Walmart s Sustainable Business Development
Walmart s Sustainable Business Development
The purpose of this paper is to introduce you to the role of sustainable business philosophies and
practices of Walmart as well as looking at Walmart s strategic management perspectives and what
type of impact and influences they have on the external forces in the industry. While also focusing
on Walmart s concept of value creation applied to SBD (sustainable business development) and
their strategies.
Defining
Sustainable business philosophies are a system of fundamental or motivating principles that a
business handles in different areas of operation based on the actions or beliefs of that business. For
businesses to have a sound business philosophy is the cornerstone of a successful business (Burney,
n.d). The businesses philosophy is usually the company s mission and vision statement, which
explains the company s overall goals and their purpose of being in business (Burney, n.d.). Mission
statements are a guide for a company to develop and implement a corporate sustainability strategy
and are usually incorporated in a company s sustainability report (Epstein Buhovac, 2014).
Sustainable business practices are when a business initiates environmentally friendly operations
internally and externally to become a sustainable organization and to reduce their environmental
footprint by cutting down on waste (Belcher, n.d.).
Strategic management perspectives are how a company views and solves important issues in order

Personal Narrative On A Golf Car
You ready? my grandpa asked anxiously as he looked at me. I started to get off and move around
the golf cart to the driver s seat. I slid into the seat ever so gently, As i ll ever be I mumbled under
my breath as I lay my hands gently onto the steering wheel. I hope I don t get yelled at or
grounded badly if something happens I told my grandpa with a worried face. It was late in the
afternoon and me and my sister and cousin were bored and wanted to go on a golfcart ride. We all
ran up to my grandpa and urged him to take us on a ride. Alright, alright, i ve got nothing better to
do he said, grunting as he got up from his chair and started walking towards the newly decorated

and I told my parents. They actually didn t act as bad as I thought they would. Is everyone okay?
my parents asked as I told them what happened. Yes I said, picking at my nails and looking at the
ground, rocking back and forth.
Okay, hey you re fine it was just an accident they said in a loving voice.
I smiled and looked up at them. Thank you, for not being mad and yelling at me I hugged them

they re not mad at me and that i m grateful that both of them are forgiving parents. After that

Did You Know That The Olympics Were Originally Banished
Did you know that the Olympics were originally banished and it took 1,503 years for it to
officially return? The modern Olympics as we know it today came from the ancient Olympic
games that originated in Greece. These things are basically one event that has the same name but
they both have very different aspects and core values to them. This is why I chose to compare
both and show both sides, so that people may be able to see the evolution of the famous Olympic
games.
The ancient Olympics had their own style and was very unique. Back in those days, the games
were religious celebrations that unified the states and were held in honor of the greek gods this
belief system was shared by all people. Furthermore, each of the games ... Show more content on

these Olympic judges were chosen. For instance, the Elis selections procedure entirely involved
the election by popular vote of a group of respectable property owners which caused the citizens
to vote tribe by tribe. Then, all of the names were inscribed on potsherds and placed in a large

compete completely nude. Another requirement was that they had to swear that they were a

What Are Jacques Cousteau s Major Accomplishments
Jacques Cousteau was a man of numerous works and various talents during his lifetime. In
America he was well known for having several positions in his career. For example, he was a
marine officer, oceanographer, scientist, conservationist, filmmaker, and an underwater explorer.
However, in overseas countries, Cousteau was well known for his documentary television show
called the Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau. Lastly, but certainly not least, Cousteau is the
Creator of countless diving and scuba devices such as the Aqua Lung. Overall, Jacques was an
intelligent man with various ideas to help other scientists answer the questions of the oceans that

Cousteau s traveling around the world had allowed him to shoot film in some of the greatest and

Puritan Argumentative Essay
The Puritan settler s beliefs in the relationship between individuals, God, and the community during
the seventeenth century in New England created a sense of us (the Puritans) vs. them (the Native
Americans and non Puritan colonists), who hindered the idea of a city upon a hill, the perfect
Christian community. From John Winthrop s sermon warning the first settlers of New England
about the retributions God would bring to the community if individuals broke there covenant with
God (Winthrop 17 20). To the way, those same beliefs, brought over by the first Puritan
settlers,
affected the future interactions Puritans would have with Native Americans during the times of
declension, and their views towards them as seen in Mary Rowlandson s narrative.... Show more

