COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS OF MEDICAL LABORATORY TESTS
Introduction:Management in clinical diagnostic fields are frequently involved in cost analysis of
new procedures due to the constantly changing science and technology. Also due to the health care
organization especially the diagnostic division being tightly regulated by accreditation and
regulatory bodies bringing a new procedure in house requires in depth analysis prior to an any
decision being taken.
Cost Object:In a clinical laboratory in a small community hospital we currently refer specimens for
free PSA (prostatic specific antigen) to a large commercial laboratory. A prominent physician on
staff has requested that us to start doing the test in house to improve turnaround time. To do this,
we would need to offer a total PSA and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The same can be done for processing costs. Pricing information for the consumables used is
available from the utilization reports generated monthly by the finance department.
When calculating reagents costs, the cost of the reagent actually used to run a single test is easy to
calculate based on the known volume of reagent used and the cost per volume. These numbers are
available from information generated by vendors. The cost of calibrators and controls is also
available, but the actual cost of these per test can be determined by using the following
formula:Cost of total amount usedTotal number of tests performed (using a particular calibration
and/or control run time table).
E.g. Three levels of control are run once per shift for 9 tests including free PSA and the instrument
uses 0.2 ml. of control, the cost of 0.2 ml of control solution is $.91 each.
($.91 X 3) = $ .309Note: Sometimes, when these numbers are very small, they can be included as a
factor and not evaluated directly.
Factors used in Laboratory labor cost calculations in this laboratory include time required to
perform the test as well s wage and benefit cost. The formula used isX +E.g. Free PSA test takes
three minutes of a medical technologist s time to perform and report, the

Microbial Fuel Cells use bacteria to convert waste into...
Microbial Fuel Cells use bacteria to convert waste into electrical energy. These bacteria break
down almost any biodegradable organic waste including sewage and water waste and use it as fuel
to generate power. Places like Penn State University and The Biodesign Institute in Arizona State
University are already testing and improving this new alternative energy. According to Penn State
University they have achieved in producing 1.5 watts per meter squared of amount of waste
water taken in and believe that a large industrial plant will be able to produce near 0.8 watts per
meter squared and will be able to support about 500 homes (9). This is a new technology that is

This cell uses bacteria like Shewanella oneidensis and Rhodoferax ferrireducens and many labs
are attempting to find better strains of bacteria more suited to the process (3). This fuel cells
work in two parts. Basically, the microbial fuel cell has two halves, aerobic and anaerobic.
Aerobic means with presence of oxygen, anaerobic means a lack of oxygen. When bacteria
consume their food in aerobic conditions they produce carbon dioxide and water, however when
it s in an anaerobic condition they produce carbon dioxide, electrons and protons. The MFC has
the bacteria put in the anaerobic chamber of the cell and decompose water material that contain
glucose and/or acetate. The bacteria also free hydrogen ions and electrons. The electrons flow
from an anode into the cathode. The hydrogen ions however just pass through the barrier; soon the
electrons and hydrogen ions are in the aerobic chamber and combine with the oxygen forming h2o.
The H2O is released and electrical energy is produced from the transfer off the energy between the
Anode and Cathode (or Anaerobic and Aerobic chambers).
Microbial Fuel Cells have a large variety of benefits due to its versatility and choice of fuel.
Firstly it can use most biodegradable organic matter including human and animal waste, sewage,
etc. This is great as there is no limit to the fuel and it is easy to find. Secondly, it reduces cost

Is Science Our Enemy?
Science not only places an important role in the human culture, but it also helps people in
multifarious ways in today s world. However, people said that science will hurt human, and they
set a block on the scientific road. In the article Enemies of Promise wrote by the professor of
microbiology at University of California, San Francisco who named Bishop, Michael J. He
mentions that although science already helped people to solve problems, there are many other
people who still do not support science. Moreover, the author of Cars and Their Enemies James

As the author states, We live in an age of scientific triumph. Science has solved many of nature s
puzzles and greatly enlarged human knowledge. Yet despite these proud achievements, science
today is increasingly mistrusted and under attack. It is attacked more often because it is
misunderstood (Bishop 304). He believes the solution and invention that science provides to us
are more than we think; However, people start to focus on the side effects of science instead of
the advantages it brings, and the criticism seem like a common practice now. The main cause of
this is not only the blindly follow by the ignorant public, but also the fear of find out the truth.
Resistance to science is born of the fear. Fear, in turn, is bred by ignorance. And it is ignorance that
is our deepest malady (Bishop 308). The main anti science sentiment is the religious community,
because they need to protect their belief. They might afraid of the truth that science can find out,
because it will shake their base of religion. In the other hands, if those people still criticize science
by their fears, our society is going to be a ignorant society. Even though science have been feared,
mistrusted, and despised, the author still want readers to understand the importance of science in
the future of our world. Therefore, people should try to study more knowledge and face the truth,
and help science to

Research Paper on Anabolic-androgenic Steroids
Research Paper on Anabolic androgenic Steroids
Anabolic androgenic steroids are a group of hormones, which includes the natural male hormone,
testosterone, and a number of synthetic compounds. Anabolic refers to muscle building, while
androgenic refers to increased masculine characteristics. Anabolic effects are basically muscle
growth. Androgenic effects produce secondary male sex characteristics like facial hair, body hair,
deepening of the voice, and so on. In the 1950 s scientists were trying to isolate the muscle building
properties without the masculinizing effects. This lead to the development of synthetic anabolic
steroids.
The word steroid simply means a class of drugs . Steroids are hormones ... Show more content on

Overall steroids are illegal, and dangerous, but they are still used by many people. Steroids go
straight to the bloodstream, quicker if they are injected. When taken orally they first go through
the liver. Basically steroids work like this: A steroid enters the bloodstream and is carried into
the muscle cell by diffusion then it binds to a receptor site. (These are certain areas in a cell that
are receptive to free floating molecules in the blood). The connection formed lets the steroid send
a message to the receptor site to have some sort of a metabolic change in the cell. This is primarily
increased protein synthesis and nitrogen retention (Taylor 143 145). This leads to increased size
and strength in the muscle cell.
There are a number of ways that anabolic steroids are used including medical uses. Some people
take steroids orally, by injection, or by rubbing gels or creams onto skin. Abusers take 10 100 times
larger doses than would be prescribed by a doctor (Blue and Lombardo 98).
Stacking is a way of using. This means the abuser takes two or more different anabolic steroids.
Sometimes they mix oral and injectable types. Some people even use compounds that are used for
veterinary uses. These abusers who use stacking think that the effect of the mixing of the drugs will
have a greater affect than using them alone. This theory has now been scientifically researched
though (Blue and Lombardo

Essay about Rap and Moral Character
Rap and Moral Character In the article Rap and Moral Character by Wesley Cragg and Christine
Koggel, the subject of concern is the consequences of listening to rap music and the effects on
moral behaviour. The author suggests that rap and moral character are linked and that due to the
natural context of rap, it promotes violence, crass materialism, crime, and is misogynistic and
therefore corrupts a person s moral character. Based on their claims, the authors take the position
that rap should be censured morally. In this paper, I will examine the authors claims, their
reasoning, and their use of concepts. By doing so, I will be able to demonstrate that their thesis

This claim may seem to be fine if it stood by itself. However, in this context, the author is saying
that everyone who listens to rap is bad, corrupt, and engages in criminal activities. In other words,
the authors are saying that they are bad. This claim is loaded and assumes that everyone who
listens to this type of music is bad because through the whole article, they talk about how rap
disrupts moral character and how it leads to bad things. This can also be classified as a hasty
generalization. This is a hasty generalization because the authors generalize beyond the limits of the
population (implying that everyone who listens to rap is a certain type of person).
The authors make another fallacious claim right after the hasty generalization claim. The claim

