South Asian And Indian Societies
Long distance trades played a major role in economic, cultural and religious exchanges that took place
between major civilizations in Europe, Africa and Asia during the pre modern period. Chinese, West
Asian and Indian societies were the first ones to develop major transportation networks. A few
examples of such important trade routes are The Silk Route, The Trans Saharan Caravan Trade in
Africa and the maritime Spice Route. The Silk Road is the most famous trade network in the world
and its complex links across Eurasia is considered the first example of globalization. The network
exchanged not only commercial goods but also elements of civilization such as art, religion,
philosophy, technology and science therefore it was considered a cultural bridge between Asia and
Europe. The Silk Road (130 BCE to 1453 CE) consisted of links of trade routes of about 7000
kilometers, established during the Han Dynasty of China and it is considered the major economic
achievement of this Dynasty. The Han empire was constantly being threatened by the nomad tribe
Xiongnu from the North and at the time of emperor Wudi, it was decided that under the leadership of
Zhang Qian, the first delegation would sent out West in 138 BC in order to form an alliance with the
Yuezhi s peoples who had settled in Northern India, against the Xiongnu. The delegation eventually
brought back information regarding unknown states to the west and of a new breed of horses which
could enforce the Han cavalry against

What Is The Vietnam War Essay
As I read though out the many different perspectives on the issue of war between the United States
and Vietnam, my most reasonable conclusion is that I have to consider the Vietnam War as a failure
for the United States.
At the beginning of President Kennedy s administration, he sent Vice President Johnson to Vietnam on
a mission to find evidence, because he wanted to stop the spread of communism. Kennedy kept
sending many American military advisors to Vietnam, but the tyrannical leadership methods of South
Vietnam President Diem made President Kennedy s efforts useless. As the number of beaten up
military advisors increased, so did the disagreements about Kennedy s policies in Vietnam. In my
opinion, Kennedy s reasons for sending military ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
President Johnson made it clear to the American population and to the United States Ambassador to
South Vietnam, that he is not going to lose to the spread of communist in Vietnam, nor is he going to
send another American military troops and advisors to fight in Vietnam. In stead, he stated that the
Vietnamese could fight for themselves. However, Johnson s view of not involving in the war changed
drastically after the North Vietnamese torpedo boats attacked the United States destroyers in the Gulf
of Tonkin. As a revenge to this attack, President Johnson approved to counter attack North Vietnam.
By 1965, North Vietnamese were fully supported by the Soviet Union and China making the American
army to take out even more air support and ground forces into the South Vietnam. This cost American
government tremendous amount of money and lives. North Vietnam, along with the help from Soviet
Union and China, fully committed itself to defeating the United States and forces of South Vietnam.
American people questioned how did their army even fought against North Vietnam when there was
no realistic change for the Americans to trouble the North

The Relief and Intaglio Printmaking Process
Describe the Relief Printmaking process. List an artist who uses the form of printmaking. Refer to this
video for more information.
The Relief Printmaking process is a printmaking process in which someone covers a block of material,
such as wood, in ink. Then they proceed to deeply etch out the inked surface in the form of a design.
Once that is done, they lay paper over the block with pressure so that the ink is shared generously all
over the paper. When the paper is removed, the design will have been transferred and they will have
the finished artwork. Using a block of wood is known as Woodcut Relief Printmaking, or Woodcuts .
There are also Wood Engravings, where a stronger type of wood is used so an artist can engrave an
image into the surface rather than cut it out. In my opinion, the second step of the process could be left
to remain as the art itself. In the video showing the process as Lyell Castonguay created his piece,
Hydra , I thought the design in the ink coated wood looked more bold and real than the actually piece.
But this may only be for the reason that the finished product lacked color in comparison. Of course,
Lyell isn t the only artist who uses this printmaking process. Another artist who uses Relief
Printmaking is Katsushika Hokusai. Hokusai used the same process to create his color woodcut piece
called South Wind, Clear Sky , a portrayal of Mount Fuji. Describe the Intaglio Printmaking process.
List an artist who uses this form of printmaking.

The Use of the Permissive Induction Will Always Be More...
A PERSONALISED INDUCTION WILL ALWAYS BE MORE EFFECTIVE
Always is a metaphor, therefore it is a given and will happen. The title of this discussion leads to the
suggestion that the personalised induction will always be more effective, however, I am inclined to
disagree that this statement is true. Always is a metaphor, therefore it is a given and will happen. In
some clients this may be true, but not always. The type of client, the type of hypnotherapy required
and the state of mind of the client will also have factors to play. A personalised induction allows for a
more personal approach but in many cases this may not be possible.
Hypnosis is used for a wide range of problems; weight loss, smoking, stress and phobias to name but

Our brain will externalise instructions that it has internally stored and so people should behave and
react outwardly to what they are thinking internally, but we tend not to because of inhibitions. Our
internal world tends to be far more exciting than our external personas therefore by accessing it via
hypnosis we should be able to change this and lead just as exciting an outside world.
Our brains create our mental state, we can think ourselves into a state of mind. For example, your
body may be exhausted during exercise but if your brain keeps repeating that you can continue then
you can force your body to carry on.
In the early 1970s a student of psychology, Richard Bandler and an assistant professor of linguistics,
John Grinder identified that all humans have a series of modalities. All humans have a preference for a
specific sense or modality which we are born with and which is predominant and they use this more
than their other modalities. Each of the modalities has representations in the person s physiology,
language, behaviour and eye movement. Most people primarily define their world in a visual, auditory
or kinaesthetic way; but there are other modalities which include olfactory (smell), gustatory (taste)
and digital/audio (internal dialogue).
Hypnotherapists using this method conduct a preliminary interview to define their client s modality.

The Effect Of Bacterial Growth On Space Flight
Early studies have documented that bacterial growth increases in space flight; yet, the inherent
mechanisms beholden to this growth have not been discovered. As the bacteria devour nutrients, they
discharge corollary that can affect growth and impact ultimate cell population denseness. It is
acknowledged that these metabolic processes charge a reduction in density of the fluid zone and the
solute gradient about every cell. Along this planet, this fluctuation in density leads to an elasticity
transfer of the expelled by products. The fluid motion enclosing the cells can be changed through the
restricting of the movement to just diffusion because of the lack of activity and deposit in the low
gravity space flight surroundings. From this biophysical representation, it was speculated that an
increase in speed impacts the lag phase period and the final cell s denseness of suspended cultures of
bacteria in a deviating way. This is because of the modifications obtained in the extra cellular fluid
constitution. Contained in the paper are experiments of different accelerations that frequently
sustained this hypothesis, culmination in foreseeable growth kinetics. Other experiments show plumes
of fluid that are visible to the naked eye emerging from metabolizing bacterial cultures. If related fluid
kinetics were discovered to come about on a microscopic level, it might inform us of how acceleration
impacts bacterium growth kinetics.

Examples Of Existentialism In Waiting For Godot
The play Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett is famous for its cyclic storyline and non existing plot.
In the lines, Beckett incorporates themes of existentialism and the loss of hope. Throughout the two
acts of the play, the main protagonists, Vladimir and Estragon, spend their days waiting aimlessly for a
mysterious figure named Godot. While central in the play, Godot never makes an appearance in any
act, and merely exists as a name. While Pozzo and Lucky, two other characters make their appearance
in each act of the play, the boy is perhaps the most mysterious and intriguing. The boy, whom appears
towards the end of each act, exemplifies the never ending cycle of the search for hope that remains
unfulfilled through the use of symbolism, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If hope does not exist, Vladimir and Estragon will never fulfill their desires. Throughout the boy s
appearance, Vladimir continues to interrogate him, asking him several questions about the mysterious
figure that is Godot. Asking the boy about Godot, Vladimir asks, What does he do, Mr. Godot? Do
you hear me? (106), to which the boy merely replies as He does nothing, Sir (106). Thus, the futile
nature of hope is depicted through Beckett s use of symbolism. As Godot symbolizes hope, and the
boy stated that He (Godot) does nothing... (106), this hints the redundant existence of hope. Rather, it
is merely something individuals rely on to keep living, as for the case of Vladimir and Estragon, who
continuously wait for Godot. While they contemplate suicide many times throughout the book, it is
their motivation and continuous strive to wait for Godot that keeps them living to the next day. While
Godot has failed Vladimir and Estragon many times, failing to show up to the exact spot that they
believed they would meet him, they keep on waiting. Their strive and motivation is depicted as
Vladimir says, Tell him... Tell him you saw me and that... That you saw me. You re sure you saw me,
you won t come and tell me to morrow that you never saw me!

