The School Of Residential Schools
This text in relation to my own life has many comparing and contrasting ideas and opinions written
throughout the stories and testimonies of the students of residential schools. First off, this text does
have components that relate to me personally in regards to the ideals put forth by the staff at
residential schools and attempt to convert the students to Christianity. I have been raised in a Christian
home and brought up under Christian ways of acting and thinking in my everyday life. The attempt
that the White people in the residential schools took to convert the Native children does not relate to
me, however after the conversion was completed and the lives of those children changed to
Christianity, I can relate to those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We were always hungry (Miller, pg. 290), is another concise indication that students were mistreated
and unimportant in the schools. Many issues surrounding providing food to the students as I ve
previously mentioned is wrong, however one idea that in my own opinion is very unfair to the
students is when the missionaries provid[ed] themselves with separate eating facilities and food
superior to that served to the children (Miller, pg. 292), simply to make it aware that they were of
more importance than the children within the school. Although the residential schools provided a
home for children whose families could not properly provide for them, the ideals and practices behind
the residential schools is not how a human being should be treated or nurtured, making the schools
very unfit for children to attend. My opinions of residential schools before reading this article were
similar to the information provided; mistreatment, poor quality health care and food, trying to change
their religion and culture, etc. However, the article failed to change my opinion of residential schools
and instead heightened my idea that residential schools should have never existed. For example,
students were sent to these schools to be provided with the necessary means to live a dignified life and

T Cell Lab Report
Human immunodeficiency virus is a retrovirus that affects the T cells specifically to the immune
system. In spite of, lowering the immunity of humans and claiming the lives of many people around
world. H.I.V replication is a multi stage process and every step is necessary to complete its process. (
T Cell ) In step one, the entry of the virus requires certain receptors from the host cell such as a CD4.
In addition, these receptors are composed of two glycoproteins that are embedded in the viral
envelope. ( Kestens, P. ) By approaching the target, the cells of a gp120 connects to the CD4 receptors
and the transmembrane gp41 is capable of transferring its information into the cell membrane.
Uniquely, this process creates a pathway for the virus to fuse with the host cell. When it enters the cell
it breaks open and releasing two viral RNA strands and three essential replication enzymes. ... Show

One strand of the RNA is transcribed into a RNA DNA double helix, whereas the breakdown of RNA
uses ribonuclease H. Without delay, polymerase completes the cycle with the other DNA strand to
form a double helix. Soon after the complication of the polymerase the next enzymes, integrase, takes
over. This enzyme is required to cut the end of every third prime and then transfer the DNA into the
nucleus. As a result, of combining with the host cell genome that now contains the genetic information
of HIV. The cytoplasm gets invaded by the messenger RNA where new viruses are synthesized.
Protease, one of the last of the enzymes, helps create the infectious virus. Finally, when the virus
becomes mature by the RNA strands and enzymes they come together and form the capsid. It would
leave the host cell ready to infect other cells and replicate by billions per day. ( How HIV Infects a

Synthesize Of Acetanilide Between Aniline And Acetic Anhydr
Introduction
Ways to Synthesize Acetanilide
The goal of this experiment was to synthesize acetanilide form aniline and acetic anhydride. Even
though this was the reactants used in the laboratory, there are other reactions that would result in the
same compound. One way to produce acetanilide is to use aniline but to replace the acetic anhydride
with acetonitrile and add deionized water. Even though this reaction has a ninety eight percent yield,
the consequence is that the reactants need to be heated to 60o Celsius for forty minutes.1 Another way
to create acetanilide is to use 4 (phenylamino) 3 Penten 2 one with oxygen gas. For this process
sulfuric acid and Silica must be used as catalysts. The reacting solution must be heated at 120o Celsius
for 10 hours.1 This undesirable reaction would only have a ninety six percent yield.1 The reaction
conducted in the Organic Chemistry Laboratory has an one hundred percent potential yield.1 The
route used for the laboratory was used for the high yield potential, the shorter length of the synthesis,
and also because heating the reaction mixture was not required. This method has a potential yield
because it is possible to have a one hundred percent yield when the reaction goes to completion and no
product is lost. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When cooling the acetanilide solution pure acetanilide crystals are formed. During the vacuum
filtration, the acetanilide crystals that were caught in the funnel are washed by ice cold deionized
water. Recrystallization is used as a purification method because impurities would not solidify with
the crystal and can be easily washed away in the vacuum filtration once the crystal is

A Multiple Regression Analysis Is Used To Determine The
A multiple regression analysis is used to determine the relationship or association between
independent variables (IVs), also known as predictor variables, and a dependent variable (DV) (Sen
Srivastava, 2012). The purpose of the report is to summarize and analyze the Virginia Hospitals data
from 2005 to determine run a multiple regression model against multiple predictor variables and
determine statistical significance between the various hospital variables (i.e. independent variables)
and the Total Operating Expense (TOE). A multiple linear regression was calculated to predict the DV
(i.e.Total Operating Expense_05) based on the IVs (i.e. Staffed beds_05, Medicare Days_05, Medicaid

For the Staffed beds_05, the hypothesis is that the number of staffed beds has a positive association
(β1 0) with TOE; staffed beds require regular care and maintenance, so an increase in staffed bed
increases TOE (Villa Kane, 2013). For the Medicare Days_05, the hypothesis is that Medicare days
have a negative association (β2 0) with TOE; Medicare days affect the hospital s revenue based on
Medicare coverage, and so, an increase in Medicare days decreases TOE (Villa Kane, 2013). For the
Medicaid Days_05, the hypothesis is that Medicaid days have a negative association (β3 0) with TOE
because Medicaid days increases the hospital s expenses/bad debt; therefore an increase in Medicaid
days decreases TOE (Villa Kane, 2013). For the Total Surgeries_05, the hypothesis is that total
surgeries have a positive association (β4 0) with TOE as surgical procedures incur costs with the use
of specific/specialized drugs and equipment and post operative care; therefore, as total surgeries
increase, TOE increases (Fay, 2016). For the RN FTE_05, the hypothesis is that RN FTE has a
positive association (β5 0) with TOE as increasing the level of nurse staffing, especially full time
(FTE) registered nurses (RN), increases TOE due to the salary payment (Investopedia, 2014). For the
Occupancy, the hypothesis is that occupancy has a positive association (β6 0) with

