Square Enix Co., Ltd has been a striving company in the gaming industry especially in the financial
year of 2014/15 bringing home a net income of 9.8 trillion yens (US$80 million) (Watanabe, 2015),
one of the best results since 2008. However, according to CSRHub (2015), Square Enix has been rated
in the bottom 2 percentile for Corporate Social Responsibility Rankings, fairing lower than
competitors. This has raised an alarm amongst the stakeholders and executives as environmental and
sustainability issues were left out in the 2015 annual report (SQUARE ENIX HOLDINGS CO., LTD.,

In 2009, Perkins + Will was commissioned to design the Earth Sciences Building (ESB) at the
University of British Columbia. ESB is designed to develop the growing relations between the
Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmosphere, the Department of Statistics, the Pacific Institute for the
Mathematical Sciences, the Dean of Science and the Pacific Museum of the Earth, providing
important chances for shared learning and partnership. Placed along Main Mall, the primary north
