Hypodermic Needle
• Definition- A linear communication theory which suggests that the media
has a direct and powerful influence on audiences, like being injected with a
hypodermic needle. This theory considers only one option. That the audience are
passive and what they see they will act out or believe
• Example-The news is one way because people believe what the presenters
are saying because they are well known and they will be seen all over tv in every
country. So therefore one opinion is shared and most people will agree with it
because they either don’t really know or they truly believe in there opinion, or
some people like to share there own opinions and not being a sheep.
Uses and Gratifications information
• Information- watch the news because it helps me see what's going on with the
rest of the world and to see if I agree with peoples opinion or go against it.
• Personal identity- I watch films about love story's because it helps me think
what I could do if I ever got myself in the same situations.
Also I could relate to some films characters and how they feel about a certain
situation and see what they do to make the situation better and gives me ideas
what to do myself.
• Integration and Social Interaction- I use social media to talk to friends
also meet new friends who I don’t know and who live at the other side of the
world. I use social media to see how people you know to see how there doing
without messaging them, by looking them up on Facebook or Instagram or other
medias. Social media makes everyone nosey to get in each others business and
also show off what they have in there life.
• Entertainment- I use Netflix to chill out and switch the rest of the world off
and concentrate on the film.

• We use the internet for so many
uses, informational purposes /
educational, entertainment,
personal identity and to
socialise with people.

• Example
– Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook
• What are the advantages to media producers?
• They get money for us creating the content.
• Why would the audience generate content?
– We make content for others to see and to give us feedback
on our thoughts on our photos and statuses