Casper and Richard O. Davies Individuals could do nothing about their predestination: God s
grace alone, not good deeds, determined their fates (Casper and Davies, 17). This relationship
between God and the individual would affect the way Puritan colonists interpreted individual
success as a way of knowing their fate, which separated the rich from the poor, who would not be
saved (Winthrop, 18). This idea of individualism would help create the mentality of us vs them, as
seen in Mary Rowlandson s narrative where she views the behavior of the Native Americans as
savagery and describes them as heathens as lesser beings than herself (Rowlandson, 19). The idea
of individualism allows the Puritan colonists to view the Native American behaviors as uncivilized
compared to their own, which then they use to interpret their behaviors as favorable to God and the
behavior of the Native Americans as demonized or against God. Which then begins to create a view
of Native Americans as enemies that hinder the idea of a city upon a hill or a barrier in creating the
perfect Christian community. Which in turn creates the conflicts between the colonists and the
Native Americans as they attempt to convert them into Christianity as seen with the praying Indians
in Rowlandson s narrative

who is oblivious to the immensity of real life, I see a dancing phenom. I like to compare myself

that builds this parallel, it s the fact that we re both kings of the dancefloor. Unlike John, I m no

Percy Jackson And The Olympians Research Paper
To what extent does American author Rick Riordan accurately portray the Greek gods in his
series Percy Jackson and the Olympians as compared to the actual Greek myths and legends? How
does Riordan characterize the gods and what effect does his portrayal of them have on the story? In
the series Percy Jackson and the Olympians, author Rick Riordanjuxtaposes ancient Greek
mythologywith the modern world. The series tell the story of the title character, demigod Percy
Jackson and his friends as they goes on quests to, quite literally, save the world. The Greek gods
have an essential role in the series as they provide help and give advice to the demigods, and, more
often than not, are the root of all problems. Riordan takes the personas of the gods from various

The only major difference between Poseidon in the series and in the myths is the physical
appearance. This singular trait is one of the few that actually have an effect if changed; in the
series, Poseidon does not look majestic and has a more laidback and simple look and vibe.
Throughout the series, Poseidon s status as a god often causes the other characters to be
intimidated by him; if he were to be described as majestic in the series, he would be more
imposing than he already is. In addition, he is described as wearing modern clothes in the series;
if he were to lose this quality and be dressed in ancient Greek clothing, Poseidon would become
less relatable to the young adult audience and the series would lose some of its modernity. One
of the major obstacles Percy struggles with is learning how to approach and impress Poseidon,
his father. Being able to talk to Poseidon and get advice from him helps Percy complete his quests
and resolve major issues which would be more difficult to accomplish if Poseidon were any less

Lenovo Marketing
Lenovo Acquisition Analysis
Product/Brand decisions: Some of the issues Lenovo had to deal with in the acquisition of IBM
was how to capitalize on the marriage of brands and how to win corporate respect with the Lenovo
brand. The acquisition allowed Lenovo to move quickly into the international marketplace. Given
that IBM had one of the most trusted brands around the world, this allowed Lenovo to build on
past IBM s reputation. But Lenovo only had the right to use the IBM logo for five years so they
wanted to leverage that asset. The media perception of Lenovo s association with the Chinese
government was also concerning to Lenovo s executives since firms with this type association tend

This became part of their strategy of a one two punch : building up the Lenovo master brand and
continue to strengthen the ThinkPad product brand. Just before the acquisition Lenovo had
negotiated an Olympic sponsorship in order to introduce the world to the brand. They would be
able to use the Olympic logo for marketing and promotion but this arrangement would come at a
hefty price of $80 million to start and another $160 for the additional advertising requirement; a
large sum for a company with $3.2 billion in sales. Lenovo would also be able to continue to use
the IBM logo for five years as part of the acquisition which they intended to leverage. The promotion
strategy led to a three phase advertising plan. First, they ran a worldwide campaign where each ad
ended with a mention of the ThinkPad instead of Lenovo to reassure customer and maintain the
ThinkPad momentum. The second campaign was labeled ThinkPad Unleashed which ran during
the Olympics to emphasis that the ThinkPad was being made even better. The third phase stressed
that Lenovo stood for innovation which is how they intended to differentiate themselves from their
competitors. In order to continue to raise awareness, the marketing manager studied brand tracking
research from 10 countries every quarter. They would chose product

