name to remember not
long like other magazine
titles.
Disco: This connotes the
theme of pop as this
music would have been
heard at a disco. It is also
a unique way to call a
magazine this as not
many magazines go by
this name.

Pop Galaxy: This connotes
the senses of mystery ,as pop
music is a way of escape from
reality. The word Galaxy is
another form of escape as it
so big and mysterious just
like pop music.

(Disco)
Mood board conclusions I have chosen these
images because my
magazine will not only
contain the latest
music, but also the
latest fashion trends
and what works well
together. I have also
added social media
site because if my
magazine was made in
the industry to make
the magazine more
popular they would be
able to follow them
magazine online.
Magazine of inspiration Masthead: By using
clean and cut colors and
font, this make the
magazine look more
mature and grown up,
not for people under the
age of 20. This type of
font is used consistently
through out the
magazine. This has
inspired me as I want my
magazine to seem
professional , also I want
it to catch the eyes of
the young adults of
today .
Main Image: By the use
of the front cover it
clearly illustrates, that
the picture of Katy Perry
is the main focus of this
issue ,of Billboard
magazine. Katy Perry is
an musical artist
sensation who is loved
and adored by many.
This has inspired me to
make sure my model of
the magazine really
stands out form the
crowed . This can be
achieve by using
different camera angles
to help connect the
audiences with the
magazine.
Cover lines: May
consider adding
cover lines so the
reader will know
what else is to
come up in the
magazine.
Puff promotion:
Will think about
adding in a
competition and
having Puff
around certain
bits of writing.
Main Image: May use a
similar style of clothing,
but will experiment with
different camera angles
Double page of inspiration
This double page
spread use
differentiated
questions and
answers. This is used
effectively as we can
see what type of
questions where asked,
for the said celebrate
to come up with that
answer. It is also an
easy layout for the
reader to understand
and read . This is
inspirational to me as it
is another way to help
style the double page .
This make the page
more interesting to
read and a lot more fun
then having blocks of
writing to read through
Main image: Theses images
have been used for the
interview with pixie Lott. This
take on the effect of a grown
up state of mind which could
imply, her seriousness that is
take in the music industry.
This has inspired me to use a
similar format with my
images, by using a different
range of head shots. This will
enable for the audiences to
interact with the image if
there is direct contact e.g. eye
contact.
Second image: These
pictures have been
chosen as each person
may have a connection
to pixie. They may work
with her in the
industry, and are being
interviewed to find out
who is the real pixie
Lott. This has also
inspired me to use
different images by not
just using the same
artist in different angle
shouts .
This magazine has page
numbers, so I will
consider using page
numbers in my own
magazine.
Summary of ideas (Top of the Pops)
Disco
• Genre: My magazine will be aimed at people between the ages of 15-18 , it will also be aimed at the female gender. The
reason why I have chosen this age and gender, is because by doing previous research the female audience would be more
attracted to my type of magazine.
• Colors: When it come to the subject of color for my magazine I have experimented with a lot of colors. These colors were baby pink &
blue, white ,red and black. But the colors that stood out the most from all the rest was baby pink & blue and white as they all work well
together and don’t overwhelm the front cover with powerful colors. These colors will help complement the image of the subject as it will
make them stand out more and catch the readers attention.
• Price: From previous research I have discovered that popular girl magazines such as the “Shout” are around the price
range of three pound or less. So I will be ranging my magazine to be between the prices of two to three pounds. As this is
less expensive and will make the reader want to buy this magazine over a five to six pounds magazine.
• Size of magazine if it was made: My magazine if it was made would be printed on A4 sheets, as it is easier to
construct into a booklet form. Whereas is it was A3 it would be more difficult to construct, it may hold more information
on each page but in the long run it will use up less time to use A4 sheets of paper.
Proposal ( Disco magazine)
Format The format of what I am going to create is a magazine. I am going to create a new pop
magazine in the form of a front cover, double page spread as part of marketing project for
Disco magazine.
Working title My working title for my magazine is Disco . The font style interlinks with the pop theme ,and
is clean cut so it is easy to read. The color scheme of the title will be in purple or maybe black
and white I haven't decided yet. The title will be placed on the left hand side of the magazine.
Genre The Genre of music is pop music and will be aimed at the younger generation.
Content My magazine will hold content on artist , fashion ,song lyrics and interviews along with
photos . The magazine will also feature new artist in the industry and other well known artist
such as Katy Perry.
Style or
approach
The denotation of the colour scheme for the magazine front cover will be baby pink, purple
and white. I chose to have the colour baby pink as the background because many pop
magazine have the colour scheme of baby pink not as the background but in another aspect
of the magazine. I also chose the colour purple and white because it will help the writing
stand out from the pink background with a white box and purple writing.
Audiences My magazine will be aimed at young female teenagers between the ages of 15 and 18. I have
chosen this age range because music is all around and these are the ages they begin to have
a particular taste of music.
Length The magazine will be printed on A4 as this will be easy to constrict if it was made in
production. My magazine will have on average 40 pages or less depending on how much
content can be found and constructed together.
Frequency My magazine will be released every fortnight as it will hold more content and bring exclusive
gossip, that will leave you waiting until the next issue is released.
Step by Step (Front cover)
Open up Photoshop and set up a blank canvas set to the size of A4. You are then going to click on the ruler tool (Ctrl+R) so that everything on
your canvas will be in line and in place. To hide the ruler lines you press(Ctrl + H). First thing to do is change the colour of your background on
the canvas, it best to change the background to the colour that you have suggested in your mind map. To change the colour look to the side
bar for a box with the colours going from dark to light ( or just the 12th box down the side bar). Then change the colour by using the coloured
boxes at the bottom of the tool bar and then have the colour as you wish. Next you are going to want to put the most important conventions
in first. An example of this masthead and barcode with the issue date, website address, small masthead logo and publisher logo. When
adding your barcode you can insert an image of one by going to ‘file’ and the ‘place’. Then your going to click (Ctrl+T), you can change the
shape and size of the image , then move it to the desirable position.
Above or to the side of the barcode you can insert text to add your additional information by clicking the ‘T’ on the side bar in Photoshop.
Now that you’ve done that you are going to place your masthead and strapline. What you need to do for this part is add the shapes of the
masthead and strapline by clicking on the solid square on the tool bar ( 18th box down) and draw to the size you want. Then you add the
magazine name and text and also the strapline. If you ever want to move this around all together and keep everything in the same place,
highlight the layers on the far right , right click and click ‘ link layer’. Depending on your logo, you can add text effects by right clicking on the
text layer and go to ‘blending option’.
The next convention that you should add next is the photo you want on your front cover. If you go to ‘file’ and then ‘ place’ you can add an
image that you have taken for your front cover. To remove the background of that image have the said image selected and find the quick
selection tool on the tool bar (4th down), then select the background you want to get rid of and make sure you don’t delete parts of the
picture you need to keep. To neaten the edges click on the eraser ( 13th down) and select the airbrush tool and to do this look in the top left
of the screen at the eraser and find it on the drop down. Move the image around on the page and change the shape and size to how you
want it. If you want to add an effect you can either go on the layer and to ‘ blending option’ again or at the top go to filter and edit to how
you want the picture to look.
To make it look like a magazine, you need to add a strapline, anchorge text, puff promotion, quote and cover stories. Use the text icon in
the bar tool to add your text and then you can change to colour of your text using the colour swatches at the bottom of the tool bar and if
you want to change the width and height of the text , highlight over it and click ‘window’ at the top of the screen and go to ‘ character’. Adapt
it to how you’d like it to look and then carry on adding your text. For puff promotion, repeat the steps of adding a shape then text on top. For
puff promotion, you do not want it to look to text heavy, so make sure you keep it concise.
Step by Step ( DPS)
For the double page spread you will need to open up InDesign.
You will need to repeat the steps like you would do for a front cover by creating the canvas to the size you would like and adding
you ruler lines. You can move them if you don’t like where they have been placed. Also changed the background to how you’d
like it . Like you would fro your front cover , you should add your masthead but not the strapline. On your front cover, you can
copy your masthead layers ( select the layer and click ‘duplicate layer) and drag it to your double page. If you want to add a
border then use the shape tool and make the shape to the size you would like and place it. At the bottom, you need to add
your page number, date issue and preferably your logo. To do this, use the text tool information.
On your double page, you need to add your headline and make it stand out, it would be best to adapt the text, so going to
windows and then character again is an example. Now that the basics are un place, the next thing to add would be your
image(s). Repeat the same again like you would for your front cover by going to ‘file’ and the ‘place. You can edit your picture
as you wish and move it to where you had planned it to go. Once everything is in place, you can now add your text for . The first
bit of the article that could be added is a quote. The reason is because if you need to have text going around it you know where
and when to use the pen tool. By adding your quote, the stand verse is the next text to add. When adding your stand verse, you
need to create a drop capital so all you need to do is to create a text box and type the first letter of the first word you are going
to use. Then you get the pen tool form the side bar (15th down) and click around some of the sides of your letter and then carry
on making a text box where you want your stand verse to go. After that type all your text for that paragraph. The rest of your
article can be added and if you need to, use pen tool in case you need to type around a quote or an image , or both. Lastly what
you can do is add caption to your photo(s) and then your double page is complete.

