2. planning and pitching- Environment of
presentation
For my presentation environment I have taken photos of the following thing that
where used to help present my pitch to the publisher. I used a computer to help get
up my presentation ready to present to the publisher .I also used an interactive
whiteboard to help present my slide at an larger scale which was easy for my
audiences to see. Next I used a slide changer which helped me to change the slides
as I was talking , so I wouldn't have to keep going to the computer to change slides.
Finally a tripod and camera was used to record my presentation and to keep the
camera still ,so the footage would have good quality.

When presenting my pitch it was recorded on a camera.
This will enable me to look back and see what
improvement it could make, if ask to present again. The
following images are evidences of my video presentation
and my script what was used to help present my work.
4. Materials used
The materials I used where PowerPoint to help write up
my presentation and then uploaded it to prezi.
I also used the internet to find research which helped
me to construct my own magazine. I took inspiration
from “Top of the Pops” and “Billboard”.

12. Planning & Pitching: feedback of pitch-
interview & Survey monkey
Interview:
1. What do you think I can do to improve my pitch?
2. Was my magazine cover appealing?
3. What could I do to improve my chosen magazine cover?
4. Did I cover everything from the mark scheme?
5. Were my proposals detailed enough?
6. What would you change about my front cover?
For the next three slides they will consisted of question and feedback on my pitch presentation. This will help
me make any changes that are needed, and find out which areas I have done well to a high standard.
13. Survey Monkey
From my feedback I have learned
that I need to add the spending
power slide and socio-economic
needs. Also when I was presenting I
have to not read my script word by
word as it makes me look stiff when
presenting.
Question one Question two
From my results I learned that my
magazines cover was very appealing , as
it was easy to tell who the inspiration
was . It also had a good consistent
colour scheme , which made it
appealing.
14. Survey Monkey
When it come to improving my
magazine , I need to make my
strapline smaller as it looks out of
places on the front cover. I also need
a bit more cover lines, but I think
there is enough so I really need to
focus on the strapline.
Question three Question four
When it come to making sure
everything was covered on the
mark scheme , there was a few
errors . But the majority of the
mark scheme was all covered in
my pitch.
15. Survey Monkey
From my feedback I learned that
my proposals had a lot of detail ,
which helped make my pitch
seem more well planed and
cover the topic.
Question five Question six
For my front cover things that could do
with a few changes is by making the
main image brighter as it is the main
focus of the magazine.

21. Planning & Pitching: Production plan
This is a detailed production
plan for the development
and creation of Disco
Magazine. Included is the
sections of pre-production,
production and post
production. The production
time is over a two week
period, I feel that this is
appropriate as there will be
over thirty members of staff
working on the magazine
pages with the highest
quality software and
equipment. Two weeks was
chosen as this is the typical
length of time that the
original magazine of
inspiration 'Billboard
Magazine' has for creation.
22. Planning & Pitching: Calendar Events
My magazine will be published on the second of
January 2017. Within the magazine I have promoted
the artist latest album. I have also promoted concert
tickets that can be won on the front cover. With
seasonal holiday such as Christmas will have an effect
on the production and distribution. But it will not be
effected for long as the workers will only have
Christmas day, and boxing day off and then it will be
back to the production of the magazine.

