2. Holy Rosary Research Paper
I remember the first day at Holy Rosary very vividly. I was five years old and I walked in with my
best friend at the time Bernadette Keppler. We had assigned seats. All I remember was who was at my
table group Zoe Fuentes and Joseph Doleji. I was so excited to start a new school that I forgot all
about Bernadette. When I was in kindergarden i didn t know anyone in the other class so moving into
first grade was weird seeing all these new people. Every year at Holy Rosary I would make new
friends with people I didn t know went to our school or that came to our school that year. Now in
eighth grade I know everyone and I m very sad that I have to leave them next year. Being at Holy

The catholic education I have received at Holy Rosary really shaped me has a person because it has
shown me how true friends are. Growing up has an only child I was pretty attention seeking and it
didn t help that I was the most energetic kid ever. My parents were always at work so I would go to
base. At base I met kids that were in older grades and always thought of them has adults. They were so
mature and I wanted to be like them. I would try so hard in class to sit still and focus but I never could.
In second grade I got tested for ADHD. I did have it. I would go to classes after school and they would
try to help me focus. In fifth grade we started getting letter grades instead of ones twos threes and
fours. That year I really struggled to focus and it didn t help that that was the year my parents got a
divorce. In the end of sixth grade I finally got medicine for my ADHD and I could focus. So in
seventh grade I was pretty focused but was still immature. But in eighth grade I really shaped up and
could finally take responsibility. It was so great seeing

3. Identity And Identity In Coriolanus
He was a kind of nothing, titleless, /Till he had forged himself a name o the fire /Of burning Rome
(_______). In Shakepearse s play, Coriolanus, having a name is strongly correlated to having an
identity, thus if an individual does not have a name he or she is nothing. Coriolanus is a prominent
Roman war hero who had a strongly developed sense of self in the beginning of the play. However, as
the play progresses he falters and decides to become dangerously independent, not even wanting to
accept the name given to him by his mother. He continually changes his name and identity throughout
the play. Coriolanus rejects Rome s societal norms and establishes his own virtues that he lives by.
This method of thinking ultimately led to his banishment from Rome, which also pushed him into
forging for himself a new name. I can relate to Coriolanus struggle to find a name for himself. I feel
that the name given to me by my mother holds no identity in and of itself. Rather, it is the choices that
I make in my own life that will determine what that name will come to represent. Coriolanus first
name, given to him at birth, was Caius Marcius. Initially, Caius Martius was a strong military general
who was confident in his role in society. As a military general, he made fighting against the Volsces
his number one priority. Due to his overwhelming dedication to his country, Caius Martius was gifted
with the powerful title of Coriolanus. As Herald proclaims, Know, Rome, that all alone

4. The Shimna River Essay
The Shimna River As part of our A level Geography course I have decided to study the Shimna River
as my case study. I picked this case study because I thought it would be both interesting and
challenging as well as the fact it was on our doorstep. Before we could do anything we had to plan our
investigation.
Through my fieldwork I must obtain a table of results. For such data I must display it in a clear and
straightforward manner so I can analyse and interpret the results using statistical analysis such as
averages, spearman s rank, nearest neighbour, chi square and location quotient.

We took many safety precautions including going up the mountain when water levels weren t
dangerously high, choosing a calm day avoiding hazardous weather. We made sure that we all stayed
together and set up lines of communication. It was essential that we wore warm comfortable clothing
with a first aid kit always at hand.
Aims
When we set out at the start we had several aims to consider.
1) Does the river discharge increase the further from the source?
2) Is there a relationship between river width and stream velocity?
3) As the wetted perimeter increases, river velocity decreases.
4) The further from the source the stones deposited become smaller, smoother and more rounded.
5) Does river temperature readings increase the further from the source?
Data Collection
At each of our seventeen stops we recorded readings for river width, average depth, cross sectional
area, wetted perimeter, river discharge, types of stones and water temperature.
We systematically obtained our samples by measuring every ten meters at each of our four locations.
In my analysis of the River Shimna I selected three areas within the river study. They were the
6. Amending the Second Amendment
On December 12, 2013, a heavily armed man walked into a small elementary school in Connecticut
and opened fire, ending the lives of 26 children and teachers, not only shattering the quiet of the small
town but leaving our nation lurching at the number of young lives lost. The horror of this event
renewed people s passion on both sides of the fiercely debated issue of gun control and brought the
issue to the forefront of American politics once again. While no new gun control laws have been
passed since this tragedy, the debate over how to interpret the 2nd amendment continues.
Gun control laws are the government s way of regulating the manufacture, sale, transportation,
possession, and use of firearms. In our world today, we face the vast controversy of gun control and
who should be able to possess a destructive firearm, and under what conditions. These laws differ
significantly around the world, and in fact the laws in the United States vary by state. Supporters of
strict gun laws argue the dangers of allowing citizens broad rights to possess firearms. Opponents
claim that they wish to have a source of defense in their home, and also that certain regulations may
violate their individual rights. Gun control laws are protected by the second amendment in the Bill of
Rights, the right to bear arms. A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state,
the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. The bill guarantees Americans the

