• When your work is marked and returned, to complete the evaluation, you need to
draft your written work into presentations, using a mixture of video, podcasting
and Prezi software.
• Your evaluation will then be presented on your blog as 7 separate questions, under

5. How did you attract/address your audience?
3. Marykate
6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this

YOU ON Friday 25thH
FOR YOU TO TRANSFER THEM TO PREZI AND DO VIDEOS/PODCASTS
OF YOUR WORK FOR PRESENTATION ON YOUR BLOGS.
Question 1:
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
For this question use elements of your product research, where you have analysed
existing products. Use the table below to help draft ideas

For all of the above:
• Discuss the conventions you have used
• Evaluate how successful you have been in developing conventions
• Explain and describe influences on your text and how you have used conventions
• Use examples from real magazines and images of them, as well as examples from
your own magazine

Question 2: How does your media product represent particular social groups?
How are age groups/gender/social classes represented? Use the skills and knowledge you
gained for preparation of section A of the exam.
Question 2 Notes
My final media product represents a young female social group. I decided to
keep my colour scheme stereotypically female; I chose mainly pinks, purples
and pastels as these colours portray female innocence. I have used a very
naturally beautiful model with little makeup for my cover page as I feel my
target audience should look up to someone with a more natural and achievable
beauty as opposed to the over photoshopped model pictures in similar generic
magazines.
The age group I have targeted for my magazine is young teens aged 13-17. I feel
the content of my product reflects this well. I have used very informal,
language throughout my articles, subheadings and quotes. I have written my
articles as though I am talking to my reader, making the the whole feel to my
magazine very personal and relatable to my target audience.
The social group I have tried to represent through my final magazine product is
working class, I have portrayed this through a variety of features such as, the
topics I have discussed, the language I have used and the imagery of a 'girl next
door' type of model, I feel that all these features combined make my magazine
more relatable to a standard working class teen girl.

Question 3: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and
why?
The two major publishing houses in the UK are as IPC and Bauer Media. Look at the
profile of each of the magazines on the links below. Look at the existing magazines, or
‘brands’ they distribute. Are there any similar magazines/brands to yours? Would your
magazine fit their profiles? Which of the publishing houses would best suit your
magazine?
http://www.ipcmedia.com/about
http://www.ipcmedia.com/brands
http://www.bauermedia.co.uk/
http://www.bauermedia.co.uk/about
http://www.bauermedia.co.uk/brands
Question 3 Notes
From the two major publishing houses in the uk I think IPC media would be a more
suitable publisher for my magazine. I feel this would be most appropriate as it seems to
publish a lot of magazines aimed at women such as 'look' 'woman's weekly' and 'now'
magazine. As my magazine is also aimed at woman I would think it would fit well into
the kind of magazines they distribute.
Also IPC media publish "teen now" magazine which is a very similar brand to my
magazine as it's aimed at young female teens. They publish this 68 pages magazine full
with exclusive interviews and a free poster with every issue. This is very similar to the
content of my magazine so I feel this would be the perfect publisher for my magazine.

Question 4: Who would be the audience for your media product?
Relate this to your existing market research. Also carry out a focus group over the break
where you show your finished product to at least 5 people. The best way to do this is
set up a closed group on Facebook and invite friends to comment upon your work.
Screen shot these comments to present on your blog. Ask them questions related to the
product i.e. Content/Genre/Photographs/Colours/Fonts and the overall success of the
magazine you have produced.

Question 5: How did you attract/address your audience?
State your target audience, based upon your market research. Assess the responses of
your focus group from question 4. Consider how the content; photography, house style
and design and layout of your magazine, as well as use of the Guttenberg principle on
your cover/pages addresses the needs of your target audience.
Question 5 Notes
Question 6: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
Evaluate your progress with all of the technologies you have used, such as Photoshop,
Eblogger, Slideshare and digital cameras whilst completing your project
9. Marykate
For all of the above assess:
• Successes in your use of them
• Limitations in your use them
Comment upon how we use digital technology, via TECHNOLOGICAL CONVERGENCE, to
research, record, edit, distribute and present our work from the same machine.
Question 6 Notes
I have used a verity of different technologies while constructing my main final product.
Photoshop was the key technology I used to construct my magazine pages. The
software enabled me to create my pages to a high standard as it had all the tools I
needed. My knowledge of photo shop has grown throughout this progress and I know
have a developed a greater understands of Photoshop. I have also begun to use blogger
as a way to present my work online. My knowledge of this website has grown
throughout the progress of making my final product as I have become more
experienced in how the website works to upload my work. Furthermore the software
Microsoft has helped me produce product research for my product. Technological
convergence has allowed me to do all this researching recording editing and
distributing from one device, the computer.

Question 7: Looking back at your preliminary task, (college magazine) what do you
feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
Evaluate what you learnt on your ancillary, and how you have progressed in terms of use
of:
• digital photography, (composition/rule of thirds/lighting/uploading and saving
work etc)
• knowledge of design and layout
• use of Photoshop and photo manipulation
Question 7 Notes
Since my ancillary project I have progressed in terms of my knowledge of Photoshop.
While creating the magazine for my ancillary i only had a basic understanding of
Photoshop which limited what I could do. I found it hard to transfer the ideas in my
head into Photoshop as I did not acquire the skills needed. Since finishing my final
product I have gained further skills and techniques allowing me to produce a much
better standard of magazine cover than in my previous ancillary project. Having a
better understanding of the different tools and their purpose allowed me to
manipulate images and layouts, for example I have used 'lock guides' to ensure my
layout is consistently aligned throughout my magazine pages.
In my ancillary project the images I had taken were of low quality due to the camera
I had used. This affected the final outcome of my ancillary magazine as it made it
look amateur, in comparison to what I had planned and researched.
When it came to creating my final product I made the decision to use a high quality
Nikon and Canon camera which dramatically improved the quality of my pictures. I
was also able to produce a clearer more focused image as I was able to operate the
cameras image stabilisation feature. In my ancillary project my initial image was of
poor lighting quality, however since experimenting with different lighting techniques
my final image was of much better lighting.
