Human Rhinovirus Essay
The Microbe
Human Rhinovirus is best known as the common cold. Rhinoviruses are small viruses that are
not surrounded by an envelope. These non enveloped viruses contain a single stranded RNA
genome within a twenty sided capsid. This icosahedral virus is part of the picornaviridae family,
which also includes viruses such as polio and hepatitis A. This pathogen measures to be about 27
nm in diameter. There have been several serotypes that have been identified within the Rhinovirus
microbe. These serotypes can be divided into groups, which include: RhV A and RhV B groups,
with RhV A2 and RhV C subclasses. These specific groups are organized within their sequence
similarity, as well as their cell entry receptors. Unlike other members in the picornaviridae ... Show

There is still no known treatment or cure for the human rhinovirus. However, over the counter
medications will help ease the symptoms but will not make the virus go away. Some over the
counter medications can be the use of antihistamines and nasal decongestants. When a person is
infected with the rhinovirus, it is very rare for the person to be hospitalized. However, it to be taken
into consideration that persons infected with the rhinovirus infection are contagious and people that
are involved with the infected should take the necessary precautions. Persons with rhinovirus
infections are almost always treated as outpatients. These outpatients may limit their activity during
the course of the infection and symptoms are usually improved within 48 72 hours after the onset
of symptoms. The usual course of this specific illness lasts about 6 10 days. After the rhinovirus
runs its course, the expected outcome is that the individual should be fully cured, as the human
rhinovirus does not typically produce a long term illness. If someone has acquired the virus, it is
important for the individual to get lots of rest and drink plenty of fluids. More treatments involving
human rhinoviruses include: using alcohol based compounds to disinfect the environment, washing
hands, providing comfortable surrounding

Action Potential Analysis
In our brain we have neurons that communicate every second of the day with one other through
their dendrite and axons. Most of the time incoming signals are received in the dendrites and
outgoing signals travel down the axon to the nerve terminal. For the neuron to receive the rapid
communication due to the long axon, the neuronsends electrical signals, from the cell s body to the
nerve terminal. This process is known as nerve impulses, or action potential. Brain neurons can
transmit signals using a flow of sodium(Na+) and potassium (K+) ions, that produces an
electrical spike called an action potential (AP) (Forrest, 2014, P. 1). Action potential is essentially
a slight reversal of electric polarity across the membrane. When an action potential takes place, the
sodium potassium pump resets the way sodium and potassium ions were back to their original
positions. The sodium potassium does this to the neuron so when it is then ready to relay another
action potential, it will pump when called upon to do so. The Na+/K+ pump has a housekeeping
role rather than a direct role in brain signaling (Forrest, 2014, P. 1). For an action potential to be
generated the membrane voltage must be strong enough to bring the membrane voltage to a critical
value called the threshold.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the action potential is near its peak, sodium channels begin to close which then allows the
potassium channels to fully open. Potassium ions rush out of the cell and the voltage quickly
returns to its original resting state. This corresponds to the falling phase of the action potential.
Sodium and potassium at this point have switched places across the membrane and the resting
membrane potential is then slowly restored due to diffusion and the sodium potassium pump.
Without the process of the sodium potassium pump and the action potential, our nerve cells will not

Interstitial Cystitis(IC)/Painful Bladder Syndrome (PBS)
Is the pain, All in my Head , or is it something else?
It is estimated that over 3.3 million U.S. women, or 2.7 percent, who are 18 years of age or older
have pelvic pain and other symptoms, such as urinary urgency or frequency, that are associated with
IC/PBS. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other sources, like (Reviews in Urology) suggest that urinary markers of IC may help Brown 5
with diagnosis, treatment, and follow up of IC patients. With this in mind, I feel my research
can help in getting the word out there about IC/PBS, and Chronic Pelvic Pain (CPP). One of the
more interesting sources came from: The better Bladder Book What s Bugging your Bladder by
Wendy Cohan. The chapter pg 96, discusses the role of food sensitivity in IC. It argues that food
sensitivities play a huge role in causing or worsening bladder symptoms and can also contribute
to harmful inflammation throughout the body. A lot of this relates to the types of foods we eat
and how our bodies process those foods. In my own experience in trying to find the right
treatment options, diet was one of the first that I had to change. Things that are high in acid like
tomatoes could cause a painful flare up that could last from hours to days, or even months, so
eliminating this from my diet was one way to eliminate another painful flare. This book was
written with a copyright date of 2011, and since then, no changes have been made to IC Diet that
I could find in any of my sources. As part of the other side of the debate , I did look for different
opinions on opposing viewpoints but could not find any articles that disputed any of the claims that
I have researched thus far. I did find that the AUA has

Isoroku Yamamoto Essay
Isoroku Yamamoto Isoroku Yamamoto was born on a fishing island and many of the men
became sailors. He was born unto Takano Teikichi and Mineko (his second wife). His father
named him Isoroku meaning fifty six (His Dad was 56 when Mineko gave birth to him). Takano
became a school teacher after giving up his samurai warrior career. He was part of the Echigo
clan. The Echigo clan is an ancient warrior clan who disobeyed the Meiji emperor. Yamamoto
joined the Japanese Naval Academy at Etajima near Hiroshima during 1904 and he graduated
there seventh in his class in hopes to be a war hero. After he spent 3 years and graduated, he
went and fought in the Russo Japanese War. He was given a cruiser class ship called Nisshin.

His other Admirals slowly gave their authority to him and he ran the combined naval and aerial
fleet. He struck fear in his soldiers so they would be obedient to him. Yamamoto s planning had
some faults after the Pearl Harbor attack and he lost 4 crucial carriers including his old command
ship the Akagi. The Japanese were still facing a very dangerous enemy. The Japanese thought
less of the American Navy and Air Force and underestimated them. Yamamoto made some
terrible mistakes during the war with the United States. He was unwilling to let the Japanese use
their big guns against the US force, it cost him a defeat because it was already too late when he
gave the order to use the big guns. He was killed while being flown to inspect US bases by US
aircraft. Source #1:

Athens And Rome Vs. Rome
#2Athens and Rome are two separate paradigms; they both had a certain standard to a way of
life. Athens was civic and Rome was technocratic towards their people. Meaning that Athens was
people based which gave the public responsibility to how they wanted to live because they had a
voice. They also had customs that connected them as people, like social gatherings. Rome on the
other hand was technology based which was more about how to make money or spend money to
fix a problem. If these two civilizations were given a problem they would have different solutions
because of their way of thinking. If they had a transportation problem for instance in the 21 century,
one would look at it in an emotional human way and the other would look at it in an economical
way.
The Greeks could asks the people to maybe car pool and have an economic incentive, so people
will want to do this to decrease traffic jams. In a sense you could peer pressure some one for a
good cause to show that this is what you should be doing and if you don t you will feel shame
from not carpooling. Every one is doing it is now giving a positive for the community and solving
a problem with out spending money. Where the Romans solution is to look at the town or cityand to
just build more roads. Which will then begin to create a disconnect to its people, creating a
different dynamic to the life style of the community. Now the people are designed to act and

The Sociological Imagination, By Martin Luther King
Martin Luther King wrote the following in a campus newspaper, the Maroon Tiger 1947,
It seems to me that education has a two fold function in the life of man and in society: the one is
utility and the other is culture (King, 1947).
This essay will analyse via the sociological imagination, whose interests does schooling serve and
why? In addressing this question, one needs to discuss why is an education so valued in Australia
today.
Education has had three phases of development according, to Van Krieken, 2013. Each phase
being associated with a set of beliefs about the nature and purpose of education. Firstly, the advent
of the modern system from the mid 19th century to World War II, influenced chiefly by liberal
humanist ideas. Secondly, post World War II expansion into the late 1970 s was influenced by
social democratic beliefs. Finally, the increased marketisation of education which has been
influenced by neoliberalism since the 1980 s (Krieken, 2013, p. 149).
In Australia, post World War II the federal government began to take an increasing role over the
states in education, as states were finding it increasingly difficult to fund higher education due in
part to the baby boom post World War II and the requirement for more university trained teachers
and by the late 1950 s. Furthermore, politically, grouwing desire among politicians to enable more
potential students to enroll in higher education(Krieken, 2013, p. 150).
Moving forward in time, a series of government