The Importance Of A Hydroponics And Aquaculture Gardening...
Investigation and Planning
When contemplating multiple concepts, I ended up deciding that my topic for my personal project
is building and maintaining an aquaponics garden. An aquaponics garden is the combination of
hydroponics and aquaculture. These terms simply refer to the soil less growing of plants, and the
raising and growing of fish in one system. Hydroponics and aquaculture combine together to
creating a single, thriving ecosystem. Aquaculture raises the fish that eventually become large
enough to be consumed by humans for nutritional value, and the gill bearing aquatic animals
provide the waste that the plants use as fertilizer. The soil less growing of plants means to use
gravel and the water combined with fish waste to support ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A PowerPoint grants me the ability to provide slides with full descriptions of what I will do and

Scientific and technical innovation is the global context that most precisely describes my topic.
When adopting the challenge of a fully functioning ecosystem, I questioned myself as to why I
would want to do this. What came to my mind constantly was the reoccurring thought of wanting to
help the environment. This subcategory explains that the impact of scientific advances is major on
the environment, and this was the original peak of my interest on my topic. The ability to make my
own ecosystem with the new advances stops the growing of weeds, the attack of pests on plants,
and back pain from gardening, Scientific innovation has eliminated the hassle of gardening, in
essence.
My prior knowledge on this topic and influences are extensive. My father first thought of wanting
to create a project he could do in his free time. He ended up pulling me into the task, and we
thought of an aquaponics garden. We both were infatuated with the idea, having both a heavy
interest in the science and agricultural field. The topic explored the depths of both of our minds
and our interests. This influenced me by thinking of how I could modify this project. This time I
would do it on my own and make a smaller model. Prior to creating my miniature model, I knew
what materials would be needed. Also, the knowledge of how

and install third party applications. Jailbreaking a iphone can be a relatively simple task to do.
There are two types of jailbreak you can perform on your iPhone, and they are a tethered
jailbreak and an untethered jailbreak. 1) Tethered jailbreak: This method is not recommended,
as it requires you to jailbreak your iPhone by connecting it to your computer every time you
switch off your phone or if the battery dies. Usually, this method is only performed when a new
software update for the iPhone is released and an untethered jailbreak method is unavailable. 2)
Untethered jailbreak: This method involves connecting your iPhone to your computer once and
jailbreaking it. After doing this, your phone remains jailbroken even after it switches off and you
switch it back on again. In other words, the jailbreaking process is permanently done on your
iPhone without needing to be done again if you reboot your phone. Of course if you wish to un
jailbreak your iPhone, it s still possible by resetting via iTunes. So naturally this is the preferred

Drinking Diet Soda Is Healthier For You Than Drinking...
Next, many consumers believe that drinking diet soda is healthier for you than drinking regular
soda filled with sugar but studies are starting to show that artificial sweeteners may actually lead
to diabetes. Mary Ann Yantis, PhD, RN, a nurse educator for Nursing Education Consultants and
Kate Hunter, RD, LD (2010), a clinical dietitian at Adventist Medical Center reports (2010) that
drinking more than one serving of diet soda per day can increase your risk of metabolic
syndrome by more than 36%. Metabolic syndrome is a group of risk factors, which includes
hypertension, abdominal obesity, hyperglycemia and hypertriglyceridemia. These risk factors
increase a person s risk of developing diabetes, heart disease and stroke. This same study also
reports (2010) that one diet soda per day can increase a person s risk of developing type 2 diabetes
by more the 67%. This is possibly due to the fact that artificial sweeteners can be up to 13,000 times
sweeter than sugarand this intense sweetness can be addictive thus creating cravings for more
sweetness in order to feel satisfied. Yantis and Hunter (2010) point out that the sweet taste triggers
the same dopamine signals that are also triggered by drugs such as cocaine and heroin. Craving for
more intense artificial sweetness will result in consuming more calories, increase the likelihood of
developing insulinresistance, and more than likely affect the glucose metabolism (Yantis Hunter,
2010). Another study done

Case Study Of Stieg Larsson s Lisbeth Salander
The best memory one could have even of one s own life is definitely his or her childhood. But
when the childhood goes wrong, our whole life is topsy turvy. The trauma experienced during
childhood pricks us day by day creating obsession and weakness thereby forming a barrier in our
overall personality development. Childhood trauma is more powerful that it can leave an
everlasting impression on our behaviour and personality. This paper makes a case study of Stieg

the normal behavioural pattern as an impact of the trauma experienced during her childhood.

Salander was put under the guardianship of an advocate Holger Palmgren, a nice man interested
in altruistic activities. He is the only positive inspiration in salander s life. He understood
Salander and tolerated all her eccentricities and violent behaviour like a father handling a
difficult teenager. She had joined a rock band named Evil fingers and started dressing herself like
a junkie belonging to some Satan cult. She got herself drunk, used drugs, had sexual intercourse
with whomever she like no matter male or female. She had a wayward Lifestyle and was usually
an outlaw. Holger Palmgren never attempted to advise her on her behaviour. Instead he talked to
one of his friends at Milton security Agency and got her a job of checking mails and making
coffee. He was liberal enough to allow Lisbeth Salander handle her own expenses. Suddenly one
fine day Lisbeth discovered him when having stroke on the apartment floor and had admitted him in
the hospital. When the doctors had no hope of his survival, Lisbeth unable to tolerate his upcoming
death deserted him in the hospital. After the stroke, her guardian was changed by the government.

goodness. Right from the first conversation she understood that their relationship is going to be

Psychological Characters In Angela Duckworth s Grit
One may wonder, what indeed makes one successful and what has an effect on our psychological
traits? Angela Duckworth, in her non fiction book Grit, attempts to answer this question by making
the claim that grit, talent, and all other psychological traits relevant to success in life are influenced
by genes and also by experience .(82). Duckworth supports her claim through the use of anecdotal
stories and researchreferencing studies conducted by researchers. One example Duckworth uses
includes the Flynn Effect, (83) attributed to Jim Flynn. He analyzed IQ scores and its rapid
growth through the decades to explain how it is socially multiplied. In general, Duckworth
attempts to convince the audience that the characteristics making up a person come from one s
genes as well as personal experiences. I am in agreement with Duckworth s claim, because I have
found multiple sources of evidence that supports it. Also, her claim is the only logical explanation
for our developing psychological traits and its effect towards success. First we must explore the
Flynn Effect and what it means to us as a society.
People as a whole advance over time because of the world around us and the The Flynn effect is a
sound example of that. I believe in this Flynn Effect because Jim Flynn makes logical sense out of
the rapidly increasing IQ scores. Duckworth introduces the the Flynn Effect in Grit (83), named
after Jim Flynn referring to exponentially increasing IQ scores over the past century.

Management Theories Essay
Discuss how important it is in 2013 for managers to be able to understand and apply management
theories in the workplace.
Introduction
Managers a huge part of a organisation they are arguably the main drivers to the success of the
organisation as they are the ones that have control of the human and non human resources, how
they control these resources determines is the organisation achieves its over all goals. It is so
important that managers do control these resources correctly that there has been extensive research
in to how to be a good manger, this research has meant that we now have management theories. I
will be discussing four management theories including behavioural management theory,
contingency management approach, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes a manager can t give there employees some of there needs this is usually the case
with psychological and love/belonging but managers can help with the safety by providing a safe
working environment and also a safe job, they can also offer things like health insurance.
Managers can also help with esteem by having regular meetings to talk about how the individual
doing telling them what they are doing well and maybe a few things they need to improve. The
final category is self actualisation one way a manager can enforce this is by giving individuals
different tasks to do that will make them think more than there day to day jobs.
This is a very important theory for a manager to understand and apply because it will allow them to
not just get more motivation out of their employees but too also be able to connect to them more
which means that they can find out exactly what their employees want.
Behavioural management theory Application
One example of this theory being applied in the real world is with the company that owns a few
big name restaurants and that company is Darden Restaurants. Darden restaurants has 8 brands
which include well known names such as Red Lobster, Olive Garden and LongHorn Steakhouse.
The new CEO of Darden s Restaurant, Clarence Otis, Jr. has changed his leadership style since

ABSTRACT: Due to the rapid development of technology, there is a rapid development in the
case of telecommunications and IT field. Now a days every company is in the race to develop a
web application or a mobile app which is user friendly and is more efficient. Many models came
into the market and are succeeded but they are in race to develop new apps or new web
applications. This paper discuss about the existing methodologies in web software development and
mobile software development.