Ebenezer Scrooge s Visit by the Three Spirits in Dickens ...
Novels that are phenomenal makes the reader travel into a world where anything can happen.
However, many authors made the readers travel into the main characters mind or point of view. In
Charles Dickens novel, A Christmas Carol, a grumpy and selfish old man, Ebenezer Scrooge, was
visited in his dream by three spirits. It all started in the morning of Christmas Eve when Scrooge came
across into some events which made him started thinking and dreaming about his past, present and
future with 3 different sprits.
Many people believed that the three Spirits did visit Scrooge. It started when Scrooge heard Marley,
Scrooge s old partner in their job, softly in the air and saw him on Scrooge s knocker at his door.

Therefore, Scrooge didn t talk to the people, and remember that Scrooge doesn t like to chat with other

dream.
Ebenezer Scrooge has been reminded in the beginning of the story about his old friend, family, his
nephew, and Christmas. These facts in the beginning must have bothered him. But the most must have
been his friend Marley. After Marley left the book said, ... went straight to bed, without undressing,
and fell asleep on the instant. Scrooge must have been extremely tired and that s when he started to
dream. When Scrooge and the Spirits of Christmas Past visit Scrooge s past, Scrooge heard that it was
all silent outside. This is some how wrong because during Christmas Eve adults and children are out
playing, getting last minute gifts, or having a feast. After, Scrooge comes back from his past the

Examples Of Heroism In Antigone
Acts of heroism can be displayed in many different ways. In the play, Antigone, written by Sophocles,
the main character Antigone fought for what she believed in standing up against state law set by the
King. The Mother from 4 Maccabees also showed strength and virtue by having to watch all of her
seven sons be tortured and die right before her eyes. As being women in a society where they are
viewed as less equal to men, characters, Antigone and the Mother from 4 Maccabees did not let male
authoritarian rule get in the way of displaying valorous acts by sticking to their moral beliefs. The
author of 4 Maccabees wrote a story in the Bible to display how piety and reason overcame passion.

Antigone s brother, Polyneices was declared to be a traitor, according to King Kreon, against his own
country known as Thebes. For such actions King Kreon refused to let Polyneices have a proper burial
and would kill anyone who tried to give him one, which outraged Antigone. Antigone could not let
someone whose blood related to her not have a proper burial so she tries to get her sister, Ismene to
help her. Ismene replies, We must remember, first, that we two are by nature women and not fit to
fight with men; second, that we are ruled by others stronger than ourselves, and so must bow to this
and even greater griefs (Sophocles lines 61 64). Antigone being as passionate as she is ignores her
sister s fearfulness of the possible consequences and says to her, I shall bury him. To me it s fine to die
performing such a deed. I ll lie there, dear to him, with my dear friend, when I ve performed this crime
of piety; for I must please those down below a longer time than those up here, since I shall lie there
always (Sophocles lines 72 76). Antigone prefers to be dead with her brother who she loves very much
than to be alive and not have him have a proper burial. She believes that by committing such a crime it
is pure and will be vindicated by the Gods. Since Antigone is a woman it puts all the more pressure on
Kreon to stick to his orders because of the limitations of freedom set on Greek woman in the ancient
world. Her rebellious actions are out of line with her place in society as being a woman, which
disrupts the gender roles and Kings position over the people in the community. By not abiding by the
rules set by King Kreon she rises up against tyranny not only to expose her unique qualities of
individualism, but also to reach out to the other people in her community who haven t stood up against
the King and fought for what they believed to be

The Negative Impacts Of Violent Video Games
The negative impacts that are associated with violent gaming are a growing list. These many negative
effects could build up into a more serious situation, with all of the possible outcomes of these side
effects mixing together it could quite possibly take a turn for the worse. The use of violent video
games could cause players to participate in criminal violence, because of the increased levels of
aggression and rage. NBC News reported of a gory incident in January of 2013, which involved
Nehemiah Griego and his murderous actions toward his parents and three of his siblings in his home.
The fifteen year old boy killed his family because he had been angry with his mother in the days
before the murders. When questioned about his family, the boy was emotionless, but immediately after
the investigators asked what his interests were, his face lit up and he immediately began reminiscing
about his favorite video games, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and Grand Theft Auto (2013).
Common sense media explains the game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, with a vivid description; a
bloody military shooting game with disturbing cinematic moments (n.d.). Could Griego s avid gaming
schedule, and love for the bloody first person shooting game be slightly related to his urge to kill
(2013b)? His decision to kill all the occupants of his house did not solely result from one night of
gaming, for it was an accumulation of risk factors. It is likely that his love for gaming could have had

Questions On Supply Chain Flexibility
Vickery et al. [43, p. 16] define supply chain flexibility as encompassing those flexibility dimensions
that directly impact firms customers and that are the shared responsibility of two or more functions

that are present in a customer focused supply chain. The dimensions includes: product flexibility,
volume flexibility, Launch flexibility, access flexibility, Responsiveness to target markets. (40.)

Flexibility can be seen as an ability of a supply chain that helps to gain competitive advantage and
improve success. To improve the flexibility of a supply chain we suggest building up and using certain
supply chain networks. By configuring supply chain networks it is possible to design and manage an
important part of an entire supply chain. Within supply chain networks specific flexibility potentials
can be developed to realize a high degree of supply chain flexibility. An improvement in the flexibility
of an entire supply chain is necessary to achieve remarkable performance results. (45). by the design
and use of strategic supply chain networks significant improvements of supply chain flexibility can be
achieved. (45). Flexibility is the ability of a system to perform proactive and reactive adaptations of its

Public Policy Concerning Education During Prisons
Public policy concerning education in prisons decisively emphasizes punitive programming over
rehabilitate or educational programming. In regards to higher education in prisons the persuasive
public echo of why should criminals get for free what the rest of us pay for is a falsehood built on the
backs of these rulings. I would argue that the education paid for through incarceration entails a greater
personal cost of freedoms than a paid tuition could ever represent. I doubt anyone would ever go to
prison to obtain a free education. The ever increasing costs of higher education invoke a regime of
scarcity that produces anxiety within the working and middle class. Higher education no longer
represents automatic future economic security, furthering social fear. I would argue against the
elimination of higher education in prisons; research shows that prison education reduces recidivism
rates and improves public safety (Chappell). Education behind bars means a greater likelihood of post
release employment. Post release employment means stability and independence. Stability and
independence mean a lower chance of recidivism. Criminal justice researchers Richard Tewksbury
and Kenneth Stengel conclude a more abstract benefit of prison education than just reducing
recidivism, Participation in educational programs yields a positive influence on the psychological well
being of inmates, reduces rule infractions, and enrolled inmates serve as role models to other inmates

There Is A Reason Why God Allows Evil
In John Hick s piece There is a Reason Why God Allows Evil , he explains his view on the roots of
evil. Hick brings up the problem of an all loving God that allows evil to occur in the world. The
conclusion that arises God must not be all loving then. However, Hick explains that humans free will
is the problem that leads to evil. A few strengths that Hick has in his argument is the laws of nature, he
mentions that they ...would have to be extremely flexible; sometimes gravity would operate,
sometimes not; sometimes an object would be hard and solid, sometimes soft. There could be no
sciences, for there would be no enduring world structure to investigate (129). Nothing could hurt
anyone or anything, and the world would be some perfect fairytale; ...life would become like a dream
in which, delightfully but aimlessly, we would float and drift at ease (130). Hick goes on to explain
that evil allows people to learn what is good, grace and faith. If evil doesn t exist, then how could one
tell the difference from right or wrong? There would be no moral lessons to be taught or learned from
since there is no wrong, and wrong an only be done when there is evil. Hick also mentions that
bravery, courage and strength would have no point and meaning. Everything that builds character
would not exist. The weakness in Hicks argument is that he is blaming free will for the ultimate cause
of evil. There are obviously nature disasters that could be considered evil as well. Hick believes that

