Improving Quality And Safety For Patient Safety
The Role of the Leader in Evaluating Data to Improve Quality and Safety
Patient safety is a growing concern among healthcare professionals and the public (Goh, Chan,
Kuziemsky, 2013). As professional nurses, it is our duty to demonstrate improved safety for our
patients, visitors and guests to the facilities in which we serve. It is also our duty to prevent
adverse events and to view unfortunate incidents as learning opportunities to achieve a holistic
view of patient care. By improving patient safety, we accept responsibility for more positive patient
outcomes and a successful hospital stay. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the importance of
data evaluation and interpretation to improve patient quality and safety.

In reviewing the data set provided for this study, a large number of falls occurred between the
hours of 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. This is the time that a phlebotomist typically enters the room for a
morning blood draw or the nurse wakes the patient for a vital sign check. The patients are still in a
daze, and it is possible after the clinical personnel leaves, the patient tries to climb out of bed
unattended, resulting in a fall (Stempniak, 2015). Lee (2015), states You disturb them, wake them
up and they re groggy; then they try to get up and go to the restroom by themselves. They
overestimate their ability to function and walk, resulting in a fall (Stempniak, 2015).
In addition to the falls data, the Walden University case study (2015) reported One full time
employee (FTE) of nursing assistants was moved from the night shift to the evening shift (Data
Dashboard, 2015). This change in staff may contribute to the increased falls seen during the
overnight hours. An extra nursing assistant would be helpful as a variable rounder, someone to
help the nurses and other nursing assistants respond quickly if a patient s call bell is ringing or the
patient is in distress.
Our report shows an increase in fall risks from 7 am to 11 am daily. This time coincides with
patient care, where nursing staff may be attending to one individual patient, often

An Reflection Of Autobiography Of The Philosophy Course
Autobiography of our encounters and engagements with the philosophy course.
In this introduction to philosophy course, when i taken the course what i was though that about the
philosophy was that is related to Individual s ways. How to examining every situation happening

Long Day Landing Essay
Correlation Between Lower Extremity Biomechanics and Hip Drop During Single Leg Landing
Post ACLR
Purpose/Hypothesis: Incidence of second ACL Injury after ACL reconstruction is 17 times higher
than healthy uninjured peer athletes. There is high interest in understanding and correcting LE
mechanics during single leg landings as the majority of injuries occur during single leg tasks.
Strengthening and motor control of the proximal hip musculature has been emphasized to improve
pelvic stability and reduce injury risk. Alternatively, decreased load acceptance at the kneemay
contribute to excessive hip drop during landing. Those with ACLR consistently demonstrate
quadriceps weakness and reduced knee extensor moment during landing. Our aim is to ... Show

The isometric strength of the quadriceps was significantly different side to side (INV QUAD =
2.72 В± 0.77, UNINV QUAD = 3.07 В± 0.78, quad LSI = 89% В± 14%). The hip drop of the two
limbs were weakly related to one another (r= 0.237, p = 0.026), the involved limb demonstrated
more hip drop than the uninvolved (INV HIP ADD =14.55 В± 5.05, UNINV HIP ADD = 11.00 В±
5.31). Quadriceps strength symmetry and normalized max knee extensor moment were inversely
related to hip drop with a stronger relationship on the surgical limb (INV: QUAD MVIC r = .341 p
= .001, KNEE MOM: r = .425 p .001 (n=88), UNINV: QUAD MVIC r = 0.278 p = .009, KNEE
MOM: r = .294 p = .005).
Conclusions: There is a significant correlation between sagittal plane knee and frontal plane hip
moment during SLL in both limbs. Increased quadriceps strength and increased knee moment was
associated with less hip drop during landing. Moreover, the quadriceps strength asymmetry in this
population further amplified this relationship on the surgical side. The increased hip drop indicates
that the participants involved side was not fully recovered post surgery. Limitations: As a
prospective study, it is possible the participants had deficits prior to

Free Community College Should Be Free
Free is a word with a powerful appeal. And right now it s being tossed around a lot, followed by
another word: college. (Kamenetz). The debate surrounding free community college for all is
becoming rather controversial. Since there has been no law set in place federally some states are
taking aim. Washington has a scholarship program called Washington Promise that supports what
this act is all for. As the world continues to flatten, it seems the only way to compete in the
globalized economy is by higher education. Even though the funding is large, the first two years of
community collegeshould be free to all. The Washington Promise, a scholarship program in place to
provide scholarships to high schoolseniors who graduate from a Washington high school, is a way
to help students in the Yakima Valley attend college and graduate with an A.A degree which helps
stress the importance of liberal arts, and help decrease what Thomas Freidman, the author of The
World is Flat, calls the education gap at the bottom.
Although I believe the first two years of community college should be free to all; many people
would disagree. One of the biggest controversies surrounding the issue of free community college
is the enormous cost it comes with and how it will be funded. According to Emily Deruy, the
author of the article The Debate over Free Community College, The chances of community colleges
nationwide becoming free are slim. The White House has said it would cost the federal

Summary Of Let The Celebrating Begin
Let the celebrating begin. This book is about a wonderful girl who briefly shared her life with us
and was always ready to take chances. A girl who valued friendships, relationships, and thought
both should be fun and lasting. While she was attending school at Lipscomb University she fell
in love. Not the love she expected, the man that would win her love, but instead her heart was in
missions. She may not have fully realized that yet but her friends observed it. Here are two of
the last posts she made to Facebook. Her mind was completely focused on missions. This first
post is her looking back on the mission to Australia. She went there twice while she was in school
at Lipscomb. The second post is her look forward to her upcoming... Show more content on

far better things ahead than any we leave behind. and this is how Anastasia must have viewed
this journey. Going on the World Race was the next big adventure before she chained herself to
work and adulthood after successfully completing college. It was the next big challenge. She
briefly flirted with a couple of other ideas, joining the military or becoming a flight attendant.
However, her biggest adventure was yet to come. Finding out what plans God had for her life

`` The Lottery `` By Shirley Jackson
According to Philip Zimbardo the author of The Lucifer Effect: Understanding How Good People
Turn Evil, he says Good people can be induced, seduced, and initiated into behaving in evil ways.
They can also be led to act in irrational, stupid, self destructive, antisocial, and mindless ways when
they are immersed in total situations that impact human nature in ways that challenge our sense of
the stability and consistency of individual personality, of character, and of morality (Philip). In the
short storyThe Lottery, author Shirley Jacksondemonstrates Zimbardo s concepts in three different
areas: Authority figures, Tradition and Superstition, and Loyalty.
The first concept Jackson portrays in The Lottery is the authority figures. Jackson indicates that the
lottery is being held in the town center by one authority figure, Mr. Summers, annually on June
27th. Every June 27th, without fail, townspeople gather in the town square to participate in the
annually lottery even though most of them cannot recall nor question the origin of this event, and
none bother to question if it is conducted fairly. Mr. Summers not only conducts the lottery as
keeper of the black box, where he makes up the name slips, but is also the only authority figure
who marks a black spot on the name slip that sends a person to death by stone. Jackson never
discusses how Mr. Summers obtained such power over the town; but everyone in town
unquestioningly complies with Mr. Summers s orders. In

