The Hindu Temple Of India
The white Hindu temple stood quietly against the chaos that surrounded it in Agra, India. The marble
that made up the building was stunningly clean compared to the streets that were filled with holes and
dirt. The car horns and movement of people coming from their jobs that Friday created chaos around
the building. The temple was made up of a square base with 4 domes at the top, similar to those of the
Taj Mahal, except much smaller. Sculptures of Indian deities and revered images were chiseled all
over the exterior of the temple. There were oxes and cows at the bottom of the temple. Farther up the
building were the hundreds of Hindu Gods that existed were depicted. Each had at least 4 or 6 arms
and were each standing in powerful stances ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After entering through the gates people began to take off their shoes and leave them in a pile next to
the entrance of the gate. Sunil and Sindhu followed in suit, but Sunil passed his younger sister his
shoes which she placed in her bag, alongside her own. Leaving your shoes in the pile meant they
would likely be stolen. The women began to place scarfs around their heads, a sign of reverence to the
Gods.
Sindhu began to wonder around the temple staring up at the building. Sunil grabbed at her arm and
gave her a warning look, Sindhu, apane skaarph ko rakho, Put on your scarf, he said in a hushed voice.
Sindhu sighed and took out a red scarf from her bag and placed it over her head. She hated the way it
made her feel suffocated and overheated.
The siblings began walking around the temple, as they were still some time before Puja was going to
start. Sindhu pointed to a statue of Durga, a goddess who was warrior known in Hindu mythology as a
powerful women who fight off demons and maintained the peace. She was depicted with six arms
standing on top of a demonic cow she had slayed. Her face was cut off. Sunil, what happened to her
face? exclaimed Sindhu to her older brother in a thick Indian accent. Dheere bolo. Speak softly, Sunil
said angrily.
Ab angrej yahaan the to ve mandir aate the aur devataon ke chehare ko dhvast kar dete the. vahaan

Rhetorical Analysis of Ellen DeGeneres s Commencement...
Ellen s Commencement Speech Rhetorical Analysis Graduation caps fly into the air, cheers erupt, and
diplomas are received. This is a typical graduation day. Not only did these ceremonial events take
place for Tulane University s class of 2009, but Ellen DeGeneres was there to congratulate them as
well! This class was dubbed the Katrina Class for being survivors of the devastating Hurricane Katrina
in 2005. Katrina was named one of the deadliest Hurricanes, causing more than 1,836 deaths. Tulane
University is located in New Orleans, Louisiana, where the most significant amount of deaths took
place and 80 percent of the city was destroyed. These graduates have survived a lot , and Ellen wants
to congratulate them on their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most graduates have a lot of stress and worry about their futures, the uncertainty of where they are
going or what they will become. Ellen is relatable when she tells the graduates how she didn t know
who shes was, considering that, she was still dating men. Another use of a rhetorical question But why
am I here today? to introduce an anecdote about her growing up in New Orleans. This question takes
the audience s attention back to her, because, consequently, they know that Ellen will explain why she
is there; giving them a reason to listen to her words. Once again, Ellen asks What else can happen to
you? in order to commend the graduates of having success after the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina. She
uses the hyperbole and rhetorical question, So what I m saying is, when you re older, a lot of you will
be gay. Anyone writing this stuff down? Parents? this keeps everybody s attention and loops the
parents into relating the commencement speech to them as well. Rhetorical questions help Ellen by
giving the crowd small moments to reflect and invites them into her speech, connecting to them and
allowing them to smile during serious content.
Furthermore, the use of hyperbole and metaphors are effective in this commencement speech. Ellen
uses a hyperbole when she rationalizes her anxiety about the success of her sitcom after the public
realize that she is gay. Ellen worried about this because in recent times, the

What Is The Theme Of The God Of Small Things
The God of Small Things opens with memories of a family mourn around a drowned child s
sarcophagus. There are countless examples of miserable sequences in the novel. Throughout the story,
all characters are portrayed in a very sympathetic manner. The reader gets morally strenuous and
remains perplexed all the way at its agonizing finish.
The God of Small Things is a family saga taking of a remote village in central Travancore region of
South Kerala, the rustic idyll set in the author s childhood and told endearingly through the stream of
consciousness of a small girl. The story is purely autobiographical. In the novel, the writer breaks the
regular sequence of events and allows them to the sad fate of Ammu shared by her two egg twins,
Rahel and Estha. The theme of doomed love between Ammu, the Syrian Christian, Velutha, ... Show

Moreover, they suffer from a feeling of guilt towards the children, in the present novel The God of
small Things, Ammu, the protagonist of the novel losses everything (children, husband, family respect
in the society, even her life) by her self centered personality, desires and woman s sexuality. However,
it is observed that in the present generation women are ignorant to ethical values, In the way of
searching self identity they are prone to make mistakes. The misdeeds cause misery in their lives.
Towards the ending that misery becomes destruction or wreck in the total family. A mother can build
or damage her life by her deeds. Indian mythology has many women who don their roles as mother
and wife, who ultimately succeed. The situation is quite contradictory in the present scenario with the
changing roles, values, expectations and demands of the society on a

Denzel Washington Character Traits
Who does not know Denzel Washington? If you don t then slap yourself in the head. Denzel
Washington is the greatest actor of all time and his work shows it off. The actor has played in
innumerable movies such as The Equalizer, American Gangster, and much more. In the nationwide
wide movie, The Magnificent Seven, Denzel Washington played the leader of a western pack of
bandits that came together as one and played the role phenomenally well. As Denzel Washington plays
Chisolm in the movie he portrays his realistic charisma which makes him impeccable for any role he
plays throughout his acting career. The emotions and passion he brings out in his role in The
Magnificent Seven were outstanding especially because it is a remake of the classic old version. ...

