Food Inseecurity And Marginal Food Security In The United...
By definition, households that are viewed as food secure are able to enjoy a variety of foods without
having any sort of limit, thus proceed to have an active and healthy lifestyle (Gregory Coleman
Jensen, 2017, 5). Those who are food secure have no worries of when their next meal will be. In
contrast, food insecurity is the lack of access to the basic necessity of food due to having low
availability of money and other resources. This issue is also affecting many people today in America.
Food insecurity is currently affecting 21% of families in the United States (Shankar, Rainjade,
Deborah, 2017, 135). There are differences between those who are food secure and those who are food
insecure. There are also varying degrees of those who face low food insecurity and extremely low
food insecurity. As previously stated, those who are food secure have plentiful necessities of food and
do not have any stress of their next meal. These people are characterized by high food security. A
recent sample study of 7,802 people conducted this year back in May, found that 57.7% of adults in
America were food secure (Leung, Tester, and Laraia, 2017, 730). Marginal food security is a step
lower than those who are labeled with high food security, but this type is not classified as severity.
Marginal food security involves homes who sometimes reach anxiety about not having enough food in
the house, but the quality, variety, and quantity of their food intake are not lowered (Gregory

Ethics Of Packaging Essay
Ethical Food Labeling and Packaging After seeing the ad on television or in the weekly grocer flyer,
seeing the actual labeling on a product is what consumers have to make informed choices. What
started out to be another form of advertising and last attempt to sell a product, food packaging and
labeling has been regulated through the FDA and FD amp;C to require certain information. It was
declared to be the policy of the Congress to assist consumers and manufacturers in reaching these
goals in the marketing of consumer goods (Regulatory). Beyond giving the name of the food, net
quantity of contents, name and address of manufacturer, statement of ingredients and nutrition
information, a product can still be misleading beyond the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Customers are increasingly seeking to purchase products from companies that are taking care of our
environment (Carbonfree). The Federal Trade Commission regulates environmental marketing claims
so consumers can be reasonably confident that any promises apply to most of the packaging or
contents of the product and not to minor, incidental components (Margaret). Excessive paper or
wrapping and the harms caused by non biodegradable materials have become a hot topic and
companies have realized the public is equally concerned about the ethics of packaging. Not only
having safe and effective packaging equipment qualifies companies as being ethical, but the processes
and working conditions of employees are under the microscope as well. As an example, a company
that produces sugar can have the claim of being Carbon Free . For many consumers, this sounds good
and well intentioned, however the claim is not directly for the product but instead meant for how the
product was manufactured. Without statements tying the two together the general public will continue
to be misled or misinformed. The claim of packaging made out of recycled material when only a small
percentage of the container was indeed recycled is a continuation of product misrepresentation and
manufacturers point to shoplifting as an explanation for packing items in difficult to open containers
(Margaret). Margaret points out that even this issue leads to

How Does Wilfred Owen Use Poetic Techniques Used To...
Dulce et Decorum est is a poem written by Wilfred Owen, an English soldier in 1917. This poem tells
us that fighting in World War One isn t as sweet and fitting as the government had described to the
young soldiers. For example, the second half of the third stanza is a bitter accusation to the
government, who had said that dying in the war would be sweet and fitting for your country by using
his own friend s death to contradict this claim with several writing techniques to describe it. Firstly,
Owen expresses how fighting in the war isn t as sweet and fitting as the government had described to
the young soldiers using various similes describing how tiring and stressful it is to fight in the war. For
example, Bent double, like old beggars

The Importance Of Uplink Over Utilization Protection
Uplink over utilization protection It s important to establish thresholds when looking at both short and
long term utilization and growth of the network infrastructure. Doing so eliminates guesswork and
provides a clear understanding of when additional resources should be required. Specifically speaking,
a threshold is normally based on percentage of usage (in comparison to the maximum available
bandwidth). Example; 50% of 100 Mbps translate to 50 Mbps of overall usage. When establishing a
percentage threshold, it s important to consider things like margin of safety and historic growth rates .
In the case of margin of safety , the threshold number should be high enough to alert that more
bandwidth will be needed, but low enough to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One other thing to note regarding bandwidth, the difference between 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps is
capacity, not speed of operation. A 100 Mbps Ethernet connection is capable of passing 100 megabits
of data in a one second period. In comparison a 1 Gbps is capable of passing 1 gigabit of data in a one
second period. The actual speed of the data is the same, it s just capable of passing more data in a one
second period. (Think of 100 Mbps connection as a single lane road with a 1 Gbps connection as a
multi lane highway with the speed limit of both roads being 55 Mph). In this example more cars can
travel on the highway as compared to the single lane road, but are still traveling at the same speed.

General bandwidth utilization guidelines
As a general rule of thumb, the chart below (see figure 1.1) shows a general guideline indicating the
peak percentages of utilization on a LAN or WAN, and what (if anything) needs to be addressed
depending on peak utilization. With regards to peaks, another factor needs to be mentioned, and that s
the frequency of peaks. The frequency of peaks defines how often the peaks occur. This is an
important point as the higher the frequency the sooner the potential need for more

Psychoanalysis In Catcher In The Rye
J.D. Salinger s The Catcher in the Rye is regarded as a seminal work of fiction with many
psychological and social themes, particularly those related to personal development and the transition
out of childhood. In this paper, The Catcher in the Rye will be analyzed from the basis of an Adlerian
psychoanalytic perspective with a particular emphasis on personality development and the influence
of siblings and birth order. This analysis will center around the main character of Salinger s story,
Holden , who appears to have developed an inferiority complex in his early life which he attempts to
make up for with antisocial and dishonest de identification behaviour. The Adlerian model of
psychoanalysis is ideally suited for the character of Holden and provides a number of insights into the
influences upon Holden, the state of his mind and the motivations that make up his unique character.
Alfred Adler, a renowned and highly influential psychologist who came to prominence in the early
part of the 20th century coined the term family constellation , which served as a metaphor to describe
the influence of familial bonds and dynamics upon the personality development of individuals,
particularly children. Adler s conception of the family constellation has been adopted and studied
extensively since his time. Rudolf Dreikurs built upon Adler s work some years later, and vouched for
the usefulness of the family constellation perspective in psychoanalytic work: A clear formulation

