TASK 1 Idea Generation and
Research
RESEARCH & IDEA
GENERATION
Select a song/track that you like [or don’t like!]
Generate three ideas for music videos employing styles,
techniques and conventions that we have looked at in
previous sessions. Explore how you could interpret the
song differently using different methods
You can add any extra info you think is relevant, images,
mind maps, etc
For quick mind maps you could use bubbl.us to generate
these
RESEARCH
Watch a selection of videos to get your ideas
started, make note of a minimum of 5 – add
extra slides, screenshot the video and in bullet
point note down info in terms of camera,
editing, art design, performance, etc and how
this might link to your production
• The camera shots are usually shot at the artists straight on
for a clear view and low angled shots focused on the artists
to make the artists appear larger, thus making them look
more dominant and superior in the video, which adds to the
drill aspect of the song within the video.
• Within the Blanco & Bis music video, they also use a slow-
motion ground shot at the feet of the artists for a few
seconds between the rapping so that it gave the motion and
speed of the video small break before building-up the
momentum in the music video to a speed that is
comparable to the songs tempo and rhythm.
•The editing for this video is quite supreme because the
amount of visual effects within this music video like the text
that drifts in and out of the frame with a tint of motion blur
to add realism when the text moves about in the video,

RESEA
RCH
The song Twix by Kwengface is a drill song which has a
traditionalistic setting for a music video because the video is shot
in the streets of London, where the majority of UK drill videos are
filmed. At the start of the music video, there is a slow moving high
up drone shot London and with the similar shard in the frame,
which was a useful shot for the video because not only does it
show an overview of London, it also makes the music video feel
more grand, which amplifies the atmosphere of the music video,
especially since it’s the intro and when someone see the drone
shot at the start, it makes them want to watch more of the music
video because of the aesthetically pleasing start of the video.
In the video, it depicts Kwengface with a Jason Voorhees mask on
while he dances and throws out hand gesture to the song. Masks
are common within drill videos because some artists want to stay
anonymous to the public so that they can add to the style of a drill
artist in the UK and/or they they’ve got in trouble with the law or
on probation so they can get away with being in these drill music
videos.
The editing of the scenes are fast switches between one another
and are on the beat which makes the speed of the video match the
speed of the song smoothly as it adds intensification and bulk into
the music video as a whole. Also, there is a lot of low shots of the
artist, which is a common camera angel in drill music videos,
which makes the artist appear bigger and more dominant in the
video. This shot is used to a great effect when we see Kwengface

Most drill videos include large groups of people dancing, raving, aggression,
substances and is usually in a street setting because that’s what the genre
of drill ascended from visually. However, there are some drill songs and
artist who put a slightly alternative twist on drill and the music videos to
make their music videos standout in the genre. A great example of this is
the SL music video for the song Tropical, which is filmed in Iceland at a
house near a glacier oppose to the traditional drill location of London.
Although the environment of the music video is not comparable to the
standard drill music video, it still includes similar clothes, styles and cars
within it so it still does include some of the major essentials to a drill video
but not all of them but the video goes to show that you don’t need to stick
with the standard environment to make a good video.
In the drill music video for the song Spot the difference by ONEFOUR, they
have pretty good coordination between them with the beat when dancing
because in some parts of the video, you’ll see them all raving when the beat
is of the song is at its peak and in others you will see them slowly bobbing
up and down as the beat of the song calms down. There is great synergy
with the song and the video in this music video because together it
enhances the effect of emotion and tone of the song when its with the
music video because of how well they work together. There performances
with motor bikes and the usage of flare/smoke grenades in the music video
also makes the music video more fascinating because its nothing like a
traditional main stream pop music video that most people would see.
The music video for the song SL, Gentleman starts off with a panning
upwards drone which creates a clear long-distant view of streets and then
instantly after that it cut to the beat with everyone in a shop dancing and
miming the song. This lasts throughout the song with some RGB splits
(glitches) in the mix with some flashes and other visual effects as well.
Overall this music video isn’t an original drill video because it it didn’t have
many new ideas involved, but it defiantly was a well executed drill video to

 Pan Shots of moving objects and vehicles.
 Motion Tracking texts, logos and other effects onto a wall, in
mid-air or car.
 GoPro on car for a smooth transitioning/moving shot.
 Green screen effects like cracking screens and other effects and
transitions to make the music video give the music video
more style and visual simulation for the viewer.
 High up drone shots of lakes, forests and tracking shots of cars
on country roads.
 Over the should shots of people walking within the frame of the
camera.
 Floor shots of trains in slow motions in between the miming and
dancing of the song within the music video.
CONVENTIONS YOU PLAN TO
USE
Within my music video, I will use conventions linked with drill genre to connect the
song with the video it plays alongside, so that there is synergy between the song and
the film thus make the overall music video feel like a music video because the
themes within the song and the imagery will merge nicely together. Although my
music video won’t be all visually drill inspired, because I'm not going to be shooting
an a street setting, I will use some essential conventions within my music video, like
close up & low angled shots that will make the music video atmospherically more
intense which is what is something that is usually used within drill video to carry the
traditional drill themes of violence and intimidation within the music video.
Although the setting of my music video isn’t very dill, I will make up for it by adding
visual effects within adobe editing software's, like glitches, shakes, color effects and
green screen effects like blood and gun shots which will be a symbolic touch,
relating back to the violent nature within the drill scene, so that it will make the
music video feel more drill and so that it will make the music video more stylistic and
visually stimulating.
Will use drone shots and slow motions shots and the start of my music video, which
are used frequently in drill videos in the intro, to make the drill video feel a if it is
building up and intensifying to something. After slow motion start, drill videos tend
to speed up, especially when it gets to the rap so that the video flows with the speed
of the song.
MIND MAP OF IDEAS
[SUMMARY OF IDEAS]
SUMMARY
5 opportunities of your ideas
One opportunity of my ideas would be that I get to record in
different terrains and areas which will open up more opportunities so
that I can get footage in different environments and abandoned
buildings.
Using a drone will allow me to have bird-eye and high angle views of
architecture, hills and lakes and will give me opportunities to get
more video records of cinematics for the intro of my music video.
Using premier pro effects will make me able to implement my ideas
into my music video because it will allow me to use all the essential
tools I will need to produce my music video.
An opportunities of one of my ideas would be that
SUMMARY
5 restrictions to your ideas
• If I don’t get permission to record somewhere, then I won't be able to record in that area because it
would be private for people to use for recording, thus could cause recording in the area to be illegal so
that might restrict the idea of recording in an abandoned area if I don’t get permission to record in the
area.
• If the drone is broken and/or the person who owns the drone isn't available, then that will restrict the
idea of using a drone in the intro of the music video. If this is a possibility, then I may have to
improvise and use an alternative shot like a panning long-shot or something, instead so that I at least
have a shot to use instead if I cant get drone shots.
• I had the idea of using smoke grenades in my music video, but it would be too dangerous to use them
in my music video, therefore I will not use them in the music video because it would cause too much
caution and it would be against the rules of making the music video as well, so I will not use any smoke
grenades within my music video.
• One restriction of my ideas would be that I simply haven't made a music video before, thus this is going
to make the journey of the music video feel quite experimental at times because from start to finish of
production I will be a noob throughout so the restriction to my ideas is that this is my first time
creating a music video and therefore it will potentially restrict me from creating a more professional
music video then if I have had made music video or had some more experience filming prior to this
current production within the project.
• Another restriction to one of my ideas potentially extreme weather, like heavy rain, hale, lightening and
snow, which could potentially cause a threat to not only to the locations and location access but to
recording process as well because cameras can't withstand certain climates because the electrics inside
them could die as a consequence of poor climate so that could restrict a range of various ideas if the
weather isn't kind to me and the crew on the days of recording because it could potentially delay, if not
make me and the crew unable to get certain footage that we need for are individual music videos.