Tax Lien Investing In Real Estate
It is still possible to make money with real estate. Despite the housing market problems of the last
several years, there are still ways to invest and earn an income with properties. While many people
immediately think of rental properties as offering steady income, there is also tax lien investing.
Although some infomercials make it seem that you can own a property by just buying the tax lien, the
reality is that property tax lien investing is far more complicated than those infomercials want you to
believe. What is Tax Lien Investing? Owners of real estate have to pay annual property taxes. These
taxes pay for community services and social programs. The county depends on this money. If a

How to Learn About Tax Lien Investing There are late night infomercials offering systems about how
to make a lot of money with tax liens. Although these systems make it seem easy and simple to get a
house just by paying the overdue property taxes, tax lien investing can be complicated and drawn out,
especially if you decide to foreclose. And with so many programs available to help homeowners
facing foreclosure, there is no guarantee the foreclosure will go through. The most an investor should
hope for is to get back the invested money plus interest. Because tax lien investing is such a complex
process, the only way for investors to really be successful is to learn the laws about property tax liens
for their state. It is a good idea for would be investors to contact the country clerk s office or other
government agency in their state and request information on the tax lien auction process. With tax lien
investing, investors get a high rate of return for a few years while county governments get the money
they need. This type of investment is not for everyone and it is certainly not a get rich quick scheme.
For informed investors with patience, tax lien investing can be a good way to make a fixed income

The Pros And Cons Of Game Wardens
Game Wardens also known as, Conservation Officers and they are the law enforcement officers.
Instead of patrolling the urban streets, they are out in the wilderness patrolling the untamed land.
Conservation Officers sometimes start their days of before sunrise, and sometime they don t get off
after sun down. Conservation Officers spend a tremendous of time in the field, enforcing wildlife
laws, patrol their divisions they are assign to, and prosecute those who violate hunting laws. They
work 24/7, and are always on call; which mean they provide a professional service, yet it is not a
formally on duty. They re also are involved with search and rescue missions, must respond to
automobile collisions and conduct investigations.

Participatory Action Research Essay
Understandings of Participatory Action Research
Research is the method of intense enquiry into a particular topic/s. The ethical implications of
conduction of research ventures without properly defined values or ethical process allows for the risk
of breakdown of research structures and possible legal sanctions. This paper will aim to provide a
meaningful, in depth understanding of the research approach Participatory Action Research and its
conducive uses in relation to effective implementation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
people.
The National Health and Medical Research Council has currently a released document titled Values

First of all it is necessary to figure out what Confucian philosophy is all about. Confucianism is
philosophy that dates back to the VI century BC and carries an ethical and political character
(McDevitt, 2007). It implies the ideas related to the issues of morality, family and ways of effective
governance. Confucian is widespread in China and countries that had a cultural exchange with China.
So, along with the monuments of written Chinese came to Korea and Confucianism. According to
Confucian teachings, one of the main components of society is the family, where individual learns the
language, culture and religion (Yao, 2000). For centuries, men had greater power than women had.
This patriarchal family regime remains same in many countries nowadays as well as in Korea
(Sleziak, 2013). In ancient Korea, main unit of society was the clan that consisted of couple of
families having same parents and grandparents through male line. The preference thus was given to
men. Families followed Confucian orders that youngsters should unconditionally obey to the elders.
More than that, Confucian scholars argued that a person could learn important thing from family only.
Only in the family person could gain such important qualities as love of the country and a sense of
justice necessary for service to the state (Yao, 2000). However, this obey lessons did not relate to

Food Additives Essay
Food additives can be found in lots of food that most people consume. Although food additives can
make our food look delicious and even taste better, they contain many dangerous chemicals that may
affect our health. Food additives can cause health problems in a person s lifestyle. Many people do not
realize the harm it can cause to their bodies. There are many problems, but also solutions to this
situation. The solutions to this situation are: stay away from all kinds of additives, do not eat food that
are preservatives, read the labels carefully, and find the FDA signs. Stay Away From All Kinds of
Additives To begin with, food additives should be clearly explained and understood that food
additives are any substances found in food that is not a part of the normal ingredients. (Chris
Hayhurst, 2002) There are six kinds of additives. The six kinds are nutrients, flavoring agents,
coloring agents, preservations, emulsifiers, stabilizers, thickeners, acids and alkalis. (Graddy W.

consumer characteristics are the main factors that influences the consumer attitudes and online
shopping behavior. All the consumer benefit perception factors positively influences consumer
attitudes towards online shopping. ( Page 41). Shwu Ing Wu says that marketers must adopt new

Mary cannot be blamed for being introduced to morphine and Tyrone cannot be condemned for his
poor Irish upbringing. However, Tyrone chose to postpone dealing with his son s tuberculosis until it
was too late, which put a strain on their relationship. And, Mary voluntarily chastises her sons as a
means to distract from her erratic behavior causing a riff in their relationships. The Tyrones are the
writers of their own tragedy. They cannot blame anyone but themselves for the sorry sight that is their
reality. In Eugene O Neill s Long Day s Journey Into Night, the characters have no control over the
obstacles they face, but it s their use of deceit and aversion tactics in dealing with their state of affairs

their problems but not to an extent of actually resolving anything. It s as though the family believes
but ignoring their problems they are better helping the family, yet it is this that leads to the family s

Amateurism In College Football
Amateurism
Being a college football player, I am very well aware of the issue of to pay players or not to pay.
Obviously my situation is different, being a student here at the Naval academy, but the issue still very
much affects me. The reason players deserve compensation are painfully obvious. One, Football is a
very dangerous sport. Two, the full ride scholarships players are offered aren t exactly what they
appear to be. Three, colleges can easily afford it or enable it.
Football is dangerous , these are words heard all the time, and it s been an accepted fact for a while
now. Obviously while playing football you understand there s a risk of being injured you are facing.

