3. Information
• To find information and see the news I would normally go on twitter, mainly because I get a lot of the
information quicker than I would if I was to look at a normal news website. I also get multiple opinions
on whatever the subject matter is because of the amount of people that I follow, because of this it
helps me formulate a final opinion of my own. When it comes to information about music and bands I
follow the main twitter account of the group but I also follow a lot of fan accounts and unofficial
update fan accounts, so I can get all of their thoughts and opinions on announcements or new music.
It’s also a good way to make friends with people who like the same music as me. All of that also
satisfies my curiosity because most of the time I think about what the general public thinks about a
particular subject, like a new episode of doctor who, for example, so I’ll go on twitter and search the
subject to see what people think about it, which satisfies my curiosity.
• I also learn about what people are doing, they don’t even need to be celebrities, I can just learn more
about normal people just by reading what they have tweeted about on twitter.
4. Personal identity
• For reinforcing personal values I will either go onYouTube to search for videos made by people with
similar values and behavioural values as mine. This makes it easier to relate to other people and know
there a other people that are similar to me out there.
• However sometimes when I watch other videos made by people who are fairly different to me I will
find myself talking like they do for a while or acting in the way that they do. I found this to be much
more common when I was little and easier to influence, I used to idolize a lot of people that I watched
and wanted to be like them so I acted like them, but as I got older I realised that if I kept doing that I
would lose my own personal identity and I would be just like everybody else, which I don’t like.
• Today I watch reviews and reactions to music and games that I like to see if anyone else has the same
opinion on them as I do, a lot of the time they do which makes me feel like I chose the ‘right’ opinion
which has now been reinforced by other people who feel the same way that I do.
5. Integration and social interaction
• Twitter, Instagram, and reddit are great places to identify with other people, since on all three of
those social media apps I can follow pages that are linked to things that I like, for instance if I searched
for a band that I like it’s a certainty that a lot of fan pages for that band will come up, so I can follow
them and talk and identify with people who like what I like. Those pages are also great places for
social interaction because not only am I meeting new people but we also have topics to talk about
since we both like a lot of same things as one another.
• Those people can also be great substitutes to real world friends that might’ve been lost over time,
sometimes you can have more fun with friends you met online because I don’t have to face the
anxiety of meeting them face to face all the time and I don’t need to worry about awkward silences
that typically fall from real world conversations.
6. Entertainment
• When consuming a form of entertainment I typically go to it for escapism but also relaxation
when I have any time to myself, my favourite forms of entertainment are both, music and
games. I find both of those things are really good at distracting me from a lot of stressful
things that are happening in my life.
• Music is good background noise most of the time when doing something that is particularly
difficult it can help distract me from it a bit. Music can also be extremely relatable and help a
lot of people.
• Games are the best way of turning my mind off and forgetting about the what has
happened in the day, for a while at least.
8. • The hypodermic needle theory suggests that when a message or idea is given to the audience,
the audience will accept the message immediately and believe everything about it, without
second guessing it.The theory is what the mass media uses to influence a large group of people
and audiences because they know that by using this method they will get an immediate
response from the intended audience that they wanted a reaction from. The message that the
audience are given are then directly influenced and impacted by it, and will more often then not
tell all of their friends about the information that they have been given, which in turn will
influence those people to see what the original media source has to offer them.
• An example of what this theory is would be, if someone's favourite celebrity or artist came out
and said something in favour of a particular side during a voting period for something, then the
fan of that artist or celebrity might instantly change their whole perspective and veiws of that
side and vote for them instead, just because their favourite artist likes them and is voting for
them. A lot of the time this wasn’t even the intention of the artist to begin with, which really
shows the reach and impact that they have on our culture, it also does a good job at supporting
this theory.