In chapter 16: Salim leaves with Latika. We see Salim barge into the room where Jamal and Latika lie
innocently talking. There is a high angle shot making Latika and Jamal look weak and vulnerable.
This cuts to a low angle of Salim making him seem strong and powerful. Salim continues to say I am
the elder, I am the boss, for once you do as I say. This shows that Salim believes he is the dominant
brother and Jamal must obey him. The scene concludes with Salim raping Latika after Jamal is forced
away at gunpoint by his own brother. This is where we see the darker side of Salim s character and the
contrast between the innocence of Jamal and the narrow mind of Salim. This impacts on the audience
because it is the first time that there has been serious conflict between the brothers. It also aids the
audience into categorizing Salim into the villain character at this point in the film. At the end of the
film Salim makes the ultimate sacrifice; his life. This emphasizes the dramatic change that has
occurred in Salim s character. Salim transforms from being the antagonist to being the enabler, aiding
Jamal in finding Latika. In chapter 23: Salim helps Latika escape. We see Latika watching the news
about Jamal being on his final question, with tears rushing down her cheeks. Salim enters. We see a
high angle of Latika reiterating her vulnerability this shadows chapter 16 (when Latika was in the
same position).

What Are The Stereotypes Of Asian Americans
Casey Swanson
Race Ethics
Extra Credit
Due: 12/14/2015
Our history has taught us many things, but it doesn t emphasize a number of stereotypical situations
over the discussions of race. Humans have created numerous stereotypes whether they are good or
bad. Causing people to think that because of different races we have to compete for a dominant class.
A popular so called stereotype is the model minority.
Asian Americans have been considered as the model minority and research shows that this minority is
achieving the American Dream . With a good education, earning a good living, being hardworking,
patient and earning the highest college degree attainment rate in the US, Asian Americans fit the
stereotype very well. They even fit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though statistics shows Asian Americans having a higher median income than white families,
you have to also look at other factors that can furthermore affect the results. Asian American families
tend to have more family members who are working than typical whites. They also live in more
metropolitan areas, where the cost of living is higher. Some say that in order to survive the Asian
American family must earn more to spend more.
Even though this stereotype sounds positive it can also have a negative effect. Research displays that
other minority groups tend to have more years of education to just make the same amount of money as
whites who may have not as much of an education. Asian Americans are underrepresented in political
leadership positions. Many more assumptions have come to develop from the stereotype but just
because some Asian Americans have made it does not mean that all Asian Americans pertain to this.
Not all racist stereotypes are negative but do play a big role into what we think about each other based
on race assumptions. There are other stereotypes about Asians like all Asians are smart . This can put
pressure on many and if they don t live up to that expectation, can be considered a failure not only to
society but to the family members as well. Recently, more and more Asian Americans are being
targeted to hate crimes. Not because of who they are but for what their race stands

trying to take Mrs. Sparr to the Dillon garden. I think that Mrs. Sparr should go to the Dillon garden to
see all the flowers, relax and smell all the flowers. My first reason, you can smell all the beautiful
flowers for example, you can smell the perovskia flower the lavatera flower and the limestone flowers.
The limestone flower is pink/red and in the middle it yellow with spikes coming out of it. The
perovskia has purple pedals coming out the side of the stem and the pedals turn into fully grown
flowers. The lavatera flower is pink sometimes purple with a stem that comes out the middle of the
flower and has tiny pink dots on it. My second reason, you can maybe you did a lot of stuff and you
just want to sit back and relax you can come to the Dillon garden. You may sit on their chairs and their

The Ojibways affirm that long before they became aware of the white man s presence on this
continent, their coming was prophesied by one of their old men, whose great sanctity and oft repeated
fasts enabled him to commune with spirits and see far into the future.
He prophesied that the white spirits would come in numbers like sand on the lake shore, and would
sweep the red race from the hunting grounds which the Great Spirit had given them as an inheritance.
It was phrophesied that the consequences of the white man s appearance would be, to the Anishinabeg,

Descriptive Essay About Lifeguards
Fifteen minutes. That s the time I spend in each lifeguard stand before rotating to the next. I ascend the
white, grooved ladder rungs of the stand. One, two, three, turn around, sit down. I slip off my shoes,
exposing the embarrassingly obvious tan lines on my feet. With the rescue tube strap tossed over my
head and arm, and the red foam tube resting across the armrests of the chair, I bring the plastic whistle
to my mouth. A shrill, rolling sound is released: a signal to the eager children, stationed at the edge of
the pool and giddy with anticipation, that the day has officially begun. The pool is open. The first
fifteen minutes.
The gruelling sun of two summers of work has faded away the thrilling newness of climbing up that
lifeguard stand. My first day on the job, I relished the climb, soaking in the responsibility and glory.
Fifteen minutes flew by that day. Growing up, the lifeguards at my neighborhood pool were viewed as
celebrities by the younger kids. My friends and I admired how incredibly cool and intimidating they
were. Their stands were, in our young eyes, thrones. But now that I m on the other side of it, I laugh at
the thought of lifeguards being cool or intimidating. I m far from either of those things. And the stand?
It s nothing special. I just do my job: I am paid to sit, perched on a wobbly plastic chair on stilts,
monitoring the happenings of the pool for hours on end.
Even with the umbrella fastened to the stand, the heat proves unbearable. The

Sports Employee Retention
Volunteers are unpaid, free participation in the organisation in order to gain benefit to others,
environment and their self. (Hoye, 2008) Volunteers are the important and valuable part in many
aspects of the society. (Bang Ross, 2009) In addition, volunteers are an initial part of sports service
delivery and sports event management. (Giannoulakis et al., 2007) Cnaan Goldberg Glen (1991,
p.270) noted that volunteers enable administrators to sustain current services and expand both the
quantity and diversity of services without exhausting the agency s budget. In order to make the event
be successful, volunteers are the indispensable part of the event.
As Cuskelly et al. (2006) stated that between 8.2% and 10% of Australians and about 15% of the
English population are participating in sports volunteers. In regard to volunteered time per year,
Australians contributed 98 per volunteer per year as well as English volunteers are 208. (Cuskelly et

Upon return from a successful mission Savage has a run in with Pritchard. Pritchard asks why Savage
did not return when the return call was made. Savage tells him it must have been a radio malfunction ,
which it clearly was not. After an argument Savage tells Pritchard that the men deserve recognition for
their success and that there might be some Radio Malfunctions in the future also. Savage is starting to
move up in his relationship status while he is trying to motivate the 918. Savage is starting to feel for
these men but he is also getting tired because they have not removed their transfer requests and they
still are not exhibiting any pride in their work. Motivation Savage calls Lieutenant Bishop, a Medal of

