“SCORING RUBRICS & RATING SCALES”
A Rubric is a scoring tool that lists the criteria or
‘what counts’ for a piece of work.
A Rubrics is an evaluation tool that describes quality of work on
a gamut (range) from excellent to poor.
Specific characteristics of performance are detailed for all quality
levels.
A Rubrics measure student work against real-life criteria and is
referred to as from of authentic assessment.
Rubric is a guide listing specific criteria for grading or scoring
academic papers, projects, or test.
SCORING RUBRICS
Focus on measuring a stated objective
(PERFORMANCE,BEHAVIOR, OR QUALITY).
Use a range to rate performance.
Contain specific performance characteristic arranged in levels
indicating the degree to which standard has been met.
FEATURES OF SCORING RUBRIC
o Identify a leaning goals
o Choose outcomes that may be measured with a rubric
o Developer adopt (and adapt) an existing rubric
o Share with students
o Assess Or Grade
o Analyze and report results
STEPS TO DESIGN RUBRIC
ANALYTIC:
This type of rubric evaluate the end product or performance.
HOLISTIC:
This type of rubric focus on student demonstrating achievement
and does not provide specific feedback.
TYPES OF RUBRICS
DISADVANTAGES
o Take more time to create
and use than a holistic
rubric.
o Does not provide specific
feedback for improvement.
o Criteria cannot be weighted.

areas of strength and
weakness.
o Can be applied consistency
by trained raters increase
reliability.
o Saves time by minimizing
the number of decisions for
rate makers.
Rating scales can help to evaluate the quality of the behavior of
one student or many students.
It also measure the degree in which a student exhibits a specified
behavior.
Several rating forms are commonly used to assess students
behavior problems.
RATING SCALE
MANY OF THESE INCLUDE FORMS FOR TEACHERS AND
PARENTS.
RATING SCALES
Teacher make observations of students performance and
compare them with each other.
Teacher check students Test, Exam papers and then judge student
and give marks to them.
Students according to their level or performance in classroom.
The rating scale is common Tool to assess students and it is easily
used in large group.

  • 3. A Rubric is a scoring tool that lists the criteria or ‘what counts’ for a piece of work. A Rubrics is an evaluation tool that describes quality of work on a gamut (range) from excellent to poor. Specific characteristics of performance are detailed for all quality levels. A Rubrics measure student work against real-life criteria and is referred to as from of authentic assessment. Rubric is a guide listing specific criteria for grading or scoring academic papers, projects, or test. SCORING RUBRICS
