Question 3: What kind of media institution might distribute your
media product and why?
I think that Vertigo would be a suitable
company to distribute my film. This is because
they have already produced and distributed
football films: Vertigo’s first film was The
Football Factory. They have since produced The
Firm as well. This means that Vertigo has
knowledgeof the audience of football films and
they know how to distribute football films.
There may already be an established fan-base
for football films formVertigo.
Also my film is aimed at an audience that is
aged roughly 12-18. This is generally younger
than the target audience of most films
distributed by Vertigo. This means that they may want to distribute my film in
order to attract a new audience compared to their normal target audience.
My film has a very popular genre as a sports film. There is a large fan basefor
sports films already and this may mean that Vertigo would be more willing to
distribute my film as there are a lot of potential viewers for the film. This could
result in a lot of profitbeing made for Vertigo.
Sports films such as mine can be marketed effectively because it is easy to
show something like a trailer to a large audience that are interested in the
genre. For example, my film could be advertised on television during football
matches as there would be a lot of football fans watching which may lead to a
large audience for the film. This would be usefulfor Vertigo as they could
market the film easily making it moreattractive for them as a distributing
company.
I think that Vertigo would distribute my film because they have a record of
working with inexperienced and less-known directors.

Large conglomerates such as Warner Brothers may not wantto distribute my
film as it doesn’tcontain any well-known actors. Conglomerates often use the
actors in the film to attract an interest for their movies. However, my film
doesn’thave any actors that are going to create an interest in the film.
Warner Brothers have previously distributed sports films including recent
success “Creed” and the highest ever grossing sports film“TheBlind Side”.
Warner Brothers has had lots of success distributing sports films so they may
feel that they could effectively distribute my film. However, Warner Brothers
have never distributed a football film so they may feel that it may be a risk for
them to distribute as they have no experience in this market.