Essay On Johann Sebastian Bach
Johann Sebastian Bach was born in Eisenach, Germany in 1685, as the youngest of eight children.
Bach was a product of one of the greatest musical family s, and would become one of the most
influenceial composers of all time. Bach lived in the heart of the reformation era and believe that all
music should be to the glory of God and for the recreation of the mind. His father was a great
trumpeter/violinist; his brothers were organists and keyboarders, to which Bach drew most of his
influence and education. Bach was a member of the Lutheran faith and a great fan of the works and
beliefs of Martin Luther. Bach tried to give depth and color to church music as he successfully added
dimension to God s word. With the death of his mom in 1694 and his dad one year later in 1695,
Johann Sebastian Bach found himself alone and abandoned at the age of ten. Johann Christoph, Bach s
eldest brother, took him in after the death of his parents giving him his first formal organ and keyboard

the best melodies and vocal standards from both secular and sacred music to create masterful works
all for the glory of God. Although blind in the last two years of his life he was still able to compose

Human Culture And Its Impact On The World
Introduction
Humans are one of the smartest creatures to walk on the face of the earth, and we have shaped society
in many different ways for many different cultures. From the beginning of the first civilization till
today, humans have had one common goal: how to make things better, and how to become more
efficient as well as more productive. Every revolution that took place in human history, it brought
drastic change to ways of living and of course mostly for good reasons. From the era when the wheel
was first introduced to the era when the light bulb was invented, we will agree that today s human is
by far the most advanced human in the history of mankind, and it will only get more advanced.
Business has always been a part of human culture, but overtime, doing business has become more and
more competitive. Network is crucial to business world, as doing business has become more and more
global, in order for business to stay competitive and have edge over their competitor business or any
idea has to be global. Everyday there is someone who comes out with a new idea, but most ideas don t
make it up to the level where they become part of a human life and existence. In today s world, social
media has become a part of human life and business world. Doing business anywhere in the world has
never been this easy, and staying in touch with your friends and family across the globe never felt this

Hospitals are one of the many organizations that must comply with regulations to keep patients and
staff safe and as well as maintain the quality of care. Ideally, a good care system for patients includes

Light Detection And Ranging ( Lidar )
Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) has grown to become a vital technology used in remote sensing
technology from aerial or land based platforms. Environmentalists have used LiDAR extensively in
resource mapping for conservation efforts in the past. However, one of the promising applications of
LiDAR is planning and designing of engineering projects of varying magnitudes and complexities.
Some of the outstanding drawbacks of using traditional data acquisition methods include the amount
of time spent collecting the data and the reduction of the data during processing. Such issues are
significant in engineering projects due to the corresponding cost and safety implications. Using
LiDAR from aerial platforms allows engineers to acquire and process data quickly with high levels of
accuracy as compared to the traditional methods. LiDAR involves the use of directing single laser
pulses on targets and performing an analysis on time taken to receive the reflected pulses (Finkl,
2013). The data collected helps in the determination of elevation details of an area. Additionally,
engineers can use the global positioning system (GPS) and digital photography with the LiDAR
elevation details to present accurate and comprehensive information about the desired location for a
project. The current paper focuses on the LiDAR data generated from aerial sources although several
types of data exist. Literature Review Aerial based LiDAR The aerial based platforms using

Hunting Helps the Environment Essay

peaks with the most beautiful gold, and painting the clouds rose red. The men and women who enjoy
the outdoors whether it is hunting or just hiking help make these types of moments possible. Hunting
and the ecosystem is tied closely to conservation of land and animals. The articles of Hunting and the
ecosystem written by the South Dakota Game Fish and Parks Department (SDGFP), and Facts and
statistics on wildlife conservation written by Roger Holmes, director of the Fish and Wildlife, touch on
how hunting is important in the environment to keep a good balance in the ecosystem. They also point

Hunting and ecosystem based management is the smartest and most cost effective way to manage our
wildlife. The basic idea of ecosystem based management is that you manage ecosystems rather than
specific species or disciplines. For example you do not mange pheasants as much as you manage the
ecosystem in which the pheasants live. If the ecosystem is improved, it will produce more pheasants
naturally. (1)
Hunting and hunters are the biggest advocates for conservation. They also provide for the most finical
aid of any other organization that says they sponsor the environment and wildlife. (SDGFP)(2). Such
organizations are PETA and SEIRRA. These clubs think they help the animals and the environment
because they do not kill them, but they actually do more damage. Their goal is to save the animals and
keep the woods from being touched. They hardly give any money to the conservation groups. The
reason the ecosystems have to use conservation is because we have to much human interaction with
the environment, as Roger Holmes touches on in his article. Like in small communities there is a lot
more wildlife human interaction because the expanding nation. The PETA and SEIRRA clubs have
also done nothing for the growth of the animal populations. The hunters have given new life to many
species such as; White Tailed Deer, Canadian goose, Rocky Mountain Elk, Wild Turkey, Pronghorn

the world. During this event, humans are plugged into these machines that allow them to choose any

For example, happiness is subjective and at times. According to Dan Haybron, Even as happiness
might fail to suffice for well being, well being itself may be only one component of a good life, and
not the most important one at that. Here good life means a life that is good all things considered,
taking account of all the values that matter in life, whether they benefit the individual or not
(Haybron). Perhaps a person has to consider morality before their own happiness, but at the end of
their life, they had a good life. An example of an act that a person has to consider morality before their
own happiness is the matter of divorce. They may have children, and children are greatly impacted
when their parents divorce. The person who wants the divorce cannot consider just their own
unhappiness and leave their family, but has to find a different way to be happy with their own life. Self
biased happiness is not a good reason to plug into the machine. Hedonist may have an objection that
plugging into the machine would be suicidal. According to Matthew Silverstein about the term
hedonism, The term itself is derived from the Greek word ʼnδоvή (hēdonē), meaning pleasure, and
theories are hedonistic in virtue of the central role they assign to the notion of pleasure (Silverstein, 1).
Pleasure is the key word for defining hedonism and it focuses on self indulgence. Pleasure may be

