4. RESEARCH & IDEA
GENERATION
Nirvana- come as you are
Idea1: Introduction, in the introduction of the music video
there is a gun sinking in a swimming pool as the guitar intro
plays and as it cuts back to the band. The gun creates a very
menacing and intriguing atmosphere for the music video.
Idea 2: there are cuts to videos of germs under a
microscope which seems almost random but it fits the
aesthetic of the band and video being very random but
almost deliberate to the music video which this keeps
building and for the strange random things going on to
make sense. With the song being called come as you are it
could be to say be you.
Idea 3: general theme of water throughout the music video
there is a water running down effect over the camera to
distort this on shot of Kurt looking directly at the camera.
There is also water running out of a pipe in the background
of most shots also the gun in the pool and the baby in the
pool as well.
5. RESEARCH
Watch a selection of videos to get your ideas started,
make note of a minimum of 5 – add extra slides,
screenshot the video and in bullet point note down info
in terms of camera, editing, art design, performance, etc
and how this might link to your production
Hint!
You’ve already done this in
your case study, so you can
summarise that here where
relevant
6. DEFTONES-CHANGES
•Opening established the settings where all its
recorded.(shown without people)
•Focuses on lead singer zooms onto him in an empty room.
•Zoom out of lead singer and people in the once empty room
filled making it uncomfortable with the amount of people
and with most of them laying down it makes it more
uncomfortable.
•Desaturated filter over the footage this makes sense with
the tone of the song and the rubbish all over the floor and
the sad looking people
•Cuts jump from one to the other quickly showing what is
going on in each room.
•Focuses on dirt and rubbish on the floor.
•Lots of actors adding to the feeling of claustrophobia with
the amount of people in the room.
7. CITY MORGUE-THE FALL
BEFORE THE GIVE UP
•3d objects put in front of artists
•Camera focuses heavily on the artist making surroundings burred
•2 sets used for the video with one dark with purple and green lights
with cages with girls covered in blood. The other being a white crate
well lit with lights at the back.
•Shifts focus very quickly to shots.
•Blur transition from shots which gives the video a flow that feels a lot
more natural for the videos progression.
•Different lights used in background to disorient the viewer the lights
being uncommon but also the room being just generally dark makes
the distortion.
•Side shots makes the video feel more rounded makes video feel more
natural
•Camera spins around adding to the disorientation
•High budget
•Heavily edited video
8. FUEL-SHIMMER
•Lead signer in car lights fade and reappear on him to
show its moving
•Whole band stood in front of green screen with a city in
the background and a green over lay over the whole
video adds to the sad tone of the song.
•Fading light throughout the whole video this is done for
the title of the shimmer. It also adds a horror feel this
the light fading away.
•Jump cuts to to a dog, mother holding a baby and a
statue.
•Camera can’t focus on dog then is dragged away making
surroundings blurred. This could be a reference to the
singer losing his dog but it died.
•Camera intentionally struggles to focus on things as if
they are a fading memory.
9. NASCAR ALOE- HEAVEN PART
2
•Video is very grainy making the video look retro
•Flashing lights in the background makes a very punkish look for
the video
•Low budget recorded in flat
•Zooms in on cigarette burning
•Lots of distortion gives the video a very dirty and grime feel to the
video
•Red LEDs used giving the video a very messy feel to it
•Static used for transitions from shot to shot making it feel like it is
found footage
•Hand against the glass of a door making it look very ominious and
reminding of a horror movie
10. TRIPPIE RED- SNAKE SKIN
•High budget
•Set (whole street)
•Lots of actors painted in red making the artist stand out
from everyone else in the video.
•Has artist moving at normal time whilst time lapse is played
behind him. This was done by a green screen allowing the
time lapse to play behind him.
•Camera always moving it never is fixed on one point.
•Lots of effects used for example it goes black and white
with only the artist in the video.
•Camera attached to artist following him. A chest rig holding
it in place watching things behind him pass.
