The final stepsforproducingmymagazine will be tosenditto the publicationsothattheycan printit. Thiscouldbe done byany printingpublicationbutmymagazine of
inspirationusesEgmont.
Monday: Research productionprocess for my magazine
Date of publication– The firstthingto do isto setup a date of publication.Once thisdate hasbeenestablished, formymagazine Ineedtocreate a
schedule.A scheduleisaplanon howI am goingto go about the productionprocessandwheneachof the processwill occur.
Managing the schedule - The schedule shouldbe made insucha waythat there are provisionsforcertainmishapssothatevenwhenthese mishapsoccur,I
can alwaysmeetthe deadline.Thisisthe reasonwhya propermanagementof the scheduleisveryvital.
Editorial and budgetary decision–The editorial decisionsinvolvethe magazine’seditorial teamassemblinganddecidingwhattopicswill be coveredinthe
nextissue of the magazine.Afterdecidingwhichtypesof article ideasortopics, newsstories, illustrationsand photographs will be usedinthe magazine,
the team nowmakesthe budgetarydecisions.
ContentAcquisition– The contentacquisitionprocessis the mostimportantstepbecause withoutcontentwe simplycannothave the magazine inthe first
place. There are two majorwaysthat contentcan be gatheredfora magazine. The firstisthroughin-house staff writersandthe secondwayisthrough
external writers thatare commissionedtowrite ontopicsthatare specialistinnature.Itisat thisstage that artworkandgraphics are also worked on.The
artworkis definedasillustrationsand picturesthatare goingto be placedinthe magazine.Graphicsare the pictures orimagesthatare designedwitha
computerprogram.
Sub-editing– Subeditingfocusesonone majorthing,whichisqualitycontrol.The magazinesub-editorwillbe responsible forthisjob.Thisstepinvolves
the followingimportantthings:
 Checkingof the accuracy of all facts inthe articles
 Making sure that wordsare properlyspelled
 Making sure that grammar andpunctuationare usedcorrectly
 Making sure that all articlesfollowthe house-style
Unit G321 – Foundation Portfolio in Media – Production Plan Template
 Workingon the page layout
Page Layout –Their jobisto typesetandlayoutthe variouspagesthatcome togethertomake the magazine.Inperformingthistask, theyuse verypowerful
DesktopPublishing(DTP) programssuchasInDesignorPagemakertogetthe jobdone.Itis at thisstage that advertsfromadvertisersare placedintothe
content.
Proofreading– once the above stage has beencompleted, the nextstage isthe proofreading. The editorialdepartmentwill printoutahardcopyof the
magazine forthe sole purpose of readingthroughtofindandcorrect any mistakesinit.Itis easiertoproofreada hardcopythanit isto proofreada
softcopy.Anymistake thatisspottedisquicklycorrectedonthe DTPfile. The editorial teamkeepsproofreadinguntilevery memberissatisfiedthatall
mistakeshave beencorrected.
File emailedtoprinter – Afterthe proofreadingstage, the DTPfile of the entire magazine issenttothe printerwhose jobwill be toprintthe magazine. Pre-
pressisdefinedasthe processof checkingtomake sure thatyou are sendingall the fontsandimagesneededforthe magazine withyourfile.Once this
stage is over, the printingcompanytakesover.Butbefore the printingcompanyprintsthe hundredsorthousandsof copiesrequestedbythe publication,
the companyfirstprintsa fewcopies andsendsthemto the publication’seditorforcheckingonce again.Thisiscalledthe printer’sproofs. If the editorand
histeamare satisfiedwiththe printer’sproofs, thenthe greenlightisgiventothe printerformassprintingtocommence.Eachcopythe printerprintsisthe
final finishedproduct.
Distribution– Thisisthe laststage of the entire process. The printingcompany, havingfinishedwiththe printingof the magazineswill package themneatly
and sendthemtoa warehouse.Fromthe warehouse, the magazinesare thendistributedandthensoldtothe public. Thisprocesswillbe done eachweek
as my magazine isgoingtobe a weeklypublication.

Tuesday: Researchinghow long it takes to release ‘We Love Pop’
‘We Love Pop’is releasedonaweeklybasis, therefore whenproducingtheirmagazine theyare veryearlyinadvance astheyneedtohave enoughtime toproduce it.
Producinga weeklymagazine meansthatthe magazine will have toguesswhatcelebritywillbe popularatthattime andwhat the target audience will wanttoreadabout.
How and WhenI plan to produce my magazine:
Whenproducingmymagazine Iplan onusingPhotoshop, thisisbecause Ifinditeasyto create a layoutand remainthe brandidentityoneachpage (frontcover, contents
page and double page spread).Iplanonproducingmymagazine everyweek, thisisbecausethe magazine of inspirationisaweeklymagazine releasedeveryweek, and
therefore Iwill copy‘We Love Pop’. Therefore myfirstmagazine releasedate willbe inDecember.