Why? The audience view as him being a protector, giving guidance, or a leader to adolescences. Even
though the audience views him as such a perfect man, this character he played was the perfect role for
him. In those scenes where he had to kill and to blast people it was shocking but quite entertaining. He
s giving the audience something to look forward to a scene after scene which has the audience on edge
of what is going to happen next. In the movie, it was a scene where Chisolm played by Denzel
Washington had a talk with one of the members named Jack played by Vincent D Onofrio about
giving up should not be an option even if it is hard. It portrayed Denzel Washington sympathy and
connection towards his fellow members of the group. It was admirable for him to give words of
encouragement and care for someone that barely wanted to be in any part of the group. Looking at the
motion picture on bigger screen proves how he carries himself in real life because the role was well

Sigmund Freud s Theory Of Psychoanalysis
This passage from Psycho analysis, Sigmund Freud s essay detailing the origins, methods, and
applications of his theory of psychoanalysis, reveals the utility of his approach in understanding what
lies beneath the surface through the interpretation of dreams, which later psychoanalytic critics related
to the interpretation of literature. Freud s description of his psychoanalytic theory considers it an
approach to unlocking knowledge that is impossible to discover through prior methods of psychology
and that is applicable across all areas of the sciences and humanities. Here, students of Freud s theory
can find correlations between psychoanalysis to both structuralism and deconstruction through his
method of interpreting dreams, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this way, psychoanalysis is a hermeneutics of suspicion as the analyst must delve beyond the
conscious and superficial qualities of the mind and tap into the unresolved, repressed, and often
unknown process of the unconscious mind. This phrase, coined by Paul Ricouer, displays the use of
theories as a means to interpret not the normalities but the abnormalities within both life and literature.
In explaining psychoanalysis, Parker describes Freud s idea of the unconscious as something more
radical, something not just underneath awareness but utterly without awareness (114). For most
people, as they find their place within their society, they suppress the unconscious underneath cultural
expectations of normal human behavior. However, the unconscious desires and motivations of the
human mind continue to affect behavior in ways that are often unrealized and uncontrollable. What
other people see on the surface are these neuroses or symptoms that cannot be fully controlled and,
according to Freud, are significant substitutes for other mental acts which have been omitted (184).
Through sessions with a patient, the analyst discovers a common source deep within the unconscious
that explains the analysand s neuroses. Neuroses, affecting both normal and abnormal minds, are the
symptoms of the unconscious which breaks through the defenses of the conscious mind. For some,
these symptoms are common parapraxes in

A Summary Of Trauma
Devastating effects, harboring memories, mental and emotional distress lingered with a victim long
after the traumatic experience. Children can lose the ability to control their behaviors and emotions
due to traumatic triggers. Children who have experience trauma develop implicit memories. Robin
Grill (2003) described these memories as, What we don t remember with our minds, we remember
with our bodies, with or hearts and our guts with lasting implications for our thinking, feeling, and
behavior (p. 1). Many of these subconscious memories and feelings are difficult to put into words. It is
imperative for social workers and teachers to use nonverbal methods to communicate with children
and students of trauma. Many children do not have the appropriate vocabulary to articulate feelings or
describe traumatic events. Teachers can use art therapy as a method to communicate and explore the
meanings of traumatic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Teachers must become aware and address fulfilling a child s physiological and safety needs. The next
step is to use methods and techniques that allow children to open up, communicate, and express
themselves and their traumatic experiences. Past psychologists and therapists have used art to explore
the trauma of children, helped children discuss and deal with emotional distress, and build rapport and
empathy with patients (Kuban, 2015). Today, art is used as a tool for assessing children s emotional,
behavioral, and social development, as well as therapy to analyze and communicate traumatic
experiences. Through the creative process, children are able to make sense of their world. Art is one of
the first ways a child expresses themselves, they are familiar and comfortable with the methods of art
a very young age. Social workers and teachers must identify best art based interventions that
appropriately fit the needs of their young clients to develop beneficial

Compare And Contrast Theseus And Oedipus
While I was analyzing the two Greek heroes Theseus and Oedipus origins, it became obvious that they
share quite a few differences and similarities as is common amongst heroes in Greek mythology. The
first similarity I found the two heroes shared was the love and honor their subjects regarded their kings
with. Theseus was revered for his strategic planning and how he used his power to create an equal
ruling between the power of the king and his people. He was acknowledged as one of the first leaders
to create a Democracy, allowing his people to have a say into how the kingdom is ruled. I myself, will
be your leader in wars, and at all times the protector of laws, but beyond this all my fellow citizens
shall have equal rights with me (216). By allowing the inhabitants of Attica to access part of the power
of the king, Theseus knew that his subjects would abide by this ruling because of the value and gain
they would receive from becoming a united community. I feel this peaceful treaty between the two
dynamics; the rich and the poor shows that Theseus was an intelligent and courageous king worthy of
the equal amounts of love and fear the king instilled in the city of Athens. The way Theseus resolved
the issue between the two class systems leads me to believe that Theseus admirers rigid structure and
control but since he is willing to give some of his power to the citizens of Athens in order to keep
peace, he became known as a peaceful ruler instead of a forceful tyrant.

done in a way that was easy to follow and comprehend. The producers also did a great job on allowing

The Apology By Socrates, The Inquisitive Catalyst
Socrates, the Inquisitive Catalyst
The Apology in The Trials of Socrates is a translation of the defense Socrates makes at the trial where
he is charged with not believing in the gods recognized by the state, inventing new beliefs and modes
of thinking, and corrupting the youth of Athens. Socrates speech is more him trying to defend his logic
rather than an actual apology in our understanding of the word.
So, Socrates attempts to defend himself and his actions rather than actually apologize for it. He
explains that he has no experience with the law courts and that he will instead speak in an honest and
straight forward manner. He believes that his arrogant wisdom was conceived when a prophecy by an
oracle claimed that he was the wisest of all men. Knowing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It may be against the law, but they are fighting for what they believe in and are spreading the message
of what is actually the just action in the scenario. Like Socrates, they are putting the perseverance of
the greater good in front of their own lives. For example, in 2013, the World War II memorials were
closed off due to the government shutdown, which enraged veterans everywhere. The government was
viewed as doing this only to make a statement concerning legislation funds, but in turn cost millions
of
American workers their pay. These protests shot up everywhere to bring to light the selfishness and
unjust reasons for the shutdown. It may not have been legal, but people marched down to the
memorials and protested this action because they believe in what is just, and that you cannot shut
down what is not yours to begin with just to make a statement. The protesters acted as a gadfly of their
own in that they tried to open up the eyes of the government to see the harm and anger they are