Christianity and The Lutheran Religion
The Lutheran religion was originally branched from Christianity, and is a massive Protestant
denomination currently. Nearly 66 million people worldwide practice this religion (Lutheranism).
Lutheran has a membership which exceeds any other Protestant denomination. Germany is the
primary Lutheran country, as it was from the start (Martin Luther 1483 1546, BBC). This religion
dates back to 1517, the founder of this religion was Martin Luther (McHugh, John).
Martin Luther was born on November 10th, 1483 in Eisleben, Germany (Michael J. O Neal/Sydney
Jones, 225). According to a legend, Martin Luther was riding a horse when a storm struck and he was
hit by lightening. He said: Help, Sainte Anne! I ll become a monk. He was saved and made an
Augustinian monk (Michael J. O Neal/Sydney Jones, 226). Two years later, Luther was ordained and
began teaching at the University of Wittenberg. In 1512 he earned a doctorate in theology
(Lutheranism).
Over the next few years, Martin Luther began to believe that the Catholic Church was being dishonest.
This lead Martin Luther to post his 95 theses against the practice of selling indulgence (Lutheranism).
He hoped for a reformation of the church, however once it became obvious to him that a reformation
would not occur; he began to share his own views. He continued to inform people on his perspective,
regardless of being excommunicated from the church.
Luther had transformed his view on the religion; believing that Christians are saved

Politics Is Blame For A Changing Climate
Politics is to Blame for a Changing Climate In the 1980 s, scientists discovered three important pieces
of information that would shape American politics and the environment for years to come. The Earth
was getting warmer, the warming was caused by human pollution to the air and sea, and future
generations would suffer (Hansen). Few believed these environmentalists at first, but as science
progressed, the signs that climate change was a real threat became more and more apparent. Today, the
debate on climate change is a popular topic, especially in national politics. Although one may assume
the first step to fixing these environmental problems is to talk about it, evidence shows that political

This fact should spark a disturbance with many citizens because it shows how congressional votes
depend on the use of a carbon dioxide emitting fossil fuel to make decisions. Some argue that the
decisions politicians make will not truly affect Americans; however, this is not a sound argument.
Perhaps these people do not see the full effect of a politician s stance on the environment right away.
That all changes when certain politicians, especially conservatives, are voted into office. When a
certain group has control over the government and governmental policies, areas such as the food
industry can be manipulated to follow this economy over environment pattern. For instance, in
Elizabeth Grossman s article Banned in Europe, Safe in the U.S., Grossman describes the process for
restricting chemical use under the TSCA can also take years; in fact, only a handful of chemicals have
ever been barred under TSCA (Grossman 5). This quote clearly illustrates that getting rid of unsafe or
potentially unsafe chemicals is almost impossible. If it does occur, people will still be exposed to the
chemical for years to come. Why would the government want to use such harsh chemicals? The
chemical is working to better the economy, whether it is being sold in grocery stores or used to create
a product produced by thousands of workers to stimulate job growth. The government does not want
to risk the economy over dangerous environmental impacts. The

A Example Of A One Week Fitness Plan
One Week Fitness Plan
I am going to separate each day into each body section because I know that if you work on one part of
the body, it actually tears your muscle, which grows stronger once replenished. So working on a body
part for two days in a row will have defective results. But I might do, for example, a leg workout for
day 1, I would do it again for day 4.
Day 1: Leg Workout:
Stretching (Both Before and After): First take your left leg and bring it up to bottom and balance on
your leg for 10 seconds. Also, do it to your left leg. Next, do toe touches, standing and on the ground
for about 5 minutes. After that, do some lunges for 3 to 5 minutes. If you need, you can have ten
second breaks. Finish off with by trying to spread your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

After that, take the weights and stretch your arms until they re straight in front of you, and hold for as
long as you can. Finish off with arm swings 20 times, back and forward.
Nutrition β†’ What to eat β†’ Don t eat any junk food (e.g. chips, soft drinks... ), try to only eat foods
with proteins (so you can build up muscles better for the workout, and if you want, good fats (e.g.
avocado). Have many fruits and vegetables, and other foods with vitamins and minerals added to your
diet.
Day 3: Ab Workout:
Stretching (Both Before and After): First, you have to do the cobra pose for 2 minutes. This means
you lay on your stomach and try to lift your head and stomach as high as you can. After that, try
touching your toes, standing and sitting for about 20 seconds. Also, do 20 sit ups to bring your heart
rate up and stretch your abs and core. Finish off with some bridges. Start by laying on the ground and
lift your hips, allowing your back to be off the ground. Repeat this by doing it 20 times.
Workout: Start off by doing 2 sets of raised leg circles; each set must be about 10 times. I recommend
2 sets because abs can start to hurt easily so you can take your time. Next, do as much as sit ups as you

Chemical Safety Assignment On The Use Of Potassium Nitrate...
Chemical Safety Assignment
Student s Name:
Institution:
Chemical Safety Assignment
Answer 1
The chemical that will be analyzed in this section is potassium nitrate. There are different types of
information related to the chemical the student needs to gather to ensure proper air sampling is carried
out. It is necessary to determine the fire properties of this chemical and the level of damage it might
cause when left in the open. Significantly, the assessment must find out about other processes that
affect the usage of potassium nitrate in different environments within the organization (McDermott,
2004). This knowledge will enable the worker to recognize how various control measures can be used
to deal with various hazards associated with the chemical that might cause harm to different people.
Therefore, evaluating the real magnitude of different dangers involved will enable all those involved
to come up with appropriate methods that limit workers exposure to the hazards.
It is important for the student to determine how the risk of fire and explosion after exposure to
potassium nitrate can be dealt with. In effect, this knowledge will equip the student with skills to deal
with the dispersal effects of potassium nitrate dust at the workplace when it occurs. More importantly,
it is vital for the analysis to determine if the dust has harmful effects to the respiratory system when
inhaled and the levels of protection an organization can initiate to prevent