Agile methodologies are best suited whenever the budget is tight and the time for the project is
less. It helps the companies to build the right product and empowers the team to develop new
apps according to the changes which will occur from day to day and helps the company up to
date. We are going to discuss about the methodologies which are developed on the basis of the
agile development process which are helpful for the development of mobile applications.

Waterfall model: This model has five phase like requirements, design, implementation, verification
and maintenance. It is a sequential process. It is originated from manufacturing and construction
industries. It is proposed by Royce. This model is series of cascading steps that covers actual
development process of the project and has iteration between its steps. The main problem with this
model is that rigidity of the model and there is no iteration between any other stages other than
adjacent stages. As we all know that web is the fastest mode of developing technology, therefore a
model which will automatically adapt to the changes taking place in the environment are to be
preferred.

Opera Today Research Paper
Opera is just as popular as it was years ago. In the past groups of individuals used to meet up in
opera houses to watch the host perform a play or a musical. As of now most opera is played
through music cd s and DVD s, which is far less cheaper than purchasing a ticket to see a live
show. Opera today still takes place on stage and in theaters. The high cost of production can
sometimes make it not possible to have a live show which is very common in today s time.
Majority of the operasongs that are played today come from jazz, folk , and rock musicals.
Modern opera now uses electrical equipment to improve hearing and visual aid. The most common
form of opera in the 20th and 21th century is rock musicals. This type of musical is just like

analogy I think does work. This is because of whom they are using as an example. Since Andre
used Danny s mom as the victim of a comment then it s going to be taken more seriously. So what
I mean is, that if Danny told his mom the n word, his mom would take it better from him rather

to articulate his emotions. This is because I just accepted for what Andre had to say. Though if I

because Andre, who just got into a fight, said something very articulating and I wasn t expecting

Asparagus is very high in nutritional value and thus should be part of one s daily diet chart. When
you take a small cup of asparagus it can fulfill about 70% of ones daily intake of vitamin K. Further
the nutrients within it lower the risk of heart disease and diabetes.
It helps in digestion as it has high fiber content and it controls the levels of blood sugar. It flushes
out toxins and neutralizes all the harmful effects of free radicals and thus the cells in the body

Fast Food Advertising and Childhood Obesity
Fast Food Advertising And Childhood Obesity
A rise in obesity has been observed in the United States in the last two decades. Obesity is one
problem that gives birth to numerous fatal diseases, including but not limited to cardiovascular
disease, diabetes, and depression. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
conducted a survey and found that, More than one third of U.S. adults (35.7%) and
approximately 17% (or 12.5 million) of children and adolescents aged 2 19 years are obese (Ogden,
Carroll). One of the main reasons behind obesity is the American s love for fast food. Fast food

The similar advertising bans already exist in some jurisdictions such as in Quebec (Canada) and
few Scandinavian countries (Dhar, Baylis 7). Sweden, Norway, and Finland have banned
commercial sponsorship of children s programs. Sweden also does not permit any television
advertising targeting children under the age of twelve (Role of Media). Quebec s 32 years ban
on advertising to children had led to $88 million annual reduction in expenditures on fast food
and 13.4 billion to 18.4 billion fewer fast food calories being consumed per year (Dhar, Baylis 2
10). Residents of Quebec have a very sedentary life, yet their obesity rate is comparatively lesser
than the US. These figures indicate that the sanction on fast food advertisement can prove
effective in lowering or curbing fast food consumption in the United States as well. A larger
proportion of the US population leads a very active life. An active life combined with the proper
and healthy diet may lead to significant reduction in the obesity rates. Media and entertainment
giant Walt Disney Co s has already banned junk food advertisements during its TV, radio and other
online programs intended for children under the age of 12 (Heavey).

The Disadvantages And Disadvantages Of Credit Cards
Nowadays credit cards are the preferred method of payment all around the world. Whether you re
buying fruits at the market to TV s at the store, credit cards can be used to purchase almost
anything you can imagine. But, like most things credit cards also have advantages and
disadvantages that come with using them. Such as how easy it is to accrue credit carddebt which
affects your credit score. Some advantages that come with a credit card include building up your
credit score, keeping your cash safe in case you lose your card, and reward programs. Credit
cards can be extremely bad if you allow yourself to build up debt. It is extremely easy to build up
debt. That s because many credit cards have high interest rates, which means the amount owed can
quickly snowball out of control. (Bahney) The more moneyyou spend with the credit card, the
more money you owe the credit card company if you don t pay your monthly bills on time.
Everyday commodities have slowly been increasing in price. One of the biggest drivers of our
credit card debt is that cost of living has been outpacing income growth. (Bahney) The cost of
living is more than the income of most families. That is a reason why consumer debt has
reached a total of 1 trillion dollars in the United States. You have to pay extra money if you don t
pay your bills on time. Failing to pay your credit card bills on time can hurt you in more ways than
one. First, you ll face a late paymentfee (Backman) Not only do you have to pay interest on top of
the money owed but you also have to pay an extra late fee which just ends up hurting you even
more. All of the late fees and interests you have to pay affect your credit score. being late with
payments is a surefire way to damage your credit score, (Backham) Your credit score is basically
a rating based on how well you pay your dues. Your credit score determines how much interest
will be, whether your eligible for a credit card, and plenty of other things because they need to be
able to trust that you ll pay them back. So, if your credit score goes downhill due to late fees and
interest then people will be less likely to trust you with their money. Some of the disadvantages that
come with having a credit card are

Pros And Cons Of Blablism
With Japan s economy coming in at the third largest in world its economic success has often been
credited to the distinctive corporate business systems that it favours. Following the First World
War Japan experienced huge economic growth which was known as the post war miracle due to
the increased focus on industrial and economic goals rather than defence spending. However, this
era of booming economic growth passed with its growth of gradually beginning to slow down and
stabilise. This, in turn, led to Japan s economic recession and so called bubble economy which led
Japan into its lost decade, with Japan struggling to sustain economic growth since the burst of the
bubble economy. Although having recovered Japan s economy has never seemed to return to what
it once was, with the unemployment rate steadily climbing and national debt increasing.
Consequently, could this slowing of growth be due to Japans reluctance to engage in major
organisational restructuring and avoid radical innovation? In this essay I will be exploring this idea
further by looking at key features of the traditional Japanese businessmodel and exploring some of
the darker sides of BLABALBL. I will then go on to look at the vari TOYOTISM FORDISM?