10. The conjuring 2
• The target audience for this movie are teenagers age 15-24 year olds and upwards. Clearly
they wanted to reach a demographic that like watching horror films, with the dark color's,
all of the dark and satanic imagery, and the main character of the film in the middle who
looks really scared about something. The movie wasn’t made with a gender demographic
in mind, they want to appeal to both sides.
• Some people might even want to watch this movie to be informed and learn something,
since the movie is supposedly based on a true story, so those people will be known as the
secondary audience. That’s also a good way to bring in the target audience, they watch
horror movies for entertainment and to be scared, so by saying that the story actually
happened in real life, it adds a whole new element of horror to a lot of people.
• By having a scared younger girl for the focus of the poster they are showing that they
aren’t worried about upsetting a sub culture of people, if they were trying to spread a
message they would have her standing and looking brave, however that would break any
suspense that the poster has, so we already know that they made this movie for everyone
to go in and watch, they only care about their movie being entertaining.
11. Black panther
• The black panther movie poster is very cleaver. It’s a superhero movie from marvel so
we know that a lot of children aged 0-14 are already going to go and see this, the
bright colors on the poster and the action that is within the movie will always appeal to
the younger demographic, and marvel always do a very good job at appealing to that
group, which shows in how much money the movies make.
• However, all marvel movies have a secondary audience and that’s adults, of any race
and gender, they all enjoy this kind of movie but for a different reason then the main
audience would. The children can idolize the superhero's, but the adults can relate to
their real world problems. And black panther appeals to a wide demographic in their
secondary audience, the movie has diversity and appeals to every culture, however the
movie does tackle racism against black people, some people could tell that just by
looking at the poster, it’s going to have the standard marvel ‘good guy vs bad guy’ to
appeal to the children who are the main demographic, but the real world sub plots are
something that the secondary audience can relate to, and the message of diversity in
the movie shows in this poster by having any races and genders all together in one
place. But also the movie can appeal to the comic book fans, who grew up reading
their comics and will get nostalgic, just by looking at this poster, which in turn will
make them go out and see the movie.
12. The Incredibles 2
• The poster for the this movie can be split for two different types of people, the
primary audience, who are children aged 0-14, this shows in the amount of bright
colors that have been used in this poster, the bright red and yellow have been put
in the direct center of the poster to make it stand out to the primary audience.
The best way to appeal to the primary audience is by showing all of the main
characters right away in mid movement, most of them all using their
superpowers, which is what children love to watch so it’s a really good way of
drawing them in to watch the movie. Also the Disney and Pixar logos are right
above the name of the movie which a lot of the primary audience might
recognize from some of their other favorite movies.
• This poster does also do a really good job at appealing to it’s secondary audience,
which are actually adults, adults who grew up watching the first movie. The
name, logo and characters will instantly recognizable to adults aged 25-44. since
the first movie is so old the secondary audience of this sequel will go and see this
movie just because they were children when they saw the first one so they’d see
it just for the nostalgia factor, even if they aren’t bothered about the story
14. • A really good example of what user generated content is, isYouTube. The website would be
literally empty if there were no videos on it, which are all made by the users of the site.
They all have the freedom to make whatever kind of videos that they want, assuming that
they don’t break any of the guidelines. And the way thatYouTube keeps the user generated
content coming in is by paying people who make the videos, which not only makes it their
job, but it also encourages them into making more content for the site, which will bring
more overall traffic.
• Another example of user generated content is in games, such as minecraft, or terreria. In
both of those games you are dropped into a vast but empty world in which you figure out
that you’re meant to pretty much build the game for yourself
15. • Why would the audience generate content?- most of the time the audience
want to create their own content because they can let their own creativity thrive
and show. They can go to games where they can build whatever they want in a
way it’s a method of expressing themselves, much like art and drawing.
• What are the advantages to media producers?- By having games like this it
means that the media producers don’t need to ‘try’ as hard when actually
crafting the game, making a sandbox is much easier and cheaper than a full
game with a story. They only need to make the base concept of the game, and
then let the players do whatever they want.
