Working Title:
What is it called? This can change if you think of something better later
Audience:
Who is your audience? Be very detailed; age, gender, social status, psychographic etc. Use the
Audience Classifications PowerPoint on Blackboard to help you develop this section.
Why would your project appeal to this person? Discuss each audience element in relation to
content (why would your product appeal to the age group? Why would your product appeal to the
gender? Etc.)
Since I have decided that my production will be print. My target age group will be from 10-35. The
reason why my age group has such a wide age range is due to the fact that general interest of
make-up/beauty has a vast target audience and therefore has to appeal to all, therefore I have to
ensure my colour schemes/images/text, is suitable to all ages and is appropriate. I have also
decided that my target for gender is to appeal to all genders, as I feel within the modern times that
it is important to include all genders as many sexes have an equal interest in makeup/beauty. To
do this I will include both male and female models. The NRS social grade for my audience will
range from C2 (Skilled manual workers to A (High managerial, administer or professional) I
decided that the social grade of my audience would be aimed toward those who could afford
varying prices of product within my print product. My audience will not have any particular race. I
want my product to be inclusive for all ethnicities by using different models and make up brands to
suit anyone and any skin tone. The VALS for my psychographic, will include a ‘striver’ this
connotes that this particular audience type will be a motivator and aspiring to be as good as the
makeup artists within the magazine or to simply educate themselves. I also aim to appeal to the
‘Believer’ within VALS categories, the reason being that this audience types will believe in sharing
advice among all types of makeup fans/gurus, and of course enjoying a community of makeup
fanatics.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
Review your progress throughout the year- what skills and knowledge have you acquired?
How has the subjects you have studied this year informed your choice for this project?
What have you studied and how will it have a direct impact upon your project?
From the following year I have developed many skills to apply to my FMP. Some of these being my
organisational skills. This involved planning and researching many topics and rotations. I created
time schedules to stick to so that my work was efficient and on time. My communication skills have
also vastly improved throughout the year, for example sending emails to pupils/teachers to ask
questions directly or organise project shoots. I also verbal improved my communication among
both my peers, family members and also the college itself, I developed a professional vocabulary
to apply in all my conversations. I also improved my team work skills by creating a group project on
advert-game in a team. Throughout the year I have covered 4 rotations, the first being Print,
designing and development of a website and magazine cover and double page spread. Secondly a
short film this involved a visual aspect, animation and finally sound and of course editing. On the
third rotation was video game I developed skills on design and sound and animating a characters
on Photoshop. And finally my overall knowledge of the software to create these things have vastly
improved .i.e. Adobe, Photoshop, InDesign, Microsoft office which has prepared me for my final
major project.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
What is the concept for your project and what are you going to make?
What research will you need to conduct and how will it help you make your project/
My project concept for my FMP. Is to create a magazine/pamphlet containing an article, a double
page spread, and a front cover.
I hope to include tutorials on how to do apply makeup with a wide range of styles, varying from a
natural look to full faced makeup. I also hope to include a few articles from ‘different’ reviewers on
different make up brands by looking at shades for different skin types, prices, and other things. I