How Did The Mexican American War Dbq
The Mexican American War helped change in territorial rights between Mexico and the United States.
For Mexico, the war was unnecessary for and was only fought to protect their land and the people
living in it. While for United States, it was seen as a conquest of gaining the land that they believe was
their God given right. The Mexican American war is seen as an imperialist war due to the developing
independence in Texas, America s imperialism resulting in Manifest Destiny, and its Post war
expansion. In 1830, After the revolt against Mexican authority, Texas desire of becoming its own
independent republic became stronger. This later turned into a full on battle for the Alamo and Goliad.
After winning these battles the Texian volunteers fought against the Mexican army, while this was
happening American colony political leaders met in convention and declared Texas independence as
of March 2nd 1836. Later after turning on San Houston, Santa Anne was defeated and executed at the
battle of San Jacinto on April 21 1836. The next day San Houston was captured and forced to sign the
treaty of Velasco promising to withdraw all Mexican troops from Texas, end the war and recognize the
independence of Texas. This is shown in Document 7. Not only does Document 7 show the events that

had to pay America fifteen million dollars. A few years later state borders were made and in 1853,
James Gadsden was sent to Mexico City to buy a strip of land south of Arizona and New Mexico for a

Garbage Disposal If I Have A Septic System
Goal: Answer question: Can I Use a Garbage Disposal if I Have a Septic System?
Total Words in this Document:
Title: Can I Use a Garbage Disposal if I Have a Septic System?
Millions of homeowners around the country are using septic, rather than sewer systems. Whether their
septic system was a choice, or was a necessity due to lack of a shared sewer system, septic systems
provide significant advantages for many who appreciate the environmentally friendly design,
durability, and lower costs.
Septic systems that have been properly installed maintained should last between 20 and 40 years;
many, though, last significantly longer. Regular cleanings, pumpings, and care are necessities for
keeping your septic system running properly. It s also important to make sure that you monitor what is
being sent into the septic system; leaky faucets, items ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, though they are not the best choice for septic systems.
A garbage disposal is used to grind food scraps into tiny pieces, making is easier to dispose of and
process the waste. When you have a septic system, the pieces of food are flushed down the drain, into
your system.
Just as you should avoid sending other solids down the septic system, the garbage disposal poses a
problem when homeowners try to process and dispose of non biodegradable food items, like food
packaging items, or even hard to break down foods, like bones, fruit pits, coffee grounds, or oil and
grease.
These items add up in septic tank, and as the sludge accumulates, it takes away from the full capacity
of the tank. Ideally, the bacteria and treatments will help to break down the components that are
causing the sludge, but as the larger, heavier pieces sink to the bottom more quickly, the bacteria
doesn t have the time to do its

Functionalism, Conflict Theory, And Symbolic Interactionism
Global poverty is one of the biggest epidemics that many countries face today. In this paper I will first
explain functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionism. Secondly, I will explain the
different causes of global poverty. Thirdly, I will collect my own data to explain poverty in one
country. Finally, I will identify the idea of ethnocentric and culturally relative.
First and foremost, there are three types of theories that can be applied to global poverty which are
functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionism. To start off with functionalism is when a
society comes together and works as a whole. Next, we have conflict theory where some theorist says
it happens when a society competes with one another ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next, another example is when our country help a low poverty that have a great outcome of resources
we tell them what to give us in return and how much to give it to us for. That causes a substantial deal
of conflict because we are taking their resources that they need to make money for their country in
order to survive. Finally, some places like South Africa had a system in which you weren t able to
move up to a higher position in which you are only able to obtain the position in which you are born
into. South Africa s system was called a caste system, it is no longer illegal, however; it is still
enforced daily. When this caste system was a law, then people of lower status were not able to interact
with those who were deemed higher than them, and there were some instances when they were not
allowed outside at the same time they were. If your shadows had crossed or if you had accidentally
had touched them, then they were considered unclean. This would fit under functionalism because
they all worked together to keep this system in place.
In addition, poverty in Kenya is a humongous epidemic, however; most of the poverty that is seen
there is more in the rural area. Most of the work that is available for people in Kenya are farming and
agriculture so when there is a disaster that ruins crops they no longer have a job. Even though they are
a poor country the children are still

Analysis Of The Article On Being An Atheist
The question of God s existence has been challenged by many philosophers and non philosophers
alike. Arguments that have been used to support the existence of a divine being includes the
cosmological argument and the theological argument. However there are some who oppose these
arguments and philosopher H.J. McCloskey is among this group. In the article On Being an Atheist
written by H.J. McCloskey, he argues that both these arguments are false and insufficient as it relates
to proof of God s existence. McCloskey believes that without proper proof, we must completely
dismiss the idea of God s existence. In his well written article he offers a few reasons why he believes
that atheism is a much more comfortable belief verses a belief in a God who allows the suffering of
his people. He suggested that the problem of evil and the fact that evil exist, means that God could not
exist. McCloskey urges that people should just help each other rather than placing their faith in a God
that is clearly imperfect due to the imperfect world that he has created. Credible as McCloskey may
be, I saw many errors in his theory. It is my opinion that his attempt to define God is completely
unsound and his philosophy is at best debatable. In this response paper I will be carefully examining
each argument and also presenting a counter argument. I will be taking the stance from the perspective
of a minimal theism who believes in the existence of God.

Aristotle s Virtue By Aristotle
Virtue is the moral excellence of a person that cannot be taught. Morally excellent people have
characteristics that are constructed of virtues that are viewed as good to society. He or she may be
equipped with such characteristics like: honesty, respectfulness, courageousness, or being trust worthy.
Because of these positive traits, he or she is responsible of doing the right thing no matter the
situation, and does not bend the law for personal affection, urges or desires, but respects and follows
values and principles. Some people might say that good traits are teachable and that they are
developed through good parenting, which they can be, but we re not perfect. No matter what one is

The word honesty , for example, cannot exist in telling the truth only once. It is integrally related to,
practical wisdom, the whole of what a person needs in order to live well. It is also a trait of character
that is essential for leading a satisfying life. Aristotle lists justice among the virtues. A virtuous person
not only has a sense of fair treatment but can also determine what controls fairness. The virtues are not
merely means to happiness but are themselves constituents of it. Happiness does not consist solely on
what we get in life but also includes who we are and what traits are emerged eternally. Aristotle
always asks what the ultimate purpose of human existence is. If happiness is the goal of every human
beings according to Aristotle, however what does happiness imply? In his attempt to define what
happiness is and to find a way to attain it that Aristotle comes across the idea of such virtues. Maybe it
s not as easy for some people to comprehend but happiness does not depend on what we own;
happiness comes from within. Aristotle incorporates that happiness is one of the main purposes of
human life. Virtue, which Aristotle believes that is the balance between two excesses and can be
achieved by maintaining the mean of those excesses. Aristotle always asks what the ultimate purpose
of human existence is. Man is blessed with reason, and he knows that he cannot allow

Sky West, Inc.
1. The dominant characteristics of the U.S. regional airline industry are they are mostly controlled by
larger airlines or have a contract with them to secure flights. . Most regional airlines are there for
smaller communities to access a flight to the major hubs. Most of the regional airlines service to major
airports, so they are connected or part of a servicing contract with national airlines, who in turn are
part of the operations of the global airline industry. Smaller aircraft and retired aircraft from the
national and global airline industry are used for regional flights.