This magazine will have a

Target Audience: Socio-Economic Needs and Spending Power
• Socio-Economic Needs: is the
social science that studies how
economic activity affects and is
shaped by social processes. In
general it analyses how societies
progress, stagnate, or regress
because of their local or regional
economy, or the global economy.
• Spending power: With my target
audience they will tend to spend
their money on a magazine as long
as there is something for them in
it. For example by having a free gift
that is of good quality , this will get
more people aware of the
magazine as long as their is a gift
and will spend their money on the
magazine.
For my magazine I have considered having a similar audience but
between the ages of 15 to 18. The reason for this is that it will be
affordable for students to buy ,also it will also hold appropriate
content for that age group. It will also be easier for me to write up
,as I can associate with what other girls would like in their
magazine.
Font styles
I found these style of font by
using a website called
“DaFont”. The reason why I
like these font is because they
are clean and cut. Nether
reason why I like these font is
because, they are all different
but still hold the same
meaning in this cause “pop
galaxy” and “Disco”, the joint
reason is pop music.

Final font styles
I have chosen to use this font
style because it a mixture of
pop art with a graffiti texture. I
like this because it makes the
heading stand out if it was
surrounded by other
magazines . This type of font is
similar to my magazine of
inspiration as it has a clean cut
finish and is bold so it stands
out.
I have chosen this font
because it is clean and cut
which will be appropriate for
my target audiences. Also it is
a form of bubble writing with
is easy to construct. This type
of font is different as the font
is a lot slimier than chunky .

Form and style of magazine
For my magazine I want to use consistent house styles through out my magazine,
that includes the colors and font style as well. I have also considered adding in a
logo but not to sure if it would go well with the rest of the magazine especially the
front cover. I will also be placing page numbers at the bottom of pages, and maybe
on the front as well next to the cover lines. I want my magazine to appeal to my
target audiences which will be in-between the ages of 15 and 18. So I will consider
adding pictures of celebrities and interviews into my magazine.

