The Safety Of Military Equipment
Aircraft Loadmaster Many people wonder how military vehicles, cargo, people, and other military
equipment ever made it from one place to another without being seen and how this action is pulled off
so smoothly. If people only knew more about the military, they would be wonderless. The transporting
of military equipment is so unique and detailing that if you re not precise even the smallest mistake
can ruin the entire operation. The loading of the planes are varied depending on the cargo, but wait a
second who loads the planes? This is the job of an Aircraft Loadmaster. They perform multiple
procedures which ensure that the planes are loaded properly so that the passengers make it to their
destination safely, develop a positive outcome from loading an aircraft by taking the procedures
extremely cautiously, and making history. Procedures such as recording the weight of cargo,
determines the amount of cargo and passengers or troops to be loaded and proper placement in aircraft
and computes load and cargo distribution are few of the many essentials of being Air Loadmaster.
First off by pursuing this career you would need a minimum of a high school diploma or a GED with

The Movement Of Indi The Struggle Of The Power Left A...
Many of these challenges stemmed from Prabhupada s death in 1977, which left a young ISKCON
shaken . Although the movement was growing rapidly, it still relied heavily on the charismatic
authority of Prabhupada, and his death created deep uncertainties within the organization s leadership.
As the organization scrambled to fill the void in institutional power left by its founder, there was a
significant movement of Indians into local positions of power, which had a [stabilizing influence on]
many of the temple level conflicts and also encouraged a greater degree of Indian participation . As
Indian Americans continued to take on leadership roles in ISKCON, they began to draw spiritual
legitimacy and authenticity from their status as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before this period, Prabhupada distanced himself from traditional Hinduism and publicly stated that
his movement was not Hindu: I don t want a Hindu temple. Our constitution is different. We want
everyone . However, the movement was forced to abandon this conviction as anti cult sentiment grew
in the 1970s. By the middle of the decade, ISKCON fell under intense scrutiny by the media and
government officials. In order to protect the movement against accusations of being a dangerous cult,
the leadership asked ISKCON s Indian supporters to speak to the movement s authenticity as a
traditional Hindu religious group . This testimony was successful in alleviating public fears and
allowed ISKCON to escape government sanctions. Without the leadership and support of Indian
immigrants, ISKCON would have been far less prepared to survive the death of its founder in 1977
and the subsequent financial and legal issues that plagued the movement in the 1980s.
III. Hippies and Immigrants: Comparative Perspectives
Two major groups have historically populated the membership of ISKCON: first, the rebellious youth
of the American counterculture, and second, the Indian immigrant community that exploded in the
wake of 1960s immigration reform. While Indian American devotees currently represent a large
proportion of ISKCON s following, their circumstances appear to differ dramatically from those of the
counterculture s hippies.

Smallpox Discrimination
Diseases never discriminate. Nearly every problem availing mankind concerns a specific social class,
a specific religious sect, or a specific economic bracket. But diseases never discriminate. Diseases are
unique in the sense that they can bring the richest, most powerful men to their knees. For example, the
thirty second President of the United States, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, most famously suffered from
poliomyelitis (more commonly known as polio ) while in office,[1] and technological billionaire Steve
Jobs tragically lost a seven year battle with a rare form of pancreatic cancer.[2]
Smallpox, which was once the most feared disease known by mankind started out in the days of
Christopher Columbus. The disease set out to change the lives of the people in the worse way. It
became known as an epidemic disease that ended up killing hundreds of people. Small pox started out
in Hispaniola and because of no cure, it traveled to the island of ... Show more content on

These samples, as well as stockpiles of the smallpox vaccine, are stored because some level of
concern exists that another poxvirus could undergo genetic changes (mutate) and cause human
infection. There is also the remote chance that smallpox virus could somehow escape from the
laboratories where it is stored. For these reasons, surveillance continues of various animal groups that
continue to be infected with viruses related to the variola virus, and large quantities of vaccine are
stored in different countries around the world, so that response to any future threat by the smallpox
virus could be prompt.
Of greatest concern is the potential use of smallpox as a biological weapon. The United States and
Russia are the only two countries to officially house remaining samples of the

The Work Of Brameld, Horton, And Freire
Names associated with Social Reconstructionism include, among others, Theodore Brameld, Myles
Horton, Morris R. Mitchel, William O. Stanley, Paulo Freire, Ismail Hakki Tonguch, Neil Postman,
and Charles Weingartner. Each of these educational philosophers have greatly shaped the
reconstruction ideologies; however, for the purpose of this paper, it was considered to analyze the
work of Brameld, Horton, and Freire. Theodore Brameld (1904 1987) is considered to be the founder
of the social reconstruction movement. The Brameld s ideas to understand human condition were
nurtured by thinkers such as Freud and Marx, as well as by sociologists such as W. L. Warner
(Thomas, 1999). Brameld s ideologies were conceived through a curriculum experiment conducted in
a rural high school in Minnesota during 1944 to 1945 (Stone, 1995). In this experiment, called the
Floodwood Project, Brameld cooperatively participated with this high school s students and teachers
to answer this question: What kind of a society do we, as young citizens, want to build for tomorrow .
The students, who participated in this study, drew characteristics of an ideal society by working from
their expectations and experiences about what a good society should provide. Brameld developed
during the next two decades the outcomes in sight of: 1) determine values through an inductive
approach, 2) social policy could be understood under the consensus of the learning group, 3)

A recent example of something that Fischer has publicized about is Russia s role in Syria. The United
States involvement in the Middle East is not something that we can mess with, so it is a very serious
topic. This article discusses Russia s role in Syria and what Fischer thinks about their involvement.
Not wanting a world war to break out, Fischer is concerned that Russia is gaining leadership in an area
that they should not be. Instead the American leadership needs to step up because we can better the
Syria situation. As quoted in the article Lack of American leadership (has opened) a vacuum that is
being filled by a country that should not be a leader in that area. (Walton) I am not a person that likes

Appellate Legal Case Analysis
Malcolm Gladwell once stated, ten thousand hours of deliberate practice are needed to become world
class in any field (Gladwell). In other words, Malcolm believed that an individual who dedicated
thousands of hours to a specific occupation would manifest success. Similarly, this ten thousand hour
rule could apply to a certified specialist in appellate law because anyone able to meet the challenge
and educational requirements to become a certified appellate specialist would have spent at least ten
thousand hours practicing in this specific field. According to John Derrick who is a certified specialist
himself stated, Out of approximately 222,000 licensed lawyers in California, about 250 have this