Advantages Of The Maghrib
The modernization of the Maghrib was not beneficial to the culture and modernization of North
Africa. Although there were benefits relating to the architectural upgrades and the spread of ideas
about politics and the modern world, the forcing of the French culture, division between religions,
and the external French motivations were overall not beneficial. The Maghrib is a section of North
Africathat includes Morocco, Algeria, Tunisiaand sometimes parts of Libya. Specifically, Algeria
was very important to this region as well as the French who tried to colonize and modernize this
region. Along with Tunisia, whose impacts from the French are shown through the travels and
experiences of Khayr al Din. Ever since the beginning of the French colonization efforts, the natives
of the Maghrib were weary of the concept. The French true motivations are evidenced through their
new implementation of laws, cultural integration, and disregard for the religious groups of the
region.
Originally, the Maghrib architecture was distinctly North African, simple in design, and including
ornate mosques. Fez is a grand example of the architecture region and all that it has to offer. The
mallah section of Fez involves a lot of traditional North African architecture along with Jewish
cultural influences. Although the architecture in this region was stunningly beautiful, when the
French came in they upgraded a lot of buildings and public areas. Consequently, the region has a
gorgeous mix of French colonial and native architecture. A great example of this resides in a town
square where there is a mosque in the center and beautiful French colonial architecture surrounding
the rest of the square in Algeria. The French influenced architecture as small as the lamp posts and
as big as the grand, efficient highways. Due to this, the roadways and general design and
architecture of the region was an incredible blend of ancient North African and modern French
architecture.
The French did not try to fully push their ideas upon the natives of the Maghrib, but instead brought
their ideas with them and let the ideas assimilate with the natives to the degree the natives allowed
it to. As stated in the Colonial Mythologies article, the idea was

My First Love Essay
Everyone loves to tell the story of their first love, and the beautiful lesson they learned through
the adventure. You hear the phrase, you ll never forget your first as you see a small smirk
flourish across the faces of people who remember their story. Through all the experiences shared, I
never would have believed the result of falling out of love. All of the novels and sweet smiles never
hinted about the time I would end up crumbled down on my bedroom s floor, with two years of a
person s presence surrounding a broken heart. Nobody will speak of watching your first love leave
for college, knowing that they will want to move on. I went through the stages of heartbreak
that left me with a cracked and bruised heart. The recovery and journey of finding acceptance
and love for myself, created a book of my personal lessons. Going back to that summer is like
reading the final book of your favorite series, you soak in the words trying to read slow, savoring.
Completing the series leaves a bitter sweet moment, comparing to the emotions that overcame my
mind through the process of watching him go. However, it was not beautiful and bittersweet as
romance novels paint your first love out to be. Each page in our novel transformed from love to a
war zone, as loyalty became nonexistent, and trust only present in waves. The summer was
beautiful, but in my heart I knew that this novel was only a fairy tale coming to it s end. There was
nothing left to be painted. That hot and humid

Social And Social Order In Ancient Roman Society
Social Order: In Roman culture, the society was based on heredity, property, wealth, citizenship
and freedom. Roman society was also patriarchal, where it heavily focused more on the men
than women. Women were expected to produce male heirs and look after the cleaning and
maintenance of the houses they lived in, other than that, they had less independence than men
did. Your status in the world is very important. There were different class ranks which
represented a certain group of people. These classes often interacted with each other. These
classes include Slaves, Freemen, Soldiers, Equestrians, Senators, the Nobility, and the Emperor.
These class systems were heavily enforced under the law. The laws even governed what each
class wore for clothing. For example, the Emperor was the only one allowed to wear a purple
toga. Senators were allowed to wear a white toga with a broad purple stripe along the edge, and
horse riders wore togas with a narrow purple stripe. In Roman society, there was also a system of
patronage. Members of the upper class would offer protection and freedom to freedmen and
plebeians, the working class, if they became their cliens , also known as clients. Freed slaves often
became cliens to their former owners. Patronage can include money, food, or legal help. In return,
the upper classmen gained respect and political favors. Roman generals who conquered lands
became the patron to the people of that land. Roman cities and

Women s Roles In The 1940s
Throughout the 1940 s women s roles and expectations in society were changing at an immense
speed and with very little say in society and were stereotyped to stay home, make children, raise
them at home and be a good home maker and wife all in one. In 1942, women were finally
allowed to enter the army or navy which was named as The Women s Army Corps. Women were
accepted for volunteer Emergency Services such as in hospitals and got paid or were deployed
off with other men leaving their families behind. After these organizations were established,
congress authorized women to serve in the U.S. Navy., U.S Airforce and Army. Several females

America s Illegal Immigration Reform
There are few topics in America as controversial as illegal immigration. With the standards of
living for the lower class workers in Mexico as poor as they are, hundreds of men, women and
children cross America s southern border illegally every year in search of better opportunities for
themselves and their offspring. As the 2016 presidential election has illustrated, America is very
split on the issue. Republican nominee Donald Trump has stated that if elected president he will
build a massive wall along America s southern border, and that illegal immigrants will be deported
en masse. Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, has stated that she will lead
immigrationreform if elected. While America has not yet decided who will... Show more content on

Heidy Sarabia, in her paper titled Perpetual Illegality: Results of Border Enforcement and
Policies for Mexican Undocumented Migrants in the United States, argues that heightened border
security and legalization restrictions created America s illegal immigration problem in the first
place. For example, she states that The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA)
created mixed status families by only allowing illegal immigrants who had lived in the United
States throughout the entirety of 1982 1987 to alter their legal status (Sarabia). She goes on to
explain that These mixed status families are one of the most important elements that pull
migrants to return to the United States... , and that any attempt to reform immigration that does
not address this problem will only serve to create more mixed status families (Sarabia).
Additionally, Sarabia explains that illegal immigrants in the United States are settling for longer
periods of time than they have in the past for two reasons: First, leaving the United States
decreases their opportunities for adjusting their legal status, and second, the intensification of
border enforcement has made it more difficult and expensive to return to the United States . So,
in order to be with their families, Sarabia argues, and because of the dangers and expense now
associated with illegally crossing the border, many undocumented immigrants choose to stay in
America as long as they can since obtaining a visa and visiting legally is not an option for many.
Sarabia offers an example in the form of Sandra, a Mexican citizen who at the time was trying to
enter America to see her sick sister. She attempted to get a visa, but was turned down as many are
(Sarabi). Presented with no other options she had little choice but to attempt to cross the border
illegally (Sarabia). During the attempt her husband and

Pilates And Osteoporosis Case Study
Osteoporosis is a bone disease that occurs when the body loses too much bone, makes too little
bone, or both. As a result, bones become weak and may break from a fall or, in serious cases, from
sneezing or minor bumps (nof.org). This skeletal disease is characterized by the increase in the
fragility of bones as a result of reduced bonemass density and the deformation of the structure of
bone tissue (Angin,Erden,Can, 849). Many patients with osteoporosisare instructed by their doctor
to exercise; as this will improve their rehabilitation of this disease and lessen the pain associated
with it. In this study, researchers wanted to examine the effects of Clinical Pilates Exercises on
bone mineral density, physical performance, and quality of life in postmenopausal osteoporosis
patients. In order to determine a correlation between Pilates and osteoporosis improvement, forty

The Simpsons is not just another animated television show, it is the animated television show.
Never has a North American cartoon had such an impact on daily living then The Simpsons. The
Simpsons is now credited as the longest runnning american show, with 384 episodes forming
eighteen seasons. It s longvity has not gone unnoticed either. The Simpsons has won many awards
and had this year received its 9th Emmy Award for best animated program. Aside from their
successes The Simpsons as an icon can be analyzed with semiotics. They are symbolic, expressive,
and represent many different ideologies. The Simpsons are a yellow skinned family with 3
children, a dog, a cat, and 2 cars. They are a middle class family living in a small town,
Springfield. They represent the average middle class american family with each character in the
show representing another symbol separately. They take from real life, put a twist on the details
and then feed it back to the people so that they seem to mock and mimic the American Dream at the