Descartes and the Mind Essay
The topic of the mind and how do we know has been around since the beginning of time.
It is one of those questions that will most likely never be answered. I mean, the mind itself is so
perplexing that we are still learning stuff about it daily. One question that Descartes proposed was how
do we know? we still are pondering this one today. We ask it almost every day, maybe not in that way
but in some form or another. So honestly, how do we know? Whenever Descartes started studying
about the mind he denounced all of his previous opinions and started fresh. He first stated that
knowledge is seen as a building in which all the superstructure is resting on a foundation, and the
building is only as strong as its foundation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So he began to ponder on how to prove that he truly did exist. He finally came up with this: Thought
exists; it alone cannot be separated from me. I am; I exist this is certain. But for how long? For as long
as I am thinking; for perhaps it could also come to pass that if I were to cease all thinking I would then
utterly cease to exist. At this time I admit nothing that is not necessarily true. I am therefore precisely
nothing but a thinking thing; that is a mind, or intellect, or understanding, or reason words of whose
meanings I was previously ignorant. Yet I am a true thing and am truly existing; but what kind of
thing? I have said it already: a thinking thing (Meditation II 31).
So in proving that he existed he also proved who he was or who we are. We are thinking things things
that can function as long as we think, but the moment that we stop thinking is the moment that we no
longer exist. So is that the moment we die? Or is it something entirely different? So through this he
proved that anything that he cannot doubt then that is what he is. And whatever he can doubt, then he
is not. He now had the knowledge of knowing about himself of who and what he was.
But there was a problem with this, that even though one doubted something then it could still be true.
One could doubt that he/she won a race even though they did win. Even though

Examples Of Flattery In Julius Caesar
One of the themes from Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare is that power and flattery can affect

Exploration of Castles Essay
Exploration of Castles
A.D 450 saw the creation of castles. Romans were replaced by Anglo Saxon foes, and these did leave
behind a system of castles however these were for Motte and Bailey castles built in the reign of
Edward the confessor.
The Norman invasion of 1066 was one of the causes for castles to become an important part of
defence. After king Harold s defeat by William the conqueror, William was concerned about how he
would control the country with only a limited number of troops facing a hostile environment. He did
not have enough troops to station them everywhere, so he used a very useful tactic that had worked in
Normandy previously. This was a simplified castle known as a ... Show more content on

The pathways and ladders that allowed reach to important areas of the castle have been removed or

As time progressed, the situation in England changed. The Normans were now in control of England
and there was little resistance from hostile sources, therefore a concentration on the development of
castles occurred.
Less time was needed for castles to be constructed quickly and therefore time could be used to search
for better materials for building. This meant that stone could be used instead of wood, which was used
previously. By 1100, the earth that had held Motte and bailey castles had now settles, and was capable
of sustaining much larger weights. With the change to stone castles, fire was not a concern as it was
when Motte and baileys were in use.
Square keeps were used when the development of stone castles were quite young. They were often
built in the most important places, to show how powerful the Normans were. Square keeps were good
because of the immense thickness of the walls. The walls in square keeps were often up to 5 metres
thick, and 30 metres high. This added to the strength of the castle because the walls could easily
withstand attacks from siege weapons such as magonels and trebuchets.

REVIEW OF ARTICLE ENTITLED
LEADERSHIP IS A CONVERSATION
INTRODUCTION
The authors of this article are Boris Groysberg and Michael Slind. It is published in the Harvard
Business Review, June 2012. Boris Groysberg is a Professor of Business Administration in the

The authors believe that this will help employees from all levels of the company hierarchy to gain a
general understanding on where the company stands in its competitive environment.
The authors then conclude the article by stating that the flow of conversation is out of control and that
smart leaders learn how to use conversation to their benefit by managing the flow of information in an
honest fashion. One way communication has become an antique but people will listen to conversation
that is intimate, interactive, inclusive and intentional.
CRITUQUE
In the article, Groysberg and Slind give several examples of how business communications are dealt
with in our current world. However, some of the points raised are questionable. Such as that of
Athenahealth where the company entrusts secret documents to all their workers and hence makes them
all insiders . This is worrying, as to deem all employees as responsible is a clear generalisation. They
are sure to be several bad apples in any company, waiting to spill their company secrets to a
competitor. Athenahealth s idea requires a high level of trust which is not possibly attainable in a
world where white collar crime is rampant. Practices like these might lead to companies losing
revenue as ideas are stolen by other companies. Therefore, communications between the top brass and
the employees should be amiable and open, but not to the extent where company secrets are divulged
easily.

The Grand Canyon, A Landscape Made From Mixed Media
The Grand Canyon, one of the United States most popular tourist attractions. The canyon has drawn
various people to it, including artists who depict its beauty in multiple forms. Throughout this report, I
will be discussing and critiquing Rose Eagers Grand Canyon, a landscape made from mixed media.
While reviewing this piece of art at the Carnegie Art Center located in Turlock, CA; I learned a lot
about the content.
Rose Eager, in her later years was a victim of macular degeneration, a horrific disease of the eye that
slowly changes the way we see. Macular Degeneration recently diminished my ability to see color and
depth, so I started a new series of work using achromatic neutrals, black, white, and grey over

Eager has multiple aspects of her image that strongly support a formalist viewpoint. Her artwork has
definite structural aspects that have a greater meaning then you originally think. To break down the
image in even more depth, when you first glance at the image, the first area that your eye is drawn to
is the tree, more specifically the tree branches. These branches are extremely textured, giving them
almost a true bark like appearance. The leaves on the upper left corner of the piece look like they are
almost protruding off of the rest of the image.
The form of this image also adds to its components of formal analysis. Form is based on color,
composition, texture and line. This image by Eager has all of these major elements. The composition
is constructed with purpose, to show the flow and depth growing throughout the image. There are
multiple lines in this art piece, the first can be seen through the top of the work, it goes through the
tops of the trees and atop the mountain peaks. Then, there are implied lines, one can be seen between
the mountain peaks coming towards the tree, or vice versa. The color scheme again follows her
depiction of living with Macular Degeneration, she lost the ability to see colors, and in her image, she
only used shades of greys and black. In order to combat the depth, she was losing

Essay On Tn Ready
State Should Replace TN Ready In recent years the state of Tennessee has experienced many problems
with their new standardized testing called TN Ready. The new TN Ready standardized testing is
unbeneficial to students and teachers. In the best interest of students and teachers the state should
abolish TN Ready, and replace with the ACT Aspire and the ACT. Ever since the fall of 2015, when
TN Ready began the state has experienced many problems, some of which still exist two years later.
The original plan was to have students test online from the get go, but that was halted when the system
students were using crashed. After the computer system crashed the state then decided to test on paper,
which the vendor could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bottom line is the state should not have begun a new way of testing student and teacher performance
until they were certain that teachers and students would experience no problems during testing. Since
a new test in and of itself is hard enough for teachers and students to learn how to do, the transition
from TCAP to TN Ready should have been smooth from the get go, but it was not. The state should
abolish TN Ready and move to the ACT Aspire for grades three through ten and the ACT for grade
eleven. Using the ACT Aspire and the ACT can serve many purpose. The first and perhaps the biggest
benefit of using the ACT Aspire and the ACT is that it can show not only how well students are
performing state wide but also how well they are performing nationally. There is also more practice
resources out for ACT whereas there is hardly any for educators or students to use for TN Ready.
Finally using the ACT Aspire and the ACT would better prepare students for college admissions,
because teachers would be able to focus instruction solely on an exam that is comparable to that of the
ACT. Using the ACT Aspire and the ACT is a win win situation for everyone.
Those opposed to using the ACT Aspire or the ACT would argue that it does not use some free
response questions like that of TN Ready, and that it does not

A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur s Court
Even though the setting of both works, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court by Mark Twain
and The Crucible by Arthur Miller, are written in a time period different from their publication, both
works use characters in their novels as a critique of the author s societies. Twain uses his satirical
work to make fun of both the Northern and Southern, but does not make any direct comparisons
between the characters of his novel to real life figures. On the other hand, the characters in Miller s
novel are more directly correlated to specific people and groups during the Second Red Scare.