Essay about Comparing In Our World and the World of The...
Parallels In Our World and the World of The Giver
The story in The Giver by Lois Lowry takes place in a community that is not normal. People cannot
see color, it is an offense for somebody to touch others, and the community assigns people jobs and
children. This unnamed community shown through Jonas eye, the main character in this novel, is a
perfect society. There is no war, crime, and hunger. Most readers might take it for granted that the
community in The Giver differs from the real society. However, there are several affinities between
the society in present day and that in this fiction: estrangement of elderly people, suffering of
surrogate mothers, and wanting of euthanasia.
The first similarity is that elderly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That job has very little honor in this community. Three years, Three births and that s all. After that
they are Laborers for the rest of their adult lives, until the day that they enter the House of the Old...
The Birthmothers never even get to see new children (p. 22). Today, some women decide to become
surrogate mothers of other women s babies because of several reasons, such as sympathy for the
couples who cannot have children of their own or financial reason. However, to carry other women s
children gives surrogate moms great senses of responsibility. They writhe in not only soreness of
body, but also agony of mentality. The psychological pain by giving their babies to other women is
greater than that of body. Thus, some surrogate mothers refuse to give up their babies sometimes.
The third similarity is that some people want to embrace euthanasia in any society. Here is the release
in the community. The release is not a natural death, but the end of life by human being. Nevertheless,
some people want to be released from the community. He made a lovely good bye speech... He was

Identity And Identity In Persepolis By Marjane Satrapi
The graphic novel Persepolis, written by Marjane Satrapi, is an autobiographical depiction of her life
in Iran during and after the period of the 1979 Iranian revolution and the Iran Iraq war. It reveals how
Marjane s persona becomes increasingly aware of the cultural and religious influences that surround
her. The conflict between pre revolutionary secular Iranian Western ideals and the post revolutionary
Muslim beliefs affects the formation of her personal identity. Her struggle is portrayed through a
young Iranian woman s identity, where her ten year old self is seen talking to God about her numerous
troubles. She portrays herself as wanting to be normal in a country where posters and designer clothes

11, at the the end of the first volume, the vast spaces between Marjane and her parents imply a
transitional space, representing mobility, and displacement. Marjane leaves behind Iran and her family,
establishing a prolepsis through revealing foreknowledge about her future in Austria. She finds herself
lost, in in between the space, separated from her by the glass of the departure gate. The look back in
the airport scene can also be interpreted as metalanguage as the novel is, by itself, a narrative mirror of
the past viewed upon from the present, physically expressed through the form of glass mirrors. When
Marjane looks for the last time to her parents, she is looking to her personal and cultural identity in her
country, leaving them behind to live in Vienna. This image links to the last image of the second
volume, painting a visual echo through the novel, as the ending panel in volume one serves as a mirror
to the final panel in volume two. A lot of the same graphical aspects in volume 2 are present in Fig.
12, such as the presence of the glass panel in the background and the physical separation between
Marjane in the background, and her parents in the foreground. The mood of the picture is much more
optimistic, with Marjane positioned higher up than in Fig. 11, foreboding Marjane s confidence in her
personal identity as she returns to

The History of Special Education in the Twentith Century...
The History of Special Education in the Twentith Century
During the twentieth century, drastic changes were made to vastly improve the special education
system to ensure that all students, regardless of their ability, were given equal rights according to the
Constitution of the United States. During early colonial America, schooling was not mandatory and it
was primarily given to the wealthy Anglo Saxon children (Carlson, p230). Children were mainly
taught in the home or in a single room schoolhouse. Therefore, children of limited mental capability
were not likely to be schooled. Also, in a non graded schoolhouse, children of differing abilities did
not pose problems. With the beginning of mandatory education in 1852 ... Show more content on

In these special classrooms, a specially trained teacher would provide the instruction. As ideal as this
might sound, it is hardly what did occur. The optimism of the educators to successfully teach the
disabled students faded during the 1930 s and the 1940 s. Special education classes were held under
horrible conditions. The rooms were insufficient, with limited resources, the teachers were poorly
trained and the curriculum was inadequate. Schools also often classified students as having disabilities
when they did not. Additionally, students were often labeled with one type disability when they had
another. This practice (misclassification) (Turnbull et al p16) was a common discrimination in
American schools. One might wonder why the conditions were so deplorable. Why were the teachers
so terribly unqualified? It appears that the common perception of the disabled students was like that of
Quasimodo, in Victor Hugo s The Hunchback of Notre Dame. They were misunderstood, and
considered to be monstrous something to be hidden away, shunned and rejected by normal people. The
public s attitude with disabled children was one of fear, as if the disability was somehow contagious.
They were looked upon as crazy people. This general outlook set the standard for educating students
with special needs. They were classified as inferior, so why should the school system bother to work
with the retards ? The mind set was that these students

Kwame Anthony Appiah Cosmopolitanism
Utilizing a wide variety of subjects, including literature, history, and philosophy as well as his own
personal experiences, Kwame Anthony Appiah through his novel Cosmopolitanism: Ethics in a World
of Strangers, seeks to explain the similarities and differences of the people that inhabit the world.
Prehistoric hunters and gatherers formed close knit communities which were founded upon survival,
humanity, in turn, was shaped by those experiences. Centuries later, those close knit communities have
expanded into kingdoms, cities, nation states, and world order. Appiah states that, cosmopolitanism
begins with the simple idea that in the human community, as in national communities, we need to
develop habits of coexistence: conversation in its older meaning, of living together, association
(Appiah, xix). Here, Appiah reminds humans that we have been living beside each other since the
beginning of time. However, even though the world is expanding; it is also shrinking, metaphorically,
as a consequence of globalization. Individuals only in the past couple of centuries have had the ability
to affect each other indirectly through shared resources and common enemies. Neither nationality,
gender, nor state boundaries, have moral status with respect to questions of justice. Despite the reasons
to value our relationships with our local citizens these reasons do not justify inequalities in the well
being of people inhabiting different geographical territories.