Colour that I

House style
For my magazine I have consider the colours of baby pink, white, baby
blue and yellow . The reason why I have chosen these colours is
because they are bold and stand out, they are colours that will catch
peoples attention when placed on a shelve next to other magazines
.The social media that I have chosen are Facebook, twitter and spotify.
Theses are all social medias that are used on a day to day bases , which
will help promote the magazine and get more people aware of it.

Draft interview (For DPS)
1. Hello Melody how are you today?
2. I’m very good bit nervous but I’m good
3. Aw don’t be so what inspired you to become a singer?
4. Thanks well I have always love sing ever since I was little. I didn’t have many friends When I started school so in year four I joined the school choir and ,continued it when I went to secondary school so you
could say my school life really.
5. Whoa that a long time was there any obstacles that came your way, before you became famous ?
6. Yes there where many. The main reasons was people making fun of me ,saying I can’t sing or just making fun of me trying to get me to sing as well . At the time I was very shy and only liked singing in big
groups never solo, so it made me very self-conscious about my ability to sing.
7. What helped you to over come those fears?
8. Well I’d say I haven’t over come them completely but I did faces my fears by auditions for solo’s in my choir, which was terrifying. But many people came up to me and said I had a really good voice, and asked
for help on certain harmonies, so you could say I faced my fears. But also when I was in primary school my friends encouraged me to sing along with them so they also helped me to faces my fears.
9. Who is your biggest inspiration in the music industry dead or alive?
10. Gosh there so many to choose from. Okay my inspiration in the music industry at the moment would have to be Jessie J, I love all her songs especially “who’s laughing now “ as it definitely reflects the type of
life I had when growing up. My other biggest inspiration has got to be the “king of rock” Mr. Elvis Presley just because I have grown up with his songs due to my parents being huge Elvis fans, so yeah there my
biggest inspirations.
11. Right here the big question if you weren’t a music artist what would you be and why?
12. Well originally I wanted to be a photographer so I could get close to celebrities , never thought I would turn out to be one . The other thing I would have like to do was probably be a You Tuber just because it
looks like so much fun and getting to meet new people. But I really didn't’t have a clue what I wanted to do when I was younger, but I don’t regret the path that I has been given to me.
13. What types of things would you have done if you became a photographer or you tuber?
14. Umm I would have taken photos of family events such as parties, wedding, or would have worked on a fashion shoot. If I became a you tuber I would have done impressions and song covers with some of my
friends so I wouldn’t feel to nervous about sing on my own
15. So I’m sure all your fans will want to know when you are going on tour?
16. I’m going on tour around Christmas time not sure on dates yet, but I’ll be going to London, Liverpool , bath and Brighton. Then later on in the new year I will be going to new york, Florida and some other
destinations that are still being confirmed by my manager Amy .
17. Now celebrities in todays world have names for there fan base what are your fans called?
18. Oh umm I haven’t given it much thought really if I did have to give my fan base a name I would call them the “sailor fairies”. Reason why I would call them that is because when I was growing up my two
favorite anime where “sailor moon” and “fairy tail’ so I combined the two and got “ sailor fairy”. I us this name for a lot of things and it just something that reminds me of my childhood, so that what my fans
would be called.
19. Last question many people will want to know manly men are you single or taken if so who the lucky guy?
20. Oh my that a very difficult question to answer *blush* umm I would say I am technical single at the moment but there is someone in my life I care for greatly, but with our lifestyle we don’t see each other
much. I just want to focus on my work and the things I love before working on my love life, so yes I am still single. I also have the support of my adoring fans and I just want to make them happy so work first
relationships later.
Well thank you for answering my questions Melody I hope everything goes well with your career and I hope to interview you again. Please everyone goes to this amazing women’s concerts and show your support, I’ll
be back next week with another interview with the stars. Bye now.
Thank you for having me yes I do hope everything goes with my career and I look forward to future interviews with you, and seeing all your lovely readers at my concert . Bye
Magazine Final idea – photo shoot
Project description Unit 13 is all bout how the different form of the media control what people think or what
they might buy . So for unit 13 we researched different types of magazine so for example I
researched about “Top of the Pops” and “ Billboard” magazine and see why they are so
appealing to the target audiences they are target too . By taking in this research it helped
me to construct my own magazine that will help appeal to my own audiences.
Project ( reasons behind the title ) The masthead of my magazine will be called “Disco”. The word “Disco” connotes that my magazine
will have lots of music gossip and may other things such as concert tickets prizes and many more.
Photographer? My photographer will be some people from my photography class as I’m going to be unable to take
photos as I will be the model. Some people I have considered is Emily and William to take my
photos. I will get them to take photos of all different angles so then at the end I can consider which
ones will look best on my magazine. I want to try and use natural lighting and if it not working out I
will use some lighting in the photography studio . If there is any effect that is not working I will try
and edit it with different filters such as invert and exposure to make the photos even better than
they where before.
Casting? Well for my magazine I decided to have me as the artist on the front cover and DPS. The reason why I have chosen
myself for this role is because there aren't any girls in my class for a start , and I want my magazine to be for the
female population. Some people have said to me if I have the right hair style and clothing I sometimes look like
Zoë sugg or some other artists.
Model requirements? Since my model will be me I need to focused on my appearances by having natural make-up
that is noticeable ,but also where cloths that is appropriate for my target audience and the
genre of music as well. I also need to try different positions while on the shoot and put myself
out of my comfort zone in order to be like the artist I’m trying to portray.
Wardrobe and look ? For my magazine my model needs to wear a nice skirt or even comfy jeans or trousers. Also a
smart collar shirt or even a nice red top, also comfy shoes such as ankle boots or trainers . My
source of inspiration is zoella and other music artists that wear similar clothing.
Hair & make-up? For the hair I’m going to do some shots with hair down surrounding the faces and to the side. Also I will
be having the hair up in a ponytail maybe to the side or on top of the head. For the make-up I will have a
natural look for some shots and the others will be some crazy make-up like bright color that go well
together. My inspiration will come from the “Top of the Pops” celebrates like zoella and other females
who have started in this magazine.
Where & when ? The photo shoot will either take places here at school or out side away from school for different shots.
Place in school will be in the photography studio the music department and the main hall. Outside of
school will probably be shots by a pond or lake over the bridge and some other ideas as well. These will
be taken sometime during the day and some at night as well.
Safe Working Practices
Image risk assessment
Permissions:
Before taking the image I needed to gain the artists full
permission to be photographed and for the image to be
published both online and print media. I found that the
best way to gain permission was to send an email to the
artist describing what they have to wear, the location and
time of the shoot. I also attached a permission form which
they had to sign and date and send back. By gaining
permission through this method the magazine has
declared proof of a signed document, this means that if
there are any future legal difficulties it would not be the
magazine at fault.
Area assessment:
When scouting the location for the images several area
checks had to take place. This risk assessment had to be
conducted to guarantee both the artist and the people
who are taking the images are safe. Areas that should be
looked at are possible hazards such as uneven ground
levels, running water, heights and weather conditions.
Also the area need to be suitable and appropriate for
artist and what we are trying to represent in our photos.
When ever taking or editing images for the front cover and DPS I had to take into
consideration the risk assessment. This meant that I had to look at all the individual
of “safe working practices” and how they could affect the final results.
Evidence of a permission letter
that was sent and signed by the
artist.