FINAL IDEA –
ARTIST/TITLE/INFO
The artists that I’m doing are Bis & Blanco and the song
that I will be using is I Don’t Mind which is a drill song.
Both artists are apart of a group called Harlem Spartans,
which is a group full of drill artist who blew up into the
drill scene throughout 2016-17, which made them a
well-known group within drill. As a result, this bolstered
artists within Harlem Spartan’s popularity, which had a
lot of influence on the genre of drill because more
people began to notice and be interested in what was
going on within drill as it trended nationally.
Drill music originally began in early 2010 in Chicago,
United States and came from, but usually isn’t
comparable to, mumble rap which started in the mid
2010s, which was around when drill also began.
FINAL IDEA – TRACK
SUMMARY
Summary/analysis of track [consider meaning, content,
duration, pace and style of the song]
The track I don’t mind by Bis & Blanco has a duration of 2:57 so I will
need enough clips so that I can fill up the time needed for the music
video. Also the pace of the song is fast so I will need to record clips
that are on average of around 5 seconds each so that I can match the
speed of the clips in the music video to the song on the beat so that
the music video flows well altogether. There isn‘t really a specific
meaning to the song I don‘t mind beacuse in the song the lyrics are
about a veriety of different things, such as different artists, harlem
spartans and other random things that sound good lyrically.
The beat of the song is trap influence, however the tempo at which the
beat is going at is slightly different then the conventional hip hop beat
because in drill the BPM is typically 140, oppose to the usual hip-hop
beat which tends to be around 80-115 BPM so the speed for the drill

however it is still faster then most hip hop songs.
FINAL IDEA – TRACK
SUMMARY
FINAL IDEA – YOUR IDEA
Your creative concept/video synopsis [describe your interpretation, use of imagery or narrative, genre conventions, etc]
Because of the song that I have chosen, I will need to use elements of drill imagery, hence drill is the genre of the song that I am using
for my music video. Therefore I will definitely need to use some drill influences with my music video so that it at least feels slightly
stylistically like a drill music video rather then a music video that feels out of place or like a parody because that isn't what I am going
for for my music video. Although I will be creating and formulating a drill music video, my music video for the drill song chosen won't
have as much violent imagery that some traditional might have drill because although the song that I have chosen isn't as violent
lyrically and tonally as most drill music videos, the video that I will produce, will be more alternative of a drill video then the traditional
drill video because that’s the style that I am going for and because it’s a more original style and also not sticking to the visual routes
of a genre can open up more possibilities visually within the music video because it dissolves the metaphorical barriers around the
genre, artistically which allows for more diverse visual application with the music video. This alternative approach, when making this
drill music video, has made me decide that I want to take the recording to different environments around Sutton Bank and Thirk so
that I can include different environments in my music video and so that I can use an environment that more unique then the usual
street setting of a drill video.
Within my music video I will create a sense of direction within it so that it feels like the music video is going somewhere visually, which
will in return make the music video more interesting because it makes it feel like it is going somewhere or that it is building up to
something. I will mainly create this sense of direction by recording foot steps, doing some over the should shots and editing different
shot locations so that it looks like I'm trying to travel to somewhere. I will try and make it seem like I am vaguely going somewhere so
that it keeps the viewer of the music video interested in what they are hearing and listening to so that they listen all the way through
or majority of the way through. To bolster this sense of slight direction with the music video, I will add editing and alter speed to
make it feel as if the music video is intensifying along the duration of its play so that it will keep the interesting nature of it intact so
that it will look better and feel better because it will have more of a punch to it because you can feel the imagery. I will also use dogs
within my music video, which will be shot in slow motion and will be close ups. I will place the footage of the dogs between the
miming and also near the end possibly when the visuals of the music video slows down.
A brief overview of my music video would go along the lines of at the intro there will be slow motion shots at mainly low and eye level
angels which will most likely be close-up. Then it will cut to a drone shot going over trees and various different terrains at a
high angled shot looking at the ground, which will smoothly tit and lift upwards the frame of the camera so that it will create a
straight on view of the horizon within the background of the frame. After that, there will be multiple scenes of miming the song by me
and my crew within the music video which some slow motion shots in between the like slow motion shots of landscapes and shoes . I
will also add visual effects to the music music video as well like green screens and colour effects so that the music video doesn't feel
too empty or dull. However, I will try to restrain myself from adding too many effects because it will be too filled, to the point where it
may feel like it is over baked thus look unsatisfying. Towards the end of my music video, I will begin to add some more dramatic
shots, so that it feels like the ending point of the music video, and then at the very end, the image of the video will fade to black and
that will be the end.
I will try my best to make the video sync well with the song so that they feel smooth alongside each other within the music video so
that it will feel atmospheric and great. I will do this by lining the cuts and transitions of my footage on the timeline of the editing
software so that it aligns with the songs because so that the video essentially feels like it is emerged with the song, which is what is
TASK 2 Pre-production
Assessment
GUIDANCE:
PRE-PRODUCTION
ASSESSMENT
You need to assess the viability of your production and
investigate what is required to enable you to make your
music video
Much of this task is hypothetical, which means you will
need to investigate standard costings for such a
production and apply these to your planned production
considering which equipment you would need and
resources, etc
Resources to support this are in the Pre-production
assessment folder on Blackboard
Delete the questions on each slide and insert your
responses
TITLE OF
PRODUCTION/PRODUCTION
OUTLINESummary of intended production
Detail here what you are going to make and the intended outcome
Detailed breakdown of the music track chosen and your interpretation of it [remember the questions in the workbook,
e.g. pace/mood/tone/structure]
Specific outline your intended technical/equipment requirements
Include any details that you think [you could use material from your pitch]
The musical track that I have chosen, Bis x Blanco – I Don’t Mind, has somewhat violent and narcissistic
lyricism so I will, make the visuals of the music video intense at times so that the song links well with the
visuals within the video so that the overall chemistry between the video and song in the music video feels
complimentary to one another.
At the start of the song, it has little bass and it starts of at a moderately slow pace with the artist rapping. As
a result, I will be using a drone to get various drone shots of the countryside so that I can fill in parts of the
start of the song before the beat kicks in so that it catches the viewers attention and so that it works as a
tasteful intro to the music video that builds up swiftly. Also, I will add some melodic finesse to the editing
style when editing the music video in some parts because the beat of the song has a melodic undertone so it
will sync nicely together if I edit a more melodic style.
The pace that the song I'm going to use in my music video has a mild pace for a drill pace song, how ever it
is still quite a fast song, so I will need to make artistic decisions when necessary so that I can implement
specific speeds in the music video at different times of the song so that the visual and audio elements of the
music video are in sync with each others tempo.
Although some of the lyrics look intense at times, the delivery of the lyrics are relax throughout the song,
which is why I will make the visual flavor of the song feel relaxing as well but I will need to make the visuals
balanced because I don’t want to make the music video feel too relaxing because I don’t want to disregard
the violent lyrics within the song. The song that I will be using has a hard bass in it so I will make it so that
when the bass is the hardest points within the song, I will add some transitions & effects to compliment it
within the music video so that it looks good along side the bass in the song.
LOCATIONS
For my music video I will record at the Yorkshire, Sutton Bank white horse, which is approximately 18.7 miles away from where I
live and would take around 30 minuets to get to the location at Sutton Bank. Also the white horse is a public area for people to
go to so therefore I will have permission to film in the area. Also, I will need to take into consideration the weather conditions
because if the conditions of the weather is too rainy, then recording could potentially be damaging for the camera and if the
weather is windy or there is lightening then that could cause a threat to the recording process as a result we may have to
abandon the mission of recording and come back another day or we could also go to a public sheltered location as well so that
we can continue recording without the restrictions of the weathers holding the clip gathering process.
There is also two other locations at Sutton Bank with public access that I will be attending which are a cliff and a lake that
correspond to each other via paths of woodland that is public for filming. Baring that there will be vast woodland in-mind, I will
need to bring walking boots so that I can trek easily through the pathways without getting my feet wet or muddy, which could
slow the consumption of information hence it could disrupt the the overall adventure of getting the clips I need for my music
video.