Social Media And Its Impact On The United States
The United States of America can be seen as one of the most countries to be tech savvy. Specifically,
with social media, which is used as a medium to communicate movements such Black Lives Matter
due to the usage of unnecessary force from police used on Black Americans, has made an impact in
Iran. Similarly, to the US movement, accusations of fraud during the June 2009 Iranian presidential
elections caused protests and many citizens asking for a recount. Many Iranian citizens, however, do
not have access to the internet nor any other social media sites so they are not able to access social
media to fully understand what events were going on in Iran. Some would say social media did not

Both candidates gathered the huge amount of citizens, creating huge rallies. However, what if the
winner of the election, gathered an outrageous amount of votes which would create confusion on the
opposition but happiness for the adversary. The Iranian government says Ahmadinejad won the ballot
with 63 percent of the vote while Moussavi received 34 percent of the vote (Matsuo par 2). Because of
this announcement: fights, protests, and riots occurring dividing the country instead of bringing it
together. While Ahmadinejad is requesting peace from protestors, however, showing an unfamiliar
way of it by using local police at times to keep the protestors calm as well as use his control over
government to stop certain media.
Social media is crucial when it comes to communication in comparison to the more common
traditional media Iran has during this election for those who oppose Ahmadinejad. Many traditional
media such as television and newspaper are state run by an appointed member that is selected by the
supreme leader (Fathi par 17). This happens to be Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who favors current
President Ahmadinejad. However, since the use of the internet along with wireless technology, it has
become much more widespread among young and affluent Iranians, who happen to be the bulk of the
candidates supporters against Ahmadinejad. Christopher Waddell, associate director of the school of

Meg Rosoff and How I Live Now Essay
Meg Rosoff, author of How I Live Now, used external and internal conflict as well as mood to portray
the theme, that together nothing bad can happen. Rosoff put together these elements in her novels to
teach her readers this lesson. Rosoff is described as a cross over writer and does not reflect on the
cultural dumbing down, where adults tend to lose themselves in a childish fantasy where book sare
written for the teenage group of kids. In Boston Massachusetts during the late 1950 s Med Rosoff was
born. Rosoff was born into the Ashkenazi heritage to her mother and father. Her father a former
surgeon, worked at Harvard University teaching medicine. Her mother was a psychiatric social
worker. Together they all lived in the suburbs of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Three months after this meeting, Rosoff had finished the first draft of How I Live Now (Vincent).
There were three main novels that Rosoff won several awards for. Her first novel How I Live Now
was published in 2004. This novel won several awards including The Orange Fiction Prize. In 2006,
Rosoff s novel Just In Case was published. This novel, soon after being published, won a single
award. This award was the 2007 Carnegie Medal. Lastly, her latest novel What I Was was published in
2007and won two awards. These awards were the 2007 Costa Children s Book Award and the 2008
Carnegie Medal (Penguin). Rosoffs genera of work is fiction. Her novels most relate to young adults
such as teenagers. Rosoffs novel How I Live Now is first person point of view. In this novel Daisy is
the narrator. The setting of the story changes a couple times throughout the novel. Though the setting
changes the main setting changes from quiet and content to hectic due to the soldiers, But no one was
happy now, and there were a lot of stupid brave country folk armed with duck hunting rifles taking pot
shots at tanks and most of the time getting slaughtered for the trouble (Rosoff 113). Finally at the end
of the book everything goes back to being quiet and content again, mainly because the war is over at
that point. The major conflict of How I Live Now is in the form of man verse society. Daisy, as well as
her cousins, has to face society. As they all are trying to

The Extinction of The Dinosaurs
Extinction of Dinosaurs Many different theories exist as to why the dinosaurs went extinct. We know
for sure most dinosaurs died out around 65 million years ago. The majority of scientists agree on a
number of theories as to what brought the end of the dinosaurs. The most popular theory is that an
asteroid ended the reign of the dinosaurs. Another theory, massive climate change in the pre historic
atmosphere, caused all the dinosaurs to die. Some scientists believe that mammals out competed
dinosaurs for food and other resources. The last theory that dinosaurs died due to a large amount of
volcanism comes up in scientists list of theories as well. Many different theories of why dinosaurs
went extinct include extinction by asteroid, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The power and magnitude of the asteroid is greater than we could ever imagine. If all the world s
atomic weapons went off simultaneously it still wouldn t cause as much damage as this asteroid did
(Erdman). The enormous impact forced large clouds of dust into the air, these clouds blocked the sun
causing darkness and extreme climate changes ( What Killed the Dinosaurs ). Out of all the extinction
theories the asteroid theory has the most evidence backing it up. As time movies by layers of rock
form in the Earth s crust. The rock formed in the layer around formed the time of extinction contains
abnormally large amounts of iridium, a metal found only in asteroids (Erdman). Another piece of
evidence found in the rock is impact ejecta. Impact ejecta results from an explosion instantly melting
bedrock and throwing it into the air. An abundance of impact ejecta in the rock layer formed near the
dinosaur s extinction suggests that a large asteroid destroyed the dinosaurs ( What Killed the
Dinosaurs ). Scientists can locate a layer of rock that formed during extinction because all fossils of a
certain species show up under or in a rock layer but never above ( What Killed the Dinosaurs ). The
crater like shape of the area, the layer rick in iridium and the age of the rocks all lend weight to the
theory ( Eden Channel ). Figure

