2. Considerations:
• As my product will not involve anything like filming or requiring external roles such as actors, I don’t have many issues. I will need
usage of my laptop, and I will have to take regular breaks to avoid overheating and also for my own health and safety.
• I ensured Covid-19 would not affect my production work. All of my work will be accomplished solo, as I won’t need any external
people. I will be able to do all of my work at home or in college, as I will be working from my own personal laptop. Before the
project started, I purchased my laptop and graphics tablet so I could easily transport my work back and forth between college and
home. This is so that despite any new covid lockdown rules that may happen over the course of my production, I can still continue
to work fully and properly.
• The software (Creative Cloud, Clip Studio Paint) I will be using to create my product has autosave functions and cloud save
functions, so in the circumstances that the software crashes or my laptop becomes unusable, I will still be able to recover my work.
This is important because for things like illustration, a lot of hours go into creating these works and if they become lost or
inaccessible I will not have time to recreate them.
• I experienced very little problems during my production because I am confident in my ability and the software I’m using, I also
researched well and became knowledgeable about my product and what I am aiming to create.
3. Practical and Technical Problems
How will I make sure that I do not encounter issues:
Equipment Take regular breaks to avoid overheating, packing my bag the night before college so I
don’t forget to bring any equipment. I will also make sure I sign into the required
accounts automatically, and that my software licenses are up to date. I will also use a
new graphics tablet that I am able to transport easily, and I will make sure it is properly
set up with the correct drivers installed.
Techniques I will experiment with the techniques I want to use so that I am confident in what I’m
doing. For anything I am unsure about, I will use online tutorials to help me. For any
issues that may arise in my ability, I can easily troubleshoot through the internet as the
software I use offers wide ranges of support in forms of tutorials and forums.
Storage I will back up my work on multiple devices, such as both a USB stick and cloud storage.
This is so that if the files on the device I’m working from become corrupted, I have 2
forms of backup. If the USB stick becomes lost, I will still have access to the cloud storage
backups.
Power I will ensure that I am always working from a place where I am able to charge my laptop.
I will fully charge my devices the night before college in case I am unable to immediately
plug in my laptop. As I’m using a laptop, the power needed isn’t as great as the power
4. Practical and Technical Problems
Ability I went into this project already confident in my ability to create my product. I specifically
based my proposal on my artistic ability. While I am confident in my ability to illustrate, I
wasn’t as confident in my abilities of video editing. I have only slightly used after effects
for small things, and this will be my first time using it for a large project. To ensure that I
am able to use it properly, I will make sure I properly read through tutorials and how to
use the software correctly. I will also experiment with the software, trying out all of its
different utilities and what is useful for me. The most important information to learn is
the basics, such as text and basic animation. For more complex things, I can research
how best to do them, speak to my tutor, or use the presets that After Effects give.
Storage As I will be doing video editing in my project, I must ensure that I have enough storage
space for high quality video rendering. To do this, I will have 1TB of cloud storage
alongside a second hard drive I installed into my laptop.
Backing Up I will back up my work in multiple ways, this includes emailing my work to my tutors,
utilizing the auto-save and auto-backup functions of software, and also manually
backing up my work on different storage mediums.
5. Specific Technical Issues I Encountered:
• Being new to After Effects, I struggled to make things look like the mental image I had of
my trailer. One particular struggle was creating a typing animation effect with text. After
Effects already has a preset animation for this named ‘Typewriter’ although it wasn’t
specific enough for my needs. To solve this, I searched through various online tutorials. I
found one where I could create a slider function that controls the speed of the typing,
which I found incredibly useful. Through this, my issue had been solved.
• Another issue that arose was creating the 3D render of the game case in Adobe
Dimensions. Adobe Dimensions is relatively new software, and because of this it’s a little
hard to function and lacks some features. Although despite this, I opted to use it over
different 3D modelling apps such as blender due to the easiness of it, as dimensions
gives you premade shapes and is specifically created for things like product design and
marketing. The problems I faced in the software was that when I created my game case
design, the image did not wrap around the 3D shape correctly, the image would only
show on one side. To solve this, I had to go back into Photoshop and crop each part of
the box art for each side of the 3D shape it would show up on. It was tedious work, but it
worked in the end.
6. Time Management: Pre-Production
Planning – To make sure that I’m on top of planning, I will share my
work with tutors so I can get constant feedback.
Research – To make sure that I’m on top of research, I will share my
work with tutors so I can get constant feedback.
Proposal – To make sure that I’m on top of my proposal, I will share my
work with tutors so I can get constant feedback.
7. Time Management: Production
Production – To ensure I am managing my time well during production,
I will be selective about what work I get done at college. This is because
I find it hard to focus on things like written work at home, and I’m
much more well suited to do illustration work at home because I won’t
be interrupted by things like lunch break or classes ending and I will be
able to contain a constant creative flow.
8. Time Management: Post-Production
Reflection – I will make sure I will take screenshots of my work as I’m
doing it and create notes of my work process so I will have an easier
time looking back on the work I have done so I can reflect on it better.
Evaluation – To save time, I will evaluate my work as I produce it. This is
so I won’t have to struggle to remember details of things after
production has finished.