Pediatric Sarcomas Form A Heterogeneous Group Of...
Pediatric sarcomas form a heterogeneous group of mesenchymal skeletal and extraskeletal
malignancies [1]. Over the last few decades a multimodal treatment approach has improved
dramatically the prognosis for children with localized Ewing sarcomas (EWS) and rhabdomyosarcoma
(RMS) (65 70% event free survival rate) [2, 3]. Though EWS and RMS are considered radiosensitive,
the proportion of patients whose primary tumors are treated with external beam radiotherapy (EBRT)
alone has steadily declined over the past 30 years [4]. Increased awareness of the late effects of
radiotherapy (particularly second malignancies and growth disturbances) and advances in imaging and
orthopedic surgery has increased the use of surgical management for these tumors [5]. Due to the fact
that complete resection is often difficult or morbid to perform, adjuvant EBRT still plays an important
role in local control (LC) promotion [2, 3]. The challenge of achieving LC with a suitable therapeutic
ratio is especially demanding in the pediatric population and results in a very narrow therapeutic
window in which to balance benefits and late effects. The known detrimental effects of irradiating
large volumes with EBRT, impulsed limited radiation therapy alternatives such us intraoperative
radiation therapy (IORT) as an adapted technical opportunity to be explored in innovative practice [6].
Several collaborative groups are trying to determine the optimal radiation therapy dose and volume

the U.C.C. This story is replete with fascinating facts and the intricacies that are inherent in the facts
of the case make for a great story. The plaintiff bought a baseball bat from the defendant and the

Frankenstein
Some readers have seen the novel as an illustration of the fear of the power of science
To what extent do you agree with this view of the novel?
I agree to a certain extent with this view, because Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein during the
scientific revolution and therefore was influenced by many ideas and experiences of what science can
do to you and how it can represent fear and bring about a change. Victor Frankenstein grabs hold of
science and tests it boundaries as much as he can. Yet there is an element that represents his inability
to do this. He comes across as if he has no true idea of consequences or outcomes for what he is doing,
bringing a true element of fear forward for the reader to deal with. He is our unreliable ... Show more

One true Gothic element that is portrayed in this novel is the idea of the doppelganger, and although
Victor Frankenstein and the Creature look nothing alike, the Creature truly is the evil side of
Frankenstein. He brings out Victor s irresponsibility and ugliness, just like Mr Hyde brings out Dr
Jekyll ugly side. The creature takes away Frankenstein s Super Ego and leaves him with his Id.
Therefore it may be true that Frankenstein has a focus on the fear of the power of science but I do not
believe it is a true illustration of only this. So many Gothic elements come into play that sometimes
this idea of the power of science can be

What Are The Similarities Between China And Ancient Rome
Both Rome and China have similar and varying cultural aspects. Rome and China both were very
efficient cultures, which produced many new inventions that benefitted the world around them. Both
cultures were heavily influenced by their beliefs, and those beliefs also influenced the ways they
celebrated, or participated in the arts. While both cultures contributed to the world around them, both
cultures shared strong belief systems that led to cultural celebrations and artistic endeavors, they still
were very different from one another. The ancient Romans were a very productive and creative
society. They created public toilets, sewage systems, and public baths. The Romans made concrete, so
the roads and sidewalks would be leveled and smoother. If the Romans hadn t made those things then
people won t have any privacy of their own and the grounds also won t be leveled. While ancient
Rome was responsible for many creations, the ancient Chinese people were also responsible for
creating some cool stuff too. They created books with bamboo strips, and paper. They also made
gunpowder. The Chinese also made a compass, so when people get lost they can just look at the
compass and see if they are going north, south, east, and west. If the Chinese hadn t made these things

The Constitution Of The American South After The Civil War
Amendments are put in place to make changes to the U.S. Constitution to adapt a regulation or expand
on the rights of individuals and groups of people. Two amendments that play a significant role in the
United States Constitution to this very day are the 13th and 14th amendments. These amendments are
known as the reconstruction amendments because the documents were important in implementing the
Reconstruction of the American South after the Civil War. Their advocates saw them as transforming
the United States from a country that was half slave and half free to one in which the constitution
guaranteed blessings of liberty which extended to the entire populace, including the former slaves and
their descendants. The Thirteenth Amendment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A clause is a sentence in any part of our constitution. Firstly, is the citizenship Clause which gives
individual born in the United States, but especially at that time, African Americans the right to
citizenship. Secondly, the due process clause which protects the 1st amendment rights of the people
and prevents those rights from being taken away by any government without due process. Due process
is a trial by jury for all people accused of wrongdoing. Lastly, equal protection clause is the part of the
fourteenth amendment which states that there may be no discrimination against people by the law. By
directly mentioning the role of the states, the 14th Amendment greatly expanded the protection of civil
rights to all Americans.
Another essential point, was President Abraham Lincoln s position on slavery, which is one of the
central issues in American history. Lincoln often expressed disapproval towards slavery. When the
American Civil War began in 1861, President Abraham Lincoln carefully outlined the conflict of the
abolition of slavery. On September 22, soon after the Union victory at the Battle of Antietam in

Diverse Role Of Questioning And Dialogic Work In Mathematics
The use of questioning and paired work in Mathematics Traditionally, mathematics and language
based subjects have been seen as occurring on opposite sides of a great divide. However, in recent
years teachers have realised the importance of talk across the curriculum including mathematics. This
is supported by the DfEE (1999a, p11) who state that high quality interactive teaching is oral,

