality and pseudo intimacy promoted by today s society. She claims that makeshift iconography has led to becoming undoubtedly less caring because of the constant push for sentimentality. Haag s examples point to the increased fundraising initiatives that are prevalent in American culture as being the culprit that leads to a lifestyle of intimacy lite. She uses rhetorical devices such as visuals, narration, research and expert opinions to validate this claim. The opening of Haag s article begins with an illustration of an emoticon with exclamation points as the eyes, nose, and mouth. This symbol represents her mistrust of the exclamation point. She visualizes the sad face emoticon that most people are familiar with today, but Haag suggests that the excessive overuse of the exclamation point allows for users to be falsely or unnecessarily emotional. She exclaims, The exclamation point is used with unprecedented, hyperventilating frequency in correspondence, deployed to soften underlying hostilities or to gin up excitement where no true reason for it suggests itself. This reasoning leads the entire article s mood, where the readers are encouraged to think critically about why and how they use exclamation points and emoticons. Although there were many more traits and values that helped Skilling to be an effective leader, it is these three that I believe contributed the most to his effectiveness as the CEO and leader of Enron. One of the single most important traits to possess in order to be an effective leader is charisma. Jeff Skilling exuding charisma and was able to convince the media, shareholders, employees, and everyone in between that he was acting in their interest and running a company with integrity and honesty. Skilling s charisma can be seen in many instances during his career at Enron, but one of his more striking instances of charismatic leadershipwas how he was able to influence all of the workers at Portland General Electric to convert their 401k s into company stock (Gibney, 2005). Though this may sound like a relatively commonplace act, it took massive amounts of charisma to gain the trust and confidence of an entire company s employees. Another trait that Jeff Skilling possessed in order to be an effective leader was intelligence. Skilling was a highly intelligent man and used that intelligence to build Enron into the seventh largest corporation in the United States until its eventual downfall. The Battle Of Trenton And The Battle Of Saratoga The battle of Trenton and the battle of Saratoga brought a crucial victory to the Continental Army, but the battle of Trenton improved morale in the patriots more so than the battle of Saratoga did. The battle of Trenton proved to be significant by ultimately turning the tide of the conflict in their favor, improving morale and hope for the war. For instance, The battle of Trenton on Christmas Eve in 1776 proved the colonist were dedicated and a capable force. The colonists were wary about fighting the very powerful Hessian, therefore on Christmas Eve, they planned a sneak attack to defeat them. The patriots marched and fought in icy and poor conditions before dawn, hoping to defeat the powerful Hessians. After the surprise attack the Colonists had totaled 2 dead and 5 wounded. The Hessians had 22 dead and 90 wounded and 918 captured. This victory would change the image of the colonist s army and bring about great change. After the battle of Trenton, they were now viewed as a definite threat to the British. On the other hand, the battle of Saratoga gave the colonist hope for the upcoming battles. On October 17th,1777 the colonist surrounded General Burgoyne and his army continue to hold strong, the army fought until the British surrendered to the colonist. This was significant for the colonist because the British surrendered to the colonist. This showed the British that the colonist held up a good fight and that this war was going to be long and hard. There were many constitutional developments in this time period, which include the Emancipation Proclamation, the Civil War, and newly added Amendments. There were also many social developments included the Ku Klux Klan and voting of black people. Some of these developments were a revolution, which is a forcible overthrow of the government or social order in favor of a new system, and some were not. The constitutional developments started when the South tried to secede from the Union. The election of the anti slavery Republican, Abraham Lincoln, as president in 1860 caused seven southern states to secede from the Union to form the Confederate States of America. Four more states tried seceding by using the 10th amendment, which declared the powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states. The secession of Southern states caused a Civil War, which was, by itself, not a revolution. The Civil War is considered America s bloodiest clash , which started in 1861 and ended in 1865. The Union was pitted against the Confederate States and resulted in the death of more than 620,000, with millions more injured. In the adolescent stage (also coined the identity vs. role confusion stage by theorist Erik Erikson) bodies are changing rapidly, emotions are unfamiliar and unexplainable, and refraining from succumbing to peer pressure is more challenging than ever. Erikson theorizes that in such a period, adolescents have certain tasks, one of which is identifying who they are. An individual successfully completes the task by staying true to his or her self, whereas when a person fails that stage, it leads to role confusion; consequently creating a weak sense of self. (Block 2011). The stage also entails a variety of personal challenges and limitations faced as well as a series of needs to be met, including: attention, guidance, independence, stability, and acceptance, among other needs. Meeting an adolescent s needs is fundamental to their healthy development and personal growth. Nevertheless, adolescence remains as puzzling of a period in time for both the teens experiencing it, as well as for the individuals surrounding them, watching them as they navigate through the trials that adolescence brings them. • 37. The Consumption Of Cow Milk, It Has Become Highly Consumed... Introduction Since the discovery of the nutritional benefits associated with the consumption of cow s milk, it has become highly consumed within the western diet and worldwide (Kanekanian 2014). However, health concerns arose in the late nineteenth and early twentieth Centuries due to an increase in infant mortality and milk borne illnesses relating to the consumption of raw cow s milk (Knechtges 2012). This became an increasing public health concern and highlighted the growing need to introduce and enforce laws and legalisations relating to the processing and sale of cow s milk. In 1864 Louis Pasteur discovered pasteurisation was an effective processing method for destroying