Comparison Of The Three Cabritos And The Three Billy Goats...
The Three Cabritos is the retelling of The Three Billy Goats Gruff with a Tex Mex background
unlike the contrary which have more of an American culture background. The author clearly states
at the end of her book, The Three Cabritos is my own original retelling of The Three Billy Goats
Gruff with a Texas twist (Kimmel 29). The background and the writing of the tale but told in
different cultures. In The Three Cabritos and The Three Billy Goats Gruff, the main characters
appearances are distinct, but the story follows the same plot line. The main characters appearances
being distinct but the same story also has a couple dissimilarities. One of the main differences
between the two stories is that the monster in The Three Cabritos is a Cupacabra whereas the
monster in The Three Billy GoatsGruff is a goblin. By changing the monster the author incorporates
the Tex Mex culture into the story.
Additionally, the cultural backgrounds are extremely different for example, The Three Cabritos
the scene is a ranch located near the Rio Grande filled with cactus. Also in the sketches, the goats
are cartoon farm animals and the cabritos are dressed in overalls while holding their instruments.
In The Three Cabritos the cabritos are given typical Hispanic culture names: Reynaldo, Orlando,
and Augustin. The purpose for the cabritos to cross the bridge is also a difference between the
two stories. In The Three Cabritos the reason they crossed was to attend a fiesta. The story goes
One day the three cabritos heard there was going to be a fiesta just across the border in Mexico.
Lets Go! The three cabritos said (Kimmel 3). They want to go the fiesta to dance and play all
night. In The Three Billy Goats Gruff takes place on a field of trees and flowers that surround a
meadow. In The Three Billy Goats Gruff exact names are not given, just Little Billy GoatGruff,
Middle Billy Goat Gruff, and Great Big Billy Goat Gruff. The reason for crossing the bridge was,
that they were eating all the grass on their side and they needed more. The story reads, Yes , said
his big brother, Great Big Billy Goat Gruff. All we have to do is cross the wooden bridge, and we
can eat to our hearts content (Randall 3).

returns As the stationarity of stock prices can strongly influences its behavior and properties and
the use of non stationary data can lead to spurious regressions, thus test of stationarity is more
than necessary in research of daily stock prices. I applied Augmented Dickey Fuller test here to
check for unit root. The results for the daily stock prices appear as in Table 1. Table 1 The value
of the test statistic and the relevant critical values given the type of test equation and sample
size, are given in the first panel of the output above. Clearly, the test statistic is 1.261047 that is
not more negative than the critical value, so the null hypothesis of a unit root in the stock price
series cannot be rejected. Since one of the independent variables in this regression is non
stationary, it is not appropriate to examine the coefficient standard errors or their t ratios in the
test regression. Now repeat all of the test for first difference of the daily stock prices. The output
appear as in the following Table 2. Table 2 The test statistic is 34.10940 which is more negative
than the critical value and hence

Scapegoats In The Crucible
In the play The Crucible, the use of scapegoats is rampant; the main use being to place blame
onto others in order to deflect blame from themselves or to help reach a goal. Those that don t
agree with the majority or have differing ideas are outcasts and easily made scapegoats. Many of
the scapegoats in the play can attribute the blame they receive to the antagonist, Abigail
Williams. Three primary examples of people that are scapegoats because of Abigail are, the
Parris servant Tituba, the Proctor s servant Mary Warren, and Elizabeth Proctor the wife of
Abigail s past infatuation. At the start of the play Abigail faces accusations from Parris and
Reverend Hale of dancing in the woods. Knowing that dancing in the woods is a very critical

Throughout the play we see instances where Abigail shows she still has feelings for John saying
things like Give me a word, John. A soft word. , but she is only met with rejection from John No,

righteous life. Even though John has made his intentions clear Abby continuously attempts to
sway him ...do you tell me you ve never looked up at my window? (Miller 23) believing he will
still come back to her. After still facing rejection from John, Abigail believes the only reason he
denies her is because of his wife. Knowing that she has the power to condemn people by accusing
them of witchcraft, Abigail decides that it is the only option she has to be with John. As time
goes on the Proctor family is torn apart when Cheever, a clerk of the court, comes with a warrant
for Elizabeth. The Proctor s find out the reason for the arrest is because of attempted murder
through the use of witchcraft. It is to our understanding that a poppet that is in the possession of
Elizabeth, given to her by their servant, Mary, was used to attempt to murder Abigail . As the
situation goes on we discover the entire ordeal was an elaborate plan by Abigail when Mary
says ...she saw me sewin it in court. Or better still: Ask Abby, Abby sat beside me when I made
it. revealing that it was a plan by Abigail. Abigail saw Mary making a poppet for Elizabeth and
came to the realization that it would probably be her best chance to get Elizabeth out of the

Foreign Assistance For Foreign Aid
Although foreign aid has been going on for hundreds of years, it still remains a controversial
topic. Many people have debated whether or not it actually either helps or harms nations. Foreign
aid can help undeveloped states by providing education and health care. However, a drawback to
foreign aid is that it can cause countries to become dependent and lead to corruption. Foreign aid is
effective when countries don t try to use foreign aid for their own benefit and when coordination
and accountability is implemented. 7 Foreign aid is beneficial because it can provide education.

5 Numerous countries could benefit from improved health care from foreign aid. People in other
countries all around the world are suffering from illnesses and diseases that could be fixed with
better medical assistance from foreign aid. Stated in his article An American Miracle, Michael
Elliott reports, From 2004 to 2013, the U.S. committed more than $50 billion to the global fight
against AIDS, and last year accounted for some two thirds of all international assistance to that
effort. Programs funded by American taxpayers have saved more than 7 million lives overseas.
(Elliot) This shows that America s help has already greatly impacted many people. Multiple
countries don t have proper sanitized tools, medical facilities, and funding to treat sickness. With
help, countless illnesses could be vanquished. 3 Foreign aid is inferior because it could lead
countries to become dependent. The meager amount of resources these countries receive fails to
offer adequate help to actually save countries. Consequently, people then start to rely on the new
income and resources that foreign aid provides and would collapse without it. According to James
M. Roberts , Traditional foreign aid, which relies on a government to government model, doesn t do
enough to generate significant and sustainable opportunities on the ground for people in developing
nations.