Piaget s Psychological Analysis
The theorist Erik Erikson once said: There is in every child at every stage a new miracle of
vigorous unfolding, which constitutes a new hope and a new responsibility for all. Human
development follows a sequence of achievements; yet, the exact age and time when it will transpire
is unpredictable. In contrast to what Piaget believed, today s psychologist promote the thought that
children master certain goals at various ages, rather than following an exact blueprint. To support
this belief, one needs to deeply analyze Piaget s four cognitive stages of development. Thus,
scrutinizing in debt each individual phase will result in accurate conclusions. Observing children in
their natural habitat, taking note of their behaviors and reactions to... Show more content on

As Piaget has predicted, the children all agreed that they now have more liquid in their glasses
since their cup is taller. To further support this theory, I administered my own experiment. I had the
children look at a chair across a room and say if it is possible for them to touch it from their current
position. They all agreed that it is impossible. Thereafter, I told them to focus on the object through
a pair of binoculars and see if they can reach it now. Instantly, the children, with outstretched arms,
exclaimed that of course they can since now it is within their distance. This experiment further
supports Piaget s study.
Although Jean Piaget proved his four stages and experimented in debt to reach a conclusion,
observationists nowadays often contradict his facts and prove some errors. Hence, the sequence of
the developments are usually accurate, the age base that Piaget assigned them to is underestimated.
Children far younger than the suggested ages grasp concepts that Piaget believed unattainable at
those years. All things considered, psychologists and researchers, although often in disagreement
with Piaget s theories, still base their studies and observations on his

Everyday Life Sociology
All interpretation of our world is based on previous experiences of it both our own and others. It
is given to us when we are born to experience and interpret. The world of everyday life, or
everyday social world, is an intersubjective world that existed long before our birth, experienced
and interpreted by Others, our predecessors, as an organised world. (Schutz, 1962 1996: 208)
This world isn t a private world, it is common to all of us, and provides the scene and object of
our actions and interactions. Our everyday social world is shaped by our actions, our actions are
influenced by the environment we exist in. Understanding this world gives us a chance to view
how personal and interpersonal relationships intersect with relations of power and broader social
identities. (Robin Overholtzer, 2015). The concept of everyday life in central to humanity. People

Povinelli s Mirror Self-Recognition Of Asian Elephants
Gordon Gallup Jr. was the first to hypothesize a connection between mirror self recognition and
empathy by studying evidence of great apes comforting each other. Elephants are highly empathetic
as they support and care for one another in their herds. They can see when something is wrong with
a fellow elephantand try to help. This makes them a perfect candidate for the mirror self recognition
test. Povinelli saw this and conducted an experiment in 1989 using elephants. Years late in 2006
Plotnik conducted a similar experiment and recognized errors made in Povinelli s with the size and
placement of the mirror and health of the elephants used, both ran into the problem of the elephants
seeing the marks as inconsequential.
Daniel Povinelli tested two Asian elephants in 1989 and Plotnik in 2006 tested three Asian
elephants. In both experiments, they used female Asian elephants, they did not use female African
elephants because they touch their heads several time a day due to secretion of their temporal

For [Co(ONO)(NH3)5]Cl2
[CoCl(NH3)5]Cl2 + NaNO2 = [Co(ONO)(NH3)5]Cl2 + NaCl (eqn 1.4) n([CoCl(NH3)5]Cl2) =

standard of the workers, it also helps in raising the economy of the country. One of the good
things is that companies need to pay taxes to the government which directly help to boost the

message to other potential investors that there is a stable environment for investment, leading in
more investment, job opportunities and prosperity in the country. This have standardized the

also helps in developing the infrastructure. As these factories need proper transportation,
communication, digital technologies, etc., it helps in developing it. I also agree that
sweatshops are not good all the time. Obviously, there are some bad sides of sweatshops. The
first thing is that people need to work in the horrific condition putting their life in risk.

making turns. In these cases, the frictional forces provide the needed force to stay on the track. In
this experiment, we used a force sensor and a computer to determine the friction of a sliding block
with and without different masses on it.
Procedure
Description of setup
We connected the force sensor to the labquest, and from the latter to the computer. A string was
then tied to the hook on the woodblock and the other end to the force sensor s hook. Photo below.
The range switch on the force sensor was set to 10N. After this, the logger pro was launched and
the setup was zeroed. To zero the setup, there had to be no tension in the string; then we hit the Р¤
looking button to zero.
Outline of technique
It was necessary to know the mass of the woodblock throughout this experiment. So, its mass was
weighed and recorded in the table below. A 1 kg mass was then, placed on the top of the
woodblock. From here, we were ready to pull the force sensor and see what results we get on the
graphs. A small force was applied to the force sensor and then pulled hard enough to set the system
in motion. The pulling was continued for some time and it was done steadily and at the same pace.
Various other massed were tested and the resulting frictions that they produced are recorded

Florence Nightingale Had A Big Impact On The Math World
Florence Nightingale had a big impact on the math world. We still use what she contributed
today in the medical field and in the classroom. She not only made an impact in the math world
but also for women s rights and in the medical field during the Crimean War. Florence had an
interesting early life, from begging her parents to study math to choosing to become a nurse.
She is an example of how you should never give up on your dreams and how you should not let
other people tell you what you can and cannot do. Florence was born on May 12th, 1820 in
Florence Italy, which is where she got her name. Her parents were William Edward Nightingale
and Frances Nightingale Nee Smith. She had a sister named Frances Parthenope, also named
after the place in which she was born. They were an upper class British family at the Vita
Colombaia. They had three homes one called Embley, Hampshire, and Lea Hurst. In 1838
Florence met Mary Clarky, Clarkey was a stimulating hostess who did not care about what she
looked like. Clarkey had no respect for upper British women. She mostly spent her time around
male intellectuals as opposed to the company of women. Clarkey demonstrated that women could
be equal to men. This is an idea that Florence s mother and sister did not support. Clarkey and
Florence became close friends. In 1840 Florence begged her parents to let her study mathematics.
Her mother did not support her wishes and instead wanted her to marry and for her to perform
home duties. Her

The Geological Characteristics of Ethiopia Essays
Ethiopia with a growth rate of 8.5 percent per year is one of the 12th fastest growing economies in
the world in 2012. As major sectors of the economy, the agriculture, industry and services sectors
contribute 4.9 percent, 13.6 percent and 11.1 percent respectively (Geiger and Moller, 2013). With
this growth pace, the country aims to achieve the mid economy class countries in 2025 (MinistГ©r,
2011). The growth and transformation plan (GTP) gives vital attention to the manufacturing sectors
to be the basic engine of economic growth and the cementmanufacturing industry considered to
contribute to the success of this plan (MinistГ©r, 2011).

It recommends cement plants to install pollution prevention and control techniques. Further, Kumar
and Rawani (2012) revealed that in cement production process, environmental impacts are
significant starting from pre production phase to end yielding phase typically greenhouse gases.
Moreover, since clinker production is a major for energy input, emission potential, product quality
and cost in cement plants, toxic pollutants were released from physical and chemical reactions of
the raw materials and fuels of this cement kiln system (EEA, 2009). In line with this, cement
production contributes about 10% to the total global mercury emissions (Marquita, 2010).
Additionally, Oss and Padovani (2002) stated that the environmental issues of cement
manufacturing is related to general mining and mineral processing as local, regional and global
problem. These are local problems such as dust, ground subsidence, noise, vibrations, chemical
contamination, tailings spills, scenic and local ecologic degradation, and health problems among
miners. The regional scale problems are acid rain and contamination of surface and/or groundwater,
spills of processing chemicals and stream sediment loading. The global scale problems are effects
of minerals use and anthropogenic greenhouse gases in global warming.
These examples show that cement factories are a major source of pollutants for the surrounding
areas (Darley, 1966). In addition, cement industry plays a vital role

A Problem for the Aviation Industry Essay
Section 217: A Problem for the Aviation Industry
On a cold February evening in 2009, just outside the city of Buffalo, New York, two pilots crashed
a new aircraft on final approach to land into Buffalo Niagara International Airport. In an effort to
prevent an accident of a similar nature from happening, the U.S. Congress passed H.R. 5900, the
Airline Safety and Federal Aviation AdministrationExtension Act. This bill under Title II was
aimed to enhance airline safety and in part prevent an accident of this nature from occurring again
(U.S. House 2010). Section 217 of the bill pushes the minimum hours required to act as a pilot on
a regional carrier up to 1,500 total flight hours and requires those persons to do an extensive Air ...