Profit and Loss breakdown
To have 15,000 copies of the
magazine it would costMy magazine will range between the prices of two
to three pounds per magazine. By having this
prices range most people would most likely buy a
magazine that is 2.99 so there is a 1p difference .
The amount that would be sold would be around
the number of 9,000 copies which will have a loss
of 6,000 copies not being sold. If all the copies
were sold for £3 would be £45,000 in profit. But by
taking away the amount of copies that have not
been sold would be £27,000 profit and £18,000
loss. But we also need to take away the printing
cost of all the copies would leave a £21,407.036
loss as not all the copies were sold which would
leave the company in debt until the next sale see
better improvement.
Facebook marketing for magazine
would class as entertainment and
would cost £3.20 (CPM) or 13p
(CPC)
Equipment cost all together
would come to £2,973.89.
The staffs yearly salary for one
year would cost £337,300. If you
add the two prices together you
get a loss of £ 340,273.89
Advertising revenue
would have a total of
£114,220.
The amount of
magazines that would
be sold in a year
would be work out
like this 2 week=1
magazine
One month = 2
magazines
One year =24
magazines
If the magazine was
sold for £2.99 in a
month you would
gain a profit of £5.98
and after a year you
would gain a profit of
£71.76.
Overall profit and loss
Advertising revenue: £114,220
Cost of selling magazines: £3.00 x 9,000 = 27,000
Subscription sale: You get 24 magazines which should be £72.00 however I am going to give them a
subscription service for a year for £60.00
TOTAL PROFIT – 285,500
Equipment and cost – £2,973.89
Staff and cost – £337,300
Printing – £7,097.99
Marketing - £3.20
TOTAL LOSS – 347,375.08
ALL Together there would be a total loss of -£61,875.08
Ethical & legal Issues
From this I recognize that all complaints are handled by a regulator body as the
screenshot explains how all are switched to IPSO that now handle all complaints .
IPSO
• What is IPSO?:
The Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) is the independent regulator for the
newspaper and magazine industry in the UK. We hold newspapers and magazines to
account for their actions, protect individual rights, uphold high standards of journalism and
help to maintain freedom of expression for the press.
• What does IPSO do?:
The IPSO make sure that all members that are involved in some form of media follow the
editors code. The IPSO main job is to investigate the complaints that have been made and
that may break the editors code as well. The IPSO can change or correct any work that may
break the editors code. The IPSO can also investigate the standards that are failing and
they can fine publishers up to £1 million they also operate a 24 hour anti-harassment
advice line. The IPSO can also provide advice for editor and journalists, they also provide
training and guidance for journalists so they can uphold the highest possible standards.
Link :https://www.ipso.co.uk/IPSO/cop.html
Role of Relevant Regulatory Bodies
The editor’s code is a set of rules that newspaper and magazine
industry members have agreed to accept. It sets the standards that
newspapers and magazines can be held to account by IPSO and is part
of the contract between IPSO and the newspapers and magazines it
regulates.
IPSO Continuation
• Accuracy:
The press have to follow the following things they must take care
when not to publish inaccurate or misleading information that is not
supported by the text. If there is misleading text they must be
corrected followed by an apology when re-published. Fair
opportunity to reply to significant inaccuracies should be given when
reasonably called for. The press must distinguish clearly between
comments and facts. A publication must be reported accurately with
the outcome of an action for defamation to be a party, unless an
agreed settlement states .
• Privacy:
Everyone has the right to respect his/her privacy and the family life.
The editor will b expected to justify intrusion into any individual’s
private life without consent. It is also unacceptable to have
photographs of the individual without their permission in a public or
private place.
• Harassment:
Journalist must not engage in intimidation, harassment or persistent
pursuit. There must not be any persist in questions , calls, pursuing or
photographing individuals when not given permission. When they are
asked to identify themselves they must and say who they represent.
The editor must insure these principles are followed and observe
those who are working for them and take care not to use non-
compliant material form other sources.
My magazine will follow all the following principles as we want to
respect the public and not to anything with out there consent to have
their information in the magazine.