The Country Of Nicaragua And The Center Of Central America
The country of Nicaragua, located in the center of Central America, is one the poorest nations in Latin
America. Nicaragua s citizens are primarily mestizo who account for almost 70% of the population.
With a population of nearly six million, 58.8% of Nicaraguans live in urban areas, with nearly 2% of
citizens migrating from rural areas to the cities in search of jobs and better welfare. However, internal
migration to rural areas also exist seasonally for agricultural labor. Due to the current economic
standing of the nation, Nicaragua s current population growth rests at 1%, while losing 3 out of 1,000
citizens due to emigration. While the nation has seen small growth in its GDP at a 4.5% growth rate,
many Nicaraguans continue to migrate out of the nation. In 2009, is was estimated that 42.5% of
Nicaraguans lived below the poverty line, with the lowest 10% of citizens sharing 1.4% in household
income. In 2008, it was recorded that underemployment rate was at 46.5% (CIA Factbook). When
looking at the statistics and numbers for this nation, it is easy to understand the reasoning for many
Nicaraguans emigrating out of their country. With such a high percentage of Nicaraguans living under
the poverty line, many of them have chosen to leave the country. A majority Central American
immigrants decide to migrate outside of the region. In a 2006 article by Mahler and Ugrina, they noted

Double Strand Breaks In Dna Essay
Abstract:
Double strand breaks in DNA (DSB) constitute one of the greatest threats to cell viability. In
eukaryotes DSBs are mainly repaired thanks to the process called Non homologous end joining
(NHEJ), and consists of the direct ligation of the generated ends after the break without the need for a
template . The objective of this paper is to discuss the different mechanisms available to correct DSBs
in DNA. The components that participate in these repair mechanisms play a fundamental role in
maintaining genomic stability (Specially in NHEJ). Furthermore, these mechanisms participate in
programmed DNA breaks that mediates biological processes such as V(D)J recombination. During
NHEJ the Ku protein binds to the generated ends and lays ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But the intracellular environment offers other dangers to DNA integrity. The largest of these is
oxidation, which in the long run produces more damage than any of the above processes. The
reactions that take place in the mitochondria generate, as oxygen is reduced to water, a series of highly
reactive intermediates. These are reactive oxygen species (ROS): superoxide ion, hydrogen peroxide
and hydroxyl radical (De Bont R, 2004). These species can leave the mitochondria and oxidize the
DNA bases. As a consequence, single strand DNA (ssDNA) ruptures, double strand breaks (DSB) are
generated, and loss of bases or covalent DNA protein bonds can occur.
Despite its potential dangers to the genome, evolution has created differentiation and development
processes using DSB as intermediates of its recombination reactions. Thus DSBs are generated to
enable recombination between homologous chromosomes during meiosis or as intermediates during
somatic (or V (D) J recombination) and recombination of class switch recombination (CSR) in
lymphocytes (Tonegawa, et al. 1987). At the beginning of meiosis, each chromosome recognizes its
homologue and is placed side by side along the whole length. This arrangement allows the exchange
of DNA between homologous sequences and thus increases the genetic diversity of the gametes.
During the V (D) J and CSR processes ruptures are introduced in a controlled

Parallelism In Patrick Henry s Speech To The Virginia...
The prominent patriot Patrick Henry once said, I know not what course others may take; but as for me,
give me liberty or give me death! (Henry 7) implying that a life without liberty is not a righteous life.
Henry s quote is included in his popular oratory, Speech to the Virginia Convention , in which he
discusses with the colonists who were under the tyrannical reign of the Crown. Throughout his speech,
Henry lists all of the discrepancies the thirteen colonies had with Great Britain, concluding that there
is no other option, but to retaliate instantaneous. In Patrick Henry s Speech to the Virginia Convention,
he utilizes amplifying loaded words and coherent parallelism in order to influence the assembly to
unify and reciprocate.
Throughout the entirety of his speech, Henry presents amplifying loaded words to bring to attention
the predicament between the two opposing sides. Loaded words are terms of influence by employing
positive or negative connotations. For example, Henry claims in paragraph five, We have petitioned;
we have remonstrated; we have supplicated... (Henry 5). He particularly targets the verb of the
sentences by altering their meaning, to add a kick to the phrase. Rather than state, We have asked; we
have protested, we have begged, Henry offers more potent terms, such as petitioned, remonstrated and
supplicated, to emphasize how perilous the situation between the two countries is, compelling them to
take action. He continues to underline

Thomas Jefferson Accomplishments
The outcomes of the Revolutionary war paved the way towards an expansion of territory sought out to
respect civil liberties by outlawing slavery , reforming the education platform and is considered one of
the most important legislative acts of the confederation congress. Thomas Jefferson was a key player
as he created a vision with an empire based on principles novel at the time. On July 13, 1787 the
Northwest Ordinance came into place, a new legislation which expanded the original 13 states
westward not only acquiring land, but provided a framework for educational organization and political
incorporation in the new territories. All it took was a proposition, an idea by a Virginia delegate by the
name of Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13, 1743 in Shadwell, Virginia into a
wealthy and distinguished family. Jefferson served his country for over five decades, he was a public
official, philosopher, historian and even a plantation owner. His interests in law led him to serve the
local government as a magistrate, county lieutenant and as a member of the House of Burgesses. Some
of Thomas Jefferson s major accomplishments and contributions include , but are not limited to the
Louisiana Purchase in 1803 , his support towards the Lewis and Clark Expedition, abolishing, the
slave trade, his views on what is now called the Northwest Ordinance and of course, his presidency.

urged former team President Edward Bennett Williams to lose the Redskin mascot. These delegations
were ineffective in changing the name. However, they were somewhat affective and resulted in the
lyrics of their fight song changing from Scalp um to Beat em (Shapira, 2016). The controversy died
down until recent years with recent up rise regarding the mascot. The consensual argument of rallying
Native Americans can be summed up by one statement by a respondent regarding the term, ... a racist

Alcibiades Ethical Beliefs
Alcibiades displayed his eagerness to deceive multiple people in order to achieve what was in his self
interest his superiority and well being. He persuaded and encouraged other cities to make walls to the
sea, joining alongside Athens in the pursuit against Sparta.
While Alcibiades sustained an ongoing relationship with the people, it continued as an imbalance.
Alcibiades s lifestyle became public knowledge, and his luxurious behavior was exposed and not
particularly desirable to most Athenians, especially the conservative Athenians. This manifested a
discontent among the people, which only furthered the love hate relationship that Alcibiades had with
the people of Athens. Plutarch wrote,