During the Second Red Scare the Hollywood Ten were a group of ten actors, directors, and producers
who according to Senator Joseph Mccarthy had communist ties and were trying to spread Soviet
Propaganda through American society by way of media. Even though these actors may have had slight
ties to communism Miller believed that they did not deserve to be blacklisted from all of media after
the trials. Miller uses John Proctor, the protagonist of his novel, to show the unfairness of these trials.
Proctor, while not perfect, was the most sane and righteous man in the town of Salem during the
events of the novel, but he still was put in jail for a crime that Miller believed would be minor in the
eyes of his audiences. Proctor committed adultery, but did not commit any crimes that would have
been generous to Miller s audiences. Even for this slight crime Proctor was put to death by the judges
of Salem. This is in comparison to the treatment of the Hollywood Ten by Mccarthy and Congress
during the Second Red Scare, where there crimes were slight, but they were put to death anyway due
to a power trip by a a few people in power. This direct comparison between Proctor and the
Hollywood Ten allowed Miller to make the Hollywood Ten seem more innocent and worthy of trust.
His use of unfair treatment against Proctor also made it seem to the audiences that Mccarthy and his

Leadership and Organization Structure Essay
Leadership and Organization Structure All organizations have a structure; criminal justice is much as
the military in regards to having a chain of command that delegates his/her authority downward from
the major command element (Stohr Collins, 2014). Max Weber defined the characteristics of a
bureaucracy as the following: there is a hierarchy of authority that has several levels where each level
is controlled by the one above them and includes formal procedures (Stillman, 2010; Stohr Collins,
2014). Each position is divided with no overlap of duties and the work environment would be
impersonal with employment decisions based on the employees technical qualifications (Stillman,

Within law enforcement, the hierarchy would look something like this: chief, assistant chief, major,
lieutenant on down to the line officers. Courts would have a judge, prosecutor, defense attorney,
bailiff, clerk, etc. and corrections would be warden, colonel, lieutenant colonel, major, captain,
lieutenant, sergeant and correctional officer (Stohr Collins, 2014). As you can see law enforcement
and corrections is very similar to the military rank structure. Directives will flow from the top echelon
to the middle and then to the lowest level. In law enforcement, it is a general thought that at certain
times of the month speeding tickets seem to increase and we jokingly say the officer must be trying to
make his monthly quota. If this statement is indeed true, then, it implies that the supervisor is checking
the number of written tickets, therefore, placing more emphasis on the quantity not the quality of
work. Holding employees accountable is paramount; however, when superiors are micromanaging,
valuable time is wasted. The time could have been utilized reviewing the results of the subordinate s
actions. When law enforcement officers are forced to adopt

The Age Of Enlightenment And The American Revolution
The Age of Enlightenment was the gateway to more individualized theories and ways of
contemplating. The way people used to reason and think was gone. A lot of people started to come
across further developments in the science fields. They also began to separate from restricting groups.
People were encouraged by Enlightenment thinkers to think beyond what restricted them. As soon as
this idea was embedded in their minds people started separating from the church and the
laws/principles they had conformed to prior to the enlightened thinkers. The principles or dogma were
said to be detrimental to the thought process of people. It was said to be in place to restrict people
from feeling things they truly felt. The same went with religion. Prior to the encouragement of the
enlightened thinkers people blindly followed any religion they were told to. No one thought for
themselves. First, one of history s most prime examples of enlightened thinkers influencing people
and the way that they think is the American Revolution. The American Revolution perfectly and
beyond adequately demonstrates thinkers encouraging people to fight against those oppressing them.
The American people in this situation were encouraged to fight by Joh Locke. Locke was commonly
known for being a philosopher, his essay on human understanding, and his interest in a limited
government. However, more common than most he is known for his argument on the theory of natural
rights. John Locke believed in having

Symbolism In Crooked River Burning By Mark Winegardner
Most novels include some type of symbolism that plays an important role in the dynamic and the plot
development of their storyline. In the novel Crooked River Burning by Mark Winegardner, one
symbol remains prevalent throughout the entire book. The city of Cleveland and the crooked
Cuyahoga river plays an incredible role in the interconnections between the characters of the story. As
the Cuyahoga river divides the East and West sides of the city, it also, in turn, divides the two star
crossed lovers Anne O Connor and David Zielinsky. However, the thing that makes them so different
is also the very thing that brings them together. The downfall and upbringing of Cleveland directly
influences and nearly parallels the complicated and ever changing relationship between Anne and
David. Cleveland is described as one of the greatest cities in the world at the beginning of this novel.
The Indians are having a winning season and have started integrating their team, Elliot Ness is taking
down crime left and right with the Untouchables, Dorothy Fuldheim is reinventing United States
television as she becomes the first woman news anchor in history, the local newspapers are soaring in
sales and publicity, and Alan Freed is creating rock and roll through his radio show. The two main
characters of the novel, David Zielinsky and Anne O Connor, both witness these successes and
innovations firsthand, albeit in slightly different ways. David grows up in Old Brooklyn, the west side

Mao Zedong And The Great Leap Forward
Did you know that Mao Zedong is in fact the greatest mass murderer in world history? On the other
hand, did you know that without Mao Zedong, China would not be the world power with a leading
economy that it is today? These seemingly contradictory statements are only part of the persistent
dispute about Mao s complicated and controversial legacy. The leadership of Mao Zedong in China
from 1921 1976, including the Great Leap Forward, his Five Year Plans, and the Cultural Revolution,
significantly impacted China in both positive and negative ways, leaving him with a very controversial
legacy that is still debated today.
Throughout most of its long history, China was ruled through a series of dynasties characterized by
alternating periods of unity and fragmentation. After the Chinese people overthrew the Qing dynasty
in 1911 during the Chinese Revolution, China became a republic, known as the Republic of China
(Gay 14). In 1921, Mao Zedong became one of the founding members of the Chinese Communist
Party. Through a series of military and political successes, The Chinese Communist Party grew in
power until 1949 when Mao Zedong proclaimed the People s Republic of China, a communist party
led country with himself as its sole ruler.
Once Mao Zedong rose to power, he began implementing his vision of China as an industrialized
nation built on Communist ideals. For example, to further enhance China s reputation and world
presence, Mao signed a treaty with the world s only other

Democratic Peace Theory
Intro: US Presidents have made it a goal during their term(s) in office to establish a good relationship
with foreign countries and even try to improve upon existing connections with our allies. Some
believe it is to prevent conflicts between the countries while others dispute that it is a threat
assessment by the United States to pick and choose their friends and enemies. Preventing conflict
between two democracies or countries that practice democracy is called Democratic Peace Theory.
However, research has begun to show that Democratic Peace Theory is ineffective and needs to be

Gleditsch asks the question if democracies really do keep the peace and he found out that they try to
but also sometimes have problems within their own house (Gleditsch 289). This could explain why
rebellions within a country usually win because the government is torn if they should quiet the
rebellion or concede because they do not want to be thrown out of office.
Shouldn t leave the football with a passionate fan: Democratic Peace Theory cannot work as a solution
for unsuccessful talks when it comes to foreign policy because when deciding if democracies should
go to war with one another, having the citizens decide is bad because the average person does not
think rationally, they think emotionally which leads to more problems. Take the Cold War of the
United States against the USSR as an example of how emotions almost destroyed two nations. People
were spying on their own family members out of fear of being branded a communist and the fear of
nuclear annihilation was ever present danger that children were doing drills in case of nuclear fallout.
Had it not been for Gorbachev assuming power in Russia and letting his people see what freedom was
about through his policies, we would not be here today. Mr. Layne, author of Kant or Can t, furthers
the point by stating that Democracies behave differently against non democracies (Layne 4).

b. I believe the customers do make high volume purchases, which would make them powerful.

e. The tobacco growers (suppliers) do not have differentiation in their product. This weakens their
power because the tobacco industry does not have to pay more for the tobacco because it is basically
all the same.
f. It is not costly to switch suppliers. Some companies choose to switch to a less expensive supplier in
order to lower the cost of their products. This weakens the power of the suppliers.
g. The suppliers can not easily vertically integrate forward and become their own customer because of
the many costs in manufacturing tobacco.
h. Overall, I believe the suppliers are highly powerful in the tobacco industry.
Existing Industry Competitors
a. Overall, the growth rate of the industry is moderate. Tobacco consumption is rising rapidly in
developing countries. However, in the U.S. cigarette consumption has been slipping by about two
percent per year. This means that there is a moderate level of competition for the existing tobacco
industry competitors.

competition at a moderate level because the companies want to increase sales possibly by lowering
costs and still earn a profit.