The Secretary Chant, By Marge Piercy
What attitudes does each of the three authors have about the consequences of work? The authors
of the three texts all share a similar attitude towards the consequences of work, which is that it
can be detrimental to one s physical and mental wellbeing. Author of text One The Secretary
Chant, Marge Piercy describes the stressful life of a secretary and how the accumulation of
stressful events leads to the secretary feeling mechanical and dehumanised. Piercy implies that,
with overwork, people can begin to lose a sense of who they are. In this instance, the Secretary
believes she is no longer a human, but instead a part of the office as her voice has been lost in the
quantity of work that must be done. Similarly, Steven Poole, who wrote text... Show more content

This is further enhanced by the use of emotive language and a detached and melancholy tone.
The use of the verb, hang, and the noun, chains, acts as a possible allusion to other historical
events of oppression such as slavery. Such vocabulary choices emphasise the way in which the
secretary feels trapped and objectified in her own work environment. The secretary feels
trapped because of the way that she has been objectified, which suggests that she is only valued
for her ability to work like other office equipment, evident in line 1 where she states, my hips are
a desk. The mechanical way that the secretary is employed establishes how she no longer feels
as though she is a human. Instead, she is simply part of the office and the repetitive
onomatopoeic, buzz, and, clicks, that define workplace environments. This is supported by line
21, where the persona states, file me under W because I wonce was a woman. In a similar way,
text 2 considers the damaging effect of work through a satirical narrative voice. This is achieved
by exploring how humans are essentially slaves of the digital world. When humans go on
holiday; an event that epitomises quite the opposite of work, they are still plagued by, the fear
that catching up on a fortnight s email will be epically disgusting labour. Whilst the prospect of
reading one s emails is not the crux of the article, it acts as a humours anecdote that reminds
readers of the dangers of letting the digital world control them. The light hearted narrative voice of
the text is emphasised by the use of colloquial terms and inclusive language, such as, that first
volume of Karl Ove Knausgard you ve been meaning to read, as it appeals to the demographic of

Researchers in the field of neuroscience have long disputed the type of neural modelling that
allows for the processing of visual stimuli in the brain. I believe that a hierarchical framework
exists in which both distributed and localised modelling can occur at different stages. Distributed
modelling occurs at lower hierarchal levels and localised modelling, characterised by grandmother
cells, occurs at higher levels. Neurons in higher levels pool information passed on from lower
levels to so that the representation of concepts becomes more complex and specialised. It is through
this formation of grandmother cells that a visual stimulus can be represented in the brainin an
invariant manner.
Research on the processing of visual stimuli have lead to findings that supports the notion of
hierarchal modelling in the brain. Hubel and Wiesel (1968) discovered the hierarchal coding of
neural cells in the primary visual cortex. Complex cells in this cortex ... Show more content on

hair colour, complexion) are associated with a visual stimulus. This is achieved through the
synchronised and repetitive firing of distributed neurons. Since it just so happened that I was
once good friends with this person, I do actually associate many low level features with her.
Hence, it is more likely that I posses a vastly sparse or localised representation of them in the
higher areas of my brain. The grandmother cell in my brain that has been devoted to her will be
invariantly activated when I am presented with a visual stimulus of her such as the newspaper
photo. Moreover, it allows me to achieve faster neural response and stimulus recognition. It is
possible that this neuron will also be activated when I am presented with a visually similar stimulus
as a result of incidental co activation or that I possess redundant grandmother cells that represent

How Technology Is The New Reality All Around The World
Future of IoT
IoT is quickly becoming the new reality all around the world. The creation of IoT devices are
expected to triple in the next few years (Rossolillo 2016). The IoT appliances include everything
from autonomous cars to smart tattoos. As the gadgets change the technology and platforms used
disseminate the information will also change and become more refined through Narrowband IoT.
The future of the internet of things is expected to bring significant improvement to individual lives,
corporations, and the global gross domestic product (GDP).
Trajectory of the internet Things
Since the beginning of time humans have created and made innovative products that push the
boundaries of evolution and are at the edge of technology. As a society we have paraded around
many of the technologies to improve our lives as well as our family s lives. Despite this the
problem that many companies are having today in selling their products is the consumer is asking:
Why do I need this? Companies that carry luxury and expensive products are now looking to take
luxury products and make them everyday products (Klein 2016).
Apple watch is a prime example of an IoT product and spin off product not faring the best in the
industry. When the Apple watch first arrived on the market it left several people fascinated, but it
also left a considerable amount of people asking why they need a smart watch when they already
have an iPhone or just a normal watch. The Apple watch retails for as low as

Roethkes Use of Tone Essay
Roethke s Use of Tone
Childhood experiences seem to be the ones that are recollected most vividly throughout a person s
life. Almost everyone can remember some aspect of his or her childhood experiences, pleasant and
unpleasant alike. Theodore Roethke s poem My Papa s Waltz suggests even further that this
concept could be true. The dance described in this poem illustrates an interaction between father
and child that contains more than the expected joyous, loving attitude between the two characters.
Roethke s tone in this work exhibits the blended, yet powerful emotions that he, as a grown man,
feels when looking back on this childhood experience. The author somewhat implicates feelings of
resentment fused with a loving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This stanza also provides the reader with the feeling of how aggressive this dance may be.
Roethke is apparently referring to his father s belt buckle in the last line of the third stanza.
During an aggressive act such as this, a small child would experience pain from such a man s
belt buckle scraping across his ear in this fashion, yet the child refrains from any type of
resistance. Perhaps this is caused by the child s fear that his father will become angry, so the child
simply endures the pain and tries to enjoy the moment, for he may also feel love and attention that
he may not receive regularly from his father.
Bridges 3 John J. McKenna offers us further suggestions about the feelings suggested in this poem.
In McKenna s article, two of the holograph manuscripts to My Papa s Waltz are discussed.
McKenna implies that the changes made between these manuscripts are further evidence that this
poem shows mixed emotions through the tone that Roethke utilizes. These holograph manuscripts
are labeled MS A and MS B at the University of Washington where they are contained in the
archives. The first of these changes discussed in McKenna s article is the gender of the child in
the poem. He discusses how Roethke seemed to argue with himself about what the sex of the child
should be, but finally chooses male for a few different reasons. It seems plausible that he did
recognize the rough house nature of

The Shawshank Redemption Analysis
In the movie The Shawshank Redemption, a man named Andy Dufresne gives viewers an insight
on hope, friendship, and time. It can be hard enough to survive this world as a civilian, let alone a
prisoner. When Andy gets to the Shawshank prison there is not much to it besides four walls and
some innocent criminals. Andy is sort of like this beacon of light coming into the prison. He doesn t
come in and make things better, but he gives some of the prisoners a sense of the outside world.
In a world where it is easy to get lost, hope, friendship, and time are essentials in survival.

person like Red. Without Red, Andy might just have gone insane. Red helped give Andy hope.
While in prison Andy never let go of hope. Even through his first two years in Shawshank he still
held onto hope. There were a few things that helped Andy hold on to hope, one of those things
was Red. While talking to Red in a letter, Andy told him Remember Red, hope is a good thing,
maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies . This just proved how much Andy
believed that hope was the one thing that nobody could ever take from him. Not only was this

the better side of hope. When Andy pulled off his escape he helped Red see that there is

What Is Appeasement In The 1930s
In the 1930s, Germany and other nations got away with doing whatever they wanted. Countries
such as Great Britain and France allowed Germany to continue doing this because they wanted to
keep peace in Europe . This was known as appeasement. Appeasement is when nations give into a
nation to keep peace.
Germany took advantage of other European countries not doing anything to stop them by
conquering a large amount of land. Hitler also pledged that he would undo the Treaty of Versailles.
He accomplished this by entering a narrow strip of land known as the Rhineland, which was
prohibited by the treaty. France was stunned and were unwilling to risk war. Capturing the
Rhineland strengthened Hitler s power and prestige and changed the balance of power

treatments have been a highly active research field in the past few years. Expert systems can assist
medical professionals and other users in providing correct diagnosis and suggesting effective
treatments of diseases. In other words, intelligent systems for diagnosing common illnesses can
provide easy access to a wealth of information that may help hospitals reduce excessive costs from

This section provides succinct and coherent information about the important techniques and
concepts that are related to this project such as what is an expert system and what is the ID3
algorithm which is used as the data mining technique. The following subsections are an overview
for each of these concepts:
2.1 Expert Systems:
Expert systems are computer programs capable of performing a task that normally requires the
knowledge from experts in the field [9]. Two different approaches represent knowledge in expert
systems. One is based on production rules (IF THEN), which are applied to the knowledge base
in an orderly manner to produce the solution to a diagnostic problem [3]. The second approach is
based on nodal networks of disease features linked together in a variety of patterns against which
the new patient s features are compared by pattern matching. Some recent systems combine features
of both approaches. A second generation of expert systems now make use of networks where
causal pathophysiological information is embodied. This latter type provides particularly complex
explanatory feedback [9].
There are many different techniques that can be used by expert systems and clinical decision
support systems in order to improve the systems work such as: Causal Probabilistic Network,

Examples Of The Mistakes Of Entrepreneurs
Three Big Scaling Mistakes that Entrepreneurs Make
Every entrepreneur starts their business with a dream. Usually, that dream involves getting bigger,
better, and making more money. It s a good dream.
The problem is that growing your business can be tricky. If you don t do it properly, you can hurt,
or even destroy, your business. All too often beginning entrepreneurs scale prematurely, hire the
wrong people, and don t create the right systems and processes. You wantto grow your business to
match your dream, but if you make these three mistakes (or any one of them) you may see your
dream vanish before your eyes.