ditors-code-of-practice/
Ethical & legal Issues
Ethical and legal issues means a problem or situation that requires a
person or organization, to choose between alternatives that must be
evaluated as right or wrong.
Ethical & legal Issues
In the magazine top of the pops the stereotypical audiences are
girls between the ages of 12-15, these type of people are
represented by there website as they illustrate girls singing and
playing guitar as they want to be famous one day when they
grow-up. Also else where in the magazine they have a whole
page dedicated to there readers , where they show they with
there magazines or using the free gift that came with it, there
girls in the photos look no older than 12 and it has there name
,age and reason why they like the magazine so much under their
photo.
Copyright and IP
Copyright is legal right that protects the use of your work once your
idea has been physically expressed. The current copyright legislation in
the UK is the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. IP is Intellectual
property refers to creations of the mind, such as inventions; literary
and artistic works; designs; and symbols, names and images used in
commerce.
This links to my magazine as the company of the magazine will have
legal right to the magazine and logos that could be used. So no one can
take right with out the companies consent.
Watermark
Originally a watermark is a more or less transparent image or text that
has been applied to a piece of paper, another image to either protect
the original image, or to make it harder to copy the item e.g. money
watermarks or stamp watermarks
This links to my magazine as the images that will be used will have been
taken by myself so I have the right to gain money if people in other
industries want to use my images.
https://www.visualwatermark.com/buy/
Data Protection Act 1988
The Data Protection Act controls how your personal information is used
by organisations, businesses or the government. They must make sure
the information is: used fairly and lawfully. used for limited, specifically
stated purposes.
This links to my magazine as the information is used fairly and is
limited for the specific purpose the magazine is aimed at.

Editors Code of Practice
It is the first revision of the Code since, in a landmark move fulfilling
another Leveson recommendation, independent lay members joined
the Editors' Code of Practice Committee, and the chair and chief
executive of the Independent Press Standards Organisation became full
members

interview & Survey monkey
Interview:
1. What do you think I can do to improve my pitch?
2. Was my magazine cover appealing?
3. What could I do to improve my chosen magazine cover?
4. Did I cover everything from the mark scheme?
5. Were my proposals detailed enough?
6. What would you change about my front cover?
For the next three slides they will consisted of question and feedback on my pitch presentation. This will help me make
any changes that are needed, and find out which areas I have done well to a high standard.

Survey Monkey
From my feedback I have learned
that I need to add the spending
power slide and socio-economic
needs. Also when I was presenting I
have to not read my script word by
word as it makes me look stiff when
presenting.
Question one Question two
From my results I learned that my
magazines cover was very appealing , as
it was easy to tell who the inspiration
was . It also had a good consistent
colour scheme , which made it
appealing.
Survey Monkey
When it come to improving my
magazine , I need to make my
strapline smaller as it looks out of
places on the front cover. I also need
a bit more cover lines, but I think
there is enough so I really need to
focus on the strapline.
Question three Question four
When it come to making sure
everything was covered on the
mark scheme , there was a few
errors . But the majority of the
mark scheme was all covered in
my pitch.
Survey Monkey
From my feedback I learned that
my proposals had a lot of detail ,
which helped make my pitch
seem more well planed and
cover the topic.
Question five Question six
For my front cover things that could do
with a few changes is by making the
main image brighter as it is the main
focus of the magazine.