Alcibiades used every situation to elevate himself and establish superiority, which enhanced the type
of unbalanced relationship he had with the people for most of his lifetime. Alcibiades s unethical
practices in both political and private life were questionable. He sought after pleasures and naturally
deceived many, making him a great politician, but dubious as a virtuous man. Plutarch wrote,
Certainly, if ever man was ruined by his own glory, it was Alcibiades (287). The ambitions and
passions in Alcibiades life that went unchecked resulted in the imbalance in his life both private and
public. Although he befriended Socrates early and strove for true honor and real virtue, the rest of his
life unfolded in a vicious way, rather than influenced by virtue. Alcibiades adapted to both good and
bad, vice and virtue, establishing a strong inconsistency in his morals as well as his character
altogether. The central image of this life was certainly a chameleon. Plutarch wrote, Not that his
natural disposition changed so easily, nor that his real character was so variable, but, whether he was
sensible that by pursuing his own inclinations he might give offense to those with whom he had
occasion to converse, he transformed himself into any shape, and adopted any fashion, that he
observed to be most agreeable (275 276). Alcibiades morphed into whatever it took, whether he was
around different people or aiding another nation, he made sure to adapt to his surroundings that also
helped further his own self interest as well. Earlier in the life, Plutarch wrote that Alcibiades was
neither completely virtuous nor vicious and as the life continued this never became clearer. Alcibiades
always maintained a neutral position in between vice and virtue. Although Socrates attempted to alter
Alcibiades and positively affect his soul, this change never happened, thus resulting

Minnesota Glacier Features
Features Present in Minnesota were Formed by The Wisconsin Glaciation
A glacier is a large mass of ice that flows very slowly. A glacier forms by the compression and/or
crystallization of snow that has stayed in one place year round. Glaciers can be constructive and/or
destructive. Glaciers can be constructive by leaving sediments behind, or destructive by gauging the
earth s surface. Glaciers were once present in Minnesota, thousands of years ago, and as they
retreated, they left behind large amounts of glacial meltwater and various landforms, still present
today. The Wisconsin glaciation started in Minnesota about two million years ago. The parts missed
by the Wisconsin glaciation were the Southwestern and Southeastern corners of Minnesota. There are
four lobes in Minnesota called The Rainy Lobe, The Superior Lobe, The Des Moines Lobe, and The
Wadena Lobe. The Wadena lobe advanced from Northern Minnesota. The Rainy Lobe along with the
Superior Lobe advanced from Northeastern Minnesota. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Learning Experience Reflection
I believe that true learning requires much more than simply listening to a lecture, reading from a book,
or watching a video. While these all may be involved in the process of learning, hands on experience
and a real desire for knowledge of the subject are needed to truly learn.
Whether in the classroom or clinical setting, I believe that the process of learning should not be static,
but rather fluid in the sense that questions should be asked back and forth between educator and
student. A dialogue should be created so that both student and teacher are actively participating in the
learning process. Through this way of learning, one has to actively think and apply the information
they have on a particular subject, instead of just memorizing facts. I have found that this is the best
way for me to truly process and retain information.
In the clinical setting, hands on experience is the key to learning. During my general practice
residency, I was introduced to the see one, do one, teach one concept by a chief oral and maxillofacial
surgery resident who was assisting me with an advanced bone grafting procedure. I really enjoy this
method of learning within the clinical setting, given that one has had sufficient pre clinical education
and training, and that patient care is not being compromised. Observing the procedure being
performed by a superior or a colleague allows for one to see the concepts of pre clinical education
being applied clinically and to ask questions,

Sports And Sports Fanatics
My everyday routine is nothing short of excitement, the thrill I get from my everyday life is seeing
what is going on in the sports realm. Sports controls my everyday activities and makes me who I am. I
have an extreme passion and love for almost every sport known to mankind. I am a hard core typical
sports fanatic in today s world. The first reason is sports controls how I act and talk. Secondly, I spend
an excessive amount of time consuming sports activities. Perhaps the trait the plays the biggest role in
making me such a huge fanatic is the amount of money I put into sports. First off, my vocabulary and
the way I talk is often controlled by sports and my passion for the games. Just like most sports fans I
love to trash talk especially when my teams are succeeding. For example, when I go to a sports event
if my team is winning I love rubbing it in the faces of the supporters for the opposing team. Sports
affects how I talk by effecting my mood based on my teams performances whether it is good or bad.
For instance, when the Philadelphia Eagles lose my mood is atrocious and I speak negatively with
little hope in my voice. However, when they win I use much more positive words through the week
and I become upbeat. Often people know if the Eagles won their game based on how I act and speak.
The way I talk is one aspect that proves that I am a typical sports fanatic that lets sports control my
life. Secondly, it is obvious to the world that I am a typical ports fanatic due

Enron Corporation and Andersen, Llp Analyzing the Fall of...
The case of Enron Corporation and Andersen, LLP can be noted as one of the most infamous fraud
scandals in US history. Investors lost millions of dollars and ruined the public s trust. Enron was once
the seventh largest public company in the United States and Andersen LLP was the world s largest and
most respected business organizations. Enron s stock prices soared to approximately $100 to less than
$10 in 2001. How did these two big giants fall into oblivion and what could have been done to avoid
the disaster of these companies?
Enron Corporation was formed as the result of the July 1985 merger of Houston National Gas and
InterNorth of Omaha, Nebraska. Their headquarters were located in Houston, TX. In its earlier years,
Enron was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, Enron filed for bankruptcy
To make matters worse, when Andersen found problems in the financial statements, they didn t make
corrections due to a conflict of interest. The concern was that if Andersen brought these problems to
light, Enron would walk away and cost Andersen millions of dollars in the long run. Andersen
contemplated dropping Enron as a client, but did not follow through with it. Because the audit and
consulting was done at the same firm, it clouded Andersen s judgment. Andersen employees in
Houston began shredding documents and therefore brought obstruction of justice charges that
destroyed the firm.
There were many issues in this case but one of the main issues that stood out was the fact that
Andersen there was a conflict of interest because Andersen was the auditor and consultant for Enron.
There are positive attributes when auditing and consulting at the same time for a client such as
building a relationship with the client and promotes business; allows the auditor to become familiar
with the clients business environment, and reduces the overall cost of the client. However, when a
firm audits and consults for their client, the audit/consulting firm works so closely to the client that it
makes ethical decisions very difficult to make and the auditors lose objectivity and become partial due
to the conflict of interest.