pathogenic microorganisms responsible for foodborne illness present in beverages; prolonging its life and quality (Brown 2015). Current laws and legislations now state milk must undergo this process before being sold for retail sale and intended for human consumption. Yet, there is still a growing demand for the sale of raw cow s milk due to beliefs in greater nutritional benefits if consumed. This creates a growing public health concern to ensure safe laws and legislations are in place and practice. This paper investigates the introduction of a new milk processing technique allowing for the sale of raw milk which undergoes a high water pressure processing (HPP) technique and whether it is an effective alternate processing method. Moreover, it identifies the human health risks associated with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ultra Running Research Paper Ultra running is an extreme sport enjoyed by few that involves pushing the human body to its limits by running distances further than a standard twenty six point two mile marathon. The modern marathon race and distance came from Greek history when a soldier named Phidippides ran 26.2 miles from the town of Marathonto the capital of Greece, Athens to deliver a message. Although running extreme distances was sometimes a necessity in ancient times, modern ultra runners simply have a love for it. Some popular ultra marathon races include: the Leadville Trail 100, the Badwater 135, the Le Grand Raid, and the Jungle Ultra. The men and women who enjoy these races are quite different from the average person or even the occasional runner. Ultra runners put themselves through rigorous training and pay very close attention to their diet and nutritional intake. Another trait that sets ultra runners apart from the average person is their mindset and great mental strength. This battle was the most intricately planned operation on the Western front by the Allied troops during World War One. It was led by Canadian General, Sir Arthur Currie, and was the first time all four Canadian Corps fought together in the war. It was also the first time Canadian troops, led by a Canadian, shared a total Canadian victory. This battle was a defining event for Canada, as it was a major step in achieving full independence from the British. It was important for the growth of Canadian nationalism and pride. Alberta s Famous Five were a group of accomplished Canadian women involved in the Persons Case of 1927. At the time, The Constitution stated what requirements had to be met for a person to be delegated into the Canadian Senate, and other government jobs. For years, it had been a given that by a person they meant a man. The five women challenged Parliament and asked them whether or not women were seen as persons. When the case went to the Supreme Court of Canada in 1928, it was ruled that the Constitution meant persons as in men. However, when the British Privy Council heard of this decision, they vetoed it, and so ruled that women were indeed persons and eligible to be appointed to the Senate. Between 1815 and 1914, many territories of the world, such as Canada, India Australia or many parts of Africa, were added to the British Empire, which brought many negative repercussions for the rest of the globe (for instance, the empire created class and wealth divisions in England). • 46. Voltaire s Candide And Dostoyevsky s Notes From Underground The vital notion of moderation was first given precise archetypal denotation by Aristotle. Aristotle described moderation as the equilibrium between two extremes; for example, the person who never takes any risks is frightened, while the person who consistently takes risks is reckless (Parry). Therefore the person who is a balance of the two, not too cowardly but not too irresponsible, has attained the impeccable balance of moderation. While there have been many brilliant works created to provide emphasis to the importance of moderation, two philosophers in particular, Voltaireand Dostoyevsky, have conceivably accomplished the most exemplary job of delivering evidence in Voltaire s Candideand Dostoyevsky s Notes From Underground. Each use the two concepts of reasoning and currency in different ways to express the importance of moderation. In contemporary society, daring to ask a pertinent question on a social platform is feasibly one of the most daunting tasks one can make. Riddled with a maelstrom of potentially traumatizing consequences, giving voice to a serious enquiry over a serious subject is even more of an arduous enterprise. Still, regardless of the details of the responses themselves, the act of asking and answering a serious question shows something even more significant: the ability to think. In both Candide and Notes from Underground, thought and the impact of reason are the most important concepts discussed, though Voltaire and Dostoyevsky use different ... The first part of the documentary focuses on what led to the financial meltdown. In the 1980 s the finance industry exploded after investment banks went public, leading these firms to have an excess of stockholder s money. Then the president at the time, Ronald Reagan, began a 30 year period of financial deregulation. Reagan deregulated savings and loan companies which allowed them to make risky investments with depositor s money, which led to taxpayers paying $124 billion dollars when they inevitably failed. Executives in these companies were also stealing money from their depositors. Another problem was that many of the executives from these investment banks ended up being put into powerful positions in the government where they pushed for even more deregulation. In the late 90 s the internet bubble burst after investment banks knowingly promoted internet companies they knew would fail. A financial innovation known as derivatives became a $50 trillion business yet they were completely unregulated. When there was an attempt to regulate this market, it was almost immediately shut down and a law was put in place banning all regulation of derivatives. Under these new rules it created a new securitization food chain. Investment banks were creating complex derivatives called collateralized debt obligationand selling these debts to investors. However, Aquinas uses a priori arguments and Anselm uses an a priori argument. I believe that Aquinas does not reject Anselm s argument because it is a priori. Aquinas issues with Anselm s argument lies in Anselm s misuse of his definition of God and humanity s inability to understand this definition. In his ontological argument, Anselm defines God as that than which nothing greater can be thought. According to Aquinas, this is where the main issue lies in Anselm s argument. Aquinas believes that everyone must have the same concept of God in order for Anselm s definition of God to work. Not everyone will define God as that than which nothing greater can be thought.