Luther Standing Bear s account of his life growing up as a Sioux Native American amidst a nation
flourishing with change is a powerful and poignant narrative that draws us deeper into the history of
The United States. My People the Sioux and the life of Luther Standing Bear are both crucial in
examining the positive connotations of Indian Boarding Schools and the use of education to challenge
the inferiority complex surrounding Native Americans. Luther Standing Bear was born in December
of 1868 and this autobiography was completed on July 25, 1927. Encompassing the end of
reconstruction, the industrial revolution, and the start of the Indian Boarding schools, Standing Bear s
life provides a deep context into the lives of Native Americans. His entire purpose for writing this
autobiography is to provide an account of the Native Americans, from the actual viewpoint of Native
Americans, which previously to his account, were few and far between. This autobiography was
intended, at the time, for whites who did not know about the lives of Native Americans and for all
people who saw Native Americans as inferior. Today it lives on to serve as a historical reference for
what Native Americans endured and how they lived during this time period rich in history. The
traditional views of Native Americans during this time were that they were lazy and inferior to whites.
Towards the end of his life, Standing Bear would become involved in the Native American Rights

case of diabetes is simply unacceptable. I enjoyed educating and motivating these kids to make
beneficial lifestyle changes, so that good health rather than disease can help to define their futures, as

While I started my volunteer educational program, another man was well ensconced in his own. Al

ecologically friendly, and often healthier lives. I have seen that with just a few adjustments, I can
control my diabetes to the point where most people do not even know I have it. Likewise, I believe
that if we commit to making fundamental changes in the way we go about our lives, we can easily

Color And The Perception Of Color
Color and the Perception of Color
Cynthia Xu
Stoller Middle School
Perception. The ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through one of the five senses
(Kandel, Schwartz, Jessell, 2000). In other words, it is the process of interpreting and organizing
sensory information. Perception must be understood according to figure ground, similarity, proximity,
continuity, and other organizing principles. At work in the interpretation of sensory stimuli are other
perceptual phenomena such as perceptual constancy, a phenomenon which occurs in the perception of
size, shape, color, and brightness; depth perception, another phenomenon based on binocular and
monocular cues; and the perception of motion (Wood, 2008). One of the brain s primary functions is
to obtain biologically important information from the various sensory inputs. The brain of a human is
provided with sufficient information about a variety of things such as light, sound, the atmosphere s
chemical composition, temperature, and things such as head orientation, limb position, the chemical
composition of the bloodstream, among other things. Specialized sensors project signals into the brain
when they detect sensory modalities. Light sensitive neurons in the retina of the eye, vibration
sensitive neurons in the cochlea of the ear, along with the pressure sensitive neurons in the skin are all
specialized receptor cells of which each sensory system begins with. The axons of the sensory receptor

Challenges In Behold The Dreamers
Not only do adolescents face challenges in the city of Woodburn, but so do parents and any immigrant
individual. In chapter twenty of Behold the Dreamers Jende and Neni get in argument because Liomi
heard his mom on the phone saying that they were returning to Cameroon, the country they escaped

you think? You think we should tell a child his father might be deported? You want Liomi to know
what s happening to me? (Mbue, 2016, p. 128). Jende s and Neni s fear of immigration is definitely a
fear many immigrant families have always had in the city of Woodburn for many years. these families
are scared to be separated and to come to an end in their American Dream . Neni and Jende fear for
their son because they want him to get a good education and to grow up in a country with

Payment System And The System Essay
According to Borio and van den Bergh (1993:8), a payment system may be defined as the set of
arrangements for the discharge of the obligations assumed by economic agents whenever they acquire
real or financial resources. The history of payment systems has been driven by the pressure to
facilitate the execution of transactions. Although payments systems differ considerably from country
to country, the major participants, as well as the key features of the settlement media and mechanisms,
are quite similar. In line with Borio and van den Bergh on the evolution of payments systems (1993:8),
Bhiri, Vhimisai and Bayai (2014:412) stated that payments systems have evolved over the years in
tandem with the quantum leap in the volume and value of the payment system transactions. The
researcher sought to analyse the reasons why there were payment transaction failures due to the
systems being used by the financial institution where the researcher is employed. Oliveira and Martins
(2011:110) stated that IT is universally regarded as an essential tool in enhancing the competitiveness
of the economy of a country. It is commonly accepted today that IT has significant effects on the
productivity of firms. Oliveira and Martins (2011:10) further explained that it is crucial to understand
the determinants of IT adoption and the theoretical models that are raised when addressing IT
adoption. In their study, Oliveira and Martins (2011:110) revealed that they reviewed two prominent

The year 1877 is considered the year that ended Reconstruction mainly because of the actions that
took place after the election of Rutherford B. Hayes. Initially, it looked as if Democrat Samuel Tilden
had won the election. Tilden had the majority in the popular vote but had only ended with 184 out of a
needed 185 electoral votes. Three southern states had disputed returns during this election and their
electoral votes had not been accounted for yet. This led to a few months of both parties trying to claim
the remaining electoral votes. This brings us to the the Compromise of 1877. This let Hayes have the
presidency and in return the southern states had control over their governments along with some vague

There was a lot of violence that hd happened in the years prior to the election primarily the years 1874
1876. This surge of political violence could be the reaction to the results of the 1872 election which
left a Republican in charge. The people participating and leading these violent action believed that
they were doing the right thing in trying to regain white supremacy. In a religious metaphor that
matched their view of the Civil War as a lost crusade, southern Democrats called their victory
Redemption and depicted themselves as Redeemers, holy warriors who had saved the South from the
hell of black Republican rule. (Goldfield, 16.5) There were instances in which white persons joined
together in an effort of intimaidation and were mostly successful in overthrowing back politicians as
well as scaring black voters away from the polls. One example that had a profound impact was that of

International Law And Nuclear Weapons
Internationally, nuclear weapons have been an important topic of concern and debate for the past
several decades. The concerns and debates within the international community regarding the
proliferation of nuclear weapons to more sovereign states in the post Cold War era have led to many
international law instruments in attempts to contain these weapons of mass destruction. Treaties such
as the Treaty on the Non Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and the Test Ban Treaty of 1963,
international organizations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and the Korean
Peninsula Energy Development Organization (KEDO), along with United Nations Security Council
resolutions and advisory opinions from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) have all played roles in
attempting to contain and reduce nuclear weapons in the international community. However, have
these treaties, advisory opinions, resolutions, and creation of international organizations been effective
in curtailing sovereign states from obtaining and testing nuclear weapons? This paper will highlight
the relationship between specific instruments of International Law pertaining to nuclear weapons
through a case study of North Korea to show that instruments of International Law in particular, such
as the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Agency (KEDO), the International Atomic Energy
Agency (IAEA), along with United States and United Nations economic restrictions, have been