Comparison Of Taming Of The Shrew And Oedipus Rex
Tragedy and Comedy Rewrite In the plays The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare and
Oedipus Rex by Sophocles, aspects of tragedy and comedy are used to shine a spotlight on human
nature and explain the reasons behind human actions. As American musician Willie Nelson once
stated, Cruelty is all out of ignorance. If you knew what was in store for you, you wouldn t hurt
anybody, because whatever you do comes back much more forceful than you send it out. Both plays
exhibit instances where characters are ignorant, cruel, and act in unusual ways. Overall, tragedy and
comedy elements are used by drama writers to reveal the true nature of humans and explain the
reasons for their actions. By virtue of the authors use of anagnorisis, farce, ... Show more content on

Petruchio s harsh treatment of her because of her disobedience eventually molds her into an obedient
and appreciative bride. Shakespeare incorporates this change that occurs within Katherine to
demonstrate how human cruelty can affect another person, changing them so much that they
completely disregard their previous beliefs. Additionally, a surprise ending is also prevalent in
Oedipus Rex when Oedipus finds out his wife/mother has killed herself. In reacting to her suicide, he
then pokes sharp needles into his eyes as described by the Second Messenger, He struck his eyes not
once, but many times; / And the blood spattered his beard, / Bursting from his ruined sockets like red
hail (Sophocles 1226 28). Even though Oedipus is distraught and understandably upset over his
wife/mother s death, he surprises the audience by penetrating his own eyes with sharp needles in an
attempt to punish himself. This surprise is further acknowledged when Oedipus speaks about his
actions: Do not counsel me any more. This punishment / That I have laid upon myself is just (1315
1316). Oedipus self harm is used by Sophocles to display how Oedipus ignorance leads to him
physically abusing himself, in addition to highlighting the reasons behind human actions. The author
allows Oedipus to add reasoning behind his own self destruction, specifically through his dialogue as
he outlines that him hurting

Summary Of Ray Bradbury s Dandelion Wine
Everyone suffers loss at some point in their lives but, it affects people differently. Some are more
vocal about their feelings than others. Nevertheless, the pain of loss can push growth and maturity in
everyone. The harsh sting of loss however will never be as strong as the love from friends and family.
In Ray Bradbury s novel Dandelion Wine, the citizens of Green Town, Illinois endure loss in its many
forms. There is the death of a loved one, extraction of an object no matter how insignificant, and the
end of youth. These are portrayed during the events of the book as they happen to twelve year old
Douglas (Doug) Spaulding.
Throughout Dandelion Wine, Doug loses some important people in his life. Some are lost because of
death and one is forced to leave. The first loss of a person Doug suffers is Colonel Freeleigh. The
Colonel, nicknamed the Time machine , is an old man who has a very vivid and long standing
memory. Doug and his friend love to visit him since he able to tell wonderful stories of his past. He
dies of natural causes, but his death still comes as a shock for Doug. Later, his great grandma dies of
old age. She is ready to die and offers Doug some calming words about death. She tells him, Important
thing is not the me that s lying here, but the me that s sitting on the edge of the bed looking back at me
... I am not really dying today. No person ever died that had a family. I ll be around a long time

Breaking Home Syndrome Analysis
Breaking Home Ties: Rockwell s Interpretation of the Empty Nest Syndrome The feeling of grief and
loneliness parents may feel when their children leave home for the first time in order to live on their
own or attend a college or university is known as the Empty Nest Syndrome. When my parents and I
watched my older brother venture out of the only home he had known for eighteen years to begin a
new chapter of his life, I personally felt this syndrome s effects. I had to adjust to him no longer sitting
at the dinner table with us every evening or giving me rides to school in the morning or walking the
halls with me at school, and I know that my parents will also have to learn to adapt once more when I
myself graduate high school in a year and a half. This empty feeling, caused by the abrupt absence of
someone who has always been in your life and is suddenly not around anymore, is most likely what
also captivated Norman Rockwell during 1954 when he painted Breaking Home Ties.
Through the inspiration of Rockwell s own personal troubles, as he mourned the absence of his three
sons who had all recently left home for universities, he was able to tell a story similar to his own
through his painting. His depiction of a farmer boy and his father and dog waiting for a train that will
take the young man to college conveys the sense of poignancy that all American families will
experience when their children inevitably leave them to begin their own individual lives.

In 1823, William Webb Ellis first picked up the ball in his arms and ran with it. And for the next 156

The History of Rugby, many believe that Rugby was born in 1823 when William Webb Ellis whilst
spending his time at Rugby school, took the ball in his arms during a game of football and ran with it.
This then became the distinctive future of the Rugby game. Although this is not fact as there is little in
the way of evidence to substantiate this view, it is more by popular belief. The true year Rugby
Football Union was founded was in the year 1871, in the month of December 1870 two men published

running with it and the ball moving within a scrum or ruck. Blocking is not allowed and only the
player with the ball may be tackled if the ball is knocked forward by a player with his arms a knock on
is committed and play is restarted with a scrum. Protective equipment is optional and strictly

protective items permitted include thin head gear no thicker than 10mm, non rigid shoulder pads and

1. According to Glaeser, cities attract talent and innovation due to its abundance of opportunity.
Historically, workers migrate to cities in search of employment and upward mobility, as demonstrated
by many cities migration patterns in the early twentieth century as a result of the Industrial
Revolution. However, Glaeser claims that in order to attract wealthy people, like Indian billionaire
Lakshmi Mittal to London, a city must prove to be pleasant and not only abundant in opportunity but
in entertainment because of all the people cities import. Restaurants are a major source of

whereas a high real wage describes how one must cope with hardships brought upon by the city such

sign of urban failure the painful crime rate and disintegration of urban amenities (104). According to
the data given of American metropolitan areas, Fresno has the lowest real wages at $44,501 while
Tulsa has the highest at $70,260. By Glaeser s argument, Fresno should be the metropolitan area with

How To Build Acropolis In Greek Art
All around the world, Greek styles in architecture and art have been imitated; the most influential of
these were Doric, Ionic and Corinthian rhythm. Greek style dates back to the Neolithic Age, beginning
in 10,200 BC. Throughout the thousands of years since then, Greek temples and structures have been
destroyed, repaired, and reconstructed. The Plaka District, the oldest section in Athens, is home to
traditional restaurants, shops, and cafes, and, with mainly pedestrian streets, it is easy to travel through
the whole place. Plaka s main street is known to be the most ancient street to be still in active use. This

The structure hosted festivals and historically significant events during Athens power. Rising 490 feet
in the air, the Acropolis covers approximately 7 acres and has four main buildings: the Propylaia, the
Parthenon, the Erechtheion, and the Temple of Athena Nike.
In 447 BCE, construction began under the guidance of Pericles of Athens. To build the Parthenon, the
best architects and sculptors were hired, among which was Phidias, who created the statue of Zeus at
Olympia. Phidias produced the statue of Athena made out of gold and ivory, which resided in
Acropolis until it was destroyed.
During the Roman Emperor Hadrian s rule, the Acropolis was expanded. Then, after Constantine the
Great, the Parthenon became a Christian church, following with a destruction of Pagan images. Once
the Roman empire and the Byzantine Empire fell to the Turks, the Acropolis was turned into a
mosque. The Parthenon had been used to house garrison troop headquarters. In 1821, after the Greek
war of Independence, the residents began to repair the damage created by neglect and ill use from the

