2. SPACING OUT
This means that when people are talking you are not listening because you are “lost
in thought” which means that you are thinking really hard and not paying attention to
the real world.
Anime character lost in thought.
3. PRETEND LISTENING
This is when someone is talking to you but you are doing homework, reading,
coloring, or watching TV. When you are pretend listening you don’t quite hear the
person but you say simple answers like, yeah, cool, nice, things like that.
4. SELECTIVE LISTENING
This means that you are listening to a conversation but you only really pay
attention to the parts that you are interested in.
The guy is forcing himself to listen to the Conversation.
5. WORD LISTENING
This means that you pay attention to the conversation but you only listen to the
words. You don’t notice their body language or facial expression.
6. SELF-CENTERED LISTENING
This means that we see stuff from our own point of view. Judging: This means that
we choose what someone is like without them telling us. Advising: This means that
you don’t listen to peoples problems you only tell them what you do. Probing: This
means that you try to dig up emotions before people are ready to share them.