Flood Case Study
Other Factors Contributing to the Flood
The Arun and Sunkosi sub catchments of the upper catchment area contribute to the intensity of
floods, with the former possessing highest surface runoff potential (Wakode et al., 2013). As the Kosi
River exits at the base of the mountain, the ability to transport sediment is dampened, leading to
deposition of sediment and aggradation (Kale, 2008). High silt content in the river was due to soil
erosion and landslides and the presence of narrow gorges (Wakode et al., 2013). The construction of
the eastern embankment increased aggradation on the western side of the river, making the
embankment vulnerable to breaching (Sinha, 2009). Furthermore, Chakraborty et al (2010) noted that
avulsion was more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are more deadly than ordinary floods because they intensify the moment the dams and
embankments experience failures and breaches respectively (Singh and Kumar (2013); Singh and
Kumar, 2017). The high discharge of water from rivers can cause extensive damage to life and
property (Singh Kumar, 2017), both of which include livestock, croplands and public utilities (i.e.
electricity, telephones, and roads) (Singh Kumar, 2013). For instance, a lot of agricultural land was
rendered uncultivable because the flood had transported and deposited excess sediment (Chakraborty
et al., 2010).
Singh and Kumar (2013) noted that millions of people in India are affected by flash floods yearly. In
this regard, it can be deduced that countless people were displaced, many villages were flooded, and
Bihar s infrastructure was compromised (Kale, 2008). While there have been no reliable estimate of
deaths and loss of properties for the flood event, it can be said that more than 30 million people were
affected (Sinha, 2009). The 2008 flood was an unprecedented human misery due to increased
population density (Kale, 2008).
Short term Solution Set in Motion
Sometime in January 2009, the breach in the eastern embankment was repaired (Sinha et al., 2013).
On the 26th of January 2009, the Kosi River returned to its former stream channel, with the river
being once again confined (Sinha, 2009), as if the flood had never

An Ethical Case Study On End Of Life Care
To Feed or Not to Feed: An Ethical Case Study on End of Life Care
Before the advancement of medical technology to prolong the lives of patients with lethal conditions,
end of life care did not involve many discussions of ethics or morals. Even just a hundred years ago, it
was common to speak of letting nature run its course. Today, patients and their relatives have many
more options to utilize medical devices in hospital intensive care units to prolong life, whether that
entails resuscitation, ventilation, or artificial feeding and hydration. As Alan Meisel, director of the
Center for Bioethics and Health Law at the University of Pittsburgh, notes, While the fact of death
remains inevitable, its timing is often very much a function of ... Show more content on

The patient was already living with one of her daughters who is a nurse, John s elder sister, and
continued to be cared for by her daughter. However, a few months later in late May, the patient
suffered a second stroke, which rendered the remaining two functioning limbs paralyzed. In addition,
she lost the ability to eat, talk, or drink. She could not move her head either, and she could not
swallow anything, John stated, My mom was so sick. We didn t even know if she could recognize
anyone or not. She could open her eyes, but she had lost a lot of vision even before the strokes. It
looked like she could make some small expressions on her face, but we could not really tell. Most of
the time she kept her eyes closed. She could maybe hear us, because when my siblings called out to
her that I had returned home, we saw her open her eyes and kind of look at me. She looked at me and
had some facial expression. John continued, We tried to feed her water and liquidized foods, but
because she could not swallow or move her mouth, we had to force it down, and she coughed often
when we tried this. We thought maybe the force feeding was causing some of the food to go into her
respiratory tract, which was bad. We felt very, very helpless.
There were three options that John s family considered regarding how to proceed with care for the
patient in this stage of dire health. The first option was to place her in the

8 Man Football Team Case Study
Imagine if East Jordan Middle High School (EJMHS) had an 8 man football team. We could have
great opportunities come our way. EJMHS must have an 8 man football team to lessen injuries,
improve our record, and better player stats. First of all, switching to an 8 man football team would
give the team more subs. One reason we would have more subs is because of three less men on the
field. In fact, since we only have 8 on the field, players get more breaks as needed. More players on
the sideline could cheer on the players on the field. Therefore, we would have more subs on the
sideline. Additionally, more subs on the sideline could keep the coaches calmed down. As you may
have noticed, coaches can get fired up, but more players could stop them from getting the team a
penalty. Subs could also stop our team from getting penalties. If someone is too far back the team
could yell out to them to move up. Obviously, one could see that switching to an 8 man football team
puts more subs on the sideline. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only having 8 players on the field means that those 8 players have a way better advantage of making a
play. In fact, With only 8 the players can get more yards and more tackles. When there are only 8

would increase because of more pressure on those players. They have more responsibilities to do on
the field. Also, in order to increase stats, players need to put more effort into the game. To summarize,

The Plate Tectonics Of New Zealand
Study of the plate tectonics of New Zealand has been undertaken since the early 1800s, however the
most notable discovery regarding the plate tectonic setting was made in the 1940s by Harold Wellman,
who discovered the Alpine Fault. Since then, our knowledge of the plate tectonic setting of New
Zealand has been vastly expanded, leading to our present day understanding of the topic. A large part
of our present day knowledge of the plate tectonic setting has been gained through the study of active
faulting the visible and measurable signs of fault line activity and their ruptures. Our current
understanding is that the country sits on the boundary of the Australian and the Pacific plate. The
nature of this boundary changes depending on the area of the country studied, from strike slip to
convergent. Evidence from active faulting can be used to prove the nature of this boundary on land by
studying both the North and South Island Fault Systems. South Island Fault System The Alpine Fault
is a clear starting point for analysis of the plate tectonic setting of NZ. It is the most visually obvious
sign of tectonic activity in NZ as it is responsible for the creation of the Southern Alps, a 500
kilometre long chain of mountains which stretch from the Nelson Lakes to Milford. These mountains
sit to the eastern side of the fault as they are created by the Australian plate acting as a rigid indentor,
buckling the weaker crust of the Pacific plate (Sutherland et al., 2000, 2009 as cited