Mind map Magazine ideas Color scheme Types of images frequency Brand Identity Target audiences Masthead name ideas Strapline ideas Snap: it quick and sharp , this magazine will get right to the point and not mess you around . It also an easy name to remember not long like other magazine titles. Disco: This connotes the theme of pop as this music would have been heard at a disco. It is also a unique way to call a magazine this as not many magazines go by this name. Red, white and baby pink Pink, purple and white White, baby blue and pink Once every two weeks Famous celebrities Music charts Popular clothing 15 to 18 year olds. Because the main majority of people who read pop magazines are around this age Pop Galaxy: This connotes the senses of mystery ,as pop music is a way of escape from reality. The word Galaxy is another form of escape as it so big and mysterious just like pop music. “ music is life” “ life is a stage” “ The rhythm is in you” Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Key: Disco magazine Pop galaxy mag Snap magazine Both magazine
  • 5. Mood board conclusions I have chosen these images because my magazine will not only contain the latest music, but also the latest fashion trends and what works well together. I have also added social media site because if my magazine was made in the industry to make the magazine more popular they would be able to follow them magazine online.
  • 6. Magazine of inspiration Masthead: By using clean and cut colors and font, this make the magazine look more mature and grown up, not for people under the age of 20. This type of font is used consistently through out the magazine. This has inspired me as I want my magazine to seem professional , also I want it to catch the eyes of the young adults of today . Main Image: By the use of the front cover it clearly illustrates, that the picture of Katy Perry is the main focus of this issue ,of Billboard magazine. Katy Perry is an musical artist sensation who is loved and adored by many. This has inspired me to make sure my model of the magazine really stands out form the crowed . This can be achieve by using different camera angles to help connect the audiences with the magazine. Cover lines: May consider adding cover lines so the reader will know what else is to come up in the magazine. Puff promotion: Will think about adding in a competition and having Puff around certain bits of writing. Main Image: May use a similar style of clothing, but will experiment with different camera angles
  • 7. Double page of inspiration This double page spread use differentiated questions and answers. This is used effectively as we can see what type of questions where asked, for the said celebrate to come up with that answer. It is also an easy layout for the reader to understand and read . This is inspirational to me as it is another way to help style the double page . This make the page more interesting to read and a lot more fun then having blocks of writing to read through Main image: Theses images have been used for the interview with pixie Lott. This take on the effect of a grown up state of mind which could imply, her seriousness that is take in the music industry. This has inspired me to use a similar format with my images, by using a different range of head shots. This will enable for the audiences to interact with the image if there is direct contact e.g. eye contact. Second image: These pictures have been chosen as each person may have a connection to pixie. They may work with her in the industry, and are being interviewed to find out who is the real pixie Lott. This has also inspired me to use different images by not just using the same artist in different angle shouts . This magazine has page numbers, so I will consider using page numbers in my own magazine.
  • 8. Summary of ideas (Top of the Pops) Disco • Genre: My magazine will be aimed at people between the ages of 15-18 , it will also be aimed at the female gender. The reason why I have chosen this age and gender, is because by doing previous research the female audience would be more attracted to my type of magazine. • Colors: When it come to the subject of color for my magazine I have experimented with a lot of colors. These colors were baby pink & blue, white ,red and black. But the colors that stood out the most from all the rest was baby pink & blue and white as they all work well together and don’t overwhelm the front cover with powerful colors. These colors will help complement the image of the subject as it will make them stand out more and catch the readers attention. • Price: From previous research I have discovered that popular girl magazines such as the “Shout” are around the price range of three pound or less. So I will be ranging my magazine to be between the prices of two to three pounds. As this is less expensive and will make the reader want to buy this magazine over a five to six pounds magazine. • Size of magazine if it was made: My magazine if it was made would be printed on A4 sheets, as it is easier to construct into a booklet form. Whereas is it was A3 it would be more difficult to construct, it may hold more information on each page but in the long run it will use up less time to use A4 sheets of paper.
  • 9. Proposal ( Disco magazine) Format The format of what I am going to create is a magazine. I am going to create a new pop magazine in the form of a front cover, double page spread as part of marketing project for Disco magazine. Working title My working title for my magazine is Disco . The font style interlinks with the pop theme ,and is clean cut so it is easy to read. The color scheme of the title will be in purple or maybe black and white I haven't decided yet. The title will be placed on the left hand side of the magazine. Genre The Genre of music is pop music and will be aimed at the younger generation. Content My magazine will hold content on artist , fashion ,song lyrics and interviews along with photos . The magazine will also feature new artist in the industry and other well known artist such as Katy Perry. Style or approach The denotation of the colour scheme for the magazine front cover will be baby pink, purple and white. I chose to have the colour baby pink as the background because many pop magazine have the colour scheme of baby pink not as the background but in another aspect of the magazine. I also chose the colour purple and white because it will help the writing stand out from the pink background with a white box and purple writing. Audiences My magazine will be aimed at young female teenagers between the ages of 15 and 18. I have chosen this age range because music is all around and these are the ages they begin to have a particular taste of music. Length The magazine will be printed on A4 as this will be easy to constrict if it was made in production. My magazine will have on average 40 pages or less depending on how much content can be found and constructed together. Frequency My magazine will be released every fortnight as it will hold more content and bring exclusive gossip, that will leave you waiting until the next issue is released.
  • 10. Step by Step (Front cover) Open up Photoshop and set up a blank canvas set to the size of A4. You are then going to click on the ruler tool (Ctrl+R) so that everything on your canvas will be in line and in place. To hide the ruler lines you press(Ctrl + H). First thing to do is change the colour of your background on the canvas, it best to change the background to the colour that you have suggested in your mind map. To change the colour look to the side bar for a box with the colours going from dark to light ( or just the 12th box down the side bar). Then change the colour by using the coloured boxes at the bottom of the tool bar and then have the colour as you wish. Next you are going to want to put the most important conventions in first. An example of this masthead and barcode with the issue date, website address, small masthead logo and publisher logo. When adding your barcode you can insert an image of one by going to ‘file’ and the ‘place’. Then your going to click (Ctrl+T), you can change the shape and size of the image , then move it to the desirable position. Above or to the side of the barcode you can insert text to add your additional information by clicking the ‘T’ on the side bar in Photoshop. Now that you’ve done that you are going to place your masthead and strapline. What you need to do for this part is add the shapes of the masthead and strapline by clicking on the solid square on the tool bar ( 18th box down) and draw to the size you want. Then you add the magazine name and text and also the strapline. If you ever want to move this around all together and keep everything in the same place, highlight the layers on the far right , right click and click ‘ link layer’. Depending on your logo, you can add text effects by right clicking on the text layer and go to ‘blending option’. The next convention that you should add next is the photo you want on your front cover. If you go to ‘file’ and then ‘ place’ you can add an image that you have taken for your front cover. To remove the background of that image have the said image selected and find the quick selection tool on the tool bar (4th down), then select the background you want to get rid of and make sure you don’t delete parts of the picture you need to keep. To neaten the edges click on the eraser ( 13th down) and select the airbrush tool and to do this look in the top left of the screen at the eraser and find it on the drop down. Move the image around on the page and change the shape and size to how you want it. If you want to add an effect you can either go on the layer and to ‘ blending option’ again or at the top go to filter and edit to how you want the picture to look. To make it look like a magazine, you need to add a strapline, anchorge text, puff promotion, quote and cover stories. Use the text icon in the bar tool to add your text and then you can change to colour of your text using the colour swatches at the bottom of the tool bar and if you want to change the width and height of the text , highlight over it and click ‘window’ at the top of the screen and go to ‘ character’. Adapt it to how you’d like it to look and then carry on adding your text. For puff promotion, repeat the steps of adding a shape then text on top. For puff promotion, you do not want it to look to text heavy, so make sure you keep it concise.
  • 11. Step by Step ( DPS) For the double page spread you will need to open up InDesign. You will need to repeat the steps like you would do for a front cover by creating the canvas to the size you would like and adding you ruler lines. You can move them if you don’t like where they have been placed. Also changed the background to how you’d like it . Like you would fro your front cover , you should add your masthead but not the strapline. On your front cover, you can copy your masthead layers ( select the layer and click ‘duplicate layer) and drag it to your double page. If you want to add a border then use the shape tool and make the shape to the size you would like and place it. At the bottom, you need to add your page number, date issue and preferably your logo. To do this, use the text tool information. On your double page, you need to add your headline and make it stand out, it would be best to adapt the text, so going to windows and then character again is an example. Now that the basics are un place, the next thing to add would be your image(s). Repeat the same again like you would for your front cover by going to ‘file’ and the ‘place. You can edit your picture as you wish and move it to where you had planned it to go. Once everything is in place, you can now add your text for . The first bit of the article that could be added is a quote. The reason is because if you need to have text going around it you know where and when to use the pen tool. By adding your quote, the stand verse is the next text to add. When adding your stand verse, you need to create a drop capital so all you need to do is to create a text box and type the first letter of the first word you are going to use. Then you get the pen tool form the side bar (15th down) and click around some of the sides of your letter and then carry on making a text box where you want your stand verse to go. After that type all your text for that paragraph. The rest of your article can be added and if you need to, use pen tool in case you need to type around a quote or an image , or both. Lastly what you can do is add caption to your photo(s) and then your double page is complete.

