Question 4
1. Who would be the audience for
your media product?
Katrina Orlans
2. Who we wanted to target towards
• For our media product, we wanted to target towards people who are having a hard time
struggling to talk to people about how they truly feel. In a way, we wanted to show people
who have a problem about their genders and to also show that there are different ways to
feel comfortable with who they are.
• There are films about transgender, people dressing in drag or documentary type of films that
shows how the main characters would feel about their secret they are keeping. From films
that I have seen snippets, they seem to be made fun or in a subtle way. For example, people
in drag are mostly seen as a joke, even in reality people decides it’s a good thing to make fun
of people who express themselves in different ways.
3. • There are TV shows about someone changing their gender (aka Caitlin Jenner), there are
youtubers that have gone through the gender change process. A good example for
youtubers would be Gigi Gorgeous. The reason for this is because Gigi Gorgeous was one
of our inspirations for our media product. Gigi Gorgeous has a young generation crowd.
Gigi could be a inspiration to help people become more comfortable and to make them
feel as if they will not be judged.
• In a way, my groups media product wants to be supportive and get people to understand
that gender issues should be taken seriously and how they should not been seen as a joke.
We wanted to raise awareness for those people, even if our media product will not make
sense at first. We made it to let the audience question it to show that is how people with
gender issues feel on a daily basis.
4. The main target audience
• The main target audience would be anyone who is either going through the similar situation or
they know someone who is going through that situation and wants to try and understand how
to help.
• The age group could be 16 and older since we placed the media product at a school.
• It can be for either gender
• They can also be facing a similar problem
• They have a friend who is facing the same problem
• I think people who are younger then 16 would be a bit confused with the narrative but can
somehow relate to the protagonist.
• Someone who likes fantasy and drama (or one of the genres)
5. How did we think of the target
audience?
• We wanted our media product to be different from the
other groups and explore ideas that have not been thought
about.
• We thought about transgender people, people in drag and
people with gender issues overall.
• So why not have a teenage audience that would slowly
start to experience the feeling of questioning their selves.
• People who watches our media product will either
question the plot or what will happen is they will get
confused because they don’t understand fully of what is
happening with the protagonist and why it is happening. It
would help make our target audience expand in a way
since they would want to watch it even more to see if it will
become any clearer.
6. Teenagers
• Most teenagers want to escape from their life because it seems too ‘difficult’ or
seems that no one understands how they feel in society making them be
represented as someone going through a ‘dark’ phase.
• The use of escapism that is used in our media product takes the audience into a
different type of world in a realistic way since sadly magic does not really happen.
• Also teenagers are also shown as someone who is confused by their personality or
their surroundings so it helps with our media product because we wanted to show
how teenagers figure out who they really are.