Asia s economy is booming and this has resulted in the growth of many startup carriers that offer
tax free salaries and free housing for pilots with less than 1500 hours a very attractive opportunity.
This may cause a potential migration of pilots that would lead to many U.S. airlines having planes
but no one qualified to fly them.
Further contributing to the shortage is that the cost to become a pilot is already expensive,
causing low interest in the field; this law would make it even worse. By calculation, if a
potential pilot were to start today, he would probably be facing a debt of between $50,000 and
$80,000 just to receive the flight training required to gain 250 hours (Chatterjee). Added to this
is the cost of attending a college with an accredited program. Potential pilots could be looking at
paying well over $200,000 in loans to be able to fly. Before this law passed, pilots were assured that
if they worked hard and passed through all the training received from college and flight school
they would be able to become a pilot with one of the regional carriers and make a small salary
while obtaining the required hours for one of the major carriers. Now, even this option has been
taken away by the government because of the new hour requirement. Many pilots will have to
look for work at their local airport for two or even three years without a steady pay in order to get a
job which will only

The Syrian Refugee Crisis Essay
A refugee is defined as an individual who has been forced to leave their country due to political
or religious reasons, or due to threat of war or violence. There were 19.5 million refugees
worldwide at the end of 2014, 14.4 million under the mandate of the United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), around 2.9 million more than in 2013. The other 5.1
million Palestinian refugees are registered with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency
(UNRWA). With the displacement of so many people, it is difficult to find countries willing to
accept all the refugees. There are over 125 different countries that currently host refugees, and with
this commitment comes the responsibility of ensuring these refugees have access to... Show more

Despite the efforts of parents to keep traditions alive, children are changing, fighting over food,
clothing and anything of any value. Many children feel like they are prisoners in their host
countries. Many are not allowed to leave their homes due to safety concerns and chores that
need to be completed. Twenty nine percent of Syrian refugees leave their home less than once a
week. In many cases, multiple families are crammed into the same, often one roomed house.
People who held jobs, and often led successful lives now live off of handouts, or by working odd
jobs. Many children have been out of school for over two years, and there is no opportunity to
begin school in their host country. Last year, over 40% of elementary children dropped out of
school due to the civil war and resulting displacement. With no job and no opportunity of
education for their children, there is little hope for those who have fled Syria. Aside from the
difficulty of finding a place within a school, many children are also expected to work and to help
provide for their families, as many parents cannot find a job. Many go to school all day, and then
work night shifts at restaurants or factories. Many children are often exposed to extremely long
working hours, dangerous types of work and many are exposed to illegal activities. Those that do
manage to go to school are faced with harsh discrimination, and often segregation. The parents of

Similarities Between Psycho And The Birds
When looking at the collection of works by Alfred Hitchcock, it is common to notice similar
threads throughout his life work. The films viewed in class alone, share many things, as both
Psycho and The Birds consist of more than what meets the eye. Though one may be about a killer
man and the other about killer animals, both Hitchcock films develop a deep, dark string of events
leading up to inevitable death. Being in touch with a great love of drama, thrill and suspense, Alfred
Hitchcockleaves you on the edge of your seat, with many famous scenes and never before seen
ideas, making you incapable of averting your eyes. As noted many times in class, Hitchcock
followed a common storyline with the types of characters he created. For example,... Show more

the viewers to be more perceptive of certain details, giving us hints based on the surrounding

may be going in. For example, the famous shower scene in Psycho, when Norman Bates mother is
about to murder Marion Crane. When the shower curtain is pulled back and we see the killer,
her face is completely darkened and out of focus, but the knife with which the mother kills
Crane, is captured perfectly. This camera effect, as well as the close up of Crane s face when she
is about to be killed, allows the spectators to truly be the voyeurs and fully experience the tension
the scene is trying to encapsulate. We experience similar shots throughout The Birds, but
specifically when Hendren s character Melanie Daniels approaches the attic, investigating some
suspicious sounds. When she opens the door, almost immediately she is swarmed by hundreds of
malicious birds attacking her from all angles. Hitchcock meticulously places the camera on
Daniels face, getting a close up shot of her terror, in order to present a more urgent sense of

Saint Ignatius Of Loyola Personal Writings
The book, Saint Ignatius of Loyola Personal Writings, was translated by Joseph A. Munitiz and
Philip Endean and first published in 1996. This book contains many aspects of St. Ignatius life,
from his reminiscences to his spiritual exercises. Inigo Lopez de Loyola was born in 1491 in
Spain, the youngest of 13 children. Inigo became a soldier at the age of 18 and began to refer to
himself at Ignatius. Ignatius becomes a man obsessed with his image and a life of luxury until his
conversion into a devout catholic. Saint Ignatius of LoyolaPersonal Writings tells the story of St.
Ignatius early life obsessed with his image, and his transformation into his ultimate obsession with
living a life dedicated to Christ, that I believe may have interfered with his growing relationship
with God.
St. Ignatius lived his life in vain. He was too concerned with his outward appearance, and his
reputation among others. In battle, his legs were badly injured. Even through the excruciating
pain, he made an effort to show no outer sign of discomfort. When his legs had healed, one leg
was left with an unsightly misconfiguration from the healing of the bones. He underwent another,
even more, painful surgery to fix his outer appearance. During his long recovery, St. Ignatius read
about the life of Christ and the saints. As he learned more about the holy lives of the saints, St.
Ignatius was converted and was determined to live a life the way Christ and the saints did.
After St. Ignatius was

Why was I cursed with the passion to learn what was called the Universal language of the world.
My intentions with music arose from a young age in a middle school band when I was given a
trumpet after being rejected a saxophone. I was as good as a middle school musician. Even so,
my middle school band director chose me along with a few others to represent the school in a
regional 6th grade honor band. To be declared as outstanding (or as outstanding as a middle
schooler can be) musician was different enough that it sparked an obvious passion in me. My
older brother was a school year ahead of me and was also being recognized for his achievements in

musicianship needed to be recognized above the others. My band director s name was Ms.

great friend but would tear kids apart when it came to musicality or standing out of form in

somewhat in middle school. I was recognized as a great musician for a freshman in high school.
During the concert band season, there were two bands. The advanced group, the wind ensemble,
and the beginner group, the concert band. I admit that there was another freshman trumpet player
who made the Wind Ensemble when I did not even bother to audition. In the concert group, I
would advance far enough that the director trusted me to be the principal trumpet player, above the
older musicians in my section. When sophomore year came around, I earned first part for marching

Much Ado About Nothing Quote Analysis
In the evaluation of the third act of the play, Much Ado About Nothing written by William
Shakespeare, it is clear and evident that one quote stands out among all the others to show the
most meaning and the most important to the vitality of the third act of the play. In the text,
Shakespeare states, The word is too good to paint out her wickedness. I could say she were
worse. Think you of a worse title, and I will fit her to it. Wonder not till further warrant. Go but
with me tonight, you shall see her chamber window entered, even the night before her wedding day.
If you loveher then, tomorrow wed her. But it would better fit your honor to change your mind
(3.2.102 109). When Don John, the play s infamous villian, decides to trick Claudio into thinking
that Hero is disloyal, it demonstrates the overall feeling of sabotage in the third act, all in
combination with the lie that Don John has created and released among the other characters to try
and inflict sadness on the fiancГ© of Hero, or Claudio. Overall, the critiacal aspect of this quote to

Pros And Cons Of Violent Video Games
Position/Argumentative Essay Should teens be able to buy violent video games? No, teens should
not be able to purchase video games that contain violent content. Violent video games in a person s
early years could result in much, much worse things later on in life. Studies show that violent video
games could result in bullying, criminal activity, or in worse cases, suicide. Games that withhold
violent scenes can result in bullying. Children will see what they are doing in their game, and think
that it would be acceptable to do that type of thing in the real world. They may not be going as far

The Pew Research Center reported in 2008 that ninety seven percent of youth ages twelve to
seventeen played some types of video game, and that two thirds of them played action and
adventure games that tend to contain violent or vulgar content. A separate analysis found that more
than half of all video games rated by the Entertainment Software Rating Board contained violence,
including more than ninety percent of those rated as appropriate for children ten years or older.
Given how common these games are, it is a small wonder that mental health clinicians often find
themselves fielding questions from parents who are worried about the immense impact of violent
video games on their children. , says the Harvard Mental Health Letter (Violent Video Games and
Young People, Harvard Health).Violent video games can, and will often result in criminal activity