  • 13. Target Audience: Socio-Economic Needs and Spending Power • Socio-Economic Needs: is the social science that studies how economic activity affects and is shaped by social processes. In general it analyses how societies progress, stagnate, or regress because of their local or regional economy, or the global economy. • Spending power: With my target audience they will tend to spend their money on a magazine as long as there is something for them in it. For example by having a free gift that is of good quality , this will get more people aware of the magazine as long as their is a gift and will spend their money on the magazine. For my magazine I have considered having a similar audience but between the ages of 15 to 18. The reason for this is that it will be affordable for students to buy ,also it will also hold appropriate content for that age group. It will also be easier for me to write up ,as I can associate with what other girls would like in their magazine.
  • 14. Font styles I found these style of font by using a website called “DaFont”. The reason why I like these font is because they are clean and cut. Nether reason why I like these font is because, they are all different but still hold the same meaning in this cause “pop galaxy” and “Disco”, the joint reason is pop music. http://www.dafont.com/the-inbox- st.font?text=pop+galaxy http://www.dafont.com/borg.f ont?text=pop+galaxy http://www.dafont.com/move- on.font?text=pop+galaxy http://www.dafont.com/po nymaker.font?text=Disco http://www.dafont.com/slabs.f ont?text=Disco http://www.dafont.com/li on-king.font?text=Disco
  • 15. Final font styles I have chosen to use this font style because it a mixture of pop art with a graffiti texture. I like this because it makes the heading stand out if it was surrounded by other magazines . This type of font is similar to my magazine of inspiration as it has a clean cut finish and is bold so it stands out. I have chosen this font because it is clean and cut which will be appropriate for my target audiences. Also it is a form of bubble writing with is easy to construct. This type of font is different as the font is a lot slimier than chunky . Magazine inspiration font style
  • 16. Form and style of magazine For my magazine I want to use consistent house styles through out my magazine, that includes the colors and font style as well. I have also considered adding in a logo but not to sure if it would go well with the rest of the magazine especially the front cover. I will also be placing page numbers at the bottom of pages, and maybe on the front as well next to the cover lines. I want my magazine to appeal to my target audiences which will be in-between the ages of 15 and 18. So I will consider adding pictures of celebrities and interviews into my magazine. Colour that I will be using for the background of my magazine Colour that I will be using around the font on my magazine. Colour that I will be using for the font of the magazine.
  • 17. House style For my magazine I have consider the colours of baby pink, white, baby blue and yellow . The reason why I have chosen these colours is because they are bold and stand out, they are colours that will catch peoples attention when placed on a shelve next to other magazines .The social media that I have chosen are Facebook, twitter and spotify. Theses are all social medias that are used on a day to day bases , which will help promote the magazine and get more people aware of it. Color Samples