Summary Of Night By Elie Wiesel

Essay on Night Have you ever had to make an instant decision that would significantly impact your
life?
I certainly had to make some quick decisions and I m sure you as well had to make some impactful
choices. This is exactly what Elie Wiesel was forced to do when it came down to a life or death
situation. There are 3 decisions that I had come across that I thought would be important if I was
in Elie s position to make a sacrificial or crucial decisions that would determine the outcome of
your life or others. One of them is lying about ages. Another is Escaping or staying in camp. The
last one is making a wise choice to eat. Let s begin with the ages.
One of the decisions Elie had to make was when an inmate was yelling at Elie asking how old he
was. The inmate was telling Elie and his father to lie about their ages to the officers so that they
would not be killed. Elie, 15 and Shlomo, 50 had to lie about their ages by saying they were 18 and
40 so that they would be able to stay in the camps and not be sent to the crematorium. Elie had to
make a fast decision that would be life or death and they chose the right thing to do by listening to
the inmate. For all we know, the inmate could ve been setting them up! Was that a wise choice for
them to do? Next, we have the Escape.
Another decision Elie had to make was when he said I had made up my mind to accompany my
father wherever he went (Wiesel 82). I feel that this is one of

after World War 2 with foreshadows of the world s technological future, and imitates the novel

faultless because it directs the future toward an imprisoned world through technology as today,

The Problem Of Deaf Culture
Deaf culture is a way to start this essay. Most people, when they think of deafness, assume that it
is nothing more than a disability. This is erroneous because defining what deaf really means,
means looking past the definition and looking into the heart of a deaf person, to see equality
among us all. Equality among humans isn t controversial, but what is? Cochlear Implantation is
controversial. Inserting an internal disruption of the deaf culture is controversial. Placing an
electronic device in your children s ears because you want them to talk like a normal child is
controversial. After having a very rigorous debate about CI s in my ASL class, I came to the
conclusion that out of 30 students, more than half of them would choose implantation of their
young fragile, pure child. Being deaf is way more than just being able to hear, being deaf is a
gift; a family within a family, and implanting a child a child under your circumstances only shreds
the wrapping paper off that gift. Lets jump right into the positive facts of cochlear implants,
because there isn t many. in a very descriptive and informational article by Ron Kotulak, he
mentions that, The implant significantly improve the hearing of adults in conjunction with speech
reading. Benefits have also been observed in children as young as two. So, it is an unbiased fact
that, in some cases, Cochlear Implantation is highly effective and serves as a great purpose for the
treatment of hearing loss. The FDA, Food and

Empathy In The Rattler
When in times of danger, people must often take the actions they see best fit. In The Rattler, the
author depicts a vivid story of a man who has to make a difficult choice while facing a rattlesnake
in the desert. Despite the man seeing a threat in the snake, it is him that becomes a threat to the
other. By using the descriptions of the man, the snake and the specific setting, the author affects the
readerby creating a sense of empathyfor the narrator and sympathy for the snake. With such a
connection, it adds a greater depth to the story for the reader to analyze.
To begin with, the sense of empathy for the man is formed by including his point of view and a
description of his character. One of the first examples of these techniques is when he finds the
snake and states, My first instinct was to let him go his way. From this thought the reader can
tell that the man has no inclination of killing the snake at first and did not see him as any sort of
immediate threat. With the author s decision to write the passage in the first person perspective
of the man it has a crucial impact of skewing details to reflect off of his perceptions, allowing for
a better insight on the character. Another example that helps the readers empathize with the man is
when he reveals his views on a potential killing by mentioning, I have never killed an animal I was
not obliged to kill. Although all that the man says is that he will only kill an animal if necessary, by
choosing to inform the

Nanjing was taken over by the Chinese communist force on 23 April, 1949, soon after the peace
negotiation between the Guomingdang (GMD) and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) was
proved impossible. As early as in January of the same year, the talk for possible truce had begun
between the two sides. Yet apparently, the two sides were expecting different things. While the
Nanjing government was still struggling with its own control areas and problems of fractional
politics, crossing the Yangze River and taking over the southern Chinawere only the issue of time
for Mao Zedong. As the Nationalist representatives that remained in Nanjing failed to accept the
ultimatum on 20 April of the proposed peace conditions, the People s Liberation Army (PLA)...

It has become disenfranchised with the Nationalist rule since 1949. Indeed, its historical status as
the capital of China s first republican regime has been depoliticized. On one hand, the disassociation
is achieved through a nationalization of the Nationalist s governmental buildings. By renaming and
privatizing the physical marks of Nanjing s link with the politically incorrect past for the Party s
bureaucrat and administrative use, the symbol of potential political rebellion is eliminated. On the
other, the depoliticization is possible through the mass consumption of the Republican past and
thereby making the past exotic and irretrievable. This is exemplified in the renovation of the
Republican buildings as the Nanjing 1912, one of the most popular tourist sites in Nanjing, located
next to the Presidential Palace, which is also commercialized as a major tourist spot. Named after
the first year of the ROC s establishment in 1912, this commercial district which houses bars, fancy

epitome of the demolition of incorrect political memories by the CCP authorities against the
backdrop of China s growing market oriented economy. The liberation of Nanjing, therefore, is seen

Morte D Arthur Code Of Chivalry
A Knight s Honor:
An Analysis of Chivalry Throughout history, people of certain cultures base their lives off special
rules, or codes. The Anglo Saxons took examples from the epic hero of Beowulf. Knights during
King Arthur s rule lasted by the code of Chivalry. Lessons from this honorable code can be
extracted from the text of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, as well as from Morte D Arthur. Each
of these memorable pieces of literature show examples of the code of chivalry. The three aspects
of chivalry are courage, honor, and self control. To begin, the first form of chivalry can be clearly
found in both texts and portrays courage. Kings would knight men in return for their promise of
courage, honor and respect from the generous man. Courage is first found in The Green Night
when an audacious man named Gawain steps in to accept the challenge demonstrated from the
Green Knight himself. Toward the king doth now incline: I beseech, before all here, That this
melee may be mine. Gawain demonstrates chivalry by displaying the courage to accept a fatal
challenge. Heroism is also presented in the text of Morte D Arthur. This scrap of literature tells
about the closing moments of the glorious King Arthur. Even in his deathly state, Arthur shows the
quality of bravery by battling for his kingdom after the brutal battle that left all but four men dead.
Now, tide me death, tide me life, ... now I see him yonder alone, he shall never escape mine hands.

South And Central Afric An Undeveloped Continent
Nowadays, Africa is considered to be an undeveloped continent. Out of all the reasons Africa
grew out to be this way. In this period, there were many different types of currency in Africa;
unlike in other parts of the world where one type of currency was more used than others. For this
study have chosen four different types of currency, which are cloth, cowries, gold and slaves. We
will see how their nature influenced the economy of precolonial Africa. The conclusion reached is
that the nature of the currencies had a great impact in the underdevelopment, their nature being
especially relevant when the external trade started, because of the contrast between hard currencies
with the African currencies, provoking the latter to become soft... Show more content on

There are difficulties in the study of this topic. The first one is the view of the historiography.
Many economist and historians have considered Africa to be underdeveloped even before the
colonialism period, which recent studies have proved to be wrong. Africa had a well developed
economic system, where the monetization of the economy had created a class society . There
needs to be more investigation about this topic, which hopefully will bring some light to this
interesting period in time. Secondly, the lack of primary sources is another obstacle to the study
of this topic, many of the ones available are biased because they are from a European perspective.
However, it is possible to find other material in archaeology, documents and oral stories. Thirdly,
the continent of Africa is huge, and in its study, we should try to avoid generalizations, because it
erases the particularities of each territory. Therefore, as said, we are going to focus on West and
Central Africa, so the study will be more focused and specific.
There were many different types of currency in precolonial Africa. Among them the most used
ones were cowries, copper, cloth, slaves, gold, silver and salt. Different areas preferred different
kinds of currency, however, their value was recognized in all West Africa. The multiplicity of
currency indicates a lack of centralization, as well as many connections between zones. One