The Changes in the Catholic Church during the High Middle...
In the year 1378, the Roman Catholic Church became divided when the King of France decided to
replace the current Italian Pope with one that he elected. During the Great Schism, there were two
popes claiming authority over the Catholic Church. Following the split, the papal offices began to lose
their authority. Ultimately, the cardinals of both popes decided that an ecumenical council of godly
men could collectively possess more divine authority that just one pope. In 1409 at the council of Pisa,
the church council was asked to elect a new pope that would unite the sides, meaning there would be
three popes. Now, there was Pope Urban VI from Italy, Pope Clement VII from France, and the new
member, Pope Alexander V. Neither the Roman or French popes were willing to give up their power,
now creating a three way battle for the church s authority. From 1414 1418, the Council of Constance
was successful in healing the Schism, leading to the resignation of the Roman Pope. The schism was
healed and there was room for an election of a single pope, Pope Martin V, who reigned from 1417
1431. The Great Schism of the West introduced a newly expanded authority for the general councils of
the church.
Furthermore, during this time, the church was undergoing a cleansing process regarding the different
religions that were practiced. Now, women were active participants in the spiritual movements of the
age. The amount if women joining religious houses increased rapidly as new

primary skills are cutting off; drawing out; and holding, shifting, and deepening the focus (Jacobs,