As major airlines go bankrupt, opportunities to take over the flights and collect on that revenue that
was going to the majors can be realized for Sky West. It can go global. External threats include rising
fuel costs, and limited domestic opportunities.
7. The company s future is promising. Revenues are increasing and its load factor is improving.
Operating expenses are decreasing and compared to other regional airlines, SkyWest offers better
benefits and compensation packages. It is performing efficiently; more so as each year passes.
8. SkyWest, Inc. must seek global markets to enter that allow joint ventures and potential for growth to
strengthen the company s competitive position. I would recommend the management stay on top of
technological advances in aircraft and purchase fuel efficient jets to lower fuel costs. Also, a plan to
consolidate ASA offices with the offices of SkyWest would cut down operating costs.

2. Five Forces Analysis for SkyWest.
Threat of New Entrants. The threat of new entrants is not a strong threat for SkyWest, Inc. because of
its control of distribution channels is high (i.e. service contracts with major airlines), its proprietary
knowledge is high as the company is an established company with experience in the industry, and
capital requirements are high.

Theories of Social Phobia
Learning and Cognitive Theories of Social Phobia: Causation,
Maintenance, and Treatment
University Of Newcastle
Social Phobia, also know as Social Anxiety Disorder, affects between 7 13% of individuals in western
society (Furmark, 2002). It usually presents during adolescences and is typically chronic and lifelong
(Veale, 2003). Two theories have been commonly used to explain the development and maintenance of
the phobia: learning theory and cognitive theory. Both theories alone do not provide a comprehensive
treatment plan, however when used in conjunction are much more effective. Cognitive behaviour

It proposes that fears and behaviours (both rational and irrational) are acquired through associative
learning. Classical conditioning and operant conditioning are the two models used to explain the
acquisition and maintenance of social phobia. Classical (or Pavlovian) conditioning associates a
neutral stimulus with an unconditional stimulus through paired association. A neutral stimulus is an
object or situation that under normal circumstances wouldn t elicit a fearful response (e.g., meeting
with friends). An unconditional stimulus produces an automatic, unconditioned response (e.g.,
sweating or blushing). If the neutral stimulus is continuously paired with an unconditional stimulus it
will elicit the unconditional response without the unconditional stimulus present. The individual has
now been conditioned to view the social situation as threatening as opposed to non threatening.
Based on this model, prolonged repetition of the eliciting stimulus without an aversive outcome
should result in a progressive reduction of the conditioned response. This is called extinction, a
process of reversal that breaks the association. Learning theory proposes that the treatment to social
phobia is exposure, as the client will be exposed to their fear without an adverse outcome, and over
time extinction will take place. However, social phobia is very resistant to extinction, as people often

Early Life Of Buddhism Essay
Furthermore, Buddhism was founded in the late 6th century B.C.E. by a man named Siddhartha
Gautama, who is infamously known as the Buddha. Buddhism is the most influential religion in a lot
of the Asian countries. Buddhism has assumed many different forms over the years, but there has
always been an attempt to draw from the Buddha s life experiences and the essence of his teachings,
known as dharma. These life experiences and teachings model an appropriate religious life. However,
it wasn t until the first or second century that there was a complete account of the Buddha s life and
that was due to the writing of Buddha Charita, which is the life of Buddha, by Ashvaghosa (The
Origins of Buddhism).
In a place near the Himalayan foothills around 563 B.C.E, the Buddha was born, and he then began in
inspirational teachings around Benares at Sarnath. Buddha s life were in times of widespread
religious, spiritual, intellectual, and social uproar, making his teaching gravely influential. Siddhartha

In one way or another, every person has felt repressed at some stage during their lives. Their Eyes

her own identity; this is the story of Janie Crawford and her journey for self knowledge and
fulfillment. Janie transforms many times as she undergoes the process of self discovery as she changes

Janie s first movement toward self awareness occurs shortly
thereafter, when she becomes fascinated by the blooming of leaf buds under
the pear tree. Here, Hurston uses the third person narrative in a speaker s
voice that invites the reader into Janie s soul. For example, the narrative
voice portraying the pear tree incident seems to have a nature somewhat
intimate to Janie s:
the rose of the world was breathing out smell. It followed her through all
her waking moments and caressed her in her sleep. It connected itself with
other vaguely felt matters that had struck her outside observation and
buried themselves in her consciousness. (24).
Hurston brilliantly combines an intimate voice with the omniscience of a
third person narrator for a vivid denotation of the beginning of Janie s
maturity and the initial stage in her development as a woman; she creates a
powerful description of a young girl s sexual awakening. However, just as
Janie is emerging as an individual and as a woman, her self discovery is
crippled by Nanny s fear of this maturity. Nanny desires to marry Janie off

Utilitarian Logic in Hard Times
Utilitarianism Quadruped. Graminivorous. Forty teeth, namely twenty four grinders, four eye teeth,
and twelve incisive. Sheds coat in spring...... A perfect example of a product of utilitarian education,
Bitzer defines a horse off the top of his head in a split second. Utilitarianism is the assumption that
human beings act in a way that highlights their own self interest. It is based on factuality and leaves
little room for imagination. Dickens provides three vivid examples of this utilitarian logic in Hard