When getting the shots for my music video, I will also need enough food on my journey because I could potentially be a fair
distance away from my my house and any nearby shops so I would defiantly need food and water with me to prevent any
starvation, especially if I get lost or the car runs out of fuel because that would cause a threat to my overall health. The cost of
fuel will be around ÂŁ10 so I might have to pay the driver (Jack) for the expenses of the drive from a to b.
In regards to the abandoned area, I will need to take caution when entering or going near the area because the area could be
decrepit, scattered with glass and/or it could have people inside, which could be a cause for concern. Therefore I will take safety
precautions when entering so that I will be safe.
There is not costs to there locations that I am entering so I won’t need to worry about bringing money to get access to the areas
the I am going to shoot in.
I will use tools such as the met office to organize times to go to certain locations so that the weather conditions will supreme
enough for the music video shooting.
EQUIPM
ENT
What do you need? E.g. equipment, resources? Mostly from college, but who do
you need to speak to get this kit? What is available? When?
Look at equipment hire places, etc
I would need to get my equipment from Chelsea and Gordon via booking the filming resources on
blackboard on the internet. I would need to this early, before I start recording so that I can get the kit I
need before it I start recording for my music video. The equipment that I would need to get from college
would be a gel for projecting different coloured lights onto me and my piers when recording the music
video via a car light, a camera to shoot shots for the music video, a camera stabilizer to drastically reduce
the shakiness of the frame when recording, a tripod to enable efficient panning and smooth movements of
the frame when shooting & gopro so that I can potentially attach it to a car so that I can smooth and
steady tracking shots of different subjects within the frame.
I will also probably use car lights at nigh and/or towards the end of the day so that I can have a powerful
light source projecting onto me and my crew and so that I can put put gels over them to alter the colours
in the frames thus inflicting more creativeness to the music video, potentially broadening the stylistic
nature of my music video if it works well in the music video.
Also, I will acquire a drone that I will get from my mates mate William with his consent, of course so that I
can officially used the drone for my music video. With all of this equipment, I will have just the right
amount of the essential things that I will need to formulate a well-produced music video for my project.
Me and the crew may bring a laptop, especially when recording greater amount of shots, and pen drives so
that we have enough storage, when recording for the music video so that we don’t run out of storage when
recording so that we don’t run out of space for the clips we need for the music video.
FACILITIES
Where will you edit your video? Do you need any other
specialist facilities…?
I will use a bunch of different facilities for filming such as
potentially, if I get permission, insides and outsides of houses
and abandoned areas so that we have a variety of different
locations when filming the music video so that the music video
feels more stylistic and interesting with it’s locations. I will get
consent for the places that I’m able to record within the
grounds.
I will most likely edit the clips with an adobe editing software
for my music video at college, but I may, if I have time, edit my
some of my music video at home as well so that I can add some
extra plug-ins and other effects that I may have thought of at
home that I could project onto the music video to further
optimize my creative potential on the music video thus
potentially making the music video look even better then if I
PERSONNEL
CREW: What is you team? Who is in it? What are each team members
strengths/weaknesses? When are they available?
I will have 3 people In my crew and two dogs. They will all be involved within the
music video.
CAST: Do you need any external performers? When are they available?
Cost implications? Will you have to feed them? Transport them?
I will not have any external performers because I wont need any
because I've got enough crew to shoot the music video with.
Other personnel? Is anyone else helping you?
I will get someone to fly the drone so that I can direct them to get the
shots that I want because I don’t know how to fly a drone and I won’t
have much time to learn how to efficiently get shots with one so there
wont be much point of learning how to use it if it will slow the
recording process down.
PROPS/COSTUME/ETC
In my music video I will use props such as puffer jacket and a mask to add to the drill aesthetic that I am going
for within my music video because wearing dark clothing and a glow in the dark mask which can looks quite
intimidating in certain settings. Although I will be using some visual elements of drill within my music video, the
song, although it does have some violent lyrics, it isn’t nearly as nihilistic as most traditional drill songs are. This
is one of the reasons as to why I will be using a location that isn’t in a street corner, because filming in a more
countryside setting would suit the song more and it would open up more creative and stylistic opportunities for
me when recording.
Most drill artists use masks as well, so that they can cover up their identity for a range of reasons but most often
it is because of crime & gangs but it is also used to make the members of the music video look scarier then they
actually are to make the music video. As a result, I will be using masks and glow in the dark masks within my
music video so that I can add to the theme and the feel of a drill music video.
I will also use cars in the music video in slow motions because I think that it will add to the stylistic nature of my
music video and in drill videos they also tend to use cars in drill videos so it would add to the drill theme of the
music video and because they would look good in the intro to my music video.
Some more clothing that I will use in my music video are a hat so that I add more of a variety to my style of
clothing in my music video and a reflective coat as well so that I can make my coat glow in my music video,
which could potentially make it look more interesting, if I make the exposure of the clips look crisp so that it
exposes the coat in a way that looks good in the dark and/or dim light within the music video.
TASK 3.1 Visual Planning
PRE-PRODUCTION: VISUAL
PLANNING
This section is concerned with the visual planning of your
music video
You should use this section to develop the sequencing or
your video, establish the relationship between the visuals
and the track itself and create a structure for you to
follow when filming
It is important that you ‘pre-visualise’ the video before
you make it; it will make filming and production a more
streamlined process
The following tasks are part of your visual planning
 Pre-visualisation and concept boards
 Storyboarding
 Shot list
PRE-
VISUALISATION/CONCEPT
BOARDS
Tool for exploring the direction and visuals
Provides inspiration and information for the “look & feel”
Presents key moments in your video
A means to sketch/plan ideas
Information on colour/lighting
Defining the “mise-en-scene”
Include as much here as you like, but keep it relevant to the
production, the following slides have been left blank for you
to approach in your own way, add more as you need to

SHOT
S
I will use slow motion
high & low
tracking/panning shots of
Mercedes c300
convertible & polo beats
2019 at 50fps in my
music video as filler shots
to bulk out music video.
I will use drone shots in
my music video
potentially over lakes
and and forestland. The
drone shots will consist
of moving long/high
shots and upwards
panning, tilt shot as
well.
In the music video
I will have hyper-
focused slow
motion shots of
trainers which will
cut in, in-between
the
cinematography
and other shots
within the music
video..
In the music video I will use eye-
level and low shots when miming
& dancing to the song because
the eye-level shot is a standard
shot that looks good because it is
a clear view. And the low shot
makes the figures in the video
look larger in stature, which make
the person appear more dominant
in the video because the frame is
face upwards to the person.
SHO
TS Over the shoulder shots will be included
within my music video. I will probably use
over the shoulder shots when someone is
walking, to make it feel like the character is
going somewhere in the video, which will
make the music video feel like story leading
up to something, which will make the music
video have a better sense of direction
I will use either a medium or long shots within my music video.
Preferably so that there is a vast background in front of the
subject in the frame so that it looks like the person in the frame
is gazing into the distance of something that is worthy of looking
at. I will probably use this shots looking safely in the distance
near off a cliff and/or into the distance of a forest.
In the music video I will use extreme and regular
close-up shots of masks. I will probably also
have a slight pan from left to right or the platter
at so that the imagery of the shot feel
professional and smooth, and I also might incline
the height of the camera from a low angel so it
feels more cinematic of a shot within the music
video.
RIP-O-
MATIC
You should also construct a 15-20second Rip-o-matic
test reel using existing footage to convey the type of
video you want to make
This RIP-O-MATIC that I have produced is a short overview of what my
music video would vaguely look like…
STRUCTURAL
BREAKDOWNAt the start of the track it starts of with a subtle beat with rap over it so I will add some slow motion
shots of cars, close up camera shots of masks and a drone shot over a lake or some trees at the start
to kick the music video off so that it catches the viewers attention in the intro of the music video.