Analyse the differences between creative learning and creativity.
Creative learning is about how children are actively involved in their own learning, where they are
given the opportunity to make choices and decisions which develops their problem solving skills and
imaginative thinking. It can be achieved through providing a creative environment allowing
exploration through play. For example the construction area, where children are given the opportunity

In order for children to be creative the environment and the experiences they are exposed to will
determine their creative learning and creativity. This is closely linked with cultural approaches and
role modelling.
Cultural approaches
This approach believes that all children can be creative but this will be suppressed if children are not
given the opportunity or supported to explore and be creative in their environment. If children are
given the opportunity to be creative and explore and supported then they will develop their creative
learning and creativity.
Role Modelling
This approach believes that children will learn from watching and being with adults who are being
creative. This means that they need to be shown how to be creative first and watching adults draw and
paint, etc.

These aquatic insects start their lives in the waters of Pine Creek. Mayflies and caddis flies are

At different times in the spring, within minutes hundreds of thousands of these insects break from

Blackwell was settled first in 1811 by Enoch Blackwell, Sr.
Blackwells, as it was known on the early maps, became a busy center for railroading and lumbering
over the years. There are many remnants here of the railroad days.
On the north side of Blackwell, off Blackwell Square, is the original Blackwell church.
Then and now pictures are eerily similar.
(The original picture is in the Darling Run station museum) The Methodist Episcopal Church of
Blackwells was erected in 1892. Here it is now.
(This old photo of Blackwell is courtesy of David Ira Kagan, Pine Creek Villages, Arcadia Publishing)
The old Railroad House was built in 1884 and later became the Barton House hotel building which
still stands next to the rail trail. It can barely be seen in the background in the picture on the previous
page. It was originally a boarding home for railway workers. It also housed a general store and post
office for a time. The Old Barton House Hotel now.
Blackwell is home to a few year round residents and some seasonal camps. The store here is a fine
place to stop for snacks and ice cream. It s just off the trail as the trail crosses Route 414. It is the only
place we can stock up on bottled water as we head south.

The British Colonies
In the 1400s France, Britain, The Dutch and Span were rapidly expanding their empires globally.
These nations were vigorously looking for new sources of income and resources for their nation. Years
previously, these nations participated in extremely costly wars in Europe. These wars, not only had a
negative effect on their citizens morality, they also depleted the governments fiscal positions. The
solution to this (money) problem was to exploit the resources of the New World by setting up colonies
and territories that could send cheap raw material back to their respected countries to be refined into
finished products that in return could be taken to market. The readings from this semester mainly
focused on the evaluation of the British colonies, this is where my focus will steer you. From the birth
of the British settlements, the colonies have under gone several different economic policies changes.
They first started off as a dependant society, to a society with slaves, to finally settling as slave society

Company Background Of The Company
KPMG Company Background
In 2012 the firm purchased the ONESOURCE Indirect Tax Managed Services business of Thomson
Reuters to further enhance its indirect tax compliance services. It made two acquisitions in 2011, as
well. KPMG L.L.P. bought Optimum Solutions, which provides management consulting and
implementation services to companies that use Oracle enterprise software. The move has enabled it to
serve clients with ERP and HR transformation needs. To boost capacity, the company and its UK
affiliate teamed up in 2011 to buy outsourcing advisory firm EquaTerra, adding another revenue
stream. The acquisition follows KPMG L.L.P. s 2010 purchase of the supply chain advisory services
unit of second tier accountancy Grant Thornton.
KPMG has been able to rebound from some past legal troubles. The drawn out drama began in 2005
when the firm admitted to unlawful conduct in an investigation by the Department of Justice. Former
partners of the firm created abusive tax shelters for more than 600 wealthy customers between 1996
and 2002; the unpaid taxes cost the Treasury more than $100 million. KPMG avoided criminal
prosecution by agreeing to pay $456 million in fines, restitution, and penalties. (A criminal indictment
led to the collapse of KPMG s former rival Arthur Andersen.) A federal jury found three ex KPMG
employees guilty in the tax shelter trial in 2008 (a fourth defendant was acquitted). Those former
managers were ordered to pay nearly $10 million in fines and received

Effective And Efficient Use Of Investment Tax Incentives
Executive Summary
It has been observed from past experiences that there is ample room for effective and efficient use of
investment tax incentives in Australia. It was found that tax incentives are does not make much impact
on changing the investment climate and many times tax incentives turned out to be redundant that is,
investment would have been undertaken even without the incentives. The fiscal cost of tax incentives
can be high, reducing opportunities for other required spending like on infrastructure, education and
health care or any other sector.
Effective and efficient use of tax incentives for small businesses requires careful tax designed. Many
times government use income tax exemptions to attract investment or persuade for joint ventures to
attract investments. Good infrastructure, long term effective policies, economic stability etc. are
important for bringing investment. There is a need of have correct taxation policy to really have a
great impact on domestic small business.
Good governance of tax incentives is critical for small business growth. Transparency is necessity of
time to facilitate accountability, providing opportunities for opening business or for extracting
information for rent seekers and to curtail corruption. There are many stakeholders involved in the tax
incentive proposal approval but the best in the ministry of finance that enforced and monitored by the
tax administration. To grant tax incentives it should be based on rules rather than