7. Ideals And Controversies Of National Park Expansion
Ideals and Controversies of National Park Expansion Since the early 1920s to the 1970s, there has
been a debate regarding the perceptions and standards by which national parks should be established
and limiting the expansion of national parks, limiting access for people living in urban areas and
threatening open spaces due to urban sprawl and over population. Gradually traditional perceptions
gave way to the preservationists viewpoints which redefined and gradually expanded federal
definition of national parks. This was to include areas that may not be extraordinarily scenic but still
required environmental protection or allowed recreational access for urban citizens, allowing for
expansion and more funding. In 1872, Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming became the first
national park to be established by Congress and President Grant with the signing of the Act of
Dedication Law. It followed that any national park established subsequently would be measured
against Yellowstone s significance in American culture. (Runte, 2010, p. 190) This is based on its
impressive geological features, and majestic and monumental scenery. By the early 1900s, there was
controversy surrounding the criteria as to what would define a national park, as President Roosevelt
had signed in several tracts of lands as national parks that did not hold scenic value, where not
especially expansive tracts of land, and one was utilized as a gaming preserve by a governmental
branch. One proponent to the

The early twentieth century was dominated with several multibillion companies. Some of these
companies included the three major motor companies often named as the (Big 3). These were the
General Motor, Chrysler and Ford. Toyota came up and replaced Chrysler and became the world
number two after knocking out Ford in the year 2003. Since the year 2008, Toyota has remained on
the world charts as the largest automaker in the world.
Why Toyota?
There are several reasons why Toyota was chosen for this report. Some of them include the fact that
Toyota managed to experience a significant growth in its global sales not only boosting its profits but
pushing it to the top of the automobile industry. The other key issues that also became known include
the design of Toyota global production and their distribution network. The principal purpose for any
company to do a strategic planning is to develop a shared understanding by all stakeholders in a

9. Lord Of The Flies Theme Analysis
Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of a man s heart (Golding 202).
This quote portrays, the loss of innocence and what horrifying effects it can do to one s heart.
The loss of innocence changes a person. One can determine that with Ralph when he becomes less
like a child and more like an adult. Even though, In William Golding s novel, Lord of The Flies he
demonstrates the boys being immature, one can perceive the boys maturing as their innocence is
slaughtered with the character Ralph.
In Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, one can recognize maturity through the demolish of
innocence with Ralph realizing how much power he holds. To begin, Ralph comes to terms with how
much power he has when he realizes how much destruction one is capable of.
As the boys sit by the fire they mutter, You got your small fire alright. The boys were falling still and
silent feeling the awe at the power set free below them (Golding 44). To clarify, Ralph recognizes the
power he has when the fire that him and the boys created goes out of control. When he does
something wrong there is no grown up who is going to punish him he has to be mature to be safe or he
will create destruction. Ralph loses a shred of innocence that night.
Furthermore, Ralph realizes how much power has when he comes to terms of how much power a man
can hold over another s life. As they grieve over Simon s death young Piggy mentions, You can take

10. Essay about The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
From generation to generation, the constant struggle for males to live up to the expectations of their
fathers often affects the choices made and actions taken by the sons. Perhaps, the overbearing
testosterone levels claim responsibility for the apparent need for sons to impress their fathers, but not
all boys consider the realistic consequences of their decisions. In Khaled Hosseini s novel The Kite
Runner, young Amir s admiration for his father Baba, coupled with the constant tension in their
relationship obscures his mind from making clear decisions as he strives to obtain his father s love and
approval.