  • 3. The Movement Of Indi The Struggle Of The Power Left A... Many of these challenges stemmed from Prabhupada s death in 1977, which left a young ISKCON shaken . Although the movement was growing rapidly, it still relied heavily on the charismatic authority of Prabhupada, and his death created deep uncertainties within the organization s leadership. As the organization scrambled to fill the void in institutional power left by its founder, there was a significant movement of Indians into local positions of power, which had a [stabilizing influence on] many of the temple level conflicts and also encouraged a greater degree of Indian participation . As Indian Americans continued to take on leadership roles in ISKCON, they began to draw spiritual legitimacy and authenticity from their status as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before this period, Prabhupada distanced himself from traditional Hinduism and publicly stated that his movement was not Hindu: I don t want a Hindu temple. Our constitution is different. We want everyone . However, the movement was forced to abandon this conviction as anti cult sentiment grew in the 1970s. By the middle of the decade, ISKCON fell under intense scrutiny by the media and government officials. In order to protect the movement against accusations of being a dangerous cult, the leadership asked ISKCON s Indian supporters to speak to the movement s authenticity as a traditional Hindu religious group . This testimony was successful in alleviating public fears and allowed ISKCON to escape government sanctions. Without the leadership and support of Indian immigrants, ISKCON would have been far less prepared to survive the death of its founder in 1977 and the subsequent financial and legal issues that plagued the movement in the 1980s. III. Hippies and Immigrants: Comparative Perspectives Two major groups have historically populated the membership of ISKCON: first, the rebellious youth of the American counterculture, and second, the Indian immigrant community that exploded in the wake of 1960s immigration reform. While Indian American devotees currently represent a large proportion of ISKCON s following, their circumstances appear to differ dramatically from those of the counterculture s hippies. ... • 4. Smallpox Discrimination Diseases never discriminate. Nearly every problem availing mankind concerns a specific social class, a specific religious sect, or a specific economic bracket. But diseases never discriminate. Diseases are unique in the sense that they can bring the richest, most powerful men to their knees. For example, the thirty second President of the United States, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, most famously suffered from poliomyelitis (more commonly known as polio ) while in office,[1] and technological billionaire Steve Jobs tragically lost a seven year battle with a rare form of pancreatic cancer.[2] Smallpox, which was once the most feared disease known by mankind started out in the days of Christopher Columbus. The disease set out to change the lives of the people in the worse way. It became known as an epidemic disease that ended up killing hundreds of people. Small pox started out in Hispaniola and because of no cure, it traveled to the island of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These samples, as well as stockpiles of the smallpox vaccine, are stored because some level of concern exists that another poxvirus could undergo genetic changes (mutate) and cause human infection. There is also the remote chance that smallpox virus could somehow escape from the laboratories where it is stored. For these reasons, surveillance continues of various animal groups that continue to be infected with viruses related to the variola virus, and large quantities of vaccine are stored in different countries around the world, so that response to any future threat by the smallpox virus could be prompt. • 5. The Work Of Brameld, Horton, And Freire Names associated with Social Reconstructionism include, among others, Theodore Brameld, Myles Horton, Morris R. Mitchel, William O. Stanley, Paulo Freire, Ismail Hakki Tonguch, Neil Postman, and Charles Weingartner. Each of these educational philosophers have greatly shaped the reconstruction ideologies; however, for the purpose of this paper, it was considered to analyze the work of Brameld, Horton, and Freire. Theodore Brameld (1904 1987) is considered to be the founder of the social reconstruction movement. The Brameld s ideas to understand human condition were nurtured by thinkers such as Freud and Marx, as well as by sociologists such as W. L. Warner (Thomas, 1999). Brameld s ideologies were conceived through a curriculum experiment conducted in a rural high school in Minnesota during 1944 to 1945 (Stone, 1995). In this experiment, called the Floodwood Project, Brameld cooperatively participated with this high school s students and teachers to answer this question: What kind of a society do we, as young citizens, want to build for tomorrow . The students, who participated in this study, drew characteristics of an ideal society by working from their expectations and experiences about what a good society should provide. Brameld developed during the next two decades the outcomes in sight of: 1) determine values through an inductive approach, 2) social policy could be understood under the consensus of the learning group, 3) indoctrinaction could be addressed by ... This is a true Nebraskan s Facebook page. There is 1.882 million people in Nebraska, so it could possibly be any one (Nebraska). A recent example of something that Fischer has publicized about is Russia s role in Syria. The United States involvement in the Middle East is not something that we can mess with, so it is a very serious topic. This article discusses Russia s role in Syria and what Fischer thinks about their involvement. Not wanting a world war to break out, Fischer is concerned that Russia is gaining leadership in an area that they should not be. Instead the American leadership needs to step up because we can better the Syria situation. As quoted in the article Lack of American leadership (has opened) a vacuum that is being filled by a country that should not be a leader in that area. • 7. Appellate Legal Case Analysis Malcolm Gladwell once stated, ten thousand hours of deliberate practice are needed to become world class in any field (Gladwell). • 8. Essay about Comparing In Our World and the World of The... Parallels In Our World and the World of The Giver The story in The Giver by Lois Lowry takes place in a community that is not normal. People cannot see color, it is an offense for somebody to touch others, and the community assigns people jobs and children. This unnamed community shown through Jonas eye, the main character in this novel, is a perfect society. There is no war, crime, and hunger. Most readers might take it for granted that the community in The Giver differs from the real society. However, there are several affinities between the society in present day and that in this fiction: estrangement of elderly people, suffering of surrogate mothers, and wanting of euthanasia. Today, some women decide to become surrogate mothers of other women s babies because of several reasons, such as sympathy for the couples who cannot have children of their own or financial reason. However, to carry other women s children gives surrogate moms great senses of responsibility. They writhe in not only soreness of body, but also agony of mentality. The psychological pain by giving their babies to other women is greater than that of body. Thus, some surrogate mothers refuse to give up their babies sometimes. The third similarity is that some people want to embrace euthanasia in any society. Here is the release in the community. The release is not a natural death, but the end of life by human being. Nevertheless, some people want to be released from the community. He made a lovely good bye speech... He was thrilled. The History of Special Education in the Twentith Century During the twentieth century, drastic changes were made to vastly improve the special education system to ensure that all students, regardless of their ability, were given equal rights according to the Constitution of the United States. During early colonial America, schooling was not mandatory and it was primarily given to the wealthy Anglo Saxon children (Carlson, p230). Children were mainly taught in the home or in a single room schoolhouse. Therefore, children of limited mental capability were not likely to be schooled. In these special classrooms, a specially trained teacher would provide the instruction. As ideal as this might sound, it is hardly what did occur. The optimism of the educators to successfully teach the disabled students faded during the 1930 s and the 1940 s. Special education classes were held under horrible conditions. The rooms were insufficient, with limited resources, the teachers were poorly trained and the curriculum was inadequate. Schools also often classified students as having disabilities when they did not. Additionally, students were often labeled with one type disability when they had another. This practice (misclassification) (Turnbull et al p16) was a common discrimination in American schools. One might wonder why the conditions were so deplorable. Why were the teachers so terribly unqualified? It appears that the common perception of the disabled students was like that of Quasimodo, in Victor Hugo s The Hunchback of Notre Dame. They were misunderstood, and considered to be monstrous something to be hidden away, shunned and rejected by normal people. The public s attitude with disabled children was one of fear, as if the disability was somehow contagious. They were looked upon as crazy people. This general outlook set the standard for educating students with special needs. They were classified as inferior, so why should the school system bother to work with the retards ? • 12. Kwame Anthony Appiah Cosmopolitanism Utilizing a wide variety of subjects, including literature, history, and philosophy as well as his own personal experiences, Kwame Anthony Appiah through his novel Cosmopolitanism: Ethics in a World of Strangers, seeks to explain the similarities and differences of the people that inhabit the world. Prehistoric hunters and gatherers formed close knit communities which were founded upon survival, humanity, in turn, was shaped by those experiences. Centuries later, those close knit communities have expanded into kingdoms, cities, nation states, and world order. Appiah states that, cosmopolitanism begins with the simple idea that in the human community, as in national communities, we need to develop habits of coexistence: conversation in its older meaning, of living together, association (Appiah, xix). Here, Appiah reminds humans that we have been living beside each other since the beginning of time. However, even though the world is expanding; it is also shrinking, metaphorically, as a consequence of globalization. Individuals only in the past couple of centuries have had the ability to affect each other indirectly through shared resources and common enemies. Neither nationality, gender, nor state boundaries, have moral status with respect to questions of justice. Despite the reasons to value our relationships with our local citizens these reasons do not justify inequalities in the well being of people inhabiting different geographical territories. ... • 16. Double Strand Breaks In Dna Essay Abstract: Double strand breaks in DNA (DSB) constitute one of the greatest threats to cell viability. In eukaryotes DSBs are mainly repaired thanks to the process called Non homologous end joining (NHEJ), and