Finally, after recording these shots, I will continue to put the mp4 files orderly into the adobe editing
software's timeline so that I can begin to add title/lyric text and visual effects onto the videos.
At 0:17 the beat comes in an that is where I will cut to the part where I’ll be miming the lyrics at
various locations at Sutton Bank and around areas of Thirsk. When the beat comes in, the speed of my
clips will need to speed up from the beginning after the cut from the beat because the overall beat
and rapping starts to speed up so I will need to sync the tempo of the video to the song so that they
match thus be complimentary to each other, which will make the flow and the feel of the music video
better altogether. Also, when the beat comes in, I will add a shake, motion blur and a color flash so
that it enhances the beat when it comes in to make it feel explosive and hard-hitting in the music
video.
As the music video continues from the start, I will add green screen effects when editing, such as
smashed glass when I throw a gun gesture out so that it looks like I'm shooting the screen and I will
also add a slight shake as well so that it will add to the effect. I will also use water splashes and fire
green screens for transitions on the beat to add more effects onto my music video so that it looks
more visually stimulating & interesting within the music video. As well-as a green screen I will also
record a still frame of the woods with trees within the frame so that I can mask-out parts of the layers
in the edit software so that it will look like someone entering past a tree and someone else coming
out of the other side which would look cool is executed well.
When it get near the middle and the end of the song, I will use the more cinematic long shots that I
will record at Sutton Bank at the lake, trees & and cliff and more visual effects so that the music video
feels like it is building up to something to make it more interesting to watch and listen to rather then
to have the music video being flat thought out it’s play.
STORYBOARDING
Your storyboard should bring your idea to life
Provide an idea of the sequencing of you video
Provides a basis for production

Alternatively, hand draw or photograph your storyboard and
scan or copy to insert it onto your slides
There are lots of tips collected together on Blackboard!
STORYBOARDIN
G
At the start will use close up
moving slow motion shots of
masks. Then I will use slow
motion shots of cars which will
be a mix of close ups, medium &
long shots.
After that, the clip before the
beat comes in, I will
implement a long shot, high
angled drone shot which will
go over a lake and
forestland.
When the beat comes in, it will cut to
me and my piers miming and dancing
to the song in various locations with
visual effects bouncing around the
frame of the music video.
Then, I will continue to add
visual effects, such as green
screen effects like smashed
screens, fire popping for a
transition and many other visual
effect throughout the music
video in the right amounts so
Within the music video, I will
add a part where I will use a
stable camera to record tree so
that I make the illusion that
someone is walking in and
another person walks out of the
At the end of my music video, I
will use cinematic drone shots
of the cliff at Sutton Bank and a
country road with a car in the
frame, which is where the video
fades to black which will mark
the end of the video.

LOCATION INFORMATION
Information and images of your location[s] for filming
You should have address details, clearance/premissions
for filming, recce photos and floorplans [including
camera, equipment and cast/crew layouts]
Where possible, have a plan B fallback location option
Assess each location for any issues and suggest
solutions
LOCATIONS
Sutton Bank: Cliff, Lake, Forest, Paths.
Jacks house & Jack’s mates house, garden and barn.
Country roads near Thirk and Sessay.
Thirk motorway bridge.
RISK ASSESSMENT
Risk Assess each separate filming location using the
table in the camera H&S PP on Bb as a staring point
Completing a generic filming assessment would be a
start, then you can add specialist/site specific risks as
you progress your production
Remember, a Risk Assessment is an ongoing document,
you should evaluate if anything changes in production
and when you put control measures in place
You should add the table to each call sheet for each
location
RISK
ASSESSMEN
TI will need to take some precautions into account when going out to film because there will be risks
when filming in various areas around where I am going when filming for the music video. One obvious
risk would be to not record in areas that I am not allow to record in. For example, areas where I haven't
had permission to record at like fields and buildings that aren’t open to the public to go in.
Also I will need to be carful near Sutton Bank because there is a cliff edge, which would be fatal if fell of
it so I will need to stay as safely away from the edge as I can, in order so that I can not die or become
seriously injured. At the lake at Sutton Bank, I need to make sure that I don’t fall into the water because
that would make me wet and could be risky to the project because it could be detrimental to the
recording process because I might have to go home to change my clothes and I also may because
extremely cold if the temperature is low, which could cause me to become hyper thermic, so I will need
to take fall into a lake into consideration for those physiological and work-related reason.
In terms of equipment, I would need to be extra carful because I don’t want to damage and/or lose and
equipment because they are expensive, not mine and it will disrupt the filming for the music video
because I might potentially not have enough clips, which would be another risk to take into
consideration. To prevent this I will need to make sure that my equipment is locked into place when I’m
using the tripod, make sure that I don’t put my tripod in an unstable ground and overall respect the
equipment being used, as in I would need to be sensible with them and not mess around with the
instruments for my recoding of the music video.
Also there could potentially be fire used in the music video on a patio in a controlled setting, so I will
need to have water in case of an emergency and make sure that there is nothing flammable near by, if
possible to prevent any explosions and/or fires.
CONTINGENCY PLANNING
Things go wrong
Your contingency plan is there to give you a backup or to minimise the
effect on production
You should consider the following areas: Technical, Location,
Personnel and Organisational areas [about 5 potential issues for each]
Use the form in pre-production folder on Blackboard
CONTINGENCY
PLAN
When I go out to record, the tripod doesn't work because its broken, I will need to improvise by
use the stabilizer instead, throughout the music video so that I can at least go steady shots of
scenery and of the crew within the music video, so that the video doesn't look shake because
shaky videos doesn’t look good. And the same applies if the stabilizer is broken as well.
If I am unable to get a drone shots for the video because we cant get the drone for the music
video or the drone is broken, I will need to fill-in the spaces where there would be a drone
with something different, like some panning high long shots of the Yorkshire countryside or
something so that I don’t have any empty spaces.
If certain locations, like at Sutton bank, are closed due to various reasons like flooding or car
crashes, I may have to go to another location instead, so that I can get the footage I will need
for my music video.
If one of my crew members are away or can't get to the music video shooting, then I'll will have
to do my best to get the music video done with the people and equipment, that I
have available.
Before I go out to record, I will sort out with the crew, who will bring the equipment home, so
that the crew is organized so that we don’t lose and know who has what equipment so that one
person doesn’t carry round all the equipment.
If the weather is too extreme (Lightning, heavy rain, hale etc.), then I have to abort the
recording, but I will keep my eyes on the weather on websites like google, bbc and met office so
that I have knowledge of what the climate will be in the future.
PRODUCTION SCHEDULE
Provide an outline of what you will do on which days
during production
You should broadly plan to the following structure:
- 2 weeks pre-production
- 1 week filming [plan for up to 2 days]
- 2 weeks editing [essentially 2 days for every day you
filmed]
SCHEDU
LE
- 2 weeks pre-production. Throughout the 2 weeks of pre-production, I
will thoroughly plan-out what I will do for my music video and what specific
elements will be used within it.
- I will probably film on October 17th, 18th & 19th. Within these days, I will
first film the main shots for the music videos, like the miming on the first
day so that I can get them out of the way thus make time in the future for
the drone shots and other smaller and larger shots from the music video so
that I know what I am doing on what days.