How can you give a utilitarian man such as Gradgrind such power over a town? I do like how Dickens
structures the book to make one ask obvious questions such as these. Dickens does not tell us much
about the success of the other students of the school besides Bitzer, who is fairly successful on paper,
but does not have the capacity as a person to deal with life s everyday struggles.
Gradgrinds two oldest children, Tom and Louisa, are examples of how this utilitarian method failed
miserably. These children were never given the opportunity to think for themselves, experience fun
things in life, or even use their imaginations. True, they are smart people in the factual sense but do
not have the street smarts to survive. Tom is a young man who, so fed up with his father s strictness
and repetition, revolts against him and leaves home to work in Mr. Bounderby s bank. Tom, now out
from under his fathers wing, he begins to drink and gamble heavily. Eventually, to get out of a deep
gambling debt, he robs a bank and is forced to flee the area. When Bitzer realizes that Tom has robbed
the bank and catches him, Mr. Gradgrind begs him to let Tom go, reminding him of all of the hard
work that was put on him while at the school. Ironically Bitzer, using the tools of factuality that he had
learned in Gradgrinds school, replies that the school was paid for, but it is now over and he owes
nothing more. I think this is extremely funny how,

  • 4. Food Inseecurity And Marginal Food Security In The United... By definition, households that are viewed as food secure are able to enjoy a variety of foods without having any sort of limit, thus proceed to have an active and healthy lifestyle (Gregory Coleman Jensen, 2017, 5). Those who are food secure have no worries of when their next meal will be. In contrast, food insecurity is the lack of access to the basic necessity of food due to having low availability of money and other resources. This issue is also affecting many people today in America. Food insecurity is currently affecting 21% of families in the United States (Shankar, Rainjade, Deborah, 2017, 135). There are differences between those who are food secure and those who are food insecure. There are also varying degrees of those who face low food insecurity and extremely low food insecurity. As previously stated, those who are food secure have plentiful necessities of food and do not have any stress of their next meal. These people are characterized by high food security. A recent sample study of 7,802 people conducted this year back in May, found that 57.7% of adults in America were food secure (Leung, Tester, and Laraia, 2017, 730). Marginal food security is a step lower than those who are labeled with high food security, but this type is not classified as severity. Marginal food security involves homes who sometimes reach anxiety about not having enough food in the house, but the quality, variety, and quantity of their food intake are not lowered (Gregory ... • 5. Ethics Of Packaging Essay Ethical Food Labeling and Packaging After seeing the ad on television or in the weekly grocer flyer, seeing the actual labeling on a product is what consumers have to make informed choices. What started out to be another form of advertising and last attempt to sell a product, food packaging and labeling has been regulated through the FDA and FD amp;C to require certain information. It was declared to be the policy of the Congress to assist consumers and manufacturers in reaching these goals in the marketing of consumer goods (Regulatory). Beyond giving the name of the food, net quantity of contents, name and address of manufacturer, statement of ingredients and nutrition information, a product can still be misleading beyond the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Customers are increasingly seeking to purchase products from companies that are taking care of our environment (Carbonfree). The Federal Trade Commission regulates environmental marketing claims so consumers can be reasonably confident that any promises apply to most of the packaging or contents of the product and not to minor, incidental components (Margaret). Excessive paper or wrapping and the harms caused by non biodegradable materials have become a hot topic and companies have realized the public is equally concerned about the ethics of packaging. Not only having safe and effective packaging equipment qualifies companies as being ethical, but the processes and working conditions of employees are under the microscope as well. As an example, a company that produces sugar can have the claim of being Carbon Free . For many consumers, this sounds good and well intentioned, however the claim is not directly for the product but instead meant for how the product was manufactured. Without statements tying the two together the general public will continue to be misled or misinformed. The claim of packaging made out of recycled material when only a small percentage of the container was indeed recycled is a continuation of product misrepresentation and manufacturers point to shoplifting as an explanation for packing items in difficult to open containers (Margaret). Margaret points out that even this issue leads to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. How Does Wilfred Owen Use Poetic Techniques Used To... Dulce et Decorum est is a poem written by Wilfred Owen, an English soldier in 1917. This poem tells us that fighting in World War One isn t as sweet and fitting as the government had described to the young soldiers. For example, the second half of the third stanza is a bitter accusation to the government, who had said that dying in the war would be sweet and fitting for your country by using his own friend s death to contradict this claim with several writing techniques to describe it. Firstly, Owen expresses how fighting in the war isn t as sweet and fitting as the government had described to the young soldiers using various similes describing how tiring and stressful it is to fight in the war. • 7. The Importance Of Uplink Over Utilization Protection Uplink over utilization protection It s important to establish thresholds when looking at both short and long term utilization and growth of the network infrastructure. Doing so eliminates guesswork and provides a clear understanding of when additional resources should be required. Specifically speaking, a threshold is normally based on percentage of usage (in comparison to the maximum available bandwidth). Example; 50% of 100 Mbps translate to 50 Mbps of overall usage. When establishing a percentage threshold, it s important to consider things like margin of safety and historic growth rates . In the case of margin of safety , the threshold number should be high enough to alert that more bandwidth will be needed, but low enough to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One other thing to note regarding bandwidth, the difference between 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps is capacity, not speed of operation. A 100 Mbps Ethernet connection is capable of passing 100 megabits of data in a one second period. In comparison a 1 Gbps is capable of passing 1 gigabit of data in a one second period. The actual speed of the data is the same, it s just capable of passing more data in a one second period. (Think of 100 Mbps connection as a single lane road with a 1 Gbps connection as a multi lane highway with the speed limit of both roads being 55 Mph). In this example more cars can travel on the highway as compared to the single lane road, but are still traveling at the same speed. For more information this this subject, see tech brief Latency Fact vs. Bandwidth Fiction Visit the EAO public portal https://sharepoint.etslan.org/srt/srtdiv/capability_mgmt/default.aspx ) General bandwidth utilization guidelines As a general rule of thumb, the chart below (see figure 1.1) shows a general guideline indicating the peak percentages of utilization on a LAN or WAN, and what (if anything) needs to be addressed depending on peak utilization. With regards to peaks, another factor needs to be mentioned, and that s the frequency of peaks. The frequency of peaks defines how often the peaks occur. This is an important point as the higher the frequency the sooner the potential need for more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Psychoanalysis In Catcher In The Rye J.D. Salinger s The Catcher in the Rye is regarded as a seminal work of fiction with many psychological and social themes, particularly those related to personal development and the transition out of childhood. In this paper, The Catcher in the Rye will be analyzed from the basis of an Adlerian psychoanalytic perspective with a particular emphasis on personality development and the influence of siblings and birth order. This analysis will center around the main character of Salinger s story, Holden , who appears to have developed an inferiority complex in his early life which he attempts to make up for with antisocial and dishonest de identification behaviour. The Adlerian model of psychoanalysis is ideally suited for the character of Holden and provides a number of insights into the influences upon Holden, the state of his mind and the motivations that make up his unique character. Alfred Adler, a renowned and highly influential psychologist who came to prominence in the early part of the 20th century coined the term family constellation , which served as a metaphor to describe the influence of familial bonds and dynamics upon the personality development of individuals, particularly children. Adler s conception of the family constellation has been adopted and studied extensively since his time. Rudolf Dreikurs built upon Adler s work some years later, and vouched for the usefulness of the family constellation perspective in psychoanalytic work: A clear formulation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In chapter 16: Salim leaves with Latika. We see Salim barge into the room where Jamal and Latika lie innocently talking. There is a high angle shot making Latika and Jamal look weak and vulnerable. This cuts to a low angle of Salim making him seem strong and powerful. Salim continues to say I am the elder, I am the boss, for once you do as I say. This shows that Salim believes he is the dominant brother and Jamal must obey him. The scene concludes with Salim raping Latika after Jamal is forced away at gunpoint by his own brother. This is where we see the darker side of Salim s character and the contrast between the innocence of Jamal and the narrow mind of Salim. This impacts on the audience because it is the first time that there has been serious conflict between the brothers. It also aids the audience into categorizing Salim into the villain character at this point in the film. At the end of the film Salim makes the ultimate sacrifice; his life. This emphasizes the dramatic change that has occurred in Salim s character. Salim transforms from being the antagonist to being the enabler, aiding Jamal in finding Latika. Even though statistics shows Asian Americans having a higher median income than white families, you have to also look at other factors that can furthermore affect the results. Asian American families tend to have more family members who are working than typical whites. They also live in more metropolitan areas, where the cost of living is higher. Some say that in order to survive the Asian American family must earn more to spend more. Even though this stereotype sounds positive it can also have a negative effect. Research displays that other minority groups tend to have more years of education to just make the same amount of money as whites who may have not as much of an education. Asian Americans are underrepresented in political leadership positions. Many more assumptions have come to develop from the stereotype but just because some Asian Americans have made it does not mean that all Asian Americans pertain to this. Not all racist stereotypes are negative but do play a