A myth that many college age users like to believe is that there are numerous ways we can speed up
the process of becoming sober. These commonly believed methods include, drinking coffee, taking a
cold shower or exercising. There is only one way that a drinker can sober up and that is to let the liver
breakdown the alcohol. This process can differ in people depending on their individual rate of
metabolism, but overall this is a slow process that requires a significant amount of time and cannot be
sped up by outside means. Another commonly accepted myth and one that is often encouraged is that
drinking hard liquor will get you drunk faster than drinking beer. In fact, the amount of alcohol in one
beer is equal to the amount of alcohol in one shot of hard liquor, (U.S. Department of Health, 1977).
Although many of these myths would be beneficial to our drinking experiences, they are all in fact
false and users of alcohol must be aware of them.
Alcohol is one of the most commonly used drugs in the United States today. Sixty three percent of

Comparing Crime And Punishment By Fyodor Dostoyevsky
The novel Crime and Punishment written by Fyodor Dostoyevsky explores the idea that sin will
continually erode your soul away. The main protagonists are a murderer named Rodion Romanovich
Raskolnikov, and the girl he falls in love with, Sonia Semyonovna Marmeladov. Both Sonia and
Rodion lead very different lives; it is evident how convictions and beliefs guide the way these two
characters live their lives. Sonia believes in the New Testament, and reads it regularly, and also
believes that through faith comes death to the old self, and eternal life through Christ. Sonia s christian
convictions affect her love for people, her self sacrifice, and her firm foundation in Christ. Sonia is

Mandala Religion Essay
The beliefs and symbols illustrated in my mandala are positioned in a way that they connect to each
other. The first Hindu belief is Brahman. I put the symbol of Brahman on the bottom of the mandala to
show that it controls and connects to the other four beliefs. Next, the belief of multiple gods will be
placed on the right side of Brahman because he is one of the many gods that the Hindus believe in. On
the other side of Brahman will be Dharma because they both have to do with balancing society and the
universe. On top of Dharma will be Karma. I will put it in this position because Dharma affects your
Karma. If you follow rules then your Karma will be good, and if you don t follow the rules then your
Karma won t be as good. Lastly, Samsara will be placed next to Karma and Dharma. Samsara would
be placed next to these beliefs because your Karma is what you will receive or be like in your next
life. Dharma connects to Samsara because the release called Moksha will be achieved if you follow
certain spiritual and ritual practices to have a good relation and personal experience with Gods. There
are many other ways that all these beliefs connect to each other, but the ways I just talked about relate

The Pros And Cons Of College Education
This past summer I graduated High School and this past school year I had to give a lot of thought
where I would like to go to college or if even going to college was the correct choice for me.
However, I did start preparing for college at the beginning of High School as the concept and need of
college was instilled within me by most of my family and those at school from a young age as they
tended to say education was my ticket and it would take me far in life. However is the higher
education and experience one gains through college worth the large amount of debt one will most
likely take on in order to go to college? This topic I find to be very interesting and to resonate rather
deeply with me as while many of my friends decided to follow my same path, deciding to go on to
higher education almost as many decide not to go to college. This could have been from a multitude of
reasons from not being able to afford college to not feeling they have the aptitude and commitment to
do college. I took the time to analyze the question Is college worth it? with two sources, both
pertaining to whether college is really worth the investment of time and money one puts into it. I
found two articles Is College worth it? and College: Who profits? which both help to analyze the pros
and cons of college along analyzing various statistics pertaining to college. They both seem to be
rather useful with one being more of a report on a book and the other being an article about a report.
The first source I analyzed was Is College Worth it? Written by Michelle Adam and published by The
Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education. Adam reports on a recent question Is College Worth it? which
was analyzed and asked by the Pew Research center. Adam noted throughout the source numerous
surveys and statistics, which the Pew Research used to help answer their question. One such survey
noted that 57% of people surveyed did not find they got good value for their money with higher
education, 75% said college was too expensive for many Americans, and yet 86% of college grads
said it was a good investment for them personally with 94% of parents claiming they expected their
child to go to college. Adam also noted that within the survey

