We gladly present you a case study on personality, motivation,
communication, leadership, family influence, decision making, conflict
and resistance to change. We prepared the case solutions on the basis of
solving the behavioral issues Hari, the main character in the case is facing.
We have solved two questions based on the case study “Hari’s Plight”.
Actually many different issues are discussed in the case study. The case
study covers a discussion on all the important topics in the study of
organizational level. We have tried our best to answer the questions
properly. We have also suggested some solutions for Hari’s dilemma.
Although the main propose of preparing the case study is to solve the case
answers properly. We would like to express our gratitude to you for your

(a) Background of the Study
We assign the case study to know the major issues faced by
Hari related with his personality, leadership traits,
motivation, family influence, problems with decision
making, communication skills, level of conflict and
resistance to change. And also to suggest some ideas Hari
should undertake. We hope this case also helps us to solve
problems in the inside organization’s area and results
about a positive impact in our further career.

7. Hari has been working as the HR manager of Nepal Insurance
Company (NIC) of Kathmandu for the past five years. He has
excellent expertise and knowledge. He enjoys his routine job but has
an inner urge to start his own training and consulting firm. He has
certain issues with this idea and those are :
He is a family man. Wife, parents and two children.
He plans to acquire his own house too.
He has no enough capital to start a consultancy by himself.
He is a sensitive and emotionally attached with his family.
His personality is a small, ‘shy’ type ‘gentleman’ which affects his
decision making and communication too.
He lacks drive to influence people and has no vision of the future.

8. Additional problems mentioned in the case :
He avoids risks and is not ready to take any, now.
One of his friend Gopal is encouraging him to leave the job
with an aim of working in his place and Hari is unaware of
that.
He has his parents who want him to continue with the job
and are dead against him leaving a stable job.
His wife Suman, wants him to go for the next job offered by
a rival company which pays him more and gives higher
position along with prospects of study in abroad after three
years.
He is in dilemma as he doesn’t want to lose the clients

It is very important to set an objective for preparing our
report. The objective of our study are described below :

What is Personality ?
The combination of characteristics or qualities that form an
individual's distinctive character.
What is Hari’s Personality ?
Hari seems to be an introvert because he is mentioned as a shy
and quite individual. He seems to be unsocial, yet they desire
to be liked and accepted by others.
He has moderate degree of conscientiousness as he is self-
disciplined, careful and dependable.
He has low emotional stability in the sense that he is
indecisive, seems to be depressed and subject to mood swings.
He is not farsighted and has no ability of taking risks.
Avoiding challenges also defines Hari.

14. He is sensitive and agreeable but not far-sighted.
he has low openness to experience as he is less open to
ideal and more fixed in his own ways. Also he prefers
routine and schedule jobs rather than challenges and
opportunities.
Hari’s Personality can be defined as Type B Personality as

He typically work steadily, and may enjoy achievement,
although he has a greater tendency to disregard physical
or mental stress when he do not achieve. When faced with
competition, he may focus less on winning or losing than
his Type A counterparts, and more on enjoying the game

What is leadership ?
It is the ability to influence a group toward the achievement
of goals.
The action of leading a group of people or an organization,
or the ability to do this.

training and consulting firm. But still lacks drive to
influence people.
He has high leadership motivation as he is a HR manager
and trains other employees too.
He is honest and have moral principles i.e integrity.
Hari has not enough belief on himself and his expertise as
well as his decision making is not a strong point.
He has excellent knowledge and skills about his job.
His ability to collect and understand enormous
information i.e intelligence level is high.

It is the willingness to do something to achieve
organizational goals and, at the same time, to satisfy

Family is a group of people living together with a marriage or
blood relation.
Every working person is influenced by his family at his
workplace. His emotions and attachments are always with
him during working hours.
Hari has his own need of actualization on the one side, the
desires of his parents on the other side and needs of his
wife and children on the other.
His parents want him to continue on the same job while his
wife suggests her to shift to new job paying him more and
giving him high level. But, on the other side he himself

Personal motivation is key to maintaining almost all aspects of
life. If we're not motivated, we're more likely to squander our time
and neglect our personal and professional goals.
Motivation is a combination of a whole bunch of things, usually
including some type of fear or intense desire. After all, the
motivation battle is nothing but your head telling you "I think I
can," "I think I still can," and "I'm doing it!"

We think Hari should continue with his job at this time. Leaving