consists of the direct ligation of the generated ends after the break without the need for a template . The objective of this paper is to discuss the different mechanisms available to correct DSBs in DNA. The components that participate in these repair mechanisms play a fundamental role in maintaining genomic stability (Specially in NHEJ). Furthermore, these mechanisms participate in programmed DNA breaks that mediates biological processes such as V(D)J recombination. During NHEJ the Ku protein binds to the generated ends and lays ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But the intracellular environment offers other dangers to DNA integrity. The largest of these is oxidation, which in the long run produces more damage than any of the above processes. The reactions that take place in the mitochondria generate, as oxygen is reduced to water, a series of highly reactive intermediates. These are reactive oxygen species (ROS): superoxide ion, hydrogen peroxide and hydroxyl radical (De Bont R, 2004). These species can leave the mitochondria and oxidize the DNA bases. As a consequence, single strand DNA (ssDNA) ruptures, double strand breaks (DSB) are generated, and loss of bases or covalent DNA protein bonds can occur. Despite its potential dangers to the genome, evolution has created differentiation and development processes using DSB as intermediates of its recombination reactions. Thus DSBs are generated to enable recombination between homologous chromosomes during meiosis or as intermediates during somatic (or V (D) J recombination) and recombination of class switch recombination (CSR) in lymphocytes (Tonegawa, et al. 1987). At the beginning of meiosis, each chromosome recognizes its homologue and is placed side by side along the whole length. This arrangement allows the exchange of DNA between homologous sequences and thus increases the genetic diversity of the gametes. During the V (D) J and CSR processes ruptures are introduced in a controlled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Henry s quote is included in his popular oratory, Speech to the Virginia Convention , in which he discusses with the colonists who were under the tyrannical reign of the Crown. Throughout his speech, Henry lists all of the discrepancies the thirteen colonies had with Great Britain, concluding that there is no other option, but to retaliate instantaneous. In Patrick Henry s Speech to the Virginia Convention, he utilizes amplifying loaded words and coherent parallelism in order to influence the assembly to unify and reciprocate. Throughout the entirety of his speech, Henry presents amplifying loaded words to bring to attention the predicament between the two opposing sides. Loaded words are terms of influence by employing positive or negative connotations. For example, Henry claims in paragraph five, We have petitioned; we have remonstrated; we have supplicated... (Henry 5). He particularly targets the verb of the sentences by altering their meaning, to add a kick to the phrase. The ambitions and passions in Alcibiades life that went unchecked resulted in the imbalance in his life both private and public. Although he befriended Socrates early and strove for true honor and real virtue, the rest of his life unfolded in a vicious way, rather than influenced by virtue. Alcibiades adapted to both good and bad, vice and virtue, establishing a strong inconsistency in his morals as well as his character altogether. While these all may be involved in the process of learning, hands on experience and a real desire for knowledge of the subject are needed to truly learn. Whether in the classroom or clinical setting, I believe that the process of learning should not be static, but rather fluid in the sense that questions should be asked back and forth between educator and student. A dialogue should be created so that both student and teacher are actively participating in the learning process. Through this way of learning, one has to actively think and apply the information they have on a particular subject, instead of just memorizing facts. I have found that this is the best way for me to truly process and retain information. In the clinical setting, hands on experience is the key to learning. Investors lost millions of dollars and ruined the public s trust. Enron was once the seventh largest public company in the United States and Andersen LLP was the world s largest and most respected business organizations. Enron s stock prices soared to approximately $100 to less than $10 in 2001. How did these two big giants fall into oblivion and what could have been done to avoid the disaster of these companies? Enron Corporation was formed as the result of the July 1985 merger of Houston National Gas and InterNorth of Omaha, Nebraska. Their headquarters were located in Houston, TX. As a result, Enron filed for bankruptcy To make matters worse, when Andersen found problems in the financial statements, they didn t make corrections due to a conflict of interest. The concern was that if Andersen brought these problems to light, Enron would walk away and cost Andersen millions of dollars in the long run. Andersen contemplated dropping Enron as a client, but did not follow through with it. Because the audit and consulting was done at the same firm, it clouded Andersen s judgment. Andersen employees in Houston began shredding documents and therefore brought obstruction of justice charges that destroyed the firm. There were many issues in this case but one of the main issues that stood out was the fact that Andersen there was a conflict of interest because Andersen was the auditor and consultant for Enron. There are positive attributes when auditing and consulting at the same time for a client such as building a relationship with the client and promotes business; allows the auditor to become familiar with the clients business environment, and reduces the overall cost of the client. However, when a firm audits and consults for their client, the audit/consulting firm works so closely to the client that it makes ethical decisions very difficult to make and the auditors lose objectivity and become partial due to the conflict of interest. • 28. Comparison Of Taming Of The Shrew And Oedipus Rex Tragedy and Comedy Rewrite In the plays The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare and Oedipus Rex by Sophocles, aspects of tragedy and comedy are used to shine a spotlight on human nature and explain the reasons behind human actions. As American musician Willie Nelson once stated, Cruelty is all out of ignorance. If you knew what was in store for you, you wouldn t hurt anybody, because whatever you do comes back much more forceful than you send it out. Both plays exhibit instances where characters are ignorant, cruel, and act in unusual ways. Overall, tragedy and comedy elements are used by drama writers to reveal the true nature of humans and explain the reasons for their actions. By virtue of the authors use of anagnorisis, farce, ... Shakespeare incorporates this change that occurs within Katherine to demonstrate how human cruelty can affect another person, changing them so much that they completely disregard their previous beliefs. Additionally, a surprise ending is also prevalent in Oedipus Rex when Oedipus finds out his wife/mother has killed herself. In reacting to her suicide, he then pokes sharp needles into his eyes as described by the Second Messenger, He struck his eyes not once, but many times; / And the blood spattered his beard, / Bursting from his ruined sockets like red hail (Sophocles 1226 28). Even though Oedipus is distraught and understandably upset over his wife/mother s death, he surprises the audience by penetrating his own eyes with sharp needles in an attempt to punish himself. This surprise is further acknowledged when Oedipus speaks about his actions: Do not counsel me any more. This punishment / That I have laid upon myself is just (1315 1316). Oedipus self harm is used by Sophocles to display how Oedipus ignorance leads to him physically abusing himself, in addition to highlighting the reasons behind human actions. The author allows Oedipus to add reasoning behind his own self destruction, specifically through his dialogue as he outlines that him hurting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Breaking Home Syndrome Analysis Breaking Home Ties: Rockwell s Interpretation of the Empty Nest Syndrome The feeling of grief and loneliness parents may feel when their children leave home for the first time in order to live on their own or attend a college or university is known as the Empty Nest Syndrome. When my parents and I watched my older brother venture out of the only home he had known for eighteen years to begin a new chapter of his life, I personally felt this syndrome s effects. I had to adjust to him no longer sitting at the dinner table with us every evening or giving me rides to school in the morning or walking the halls with me at school, and I know that my parents will also have to learn to adapt once more when I myself graduate high school in a year and a half. This empty feeling, caused by the abrupt absence of someone who has always been in your life and is suddenly not around anymore, is most likely what also captivated Norman Rockwell during 1954 when he painted Breaking Home Ties. Through the inspiration of Rockwell s own personal troubles, as he mourned the absence of his three sons who had all recently left home for universities, he was able to tell a story similar to his own through his painting. His depiction of a farmer boy and his father and dog waiting for a train that will take the young man to college conveys the sense of poignancy that all American families will experience when their children inevitably leave them to begin their own individual lives. Historically, workers migrate to cities in search of employment and upward mobility, as demonstrated by many cities migration patterns in the early twentieth century as a result of the Industrial Revolution. By Glaeser s argument, Fresno should be the metropolitan area with the greatest amenities. However, Fresno has the lowest median family income and second highest cost of living index. Out of the five cities, Boston is the most cosmopolitan. The city is rich with entertainment establishment and enjoys a high median family income. • 36. The Changes in the Catholic Church during the High Middle... In the year 1378, the Roman Catholic Church became divided when the King of France decided to replace the current Italian Pope with one that he elected. During the Great Schism, there were two popes claiming authority over the Catholic Church. Following the split, the papal offices began to lose their authority. Ultimately, the cardinals of both popes decided that an ecumenical council of godly men could collectively possess more divine authority that just one pope. In 1409 at the council of Pisa, the church council was asked to elect a new pope that would unite the sides, meaning there would be three popes. Now, there was Pope Urban VI from Italy, Pope Clement VII from France, and the new member, Pope Alexander V. Neither the Roman or French popes were willing to give up their power, now creating a three way battle for the church s authority. From 1414 1418, the Council of Constance was successful in healing the Schism, leading to the resignation of the Roman Pope. The schism was healed and there was room for an election of a single pope, Pope Martin V, who reigned from 1417 1431. The Great Schism of the West introduced a newly expanded authority for the general councils of the church. Furthermore, during this time, the church was undergoing a cleansing process regarding the different religions that were practiced.