  • 2. The Hindu Temple Of India The white Hindu temple stood quietly against the chaos that surrounded it in Agra, India. The marble that made up the building was stunningly clean compared to the streets that were filled with holes and dirt. The car horns and movement of people coming from their jobs that Friday created chaos around the building. The temple was made up of a square base with 4 domes at the top, similar to those of the Taj Mahal, except much smaller. Sculptures of Indian deities and revered images were chiseled all over the exterior of the temple. There were oxes and cows at the bottom of the temple. Farther up the building were the hundreds of Hindu Gods that existed were depicted. Each had at least 4 or 6 arms and were each standing in powerful stances ... Sunil and Sindhu followed in suit, but Sunil passed his younger sister his shoes which she placed in her bag, alongside her own. Leaving your shoes in the pile meant they would likely be stolen. The women began to place scarfs around their heads, a sign of reverence to the Gods. Sindhu began to wonder around the temple staring up at the building. Sunil grabbed at her arm and gave her a warning look, Sindhu, apane skaarph ko rakho, Put on your scarf, he said in a hushed voice. Sindhu sighed and took out a red scarf from her bag and placed it over her head. She hated the way it made her feel suffocated and overheated. The siblings began walking around the temple, as they were still some time before Puja was going to start. Sindhu pointed to a statue of Durga, a goddess who was warrior known in Hindu mythology as a powerful women who fight off demons and maintained the peace. She was depicted with six arms standing on top of a demonic cow she had slayed. Her face was cut off. Sunil, what happened to her face? exclaimed Sindhu to her older brother in a thick Indian accent. • 3. Rhetorical Analysis of Ellen DeGeneres s Commencement... Ellen s Commencement Speech Rhetorical Analysis Graduation caps fly into the air, cheers erupt, and diplomas are received. This is a typical graduation day. Not only did these ceremonial events take place for Tulane University s class of 2009, but Ellen DeGeneres was there to congratulate them as well! This class was dubbed the Katrina Class for being survivors of the devastating Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Katrina was named one of the deadliest Hurricanes, causing more than 1,836 deaths. Tulane University is located in New Orleans, Louisiana, where the most significant amount of deaths took place and 80 percent of the city was destroyed. Most graduates have a lot of stress and worry about their futures, the uncertainty of where they are going or what they will become. Ellen is relatable when she tells the graduates how she didn t know who shes was, considering that, she was still dating men. Another use of a rhetorical question But why am I here today? to introduce an anecdote about her growing up in New Orleans. This question takes the audience s attention back to her, because, consequently, they know that Ellen will explain why she is there; giving them a reason to listen to her words. Once again, Ellen asks What else can happen to you? in order to commend the graduates of having success after the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina. She uses the hyperbole and rhetorical question, So what I m saying is, when you re older, a lot of you will be gay. Anyone writing this stuff down? Parents? this keeps everybody s attention and loops the parents into relating the commencement speech to them as well. Rhetorical questions help Ellen by giving the crowd small moments to reflect and invites them into her speech, connecting to them and allowing them to smile during serious content. Furthermore, the use of hyperbole and metaphors are effective in this commencement speech. Ellen uses a hyperbole when she rationalizes her anxiety about the success of her sitcom after the public realize that she is gay. Ellen worried about this because in recent times, the ... • 6. Sigmund Freud s Theory Of Psychoanalysis This passage from Psycho analysis, Sigmund Freud s essay detailing the origins, methods, and applications of his theory of psychoanalysis, reveals the utility of his approach in understanding what lies beneath the surface through the interpretation of dreams, which later psychoanalytic critics related to the interpretation of literature. Freud s description of his psychoanalytic theory considers it an approach to unlocking knowledge that is impossible to discover through prior methods of psychology and that is applicable across all areas of the sciences and humanities. Here, students of Freud s theory can find correlations between psychoanalysis to both structuralism and deconstruction through his method of interpreting dreams, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this way, psychoanalysis is a hermeneutics of suspicion as the analyst must delve beyond the conscious and superficial qualities of the mind and tap into the unresolved, repressed, and often unknown process of the unconscious mind. This phrase, coined by Paul Ricouer, displays the use of theories as a means to interpret not the normalities but the abnormalities within both life and literature. In explaining psychoanalysis, Parker describes Freud s idea of the unconscious as something more radical, something not just underneath awareness but utterly without awareness (114). For most people, as they find their place within their society, they suppress the unconscious underneath cultural expectations of normal human behavior. However, the unconscious desires and motivations of the human mind continue to affect behavior in ways that are often unrealized and uncontrollable. What other people see on the surface are these neuroses or symptoms that cannot be fully controlled and, according to Freud, are significant substitutes for other mental acts which have been omitted (184). Through sessions with a patient, the analyst discovers a common source deep within the unconscious that explains the analysand s neuroses. Neuroses, affecting both normal and abnormal minds, are the symptoms of the unconscious which breaks through the defenses of the conscious mind. For some, these symptoms are common parapraxes in ... Many of these subconscious memories and feelings are difficult to put into words. • 8. Compare And Contrast Theseus And Oedipus While I was analyzing the two Greek heroes Theseus and Oedipus origins, it became obvious that they share quite a few differences and similarities as is common amongst heroes in Greek mythology. The first similarity I found the two heroes shared was the love and honor their subjects regarded their kings with. Theseus was revered for his strategic planning and how he used his power to create an equal ruling between the power of the king and his people. He was acknowledged as one of the first leaders to create a Democracy, allowing his people to have a say into how the kingdom is ruled. I myself, will be your leader in wars, and at all times the protector of laws, but beyond this all my fellow citizens shall have equal rights with me (216). By allowing the inhabitants of Attica to access part of the power of the king, Theseus knew that his subjects would abide by this ruling because of the value and gain they would receive from becoming a united community. I feel this peaceful treaty between the two dynamics; the rich and the poor shows that Theseus was an intelligent and courageous king worthy of the equal amounts of love and fear the king instilled in the city of Athens. The way Theseus resolved the issue between the two class systems leads me to believe that Theseus admirers rigid structure and control but since he is willing to give some of his power to the citizens of Athens in order to keep peace, he became known as a peaceful ruler instead of a forceful tyrant. ... Out of all the extinction theories the asteroid theory has the most evidence backing it up. As time movies by layers of rock form in the Earth s crust. The rock formed in the layer around formed the time of extinction contains abnormally large amounts of iridium, a metal found only in asteroids (Erdman). Another piece of evidence found in the rock is impact ejecta. Impact ejecta results from an explosion instantly melting bedrock and throwing it into the air. An abundance of impact ejecta in the rock layer formed near the dinosaur s extinction suggests that a large asteroid destroyed the dinosaurs ( What Killed the Dinosaurs ). Scientists can locate a layer of rock that formed during extinction because all fossils of a certain species show up under or in a rock layer but never above ( What Killed the Dinosaurs ). The crater like shape of the area, the layer rick in iridium and the age of the rocks all lend weight to the theory ( Eden Channel ). Figure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Flood Case Study Other Factors Contributing to the Flood The Arun and Sunkosi sub catchments of the upper catchment area contribute to the intensity