Spaying A Stray Cat Research Paper
Tips For Spaying A Stray Or Feral Cat You Want To Adopt
If you take in a stray or feral cat, you may have difficulty getting the cat to adjust to indoor life. If
you let the cat continue to stay outside most of the time, she may end up having litter after litter of
kittens. Prevent this by having your cat spayed. You can find affordable places to have catsspayed,
so even if you don t intend to keep the cat as an indoor pet, you ll help control the feral cat
population and possibly save your cat from injury and health complications of being in heat and
having kittens in the wild. Here are a few things to know about spaying your stray cat.
Train The Cat To Get In A Carrier
You ll need to get the cat in a carrier to take her to a vet s office. You can partially tame the cat by
slowly getting closer and closer at feeding time. If you feed the cat in or near the carrier, you
might be able to lure her inside that way. If not, you may be able to pick her up and put her
inside once she is used to you handling her. Transporting a wild cat in a car won t be fun for you
or the cat, but you can feel good that you re doing the right thing. ... Show more content on

Management Theories
A manager s role is to plan, make decisions, and co ordinate the organising, leading and controlling
of an organisation s resources, in order to achieve organisational goals in an efficient and effective
manner (Davidson, Simon, Woods Griffin, 2009). Management theories from the past can be
utilised by contemporary managers, enabling them to consider a range of perspectives on how to
approach problems, make decisions and develop systems designed to reap the benefits of employees
exhibiting desirable behaviours (Davidson et al, 2009). Despite the common conception that
theories are abstract and irrelevant to practical situations, managementtheories are grounded in
reality (Davidson et al, 2009). Knowledge gained from experiences in the... Show more content on

Managers can learn a lot from the positives and negatives of scientific management. In modern
organisations, increasing efficiency is always a desirable outcome, however case studies involving
scientific management highlight the danger of focussing on efficiency at the expense of employees
satisfaction. Henri Fayol, Max Weber and Chester Barnard were three contributors to administrative
management, the branch of classical management concerned with the organisation as a whole
(Davidson et al, 2009).
Henri Fayol (1841 1925) described fourteen basic principles of management, which provide the
basis for the four basic categories planning, leading, organising and controlling used in most
contemporary management books (Davidson et al, 2009). Under Fayol s system, the management
process goes beyond the basic hierarchical model developed by Taylor. The command function
continues to operate effectively through a series of co ordination and control methods. Regular
managerial meetings were recommended to improve co ordination of organisational operations
(Pindur et al, 1995). Fayol s categorisation of managerial principles is a useful reference point for
contemporary managers to examine their behaviours against (Davidson et al, 1995).
Max Weber is often referred to as the father of bureaucratic management (Pindur et al, 1995). He
developed a system in which individuals were granted occupations and responsibilities within an

And unfortunately, many animals will be unable to adapt to changes, leading to the Earth s next
mass extinction.
When this mass extinction occurs, the Earth will lose a massive amount of its biodiversity.
Biodiversity is the variety of all lifeforms on the planet. And the biggest victims of this loss of
biodiversity would be the coral reefs, the most biodiverse ecosystem on the planet. The ocean
serves as a Carbon Sink , absorbing a large amount of Carbon but when the ocean absorbs too much
Carbon dioxide, it warms and a process known as ocean acidification occurs. The Carbon dioxide
mixes with the water and carbonate in the ocean creating bicarbonate ions (Talk), and when the
ocean gets too acidic, the corals die off, giving off a bleached look thus rending the ecosystem
uninhabitable. Hence the term Coral bleaching, this is huge because coral reefs contain about
25% of the world s marine biodiversity. From a human perspective, the biodiversity loss risk
human security. As many things can recede or disappear like medicines, or food sources may be
harder to obtain as the sources they come may disappear.

COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS OF MEDICAL LABORATORY TESTS Introduction:Management in clinical diagnostic fields are frequently involved in cost analysis of new procedures due to the constantly changing science and technology. Also due to the health care organization especially the diagnostic division being tightly regulated by accreditation and regulatory bodies bringing a new procedure in house requires in depth analysis prior to an any decision being taken. Cost Object:In a clinical laboratory in a small community hospital we currently refer specimens for free PSA (prostatic specific antigen) to a large commercial laboratory. A prominent physician on staff has requested that us to start doing the test in house to improve turnaround time. To do this, we would need to offer a total PSA and a ... Pricing information for the consumables used is available from the utilization reports generated monthly by the finance department. When calculating reagents costs, the cost of the reagent actually used to run a single test is easy to calculate based on the known volume of reagent used and the cost per volume. These numbers are available from information generated by vendors. The cost of calibrators and controls is also available, but the actual cost of these per test can be determined by using the following formula:Cost of total amount usedTotal number of tests performed (using a particular calibration and/or control run time table). E.g. Three levels of control are run once per shift for 9 tests including free PSA and the instrument uses 0.2 ml. of control, the cost of 0.2 ml of control solution is $.91 each. ($.91 X 3) = $ .309Note: Sometimes, when these numbers are very small, they can be included as a factor and not evaluated directly. Factors used in Laboratory labor cost calculations in this laboratory include time required to perform the test as well s wage and benefit cost. The formula used isX +E.g. • 3. Microbial Fuel Cells use bacteria to convert waste into... Microbial Fuel Cells use bacteria to convert waste into electrical energy. These bacteria break down almost any biodegradable organic waste including sewage and water waste and use it as fuel to generate power. Places like Penn State University and The Biodesign Institute in Arizona State University are already testing and improving this new alternative energy. According to Penn State University they have achieved in producing 1.5 watts per meter squared of amount of waste water taken in and believe that a large industrial plant will be able to produce near 0.8 watts per meter squared and will be able to support about 500 homes (9). This is a new technology that is being avidly researched, however it is not currently used in large... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This cell uses bacteria like Shewanella oneidensis and Rhodoferax ferrireducens and many labs are attempting to find better strains of bacteria more suited to the process (3). This fuel cells work in two parts. Basically, the microbial fuel cell has two halves, aerobic and anaerobic. Aerobic means with presence of oxygen, anaerobic means a lack of oxygen. When bacteria consume their food in aerobic conditions they produce carbon dioxide and water, however when it s in an anaerobic condition they produce carbon dioxide, electrons and protons. The MFC has the bacteria put in the anaerobic chamber of the cell and decompose water material that contain glucose and/or acetate. The bacteria also free hydrogen ions and electrons. The electrons flow from an anode into the cathode. The hydrogen ions however just pass through the barrier; soon the electrons and hydrogen ions are in the aerobic chamber and combine with the oxygen forming h2o. The H2O is released and electrical energy is produced from the transfer off the energy between the Anode and Cathode (or Anaerobic and Aerobic chambers). Microbial Fuel Cells have a large variety of benefits due to its versatility and choice of fuel. Firstly it can use most biodegradable organic matter including human and animal waste, sewage, etc. This is great as there is no limit to the fuel and it is easy to find. Secondly, it reduces cost ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Science not only places an important role in the human culture, but it also helps people in multifarious ways in today s world. However, people said that science will hurt human, and they set a block on the scientific road. In the article Enemies of Promise wrote by the professor of microbiology at University of California, San Francisco who named Bishop, Michael J. As the author states, We live in an age of scientific triumph. Science has solved many of nature s puzzles and greatly enlarged human knowledge. Yet despite these proud achievements, science today is increasingly mistrusted and under attack. It is attacked more often because it is misunderstood (Bishop 304). He believes the solution and invention that science provides to us are more than we think; However, people start to focus on the side effects of science instead of the advantages it brings, and the criticism seem like a common practice now. The main cause of this is not only the blindly follow by the ignorant public, but also the fear of find out the truth. Resistance to science is born of the fear. Fear, in turn, is bred by ignorance. And it is ignorance that is our deepest malady (Bishop 308). The main anti science sentiment is the religious community, because they need to protect their belief. They might afraid of the truth that science can find out, because it will shake their base of religion. In the other hands, if those people still criticize science by their fears, our society is going to be a ignorant society. • 5. Research Paper on Anabolic-androgenic Steroids Research Paper on Anabolic androgenic Steroids Anabolic androgenic steroids are a group of hormones, which includes the natural male hormone, testosterone, and a number of synthetic compounds. Anabolic refers to muscle building, while androgenic refers to increased masculine characteristics. Anabolic effects are basically muscle growth. Androgenic effects produce secondary male sex characteristics like facial hair, body hair, deepening of the voice, and so on. In the 1950 s scientists were trying to isolate the muscle building properties without the masculinizing effects. This lead to the development of synthetic anabolic steroids. The word steroid simply means a class of drugs . Steroids are hormones ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Overall steroids are illegal, and dangerous, but they are still used by many people. Steroids go straight to the bloodstream, quicker if they are injected. When taken orally they first go through the liver. Basically steroids work like this: A steroid enters the bloodstream and is carried into the muscle cell by diffusion then it binds to a receptor site. (These are certain areas in a cell that are receptive to free floating molecules in the blood). The connection formed lets the steroid send a message to the receptor site to have some sort of a metabolic change in the cell. This is primarily increased protein synthesis and nitrogen retention (Taylor 143 145). This leads to increased size and strength in the muscle cell. There are a number of ways that anabolic steroids are used including medical uses. Some people take steroids orally, by injection, or by rubbing gels or creams onto skin. Abusers take 10 100 times larger doses than would be prescribed by a doctor (Blue and Lombardo 98). Stacking is a way of using. This means the abuser takes two or more different anabolic steroids. Sometimes they mix oral and injectable types. Some people even use compounds that are used for veterinary uses. These abusers who use stacking think that the effect of the mixing of the drugs will have a greater affect than using them alone. This theory has now been scientifically researched though (Blue and Lombardo ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Essay about Rap and Moral Character Rap and Moral Character In the article Rap and Moral Character by Wesley Cragg and Christine Koggel, the subject of concern is the consequences of listening to rap music and the effects on moral behaviour. The author suggests that rap and moral character are linked and that due to the natural context of rap, it promotes violence, crass materialism, crime, and is misogynistic and therefore corrupts a person s moral character. Based on their claims, the authors take the position that rap should be censured morally. In this paper, I will examine the authors claims, their reasoning, and their use of concepts. By doing so, I will be able to demonstrate that their thesis (rap corrupts moral character and deserves moral censure) is unjust... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This claim may seem to be fine if it stood by itself. However, in this context, the author is saying that everyone who listens to rap is bad, corrupt, and engages in criminal activities. In other words, the authors are saying that they are bad. This claim is loaded and assumes that everyone who listens to this type of music is bad because through the whole article, they talk about how rap disrupts moral character and how it leads to bad things. This can also be classified as a hasty generalization. This is a hasty generalization because the authors generalize beyond the limits of the population (implying that everyone who listens to rap is a certain type of person). The authors make another fallacious claim right after the hasty generalization claim. The claim Seeking out such material is like seeking out and choosing to watch portrayals of atrocities, such as rapes, executions, and real life violence, all of which are available in our culture and on the Internet is a prime example of Red Herring. Red Herring is used to divert attention away from an argument/claim to something more acceptable and easy to explain. • 9. The Importance Of A Hydroponics And Aquaculture Gardening... Investigation and Planning When contemplating multiple concepts, I ended up deciding that my topic for my personal project is building and maintaining an aquaponics garden. An aquaponics garden is the combination of hydroponics and aquaculture. These terms simply refer to the soil less growing of plants, and the raising and growing of fish in one system. Hydroponics and aquaculture combine together to creating a single, thriving ecosystem. Aquaculture raises the fish that eventually become large enough to be consumed by humans for nutritional value, and the gill bearing aquatic animals provide the waste that the plants use as fertilizer. A PowerPoint grants me the ability to provide slides with full descriptions of what I will do and pictures as my supporting details. Scientific and technical innovation is the global context that most precisely describes my topic. When adopting the challenge of a fully functioning ecosystem, I questioned myself as to why I would want to do this. What came to my mind constantly was the reoccurring thought of wanting to help the environment. This subcategory explains that the impact of scientific advances is major on the environment, and this was the original peak of my interest on my topic. The ability to make my own ecosystem with the new advances stops the growing of weeds, the attack of pests on plants, and back pain from gardening, Scientific innovation has eliminated the hassle of gardening, in essence. My prior knowledge on this topic and influences are extensive. My father first thought of wanting to create a project he could do in his free time. He ended up pulling me into the task, and we thought of an aquaponics garden. We both were infatuated with the idea, having both a heavy interest in the science and agricultural field. The topic explored the depths of both of our minds and our interests. This influenced me by thinking of how I could modify this project. This time I would do it on my own and make a smaller model. Prior to creating my miniature model, I knew what materials would be needed. Also, the knowledge of how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are two types of jailbreak you can perform on your iPhone, and they are a tethered jailbreak and an untethered jailbreak. 