Theodore Roosevelt s Influence On Latin America
Theodore Roosevelt was a President known for a very dynamic and progressive administration, and
his foreign policy in Latin America was no exception. His policies in Latin America were beneficial
for the rapidly growing United States, but left an impact on Latin America that was both positive and
negative. President Roosevelt took past policies of the United States, such as the unenforced Monroe
Doctrine of 1823, and amended them to have the backing of the Navy in the early 1900s. One
particular amendment was called the Platt Amendment of 1901, and opened the door to United States
expansionism under President Roosevelt. It was under this amendment that Cuba quickly became the
foundation for the new Latin American policies of the United States. The Roosevelt Corollary was
another important part of Roosevelt s Latin American foreign policy. Roosevelt believed that Latin
America was quite vulnerable to European expansionism, and added his Corollary to the Monroe
Doctrine which stated that should the Europeans attack, and should any Latin American nation engage
in chronic wrongdoing such as outstanding debt, then the United States would intervene on their
behalf. In essence, Europe would remain where it was, while the United States controlled the entire
Western Hemisphere. The opportunity came for Roosevelt to implement this policy during the
invasion of the Dominican Republic by European debt collectors, and Venezuelan Crisis. Lastly,
Theodore Roosevelt had a

Maryland Rule 5-901 Document Analysis
Johnson further maintains that the circuit court erred by admitting documents that were not properly
authenticated. The State counters that the appearance and contents of each of the documents contained
sufficient information from which the factfinder could have reasonably concluded that the document
was what the State purported it to be. We hold that the documents admitted against Johnson were

The requirement of authentication or identification as a condition precedent to admissibility is