Hire thoughtfully and train thoroughly. Then, and this is the hard part, you need to step back and
let them do it. Micromanaging your employees is counterproductive and a waste of your time and

Marketing Just because you understand your business better than anyone doesn t mean that you
know how to market it properly. All too often entrepreneurs try to do too much themselves.
Marketing specialists understand your local market, your competition, and if they re any good,
they ll get to know your business almost as well as you know it yourself. Rather than wasting
money trying to do it yourself, invest in a pro and watch your business grow.
Accounting and Taxes Just like marketing, many entrepreneurs think they have the smarts to
handle their own accounting and taxes. Even if you have a great mind for numbers, as a business
owner, you don t have the time to research all the applicable tax laws that can affect your
business. Hire a CPA and develop a tax strategy from the beginning to help maximize your profits

Analysis Of Prufrock s A Good Boy
The District court improperly granted summary judgment as a reasonable jury could find that
Prufrock suffered a tangible detriment when he was denied tutoring and received the worst
English grade of his college career after he rejected Professor Crewel s offer to take care of things
for him if he was a good boy .(Prufrock Dep. 4:5 24, June 1, 2014.)To determine whether plaintiff
suffered a tangible detriment, courts consider whether 1) plaintiff suffered a material loss and 2)
the lossresulted from plaintiff s rejection of advances. See e.g., Johnson v. Galen Health Insts.,
Inc., 267 F. Supp. 2d 679, 684 (W.D. Ky. 2003).
Courts have defined a material loss as an adverse change to a crucial aspect of the employment or
educational experience. See e.g., Bowman v. Shawnee, 220 F.3d 456, 461 462 (6th Cir. 2000);
Johnson 267 F. Supp. 2d at 684. In the educational context, courts have found that a jurycould find
a tangible detriment to be a loss of course credit, evaluations, grades and recommendations.
Johnson 267 F. Supp. 2d at 684. In Johnson the court held that a reasonable jury could find that the
plaintiff suffered a material loss where she failed the course as receiving credit was a crucial aspect

evaluations were material components of education. 993 F. Supp. 1119, 1129 (N.D. Ohio 1998).

mankind has been studying dreams since the invention of the written word. Perhaps the lure of

However, this kind of thinking did not last long. A Greek philosopher in the 5th Century named
Heraclitus was probably the first to suggest that dreams actually originated from within. He stated
that each individual s dreams were unique and were products of his own mind. Socrates and Plato
followed where Heraclitus left off, corroborating his theory with their own research. Finally it was
Aristotle who completely dispelled the notion that dreams were attempts at divine communication.
His practical approach to dream research paved the way for future scholars such as Freud and
Jung. Aristotle stated that dreams were most often fragments of the days events, and could
sometimes provide insight into one s personal problems. (Parker 10 15)
In 1899, more than two thousand years after Aristotle, Sigmund Freud published The
Interpretation of Dreams and modern dream psychology was born (Fontana 26). Freud looked
down on other methods of dream interpretation because they were too rigid. Psychologists would
create lists of dream symbols along with their meaning so that they could quickly look up the
meaning of a dream. Freud believed that each person associated dream symbols with different
things. For example, a ship going through a storm could represent a difficult time at work for one
person, but it could represent a health problem for someone else. Freud developed his own method
of dream interpretation, which he called free

Dojo Toolkit is an open source modular JavaScript library (or more specifically JavaScript toolkit)
designed to ease the rapid development of cross platform, JavaScript/Ajax based applications and
web sites. Dojo is a Javascript framework targeting the many needs of large scale client side web

AngularJS encourages and enforces to minimize DOM manipulations and recommends to perform
DOM manipulation only from directives that can be used in HTML thus avoiding spaghetti code
resulting from extensive DOM manipulations and DOM events etc. that are hard to debug and trace
in large web applications. Angular directives also help to increase the semantics of the HTML.
Angular provides features like modules that lets the application developer package different parts of
the application logic as modules to increase modularity and maintainability of the application.
Angular provides features like DI (Dependency Injection) design pattern inherently that help in
maintaining modularity and comprehensibility of the application.
Project structure scaffolds are available for AngularJS for development of maintainable enterprise

Dojo does not provide mechanisms to minimize DOM manipulations and thus for large web

Images of the Future in Neurology
The study of neurology attempts to explain the most fascinating aspects unique to humanity and
theorizes an explanation for the causes of mental dysfunctions. Vilanyur S. Ramachandran,

human brain, and his studies with those who have mental disorders have transformed neuroscience.
One of his greatest research topics, mirror neurons, poses as an explanation of phenomena ranging
from the development of language and the transmission of culture to empathy, autism, and even the

Ocean Surface Current Simulation
OSCURS, or the Ocean Surface Current Simulator, created by Jim Ingraham to improve and cut
down the time needed to calculate and compile necessary data for the ocean currents. The original
thought behind the simulation was to track down varies salmon species and their spawn locations
at the North Pacifics. Fisheries needed more data and analysis to track down the salmons, and the
best ways are by water salinity and temperature. By compiling the data of how the salmons swim
along the ocean currents, it was a job for OSCURS to predict the locations. OSCURS allow
oceanographycalculations to be done with speed and high accuracy, which enable more advanced
level of techniques of observing the ocean currents. OSCURS wasn t only useful for the snarks...

Ebbesmeyer raises questions include understanding how do all sorts of drifters ended up
separated by the same categories at different beaches. By now, Ebbesmeyer has a good
understanding about OSCURS and know that it will be the go to program whenever a drifter
related question comes up. By recognizing that each drifter is varies by sizes, the wind that
blows upon the drifter, the deflection angle of the drifter can contribute heavily to where it
possibly can end up or the amount of time it will require for the drifter to land. The hockey glove
spill in 1994 is a great example of why wind factors and deflection angle matters. OSCURS can
only be so accurate when the programs runs on the controllable data such as weather, direction
of currents, and locations of spillage, but uncontrollable factors like wind and the drifter floating
angles can create small differences in the calculation that leads to errors as well. Because of the
glove floatation with fingers floating upward, they travel 20 percent quicker than flotsams like
shoes or sneakers, as well as left or right sided gloves can drift separately on different currents,
ending up on different locations. From this spillage, OSCURS showed Ebbesmeyer an interesting
result of how same drifter can still be vary and sort by the ocean currents even at the slightest
matter such as

Examining Canadian Discrimination within a Society in...
Every individual in society is guaranteed a certain amount of protection and equality from the state
regardless of their situation or background. Depending on how the terms discrimination and
equality are interpreted in the courts will those rights apply.
In the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, section 15 consists of two subsections which will be
examined in terms of discrimination within society. As stated in section 15 (1) Every individual is
equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal protection of the law without
discrimination...... .1 The term discrimination here refers to all the forms of discrimination such as
race, ethnicity, or any forms of disabilities. However, discrimination can also be applied in a general

