The Case study is based on:
the emotional dilemma an employee
goes through while switching
organisations
the attitudinal changes in an individual
that leads to the dynamic change in
behavior towards the organizational
objective.

2. CHARACTER SKETCH OF DEEPAK
 A 25yr old management graduate.
 5 years work experience in MNC.
Dynamic young individual
Optimistic
Broadminded
Self Motivated
 Slightly confused attitude
3. CASE ANALYSIS
It is the diary entry of an young individual who is
confused over switching professions.
He narrates an unresolved dilemma that he is having
from the past 6 months.
He counters the ethos of a society and decides to quit
his job in an MNC and start his doctoral studies at US.
After 6 months of joining doctoral studies, he realized
the importance of money aspect
He is a sharp observer as he noticed how decisive
people are in taking the rear exit to save 3 minutes of
precious time.
He feels to be trapped in a ‘Rat Race’ yet again.

Factors that Affected Deepak Dey’s Career Choice:
The urge for Self-Development
The quest for a socially relevant role.
The desire to learn more than what he could learn from the
scope of his executive job.
Unresolved dilemmas in Deepak’s mind:
If the new role was going to provide the kind of satisfaction &
success I am looking for.
If the environment was going to be that stimulating in the
academic world.
If he was generalising too much on the basis of his experience
with some of his professors.

the attitudes and behaviour of Mr. Dey? Compare Mr. Dey’s earlier
attitudes with that of his attitudes and behaviour six months later.

 Behaviour= Questions his move
 New Attitude= felt monetary concerns (Realistic)
Comment on Mr. Dey’s preoccupation with matters such as social relevance of one’s career, the mission
of one’s life, and the need for self development. Do such concerns run counter to the ethos of a society ,
whichmaybelieve that money-makingopportunities ought to be grabbed withalacrity?
Ethos of Society= Normal belief of Society
= Success means earning more
money or higher position.
Deepak’s decision was totally against the normal
belief of society.
Subjective norms like objections of his friends even
had no impact on his decision making.
He chose the socially relevant role over a 9-5
executive job
He Preferred academic progress and self
development more than money aspects.
He wanted to work in close relation to the society
in which he was living and add a value to it.
6. PROBLEM-3
Employee’s job satisfaction is of prime
importance in terms of organizational
success.
Individual’s behaviour should be guided by
consistency in attitude.
Being confident is always appreciated but
being overconfident leads to uncertainties.
Career research is a must before switching
professions.
Pros and Cons analysis should be done
after listening to all the suggestions from
others and then a final decision should be
taken.

CASE ANALYSIS It is the diary entry of an young individual who is confused over switching professions. He narrates an unresolved dilemma that he is having from the past 6 months. He counters the ethos of a society and decides to quit his job in an MNC and start his doctoral studies at US. After 6 months of joining doctoral studies, he realized the importance of money aspect He is a sharp observer as he noticed how decisive people are in taking the rear exit to save 3 minutes of precious time. He feels to be trapped in a ‘Rat Race’ yet again. Factors that Affected Deepak Dey’s Career Choice: The urge for Self-Development The quest for a socially relevant role. The desire to learn more than what he could learn from the scope of his executive job. Unresolved dilemmas in Deepak’s mind: If the new role was going to provide the kind of satisfaction & success I am looking for. If the environment was going to be that stimulating in the academic world. If he was generalising too much on the basis of his experience with some of his professors. 4.   • 8. Comment on Mr. Dey’s preoccupation with matters such as social relevance of one’s career, the mission of one’s life, and the need for self development. Do such concerns run counter to the ethos of a society , whichmaybelieve that money-makingopportunities ought to be grabbed withalacrity? Ethos of Society= Normal belief of Society = Success means earning more money or higher position. Deepak’s decision was totally against the normal belief of society. Subjective norms like objections of his friends even had no impact on his decision making. He chose the socially relevant role over a 9-5 executive job He Preferred academic progress and self development more than money aspects. He wanted to work in close relation to the society in which he was living and add a value to it. 6.   • 9. Employee’s job satisfaction is of prime importance in terms of organizational success. Individual’s behaviour should be guided by consistency in attitude. Being confident is always appreciated but being overconfident leads to uncertainties. Career research is a must before switching professions. Pros and Cons analysis should be done after listening to all the suggestions from others and then a final decision should be taken. 7.