Essay on European and Native American Relations
Beginning in the sixteenth century, Europeans made the voyage to a new world in order to achieve
dreams of opportunity and riches. In this other world the Europeans came upon another people, which
naturally led to a cultural exchange between different groups of people. Although we commonly refer
to European and Indian relations as being between just two very different groups of people, it is
important to recognize this is not entirely true. Although the settlers of the new world are singularly
referred to as Europeans, each group of people came from a different nation and with different
motives and expectations of the new world. Similarly, the Indians were neither a united group nor
necessarily friendly with each other. Due to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Verrazano speaks kindly of these courteous and generous groups, he also speaks of encounters
with people he deems full of crudity and vices. He claims that interaction with these groups was
difficult. He describes their attempts to trade with this group; they sent us what they wanted to give on
a rope, continually shouting to us not to approach the land. This description provides us some insight
into the feelings of the Indians towards these new European invaders. Their actions seem to be based
on fear and apprehension towards these unknown men (Voices of Freedom, 9). Much of European
criticism of Native American was based on differences in religion, land use, and gender relations.
Most Europeans reasoned that Indians needed to be converted to the true religion of Christianity (Give
Me Liberty, 11). In fact, Verrazano concluded that the Indians had no religion or laws (Voices of
Freedom, 10). The Europeans did not understand the Indians use of the land and thus justified
overtaking it, reasoning that they did not truly use it. Some Europeans criticized gender relations,
claiming that women lacked freedom due to their work in the fields (Give me Liberty, 12 13). Others,
like Verrazano, criticized the Indians for having absolute freedom in which they did not abide to any
laws due to ignorance (Voices of Freedom, 10). Regardless of

Eminent Domain Essay example
Eminent Domain is the government s right under the Fifth Amendment to acquire privately owned
property for public use to build a road, a school or a courthouse. Under eminent domain, the
government buys your property, paying you what s determined to be fair market value. In recent years,
there has been much debate over the appropriateness of eminent domain, and further its legality in
specific instances. The government is allowed to seize personal property for private use if they can
prove that doing it will serve what s called the public good . There have been many cases brought up
against the government in attempt to regulate the government s power in seizing private property.

ft for homes in a specific neighborhood. In an area with older houses, many of these qualifications
may not be met, which would in turn classify certain houses as blighted. This does not imply that the
homeowners have failed to maintain there property properly, but infers that the area can be used for a
higher and better use.
Amongst topics of conversation regarding eminent domain, one will find regulatory usage of land,
seizing of land for public use, and the most controversial of late, the seizing of land from a private
owner and giving it to a more economically beneficial, often politically connected private owner. Kelo
v New London (US 2005), has prompted dozens of proposals to reform eminent domain practices
legislatively. Most of these proposals would restrict the use of eminent domain to transfer property
from one private individual to another. It is one thing to have a city claim property to further the
development of the city by building roads, schools, etc. It is another thing altogether for the
government to seize a property so as to gain money from higher taxation. For many years, however,
courts have read the public use restraint broadly, enabling governments to take property from one
owner, often small and powerless, and transfer it to another, often large and politically connected, all
in the name of economic development, urban renewal, or job creation.
With the media s focus on cases like Kelo v New London, the public is

Avian Aspergillosis
Avian Aspergillosis
The subfamily Aspergillus has a wide range of fungi which can cause Avian Aspergillosis. Aspergillus
Fumigatus is the most commonly diagnosed species of the fungus, others include flavus and niger.
Aspergillus Fumigatus tends to thrive in moist and warm environments. Endotoxins are released
through the dispersal of microscopic spores, which usually become airborne. This enables the disease
to travel from one location to another and then proceed to grow, which creates areas that are more
highly populated compared to others. In small minorities the fungus is less likely to have adverse
consequences. Some factors concerning the environment that can increase the chances of a bird

Acute Avian Aspergillus can create a loss of appetite and can cause severe difficulty when breathing.
This can be seen by the bird showing signs of accelerated breathing, gasping and voice changes. An
infected bird might also have abnormal excretion, a strong thirst with excessive urination or show
signs of emaciation and central nervous system damage. This severe damage will be evident in an
obvious lack of muscular coordination and mobility; the bird might also hold its head at an unnatural
angles. Central nervous system damage will only occur if the fungal infection reaches the brain. The
most common signs of Avian Aspergillosis are drooped wings and rapid opening and closing of the
bird s bill. The fungus usually affects the respiratory region including the trachea, lungs and syrinx;
the infection can however spread to the kidneys, brain, skin, and muscles. Since Aspergillus can be
fatal, a lot of birds are diagnosed post mortem. The signs from an autopsy can include brain tissue

the Montagues. This feud includes every one of every rank and ranges from the masters of the two
houses and their sons to the servants and keepers. The reason for this feud is not introduced but the
disastrous violence , riot , quarrels , and blood shedding resulting from this rivalry is described. The
danger is lurking and the strife might break out at any moment as described by Hickey: The time of
the action of the play Romeo and Juliet lasts only for five days. It is a time of a strife that can burst at
any moment due to the slightest provocation .The heat of men s mind is similar to the heat of the
atmosphere .The mad blood is stirring in these days .At any moment the lightning may blast and the
crashing of the thunder be heard.(62) Shakespeare uses a variety of techniques that enhance the tone
of the play .one of the them is the use of the chorus .The chorus at the beginning of the play gives us
an account of the nature of anger of both houses stating that their hands are stained with bloods: Two
households, both alike in dignity, In fair Verona, where we lay our scene, From ancient grudge break
to new mutiny, Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean. From forth the fatal loins of ... Show

Cultural Project
The country I have decided to choose is the amazing and beautiful island of the Dominican
Republican. The reason I have chosen this country is because I plan on vacationing here over summer
break. My significant other and I have been trying to find different places to vacation and this project
was a perfect opportunity for me to explore one of our favorite options. The beautiful island of the
Dominican Republic is positioned in the Caribbean Sea, and it is a portion of the West Indies. Its
region equals that of Vermont and New Hampshire combined. The Dominican Republic shares the
land with Haiti and the whole island is known as Hispaniola. The Dominican Republic lies on the east

served for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Soups are another big thin in this country, Dominicans take
much pride in their soups and everyone on the island claims to make the best soup. More than a third

Exorcism In The Devil I Know
During demonic possessions, an exorcism may be required. This is a process in which the inhabiting
demon is expelled from a vessel or host s body. In order to perform an exorcism, an ordained voodoo
priestess must be in attendance. Jackie Barrett is among one of the most well known priestesses. Due
to the fact that Barrett s mother was a priestess, Barrett had grown up around, and been a part of the
supernatural community all her life; which gave her an affinity for those who needed exorcisms.
Barrett assisted with many cases and gave people closure by working with her partner who was a
police officer. In her book The Devil I Know, Barrett delves into the mind and psyche of Ronald
DeFeo, the man accused of killing his family. Barrett s goal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

An online review states Ultimately, it s not the supernatural aspects of this case that are terrifying but
instead the documented events that transpired the night of the DeFeo family killing (Miller 1). The
legal aspect and the supernatural are the two main points in the book, both relying on the other to
support themselves. The supernatural shows that Ronald DeFeo Jr. may not have been fully guilty, and
without the supernatural side drawing Jackie Barrett to DeFeo, the truth might never have been
released. Even though some do not believe in the supernatural aspects, the rest of the story is
interesting and compelling. Barrett s book takes the reader back into history and shows unknown
aspects and perspectives surrounding the murders, and it also gives a glimpse into DeFeo s mentality.
The supernatural side brought the truth to the light Whether or not you believe the stories about the
Amityville Horror, The Devil I Know is a truly well researched exploration and study of a truly evil
(Miller 1). Even if the magical aspects of the book seems imaginary, it is hard to deny that it did not

A handheld tool set with multiple tools is great to have for around the home, while out biking or
camping. You won t have to worry about something breaking down and not having the right tools for
the job. Nobody carries a toolbox out with them on a bike ride, but a tool for repairs is essential.
Around the Home
It s handy to have a Snap On tool for repairs like the 870456 13 in 1 Multi function Tool. While you re
home, you could dig through your toolbox for the correct tool, but it s easier to have everything you
need in one piece. For example, the 13 in 1 has stainless steel tools like a small knife, an awl and two
screwdrivers. This is a tool you can carry in your pocket while you walk around the home making
small, maintenance repairs.