There are ways for the courts to prevent things such as trivial matters in courts through proper
interpretation. There are two ways courts can interpret matters, there is the textual and contextual
approach. In this situation, the approach would be more contextual as it would focus on the use
of reason to interpret the law beyond what is in the statute and more based on societal factors.8
Societal factors refer to a person s economic, financial, educational, or a person s background.
Some people in society have a low standing in all these factors, which would put them at a
disadvantage and most laws reflect those needs.
All these factors contribute to how the Andrews case and other issues could be used to support the
inclusion of the terms social condition and social class within section 15 of the Charter. There are
other elements that can support this such as the type of equality that is involved and how it relates
to human dignity
This case is significant in terms of this paper since the courts discussed some key principles
concerning section 15. One of those principles claims that Section 15 is not, however, a general
guarantee of equality: differential treatment does not necessarily result in inequality... .3 In most
circumstances, this can be considered true as the Charter cannot provide protection for every single
issue, otherwise people would go to

In Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven the main character faces many challenges living in
Seattle. He is trying to live a normal life as an American but the community all seems to have a
problem or they are afraid of him. He was forced to be the bad person around the area only because
he was from a different ethnic background. Why should that matter? In this story stereotypeand
racism is big and people has to see how that can only affect an individual deeply. In the first
paragraph of the story the author shows us how you can be you can be treated as suspect before

T.C. is a 30 year old woman who 3 weeks ago underwent a vaginal hysterectomy and right
salpingooophorectomy for abdominal pain and endometriosis. Postoperatively she experienced an
intraabdominal hemorrhage, and her hematocrit (Hct) dropped from 40.5% to 21%. She was
transfused with 3 units of packed RBCs (PRBCs). After discharge she continued to have abdominal
pain, chills, and fever and was subsequently readmitted twice: once for treatment of postoperative
infection and the second time for evacuation of a pelvic hematoma. Despite treatment, T.C.

2. Formulate a plan, given the resources mentioned previously.
The plan I would need in place would first to address her respiratory status and maintain a patent
airway. I would also want to have the patient demonstrate how to splint while deep breathing or
coughing. I would ask the Cna to help with position changes every 2 hours or more if needed for
comfort for the patient. I would need to do a full assessment at this point if the patient is more
stable. By having the patient deep breath will also help her return to consciousness, (Ahmed,
Latif and Khan, 2013). I would want to keep her comfortable and in as little pain as possible. I
would also want to try to educate her as to when to push for pain medications from her PCA
pump. If there were any family I would want to try to get them involved with the education as
well. The use of an incentive spirometer should be included in the teaching too. I would keep
monitoring the incision site and watching for signs that the patient is in pain. While I was
working on patient education with this patient, I would ask the CAN to do vitals on the 2 postop
patients every 15 minutes for the first hour, reporting abnormal vital signs to myself or the other
R.N. I would also ask the other R.N. if she/ he would do the discharge for that patient, while I
remain with this patient and make sure she is going to stay stable.

Peter Unger s Argument For Skepticism
Do you ever wonder if you know anything for certain? For example, have you ever wondered
whether you are truly alive or if life is only a dream one simply cannot wake up from? In his
argument for skepticism, Peter Unger, states that nobody ever knows anything to be so (Unger, Pg.
42). According to Unger s argument one simply cannot know anything about anything. One cannot
know oneself, the world, or others. One does not know pain nor pleasure. One simply does not
know anything. Through the use of different methods, however, one can indeed know things about
oneself, the world, and others in contrast to what Peter Unger s argument for skepticism states.
In order to understand Unger s argument for skepticism and why it can t be an accepted argument,
one must first understand what the argument he is trying to pose is, his reason for posing such an
argument, and what knowledge and skepticism are. According to the justified true belief,
knowledge is something one believes, is true, and one can be justified in believing it (Class Notes).
There are two types of skepticism: extreme skepticism and external world skepticism. Extreme
skepticism is the view that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that one has two arms, two eyes, a nose, a mouth, etc. One can also hear oneself when talking and

can also feel pain when one breaks a bone or when one is heartbroken. Similarly one can know
love and hate, happiness and sadness, and hope and disbelief. Another method one can know things
about themselves is through skill knowledge. For example, one can say that one knows how to play
an instrument. One can and should know things about oneself in order to have individualism and

Cigarettes don t only cause lung cancers but can also cause other problems to the heart and
blood vessels. Some other cancers associated with smoking include larynx, esophagus, bladder,
kidney, pancreas, stomach, and some other organs. Smoking also causes some serious
respiratory diseases. Emphysema is a disease that robs a person of their ability to breathe. This
disease is terminal and it kills you. It destroys a little bit of your lungs at a time so you don t
even realize there is problem. Patients who have emphysema can survive for many years with
the help of oxygen tanks and special breathing exercises. Everyday activities, like shopping,
cleaning, or exercising are some things that you can t do in the later stages of emphysema.
Elaine Landau says in her book Cigarettes that one cigarette lessens a smokers life by 7 minutes.
Overall smoking is very dangerous a deadly it causes over 300,000 deaths a year in the United
States. So if you re ever offered one just remember how dangerous it is even if it only lessens
your life by 7 minutes. However you don t have to smoke to be harmed by cigarette. This leads us
to the effects of secondhand smoke. Inhaling smoke from others is called passive smoking. There
two kinds of secondhand smoke, mainstream and sidestream smoke. Sidestream makes up 80
percent of secondhand smoke and mainstream 20 percent. Sidestream is the more dangerous of the
two because it has higher concentrations of poisons than

Critical Study of Animal Attacks and Government Policy
Jungles are calling: Critical Study of animal attacks and government policy
We are fond of progress, mines, speedy trains, luxurious homes, and of smooth roads and at the
same time we want a peace of mind where we can take a rest for few days in the jungles or in
remote area from the chaotic and tensed urban life. That clearly shows human being has fond of
development as well as environment. Over to the time this fact is accepted that sustainable
development and protection of environment are two side of one coin. Recent incidents shows that
supporters of both the side are conflicting with each other like these are enemies of each other s.
Recent statistics from Maharashtra shows that compensation amount which is given to the victims
of the animal attack is too high and that can be wisely and effectively invested into the
precautionary measures and for the rehabilitation of the animals. Many animals like elephants,
tigers, peacock etc. are getting unnatural death because of trains in many areas of country. We are
using the jungles to build dams, railway tracks and many things which are for the development of
the human fraternity, but at the same time we are not thoughtful about water places, ways of the
animals and which are resulted into the attack of the animals on people. Even then no one is
serious about preserving jungles. Indian railway has planned to cut down 2800 Km forest for the
widening the railway line in country and the same proposal is pending in the front

Argumerical Analysis Of AARP By Morgan Freeman
Purpose This essay will be examining the AARP magazine subscription (American Association
of retired peoples) in order to find who the targeted audience is through the analysis of
advertisement data. The AARP is a magazine titled with big bold red letters on the front page.
The person sitting front and center of the front page is a well known older actor named Morgan
Freeman. The front cover seemed specific in its target with an older crowd, but it s possible that
the demographics drinks alcohol. This is because Morgan Freeman has a glass with what seems to
be whiskey with ice. The next biggest text on the page reads Morgan Freeman In His Prime: A
Legendary Life and Career in Photos . Morgan Freeman is an older black male that is more so
associated with the idea that this is what is a good idea of what life should be like in a persons

age of fifty to qualify for a subscription to the magazine. The front page has another article saying,
50 Ways to Shop Smart and Save Big . Saving money makes me guess that these people might
have money but not all the money in the world therefore middle class. Another article titled
Cruise America! Must Book Now Excursions , this article that includes cruise trips seemed
significant knowing that most of the passengers on cruise trips were older people in retirement,
or middle classed income. Its seems surely the target audience would be older men. The
demographic also would be older people with kids that are grown up and don t live in the house.