Amir, representing the Pashtuns and high society Afghanis, allows himself to degrade Hassan, the face
of the mere Hazaras of the lowest class rank. Through the eyes of Amir, it seems as though Baba
preoccupies himself passing time with his comrade Rahim Khan; when he sporadically attempts to
involve Amir in his life, Baba always suggests that Hassan accompany them in their daily adventures
leaving Amir questioning why his father tries desperately to avoid alone time and bonding moments
with his son. The initial occurrences in which Amir witnesses Baba s immediate affection for Hassan
drive Amir s negative mental attitude and envy towards his only companion Hassan.
Hosseini utilizes outside environmental factors to contribute to the preeminating assumption of Amir s
character. The actions taken in response to external stimuli convey the true nature of not only the
protagonist Amir but his genuine friend and unknown half brother Hassan. The two juvenile Afghani
boys face many challenges growing up in Kabul; bullies taunt and threaten them routinely. Assef, the
leader among the tormentors, inadvertently plays a key role in determining the measures taken by
Amir in order to gain the acceptance of his father. Under repetitive harassment and criticism, Amir
rarely fights against his subjugation. Baba discerns his son s predominant flaw: cowardice. In his
mentality, Baba believes that a boy who won t stand up for himself becomes a man who

Easter Island is a remote volcanic island in Polynesia that is well known for its giant moai statues
jotted all along it. Many scientists come to Easter Island to study how and why the statues were made.
These statues have an average weight of about 20 tons and an average height of 20 feet. Historians are
not sure how the native people of Easter Island, also formally known as Rapa Nui, were able to drag
and place these large statues in their intended locations, but the most commonly accepted theory is
that the people used long pieces of ropes to drag these statues to their places. The Moai statues were
carved from the solid volcanic ash of the volcano Rano Raraku. They were then taken to quarries on
top of the volcanoes, where the people used ropes to hold the statues at a 45° angle so they could be

scoria stone. This was the process by which all of the island s 887 statues were made. It was an
advanced method for people to use in 900 A.D. The Moai statues show the advancing culture of the
Rapa Nui people. The first ones that were made were very short and stout, but the statues made more

15. Reflection Paper On Observation Of A Student
Over the past month I have been observing in Lebanon High school in a biology class. During my
time in this class I have observed a lot and have had a lot of great opportunities that have helped open
my eyes toward teaching, and the skills that are necessary to be successful in the field. While there I
had the opportunity to work with a student with learning disabilities. During this interaction I learned
how to best work with those who have a learning disability and that it takes the ability to think outside
the box when trying to explain to the student what the task is so that they are able to understand what
they are being asked to do.
While observing the student with learning disabilities I observed a few interesting qualities that this
student had that stood out from the other students. One of the qualities that I observed was that he was
quiet. Unlike the rest of his class who would turn around and talk with the kids behind them, he would
just sit there and wait for further instructions. Another interesting observation that I made was that my
student would be interested in his work, but as time went on he began to loose interest in his work and
would need someone to remind him to stay on task which was one of his accommodations. I found
that his ability to become unmotivated was more prevalent when he was taking notes with the class off
the smart board compared to when the class was in a group discussion and the teacher was asking
open ended questions.

16. Stephen King The Shining Theme
The Shining, by Stephen King, is a classic piece of American literature. Published in 1977, the story
focuses on the Torrance family, and their horrific adventure at the Overlook Hotel. Taking place in
1975 in the mountains of Colorado, the story takes a terrible turn towards death after Jack Torrance,
the father of the family, begins being taken over by the evil spirits that lurk in the hotel, and essentially
loses his mind. Jack begins expressing aggressive behavior and threatens to hurt his family. In the end,
he not only threatens, but actually attempts to kill his five year old son, Danny, and his wife, Wendy.
The orientation of the story around the family produces the theme of the novel, that inner demons and
fears can destroy us. There are many passages that demonstrate this theme throughout the novel, and
prove that it is the most prevalent theme.