11. CITY MORGUE THE ELECTRIC
EXPERIENCE
•Intro showing clips of the video
•More cuts the further into the video
•Two places where shots were taken the outside of the
house and back of pick up truck
•Very simple
•No sets
•Clean but simple transition between each artist
• 360 shot around artist
12. SHAKEWELL LEGLOCK
•Artist is always staring at camera whilst rapping
•Lots going on around him
•The video is meant to be funny
•Lots of different sets and places
•Lots of actors
•Camera always fixed
•
13. POTENTIAL SONGS
A Love You’ll Never Know-The Wytches
•Very slow and calm song
Madonna Rocket- Show Me The Body
•Aggressive and fast
IAMGOD- Cameron Azi (I would prefer to do this one)
•Fast and aggressive
Out of Order- Thr13tn
•Slow and sad
Monkey Gone to Heaven- Pixies
•Medium and calm
14. POTENTIAL TECHNIQUES
•Close up shots of performers- used a lot in professional music
videos
•Fast and quick transitions- transitions can set the pace of the
songs
•Time lapses- used to show change
•Distortion- gives the video an older appearance
•Motion blur- used as a transition or to show a first person
perspective
•Static- gives a retro aesthetic to the video
•Camera always moving- the camera is never fixed which gives
more life to the music video
•Panning shots- used to establish a setting or surroundings
•Focus on small details e.g. ants on the ground
•Sharp transitions to other shots- jump cuts are used in faster
paced videos but have to be used properly if not they can make a
video look very bad.
15. CONVENTIONS YOU PLAN TO
USE
• Fast pace- this fits the theme of the rock genre which it is apart of. The face pace
can be achieved through editing with jumping from clip to clip, it can also be
achieved through camera work and a lot of movement
• Distortion- this fits the style of the music with it being very dark and raw. The
distortion can be achieved through editing and also the camera since I will b
using my phone it will already make the footage look grainy therefore bringing
down the quality of the video.
• Dark themes- dark themes are conveyed through the music lyrics. These can be
represented in music videos with editing in something negative for example a dog
barking it can also be shown in a music video through the camera with shots of
destroyed things for example a fallen tree.
• Fast and aggressive movements- this is seen in a lot of music videos with jolting
movements. This can only be shown through the movement of the actor/artist
these can be done through choreography.
• Multiple locations- this is done to keep the view enticed since the change of
settings keeps the views attention. It also makes the video look more
professional.
• Different clothing- this is done in similar way to the locations it keeps the viewers
attention to the video, it is refreshing and also makes the video look more
professional.
• Convey the emotion of the song- this can be done through the chorography and
editing for example angry song would be conveyed through harsh movements
and fast actions.
18. SUMMARY
5 restrictions
1. Time to edit
2. Time to get footage
3. Using phone camera
4. Moving clothing from location to location
5. Quality down graded with worse camera
19. FINAL IDEA –
ARTIST/TITLE/INFO
IAMGOD- Cameron Azi
Cameron Azi is a New York artist he grew up listening to
rap, rock and metal growing up and mixed all those styles
of music together to make most of his music but he has
been known to do just rap songs and just rock songs which
“IAMGOD” is.
Cameron Azi makes most of his songs with $ubjetz who is a
co founder of GCSY there label. They have make songs like
“BORN OUT THE PIT” and “LEFT 4 DEAD”. Cameron Azi’s
biggest artist that he has worked with is ZillaKami another
New York based artist with there most famous song being
“AREYOUREADYKIDS?” which has over 1million plays on
soundcloud.
Cameron Azi got his name from his first name “Cameron”
and “Azi” which is a roman verb which means “To know”. He
makes alternative music with dark topic s spoken in his
tracks, he is also co founder of his label GCSY.
20. FINAL IDEA – TRACK
SUMMARY
“IAMGOD” is a track about blocking out people who go
against your beliefs and taking control of your life and
choice, essential making you your own god.
Blocking out negative people is seen in the lyrics when he
says “I can’t hear you anymore” showing that he once had
negative in fluence in his life from other people showing
that he got rid of them. Also he references to being his own
god in his lyrics saying “I live my life till I’m bored I play god
and make it pour” showing that he believes that he can
choose when his life ends and it is not decide by anything
else. The lyrics also show a sense of madness where he just
talks about something then very quickly shifts his focus
making him sound almost possessed by something.
The track doesn’t last that long only 1:30. The length of the
chorus is long but eat verse moves quickly likes he’s trying
to give us all this information at once and it fits the pace of
a rock song with long choruses and fast verses but with a
very dark theme to the whole thing.