  • 22. Draft interview (For DPS) 1. Hello Melody how are you today? 2. I’m very good bit nervous but I’m good 3. Aw don’t be so what inspired you to become a singer? 4. Thanks well I have always love sing ever since I was little. I didn’t have many friends When I started school so in year four I joined the school choir and ,continued it when I went to secondary school so you could say my school life really. 5. Whoa that a long time was there any obstacles that came your way, before you became famous ? 6. Yes there where many. The main reasons was people making fun of me ,saying I can’t sing or just making fun of me trying to get me to sing as well . At the time I was very shy and only liked singing in big groups never solo, so it made me very self-conscious about my ability to sing. 7. What helped you to over come those fears? 8. Well I’d say I haven’t over come them completely but I did faces my fears by auditions for solo’s in my choir, which was terrifying. But many people came up to me and said I had a really good voice, and asked for help on certain harmonies, so you could say I faced my fears. But also when I was in primary school my friends encouraged me to sing along with them so they also helped me to faces my fears. 9. Who is your biggest inspiration in the music industry dead or alive? 10. Gosh there so many to choose from. Okay my inspiration in the music industry at the moment would have to be Jessie J, I love all her songs especially “who’s laughing now “ as it definitely reflects the type of life I had when growing up. My other biggest inspiration has got to be the “king of rock” Mr. Elvis Presley just because I have grown up with his songs due to my parents being huge Elvis fans, so yeah there my biggest inspirations. 11. Right here the big question if you weren’t a music artist what would you be and why? 12. Well originally I wanted to be a photographer so I could get close to celebrities , never thought I would turn out to be one . The other thing I would have like to do was probably be a You Tuber just because it looks like so much fun and getting to meet new people. If I became a you tuber I would have done impressions and song covers with some of my friends so I wouldn’t feel to nervous about sing on my own 15. So I’m sure all your fans will want to know when you are going on tour? 16. I’m going on tour around Christmas time not sure on dates yet, but I’ll be going to London, Liverpool , bath and Brighton. Then later on in the new year I will be going to new york, Florida and some other destinations that are still being confirmed by my manager Amy . 17. Now celebrities in todays world have names for there fan base what are your fans called? 18. Oh umm I haven’t given it much thought really if I did have to give my fan base a name I would call them the “sailor fairies”. Reason why I would call them that is because when I was growing up my two favorite anime where “sailor moon” and “fairy tail’ so I combined the two and got “ sailor fairy”. I us this name for a lot of things and it just something that reminds me of my childhood, so that what my fans would be called. 19. Last question many people will want to know manly men are you single or taken if so who the lucky guy? 20. Oh my that a very difficult question to answer *blush* umm I would say I am technical single at the moment but there is someone in my life I care for greatly, but with our lifestyle we don’t see each other much. I just want to focus on my work and the things I love before working on my love life, so yes I am still single. I also have the support of my adoring fans and I just want to make them happy so work first relationships later. Well thank you for answering my questions Melody I hope everything goes well with your career and I hope to interview you again. Please everyone goes to this amazing women’s concerts and show your support, I’ll be back next week with another interview with the stars. Bye now. Thank you for having me yes I do hope everything goes with my career and I look forward to future interviews with you, and seeing all your lovely readers at my concert . Bye
  • 23. Magazine Final idea – photo shoot Project description Unit 13 is all bout how the different form of the media control what people think or what they might buy . So for unit 13 we researched different types of magazine so for example I researched about “Top of the Pops” and “ Billboard” magazine and see why they are so appealing to the target audiences they are target too . By taking in this research it helped me to construct my own magazine that will help appeal to my own audiences. Project ( reasons behind the title ) The masthead of my magazine will be called “Disco”. The word “Disco” connotes that my magazine will have lots of music gossip and may other things such as concert tickets prizes and many more. Photographer? My photographer will be some people from my photography class as I’m going to be unable to take photos as I will be the model. Some people I have considered is Emily and William to take my photos. I will get them to take photos of all different angles so then at the end I can consider which ones will look best on my magazine. I want to try and use natural lighting and if it not working out I will use some lighting in the photography studio . If there is any effect that is not working I will try and edit it with different filters such as invert and exposure to make the photos even better than they where before. Casting? Well for my magazine I decided to have me as the artist on the front cover and DPS. The reason why I have chosen myself for this role is because there aren't any girls in my class for a start , and I want my magazine to be for the female population. Some people have said to me if I have the right hair style and clothing I sometimes look like Zoë sugg or some other artists. Model requirements? Since my model will be me I need to focused on my appearances by having natural make-up that is noticeable ,but also where cloths that is appropriate for my target audience and the genre of music as well. I also need to try different positions while on the shoot and put myself out of my comfort zone in order to be like the artist I’m trying to portray. Wardrobe and look ? For my magazine my model needs to wear a nice skirt or even comfy jeans or trousers. Also a smart collar shirt or even a nice red top, also comfy shoes such as ankle boots or trainers . My source of inspiration is zoella and other music artists that wear similar clothing. Hair & make-up? For the hair I’m going to do some shots with hair down surrounding the faces and to the side. Also I will be having the hair up in a ponytail maybe to the side or on top of the head. For the make-up I will have a natural look for some shots and the others will be some crazy make-up like bright color that go well together. My inspiration will come from the “Top of the Pops” celebrates like zoella and other females who have started in this magazine. Where & when ? The photo shoot will either take places here at school or out side away from school for different shots. Place in school will be in the photography studio the music department and the main hall. Outside of school will probably be shots by a pond or lake over the bridge and some other ideas as well. These will be taken sometime during the day and some at night as well.
  • 24. Safe Working Practices Image risk assessment Permissions: Before taking the image I needed to gain the artists full permission to be photographed and for the image to be published both online and print media. I found that the best way to gain permission was to send an email to the artist describing what they have to wear, the location and time of the shoot. I also attached a permission form which they had to sign and date and send back. By gaining permission through this method the magazine has declared proof of a signed document, this means that if there are any future legal difficulties it would not be the magazine at fault. Area assessment: When scouting the location for the images several area checks had to take place. This risk assessment had to be conducted to guarantee both the artist and the people who are taking the images are safe. Areas that should be looked at are possible hazards such as uneven ground levels, running water, heights and weather conditions. Also the area need to be suitable and appropriate for artist and what we are trying to represent in our photos. When ever taking or editing images for the front cover and DPS I had to take into consideration the risk assessment. This meant that I had to look at all the individual of “safe working practices” and how they could affect the final results. Evidence of a permission letter that was sent and signed by the artist.

  • 28. Profit and Loss breakdown To have 15,000 copies of the magazine it would costMy magazine will range between the prices of two to three pounds per magazine. By having this prices range most people would most likely buy a magazine that is 2.99 so there is a 1p difference . The amount that would be sold would be around the number of 9,000 copies which will have a loss of 6,000 copies not being sold. If all the copies were sold for £3 would be £45,000 in profit. But by taking away the amount of copies that have not been sold would be £27,000 profit and £18,000 loss. But we also need to take away the printing cost of all the copies would leave a £21,407.036 loss as not all the copies were sold which would leave the company in debt until the next sale see better improvement.