Currently, our Governor, Freddie Ja Darius Parsons, is about to speak about the largest and most
ambitious project the Terran Contingent has ever embarked on.
Homies all around, from the highlands of Oregon to the forests north of our Capital; our expats; and
all of our RASCAL peoples around the world and in space not to mention the rest of the Federation. I
greet you today with that Rhodigai love.
Hundreds of millions of years ago, back when the Rhodigai Federation had barely made it out of its
own galaxy cluster, a plan was put forth by the then Supreme Kelly Rae Cheeseman LXXXVII to
terraform the five moons of the Rhodigai homeworld, Kanesdor: Nysko, Morau, Shaeren, Morha, and
Sanaed.
The transformation she proposed entailed turning these moons from balls of dust and ice with thin
excuses for atmospheres into full on habitable worlds on which for life to flourish. Keep in mind that
up to that point, the Rhodigai had only seriously dealt with planets and moons that were already
habitable, aside from mining

The ļ¬nancial assets, on the other hand, consist of the ļ¬nancial claims on the earnings. These claims

  • 2. South Asian And Indian Societies Long distance trades played a major role in economic, cultural and religious exchanges that took place between major civilizations in Europe, Africa and Asia during the pre modern period. Chinese, West Asian and Indian societies were the first ones to develop major transportation networks. A few examples of such important trade routes are The Silk Route, The Trans Saharan Caravan Trade in Africa and the maritime Spice Route. The Silk Road is the most famous trade network in the world and its complex links across Eurasia is considered the first example of globalization. The network exchanged not only commercial goods but also elements of civilization such as art, religion, philosophy, technology and science therefore it was considered a cultural bridge between Asia and Europe. The Silk Road (130 BCE to 1453 CE) consisted of links of trade routes of about 7000 kilometers, established during the Han Dynasty of China and it is considered the major economic achievement of this Dynasty. The Han empire was constantly being threatened by the nomad tribe Xiongnu from the North and at the time of emperor Wudi, it was decided that under the leadership of Zhang Qian, the first delegation would sent out West in 138 BC in order to form an alliance with the Yuezhi s peoples who had settled in Northern India, against the Xiongnu. The delegation eventually brought back information regarding unknown states to the west and of a new breed of horses which could enforce the Han cavalry against ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. What Is The Vietnam War Essay As I read though out the many different perspectives on the issue of war between the United States and Vietnam, my most reasonable conclusion is that I have to consider the Vietnam War as a failure for the United States. At the beginning of President Kennedy s administration, he sent Vice President Johnson to Vietnam on a mission to find evidence, because he wanted to stop the spread of communism. Kennedy kept sending many American military advisors to Vietnam, but the tyrannical leadership methods of South Vietnam President Diem made President Kennedy s efforts useless. As the number of beaten up military advisors increased, so did the disagreements about Kennedy s policies in Vietnam. In my opinion, Kennedy s reasons for sending military ... President Johnson made it clear to the American population and to the United States Ambassador to South Vietnam, that he is not going to lose to the spread of communist in Vietnam, nor is he going to send another American military troops and advisors to fight in Vietnam. In stead, he stated that the Vietnamese could fight for themselves. However, Johnson s view of not involving in the war changed drastically after the North Vietnamese torpedo boats attacked the United States destroyers in the Gulf of Tonkin. As a revenge to this attack, President Johnson approved to counter attack North Vietnam. By 1965, North Vietnamese were fully supported by the Soviet Union and China making the American army to take out even more air support and ground forces into the South Vietnam. This cost American government tremendous amount of money and lives. North Vietnam, along with the help from Soviet Union and China, fully committed itself to defeating the United States and forces of South Vietnam. • 4. The Relief and Intaglio Printmaking Process Describe the Relief Printmaking process. List an artist who uses the form of printmaking. Refer to this video for more information. The Relief Printmaking process is a printmaking process in which someone covers a block of material, such as wood, in ink. Then they proceed to deeply etch out the inked surface in the form of a design. Once that is done, they lay paper over the block with pressure so that the ink is shared generously all over the paper. When the paper is removed, the design will have been transferred and they will have the finished artwork. Using a block of wood is known as Woodcut Relief Printmaking, or Woodcuts . There are also Wood Engravings, where a stronger type of wood is used so an artist can engrave an image into the surface rather than cut it out. In my opinion, the second step of the process could be left to remain as the art itself. In the video showing the process as Lyell Castonguay created his piece, Hydra , I thought the design in the ink coated wood looked more bold and real than the actually piece. But this may only be for the reason that the finished product lacked color in comparison. Of course, Lyell isn t the only artist who uses this printmaking process. Another artist who uses Relief Printmaking is Katsushika Hokusai. Hokusai used the same process to create his color woodcut piece called South Wind, Clear Sky , a portrayal of Mount Fuji. Describe the Intaglio Printmaking process. List an artist who uses this form of printmaking. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Use of the Permissive Induction Will Always Be More... A PERSONALISED INDUCTION WILL ALWAYS BE MORE EFFECTIVE Always is a metaphor, therefore it is a given and will happen. The title of this discussion leads to the suggestion that the personalised induction will always be more effective, however, I am inclined to disagree that this statement is true. Always is a metaphor, therefore it is a given and will happen. In some clients this may be true, but not always. The type of client, the type of hypnotherapy required and the state of mind of the client will also have factors to play. A personalised induction allows for a more personal approach but in many cases this may not be possible. Hypnosis is used for a wide range of problems; weight loss, smoking, stress and phobias to name but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our brain will externalise instructions that it has internally stored and so people should behave and react outwardly to what they are thinking internally, but we tend not to because of inhibitions. Our internal world tends to be far more exciting than our external personas therefore by accessing it via hypnosis we should be able to change this and lead just as exciting an outside world. Our brains create our mental state, we can think ourselves into a state of mind. For example, your body may be exhausted during exercise but if your brain keeps repeating that you can continue then you can force your body to carry on. In the early 1970s a student of psychology, Richard Bandler and an assistant professor of linguistics, John Grinder identified that all humans have a series of modalities. All humans have a preference for a specific sense or modality which we are born with and which is predominant and they use this more than their other modalities. Each of the modalities has representations in the person s physiology, language, behaviour and eye movement. Most people primarily define their world in a visual, auditory or kinaesthetic way; but there are other modalities which include olfactory (smell), gustatory (taste) and digital/audio (internal dialogue). Hypnotherapists using this method conduct a preliminary interview to define their client s modality. The type of induction consequently ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Effect Of Bacterial Growth On Space Flight Early studies have documented that bacterial growth increases in space flight; yet, the inherent mechanisms beholden to this growth have not been discovered. As the bacteria devour nutrients, they discharge corollary that can affect growth and impact ultimate cell population denseness. It is acknowledged that these metabolic processes charge a reduction in density of the fluid zone and the solute gradient about every cell. Along this planet, this fluctuation in density leads to an elasticity transfer of the expelled by products. The fluid motion enclosing the cells can be changed through the restricting of the movement to just diffusion because of the lack of activity and deposit in the low gravity space flight surroundings. From this biophysical representation, it was speculated that an increase in speed impacts the lag phase period and the final cell s denseness of suspended cultures of bacteria in a deviating way. This is because of the modifications obtained in the extra cellular fluid constitution. Contained in the paper are experiments of different accelerations that frequently sustained this hypothesis, culmination in foreseeable growth kinetics. Other experiments show plumes of fluid that are visible to the naked eye emerging from metabolizing bacterial cultures. If related fluid kinetics were discovered to come about on a microscopic level, it might inform us of how acceleration impacts bacterium growth kinetics. Introduction Most discoveries point to ... • 7. Examples Of Existentialism In Waiting For Godot The play Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett is famous for its cyclic storyline and non existing plot. In the lines, Beckett incorporates themes of existentialism and the loss of hope. Throughout the two acts of the play, the main protagonists, Vladimir and Estragon, spend their days waiting aimlessly for a mysterious figure named Godot. While central in the play, Godot never makes an appearance in any act, and merely exists as a name. While Pozzo and Lucky, two other characters make their appearance in each act of the play, the boy is perhaps the most mysterious and intriguing. The boy, whom appears towards the end of each act, exemplifies the never ending cycle of the search for hope that remains unfulfilled through the use of symbolism, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If hope does not exist, Vladimir and Estragon will never fulfill their desires. Throughout the boy s appearance, Vladimir continues to interrogate him, asking him several questions about the mysterious figure that is Godot. Asking the boy about Godot, Vladimir asks, What does he do, Mr. Godot? Do you hear me? (106), to which the boy merely replies as He does nothing, Sir (106). Thus, the futile nature of hope is depicted through Beckett s use of symbolism. As Godot symbolizes hope, and the boy stated that He (Godot) does nothing... (106), this hints the redundant existence of hope. Rather, it is merely something individuals rely on to keep living, as for the case of Vladimir and Estragon, who continuously wait for Godot. While they contemplate suicide many times throughout the book, it is their motivation and continuous strive to wait for Godot that keeps them living to the next day. While Godot has failed Vladimir and Estragon many times, failing to show up to the exact spot that they believed they would meet him, they keep on waiting. Their strive and motivation is depicted as Vladimir says, Tell him... Tell him you saw me and that... That you saw me. You re sure you saw me, you won t come and tell me to morrow that you never saw me! ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Examples Of Heroism In Antigone Acts of heroism can be displayed in many different ways. In the play, Antigone, written by Sophocles, the main character Antigone fought for what she believed in standing up against state law set by the King. The Mother from 4 Maccabees also showed strength and virtue by having to watch all of her seven sons be tortured and die right before her eyes. As being women in a society where they are viewed as less equal to men, characters, Antigone and the Mother from 4 Maccabees did not let male authoritarian rule get in the way of displaying valorous acts by sticking to their moral beliefs. Antigone s brother, Polyneices was declared to be a traitor, according to King Kreon, against his own country known as Thebes. For such actions King Kreon refused to let Polyneices have a proper burial and would kill anyone who tried to give him one, which outraged Antigone. Antigone could not let someone whose blood related to her not have a proper burial so she tries to get her sister, Ismene to help her. Ismene replies, We must remember, first, that we two are by nature women and not fit to fight with men; second, that we are ruled by others stronger than ourselves, and so must bow to this and even greater griefs (Sophocles lines 61 64). Antigone being as passionate as she is ignores her sister s fearfulness of the possible consequences and says to her, I shall bury him. To me it s fine to die performing such a deed. I ll lie there, dear to him, with my dear friend, when I ve performed this crime of piety; for I must please those down below a longer time than those up here, since I shall lie there always (Sophocles lines 72 76). Antigone prefers to be dead with her brother who she loves very much than to be alive and not have him have a proper burial. She believes that by committing such a crime it is pure and will be vindicated by the Gods. Since Antigone is a woman it puts all the more pressure on Kreon to stick to his orders because of the limitations of freedom set on Greek woman in the ancient world. Her rebellious actions are out of line with her place in society as being a woman, which disrupts the gender roles and Kings position over the people in the community. • 12. The Negative Impacts Of Violent Video Games The negative impacts that are associated with violent gaming are a growing list. These many negative effects could build up into a more serious situation, with all of the possible outcomes of these side effects mixing together it could quite possibly take a turn for the worse. The use of violent video games could cause players to participate in criminal violence, because of the increased levels of aggression and rage. NBC News reported of a gory incident in January of 2013, which involved Nehemiah Griego and his murderous actions toward his parents and three of his siblings in his home. The fifteen year old boy killed his family because he had been angry with his mother in the days before the murders. When questioned about his family, the boy was emotionless, but immediately after the investigators asked what his interests were, his face lit up and he immediately began reminiscing about his favorite video games, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and Grand Theft Auto (2013). Common sense media explains the game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, with a vivid description; a bloody military shooting game with disturbing cinematic moments (n.d.). Could Griego s avid gaming schedule, and love for the bloody first person shooting game be slightly related to his urge to kill (2013b)? • 14. Public Policy Concerning Education During Prisons Public policy concerning education in prisons decisively emphasizes punitive programming over rehabilitate or educational programming. In regards to higher education in prisons the persuasive public echo of why should criminals get for free what the rest of us pay for is a falsehood built on the backs of these rulings. I would argue that the education paid for through incarceration entails a greater personal cost of freedoms than a paid tuition could ever represent. I doubt anyone would ever go to prison to obtain a free education. The ever increasing costs of higher education invoke a regime of scarcity that produces anxiety within the working and middle class. Higher education no longer represents automatic future economic security, furthering social fear. I would argue against the elimination of higher education in prisons; research shows that prison education reduces recidivism rates and improves public safety (Chappell). Education behind bars means a greater likelihood of post release employment. Post release employment means stability and independence. Stability and independence mean a lower chance of recidivism. Criminal justice researchers Richard Tewksbury and Kenneth Stengel conclude a more abstract benefit of prison education than just reducing recidivism, Participation in educational programs yields a positive influence on the psychological well being of inmates, reduces rule infractions, and enrolled inmates serve as role models to other inmates ... • 16. There Is A Reason Why God Allows Evil In John Hick s piece There is a Reason Why God Allows Evil , he explains his view on the roots of evil. Hick brings up the problem of an all loving God that allows evil to occur in the world. The conclusion that arises God must not be all loving then. However, Hick explains that humans free will is the problem that leads to evil. A few strengths that Hick has in his argument is the laws of nature, he mentions that they ...would have to be extremely flexible; sometimes gravity would operate, sometimes not; sometimes an object would be hard and solid, sometimes soft. There could be no sciences, for there would be no enduring world structure to investigate (129). Nothing could hurt anyone or anything, and the world would be some perfect fairytale; ...life would become like a dream in which, delightfully but aimlessly, we would float and drift at ease (130). Hick goes on to explain that evil allows people to learn what is good, grace and faith. If evil doesn t exist, then how could one tell the difference from right or wrong? There would be no moral lessons to be taught or learned from since there is no wrong, and wrong an only be done when there is evil. Hick also mentions that bravery, courage and strength would have no point and meaning. Everything that builds character would not exist. The weakness in Hicks argument is that he is blaming free will for the ultimate cause of evil. There are obviously nature disasters that could be considered evil as well. Hick believes that ... • 17. Descartes and the Mind Essay The topic of the mind and how do we know has been around since the beginning of time. It is one of those questions that will most likely never be answered. I mean, the mind itself is so perplexing that we are still learning stuff about it daily. One question that Descartes proposed was how do we know? we still are pondering this one today. We ask it almost every day, maybe not in that way but in some form or another. So honestly, how do we know? Whenever Descartes started studying about the mind he denounced all of his previous opinions and started fresh. He first stated that knowledge is seen as a building in which all the superstructure is resting on a foundation, and the building is only as strong as its foundation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So he began to ponder on how to prove that he truly did exist. He finally came up with this: Thought exists; it alone cannot be separated from me. I am; I exist this is certain. But for how long? For as long as I am thinking; for perhaps it could also come to pass that if I were to cease all thinking I would then utterly cease to exist. At this time I admit nothing that is not necessarily true. I am therefore precisely nothing but a thinking thing; that is a mind, or intellect, or understanding, or reason words of whose meanings I was previously ignorant. Yet I am a true thing and am truly existing; but what kind of thing? I have said it already: a thinking thing (Meditation II 31). So in proving that he existed he also proved who he was or who we are. We are thinking things things that can function as long as we think, but the moment that we stop thinking is the moment that we no longer exist. So is that the moment we die? Or is it something entirely different? So through this he proved that anything that he cannot doubt then that is what he is. And whatever he can doubt, then he is not. He now had the knowledge of knowing about himself of who and what he was. But there was a problem with this, that even though one doubted something then it could still be true. One could doubt that he/she won a race even though they did win. Even though ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Norman invasion of 1066 was one of the causes for castles to become an