  • 2. The School Of Residential Schools This text in relation to my own life has many comparing and contrasting ideas and opinions written throughout the stories and testimonies of the students of residential schools. First off, this text does have components that relate to me personally in regards to the ideals put forth by the staff at residential schools and attempt to convert the students to Christianity. I have been raised in a Christian home and brought up under Christian ways of acting and thinking in my everyday life. The attempt that the White people in the residential schools took to convert the Native children does not relate to me, however after the conversion was completed and the lives of those children changed to Christianity, I can relate to those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We were always hungry (Miller, pg. 290), is another concise indication that students were mistreated and unimportant in the schools. Many issues surrounding providing food to the students as I ve previously mentioned is wrong, however one idea that in my own opinion is very unfair to the students is when the missionaries provid[ed] themselves with separate eating facilities and food superior to that served to the children (Miller, pg. 292), simply to make it aware that they were of more importance than the children within the school. Although the residential schools provided a home for children whose families could not properly provide for them, the ideals and practices behind the residential schools is not how a human being should be treated or nurtured, making the schools very unfit for children to attend. My opinions of residential schools before reading this article were similar to the information provided; mistreatment, poor quality health care and food, trying to change their religion and culture, etc. However, the article failed to change my opinion of residential schools and instead heightened my idea that residential schools should have never existed. For example, students were sent to these schools to be provided with the necessary means to live a dignified life and receive an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. T Cell Lab Report Human immunodeficiency virus is a retrovirus that affects the T cells specifically to the immune system. In spite of, lowering the immunity of humans and claiming the lives of many people around world. H.I.V replication is a multi stage process and every step is necessary to complete its process. ( T Cell ) In step one, the entry of the virus requires certain receptors from the host cell such as a CD4. In addition, these receptors are composed of two glycoproteins that are embedded in the viral envelope. ( Kestens, P. ) By approaching the target, the cells of a gp120 connects to the CD4 receptors and the transmembrane gp41 is capable of transferring its information into the cell membrane. Uniquely, this process creates a pathway for the virus to fuse with the host cell. When it enters the cell it breaks open and releasing two viral RNA strands and three essential replication enzymes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One strand of the RNA is transcribed into a RNA DNA double helix, whereas the breakdown of RNA uses ribonuclease H. Without delay, polymerase completes the cycle with the other DNA strand to form a double helix. Soon after the complication of the polymerase the next enzymes, integrase, takes over. This enzyme is required to cut the end of every third prime and then transfer the DNA into the nucleus. As a result, of combining with the host cell genome that now contains the genetic information of HIV. The cytoplasm gets invaded by the messenger RNA where new viruses are synthesized. Protease, one of the last of the enzymes, helps create the infectious virus. Finally, when the virus becomes mature by the RNA strands and enzymes they come together and form the capsid. It would leave the host cell ready to infect other cells and replicate by billions per day. ( How HIV Infects a Cell. ) Furthermore, with help of antiretroviral therapy, it can block the steps of the viral life cycle and control the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Synthesize Of Acetanilide Between Aniline And Acetic Anhydr Introduction Ways to Synthesize Acetanilide The goal of this experiment was to synthesize acetanilide form aniline and acetic anhydride. Even though this was the reactants used in the laboratory, there are other reactions that would result in the same compound. One way to produce acetanilide is to use aniline but to replace the acetic anhydride with acetonitrile and add deionized water. Even though this reaction has a ninety eight percent yield, the consequence is that the reactants need to be heated to 60o Celsius for forty minutes.1 Another way to create acetanilide is to use 4 (phenylamino) 3 Penten 2 one with oxygen gas. For this process sulfuric acid and Silica must be used as catalysts. The reacting solution must be heated at 120o Celsius for 10 hours.1 This undesirable reaction would only have a ninety six percent yield.1 The reaction conducted in the Organic Chemistry Laboratory has an one hundred percent potential yield.1 The route used for the laboratory was used for the high yield potential, the shorter length of the synthesis, and also because heating the reaction mixture was not required. This method has a potential yield because it is possible to have a one hundred percent yield when the reaction goes to completion and no product is lost. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When cooling the acetanilide solution pure acetanilide crystals are formed. During the vacuum filtration, the acetanilide crystals that were caught in the funnel are washed by ice cold deionized water. Recrystallization is used as a purification method because impurities would not solidify with the crystal and can be easily washed away in the vacuum filtration once the crystal is ... • 5. A Multiple Regression Analysis Is Used To Determine The A multiple regression analysis is used to determine the relationship or association between independent variables (IVs), also known as predictor variables, and a dependent variable (DV) (Sen Srivastava, 2012). The purpose of the report is to summarize and analyze the Virginia Hospitals data from 2005 to determine run a multiple regression model against multiple predictor variables and determine statistical significance between the various hospital variables (i.e. independent variables) and the Total Operating Expense (TOE). A multiple linear regression was calculated to predict the DV (i.e.Total Operating Expense_05) based on the IVs (i.e. Staffed beds_05, Medicare Days_05, Medicaid Days_05, Total Surgeries_05, RN FTE_05, Occupancy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the Staffed beds_05, the hypothesis is that the number of staffed beds has a positive association (β1 0) with TOE; staffed beds require regular care and maintenance, so an increase in staffed bed increases TOE (Villa Kane, 2013). For the Medicare Days_05, the hypothesis is that Medicare days have a negative association (β2 0) with TOE; Medicare days affect the hospital s revenue based on Medicare coverage, and so, an increase in Medicare days decreases TOE (Villa Kane, 2013). For the Medicaid Days_05, the hypothesis is that Medicaid days have a negative association (β3 0) with TOE because Medicaid days increases the hospital s expenses/bad debt; therefore an increase in Medicaid days decreases TOE (Villa Kane, 2013). For the Total Surgeries_05, the hypothesis is that total surgeries have a positive association (β4 0) with TOE as surgical procedures incur costs with the use of specific/specialized drugs and equipment and post operative care; therefore, as total surgeries increase, TOE increases (Fay, 2016). For the RN FTE_05, the hypothesis is that RN FTE has a positive association (β5 0) with TOE as increasing the level of nurse staffing, especially full time (FTE) registered nurses (RN), increases TOE due to the salary payment (Investopedia, 2014). Despite the housing market problems of the last several years, there are still ways to invest and earn an income with properties. While many people immediately think of rental properties as offering steady income, there is also tax lien investing. Although some infomercials make it seem that you can own a property by just buying the tax lien, the reality is that property tax lien investing is far more complicated than those infomercials want you to believe. Environmentalists have used LiDAR extensively in resource mapping for conservation efforts in the past. However, one of the promising applications of LiDAR is planning and designing of engineering projects of varying magnitudes and complexities. Some of the outstanding drawbacks of using traditional data acquisition methods include the amount of time spent collecting the data and the reduction of the data during processing. Such issues are significant in engineering projects due to the corresponding cost and safety implications. Using LiDAR from aerial platforms allows engineers to acquire and process data quickly with high levels of accuracy as compared to the traditional methods. LiDAR involves the use of directing single laser pulses on targets and performing an analysis on time taken to receive the reflected pulses (Finkl, 2013). The data collected helps in the determination of elevation details of an area. Though EWS and RMS are considered radiosensitive, the proportion of patients whose primary tumors are treated with external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) alone has steadily declined over the past 30 years [4]. It is a two way process in which pupils are expected to play an interactive role by answering questions, contributing points to discussions, and explaining and demonstrating their methods to the class. The school worked on a year and a half form entry basis and so classes were generally small. During numeracy children were divided into three ability groups and each group was taught separately. My partner and I (Miss M) worked with the lower ability group. Ofsted (2009) noted that the arrangements for teaching numeracy in smaller groups have had a dramatic effect on pupils progress, improving mathematics from a relative weakness to one of the school s strengths. However, doing so may mean that children know that very little is expected from them. According to Cockburn (1999, p15) if a child is labelled as not being able or lacking in confidence, it may not be very long before that child ceases to perform to the best of their abilities. • 29. Berkeley Admissions Essay The election night of 2000 was a pivotal moment in my life. I stayed up all night on November 7th, 2000, not because I was enthralled with watching Florida flip flop between Gore and Bush, but because I had an IV in my arm