- I will be editing for 2 weeks on the adobe editing software's premier pro
and after effects so that I can efficiently edit my footage so that I
can complete my music video for the project. At the start, I will
begin importing my footage into my editing software so that I can place the
clips orderly onto the timeline. Then I will begin syncing the clips with the
beat via placing the clips in a way that will make the clips cut to one
another on the beat so that the video transitions alongside the song. Once
I have sorted out the arrangements of the clips on the timeline with
the song, I will start editing the clips from the beginning of the timeline in
the editing software and work my way up the timeline by adding various
effects to compliment the song thus making the overall music video feel
richer, more stylistic and authentic to watch. I will edit from the 28-31st of

  • 2. GUIDANCE This template PowerPoint presentation includes all the relevant elements you need to cover in your Music Video Assignment It is suggested you save this PP in a different name and share it with your group so you always have a copy – some sections require you to delete the information on the slide and replace with your own work Add more pages to each section where necessary [you should be doing this!] Add visuals as you see necessary This document will be added to as you progress through the pre-production phase. Delete this slide when complete
  • 3. TASK 1 Idea Generation and Research
  • 4. RESEARCH & IDEA GENERATION Select a song/track that you like [or don’t like!] Generate three ideas for music videos employing styles, techniques and conventions that we have looked at in previous sessions. Explore how you could interpret the song differently using different methods You can add any extra info you think is relevant, images, mind maps, etc For quick mind maps you could use bubbl.us to generate these
  • 5. RESEARCH Watch a selection of videos to get your ideas started, make note of a minimum of 5 – add extra slides, screenshot the video and in bullet point note down info in terms of camera, editing, art design, performance, etc and how this might link to your production • The camera shots are usually shot at the artists straight on for a clear view and low angled shots focused on the artists to make the artists appear larger, thus making them look more dominant and superior in the video, which adds to the drill aspect of the song within the video. • Within the Blanco & Bis music video, they also use a slow- motion ground shot at the feet of the artists for a few seconds between the rapping so that it gave the motion and speed of the video small break before building-up the momentum in the music video to a speed that is comparable to the songs tempo and rhythm. •The editing for this video is quite supreme because the amount of visual effects within this music video like the text that drifts in and out of the frame with a tint of motion blur to add realism when the text moves about in the video, Hint! You’ve already done this in your case study, so you can summarise that here where relevant Bis x Blanco: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7w- 4xAXjdbo
  • 6. Kwengface: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJaAhP2N5_w RESEA RCH The song Twix by Kwengface is a drill song which has a traditionalistic setting for a music video because the video is shot in the streets of London, where the majority of UK drill videos are filmed. At the start of the music video, there is a slow moving high up drone shot London and with the similar shard in the frame, which was a useful shot for the video because not only does it show an overview of London, it also makes the music video feel more grand, which amplifies the atmosphere of the music video, especially since it’s the intro and when someone see the drone shot at the start, it makes them want to watch more of the music video because of the aesthetically pleasing start of the video. In the video, it depicts Kwengface with a Jason Voorhees mask on while he dances and throws out hand gesture to the song. Masks are common within drill videos because some artists want to stay anonymous to the public so that they can add to the style of a drill artist in the UK and/or they they’ve got in trouble with the law or on probation so they can get away with being in these drill music videos. The editing of the scenes are fast switches between one another and are on the beat which makes the speed of the video match the speed of the song smoothly as it adds intensification and bulk into the music video as a whole. Also, there is a lot of low shots of the artist, which is a common camera angel in drill music videos, which makes the artist appear bigger and more dominant in the video. This shot is used to a great effect when we see Kwengface
  • 7. RESEARCH SL - Gentleman: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGbMzi7UQig SL - Tropical: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuzMyTHNFDw Spot the Difference - ONEFOUR: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ajjtzwz930 Most drill videos include large groups of people dancing, raving, aggression, substances and is usually in a street setting because that’s what the genre of drill ascended from visually. However, there are some drill songs and artist who put a slightly alternative twist on drill and the music videos to make their music videos standout in the genre. A great example of this is the SL music video for the song Tropical, which is filmed in Iceland at a house near a glacier oppose to the traditional drill location of London. Although the environment of the music video is not comparable to the standard drill music video, it still includes similar clothes, styles and cars within it so it still does include some of the major essentials to a drill video but not all of them but the video goes to show that you don’t need to stick with the standard environment to make a good video. In the drill music video for the song Spot the difference by ONEFOUR, they have pretty good coordination between them with the beat when dancing because in some parts of the video, you’ll see them all raving when the beat is of the song is at its peak and in others you will see them slowly bobbing up and down as the beat of the song calms down. There is great synergy with the song and the video in this music video because together it enhances the effect of emotion and tone of the song when its with the music video because of how well they work together. There performances with motor bikes and the usage of flare/smoke grenades in the music video also makes the music video more fascinating because its nothing like a traditional main stream pop music video that most people would see. The music video for the song SL, Gentleman starts off with a panning upwards drone which creates a clear long-distant view of streets and then instantly after that it cut to the beat with everyone in a shop dancing and miming the song. This lasts throughout the song with some RGB splits (glitches) in the mix with some flashes and other visual effects as well. Overall this music video isn’t an original drill video because it it didn’t have many new ideas involved, but it defiantly was a well executed drill video to

  • 9. POTENTIAL TECHNIQUES  Pan Shots of moving objects and vehicles.  Motion Tracking texts, logos and other effects onto a wall, in mid-air or car.  GoPro on car for a smooth transitioning/moving shot.  Green screen effects like cracking screens and other effects and transitions to make the music video give the music video more style and visual simulation for the viewer.  High up drone shots of lakes, forests and tracking shots of cars on country roads.  Over the should shots of people walking within the frame of the camera.  Floor shots of trains in slow motions in between the miming and dancing of the song within the music video.
  • 10. CONVENTIONS YOU PLAN TO USE Within my music video, I will use conventions linked with drill genre to connect the song with the video it plays alongside, so that there is synergy between the song and the film thus make the overall music video feel like a music video because the themes within the song and the imagery will merge nicely together. Although my music video won’t be all visually drill inspired, because I'm not going to be shooting an a street setting, I will use some essential conventions within my music video, like close up & low angled shots that will make the music video atmospherically more intense which is what is something that is usually used within drill video to carry the traditional drill themes of violence and intimidation within the music video. Although the setting of my music video isn’t very dill, I will make up for it by adding visual effects within adobe editing software's, like glitches, shakes, color effects and green screen effects like blood and gun shots which will be a symbolic touch, relating back to the violent nature within the drill scene, so that it will make the music video feel more drill and so that it will make the music video more stylistic and visually stimulating. Will use drone shots and slow motions shots and the start of my music video, which are used frequently in drill videos in the intro, to make the drill video feel a if it is building up and intensifying to something. After slow motion start, drill videos tend to speed up, especially when it gets to the rap so that the video flows with the speed of the song.
  • 11. MIND MAP OF IDEAS [SUMMARY OF IDEAS]
  • 12. SUMMARY 5 opportunities of your ideas One opportunity of my ideas would be that I get to record in different terrains and areas which will open up more opportunities so that I can get footage in different environments and abandoned buildings. Using a drone will allow me to have bird-eye and high angle views of architecture, hills and lakes and will give me opportunities to get more video records of cinematics for the intro of my music video. Using premier pro effects will make me able to implement my ideas into my music video because it will allow me to use all the essential tools I will need to produce my music video. An opportunities of one of my ideas would be that
  • 13. SUMMARY 5 restrictions to your ideas • If I don’t get permission to record somewhere, then I won't be able to record in that area because it would be private for people to use for recording, thus could cause recording in the area to be illegal so that might restrict the idea of recording in an abandoned area if I don’t get permission to record in the area. • If the drone is broken and/or the person who owns the drone isn't available, then that will restrict the idea of using a drone in the intro of the music video. If this is a possibility, then I may have to improvise and use an alternative shot like a panning long-shot or something, instead so that I at least have a shot to use instead if I cant get drone shots. • I had the idea of using smoke grenades in my music video, but it would be too dangerous to use them in my music video, therefore I will not use them in the music video because it would cause too much caution and it would be against the rules of making the music video as well, so I will not use any smoke grenades within my music video. • One restriction of my ideas would be that I simply haven't made a music video before, thus this is going to make the journey of the music video feel quite experimental at times because from start to finish of production I will be a noob throughout so the restriction to my ideas is that this is my first time creating a music video and therefore it will potentially restrict me from creating a more professional music video then if I have had made music video or had some more experience filming prior to this current production within the project. • Another restriction to one of my ideas potentially extreme weather, like heavy rain, hale, lightening and snow, which could potentially cause a threat to not only to the locations and location access but to recording process as well because cameras can't withstand certain climates because the electrics inside them could die as a consequence of poor climate so that could restrict a range of various ideas if the weather isn't kind to me and the crew on the days of recording because it could potentially delay, if not make me and the crew unable to get certain footage that we need for are individual music videos.