Digitally Tracking and Monitoring People
We are being digitally tracked and monitored today more than ever before. In Minneapolis, a
father walked into Target and demanded to see the manager. He had discovered that her daughter
had been receiving coupons for baby clothes and cribs, and accused the manager at Target of
encouraging his daughter to get pregnant. A few days later the manager called to apologize, but it
was the father who apologized, as he had found out that his daughter was actually pregnant. Target,
with the use of prediction models, formulas and collected data from the girl s past purchases,
knew that the girl was pregnant before her own father did. Technology today is so advanced that
everything we do is collected by computers and processed.
Today stores have infrared cameras to watch your eyes and what you look at in the store,
machines pour coffee when they sense you yawning, and laser based scanners that can tell what
you ate for breakfast are being developed. These sorts of technologies are developed by companies
mostly to make better business decisions and by governments for surveillance, and are being
implemented all everywhere, including the University of Maryland Campus. The university police
are using student s phones as tools of surveillance for emergencies explained Captain Marc
Limansky, former University Police spokesman.

The Wanderer And The Wife s Lament
For the Anglo Saxons, the world was a wind swept place, cold and hostile. Not only did they face
the constant threat of belligerent bands of warriors sweeping across the horizon, but the elements
themselves buffeted their homes and wore away the hulls of their ships. While temporary safety
could be found in the warmth of the mead hall and the companionship of others, the devastation of
war, disease, and time would slowly etch away at even the most stable and peaceful society. This
unease spurred Anglo Saxon poets to write some of their most beautiful, haunting pieces of verse,
like Hrothgar s Sermon from Beowulf and the Elegies. While the poems The Wanderer and The
Wife s Lament chronicle the suffering and eventual demise of the individual, The Ruin describes
the crumbling remains of a once glorious city. Through the extensive use of imagery, compelling
rhythm, and a stately meter, the poet of The Ruin emphasizes the themes of death, decay, and the
inevitable downfall of mighty civilizations messages further underscored by the loss of major
sections of the poem itself. The poet begins with the foundation of the city walls, all that remains of
a mighty structure which had ...seen one kingdom after another / stood in the storm, steep and tall,
then tumbled (The Ruin poet 10b 11). However, the destruction of this city is not due to these many
regimes or human combatants, but by the forces of nature as commanded by wyrd. Significantly,
the poet speckles the text

Esterification Of Its Alcohol And Carboxylic Acid Components
Esterification
Aim
The aim of this practical is to produce the ester, 3 methylbutyl ethanoate (isoamyl acetate) through
esterification of its alcohol and carboxylic acid components. This will require expert understanding
and operation of reflux, isolation and distillation processes.
Procedure
Reflux Assemble apparatus for reflux as shown in figure 1. Begin pre heating mantle. Measure
and add 12mL of butan 1 ol and 9mL of ethanoic acid (glacial acetic acid) into a 50mL boiling flask.
Add boiling chips. Slowly add 1mL of concentrated sulphuric acid. Reflux mixture for 30 40
minutes; ensure smooth boiling. Pour cooled refluxed mixture into a conical flask; apply stopper.
Isolation
Pour cooled mixture into a separating funnel containing 20mL of water. Shake and allow contents
of solution to separate into layers. Determine the aqueous (non organic) layer by observing the
addition of a drop of distilled water. Discard the aqueous layer, retaining the organic layer in the
separating funnel. Add 10mL of sodium carbonate solution, shake gently and allow effervescence
to occur. Discard aqueous layer, wash with 20mL distilled water. Decant organic solution into a
conical flask containing fused calcium chloride. Stopper, swirl and allow to stand for 15 minutes.

Seven Life Management Research Paper
Everyone has weakness and strengths in the seven life management skills. Every year people have
been doing decisions or skills that may affect them tremendously or not at all. Usually, people don t
recognize situation or list the possibilities which will affect them in every way. Others don t even
understand what life managementskills are. They are abilities that you have to learn as you grow
up. Life management skills can be many different things. Some examples are decision making,
organizations and many more. These don t have to be my strengths but can also be my weakness,
that I will work on. The two life management skills that I feel confident best at and positive with is

The most hardest one to work on has to be peer resistance skills. I usually sometimes give up
very easily, for example when I can t get a problem right and I keep trying, I would give up and
guess. I have been working on it about a couple weeks, and it had improved by doing problems
until I know it is right.. I still believe peer resistance skills is my weakness since I usually keep
going back in forth about giving up and not giving up over simple things. Usually when
something very upsetting comes up, I usually get upset a long period of time. Coping skills is
difficult to deal with too but easy to make a solution for. For example, you can knit, read, listen
to music, talk to friends, and etc. These skills are really hard to handle but I think I could make
them into my strengths if I work hard and believe in myself. Strengths and weaknesses can be a
struggle at a period of time. If you only focus on one point of a subject, you might not realize
your other subjects will be weak. Weaknesses can be easily handle but people don t know how to
react. This is where the term, goals can solve for both strengths and weaknesses. For an example,
you could set a goal to work on your communication skills by talking to your classmates or close
friends. It doesn t matter if it s a long term goal or a short term since, you would work hard for one
or more goals you have in mind. The seven life

The Effects Of Dyslexia On Children With Dyslexia
There is no doubt that reading and writing are vital in today s society. Without basic
comprehension skills you simply cannot become educated let alone survive. It was a common
belief that anyone who wanted to read, or to learn to read, would be able to, right? With Dyslexia,
that is not the case. Dyslexia is described as the difficulty to comprehend language through reading
and writing, despite a normal level of intelligence. Dyslexiais not only the most common learning
disability, but is also highly recognized. There are three proposed distinctions within dyslexia that
includes auditory, visual, and attentional. Understanding dyslexia would help the educational
community as long as the medical community. Although the scientific community has extensive
research on Dyslexia, there are still neurological aspects to consider and to learn about. Dyslexia
is a complex disability that has interested physicians for centuries. Students with dyslexia should
not be overlooked and deserve equal opportunities in the classroom. Dyslexia was distinguished in
the late 19th century by an ophthalmologist. He coined the term because a child showed much
impairment while trying to learn to read, even with normal physical and intelligence. It was first
known as congenital word blindness by British physicians. They were confused when a child came
to them and was a very smart among his classmates, yet did not know how to read. It was further
concluded by Castles and Coltheart that there are

Why Building Self Confidence Is Vital
Confidence. Some are born with it, some have to grind for it, and others are unaware on how to
obtain it. It is something either one has or lacks, but can always be accomplished over time. Self
confidence can loosely be defined as the capability of a person to have assurance in his or her
aptitudes and capability. Self confidenceis the key to triumph, or the first step to success and
happiness. Possessing self confidencecan help to give wings to soar and develop a high level of
passion, joy, optimismand understanding within the individual. It gives the credence that one
can challenge the world and pave a path for one s self that will lead them to their visions and
aspirations. This describes exactly why building self confidence is vital and how crucial self
confidence is to one s persona. Joy, courage and self confidence go hand in hand. Courage, in the
present perspective, refers to the capability of being able to have faith despite the opposition or
complications involved. Fear is the primary adversary of self confidence and fulfilment. With
courage, you overcome all limitations and doubts to follow your accomplished targets. This
predictably increases the likelihood of your success. Self confidence and courage give the control to
write one s own destiny. Helen Keller said, Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing
can be done without hope and confidence.
The denotation of confidence is the belief in oneself and one s powers or abilities. Everybody is