State Judicial Structures
Assessing the Impact of State Judicial Structures on Citizens Litigiousness by Jeff Yates, Holley
Tankersley, and Paul Brace describes the structure of the state judicial courts with its dependence on
certain internal and external principles that will influence the overall participation of individual s
litigation cases. The authors main question explores the role that state legal institutions played in
explaining state variation in legal mobilization. (Yates, Tankersley, Brace, 2010, 796) The authors
postulate this question because they believe that differences in the elemental structure of the
judicial system affect the degree to which citizens involve the legal system for redress. (796) The
authors further elaborated on their question... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When I usually think of the court, I usually think of it as a level headed branch that is unbiased
and can answer my question, my problems, and societal issues with any personal views. This
view of mine is broken with many facets influencing courts. Judicial selection and judicial
professionalism are key concepts that broke my previous views and towards a better
understanding the current process to litigations. I find it rather eye opening that if a judge were to
run either as a partisan or a nonpartisan judge that he or she will receive almost the same amount of
attention on them. In the other statements, I found myself reasonably agreeing with most of them.
Elected judges similar to elected politicians will try to hold their bastion of support by honoring
their voter intention and vote subtly along partisan lines as a form of certainty. In contrast,
appointed judges bring more uncertainty and more chances of change in society given their lack of
an ideological background. Judicial professionalism as stated previously make sense that their legal
background make a prominent stance in a courtroom with them making fewer decisive legal
rulings, having a robust legal team, and being paid a higher salary. In state political environment, it

Despite being one of the biggest industries in the United States, indeed the World, the internal

The Hollywood Studio System: A History is the first book to describe and analyse the complete
development, classic operation, and reinvention of the global corporate entities which produce and

The following essay will examine how these changes took place, and what impact it had on the film
making industry in America. We shall also examine how the system relates to the current
production methods used in film making. The main issues raised within the text will be
summarised concisely within the conclusion. Before a film reaches the cinema screen, and its
audience it must go through a three stage process. Firstly and most obviously it has to be
produced, following this it must then be distributed, and finally exhibited. Before the introduction
of the studio system in the 1920s all of these processes were controlled separately. Although this
gave the makers of films, such as directors and producers, room to express their creativity it
placed a heavy constraint upon the amount of movies that could be made, and financial profits.
However, despite Hollywood s uneasy birth, by the 1920s it had become one of the worlds leading
film producers (Dirks, 2002). This was largely due to the introduction of the producer, or studio

Philips, The Largest European Light Bulb Producers
In Holland, Gerard Philips started a light bulb factory with his father in 1892. Later, Gerard s
brother, Anton, joined them adding his experience in sales and management. The Philips family run
business eventually grew to be one of the largest European light bulb producers. In Japan, 23 year
old Konosuke Matsushita started producing double ended sockets in 1918. Matsushita quickly
expanded his company by adding new products. By the company s 40th year they had over 5,000
different products and owned 40% of the Japanese appliance stores. How did Philips become the
leading consumer electronics company in the world in the postwar era? What distinctive
competence did they build? What distinctive incompetencies? When Philips was founded in 1892,
their strategy was to focus strictly on producing and selling light bulbs. By investing in new
production technology to manufacture their light bulbs, Philips became a leader in industrial
research. Research in Gerard Philips opinion was vital to implementing new procedures, innovation,
and improving production. At this time, Philips was using the home replication strategy. This
strategy is used when a company does not see any reason to adjust their domestic strategy as they
enter international markets. Around 1918, Philips began expanding its product line which made it
more difficult to implement the home replication strategy. During the late 1930s, when the war was

Relationship Between Indentured Servants And Slaves
The typical colonial planter s views were inconsistent due to the exploited non white races within
the vast majority of indentured servants and the economic manipulation of the British government.
Indentured servants and slaves were overworked by their masters because exploitive colonial
planters and plantation owners pushed them to the degree that they eventually died at a very early.
When indentured non white servants migrated to Virginia in the seventeenth century, they were
immediately put to work because masters sought to gain wealth as soon as possible and lead forty
percent of these servants to die before their four year term was finished (Jovanovich, 1984).

Old Men Comparison
No Country for Old Men Novel and Film comparison.
In this particular essay, that I am doing for the extra credit, I will be comparing the famous novel
No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy, 2005 and the correlating film No Country for Old
Men , directed by Joel Ethan Coen, 2007. I will discuss the similarities and the differences of the
film and the book, blending the difference of genres and leveling the field, allowing to compare.
Staring off, I would like to mention the fact that a comparison of the book and the film is a
difficult thing to do, as these genres are very different in their nature.
Let s start with the novel: as a lot of Cormac McCarthy s novels this one is a stylized gothic
Western , its intense and both depressing, emotional and fascinating to read with its vivid imagery
and gripping plot. McCarthy s blood soaked Mexican border, hitmen, gangs, drugs, the rotten aspect
of the government, sociopathic murderers, etc. Lack of punctuation, for me personally, was a
lackluster part of the whole novel. The whole action sequence can be described as chronological,

continue to the next step. If there are no signs of life, place a breathing barrier (if available) over

Mia Ham In Soccer
There have been many influential women in the history of soccer. For example, Abby Wambach,
Mia Hamm, and Alex Morgan are just some of the many influential female soccer players.
Through all of them, Mia Hamm stands out the most. Mia Hamm is influential because she was
the founder of a bone marrow research foundation, she wrote a kids book to encourage them not
to quit even if they don t win, and she is an inspiration to girls who want to play soccer or any
other sports. First, she was the founder the Mia Hamm Foundation (a bone marrow research

Winners Never Quit! / Mia Hamm (Book) says The world s top goal scorer and three time
Olympian offers a soccer tale, putatively autobiographical, about a little girl whose tendency to
stomp off the field when frustrated prompts her teammates to teach her a lesson. The text
perfectly reflects a competitive child s rage when things don t go as desired. The book could be
an influence to kids to show them the importance of having good sportsmanship and not being
too hard on yourself when you don t win. Next, it says Mia learns quickly that there will be
times when she will score a goal and those when she will not, but playing the game is the most
fun of all. This quote supports that her book is one of the reasons she is influential because it
comes from her point of view so it s easy for kids who have had the same attitude when they don
t win to relate to. Last, Winners Never Quit! says, Mia Hamm, American soccer champion and
best selling author of Go for the Goal, tells a true life inspired story of learning that winning and
losing aren t as important as being part of a team. When kids (or really anyone) reads this, they
could learn the lesson that Mia learns, winning is not as important as being part of a team. Mia

Ambition in Hamlet by Williams Shakespeare
The dictionary defines personal ambition as An earnest desire for some type of achievement or
distinction, as power, honour, fame, or wealth and the willingness to strive for its attainment .
(Dictionary.com) One could argue that too much ambition can be a negative trait. By placing such
an emphasis on personal ambition it causes some to push their loved ones away in order to achieve
what they want. Within most people, unhappiness is a common feeling and in extreme results, it
leads to death. In the texts Fifth Business by Robertson Daviesand William Shakespeares Hamlet, it
is evident when the strongest characters place power and ambition above all else they crumble.