also hope to include a section of homemade remedies for skin care and also ‘superfoods’ to
enhance natural beauty. My target audience will be aimed at both genders due to that fact that
both males and females have an equal interest in makeup/beauty. The age range will be wide due
to the mass interest in makeup across all ages. I hope to target my product toward 10-30 year
olds. The inspiration for my product was from my own personal interest in makeup, I often watch
makeup, hair, beauty tutorial/reviews on YouTube. I wanted to adapt my own idea of this but on
print so that, all make up fanatics from beginners to professional can see my product as an almost
‘bible’ for makeup. I hope to add individuality by doing these reviews/tutorials by making it
something my audience can touch and feel (in print). For my actual piece I want have a colour
scheme of bright eye catching colours such as pink, blue, silver golds. As I feel these colours will
be most appropriate for the codes and conventions of a magazine. I will use a font that is big and
bold but does not take away from the content of my magazine and the images I will include. My
actually piece will have more image than text, due to the step by step beauty routine I have in
mind. I intend to use the college studio to shoot my products/images. I decided to do this because I
feel it was add professional looking images and it would be something you would find in a
magazine of my chosen genre. I will adapt the lighting for different images, For example if I use a
‘natural’ makeup look I will use a dimer, less harsh light to compliment the image and look, and
vice versa. I intend to use the DSLR canon camera, The reasoning for this is that I have
experience using this camera in previous projects. I also want to use a tripod for the majority of my
images, simply because it is easier to create images with a steady camera so I can focus on
getting the shot right. I might add visual affects during editing, such as graphics within my fonts
and among my images I will do this to improve the overall look of my piece, and ensuring my
audience don’t get bored or mundane.
I will market my production through various means, such as; the use of social media, Facebook
and Instagram etc. I will also use email to inform my audience.
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
How do you plan to evaluate the work? Reference conducting on-going evaluation and your final
self-reflection, analysing your work and its outcomes.
I intend evaluate my work by using peer feedback, this involves asking my peers on strengths and
weaknesses on my ongoing work. I will ask them weekly for advice so I can amend anything they
feel isn’t up to scratch. I also do a development post each week so that I can reflect on my week
and my work. I find this helpful because as it makes me realise what I need to edit and improve.

1 Initial Response +
Proposal
For my FMP I started
with talking about my
thoughts and feelings
about the initial brief
I downloaded the pro
forma talked about
my first ideas my
thoughts and feelings
for the brief
I did two mood boards
on images that I liked
and something I could
see in my own
production.
I did two mind maps
the second one I
expanded my
thoughts and potential
ideas I might want to
apply to my work.
I also analysed these
afterwards a
discussed pros and
cons from my ideas
I also researched
existing products
within the beauty and
makeup industry to
get to grips with
codes and
conventions involved
for this production
After completing this I
went on to write a
proposal, this
involved discussing
and talking about a
working title,
audience, the
rationale and I also
evaluated these after.
2 Product + Audience
Research
To start my Product
and Audience
research I started with
creating a
questionnaire on
SurveyMonkey.com
This helped me focus
my ideas a little more
on what I wanted to
do
After that I wrote up a
interview with more
specific questions to

ask my audience, this
had 5 questions.
Once I received the
answers from my
interview I analysed
both the survey
monkey answers and
my interviews on a
pro forma.
After that I went on to
further research on
existing products
such as makeup artist
magazine to learn the
codes and
conventions of that
particular genre of
print.
3 Production Experiments After completing my
audience research I
went on to production
experiments.
This involved me
creating a double
page spread and a
front cover.
To do this I went on
adobe Photoshop and
InDesign.
This helped me get to
grips with using the
software again and
develop my thoughts
even further.
I made sure I created
my DPS and front
cover on a different
topic than my final
production for
example I did a
cooking magazine
rather than a beauty
and makeup
magazine.
Once I had completed
these I went on to
take my own pictures
of products and a
model I did this so
that I could work out
what lighting and
other things that are
necessary for
photography.
After doing all my
experiments I went on
to analyse them, and
the pros and cons of
my experiment and

how they informed my
FMP.
4 Pre-Production and
Planning
After completing my
product experiments I
went on to planning
and pre-production.
This involved me
looking a style sheets.
The first style sheet
was on fonts. I went
on Dafont.com and
selected various fonts
that I felt suited my
genre of magazine.
After selected my
fonts I went on to
analyse each one,
with the pros and
cons.
The second style
sheet was on colour
schemes. I went on to
Adobe.colour.com
this helped me put
together colours I
liked together. I tried
to make as many as
possible so I had a lot
of choice when in
production.
After completing my
style sheets I looked
at existing double
page spreads in the
industry and analysed
them
After that I went on to
do layouts. This
involved making mock
up DPS and front
covers and using all
the style sheets to
inform my layouts. I
created 4 of them
Then went on to
contingency, health
and safety and
equipment list .
5 Production Taking images
Booking studio
Using models and
products.
6 Production Begin editing and
placing all images
together
Take more photos if
needed