  • 14. FINAL IDEA – ARTIST/TITLE/INFO The artists that I’m doing are Bis & Blanco and the song that I will be using is I Don’t Mind which is a drill song. Both artists are apart of a group called Harlem Spartans, which is a group full of drill artist who blew up into the drill scene throughout 2016-17, which made them a well-known group within drill. As a result, this bolstered artists within Harlem Spartan’s popularity, which had a lot of influence on the genre of drill because more people began to notice and be interested in what was going on within drill as it trended nationally. Drill music originally began in early 2010 in Chicago, United States and came from, but usually isn’t comparable to, mumble rap which started in the mid 2010s, which was around when drill also began.
  • 15. FINAL IDEA – TRACK SUMMARY Summary/analysis of track [consider meaning, content, duration, pace and style of the song] The track I don’t mind by Bis & Blanco has a duration of 2:57 so I will need enough clips so that I can fill up the time needed for the music video. Also the pace of the song is fast so I will need to record clips that are on average of around 5 seconds each so that I can match the speed of the clips in the music video to the song on the beat so that the music video flows well altogether. There isn‘t really a specific meaning to the song I don‘t mind beacuse in the song the lyrics are about a veriety of different things, such as different artists, harlem spartans and other random things that sound good lyrically. The beat of the song is trap influence, however the tempo at which the beat is going at is slightly different then the conventional hip hop beat because in drill the BPM is typically 140, oppose to the usual hip-hop beat which tends to be around 80-115 BPM so the speed for the drill be is

Although drill songs are quicker then hip-hop songs on average, the drill song that I will being for my music video is much slower then the usual drill song, however it is still faster then most hip hop songs. FINAL IDEA – TRACK SUMMARY
  • 17. FINAL IDEA – YOUR IDEA Your creative concept/video synopsis [describe your interpretation, use of imagery or narrative, genre conventions, etc] Because of the song that I have chosen, I will need to use elements of drill imagery, hence drill is the genre of the song that I am using for my music video. Therefore I will definitely need to use some drill influences with my music video so that it at least feels slightly stylistically like a drill music video rather then a music video that feels out of place or like a parody because that isn't what I am going for for my music video. Although I will be creating and formulating a drill music video, my music video for the drill song chosen won't have as much violent imagery that some traditional might have drill because although the song that I have chosen isn't as violent lyrically and tonally as most drill music videos, the video that I will produce, will be more alternative of a drill video then the traditional drill video because that’s the style that I am going for and because it’s a more original style and also not sticking to the visual routes of a genre can open up more possibilities visually within the music video because it dissolves the metaphorical barriers around the genre, artistically which allows for more diverse visual application with the music video. This alternative approach, when making this drill music video, has made me decide that I want to take the recording to different environments around Sutton Bank and Thirk so that I can include different environments in my music video and so that I can use an environment that more unique then the usual street setting of a drill video. Within my music video I will create a sense of direction within it so that it feels like the music video is going somewhere visually, which will in return make the music video more interesting because it makes it feel like it is going somewhere or that it is building up to something. I will mainly create this sense of direction by recording foot steps, doing some over the should shots and editing different shot locations so that it looks like I'm trying to travel to somewhere. I will try and make it seem like I am vaguely going somewhere so that it keeps the viewer of the music video interested in what they are hearing and listening to so that they listen all the way through or majority of the way through. To bolster this sense of slight direction with the music video, I will add editing and alter speed to make it feel as if the music video is intensifying along the duration of its play so that it will keep the interesting nature of it intact so that it will look better and feel better because it will have more of a punch to it because you can feel the imagery. I will also use dogs within my music video, which will be shot in slow motion and will be close ups. I will place the footage of the dogs between the miming and also near the end possibly when the visuals of the music video slows down. A brief overview of my music video would go along the lines of at the intro there will be slow motion shots at mainly low and eye level angels which will most likely be close-up. Then it will cut to a drone shot going over trees and various different terrains at a high angled shot looking at the ground, which will smoothly tit and lift upwards the frame of the camera so that it will create a straight on view of the horizon within the background of the frame. After that, there will be multiple scenes of miming the song by me and my crew within the music video which some slow motion shots in between the like slow motion shots of landscapes and shoes . I will also add visual effects to the music music video as well like green screens and colour effects so that the music video doesn't feel too empty or dull. However, I will try to restrain myself from adding too many effects because it will be too filled, to the point where it may feel like it is over baked thus look unsatisfying. Towards the end of my music video, I will begin to add some more dramatic shots, so that it feels like the ending point of the music video, and then at the very end, the image of the video will fade to black and that will be the end. I will try my best to make the video sync well with the song so that they feel smooth alongside each other within the music video so that it will feel atmospheric and great. I will do this by lining the cuts and transitions of my footage on the timeline of the editing software so that it aligns with the songs because so that the video essentially feels like it is emerged with the song, which is what is
  • 19. GUIDANCE: PRE-PRODUCTION ASSESSMENT You need to assess the viability of your production and investigate what is required to enable you to make your music video Much of this task is hypothetical, which means you will need to investigate standard costings for such a production and apply these to your planned production considering which equipment you would need and resources, etc Resources to support this are in the Pre-production assessment folder on Blackboard Delete the questions on each slide and insert your responses
  • 20. TITLE OF PRODUCTION/PRODUCTION OUTLINESummary of intended production Detail here what you are going to make and the intended outcome Detailed breakdown of the music track chosen and your interpretation of it [remember the questions in the workbook, e.g. pace/mood/tone/structure] Specific outline your intended technical/equipment requirements Include any details that you think [you could use material from your pitch] The musical track that I have chosen, Bis x Blanco – I Don’t Mind, has somewhat violent and narcissistic lyricism so I will, make the visuals of the music video intense at times so that the song links well with the visuals within the video so that the overall chemistry between the video and song in the music video feels complimentary to one another. At the start of the song, it has little bass and it starts of at a moderately slow pace with the artist rapping. As a result, I will be using a drone to get various drone shots of the countryside so that I can fill in parts of the start of the song before the beat kicks in so that it catches the viewers attention and so that it works as a tasteful intro to the music video that builds up swiftly. Also, I will add some melodic finesse to the editing style when editing the music video in some parts because the beat of the song has a melodic undertone so it will sync nicely together if I edit a more melodic style. The pace that the song I'm going to use in my music video has a mild pace for a drill pace song, how ever it is still quite a fast song, so I will need to make artistic decisions when necessary so that I can implement specific speeds in the music video at different times of the song so that the visual and audio elements of the music video are in sync with each others tempo. Although some of the lyrics look intense at times, the delivery of the lyrics are relax throughout the song, which is why I will make the visual flavor of the song feel relaxing as well but I will need to make the visuals balanced because I don’t want to make the music video feel too relaxing because I don’t want to disregard the violent lyrics within the song. The song that I will be using has a hard bass in it so I will make it so that when the bass is the hardest points within the song, I will add some transitions & effects to compliment it within the music video so that it looks good along side the bass in the song.