Gertrude:
QUEEN. O Hamlet, speak no more:

Hamlet is overflowing with the power he placed on his ambition to succeed in seeking his
revenge that he pushed two characters that would have done anything for him far away. As well
for the character Boy in Fifth Business, he too pushes away someone who really cares about
him. Coincidentally, as Hamlet pushes away females, Boy distant himself from his first wife,
Leola. He would beat her and yell at her all the time because he was so cooped up in his own
mind. A severe incident which takes place between Boy and Leola is when Boy gives Dunny a

favour, but when Dunny realizes that those reels contain naked pictures of Leola, it embarrasses

Black Legged Tick Research Paper
Species Profile of the Black Legged Tick (Ixodes scapularis)
Introduction One of the more common pests located in the Northeastern United States is the Black
Legged Tick (Ixodes scapularis). More commonly known as the Deer Tick this animal primarily
inhabits wooded areas populated by warm blooded wildlife. Specifically the temperate Pine Barrens
in Southern New Jersey, which hosts the 2nd largest tickpopulation in the country (CDC, 2010),
the black legged tick is a common pest that spreads lyme disease. This disease is a bacterial
infection caused by the tick latching onto a host and feeding for an extended period of time. These
ticks attach to most warm blooded woodland creatures and any human beings unfortunate enough to
get close enough. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(CDC, 2015) Female ticks will die in the spring when her eggs burst from her body. These eggs
will litter the forest floor and eventually hatch into 6 legged larvae in the summer. These larva
then attach to much smaller mammals, such as field mice or small birds. Ticks spend as long as
it takes, usually a few days at most, finding the perfect spot to latch on and begin feeding. The
larva feed for a few days or until they are full and eventually drop off the host. With their appetite
sated, larval ticks will now prepare for their next stage of life. This occurs over the course of the
fall and winter time period as ticks burrow underground to retain warmth. They emerge in the
spring, this time as 8 legged nymphs and the feeding cycle begins anew. This is also the period
where lyme disease becomes an issue. While feeding on smaller animals, ticks contract the
disease and they become carriers. They will transmit the disease as nymphs. Like the larvae, a
nymph attaches to a larger mammal ranging from squirrels to human beings. Over the course of
a few days, the nymph finds a spot to attach and feed. This happens over Spring and Summer. If
they wait too long, the nymph will die of starvation. When sated once again, the nymph falls to
the forest floor and prepares one more to proceed to the next stage of life. By Autumn, nymphs
will have grown into adults. This is one of the more important stages simply because
reproduction can now occur. Females will find a host in order to feed. Males find a host and a
suitable mate. The male, once a mate is found, will fertilize as many females as it possibly can
before dying. The females will continue to feed until they are full and eventually drop off. Once
she is ready to lay eggs in the spring, her body will burst and the eggs distribute along the forest
floor as the cycle begins

Essay On Identity
Identity not only helped me define who I am, but the concept of identity helped me construct my
perception of myself. Confidence is a trait I sometimes lacked throughout my lifetime.
Confidence is hard to acquire living in such a competitive, evolving world. Everything in life is
a competition. My grades, personality, and confidence all contribute to who I am. Personally,
for me, it is hard to feel comfortable in every social setting. I tend to be shy and nervous when I
am around new people; however, a time in my life I feel most comfortable is now! I am a transfer

Fairfield, especially physical appearance, which I found ridiculous. People were very judgmental
and unwelcoming. The environment around me affected my self confidence significantly, in a
negative way. Therefore, I felt trapped and alone. I almost felt like I was suffocating and there
was no way to escape this horrifying nightmare. One specific example I had at Fairfield
University contributed to my self esteem immensely. The friend group I made decided not to be
friends with me anymore because my ex boyfriends new girlfriend did not like my presence
when I was around. Basically, she made my life a living hell, and my so called best friends did
not even look me in the face when I walked by. That is when I knew it was time for a major
change in my life. After this experience I learned a lot about myself. For example, I was
discouraged by this particular situation; however, this experience made me realize how strong and
independent I am. Attending Fairfield University was not a mistake, it was a life lesson that made
me learn new qualities about myself, and helped shape not only my identity, but my life into

The juxtaposition of the society in Anthem with today s society is surprisingly terrifying. The
dystopian society in Anthem promotes the ideology of collectivism and the oppression of
individualism with resemblance to how aspects of those ideas are portrayed in our society. Anthem
primarily focuses on a controlled society, yet our society focuses on the competition of prosperity
amongst the population. Using Ayn Rands satiristic writing elements, the events in Anthem depict a
correlation to today s society, confirming Rand s warnings to the ignorant public. An important
aspect of this novel is the description of how the children are awarded a vocation. Equality 7 2521

Lolita Analysis
Vladimir Nabokov s novel Lolita was first published in France 1955, after being rejected by four
publishers whom feared they would be incarcerated. However, it s understandable why the story
of a young pubescent girl, being groomed by her paedophilic step father and then engaging in a
sexual relationship whilst embarking on a journey across America, didn t sit well with many
people, therefore was then banned from 1956 1959, for its obscenity and pornographic content in
France, United Kingdom, Argentina, South Africa, USA and New Zealand. The book has also
been described as highbrow pornography and absolutely disgusting . But why is the book deemed
so obscene and disgusting?
Instead of using the book as a moral compass and convicting and condemning the deep rooted
corruption that lurks within Humbert Humbert as a paedophile, the reader is assaulted and
softened by the power of appeal . In other words, the reader is strangely and obscenely seduced to
identify and indulge in their own desires, but by no means specifically perversion, to then cloud
the reader s judgement of whether Humbert is guilty or not. Surely for the reader to then condemn
him, they would be condemning themselves too? Nabokov himself states that I[he] is neither a
writer or a reader of didactic fiction. Lolita has no moral tow... fiction affords me to enter...

narrator of Humbert. Regardless of

How Does Edith Hamilton Use Violence In Greek Mythology
Violence appears frequently in mythology. There is physical disorder and destruction, considered
the most common. This is present in many of the stories dealing with the hero Hercules. It often
feels as though every narrative has a battle, be it a mere skirmish or a great war. Verbal violence
also occurs, prominent when Galatea argues with her sister Doris, in the myth concerning
Polyphemus and his great love for the nymph. Then there are battles in Olympus, the spat Apollo
had with Zeus over the murder of Aesculapius is a fine specimen of this. Furthermore, the Troy
Tale, described in Edith Hamilton s classic Mythology, actually incorporates three varieties of
violence including physical fights, linguistic quarrels, and even conflict concerning... Show more

In, This was just, and the Trojans would have agreed if Athena, at Hera s prompting, had not
interfered. Hera was determined that the war should not end until Troy was ruined. Athena,
sweeping down to the battlefield, persuaded the foolish heart of Pandarus, a Trojan, to break the
truce and shoot an arrow at Menelaus, Mythology page 192, it is perspicuous that these two
goddesses are meddling in the affairs of mortals. They want Troy demolished, Paris dead, and
Aphrodite defeated, and the way the go about this is through humans. Athena coaxes Pandarus
to loose his arrow at the Spartan king, knowing the Greeks will be peeved at this and resume the
battle. During the onslaught, Olympians are wounded alongside men. Aphrodite is hurt by
Diomedes, brave because of Hera, and the Greek s spear, guided by Athena, also strikes Ares.
Such actions prompted by these two goddesses are clear evidence that the Olympians are
involved in the Trojan War. In addition, the consequences of the behavior of Eris show this
particular type of violence. Sly and sneaky, the goddess of discord was not invited to the wedding
of Peleus and Thetis, and was naturally angered by this. She flung an apple, marked For The
Fairest, into the party. The events that occurred afterward would become legendary. Olympus
became divided over Troy,

Nasa Presentation
Nasa project Presentation Overall I think are presentation was good the reason why I think that is.
Are presentation was about the apollo missions one through eleven and what each objective was for
each mission. Each mission was an important role for nasa because they learned many things like
the mistakes they made and the new things they discovered throughout the missions. It s fascinating
how much they were able to achieve in a short period of time.
The apollo missions were like steps for the next mission. The goal at the end was to get the first
man on the moon. It took in total 6 apollo missions to be able to get a man on the moon and back.
The apollo missions where a great achievement for mankind and the united states. Getting a man on
the moon meant that we could go to so many other planets and not just the moon.
Are presentation also went into a little bit of detail on how the race began to the moon against the
other countries including the US and Russia. At the time of the race to the moon, the US and
Russia were in the middle of a cold war at the same time. What started it was the tension with