of floods, with the former possessing highest surface runoff potential (Wakode et al., 2013). As the Kosi River exits at the base of the mountain, the ability to transport sediment is dampened, leading to deposition of sediment and aggradation (Kale, 2008). High silt content in the river was due to soil erosion and landslides and the presence of narrow gorges (Wakode et al., 2013). The construction of the eastern embankment increased aggradation on the western side of the river, making the embankment vulnerable to breaching (Sinha, 2009). The high discharge of water from rivers can cause extensive damage to life and property (Singh Kumar, 2017), both of which include livestock, croplands and public utilities (i.e. electricity, telephones, and roads) (Singh Kumar, 2013). For instance, a lot of agricultural land was rendered uncultivable because the flood had transported and deposited excess sediment (Chakraborty et al., 2010). Singh and Kumar (2013) noted that millions of people in India are affected by flash floods yearly. In this regard, it can be deduced that countless people were displaced, many villages were flooded, and Bihar s infrastructure was compromised (Kale, 2008). While there have been no reliable estimate of deaths and loss of properties for the flood event, it can be said that more than 30 million people were affected (Sinha, 2009). The 2008 flood was an unprecedented human misery due to increased population density (Kale, 2008). EJMHS must have an 8 man football team to lessen injuries, improve our record, and better player stats. First of all, switching to an 8 man football team would give the team more subs. One reason we would have more subs is because of three less men on the field. In fact, since we only have 8 on the field, players get more breaks as needed. More players on the sideline could cheer on the players on the field. Therefore, we would have more subs on the sideline. Additionally, more subs on the sideline could keep the coaches calmed down. As you may have noticed, coaches can get fired up, but more players could stop them from getting the team a penalty. Subs could also stop our team from getting penalties. • 23. The Plate Tectonics Of New Zealand Study of the plate tectonics of New Zealand has been undertaken since the early 1800s, however the most notable discovery regarding the plate tectonic setting was made in the 1940s by Harold Wellman, who discovered the Alpine Fault. Since then, our knowledge of the plate tectonic setting of New Zealand has been vastly expanded, leading to our present day understanding of the topic. A large part of our present day knowledge of the plate tectonic setting has been gained through the study of active faulting the visible and measurable signs of fault line activity and their ruptures. Our current understanding is that the country sits on the boundary of the Australian and the Pacific plate. The nature of this boundary changes depending on the area of the country studied, from strike slip to convergent. Evidence from active faulting can be used to prove the nature of this boundary on land by studying both the North and South Island Fault Systems. South Island Fault System The Alpine Fault is a clear starting point for analysis of the plate tectonic setting of NZ. It is the most visually obvious sign of tectonic activity in NZ as it is responsible for the creation of the Southern Alps, a 500 kilometre long chain of mountains which stretch from the Nelson Lakes to Milford. These mountains sit to the eastern side of the fault as they are created by the Australian plate acting as a rigid indentor, buckling the weaker crust of the Pacific plate (Sutherland et al., 2000, 2009 as cited ... When we do send emails we refer to our customers as possibly J.H. or account ###456, so that the person we are emailing has a reference to whom we are speaking of. We do not use specifics and if we need to send a secure email we will take the time to encrypt them however, that is only done via the I.T department. Our emails are monitored and we sign a contract allowing them to access our files at anytime. I do firmly believe that this is for everyones protection not just the bank. I feel like with our day and age and the ability to send and receive emails and access programs such as Facebook and Instagram from our phones there is no need to use a business computer to do so. I can do all of those things plus create documents, etc from my phone which is just a smartphone. In conclusion, It is better not only for yourself but for your clients and your business if you would just refrain from sending personal emails and receiving them from the business computer. They have every legal right to monitor any, and all activity you do and are doing it not just for their protection but for yours as well. • 37. Mandala Religion Essay The beliefs and symbols illustrated in my mandala are positioned in a way that they connect to each other. The first Hindu belief is Brahman. I put the symbol of Brahman on the bottom of the mandala to show that it controls and connects to the other four beliefs. Next, the belief of multiple gods will be placed on the right side of Brahman because he is one of the many gods that the Hindus believe in. On the other side of Brahman will be Dharma because they both have to do with balancing society and the universe. On top of Dharma will be Karma. I will put it in this position because Dharma affects your Karma. If you follow rules then your Karma will be good, and if you don t follow the rules then your Karma won t be as good. Lastly, Samsara will be placed next to Karma and Dharma. Samsara would be placed next to these beliefs because your Karma is what you will receive or be like in your next life. Dharma connects to Samsara because the release called Moksha will be achieved if you follow certain spiritual and ritual practices to have a good relation and personal experience with Gods. There are many other ways that all these beliefs connect to each other, but the ways I just talked about relate to the illustrations I have drawn on the mandala. I illustrated the belief of Brahman by using the Earth, Sun, and water droplets as symbols. I choose to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The social class triangle represents each of the levels of social class that the Hindus are recognized as. If you follow your dharma which is performing and following duties and rules of your social class, then you will contribute to a better world and a stronger social class. I drew the rocks balancing to represent that they believed that as you follow your dharma, they contribute to both the harmony and balance of society and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The Pros And Cons Of College Education This past summer I graduated High School and this past school year I had to give a lot of thought where I would like to go to college or if even going to college was the correct choice for me. However, I did start preparing for college at the beginning of High School as the concept and need of college was instilled within me by most of my family and those at school from a young age as they tended to say education was my ticket and it would take me far in life. However is the higher education and experience one gains through college worth the large amount of debt one will most likely take on in order to go to college? This topic I find to be very interesting and to resonate rather deeply with me as while many of my friends decided to follow my same path, deciding to go on to higher education almost as many decide not to go to college. This could have been from a multitude of reasons from not being able to afford college to not feeling they have the aptitude and commitment to do college. I took the time to analyze the question Is college worth it? with two sources, both pertaining to whether college is really worth the investment of time and money one puts into it. I found two articles Is College worth it? and College: Who profits? which both help to analyze the pros and cons of college along analyzing various statistics pertaining to college. They both seem to be rather useful with one being more of a report on a book and the other being an article about a report. The first source I analyzed was Is College Worth it? Written by Michelle Adam and published by The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education. Adam reports on a recent question Is College Worth it? which was analyzed and asked by the Pew Research center. Adam noted throughout the source numerous surveys and statistics, which the Pew Research used to help answer their question. One such survey noted that 57% of people surveyed did not find they got good value for their money with higher education, 75% said college was too expensive for many Americans, and yet 86% of college grads said it was a good investment for them personally with 94% of parents claiming they expected their child to go to college. Adam also noted that within the survey ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