  • 2. Human Rhinovirus Essay The Microbe Human Rhinovirus is best known as the common cold. Rhinoviruses are small viruses that are not surrounded by an envelope. These non enveloped viruses contain a single stranded RNA genome within a twenty sided capsid. This icosahedral virus is part of the picornaviridae family, which also includes viruses such as polio and hepatitis A. This pathogen measures to be about 27 nm in diameter. There have been several serotypes that have been identified within the Rhinovirus microbe. These serotypes can be divided into groups, which include: RhV A and RhV B groups, with RhV A2 and RhV C subclasses. These specific groups are organized within their sequence similarity, as well as their cell entry receptors. Unlike other members in the picornaviridae ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is still no known treatment or cure for the human rhinovirus. However, over the counter medications will help ease the symptoms but will not make the virus go away. Some over the counter medications can be the use of antihistamines and nasal decongestants. When a person is infected with the rhinovirus, it is very rare for the person to be hospitalized. However, it to be taken into consideration that persons infected with the rhinovirus infection are contagious and people that are involved with the infected should take the necessary precautions. Persons with rhinovirus infections are almost always treated as outpatients. These outpatients may limit their activity during the course of the infection and symptoms are usually improved within 48 72 hours after the onset of symptoms. The usual course of this specific illness lasts about 6 10 days. After the rhinovirus runs its course, the expected outcome is that the individual should be fully cured, as the human rhinovirus does not typically produce a long term illness. If someone has acquired the virus, it is important for the individual to get lots of rest and drink plenty of fluids. More treatments involving human rhinoviruses include: using alcohol based compounds to disinfect the environment, washing hands, providing comfortable surrounding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Action Potential Analysis In our brain we have neurons that communicate every second of the day with one other through their dendrite and axons. Most of the time incoming signals are received in the dendrites and outgoing signals travel down the axon to the nerve terminal. For the neuron to receive the rapid communication due to the long axon, the neuronsends electrical signals, from the cell s body to the nerve terminal. This process is known as nerve impulses, or action potential. Brain neurons can transmit signals using a flow of sodium(Na+) and potassium (K+) ions, that produces an electrical spike called an action potential (AP) (Forrest, 2014, P. 1). Action potential is essentially a slight reversal of electric polarity across the membrane. When an action potential takes place, the sodium potassium pump resets the way sodium and potassium ions were back to their original positions. The sodium potassium does this to the neuron so when it is then ready to relay another action potential, it will pump when called upon to do so. The Na+/K+ pump has a housekeeping role rather than a direct role in brain signaling (Forrest, 2014, P. 1). For an action potential to be generated the membrane voltage must be strong enough to bring the membrane voltage to a critical value called the threshold.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the action potential is near its peak, sodium channels begin to close which then allows the potassium channels to fully open. Potassium ions rush out of the cell and the voltage quickly returns to its original resting state. This corresponds to the falling phase of the action potential. Sodium and potassium at this point have switched places across the membrane and the resting membrane potential is then slowly restored due to diffusion and the sodium potassium pump. Without the process of the sodium potassium pump and the action potential, our nerve cells will not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the more interesting sources came from: The better Bladder Book What s Bugging your Bladder by Wendy Cohan. The chapter pg 96, discusses the role of food sensitivity in IC. It argues that food sensitivities play a huge role in causing or worsening bladder symptoms and can also contribute to harmful inflammation throughout the body. A lot of this relates to the types of foods we eat
  • 5. and how our bodies process those foods. In my own experience in trying to find the right treatment options, diet was one of the first that I had to change. Things that are high in acid like tomatoes could cause a painful flare up that could last from hours to days, or even months, so eliminating this from my diet was one way to eliminate another painful flare. This book was written with a copyright date of 2011, and since then, no changes have been made to IC Diet that I could find in any of my sources. • 9. Athens And Rome Vs. Rome #2Athens and Rome are two separate paradigms; they both had a certain standard to a way of life. Athens was civic and Rome was technocratic towards their people. Meaning that Athens was people based which gave the public responsibility to how they wanted to live because they had a voice. They also had customs that connected them as people, like social gatherings. Rome on the other hand was technology based which was more about how to make money or spend money to fix a problem. If these two civilizations were given a problem they would have different solutions because of their way of thinking. If they had a transportation problem for instance in the 21 century, one would look at it in an emotional human way and the other would look at it in an economical way. The Greeks could asks the people to maybe car pool and have an economic incentive, so people will want to do this to decrease traffic jams. In a sense you could peer pressure some one for a good cause to show that this is what you should be doing and if you don t you will feel shame from not carpooling. Every one is doing it is now giving a positive for the community and solving a problem with out spending money. Where the Romans solution is to look at the town or cityand to just build more roads. • 10. The Sociological Imagination, By Martin Luther King Martin Luther King wrote the following in a campus newspaper, the Maroon Tiger 1947, It seems to me that education has a two fold function in the life of man and in society: the one is utility and the other is culture (King, 1947). This essay will analyse via the sociological imagination, whose interests does schooling serve and why? In addressing this question, one needs to discuss why is an education so valued in Australia today. Education has had three phases of development according, to Van Krieken, 2013. Each phase being associated with a set of beliefs about the nature and purpose of education. Firstly, the advent of the modern system from the mid 19th century to World War II, influenced chiefly by liberal humanist ideas. Secondly, post World War II expansion into the late 1970 s was influenced by social democratic beliefs. Finally, the increased marketisation of education which has been influenced by neoliberalism since the 1980 s (Krieken, 2013, p. 149). In Australia, post World War II the federal government began to take an increasing role over the states in education, as states were finding it increasingly difficult to fund higher education due in part to the baby boom post World War II and the requirement for more university trained teachers and by the late 1950 s. Furthermore, politically, grouwing desire among politicians to enable more potential students to enroll in higher education(Krieken, 2013, p. 150). Moving forward in time, a series of government ... • 11. Comparison Of The Three Cabritos And The Three Billy Goats... The Three Cabritos is the retelling of The Three Billy Goats Gruff with a Tex Mex background unlike the contrary which have more of an American culture background. The author clearly states at the end of her book, The Three Cabritos is my own original retelling of The Three Billy Goats Gruff with a Texas twist (Kimmel 29). The background and the writing of the tale but told in different cultures. In The Three Cabritos and The Three Billy Goats Gruff, the main characters appearances are distinct, but the story follows the same plot line. The main characters appearances being distinct but the same story also has a couple dissimilarities. One of the main differences between the two stories is that the monster in The Three Cabritos is a Cupacabra whereas the monster in The Three Billy GoatsGruff is a goblin. By changing the monster the author incorporates the Tex Mex culture into the story. Additionally, the cultural backgrounds are extremely different for example, The Three Cabritos the scene is a ranch located near the Rio Grande filled with cactus. Also in the sketches, the goats are cartoon farm animals and the cabritos are dressed in overalls while holding their instruments. In The Three Cabritos the cabritos are given typical Hispanic culture names: Reynaldo, Orlando, and Augustin. The purpose for the cabritos to cross the bridge is also a difference between the two stories. In The Three Cabritos the reason they crossed was to attend a fiesta. The story goes One day the three cabritos heard there was going to be a fiesta just across the border in Mexico. Lets Go! The three cabritos said (Kimmel 3). They want to go the fiesta to dance and play all night. In The Three Billy Goats Gruff takes place on a field of trees and flowers that surround a meadow. In The Three Billy Goats Gruff exact names are not given, just Little Billy GoatGruff, Middle Billy Goat Gruff, and Great Big Billy Goat Gruff. The reason for crossing the bridge was, that they were eating all the grass on their side and they needed more. The story reads, Yes , said his big brother, Great Big Billy Goat Gruff. Histogram 1 II.Stationarity of Microsoft daily stock prices and daily returns As the stationarity of stock prices can strongly influences