A big masthead that is clear and
will draw the reader in especially if
they know the brand and have
read it before, I think that the
bright white draws the attention of
the reader by standing out against
the pink.
The bright bubble-gum pink really stands
out against the white and amongst the
other colours, it also involves many
stereotypes of what is girls and boys
colours by including both pink and blue. I
think that the bright pink is a warming and
fun colour which people might associate
with a happy euphoric feeling.
The placement of this new york is good as I
think that the colour and font is the same
therefore it ties in with the masthead and
bright white. This gives the reader the
knowledge and information about where it
has come from without pushing in in their
faces.
The colour and font is also the
same which ties in with the overall
theme and suits the overall look. If
you look at the placement of each
of the words they are perfectly
aliened which creates a very
aesthically pleasing aspect of the
cover.
Here the model is wearing a du-rag
which simblisies maybe where he is from
and more about his culture, it also ties in
with a colour theme of the blue from
that and the blue in his chains and
jewelry, with his braids hanging down its
almost like he's wanting to look like
every little thing is in perfect place whilst
also like that is a normal and natural
position.
The blue in his chain ties in with his
du-rag as well as his blazer, I think
that the blue/green pops well with
the pink background and makes it
stand out more.
I think that by the model wearing big
and bulky chains and jewelry it goes
against a normal stereotype of
wearing a suit as its almost like he has
put his own spin on it , this could also
be showing abit about his background
and about how he likes to show his
wealthiness.
In this the model is wearing a suit
which is a bold statement
compared to the other aspects of
this photo because it isn't a
traditional way of wearing a suit
however it gives a dressed up feel
without being too intense and not
being like his style.
The placement of the tattoos combined
with the models suit really captures a
different aspect of fashion where two
genres have been merged together by
the way the model is wearing it
The clear bold white writing puts an
emphasize on the models stage
name, I think that this works well as
if fans of the celebrity notice his
name they are more likely to go
pick the magazine up compared to
if it just had a picture of him and
didn’t advertise his name.
The smaller duller white is still readable however is not as
eye catching as the more important bits of information.
5. Existing Product
Minimalistic background,
blurred to make the person
the main focal point.
Outside/ street as if
the model has just
stopped casually to
get a picture.
Blurred cars in the
background that go with
the simplistic approach
Bold and simple writing/font right
across the front to draw the
viewers attention to who the
model is.
Smaller same font with a
capturing underline that
draws the reader in whilst is a
slogan.
Well known celebrity to attract people
that know him as they are more likely to
reach for the product if they are
recognising someone
Big masthead with the behind the
model effect as if he is actually
stood in front of a sign however you
can still see what it says
The font of the header is almost
like a silloete of it to keep the
whole theme basic and minimalist,
with the background through the
gaps to keep the main focus on the
model.
Small info about the date
so that the reader knows
what issue and when it
came out, also very simple
and basic.
Very basic yet trendy clothing
that draws more attention to
the model whilst also making
sure it keeps the theme of
clean and new
In this a.s.a.p. rocky is
wearing a full tracksuit that
is all the same material and
colour therefore it all
blends into one and allows
the main focal point to go
to the actual model.
Bright white colour with a
similar font that draws the
readers attention whilst
also being on the side, I
think that the big bold
name attracts people as
well as fans of the artist
himself.
All the different words are in a
darker white that almost fades
into the background whilst also
giving the information.
Bright bold white writing that is
repetitive draws the attention
of the viewer whilst still
staying on the sideline.
Bright and clean shoes that keep
with the ongoing theme of
white/black and grey, they go
with the theme and look good
whilst also not drawing too much
attention.
The writing is darker which
indicates that is a less of
importance for the reader to read.
7. Existing Product
The model seems to not be showing any
hair this could portray an aspect of a non
gender magazine as she is going against
the normality of an average women's
magazine
The bright pink contrasts against the
blue background this could also be
related to the non gender aspect.
In the whole magazine there are
clear themes of neon colours with
white bright writing and I think that
this works as it makes the writing
stand out and easier to read
The background colour is a
washed out baby blue that
involves colour however doesn't
take any focus away from the
model and keeps it in the same
colour scheme
The model has very minimalist makeup
apart from the glitter underneath her
eyes and the bold eyebrows and I think
they have done this to make sure that
the bright colours stand out and aren’t
taken away with the use of bright
makeup, on the under eye area.
All over the photo there are lighter
and darker spots like a shadow that
gives the situation of model a
different aspect, using different
positions of lighting to achieve this.
The model is wearing very bright and
bold colours and patterns that wouldn't
necessarily match however on the over
view of this photo it doesn’t clash
The font is a very alien/space type which
relates to the theme of the photo
They have used a very classic bright white
font with a shadow of a bright pink which
is used throughout the whole theme of the
photo, this use of a good colour theme
keeps everything binded and well merged
together.
Throughout this whole magazine
cover there are visible different
shades of white which clarify the
importance of the information to
the reader for example this piece
of information is a duller less
visible white which doesn’t grab
the readers attention at first.
The creators have used many
different angles of text and I think
this ties in with the alien theme
however is still readable.
The way that the masthead is shaped
around the models head for example the
I dips in at her shoulder which makes the
photo seem more curved and as if it has
just fallen there.
The bright colours and colour co-
ordination goes with the theme of a
different planet/aliens and goes
against a lot of normal magazine
covers as the more you look at the
photo you realize how much is really
going on but on first glance it
doesn’t look as if it is clashing too
much or out of place.
8. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched
products have? Some of the common features that I have found in the products I have
researched are that the model/celebrity in the picture is always the main focal point and what the
magazine want you to see first therefore it is seen as a key aspect in a successful magazine front cover,
relating to this in the first 2 front covers that I analysed they used well known celebrities and I think that
this draws a more specific crowd of people that they will be advertising towards. Using the celebrities also
means that they can use their well known names/stage names and in both magazines they are more bold
and focused on then the actual masthead. In the products that I have researched I have found that there is
a clear colour theme in each even if there isn’t much colour that is a continued theme throughout.
• What aspects of the research will you include
within your on work? In my own work I will make sure to use some of these
important aspects to make sure that my own work can be as good as possible. Firstly I will make sure to
keep a keen eye for my colour scheme and make sure that it matches and doesn’t look like It is taking too
much attention away from the main focal point of the model. In my own work I will make sure to make the
actual image interesting so that it attracts the attention of the viewer however I wont take any focus away
from the actual point of the magazine and I will make sure that everything relates and ties into each other.