Education is accessible to everyone through the availability of student loans, just about anyone
can get student loans; and for those that are unsure of how to go about it there is plenty of aid in
the process. Even if one is not raised within the linguistic capital to encourage certain behaviors
and certain linguistic capabilities, this can be achieved through the process of education. The
UNC education system is useful in attaining my goal of educational capital, there is no double
standard, especially online. In the online environment I have no race and in my case minimal
gender. You have no idea how many times that a professor or student has referred to me as
Thomas. The only obstacles in life are self made. If we look hard enough we can find disparity in
any situation, however, that is not always the case. The apparent criticism by Blunden of Bourdieu
in respect to cultural appreciation is that Bourdieu reduces it to nothing more than a status game
(2004); in essence it really isn t much more than that. Work harder, be better, improve and
improvise, that is the American spirit. Everyone has that ability, one just has to possess the drive

  • 2. Improving Quality And Safety For Patient Safety The Role of the Leader in Evaluating Data to Improve Quality and Safety Patient safety is a growing concern among healthcare professionals and the public (Goh, Chan, Kuziemsky, 2013). As professional nurses, it is our duty to demonstrate improved safety for our patients, visitors and guests to the facilities in which we serve. It is also our duty to prevent adverse events and to view unfortunate incidents as learning opportunities to achieve a holistic view of patient care. By improving patient safety, we accept responsibility for more positive patient outcomes and a successful hospital stay. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the importance of data evaluation and interpretation to improve patient quality and safety. Data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In reviewing the data set provided for this study, a large number of falls occurred between the hours of 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. This is the time that a phlebotomist typically enters the room for a morning blood draw or the nurse wakes the patient for a vital sign check. The patients are still in a daze, and it is possible after the clinical personnel leaves, the patient tries to climb out of bed unattended, resulting in a fall (Stempniak, 2015). Lee (2015), states You disturb them, wake them up and they re groggy; then they try to get up and go to the restroom by themselves. They overestimate their ability to function and walk, resulting in a fall (Stempniak, 2015). In addition to the falls data, the Walden University case study (2015) reported One full time employee (FTE) of nursing assistants was moved from the night shift to the evening shift (Data Dashboard, 2015). This change in staff may contribute to the increased falls seen during the overnight hours. An extra nursing assistant would be helpful as a variable rounder, someone to help the nurses and other nursing assistants respond quickly if a patient s call bell is ringing or the patient is in distress. Our report shows an increase in fall risks from 7 am to 11 am daily. This time coincides with patient care, where nursing staff may be attending to one individual patient, often ... • 4. Long Day Landing Essay Correlation Between Lower Extremity Biomechanics and Hip Drop During Single Leg Landing Post ACLR Purpose/Hypothesis: Incidence of second ACL Injury after ACL reconstruction is 17 times higher than healthy uninjured peer athletes. There is high interest in understanding and correcting LE mechanics during single leg landings as the majority of injuries occur during single leg tasks. Strengthening and motor control of the proximal hip musculature has been emphasized to improve pelvic stability and reduce injury risk. Alternatively, decreased load acceptance at the kneemay contribute to excessive hip drop during landing. Those with ACLR consistently demonstrate quadriceps weakness and reduced knee extensor moment during landing. Our aim is to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The isometric strength of the quadriceps was significantly different side to side (INV QUAD = 2.72 В± 0.77, UNINV QUAD = 3.07 В± 0.78, quad LSI = 89% В± 14%). The hip drop of the two limbs were weakly related to one another (r= 0.237, p = 0.026), the involved limb demonstrated more hip drop than the uninvolved (INV HIP ADD =14.55 В± 5.05, UNINV HIP ADD = 11.00 В± 5.31). Quadriceps strength symmetry and normalized max knee extensor moment were inversely related to hip drop with a stronger relationship on the surgical limb (INV: QUAD MVIC r = .341 p = .001, KNEE MOM: r = .425 p .001 (n=88), UNINV: QUAD MVIC r = 0.278 p = .009, KNEE MOM: r = .294 p = .005). Conclusions: There is a significant correlation between sagittal plane knee and frontal plane hip moment during SLL in both limbs. Increased quadriceps strength and increased knee moment was associated with less hip drop during landing. Moreover, the quadriceps strength asymmetry in this population further amplified this relationship on the surgical side. The increased hip drop indicates that the participants involved side was not fully recovered post surgery. • 5. Free Community College Should Be Free Free is a word with a powerful appeal. And right now it s being tossed around a lot, followed by another word: college. (Kamenetz). The debate surrounding free community college for all is becoming rather controversial. Since there has been no law set in place federally some states are taking aim. Washington has a scholarship program called Washington Promise that supports what this act is all for. As the world continues to flatten, it seems the only way to compete in the globalized economy is by higher education. Even though the funding is large, the first two years of community collegeshould be free to all. The Washington Promise, a scholarship program in place to provide scholarships to high schoolseniors who graduate from a Washington high school, is a way to help students in the Yakima Valley attend college and graduate with an A.A degree which helps stress the importance of liberal arts, and help decrease what Thomas Freidman, the author of The World is Flat, calls the education gap at the bottom. Although I believe the first two years of community college should be free to all; many people would disagree. One of the biggest controversies surrounding the issue of free community college is the enormous cost it comes with and how it will be funded. According to Emily Deruy, the author of the article The Debate over Free Community College, The chances of community colleges nationwide becoming free are slim. The White House has said it would cost the federal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. `` The Lottery `` By Shirley Jackson According to Philip Zimbardo the author of The Lucifer Effect: Understanding How Good People Turn Evil, he says Good people can be induced, seduced, and initiated into behaving in evil ways. They can also be led to act in irrational, stupid, self destructive, antisocial, and mindless ways when they are immersed in total situations that impact human nature in ways that challenge our sense of the stability and consistency of individual personality, of character, and of morality (Philip). In the short storyThe Lottery, author Shirley Jacksondemonstrates Zimbardo s concepts in three different areas: Authority figures, Tradition and Superstition, and Loyalty. The first concept Jackson portrays in The Lottery is the authority figures. Jackson indicates that the lottery is being held in the town center by one authority figure, Mr. Summers, annually on June 27th. Every June 27th, without fail, townspeople gather in the town square to participate in the annually lottery even though most of them cannot recall nor question the origin of this event, and none bother to question if it is conducted fairly. Mr. Summers not only conducts the lottery as keeper of the black box, where he makes up the name slips, but is also the only authority figure who marks a black spot on the name slip that sends a person to death by stone. Jackson never discusses how Mr. Summers obtained such power over the town; but everyone in town unquestioningly complies with Mr. Summers s orders. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Advantages Of The Maghrib The modernization of the Maghrib was not beneficial to the culture and modernization of North Africa. Although there were benefits relating to the architectural upgrades and the spread of ideas about politics and the modern world, the forcing of the French culture, division between religions, and the external French motivations were overall not beneficial. The Maghrib is a section of North Africathat includes Morocco, Algeria, Tunisiaand sometimes parts of Libya. Specifically, Algeria was very important to this region as well as the French who tried to colonize and modernize this region. Along with Tunisia, whose impacts from the French are shown through the travels and experiences of Khayr al Din. Ever since the beginning of the French colonization efforts, the natives of the Maghrib were weary of the concept. The French true motivations are evidenced through their new implementation of laws, cultural integration, and disregard for the religious groups of the region. Originally, the Maghrib architecture was distinctly North African, simple in design, and including ornate mosques. Fez is a grand example of the architecture region and all that it has to offer. The mallah section of Fez involves a lot of traditional North African architecture along with Jewish cultural influences. Although the architecture in this region was stunningly beautiful, when the French came in they upgraded a lot of buildings and public areas. Consequently, the region has a gorgeous mix of French colonial and native architecture. A great example of this resides in a town square where there is a mosque in the center and beautiful French colonial architecture surrounding the rest of the square in Algeria. The French influenced architecture as small as the lamp posts and as big as the grand, efficient highways. Due to this, the roadways and general design