big role into what we think about each other based on race assumptions. There are other stereotypes about Asians like all Asians are smart . One, two, three, turn around, sit down. I slip off my shoes, exposing the embarrassingly obvious tan lines on my feet. With the rescue tube strap tossed over my head and arm, and the red foam tube resting across the armrests of the chair, I bring the plastic whistle to my mouth. A shrill, rolling sound is released: a signal to the eager children, stationed at the edge of the pool and giddy with anticipation, that the day has officially begun. The pool is open. The first fifteen minutes. The gruelling sun of two summers of work has faded away the thrilling newness of climbing up that lifeguard stand. My first day on the job, I relished the climb, soaking in the responsibility and glory. Fifteen minutes flew by that day. Growing up, the lifeguards at my neighborhood pool were viewed as celebrities by the younger kids. My friends and I admired how incredibly cool and intimidating they were. Their stands were, in our young eyes, thrones. But now that I m on the other side of it, I laugh at the thought of lifeguards being cool or intimidating. I m far from either of those things. And the stand? It s nothing special. I just do my job: I am paid to sit, perched on a wobbly plastic chair on stilts, monitoring the happenings of the pool for hours on end. Chemical Safety Assignment Student s Name: Institution: Chemical Safety Assignment Answer 1 The chemical that will be analyzed in this section is potassium nitrate. There are different types of information related to the chemical the student needs to gather to ensure proper air sampling is carried out. It is necessary to determine the fire properties of this chemical and the level of damage it might cause when left in the open. Significantly, the assessment must find out about other processes that affect the usage of potassium nitrate in different environments within the organization (McDermott, 2004). This knowledge will enable the worker to recognize how various control measures can be used to deal with various hazards associated with the chemical that might cause harm to different people. Therefore, evaluating the real magnitude of different dangers involved will enable all those involved to come up with appropriate methods that limit workers exposure to the hazards. It is important for the student to determine how the risk of fire and explosion after exposure to potassium nitrate can be dealt with. In effect, this knowledge will equip the student with skills to deal with the dispersal effects of potassium nitrate dust at the workplace when it occurs. In his well written article he offers a few reasons why he believes that atheism is a much more comfortable belief verses a belief in a God who allows the suffering of his people. He suggested that the problem of evil and the fact that evil exist, means that God could not exist. McCloskey urges that people should just help each other rather than placing their faith in a God that is clearly imperfect due to the imperfect world that he has created. Credible as McCloskey may be, I saw many errors in his theory. It is my opinion that his attempt to define God is completely unsound and his philosophy is at best debatable. In this response paper I will be carefully examining each argument and also presenting a counter argument. I will be taking the stance from the perspective of a minimal theism who believes in the existence of God. Argument of Proof The word proof is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Because of these positive traits, he or she is responsible of doing the right thing no matter the situation, and does not bend the law for personal affection, urges or desires, but respects and follows values and principles. It is integrally related to, practical wisdom, the whole of what a person needs in order to live well. It is also a trait of character that is essential for leading a satisfying life. Aristotle lists justice among the virtues. A virtuous person not only has a sense of fair treatment but can also determine what controls fairness. The virtues are not merely means to happiness but are themselves constituents of it. Happiness does not consist solely on what we get in life but also includes who we are and what traits are emerged eternally. Aristotle always asks what the ultimate purpose of human existence is. If happiness is the goal of every human beings according to Aristotle, however what does happiness imply? In his attempt to define what happiness is and to find a way to attain it that Aristotle comes across the idea of such virtues. Maybe it s not as easy for some people to comprehend but happiness does not depend on what we own; happiness comes from within. Aristotle incorporates that happiness is one of the main purposes of human life. The dominant characteristics of the U.S. regional airline industry are they are mostly controlled by larger airlines or have a contract with them to secure flights. . Most regional airlines are there for smaller communities to access a flight to the major hubs. Most of the regional airlines service to major airports, so they are connected or part of a servicing contract with national airlines, who in turn are part of the operations of the global airline industry. As major airlines go bankrupt, opportunities to take over the flights and collect on that revenue that was going to the majors can be realized for Sky West. It can go global. External threats include rising fuel costs, and limited domestic opportunities. 7. The company s future is promising. Revenues are increasing and its load factor is improving. Operating expenses are decreasing and compared to other regional airlines, SkyWest offers better benefits and compensation packages. It is performing efficiently; more so as each year passes. 8. SkyWest, Inc. must seek global markets to enter that allow joint ventures and potential for growth to strengthen the company s competitive position. I would recommend the management stay on top of technological advances in aircraft and purchase fuel efficient jets to lower fuel costs. Also, a plan to consolidate ASA offices with the offices of SkyWest would cut down operating costs. Dennis Marriott 2. Five Forces Analysis for SkyWest. Threat of New Entrants. The threat of new entrants is not a strong threat for SkyWest, Inc. because of its control of distribution channels is high (i.e. service contracts with major airlines), its proprietary knowledge is high as the company is an established company with experience in the industry, and capital requirements are high. • 31. Theories of Social Phobia Learning and Cognitive Theories of Social Phobia: Causation, Maintenance, and Treatment University Of Newcastle Social Phobia, also know as Social Anxiety Disorder, affects between 7 13% of individuals in western society (Furmark, 2002). It usually presents during adolescences and is typically chronic and lifelong (Veale, 2003). Two theories have been commonly used to explain the development and maintenance of the phobia: learning theory and cognitive theory. Both theories alone do not provide a comprehensive treatment plan, however when used in conjunction are much more effective. Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) identifies both behavioural and cognitive aspects of social phobia. By ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It proposes that fears and behaviours (both rational and irrational) are acquired through associative learning. Classical conditioning and operant conditioning are the two models used to explain the acquisition and maintenance of social phobia. Classical (or Pavlovian) conditioning associates a neutral stimulus with an unconditional stimulus through paired association. A neutral stimulus is an object or situation that under normal circumstances wouldn t elicit a fearful response (e.g., meeting with friends). An unconditional stimulus produces an automatic, unconditioned response (e.g., sweating or blushing). If the neutral stimulus is continuously paired with an unconditional stimulus it will elicit the unconditional response without the unconditional stimulus present. The individual has now been conditioned to view the social situation as threatening as opposed to non threatening. Based on this model, prolonged repetition of the eliciting stimulus without an aversive outcome should result in a progressive reduction of the conditioned response. This is called extinction, a process of reversal that breaks the association. Learning theory proposes that the treatment to social phobia is exposure, as the client will be exposed to their fear without an adverse outcome, and over time extinction will take place. However, social phobia is very resistant to extinction, as people often ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Early Life Of Buddhism Essay Furthermore, Buddhism was founded in the late 6th century B.C.E. by a man named Siddhartha Gautama, who is infamously known as the Buddha. Buddhism is the most influential religion in a lot of the Asian countries. Buddhism has assumed many different forms over the years, but there has always been an attempt to draw from the Buddha s life experiences and the essence of his teachings, known as dharma. These life experiences and teachings model an appropriate religious life. However, it wasn t until the first or second century that there was a complete account of the Buddha s life and that was due to the writing of Buddha Charita, which is the life of Buddha, by Ashvaghosa (The Origins of Buddhism). In a place near the Himalayan foothills around 563 B.C.E, the Buddha was born, and he then began in inspirational teachings around Benares at Sarnath. Buddha s life were in times of widespread religious, spiritual, intellectual, and social uproar, making his teaching gravely influential. They are inevitably tied in with suffering since we suffer from wanting them, wanting them to continue, and wanting pain to go so pleasure can come. The second Noble Truth is that suffering is caused by craving for sense pleasures and for things to be as they are not. We refuse to accept life as it is. The third Noble Truth, however, states that suffering has an end, and the fourth offers the means to that end: the Eight Fold Path and the Middle Way. Voice and Language in Their Eyes Were Watching God In one way or another, every person has felt repressed at some stage during their lives. Their Eyes Were Watching God is a story about one woman s quest to free herself from repression and explore her own identity; this is the story of Janie Crawford and her journey for self knowledge and fulfillment. Janie transforms many times as she undergoes the process of self discovery as she changes through her experiences with three completely different men. Her marriages serve as stepping stones in her search for her true self, and she becomes independent and powerful by overcoming her fears and learning to speak in her own, unique voice. Janie s first movement toward self awareness occurs shortly thereafter, when she becomes fascinated by the blooming of leaf buds under the pear tree. Here, Hurston uses the third person narrative in a speaker s voice that invites the reader into Janie s soul. For example, the narrative voice portraying the pear tree incident seems to have a nature somewhat intimate to Janie s: the rose of the world was breathing out smell. It followed her through all her waking moments and caressed her in her sleep. It connected itself with other vaguely felt matters that had struck her outside observation and buried themselves in her consciousness. (24). Hurston brilliantly combines an intimate voice with the omniscience of a third person narrator for a vivid denotation of the beginning of Janie s maturity and the initial stage in her development as a woman; she creates a powerful description of a young girl s sexual awakening. However, just as Janie is emerging as an individual and as a woman, her self discovery is