  • 21. LOCATIONS For my music video I will record at the Yorkshire, Sutton Bank white horse, which is approximately 18.7 miles away from where I live and would take around 30 minuets to get to the location at Sutton Bank. Also the white horse is a public area for people to go to so therefore I will have permission to film in the area. Also, I will need to take into consideration the weather conditions because if the conditions of the weather is too rainy, then recording could potentially be damaging for the camera and if the weather is windy or there is lightening then that could cause a threat to the recording process as a result we may have to abandon the mission of recording and come back another day or we could also go to a public sheltered location as well so that we can continue recording without the restrictions of the weathers holding the clip gathering process. There is also two other locations at Sutton Bank with public access that I will be attending which are a cliff and a lake that correspond to each other via paths of woodland that is public for filming. Baring that there will be vast woodland in-mind, I will need to bring walking boots so that I can trek easily through the pathways without getting my feet wet or muddy, which could slow the consumption of information hence it could disrupt the the overall adventure of getting the clips I need for my music video. When getting the shots for my music video, I will also need enough food on my journey because I could potentially be a fair distance away from my my house and any nearby shops so I would defiantly need food and water with me to prevent any starvation, especially if I get lost or the car runs out of fuel because that would cause a threat to my overall health. The cost of fuel will be around ÂŁ10 so I might have to pay the driver (Jack) for the expenses of the drive from a to b. In regards to the abandoned area, I will need to take caution when entering or going near the area because the area could be decrepit, scattered with glass and/or it could have people inside, which could be a cause for concern. Therefore I will take safety precautions when entering so that I will be safe. There is not costs to there locations that I am entering so I won’t need to worry about bringing money to get access to the areas the I am going to shoot in. I will use tools such as the met office to organize times to go to certain locations so that the weather conditions will supreme enough for the music video shooting.
  • 22. EQUIPM ENT What do you need? E.g. equipment, resources? Mostly from college, but who do you need to speak to get this kit? What is available? When? Look at equipment hire places, etc I would need to get my equipment from Chelsea and Gordon via booking the filming resources on blackboard on the internet. I would need to this early, before I start recording so that I can get the kit I need before it I start recording for my music video. The equipment that I would need to get from college would be a gel for projecting different coloured lights onto me and my piers when recording the music video via a car light, a camera to shoot shots for the music video, a camera stabilizer to drastically reduce the shakiness of the frame when recording, a tripod to enable efficient panning and smooth movements of the frame when shooting & gopro so that I can potentially attach it to a car so that I can smooth and steady tracking shots of different subjects within the frame. I will also probably use car lights at nigh and/or towards the end of the day so that I can have a powerful light source projecting onto me and my crew and so that I can put put gels over them to alter the colours in the frames thus inflicting more creativeness to the music video, potentially broadening the stylistic nature of my music video if it works well in the music video. Also, I will acquire a drone that I will get from my mates mate William with his consent, of course so that I can officially used the drone for my music video. With all of this equipment, I will have just the right amount of the essential things that I will need to formulate a well-produced music video for my project. Me and the crew may bring a laptop, especially when recording greater amount of shots, and pen drives so that we have enough storage, when recording for the music video so that we don’t run out of storage when recording so that we don’t run out of space for the clips we need for the music video.
  • 23. FACILITIES Where will you edit your video? Do you need any other specialist facilities…? I will use a bunch of different facilities for filming such as potentially, if I get permission, insides and outsides of houses and abandoned areas so that we have a variety of different locations when filming the music video so that the music video feels more stylistic and interesting with it’s locations. I will get consent for the places that I’m able to record within the grounds. I will most likely edit the clips with an adobe editing software for my music video at college, but I may, if I have time, edit my some of my music video at home as well so that I can add some extra plug-ins and other effects that I may have thought of at home that I could project onto the music video to further optimize my creative potential on the music video thus potentially making the music video look even better then if I
  • 24. PERSONNEL CREW: What is you team? Who is in it? What are each team members strengths/weaknesses? When are they available? I will have 3 people In my crew and two dogs. They will all be involved within the music video. CAST: Do you need any external performers? When are they available? Cost implications? Will you have to feed them? Transport them? I will not have any external performers because I wont need any because I've got enough crew to shoot the music video with. Other personnel? Is anyone else helping you? I will get someone to fly the drone so that I can direct them to get the shots that I want because I don’t know how to fly a drone and I won’t have much time to learn how to efficiently get shots with one so there wont be much point of learning how to use it if it will slow the recording process down.
  • 25. PROPS/COSTUME/ETC In my music video I will use props such as puffer jacket and a mask to add to the drill aesthetic that I am going for within my music video because wearing dark clothing and a glow in the dark mask which can looks quite intimidating in certain settings. Although I will be using some visual elements of drill within my music video, the song, although it does have some violent lyrics, it isn’t nearly as nihilistic as most traditional drill songs are. This is one of the reasons as to why I will be using a location that isn’t in a street corner, because filming in a more countryside setting would suit the song more and it would open up more creative and stylistic opportunities for me when recording. Most drill artists use masks as well, so that they can cover up their identity for a range of reasons but most often it is because of crime & gangs but it is also used to make the members of the music video look scarier then they actually are to make the music video. As a result, I will be using masks and glow in the dark masks within my music video so that I can add to the theme and the feel of a drill music video. I will also use cars in the music video in slow motions because I think that it will add to the stylistic nature of my music video and in drill videos they also tend to use cars in drill videos so it would add to the drill theme of the music video and because they would look good in the intro to my music video. Some more clothing that I will use in my music video are a hat so that I add more of a variety to my style of clothing in my music video and a reflective coat as well so that I can make my coat glow in my music video, which could potentially make it look more interesting, if I make the exposure of the clips look crisp so that it exposes the coat in a way that looks good in the dark and/or dim light within the music video.
  • 26. TASK 3.1 Visual Planning
  • 27. PRE-PRODUCTION: VISUAL PLANNING This section is concerned with the visual planning of your music video You should use this section to develop the sequencing or your video, establish the relationship between the visuals and the track itself and create a structure for you to follow when filming It is important that you ‘pre-visualise’ the video before you make it; it will make filming and production a more streamlined process The following tasks are part of your visual planning  Pre-visualisation and concept boards  Storyboarding  Shot list
  • 28. PRE- VISUALISATION/CONCEPT BOARDS Tool for exploring the direction and visuals Provides inspiration and information for the “look & feel” Presents key moments in your video A means to sketch/plan ideas Information on colour/lighting Defining the “mise-en-scene” Include as much here as you like, but keep it relevant to the production, the following slides have been left blank for you to approach in your own way, add more as you need to Extension suggestion: edit a short sequence of clips that have inspired or influenced your video [similar to this: http://io9.com/5941145/this-directors-video-pitch-for- hunger-games-might-be-better-than-the-real-movie]
  • 29. SHOT S I will use slow motion high & low tracking/panning shots of Mercedes c300 convertible & polo beats 2019 at 50fps in my music video as filler shots to bulk out music video. I will use drone shots in my music video potentially over lakes and and forestland. The drone shots will consist of moving long/high shots and upwards panning, tilt shot as well. In the music video I will have hyper- focused slow motion shots of trainers which will cut in, in-between the cinematography and other shots within the music video.. In the music video I will use eye- level and low shots when miming & dancing to the song because the eye-level shot is a standard shot that looks good because it is a clear view. And the low shot makes the figures in the video look larger in stature, which make the person appear more dominant in the video because the frame is face upwards to the person.
  • 30. SHO TS Over the shoulder shots will be included within my music video. I will probably use over the shoulder shots when someone is walking, to make it feel like the character is going somewhere in the video, which will make the music video feel like story leading up to something, which will make the music video have a better sense of direction I will use either a medium or long shots within my music video. Preferably so that there is a vast background in front of the subject in the frame so that it looks like the person in the frame is gazing into the distance of something that is worthy of looking at. I will probably use this shots looking safely in the distance near off a cliff and/or into the distance of a forest. In the music video I will use extreme and regular close-up shots of masks. I will probably also have a slight pan from left to right or the platter at so that the imagery of the shot feel professional and smooth, and I also might incline the height of the camera from a low angel so it feels more cinematic of a shot within the music video.