and architecture of the region was an incredible blend of ancient North African and modern French architecture. The French did not try to fully push their ideas upon the natives of the Maghrib, but instead brought their ideas with them and let the ideas assimilate with the natives to the degree the natives allowed it to. As stated in the Colonial Mythologies article, the idea was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You hear the phrase, you ll never forget your first as you see a small smirk flourish across the faces of people who remember their story. Through all the experiences shared, I never would have believed the result of falling out of love. All of the novels and sweet smiles never hinted about the time I would end up crumbled down on my bedroom s floor, with two years of a person s presence surrounding a broken heart. Nobody will speak of watching your first love leave for college, knowing that they will want to move on. I went through the stages of heartbreak that left me with a cracked and bruised heart. The recovery and journey of finding acceptance and love for myself, created a book of my personal lessons. Going back to that summer is like reading the final book of your favorite series, you soak in the words trying to read slow, savoring. Completing the series leaves a bitter sweet moment, comparing to the emotions that overcame my mind through the process of watching him go. However, it was not beautiful and bittersweet as romance novels paint your first love out to be. Each page in our novel transformed from love to a war zone, as loyalty became nonexistent, and trust only present in waves. The summer was beautiful, but in my heart I knew that this novel was only a fairy tale coming to it s end. There was nothing left to be painted. That hot and humid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Social And Social Order In Ancient Roman Society Social Order: In Roman culture, the society was based on heredity, property, wealth, citizenship and freedom. Roman society was also patriarchal, where it heavily focused more on the men than women. Women were expected to produce male heirs and look after the cleaning and maintenance of the houses they lived in, other than that, they had less independence than men did. Your status in the world is very important. There were different class ranks which represented a certain group of people. These classes often interacted with each other. These classes include Slaves, Freemen, Soldiers, Equestrians, Senators, the Nobility, and the Emperor. These class systems were heavily enforced under the law. The laws even governed what each class wore for clothing. For example, the Emperor was the only one allowed to wear a purple toga. Senators were allowed to wear a white toga with a broad purple stripe along the edge, and horse riders wore togas with a narrow purple stripe. In Roman society, there was also a system of patronage. Members of the upper class would offer protection and freedom to freedmen and plebeians, the working class, if they became their cliens , also known as clients. Freed slaves often became cliens to their former owners. Patronage can include money, food, or legal help. In return, the upper classmen gained respect and political favors. In 1942, women were finally allowed to enter the army or navy which was named as The Women s Army Corps. Women were accepted for volunteer Emergency Services such as in hospitals and got paid or were deployed off with other men leaving their families behind. With the standards of living for the lower class workers in Mexico as poor as they are, hundreds of men, women and children cross America s southern border illegally every year in search of better opportunities for themselves and their offspring. As the 2016 presidential election has illustrated, America is very split on the issue. Republican nominee Donald Trump has stated that if elected president he will build a massive wall along America s southern border, and that illegal immigrants will be deported en masse. Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, has stated that she will lead immigrationreform if elected. While America has not yet decided who will... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Heidy Sarabia, in her paper titled Perpetual Illegality: Results of Border Enforcement and Policies for Mexican Undocumented Migrants in the United States, argues that heightened border security and legalization restrictions created America s illegal immigration problem in the first place. For example, she states that The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA) created mixed status families by only allowing illegal immigrants who had lived in the United States throughout the entirety of 1982 1987 to alter their legal status (Sarabia). She goes on to explain that These mixed status families are one of the most important elements that pull migrants to return to the United States... , and that any attempt to reform immigration that does not address this problem will only serve to create more mixed status families (Sarabia). Additionally, Sarabia explains that illegal immigrants in the United States are settling for longer periods of time than they have in the past for two reasons: First, leaving the United States decreases their opportunities for adjusting their legal status, and second, the intensification of border enforcement has made it more difficult and expensive to return to the United States . So, in order to be with their families, Sarabia argues, and because of the dangers and expense now associated with illegally crossing the border, many undocumented immigrants choose to stay in America as long as they can since obtaining a visa and visiting legally is not an option for many. Sarabia offers an example in the form of Sandra, a Mexican citizen who at the time was trying to enter America to see her sick sister. She attempted to get a visa, but was turned down as many are (Sarabi). Presented with no other options she had little choice but to attempt to cross the border illegally (Sarabia). As a result, bones become weak and may break from a fall or, in serious cases, from sneezing or minor bumps (nof.org). This skeletal disease is characterized by the increase in the fragility of bones as a result of reduced bonemass density and the deformation of the structure of bone tissue (Angin,Erden,Can, 849). Many patients with osteoporosisare instructed by their doctor to exercise; as this will improve their rehabilitation of this disease and lessen the pain associated with it. In this study, researchers wanted to examine the effects of Clinical Pilates Exercises on bone mineral density, physical performance, and quality of life in postmenopausal osteoporosis patients. In order to determine a correlation between Pilates and osteoporosis improvement, forty one women were divided into two groups; the Pilates group and a control group. They are a middle class family living in a small town, Springfield. They represent the average middle class american family with each character in the show representing another symbol separately. I certainly had to make some quick decisions and I m sure you as well had to make some impactful choices. This is exactly what Elie Wiesel was forced to do when it came down to a life or death situation. There are 3 decisions that I had come across that I thought would be important if I was in Elie s position to make a sacrificial or crucial decisions that would determine the outcome of your life or others. One of them is lying about ages. Another is Escaping or staying in camp. The last one is making a wise choice to eat. Let s begin with the ages. One of the decisions Elie had to make was when an inmate was yelling at Elie asking how old he was. The inmate was telling Elie and his father to lie about their ages to the officers so that they would not be killed. Elie, 15 and Shlomo, 50 had to lie about their ages by saying they were 18 and 40 so that they would be able to stay in the camps and not be sent to the crematorium. Elie had to make a fast decision that would be life or death and they chose the right thing to do by listening to the inmate. For all we know, the inmate could ve been setting them up! Was that a wise choice for them to do? Next, we have the Escape. Another decision Elie had to make was when he said I had made up my mind to accompany my father wherever he went (Wiesel 82). Today s advance in technology has thrust the universe nearer to the world of Big Brother, a symbol in George Orwells novel 1984, written after World War 2 with foreshadows of the world s technological future, and imitates the novel through the government s abilities to spy on individuals. • 24. The Problem Of Deaf Culture Deaf culture is a way to start this essay. Most people, when they think of deafness, assume that it is nothing more than a disability. This is erroneous because defining what deaf really means, means looking past the definition and looking into the heart of a deaf person, to see equality among us all. Equality among humans isn t controversial, but what is? Cochlear Implantation is controversial. Inserting an internal disruption of the deaf culture is controversial. Placing an electronic device in your children s ears because you want them to talk like a normal child is controversial. After having a very rigorous debate about CI s in my ASL class, I came to the conclusion that out of 30 students, more than half of them would choose implantation of their young fragile, pure child. Being deaf is way more than just being able to hear, being deaf is a gift; a family within a family, and implanting a child a child under your circumstances only shreds the wrapping paper off that gift. Lets jump right into the positive facts of cochlear implants, because there isn t many. in a very descriptive and informational article by Ron Kotulak, he mentions that, The implant significantly improve the hearing of adults in conjunction with speech reading. Benefits have also been observed in children as young as two. So, it is an unbiased fact that, in some cases, Cochlear Implantation is highly effective and serves as a great purpose for the treatment of hearing loss. The FDA, Food and ... • 25. Empathy In The Rattler When in times of danger, people must often take the actions they see best