important part of defence. After king Harold s defeat by William the conqueror, William was concerned about how he would control the country with only a limited number of troops facing a hostile environment. As time progressed, the situation in England changed. The Normans were now in control of England and there was little resistance from hostile sources, therefore a concentration on the development of castles occurred. Less time was needed for castles to be constructed quickly and therefore time could be used to search for better materials for building. This meant that stone could be used instead of wood, which was used previously. By 1100, the earth that had held Motte and bailey castles had now settles, and was capable of sustaining much larger weights. With the change to stone castles, fire was not a concern as it was when Motte and baileys were in use. Square keeps were used when the development of stone castles were quite young. They were often built in the most important places, to show how powerful the Normans were. Square keeps were good because of the immense thickness of the walls. The walls in square keeps were often up to 5 metres thick, and 30 metres high. This is worrying, as to deem all employees as responsible is a clear generalisation. They are sure to be several bad apples in any company, waiting to spill their company secrets to a competitor. Athenahealth s idea requires a high level of trust which is not possibly attainable in a world where white collar crime is rampant. Practices like these might lead to companies losing revenue as ideas are stolen by other companies. These branches are extremely textured, giving them almost a true bark like appearance. The leaves on the upper left corner of the piece look like they are almost protruding off of the rest of the image. The form of this image also adds to its components of formal analysis. Form is based on color, composition, texture and line. This image by Eager has all of these major elements. The composition is constructed with purpose, to show the flow and depth growing throughout the image. There are multiple lines in this art piece, the first can be seen through the top of the work, it goes through the tops of the trees and atop the mountain peaks. Then, there are implied lines, one can be seen between the mountain peaks coming towards the tree, or vice versa. Since a new test in and of itself is hard enough for teachers and students to learn how to do, the transition from TCAP to TN Ready should have been smooth from the get go, but it was not. The state should abolish TN Ready and move to the ACT Aspire for grades three through ten and the ACT for grade eleven. Using the ACT Aspire and the ACT can serve many purpose. The first and perhaps the biggest benefit of using the ACT Aspire and the ACT is that it can show not only how well students are performing state wide but also how well they are performing nationally. There is also more practice resources out for ACT whereas there is hardly any for educators or students to use for TN Ready. Finally using the ACT Aspire and the ACT would better prepare students for college admissions, because teachers would be able to focus instruction solely on an exam that is comparable to that of the ACT. Miller uses John Proctor, the protagonist of his novel, to show the unfairness of these trials. Proctor, while not perfect, was the most sane and righteous man in the town of Salem during the events of the novel, but he still was put in jail for a crime that Miller believed would be minor in the eyes of his audiences. Proctor committed adultery, but did not commit any crimes that would have been generous to Miller s audiences. Even for this slight crime Proctor was put to death by the judges of Salem. • 38. Essay on European and Native American Relations Beginning in the sixteenth century, Europeans made the voyage to a new world in order to achieve dreams of opportunity and riches. In this other world the Europeans came upon another people, which naturally led to a cultural exchange between different groups of people. Although we commonly refer to European and Indian relations as being between just two very different groups of people, it is important to recognize this is not entirely true. Although the settlers of the new world are singularly referred to as Europeans, each group of people came from a different nation and with different motives and expectations of the new world. Similarly, the Indians were neither a united group nor necessarily friendly with each other. Due to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While Verrazano speaks kindly of these courteous and generous groups, he also speaks of encounters with people he deems full of crudity and vices. He claims that interaction with these groups was difficult. He describes their attempts to trade with this group; they sent us what they wanted to give on a rope, continually shouting to us not to approach the land. This description provides us some insight into the feelings of the Indians towards these new European invaders. Their actions seem to be based on fear and apprehension towards these unknown men (Voices of Freedom, 9). Much of European criticism of Native American was based on differences in religion, land use, and gender relations. Most Europeans reasoned that Indians needed to be converted to the true religion of Christianity (Give Me Liberty, 11). In fact, Verrazano concluded that the Indians had no religion or laws (Voices of Freedom, 10). The Europeans did not understand the Indians use of the land and thus justified overtaking it, reasoning that they did not truly use it. Some Europeans criticized gender relations, claiming that women lacked freedom due to their work in the fields (Give me Liberty, 12 13). Others, like Verrazano, criticized the Indians for having absolute freedom in which they did not abide to any laws due to ignorance (Voices of Freedom, 10). Regardless of ... Under eminent domain, the government buys your property, paying you what s determined to be fair market value. In recent years, there has been much debate over the appropriateness of eminent domain, and further its legality in specific instances. The government is allowed to seize personal property for private use if they can prove that doing it will serve what s called the public good . There have been many cases brought up against the government in attempt to regulate the government s power in seizing private property. There is a political push for reform to the eminent ... In an area with older houses, many of these qualifications may not be met, which would in turn classify certain houses as blighted. This does not imply that the homeowners have failed to maintain there property properly, but infers that the area can be used for a higher and better use. Amongst topics of conversation regarding eminent domain, one will find regulatory usage of land, seizing of land for public use, and the most controversial of late, the seizing of land from a private owner and giving it to a more economically beneficial, often politically connected private owner. Kelo v New London (US 2005), has prompted dozens of proposals to reform eminent domain practices legislatively. Most of these proposals would restrict the use of eminent domain to transfer property from one private individual to another. It is one thing to have a city claim property to further the development of the city by building roads, schools, etc. It is another thing altogether for the government to seize a property so as to gain money from higher taxation. For many years, however, courts have read the public use restraint broadly, enabling governments to take property from one owner, often small and powerless, and transfer it to another, often large and politically connected, all in the name of economic development, urban renewal, or job creation. With the media s focus on cases like Kelo v New London, the public is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Avian Aspergillosis Avian Aspergillosis The subfamily Aspergillus has a wide range of fungi which can cause Avian Aspergillosis. Aspergillus Fumigatus is the most commonly diagnosed species of the fungus, others include flavus and niger. Aspergillus Fumigatus tends to thrive in moist and warm environments. Endotoxins are released through the dispersal of microscopic spores, which usually become airborne. This enables the disease to travel from one location to another and then proceed to grow, which creates areas that are more highly populated compared to others. In small minorities the fungus is less likely to have adverse consequences. Some factors concerning the environment that can increase the chances of a bird inhaling spores are poor ventilation and sanitation, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Acute Avian Aspergillus can create a loss of appetite and can cause severe difficulty when breathing. This can be seen by the bird showing signs of accelerated breathing, gasping and voice changes. An infected bird might also have abnormal excretion, a strong thirst with excessive urination or show signs of emaciation and central nervous system damage. This severe damage will be evident in an obvious lack of muscular coordination and mobility; the bird might also hold its head at an unnatural angles. Central nervous system damage will only occur if the fungal infection reaches the brain. The most common signs of Avian Aspergillosis are drooped wings and rapid opening and closing of the bird s bill. The fungus usually affects the respiratory region including the trachea, lungs and syrinx; the infection can however spread to the kidneys, brain, skin, and muscles. Since Aspergillus can be fatal, a lot of birds are diagnosed post mortem. The signs from an autopsy can include brain tissue death or meningoencephalitis; white nodules can also be evident. These small growths are evidently what cause erosion through the tissue, enabling a vast amount of conidia to enter the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The reason for this feud is not introduced but the disastrous violence , riot , quarrels , and blood shedding resulting from this rivalry is described. The supernatural shows that Ronald DeFeo Jr. may not have been fully guilty, and without the supernatural side drawing Jackie Barrett to DeFeo, the truth might never have been released. Even though some do not believe in the supernatural aspects, the rest of the story is interesting and compelling.