  • 31. RIP-O- MATIC You should also construct a 15-20second Rip-o-matic test reel using existing footage to convey the type of video you want to make This RIP-O-MATIC that I have produced is a short overview of what my music video would vaguely look like…
  • 32. STRUCTURAL BREAKDOWNAt the start of the track it starts of with a subtle beat with rap over it so I will add some slow motion shots of cars, close up camera shots of masks and a drone shot over a lake or some trees at the start to kick the music video off so that it catches the viewers attention in the intro of the music video. Finally, after recording these shots, I will continue to put the mp4 files orderly into the adobe editing software's timeline so that I can begin to add title/lyric text and visual effects onto the videos. At 0:17 the beat comes in an that is where I will cut to the part where I’ll be miming the lyrics at various locations at Sutton Bank and around areas of Thirsk. When the beat comes in, the speed of my clips will need to speed up from the beginning after the cut from the beat because the overall beat and rapping starts to speed up so I will need to sync the tempo of the video to the song so that they match thus be complimentary to each other, which will make the flow and the feel of the music video better altogether. Also, when the beat comes in, I will add a shake, motion blur and a color flash so that it enhances the beat when it comes in to make it feel explosive and hard-hitting in the music video. As the music video continues from the start, I will add green screen effects when editing, such as smashed glass when I throw a gun gesture out so that it looks like I'm shooting the screen and I will also add a slight shake as well so that it will add to the effect. I will also use water splashes and fire green screens for transitions on the beat to add more effects onto my music video so that it looks more visually stimulating & interesting within the music video. As well-as a green screen I will also record a still frame of the woods with trees within the frame so that I can mask-out parts of the layers in the edit software so that it will look like someone entering past a tree and someone else coming out of the other side which would look cool is executed well. When it get near the middle and the end of the song, I will use the more cinematic long shots that I will record at Sutton Bank at the lake, trees & and cliff and more visual effects so that the music video feels like it is building up to something to make it more interesting to watch and listen to rather then to have the music video being flat thought out it’s play.
  • 33. STORYBOARDING Your storyboard should bring your idea to life Provide an idea of the sequencing of you video Provides a basis for production Suggested online storyboard creators are:  https://www.storyboardthat.com  http://www.pixton.com [very complicated]  http://www.storyjumper.com [allows you to insert your own images] Alternatively, hand draw or photograph your storyboard and scan or copy to insert it onto your slides There are lots of tips collected together on Blackboard!
  • 34. STORYBOARDIN G At the start will use close up moving slow motion shots of masks. Then I will use slow motion shots of cars which will be a mix of close ups, medium & long shots. After that, the clip before the beat comes in, I will implement a long shot, high angled drone shot which will go over a lake and forestland. When the beat comes in, it will cut to me and my piers miming and dancing to the song in various locations with visual effects bouncing around the frame of the music video. Then, I will continue to add visual effects, such as green screen effects like smashed screens, fire popping for a transition and many other visual effect throughout the music video in the right amounts so Within the music video, I will add a part where I will use a stable camera to record tree so that I make the illusion that someone is walking in and another person walks out of the At the end of my music video, I will use cinematic drone shots of the cliff at Sutton Bank and a country road with a car in the frame, which is where the video fades to black which will mark the end of the video.

  • 39. LOCATIONS Sutton Bank: Cliff, Lake, Forest, Paths. Jacks house & Jack’s mates house, garden and barn. Country roads near Thirk and Sessay. Thirk motorway bridge.
  • 40. RISK ASSESSMENT Risk Assess each separate filming location using the table in the camera H&S PP on Bb as a staring point Completing a generic filming assessment would be a start, then you can add specialist/site specific risks as you progress your production Remember, a Risk Assessment is an ongoing document, you should evaluate if anything changes in production and when you put control measures in place You should add the table to each call sheet for each location
  • 41. RISK ASSESSMEN TI will need to take some precautions into account when going out to film because there will be risks when filming in various areas around where I am going when filming for the music video. One obvious risk would be to not record in areas that I am not allow to record in. For example, areas where I haven't had permission to record at like fields and buildings that aren’t open to the public to go in. Also I will need to be carful near Sutton Bank because there is a cliff edge, which would be fatal if fell of it so I will need to stay as safely away from the edge as I can, in order so that I can not die or become seriously injured. At the lake at Sutton Bank, I need to make sure that I don’t fall into the water because that would make me wet and could be risky to the project because it could be detrimental to the recording process because I might have to go home to change my clothes and I also may because extremely cold if the temperature is low, which could cause me to become hyper thermic, so I will need to take fall into a lake into consideration for those physiological and work-related reason. In terms of equipment, I would need to be extra carful because I don’t want to damage and/or lose and equipment because they are expensive, not mine and it will disrupt the filming for the music video because I might potentially not have enough clips, which would be another risk to take into consideration. To prevent this I will need to make sure that my equipment is locked into place when I’m using the tripod, make sure that I don’t put my tripod in an unstable ground and overall respect the equipment being used, as in I would need to be sensible with them and not mess around with the instruments for my recoding of the music video. Also there could potentially be fire used in the music video on a patio in a controlled setting, so I will need to have water in case of an emergency and make sure that there is nothing flammable near by, if possible to prevent any explosions and/or fires.
  • 42. CONTINGENCY PLANNING Things go wrong Your contingency plan is there to give you a backup or to minimise the effect on production You should consider the following areas: Technical, Location, Personnel and Organisational areas [about 5 potential issues for each] Use the form in pre-production folder on Blackboard
  • 43. CONTINGENCY PLAN When I go out to record, the tripod doesn't work because its broken, I will need to improvise by use the stabilizer instead, throughout the music video so that I can at least go steady shots of scenery and of the crew within the music video, so that the video doesn't look shake because shaky videos doesn’t look good. And the same applies if the stabilizer is broken as well. If I am unable to get a drone shots for the video because we cant get the drone for the music video or the drone is broken, I will need to fill-in the spaces where there would be a drone with something different, like some panning high long shots of the Yorkshire countryside or something so that I don’t have any empty spaces. If certain locations, like at Sutton bank, are closed due to various reasons like flooding or car crashes, I may have to go to another location instead, so that I can get the footage I will need for my music video. If one of my crew members are away or can't get to the music video shooting, then I'll will have to do my best to get the music video done with the people and equipment, that I have available. Before I go out to record, I will sort out with the crew, who will bring the equipment home, so that the crew is organized so that we don’t lose and know who has what equipment so that one person doesn’t carry round all the equipment. If the weather is too extreme (Lightning, heavy rain, hale etc.), then I have to abort the recording, but I will keep my eyes on the weather on websites like google, bbc and met office so that I have knowledge of what the climate will be in the future.
  • 44. PRODUCTION SCHEDULE Provide an outline of what you will do on which days during production You should broadly plan to the following structure: - 2 weeks pre-production - 1 week filming [plan for up to 2 days] - 2 weeks editing [essentially 2 days for every day you filmed]
  • 45. SCHEDU LE - 2 weeks pre-production. Throughout the 2 weeks of pre-production, I will thoroughly plan-out what I will do for my music video and what specific elements will be used within it. - I will probably film on October 17th, 18th & 19th. Within these days, I will first film the main shots for the music videos, like the miming on the first day so that I can get them out of the way thus make time in the future for the drone shots and other smaller and larger shots from the music video so that I know what I am doing on what days. - I will be editing for 2 weeks on the adobe editing software's premier pro and after effects so that I can efficiently edit my footage so that I can complete my music video for the project. At the start, I will begin importing my footage into my editing software so that I can place the clips orderly onto the timeline. Then I will begin syncing the clips with the beat via placing the clips in a way that will make the clips cut to one another on the beat so that the video transitions alongside the song. Once I have sorted out the arrangements of the clips on the timeline with the song, I will start editing the clips from the beginning of the timeline in the editing software and work my way up the timeline by adding various effects to compliment the song thus making the overall music video feel richer, more stylistic and authentic to watch. I will edit from the 28-31st of