fit. In The Rattler, the author depicts a vivid story of a man who has to make a difficult choice while facing a rattlesnake in the desert. Despite the man seeing a threat in the snake, it is him that becomes a threat to the other. By using the descriptions of the man, the snake and the specific setting, the author affects the readerby creating a sense of empathyfor the narrator and sympathy for the snake. With such a connection, it adds a greater depth to the story for the reader to analyze. To begin with, the sense of empathy for the man is formed by including his point of view and a description of his character. One of the first examples of these techniques is when he finds the snake and states, My first instinct was to let him go his way. From this thought the reader can tell that the man has no inclination of killing the snake at first and did not see him as any sort of immediate threat. With the author s decision to write the passage in the first person perspective of the man it has a crucial impact of skewing details to reflect off of his perceptions, allowing for a better insight on the character. Another example that helps the readers empathize with the man is when he reveals his views on a potential killing by mentioning, I have never killed an animal I was not obliged to kill. Although all that the man says is that he will only kill an animal if necessary, by choosing to inform the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While the Nanjing government was still struggling with its own control areas and problems of fractional politics, crossing the Yangze River and taking over the southern Chinawere only the issue of time for Mao Zedong. Indeed, its historical status as the capital of China s first republican regime has been depoliticized. On one hand, the disassociation is achieved through a nationalization of the Nationalist s governmental buildings. By renaming and privatizing the physical marks of Nanjing s link with the politically incorrect past for the Party s bureaucrat and administrative use, the symbol of potential political rebellion is eliminated. On the other, the depoliticization is possible through the mass consumption of the Republican past and thereby making the past exotic and irretrievable. This is exemplified in the renovation of the Republican buildings as the Nanjing 1912, one of the most popular tourist sites in Nanjing, located next to the Presidential Palace, which is also commercialized as a major tourist spot. Named after the first year of the ROC s establishment in 1912, this commercial district which houses bars, fancy restaurants, franchised coffee shops, etc. inside Republican style architectures is an ultimate epitome of the demolition of incorrect political memories by the CCP authorities against the backdrop of China s growing market oriented economy. • 27. Morte D Arthur Code Of Chivalry A Knight s Honor: An Analysis of Chivalry Throughout history, people of certain cultures base their lives off special rules, or codes. The Anglo Saxons took examples from the epic hero of Beowulf. Knights during King Arthur s rule lasted by the code of Chivalry. Lessons from this honorable code can be extracted from the text of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, as well as from Morte D Arthur. Each of these memorable pieces of literature show examples of the code of chivalry. The three aspects of chivalry are courage, honor, and self control. To begin, the first form of chivalry can be clearly found in both texts and portrays courage. Kings would knight men in return for their promise of courage, honor and respect from the generous man. Courage is first found in The Green Night when an audacious man named Gawain steps in to accept the challenge demonstrated from the Green Knight himself. Toward the king doth now incline: I beseech, before all here, That this melee may be mine. Gawain demonstrates chivalry by displaying the courage to accept a fatal challenge. Heroism is also presented in the text of Morte D Arthur. This scrap of literature tells about the closing moments of the glorious King Arthur. Even in his deathly state, Arthur shows the quality of bravery by battling for his kingdom after the brutal battle that left all but four men dead. Now, tide me death, tide me life, ... now I see him yonder alone, he shall never escape mine hands. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are difficulties in the study of this topic. The first one is the view of the historiography. Many economist and historians have considered Africa to be underdeveloped even before the colonialism period, which recent studies have proved to be wrong. Africa had a well developed economic system, where the monetization of the economy had created a class society . There needs to be more investigation about this topic, which hopefully will bring some light to this interesting period in time. Secondly, the lack of primary sources is another obstacle to the study of this topic, many of the ones available are biased because they are from a European perspective. However, it is possible to find other material in archaeology, documents and oral stories. Thirdly, the continent of Africa is huge, and in its study, we should try to avoid generalizations, because it erases the particularities of each territory. Therefore, as said, we are going to focus on West and Central Africa, so the study will be more focused and specific. There were many different types of currency in precolonial Africa. Among them the most used ones were cowries, copper, cloth, slaves, gold, silver and salt. Before a film reaches the cinema screen, and its audience it must go through a three stage process. Firstly and most obviously it has to be produced, following this it must then be distributed, and finally exhibited. Before the introduction of the studio system in the 1920s all of these processes were controlled separately. Although this gave the makers of films, such as directors and producers, room to express their creativity it placed a heavy constraint upon the amount of movies that could be made, and financial profits. However, despite Hollywood s uneasy birth, by the 1920s it had become one of the worlds leading film producers (Dirks, 2002). I will discuss the similarities and the differences of the film and the book, blending the difference of genres and leveling the field, allowing to compare. Staring off, I would like to mention the fact that a comparison of the book and the film is a difficult thing to do, as these genres are very different in their nature. Let s start with the novel: as a lot of Cormac McCarthy s novels this one is a stylized gothic Western , its intense and both depressing, emotional and fascinating to read with its vivid imagery and gripping plot. McCarthy s blood soaked Mexican border, hitmen, gangs, drugs, the rotten aspect of the government, sociopathic murderers, etc. Lack of punctuation, for me personally, was a lackluster part of the whole novel. The quote, Am I under arrest? I repeated. They can t make you answer any questions if you re not under arrest, and when you ask if you re under arrest, they have to answer you. It s the rules, clearly demonstrates how Marcus is exercising his civil rights, while the DHS is continually violating them by not providing clear responses and explanations for detainment. As you can see, this is where the story initially outlines the social justice chart (target, ally, bystander, and perpetrator). It shows us that Marcus is the target as he is the person on the receiving end of the imposed prejudice and that the DHS is the key perpetrator as it is the government organization that is imposing prejudice/bias towards a group of people. Although it is hard to notice, we can also find that the rules/laws that Marcus recites act as an ally because it attempts to interrupt the prejudice /bias being imposed. (CDC, 2015) Female ticks will die in the spring when her eggs burst from her body. These eggs will litter the forest floor and eventually hatch into 6 legged larvae in the summer. These larva then attach to much smaller mammals, such as field mice or small birds. Ticks spend as long as it takes, usually a few days at most, finding the perfect spot to latch on and begin feeding. The larva feed for a few days or until they are full and eventually drop off the host. With their appetite sated, larval ticks will now prepare for their next stage of life. This occurs over the course of the fall and winter time period as ticks burrow underground to retain warmth. They emerge in the spring, this time as 8 legged nymphs and the feeding cycle begins anew. This is also the period where lyme disease becomes an issue. While feeding on smaller animals, ticks contract the disease and they become carriers. They will transmit the disease as nymphs. Like the larvae, a nymph attaches to a larger mammal ranging from squirrels to human beings. Over the course of a few days, the nymph finds a spot to attach and feed. This happens over Spring and Summer. If they wait too long, the nymph will die of starvation. When sated once again, the nymph falls to the forest floor and prepares one more to proceed to the next stage of life. By Autumn, nymphs will have grown into adults. This is one of the more important stages simply because reproduction can now occur. Females will find a host in order to feed. Males find a host and a suitable mate. The male, once a mate is found, will fertilize as many females as it possibly can before dying. The females will continue to feed until they are full and eventually drop off. Once she is ready to lay eggs in the spring, her body will burst and the eggs distribute along the forest floor as the cycle begins ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The book has also been described as highbrow pornography and absolutely disgusting . But why is the book deemed so obscene and disgusting? Instead of using the book as a moral compass and convicting and condemning the deep rooted corruption that lurks within Humbert Humbert as a paedophile, the reader is assaulted and softened by the power of appeal . In other words, the reader is strangely and obscenely seduced to identify and indulge in their own desires, but by no means specifically perversion, to then cloud the reader s judgement of whether Humbert is guilty or not.