its behavior and properties and the use of non stationary data can lead to spurious regressions, thus test of stationarity is more than necessary in research of daily stock prices. I applied Augmented Dickey Fuller test here to check for unit root. The results for the daily stock prices appear as in Table 1. Table 1 The value of the test statistic and the relevant critical values given the type of test equation and sample size, are given in the first panel of the output above. Clearly, the test statistic is 1.261047 that is not more negative than the critical value, so the null hypothesis of a unit root in the stock price series cannot be rejected. Since one of the independent variables in this regression is non stationary, it is not appropriate to examine the coefficient standard errors or their t ratios in the test regression. Now repeat all of the test for first difference of the daily stock prices. The output appear as in the following Table 2. The authors of the three texts all share a similar attitude towards the consequences of work, which is that it can be detrimental to one s physical and mental wellbeing. Author of text One The Secretary Chant, Marge Piercy describes the stressful life of a secretary and how the accumulation of stressful events leads to the secretary feeling mechanical and dehumanised. Piercy implies that, with overwork, people can begin to lose a sense of who they are. The use of the verb, hang, and the noun, chains, acts as a possible allusion to other historical events of oppression such as slavery. Such vocabulary choices emphasise the way in which the secretary feels trapped and objectified in her own work environment. The secretary feels trapped because of the way that she has been objectified, which suggests that she is only valued for her ability to work like other office equipment, evident in line 1 where she states, my hips are a desk. The mechanical way that the secretary is employed establishes how she no longer feels as though she is a human. Instead, she is simply part of the office and the repetitive onomatopoeic, buzz, and, clicks, that define workplace environments. This is supported by line 21, where the persona states, file me under W because I wonce was a woman. • 19. Neural Modeling Researchers in the field of neuroscience have long disputed the type of neural modelling that allows for the processing of visual stimuli in the brain. I believe that a hierarchical framework exists in which both distributed and localised modelling can occur at different stages. Distributed modelling occurs at lower hierarchal levels and localised modelling, characterised by grandmother cells, occurs at higher levels. Neurons in higher levels pool information passed on from lower levels to so that the representation of concepts becomes more complex and specialised. It is through this formation of grandmother cells that a visual stimulus can be represented in the brainin an invariant manner. Research on the processing of visual stimuli have lead to findings that supports the notion of hierarchal modelling in the brain. Almost everyone can remember some aspect of his or her childhood experiences, pleasant and unpleasant alike. Theodore Roethke s poem My Papa s Waltz suggests even further that this concept could be true. The dance described in this poem illustrates an interaction between father and child that contains more than the expected joyous, loving attitude between the two characters. Roethke s tone in this work exhibits the blended, yet powerful emotions that he, as a grown man, feels when looking back on this childhood experience. This stanza also provides the reader with the feeling of how aggressive this dance may be. Roethke is apparently referring to his father s belt buckle in the last line of the third stanza. During an aggressive act such as this, a small child would experience pain from such a man s belt buckle scraping across his ear in this fashion, yet the child refrains from any type of resistance. Perhaps this is caused by the child s fear that his father will become angry, so the child simply endures the pain and tries to enjoy the moment, for he may also feel love and attention that he may not receive regularly from his father. Bridges 3 John J. McKenna offers us further suggestions about the feelings suggested in this poem. In McKenna s article, two of the holograph manuscripts to My Papa s Waltz are discussed. McKenna implies that the changes made between these manuscripts are further evidence that this poem shows mixed emotions through the tone that Roethke utilizes. These holograph manuscripts are labeled MS A and MS B at the University of Washington where they are contained in the archives. The first of these changes discussed in McKenna s article is the gender of the child in the poem. He discusses how Roethke seemed to argue with himself about what the sex of the child should be, but finally chooses male for a few different reasons. Two different approaches represent knowledge in expert systems. One is based on production rules (IF THEN), which are applied to the knowledge base in an orderly manner to produce the solution to a diagnostic problem [3]. The second approach is based on nodal networks of disease features linked together in a variety of patterns against which the new patient s features are compared by pattern matching. Some recent systems combine features of both approaches. A second generation of expert systems now make use of networks where causal pathophysiological information is embodied. This latter type provides particularly complex explanatory feedback [9]. • 32. Ecological Succession Essay 1. Explain the process of ecological succession, including the role of plants in maintaining biodiversity and the survival of organisms after a disturbance to an ecosystem. Ecological succession allows a biological community to evolve over time (2). This succession is divided into two distinct sections: primary and secondary succession. Primary succession allows life to form in regions with soil incapable of sustaining larger plants and by extension, larger animals (2). Secondary succession occurs in areas where a community used to exist, but was removed; leaving behind soil capable of sustaining life (2). This process allows bare rock to transform into a hillside or a forest to recover after a fire and is extremely important to ecosystems.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (15 points) The main evidence of chemical change in this lab is the change in color, production of gas, and the production of precipitate. These reactions can be seen from just a little bit of reaction all the way up to a complete change of the entire sample tested. Some samples of those tested in this experiment which showed the chemical reaction were the baking soda/ammonia mixture, the Epson salt and baking soda mixture as well as the food coloring mixed with the baking soda and bleach. 2.Which reactions, if any, do you believe showed no evidence of chemical change? This alternate reality, separate from the conscious world we see around us, has captured the interest of many people throughout history. He stated that each individual s dreams were unique and were products of his own mind. Socrates and Plato followed where Heraclitus left off, corroborating his theory with their own research. Finally it was Aristotle who completely dispelled the notion that dreams were attempts at divine communication. His practical approach to dream research paved the way for future scholars such as Freud and Jung. Aristotle stated that dreams were most often fragments of the days events, and could sometimes provide insight into one s personal problems. (Parker 10 15) In 1899, more than two thousand years after Aristotle, Sigmund Freud published The Interpretation of Dreams and modern dream psychology was born (Fontana 26). Freud looked down on other methods of dream interpretation because they were too rigid. Psychologists would create lists of dream symbols along with their meaning so that they could quickly look up the meaning of a dream. Freud believed that each person associated dream symbols with different things. For example, a ship going through a storm could represent a difficult time at work for one person, but it could represent a health problem for someone else. By recognizing that each drifter is varies by sizes, the wind that blows upon the drifter, the deflection angle of the drifter can contribute heavily to where it possibly can end up or the amount of time it will require for the drifter to land. The hockey glove spill in 1994 is a great example of why wind factors and deflection angle matters. OSCURS can only be so accurate when the programs runs on the controllable data such as weather, direction of currents, and locations of spillage, but uncontrollable factors like wind and the drifter floating angles can create small differences in the calculation that leads to errors as well. Because of the glove floatation with fingers floating upward, they travel 20 percent quicker than flotsams like shoes or sneakers, as well as left or right sided gloves can drift separately on different currents, ending up on different locations. Not only did they face the constant threat of belligerent bands of warriors sweeping across the horizon, but the elements themselves buffeted their homes and wore away the hulls of their ships. While temporary safety could be found in the warmth of the mead hall and the companionship of others, the devastation of war, disease, and time would slowly etch away at even the most stable and peaceful society. This unease spurred Anglo Saxon poets to write some of their most beautiful, haunting pieces of verse, like Hrothgar s Sermon from Beowulf and the Elegies. While the poems The Wanderer and The Wife s Lament chronicle the suffering and eventual demise of the individual, The Ruin describes the crumbling remains of a once glorious city. Through the extensive use of imagery, compelling rhythm, and a stately meter, the poet of The Ruin emphasizes the themes of death, decay, and the inevitable downfall of mighty civilizations messages further underscored by the loss of major sections of the poem itself.
