Hari has been working as the HR manager of Nepal Insurance

excellent expertise and knowledge. He enjoys his routine job but has
an inner urge to start his own training and consulting firm. He has
certain issues with this idea and those are :

He plans to acquire his own house too.
He has no enough capital to start a consultancy by himself.
He is a sensitive and emotionally attached with his family.
His personality is a small, ‘shy’ type ‘gentleman’ which affects his
decision making and communication too.

Additional problems mentioned in the case :
He avoids risks and is not ready to take any, now.

with an aim of working in his place and Hari is unaware of
that.

and are dead against him leaving a stable job.
His wife Suman, wants him to go for the next job offered by
a rival company which pays him more and gives higher

consulting firm by his self growth needs. He wants self
recognition and wants to grow his talents for himself.
He wants achievement within himself, maximum self-

e) Problems of Decision Making
What is Decision Making?
It is the thought process of selecting a logical choice from the
available options.
Decision making is a tough process in itself. Choosing from among
the alternatives can turn out to be challenging.
Factors affecting decision making are :
 Perception
 Priority
 Acceptability
 Demands
 Resources
 Judgement
31
The problems with Hari in decision making process can be :
1. Hari, is not far sighted. He doesn’t analyze the possibilities that
may arise but goes through the present only.
2. He is not a risk bearer. Decision making is all about bearing risk
and is not ready to take risk.
3. He is not clear about his ambition or goal. He also lacks
adequate advices.
4. The list of his priorities are long.
5. He is a shy person who has many friends; but lacks the drive to
influence people.
6. He is a sensitive and emotional character in this case who gets
more emotional when it is about his family and their future.
7. He has low inter-personal communication skills.
8. His commitment towards family is more important to him than
achieving goal of becoming an independent consultant.

f) CommunicationSkills
What do you mean by Communication ?
The imparting or exchanging of information by speaking,
writing, or using some other medium.
Communication involves more than just linear information
flows; it is a dynamic, interpersonal process that involves
behavioral exchanges.
Communication skills is the ability to convey or share ideas
and feelings effectively.
Communication of information leads to appropriate
decision-making in organizations. The quality of decision
depends upon the process of transmitting and
understanding information.
36
Hari, has a good communication skills in mass as he is
trainer and a counselor for new employees. He has
expertise and knowledge on training others.
But, to talk about his inter-personal skills of
communication, it seems to be low as he is a shy
person, has many friends still less. He has no drive to
influence people for what he wants them to do. He also
doesn’t want to consult his wife Suman. He is also
unable to communicate with his parents well and
convince them to let him do what he wants.

2.CaseStudyAnswers
Need to motivate oneself ?
Personal motivation is key to maintaining almost all aspects of
life. If we're not motivated, we're more likely to squander our time
and neglect our personal and professional goals.
Motivation is a combination of a whole bunch of things, usually
including some type of fear or intense desire. After all, the
motivation battle is nothing but your head telling you "I think I
can," "I think I still can," and "I'm doing it!"
To be self motivated, he need to follow three things :
 developing confidence
 staying focused
 and, maintaining direction.
51
Need to improve
communication
skills ?
Be a good
listener
Never talk
over people
Don’t finish other
people’s sentenceParaphrase
Maintain eye
contact
Ask
questions
52
Need to be
decisive ?
Train your brain
Picture yourself
as a decisive
person
Stop worrying
about “bad
decisions”
Be brave to face
your mistakes
Realize that
indecisiveness is
also a decision
53
Needto manage
Emotions ?
Select the
situation
Modify the
situation
Shift attentional
focus
Change thoughts
Change
response
54
Need to manage resistance ?
• Analyze the situation and what it will be like after
the change
• Try to be creative
• Trust yourself with the change
• Identify the root causes of resistance
• Address resistance formally
55
Need to
manage
Conflict ?
Agree to
Disagree
Identify the
issue
Identify the
key players
Articulate
your concerns
Work together
to resolve
Maintain
confidentiality
Ask a third
party for help
56
To conclude :
We think Hari should continue with his job at this time. Leaving
the job and joining another may be risky and will upset his
parents. He needs to believe in himself that he will make the
situation to work out.
He can also join the next job, earn more, learn more and open his
own consultancy after sometime and fulfill his dream. Joining a
new job will give him more opportunities and he will get to learn
more.
57
3.Conclusion
We have solved and discussed the case. All the factors we
discussed in the case are interrelated with each other and
can be used to solve overall business issues in the
organization. We have tried to understand the problem
included in the case and suggested solutions.
So we can say that this assignment will be helpful for in
further studies and gain knowledge of organizational
behavior.
