2. Audience - AGE
โ My fanzine will be aimed at an age group of 15-24 due to the
standard rating of the film franchise being a PG, however due
to the dated and โclassicโ effect for the film and the long
lifespan of the franchise a slightly older audience would be
expected. The original release of the 1954 film was given an X
rating. The rating of the film is important as that could limit the
intended audience of
โ All ratings info derived from the bbfc website
3. Audience - GENDER
โ Male- approximately 60% Female-approximately 40%
โ There is no data online of the gender split of Godzilla 1954 what I have
presented above is an estimate based on the franchise containing several
important female main characters. Shown in the 1954-Emiko (scientist);
Godzilla against mecha Godzilla-Akane (pilot of mecha Godzilla); Shin
Godzilla-Kayoko and hiromi( US-Japan diplomat, JSDF leader)
โ However it should be noted that my fanzine will attempt to be gender
neutral.

4. Audience โ
PSYCHOGRAPHIC
โ These two psychographics (whilst seemingly opposites) would fit my
target audience of โclassicGodzilla fanโ very well. For the mainstream
side of it, the they would be people who know the brand of Godzilla and
would watch the films for sheer entertainment value, whereas the
explorer demographic would focus on the more obscure and less popular
films and look into it with the themes solely due to the lack of popularity
and โretroโ stylings.

5. Audience โ
GEODEMOGRAPHIC
โ The fanzine would apply to anyone in any geodemographic due to the
fact that the fanzine itself would be cheap if not free and the content
of the magazine will not be exclusively targeted to a wealthier person
due to the fact that film in general is rarely targeted to a persons
wealth and wouldn't attempt to โbox someone outโ
โ My audience would most likely appeal to the ABC1 audience solely
due to the fact that the 1954 Godzilla is not a fast pasted action film
and is generally only available via collections and other paid means.
Economic status
6. Audience โ PRIMARY RESEARCH-
Survey โ I have created a survey on
survey monkey that would
help get an idea of what a
specific audience would look
for from my own content
Audience questions
๏ง From these two questions I
know that my audience is
predominately males that are
17 + .With this knowledge I
know where the rest of the
questions are coming from as
well as who I can tailor my
content towards. Including
more mature content and a
traditionally โmasculineโ
colour scheme.
7. Genre questions
โข The questions on this slide
were asked in order to
determine the popularity of the
genre of 1954 Godzilla, and
from the data we can see that
it is still popular. From this we
can determine that this
audience would be interested
in my planned fanzine so long
as it followed these two
parameters of classic monster
films. With this info I can appeal
to the readers need for
escapism and enjoyment from
the uses and gratifications
theory
8. Content questions
๏ง These questions were made in order to find out if the
given audience would be interested in the topic of my
fanzine (that being the originalGodzilla). From the
answers given would give the impression that there is
a strong interest in the original films (Shown by the
75% of people that are aware of the franchise and
would watch the original film) as well as looking at
them as a retrospective to the rest of the franchise. Ill
also know for my written to have a general mix of
personal and factual content but to mainly make it
feel personal this could be done by using direct
address and a first person tense in the article to give
a personal feel. And to appeal to the more factual
audience; include little fact buttons dotted here and
there in the content.
๏ง By having the knowledge that people want to learn
and experience the originals I will be able to appeal to
the information part of uses and gratifications theory
I order to satisfy the audience.
9. Design/Aesthetics questions
๏ง By asking these questions I was intending
to find out what my audience would find
most visually interesting for the images,
styling and layout of my fanzine. 87% of
people who answered had a positive
opinion of a retro style for a fanzine, this
would entail having mostly hand drawn
images that are scanned back in or images
that are filtered in order to give them a
retro effect. It is very clear to see that the
reader would prefer a fanzine in colour.
Whilst this would go against my original
idea, it could definitely be done with accent
colours that would appeal to a mostly male
audience i.e. red,blue,white and black
10. Other Audience Categories
โ Magazine readers-The general result is that people who read and buy
physical magazines are above the age of 25 which would be an issue for
the audience we were given as I would like to produce a physical version of
my fanzine as well as digital. However, for those who read digital
magazines the target age group of 16-24 is in the lead by 9% . In order to
cater to this audience ill be uploading a digital copy of my fanzine onto
issuu.com

Editor's Notes
Analyse your audience. Use info from the client and any other resources you can to build a picture of them.
Consider age, gender, socioeconomic status, geodemographics, psychographics and mainstream/niche.
There are a whole range of resources such as NRS, Acorn, YouGov, https://www.prolificnorth.co.uk/digital/featured/2016/11/ten-best-free-online-audience-insight-tools, your client and a host of psychographic profiles.
You can also consider some primary research in to your audience as well.
Find out as much as you can about the category you have chosen for this type of demographic. Who are they? What other products do they interact with? How much money do they have? What activities do they do? Are there any stereotypes linked with the group you have chosen? All this data needs to be sourced and referenced. Do not include your opinion or experiences- we need to exclusively use published data and research. Include screenshots/copy and paste and summarise the information. Go over as many slides as necessary for each section.