Ever had a friend that used to be so close to but suddenly never see anymore? How many people
would you say have left your life, even if they were extremely close to you at some point? It s a fact

Diabetes Mellitus Research Paper
Ms. Annabelle Anglo
3/16/2015
EXPLANATION OF PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
The pathophysiology of the two types of Diabetes Mellitus are described by Schilling (2010). Type 1
Non Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus starts with a viral infection or other triggering condition that
forms antibodies that destroy the beta cells within the pancreas. This causes the pancreas production of
insulin to drop over time. Initially, the body uses the insulin that was already produced, but as the
insulin decreases, the cells within the body are not able to receive and use the glucose. The sugar
remains in the bloodstream after digestion and the negative effects of hyperglycemia become more
damaging. With Type 1, about 90% or the beta cells are killed by the antibodies.
Type 2 Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease caused by one or more of the
following three factors.
Impaired insulin production within the pancreas, so the body does not have enough to move the
glucose into the tissues and cells.
Incorrect glucose production in the liver.
The cells resist the insulin, so it cannot attach to the correct receptors.

members who are assigned to the Investigation Bureau must complete the mentor program and meet
certain criteria before they can conduct investigations independently. If selected for promotion to the

I remember the first time I was displeased by my body. I was eight years old. As I was sitting on the
edge of my bed, I lifted up my shirt and examined the little rolls of my stomach and thought, If my
stomach was flatter, I would look much better. Thinking back about it, it seems ridiculous that an eight
year old would be worried about their weight, but it s also probably not something that s all that rare.

31. Kevin Rudd Apology
To the Stolen Generations I say the following. .. As Prime Minister of Australia I am sorry. On behalf
of the Government of Australia I am sorry. On behalf of the Parliament of Australia, I am sorry (Kevin
Rudd, Apology, 2008). In 2008, Kevin Rudd stood up and made a speech in regards to the stolen
generation of Aboriginal Australian People. He made an apology on behalf of the government for the
way in which the Aboriginal People were treated. This speech was, and still is, a very significant event
that occurred in Australia s history. Whilst many Aboriginal People are thankful for the apology on
behalf of the white Australians, many still feel mistreated and upset over the issue (M Silby, 2013).

According to the Australian Human Rights Commission, governments have not undertaken sufficient
steps necessary to overcome the health inequality of Indigenous Australians. Since Kevin Rudd s
speech, there is still approximately a seventeen year gap between Indigenous and non Indigenous
Australian life expectancy. Indigenous people have a greater burden of life threatening diseases, due to
inaccessible and unaffordable treatments. Indigenous children also have higher rates of hearing loss,
as a result of untreated diseases (T Calma, n.d.). The speech, was an attempt to spread awareness of
these issues and to possibly overcome them. However, these statistics demonstrate how little action
has been accomplished by the Australian Government, to provide equal rights and freedoms for the

32. How Does Polonius Commit Suicide
1.) After Hamlet murders Polonius, a series of events begin to unfold; due to his actions, Claudius
sends Hamlet to England because he fears that Hamlet will kill him next. Claudius sends Rosencrantz

with this, the death of Polonius causes Ophelia to lose her mind and ultimately leads to her
committing suicide.
2.) During his speech in the beginning of Scene 3, Claudius conveys how he is conflicted on whether
or not to kill Hamlet. He remarks how Hamlet is loved of the distracted multitude (IV.iii.4) to describe
how the people of Denmark admire Hamlet, which explains why it would be difficult to kill him
without it backfiring.

35. Analysis Of George Orwell s The Elephant
George Orwell began the essay with his perspective on British domination. He stated that it is evil and
alongside of that it is oppressive. He felt hatred and guilt toward himself and the Burmese people. The
people of Burma did not feel threatened because the narrator of the story had killed the elephant. The
Burmese people have lost their dignity and integrity while trying to fight off the British imperialism.
Orwell uses allegories to describe his experience of the British imperialism and he had his own view
of the matter of slaying the elephant. He successfully used ethos, pathos, and logos by attracting the
audience to read his story. He had to make a scene in the story to make the people of Burma feel the
same emotion. The elephant was the one reason why it makes this story emotional. He used logos to
show that he can kill the elephant even if he does not want to so that it does not make him look fool.
Logos is used to show logic and persuade an audience by reason. When the author talks about the
irony and the reality of imperialism, he compares himself to the figure of a sahib. The comparison to
the sahib is a term that was used to name aristocratic rulers. It is an important symbol of their cultural
image. British imperialism is a hostile environment and does not justify exploitation by controlling the
Burmese people. The story sets the tone of the author s story to be un comforting. This story shows his
flaws and how he taunts others, even his own people of Burma.