The Press Complaints Commission closed on 8 September 2014 and has
been replaced by the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO).
You can find full details of the new organisation, and how to complain, at
www.ipso.co.uk
From this I recognize that all complaints are
handled by a regulator body as the screenshot
explains how all are switched to IPSO that now
handle all complaints .
24. Planning & Pitching: Legal and
Ethical Issues
What is IPSO?:
The Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) is the independent
regulator for the newspaper and magazine industry in the UK. We hold
newspapers and magazines to account for their actions, protect individual
rights, uphold high standards of journalism and help to maintain freedom of
expression for the press.
What does IPSO do?:
The IPSO make sure that all members that are involved in some form of media
follow the editors code. The IPSO main job is to investigate the complaints that
have been made and that may break the editors code as well. The IPSO can
change or correct any work that may break the editors code.
The IPSO can also investigate the standards that are failing and they can fine
publishers up to £1 million they also operate a 24 hour anti-harassment advice
line. The IPSO can also provide advice for editor and journalists, they also
provide training and guidance for journalists so they can uphold the highest
possible standards.
25. Planning & Pitching: Legal and Ethical Issues
Editors' Code of Practice
Accuracy:
• The press have to follow the following things they must take
care when not to publish inaccurate or misleading information
that is not supported by the text. If there is misleading text
they must be corrected followed by an apology when
republished. Fair opportunity to reply to significant
inaccuracies should be given when reasonably called for. The
press must distinguish clearly between comments and facts. A
publication must be reported accurately with the outcome of
an action for defamation to be a party, unless an agreed
settlement states .
Privacy:
• Everyone has the right to respect his/her privacy and the family
life. The editor will be expected to justify intrusion into any
individual's private life without consent. It is also unacceptable
to have photographs of the individual without their
permission in a public or private place.
Harassment:
• Journalist must not engage in intimidation, harassment or
persistent pursuit. There must not be any persist in questions ,
calls, pursuing or photographing individuals when not given
permission. When they are asked to identify themselves they
must and say who they represent. The editor must insure these
principles are followed and observe those who are working for
them and take care not to use non-compliant material form
other sources.
26. Planning & Pitching: Legal and Ethical
Issues
Copyright is legal right that protects the use of your work
once your idea has been physically expressed. The current
copyright legislation in the UK is the Copyright, Designs and
Patents Act 1988. IP is Intellectual property refers to
creations of the mind, such as inventions; literary and artistic
works; designs; and symbols, names and images used in
commerce.
This links to my magazine as the company of the magazine
will have legal right to the magazine and logos that could be
used. So no one can take right with out the companies
consent.
27. Planning & pitching-Risk assessment
When ever taking or editing images for the front cover and DPS I had to take into
consideration the risk assessment. This meant that I had to look at all the individual of
"safe working practices" and how they could affect the final results.
Image risk assessment
Permissions:
Before taking the image I needed to gain the artists full
permission to be photographed and for the image to be
published both online and print media. I found that the best
way to gain permission was to send an email to the artist
describing what they have to wear, the location and time of
the shoot. I also attached a permission form which they had
to sign and date and send back. By gaining permission
through this method the magazine has declared proof of a
signed document, this means that if there are any future
legal difficulties it would not be the magazine at fault.
Area assessment:
When scouting the location for the images several area
checks had to take place. This risk assessment had to be
conducted to guarantee both the artist and the people who
are taking the images are safe. Areas that should be looked
at are possible hazards such as uneven ground levels,
running water, heights and weather conditions.
Also the area need to be suitable and appropriate for artist
and what we are trying to represent in our photos.
Evidence of a permission letter
that was sent and signed by the
artist.
28. Software Risk Assessment:
Planning & pitching-Risk assessment
Resizing an image:
When editing the images that I had taken on location I
wanted to keep a professional high image quality. This
meant that I looked into different ways of guaranteeing
that the final images would have no evidence of resizing
or pixilation. I found that the most useful method of
resizing images while also keeping the original high
quality pixel size was to use the ' Transform Tool' on
Adobe Photoshop. This technique is when resizing the
image to hold down the 'Shift' key on the keyboard. The
purpose of this tool is to keep the dimensions of the
image the same so they are not stretched and distorted
which can in turn affect the pixel quality.
Eyedropper Tool:
To maintain consistency throughout Disco Magazine I
wanted to make sure that all of the colours were the
same. On Adobe Photoshop is the 'Eyedropper Tool' that
helps choose and find a colour of an object, then you
have the opportunity to save the chosen colour into a
swatches palette. This meant that every time I created a
new text or object to be inserted into the magazine
pages, to find the magazines colour I had to go into my
'Saved Swatches' palette and choose the colour I wanted
to use. This sped up the colour choosing process as well
as keeping a professional standard for the magazine.

30. Planning & pitching- conclusion
In this learning outcome I looked further into the feedback that I
received once I had presented my pitch. This meant in depth analysing of
the suggested improvements and how they will affect the production of
the magazine. I gained feedback through several forms this included a
structured, recorded interview, witness statements and an online survey
(Survey Monkey) that was sent to everyone who listened to the
presentation.
Additionally I felt it very important to look in detail at the legal and
ethical issues surrounding planning and producing an indie music
magazine.
