Noor Naoum
Audience
• An audience is a individual or group of people
who consume a media text.
• They are the people who are going to
consume your product and give you feedback
on it.
• With their feedback they help to enhance and
make your product better.
Audience expectations of genre
Generally the audience expect the following
from the genre we have chosen:
• They would expect there to be a character
with a psychological problem.
• To have a lot of tense, fast paced moments.
• There to be very fast paced music which adds
effect to the film by making it more dramatic.
• To have a mystery to work out and solve.
Audience expectations of opening
sequence and genre
Generally the audience would expect the following for a
psychological drama opening sequence:
• The audience would expect to be introduced to the main character in the
opening sequence.
• They would expect there to be lots of confusion in order for there to be a
high amount of enigma.
• They would also expect the opening sequence to be implicit so that the
audience can engage and be interested.
• There to be very odd things going on in the surroundings.
• The characters to be in an isolated place.
• There to be a cliff hanger at the end to keep them wondering what’s going
to happen so they watch the rest of the film.
Institution:
Blockbuster or Independent?
We are mostly inspired by blockbuster movies such as:
- Se7evn
- The one that flew over a cookoo’s nest
- Beautiful mind
- Momento
- Shutter Island
Our opening sequence would be a blockbuster film because
- Psychological drama films would be of an interest to a wider audience so that they get an inner insight of the
psychological problems that some people go through on an everyday basis. Which also could relate to some of the
people in the audience.
- The inspiration we got was mainly from blockbuster films.
Release:
Global because a psychological problem is a global everyday issue.
Also our target audience is mainly the UK and USA.
Exhibition:
The film would be a blockbuster film, therefore it would be exhibited in the followings ways:
• Cinema
• DVD
• Social networks (online)
Mass or Niche
It is target at a mass audience because its a
blockbuster movie and also because of the fact
that the opening sequence relates to a condition
that could happen at any age.
We also feel that our conventions and enigmas
would attract a mass audience.
What is a target and secondary
audience?
Target Audience Secondary Audience
A target audience is the audience that
you are intentionally making the product
for.