1) Tethered jailbreak: This method is not recommended, as it requires you to jailbreak your iPhone by connecting it to your computer every time you switch off your phone or if the battery dies. Next, many consumers believe that drinking diet soda is healthier for you than drinking regular soda filled with sugar but studies are starting to show that artificial sweeteners may actually lead to diabetes. Mary Ann Yantis, PhD, RN, a nurse educator for Nursing Education Consultants and Kate Hunter, RD, LD (2010), a clinical dietitian at Adventist Medical Center reports (2010) that drinking more than one serving of diet soda per day can increase your risk of metabolic syndrome by more than 36%. Metabolic syndrome is a group of risk factors, which includes hypertension, abdominal obesity, hyperglycemia and hypertriglyceridemia. These risk factors increase a person s risk of developing diabetes, heart disease and stroke. This same study also reports (2010) that one diet soda per day can increase a person s risk of developing type 2 diabetes by more the 67%. This is possibly due to the fact that artificial sweeteners can be up to 13,000 times sweeter than sugarand this intense sweetness can be addictive thus creating cravings for more sweetness in order to feel satisfied. Yantis and Hunter (2010) point out that the sweet taste triggers the same dopamine signals that are also triggered by drugs such as cocaine and heroin. Craving for more intense artificial sweetness will result in consuming more calories, increase the likelihood of developing insulinresistance, and more than likely affect the glucose metabolism (Yantis Hunter, 2010). • 18. Psychological Characters In Angela Duckworth s Grit One may wonder, what indeed makes one successful and what has an effect on our psychological traits? Angela Duckworth, in her non fiction book Grit, attempts to answer this question by making the claim that grit, talent, and all other psychological traits relevant to success in life are influenced by genes and also by experience .(82). Duckworth supports her claim through the use of anecdotal stories and researchreferencing studies conducted by researchers. One example Duckworth uses includes the Flynn Effect, (83) attributed to Jim Flynn. He analyzed IQ scores and its rapid growth through the decades to explain how it is socially multiplied. In general, Duckworth attempts to convince the audience that the characteristics making up a person come from one s genes as well as personal experiences. I am in agreement with Duckworth s claim, because I have found multiple sources of evidence that supports it. Also, her claim is the only logical explanation for our developing psychological traits and its effect towards success. First we must explore the Flynn Effect and what it means to us as a society. People as a whole advance over time because of the world around us and the The Flynn effect is a sound example of that. I believe in this Flynn Effect because Jim Flynn makes logical sense out of the rapidly increasing IQ scores. Some advantages that come with a credit card include building up your credit score, keeping your cash safe in case you lose your card, and reward programs. Credit cards can be extremely bad if you allow yourself to build up debt. It is extremely easy to build up debt. That s because many credit cards have high interest rates, which means the amount owed can quickly snowball out of control. Everyday commodities have slowly been increasing in price. One of the biggest drivers of our credit card debt is that cost of living has been outpacing income growth. Pros And Cons Of Blablism With Japan s economy coming in at the third largest in world its economic success has often been credited to the distinctive corporate business systems that it favours. Following the First World War Japan experienced huge economic growth which was known as the post war miracle due to the increased focus on industrial and economic goals rather than defence spending. However, this era of booming economic growth passed with its growth of gradually beginning to slow down and stabilise. This, in turn, led to Japan s economic recession and so called bubble economy which led Japan into its lost decade, with Japan struggling to sustain economic growth since the burst of the bubble economy. Although having recovered Japan s economy has never seemed to return to what it once was, with the unemployment rate steadily climbing and national debt increasing. Consequently, could this slowing of growth be due to Japans reluctance to engage in major organisational restructuring and avoid radical innovation? In this essay I will be exploring this idea further by looking at key features of the traditional Japanese businessmodel and exploring some of the darker sides of BLABALBL. I will then go on to look at the vari TOYOTISM FORDISM? • 33. Piaget s Psychological Analysis The theorist Erik Erikson once said: There is in every child at every stage a new miracle of vigorous unfolding, which constitutes a new hope and a new responsibility for all. Human development follows a sequence of achievements; yet, the exact age and time when it will transpire is unpredictable. In contrast to what Piaget believed, today s psychologist promote the thought that children master certain goals at various ages, rather than following an exact blueprint. To support this belief, one needs to deeply analyze Piaget s four cognitive stages of development. Thus, scrutinizing in debt each individual phase will result in accurate conclusions. Observing children in their natural habitat, taking note of their behaviors and reactions to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Piaget has predicted, the children all agreed that they now have more liquid in their glasses since their cup is taller. To further support this theory, I administered my own experiment. I had the children look at a chair across a room and say if it is possible for them to touch it from their current position. They all agreed that it is impossible. Thereafter, I told them to focus on the object through a pair of binoculars and see if they can reach it now. Instantly, the children, with outstretched arms, exclaimed that of course they can since now it is within their distance. This experiment further supports Piaget s study. Although Jean Piaget proved his four stages and experimented in debt to reach a conclusion, observationists nowadays often contradict his facts and prove some errors. Hence, the sequence of the developments are usually accurate, the age base that Piaget assigned them to is underestimated. Children far younger than the suggested ages grasp concepts that Piaget believed unattainable at those years. Povinelli s Mirror Self-Recognition Of Asian Elephants Gordon Gallup Jr. was the first to hypothesize a connection between mirror self recognition and empathy by studying evidence of great apes comforting each other. Elephants are highly empathetic as they support and care for one another in their herds. They can see when something is wrong with a fellow elephantand try to help. This makes them a perfect candidate for the mirror self recognition test. Povinelli saw this and conducted an experiment in 1989 using elephants. Years late in 2006 Plotnik conducted a similar experiment and recognized errors made in Povinelli s with the size and placement of the mirror and health of the elephants used, both ran into the problem of the elephants seeing the marks as inconsequential. In some occasions, this force can be useful such as in the case where vehicles are making turns. In these cases, the frictional forces provide the needed force to stay on the track. In this experiment, we used a force sensor and a computer to determine the friction of a sliding block with and without different masses on it. Procedure Description of setup We connected the force sensor to the labquest, and from the latter to the computer. A string was then tied to the hook on the woodblock and the other end to the force sensor s hook. Photo below. The range switch on the force sensor was set to 10N. After this, the logger pro was launched and the setup was zeroed. To zero the setup, there had to be no tension in the string; then we hit the Р¤ looking button to zero. Outline of technique It was necessary to know the mass of the woodblock throughout this experiment. So, its mass was weighed and recorded in the table below. A 1 kg mass was then, placed on the top of the woodblock. From here, we were ready to pull the force sensor and see what results we get on the graphs. A small force was applied to the force sensor and then pulled hard enough to set the system in motion. The pulling was continued for some time and it was done steadily and at the same pace. Moreover, since clinker production is a major for energy input, emission potential, product quality and cost in cement plants, toxic pollutants were released from physical and chemical reactions of the raw materials and fuels of this cement kiln system (EEA, 2009). In line with this, cement production contributes about 10% to the total global mercury emissions (Marquita, 2010). Additionally, Oss and Padovani (2002) stated that the environmental issues of cement manufacturing is related to general mining and mineral processing as local, regional and global problem. These are local problems such as dust, ground subsidence, noise, vibrations, chemical contamination, tailings spills, scenic and local ecologic degradation, and health problems among miners. The regional scale problems are acid rain and contamination of surface and/or groundwater, spills of processing chemicals and stream sediment loading. This may cause a potential migration of pilots that would lead to many U.S. airlines having planes but no one qualified to fly them. Further contributing to the shortage is that the cost to become a pilot is already expensive, causing low interest in the field; this law would make it even worse. By calculation, if a potential pilot were to start today, he would probably be facing a debt of between $50,000 and $80,000 just to receive the flight training required to gain 250 hours (Chatterjee). Added to this is the cost of attending a college with an accredited program. Potential pilots could be looking at paying well over $200,000 in loans to be able to fly. Before this law passed, pilots were assured that if they worked hard and passed through all the training received from college and flight school they would be able to become a pilot with one of the regional carriers and make a small salary while obtaining the required hours for one of the major carriers. • 52. Management Theories A manager s role is to plan, make decisions, and co ordinate the organising, leading and controlling of an organisation s resources, in order to achieve organisational goals in an efficient and effective manner (Davidson, Simon, Woods Griffin, 2009). Management theories from the past can be utilised by contemporary managers, enabling them to consider a range of perspectives on how to approach problems, make decisions and develop systems designed to reap the benefits of employees exhibiting desirable behaviours (Davidson et al, 2009). Despite the common conception that theories are abstract and irrelevant to practical situations, managementtheories are grounded in reality (Davidson et al, 2009). Knowledge gained from experiences in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Managers can learn a lot from the positives and negatives of scientific management. In modern organisations, increasing efficiency is always a desirable outcome, however case studies involving scientific management highlight the danger of focussing on efficiency at the expense of employees satisfaction. Henri Fayol, Max Weber and Chester Barnard were three contributors to administrative management, the branch of classical management concerned with the organisation as a whole (Davidson et al, 2009). Henri Fayol (1841 1925) described fourteen basic principles of management, which provide the basis for the four basic categories planning, leading, organising and controlling used in most contemporary management books (Davidson et al, 2009). Under Fayol s system, the management process goes beyond the basic hierarchical model developed by Taylor. The command function continues to operate effectively through a series of co ordination and control methods. Regular managerial meetings were recommended to improve co ordination of organisational operations (Pindur et al, 1995). Fayol s categorisation of managerial principles is a useful reference point for contemporary managers to examine their behaviours against (Davidson et al, 1995). Max Weber is often referred to as the father of bureaucratic management (Pindur et al, 1995). He developed a system in which individuals were granted occupations and responsibilities within an ... With these stronger storms comes massive economically and environmentally damage that could be on the scale or even larger than storms like Hurricane Katrina (which caused over 120 billion dollars in damage). Of course, the increased global temperature would also change the weather patterns, potentially affecting many regions. When this mass extinction occurs, the Earth will lose a massive amount of its biodiversity. Biodiversity is the variety of all lifeforms on the planet. And the biggest victims of this loss of biodiversity would be the coral reefs, the most biodiverse ecosystem on the planet. The ocean serves as a Carbon Sink , absorbing a large amount of Carbon but when the ocean absorbs too much Carbon dioxide, it warms and a process known as ocean acidification occurs. The Carbon dioxide mixes with the water and carbonate in the ocean creating bicarbonate ions (Talk), and when the ocean gets too acidic, the corals die off, giving off a bleached look thus rending the ecosystem uninhabitable. Hence the term Coral bleaching, this is huge because coral reefs contain about 25% of the world s marine biodiversity. From a human perspective, the biodiversity loss risk human security.