which made it impossible to be comfortable. Earlier that evening, I was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes, a disease affecting 1 of 800 people in America. This was an especially crucial time in my life, considering I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis an autoimmune disease that attacks the GI track in 1 of 1400 Americans the June before, and I had my Bar Mitzvah in September. According to the Jewish religion, I had become an adult, and as such, I had decided to greet my new medical challenges with gusto, attempting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I found the latter to be the most satisfying, as many kids, especially the older ones, were curious about the effects, but hesitant to ask an adult about the repercussions. The most challenging thing to me was the number of parents who seemed to simply give up. I saw a large amount of inaction; which in the case of diabetes is simply unacceptable. I enjoyed educating and motivating these kids to make beneficial lifestyle changes, so that good health rather than disease can help to define their futures, as well as my own. While I started my volunteer educational program, another man was well ensconced in his own. Al Gore took up a cause that many people seemed to be ignoring, our environment. The issues of climate change and general environmentalism are very important to me. I see similarities between the challenges of managing a clean environment for our globe and the challenges of managing good health to me. Through concerted efforts to make routine changes we have the capacity to live more ecologically friendly, and often healthier lives. I have seen that with just a few adjustments, I can control my diabetes to the point where most people do not even know I have it. Likewise, I believe that if we commit to making fundamental changes in the way we go about our lives, we can easily remedy several environmental issues we face today. • 32. Color And The Perception Of Color Color and the Perception of Color Cynthia Xu Stoller Middle School Perception. The ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through one of the five senses (Kandel, Schwartz, Jessell, 2000). In other words, it is the process of interpreting and organizing sensory information. Perception must be understood according to figure ground, similarity, proximity, continuity, and other organizing principles. At work in the interpretation of sensory stimuli are other perceptual phenomena such as perceptual constancy, a phenomenon which occurs in the perception of size, shape, color, and brightness; depth perception, another phenomenon based on binocular and monocular cues; and the perception of motion (Wood, 2008). One of the brain s primary functions is to obtain biologically important information from the various sensory inputs. The brain of a human is provided with sufficient information about a variety of things such as light, sound, the atmosphere s chemical composition, temperature, and things such as head orientation, limb position, the chemical composition of the bloodstream, among other things. Specialized sensors project signals into the brain when they detect sensory modalities. Light sensitive neurons in the retina of the eye, vibration sensitive neurons in the cochlea of the ear, along with the pressure sensitive neurons in the skin are all specialized receptor cells of which each sensory system begins with. In chapter twenty of Behold the Dreamers Jende and Neni get in argument because Liomi heard his mom on the phone saying that they were returning to Cameroon, the country they escaped from for a better opportunity. Jende gets very upset with Neni as he says the following is that what you think? You think we should tell a child his father might be deported? You want Liomi to know what s happening to me? (Mbue, 2016, p. 128). Jende s and Neni s fear of immigration is definitely a fear many immigrant families have always had in the city of Woodburn for many years. these families are scared to be separated and to come to an end in their American Dream . Neni and Jende fear for their son because they want him to get a good education and to grow up in a country with opportunities. Their dream is for Liomi to not grow up in a poor city like they did. Their dream is also to become someone in life and to own their own house, which is something many families in the city of Woodburn are also eager for. The life of Jende and Neni in the novel Behold the Dreamers is very similar to the life in the city of Woodburn, which I think is interesting because Jende and Nenis life experience took place in a much bigger city than Woodburn New York city. • 35. Payment System And The System Essay According to Borio and van den Bergh (1993:8), a payment system may be defined as the set of arrangements for the discharge of the obligations assumed by economic agents whenever they acquire real or financial resources. The history of payment systems has been driven by the pressure to facilitate the execution of transactions. Although payments systems differ considerably from country to country, the major participants, as well as the key features of the settlement media and mechanisms, are quite similar. In line with Borio and van den Bergh on the evolution of payments systems (1993:8), Bhiri, Vhimisai and Bayai (2014:412) stated that payments systems have evolved over the years in tandem with the quantum leap in the volume and value of the payment system transactions. The researcher sought to analyse the reasons why there were payment transaction failures due to the systems being used by the financial institution where the researcher is employed. Oliveira and Martins (2011:110) stated that IT is universally regarded as an essential tool in enhancing the competitiveness of the economy of a country. It is commonly accepted today that IT has significant effects on the productivity of firms. Oliveira and Martins (2011:10) further explained that it is crucial to understand the determinants of IT adoption and the theoretical models that are raised when addressing IT adoption. Initially, it looked as if Democrat Samuel Tilden had won the election. Tilden had the majority in the popular vote but had only ended with 184 out of a needed 185 electoral votes. Three southern states had disputed returns during this election and their electoral votes had not been accounted for yet. This led to a few months of both parties trying to claim the remaining electoral votes. This brings us to the the Compromise of 1877. This let Hayes have the presidency and in return the southern states had control over their governments along with some vague promises including a southern transcontinental ... This surge of political violence could be the reaction to the results of the 1872 election which left a Republican in charge. The people participating and leading these violent action believed that they were doing the right thing in trying to regain white supremacy. In a religious metaphor that matched their view of the Civil War as a lost crusade, southern Democrats called their victory Redemption and depicted themselves as Redeemers, holy warriors who had saved the South from the hell of black Republican rule. (Goldfield, 16.5) There were instances in which white persons joined together in an effort of intimaidation and were mostly successful in overthrowing back politicians as well as scaring black voters away from the polls. One example that had a profound impact was that of the New Orleans Leaguers who attempted to oust the Republican Governor William P. Kellog in 1874. • 37. International Law And Nuclear Weapons Internationally, nuclear weapons have been an important topic of concern and debate for the past several decades. The concerns and debates within the international community regarding the proliferation of nuclear weapons to more sovereign states in the post Cold War era have led to many international law instruments in attempts to contain these weapons of mass destruction. Treaties such as the Treaty on the Non Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and the Test Ban Treaty of 1963, international organizations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization (KEDO), along with United Nations Security Council resolutions and advisory opinions from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) have all played roles in attempting to contain and reduce nuclear weapons in the international community. However, have these treaties, advisory opinions, resolutions, and creation of international organizations been effective in curtailing sovereign states from obtaining and testing nuclear weapons? This paper will highlight the relationship between specific instruments of International Law pertaining to nuclear weapons through a case study of North Korea to show that instruments of International Law in particular, such as the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Agency (KEDO), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), along with United States and United Nations economic restrictions, have been ineffective at controlling the ... • 38. Theodore Roosevelt s Influence On Latin America Theodore Roosevelt was a President known for a very dynamic and progressive administration, and his foreign policy in Latin America was no exception. His policies in Latin America were beneficial for the rapidly growing United States, but left an impact on Latin America that was both positive and negative. President Roosevelt took past policies of the United States, such as the unenforced Monroe Doctrine of 1823, and amended them to have the backing of the Navy in the early 1900s. One particular amendment was called the Platt Amendment of 1901, and opened the door to United States expansionism under President Roosevelt. It was under this amendment that Cuba quickly became the foundation for the new Latin American policies of the United States. The Roosevelt Corollary was another important part of Roosevelt s Latin American foreign policy. Roosevelt believed that Latin America was quite vulnerable to European expansionism, and added his Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine which stated that should the Europeans attack, and should any Latin American nation engage in chronic wrongdoing such as outstanding debt, then the United States would intervene on their behalf. In essence, Europe would remain where it was, while the United States controlled the entire Western Hemisphere. The opportunity came for Roosevelt to implement this policy during the invasion of the Dominican Republic by European debt collectors, and Venezuelan Crisis. Lastly, Theodore Roosevelt had a ... The paper we used in this unit was studying the way the shape of a skull can determine and help explain their feeding groups; they used the dog family when doing this study (Slater et al.).