Sheds coat in spring...... A perfect example of a product of utilitarian education, Bitzer defines a horse off the top of his head in a split second. Utilitarianism is the assumption that human beings act in a way that highlights their own self interest. It is based on factuality and leaves little room for imagination. Dickens provides three vivid examples of this utilitarian logic in Hard Times. The first; Mr. Thomas Gradgrind, one of the main characters in the book, was the principal of a school in Coketown. He was a firm believer in utilitarianism and instilled this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How can you give a utilitarian man such as Gradgrind such power over a town? I do like how Dickens structures the book to make one ask obvious questions such as these. Dickens does not tell us much about the success of the other students of the school besides Bitzer, who is fairly successful on paper, but does not have the capacity as a person to deal with life s everyday struggles. Gradgrinds two oldest children, Tom and Louisa, are examples of how this utilitarian method failed miserably. These children were never given the opportunity to think for themselves, experience fun things in life, or even use their imaginations. True, they are smart people in the factual sense but do not have the street smarts to survive. Tom is a young man who, so fed up with his father s strictness and repetition, revolts against him and leaves home to work in Mr. Bounderby s bank. Tom, now out from under his fathers wing, he begins to drink and gamble heavily. Eventually, to get out of a deep gambling debt, he robs a bank and is forced to flee the area. When Bitzer realizes that Tom has robbed the bank and catches him, Mr. Gradgrind begs him to let Tom go, reminding him of all of the hard work that was put on him while at the school. Ironically Bitzer, using the tools of factuality that he had learned in Gradgrinds school, replies that the school was paid for, but it is now over and he owes nothing more.
