Planning Brief
BY DILINI GORSIA
Production company: Gorsia Productions
Project Name: Unfaithful
Length
• Five Minutes
Format
• My production will be a short film based on a break up. The genre will be drama.
Characters
• My characters are Natasha, Steph and Tia. They will be played by Stefania
Sopterean, Natalia Cotonou and Sophie Laxton. Natasha and Steph are the main
characters who were in a relationship and Tia is Steph’s best friend who Natasha
cheated on Steph with several times.
Outline
• The basis of the production is a drama romance. The story is based on two girls named
Natasha and Steph. They have just finished a long term relationship due to the fact that
Natasha has cheated on Steph several times with her best friend Tia. Natasha returns from
university and finally picks up the courage to speak to Steph about what happened. She finds
her at the library and agree to speak. It turns out for the worst for Natasha ad Steph walks
away from their relationship.
Target Audience
• The target audience for my film is quite specific due to the fact that there are
numerous aspects that may attract a small audience to my film.
• For example, someone around the age of 18 – 20 that has been through a similar
experience or some sort of break up my be more interested in the film as they are
able to identify with the characters. As well as this, someone who enjoys watching
drama romance type films in particular may also be attracted to my product.
Our target audience is 12 – 25 year olds, both male and female.
Areas of research
•What happened during the break up?
•How did they meet?
•What happened after the break up?
•How did both girls react to the break up?
•Some of the memories they shared together
•How Steph dealt with the truth when she found out
Rationale
• The rationale behind my product is to hopefully stimulate curiosity along with
interest within my audience. I would like my audience to understand the narrative
and try to identify with parts of it. I would like them to see how things like this
could happen to anyone and how it is possible to overcome such events by
walking away from the situation and realising that not everyone deserves a
second chance. The desired impact of this film is to share this story so that the
audience are not only able to connect with Steph but are also able to sympathise
with her and feel her emotion about how she feels and what she went through
when the break up occurred and also when she came out.
How will you test is the product is effective
and successful?
• In order to track the success of the product, I will be conducting a post –
questionnaire. The questions within the survey will help me to really understand
what specific aspects of the production my audience enjoyed the most and what
they think I could’ve improved on.
• Furthermore, I will be showing the final product to as many people as possible by
making it available on a range of platforms, showing it at the film festival and then
hopefully raising a discussion about what people think about it.
• One way this could be done is through social media platforms, such as Facebook,
twitter and YouTube in order to gather a wider response and to also see how
many views the film gets.
Codes and Conventions
• You normally see love interests which are heterosexual, for example The Vow,
Dear John and Titanic.
• non diegetic score music which are very soft and gentle as they reflect the mood
of the film.
• Narrative usually consists of two people trying to unite or stay united
• Mostly high key lighting except the more dramatic or intimate scenes
• Make up is often neutral or darker tones are sometimes used
• Diverse range of settings/locations from start to end
• Visual coding (Mise-en-scene and props in particular)
• Iconography
Resource constraints
• Some of the problems I may be facing are time management, money and equipment etc. This is because,
firstly, it is very hard to schedule filming time, especially because a lot of the film consists of the two main
actors, who are very busy people and don’t have much time to help with filming as they are also studying.
As well as this, there are a large range of cutaways that also need to be filmed which may require some
additional filming time. All the filming sessions along with the written work take up a lot of time.
• Secondly, as I am in a group by myself, money is another limiting factor. This is because I am only able to
work with a small budget for things such as travel expenses and additional editing packages.
• Thirdly, booking out equipment from the schools media department is a constraint as there is a limit to the
amount of times equipment can be taken out during a certain time frame. As well as this, there may be
other groups that book out the same equipment at the same time therefore arranging filming sessions
beforehand is very important and leaving filming until the end may mean equipment is unavailable.
• Finally, as with most productions, my final piece is reliant upon the people featured in the film. This means
that there may be a chance that the actors are unreliable and may cancel filming sessions last minute. This
may result in strain on the final product and when it can be finished.

This means that there may be a chance that the actors are unreliable and may cancel filming sessions last minute. This may result in strain on the final product and when it can be finished.