21. FINAL IDEA – YOUR IDEA
The video will open with the camera running facing down
onto a path camera pans upwards and looks at friend
standing there. Once the drop happens he will be slown
down and kick over a rotting tree and then it will jump
between the same scene from a different angle. During
the first verse cuts my friend doing actions towards the
camera and jump cuts to stock footage of a dog barking
then he does more actions then it jump cuts to a rotten
tree trunk being stamped on then goes back to my friend
doing actions then dirt dirt being kicked towards the
camera then comes back to the actions then jump cuts to
him then goes back to main actions then jump cuts
stamps on login reverse goes back to amin actions then
pans upwards at the end of the verse. Chorus starts again
cut back to tree falling over jump cuts between my friend
and the tree falling and friend stumbling and falling at the
same time as the tree multiple different things happen
after fall reverse and distorted images with barking dog .
23. TITLE OF
PRODUCTION/PRODUCTION
OUTLINE
Summary of intended production
I am going to make a music video for the song “IAMGOD” by
Cameron Azi. The intended out come of the music video is
to show my interpretation of the song and expressing it
through the music video using my friend and and costumes
that I have, the setting being multiple different locations
(mostly forests). My interpretation of the song is to take
back control of your life showing you will do and create
what you want and not be influenced by what others are
doing, the music also sound like the artist is possessed and
from jumping from topic to topic conveying that he can’t
get all the words out at once but it always comes back to
the same topic of of the chorus of blocking people out. The
pace of the song is quite fast on the verses and then it
slows down for the chorus fitting the rock genre. The mood
wis very angry and crazed. The tone is aggressive with very
distorted vocals fitting the rock genre. The equipment I will
be using is my phone to get the footage and the mac’s at
college to edit the videos.
24. LOCATIONS
The locations that I will be using are all within walking
distance of my house and my friends so transportation
will not be an issue. The places we are going are public
locations but are also very empty so no one else will be
seen in the background of the video. There is no cost for
the location. The weather should be preferably cloudy but
it does not effect the video that much considering the
location is a forest. Also the ground being dry will make
the video easier to record but it will not effect the video
that much.
The locations I will be using are a forest with rotting trees
which are important to some the shots. The other location
is another forested with a bike park made out of dirt this
location will be used for more close up shots since the
surroundings aren’t that important to the video. A cycle
path will also be used for panning shots.
25. EQUIPMENT
I will be using my phone to get the footage because of
the corona virus so I do not need to hire a camera from
college but I will use the mac’s and premiere pro to edit
the footage and to actually create the video I will do this
during the week when I am at school and meant to editing
the video. I will upload the footage from my phone to my
one drive and also save it onto some memory sticks just
to back it up.
26. FACILITIES
I will use the college mac’s and premiere pro to edit the
video and I won’t need any other specialist facilities. I will
upload the footage onto my one drive to get the footage
onto the mac. I am not used to using premiere pro but
with my few times using it I understand it on a base level
and it is every simple to use for a new user.
27. PERSONNEL
I don’t have a crew to help me I am doing the recording
and editing by myself. This is because the song only
lasts for 1:30 which means it shouldn’t take as long to
make if everything goes according to plan.
My cast is my friend he available most days of the week
but he is manly available on Saturday which is when most
of the footage will be gathered he lives in the same area
as me and we both live in walking distance of the
locations so he doesn’t need transporting and I won’t
have to him since we will both go home for food. They
are no cost implications with using my friend.
28. PROPS/COSTUME/ETC
The costumes I already have and are based off tech wear
the costume shouldn’t be too hard to transport. The
costume isn’t very heavy but has a lot of parts to it. Also
multiple costumes will be worn at different times so a lot
of clothes have to moved around but if me and my friend
dived the work then it shouldn’t be too hard. Non of the
costumes where bought for the music video.

43. LOCATIONS
My two locations have been chosen because
they are both in private areas but are also
public spaces because not many people go in
them. The top picture is the main location for
the most of the recording with it being the
biggest location. The second location is a back
up plan if we cannot get to the first location
but it will still be used if we can get to the first
location. The third picture is where the
introduction of the video will be recorded and
will be the third backup if the first and last
location are inaccessible.

46. SCHEDULE
I will spend 6 hours editing the video in college and I will spend
4 hours recording the footage. The 4 hours will be split
between Saturday 10th and Saturday 17th this means I will
spend 2 hours each Saturday recording the footage. Then the 6
hours of recording will be spilt over the week at college this
will allow me to plan out each way the music video goes.
47. CLEARANCE AND
PERMISSIONS
I am recording in a public place so I don’t permission to
go or record there and my friend has verbally agreed to
be recorded and act for the video.