Abstract
A field trip to Rangitoto Island was conducted to investigate a relationship between species
diversity and area of vegetation patch. The study site was chosen to study the Primary Succession
of plant species as it has volcanic condition. Successional sequence for plant species on Rangitoto
Island was constructed, and the results show a positive directly proportional/linear relationship
between the two variables.
Introduction
Rangitoto Island is Auckland s largest, most recent, and most distinctive, 2311 hectares Volcanic
Island, located in the Hauraki Gulf of Auckland. Rangitoto Island is approximately 5.5 km wide
with its unique shield volcano cone rising 259 m above sea level, a widely noticeable landmark of
Auckland. The Island was formed approximately 600 years ago by a series of eruptions. As a
result from the eruptions, most areas of the island, especially the Lava Field, are covered in black
Lava basalt and Scoria. It is fascinating that over 200 species of native trees and flowering plants
have successfully colonized themselves in such harsh, rocky terrain (Ottaway, 2004; Wilcox, 2007).
Rangitoto Island is a wonderful example of a Primary Ecological Succession, where plant life began
in a new habitat, uninfluenced by pre existed ecosystem. Primary

Comparing Lewis And Clark
Lewis and Clark. You may have heard the names before, but do you know who these important
men really were or how important they are? This will all explained later in the article but for
now, all you have to know is that they were very important people who were the first to explore
the west part of America. It all started in 1803 when the French ,who owned most of middle
America, decided to sell their land to Thomas Jefferson, who was president at the time. They
sold it for a bargain price of $15000,m that might seem like a lot but really it is just about 3 cents
an acre. With this new, unexplored land Jefferson turned to his friend lewis to plan the journey
and map it, bring back scientific information and meet and make friendly relationships with the
natives on the way. Jefferson considered Lewis as the best man for the job . Lewis decided to ask
one of his friends to join him, Clark. Lewis chose Clark because he knew Clark was someone he

Examples Of Irony In Lamb To The Slaughter
In Lamb to the Slaughter the author, Roald Dahl writes about a young, pregnant woman named
Mary Maloney waiting for the return of her husband. When Mr. Maloney arrives, he disrupts the
usual domestic routine the couple had put in place by claiming he wants a divorce. Overcome
with emotions Mary takes the audience by surprise. She kills her husband. While this may seem
like a horror or tragic story. However, the ironyof it all causes the audience to view it instead, as a
dark humored comedy. The title itself is ironic thought the reader doesn t realize it until the end if
the story. Lambs are often seen as a symbol for purity or innocence. The title Lamb to the
Slaughter would be the same as saying killing innocence or the death of purity. The irony of the
title itself is that a symbol of innocence is used as a murder weapon.
The irony in the story doesn t really start until the end of the second page when Mary kills her
husband and then in the most calm manner says, All right... so I ve killed him (Dahl 3).
Everything the reader has seen up to this point about Mary s character is that she is docile, little
housewife that will do anything to make her husband happy. She eagerly awaits her husband s
return from work and does everything she can to make him comfortable rushing to pour him a
drink or offering to get his slippers. Taking a piece of meatand using it to crush one s husband s
skull is the exact opposite of these traits that have been seen previously in Mary. Add

Jazz is the most famous and well known music in New York City. We can feel this music and often

During the performance, we countered with professional Jazz artists who had performed in

The High Cost of Genetic Engineering Essay
The High Cost of Genetic Engineering
Genetic research on human embryos, in correlation with the human genome, is the key to gene
therapy, genetic diagnosis, and even to genetically engineered human beings. Knowing which gene
controls what trait and causes what genetic disease will arm doctors with a powerful tool to treat
their patients at the molecular level. On the other hand, this allows people to possibly manipulate
genes to enhance specific traits or create the perfect baby. Genetic research on human embryos has
two implications. A practical one in therapeutic research (to detect, and hopefully correct gene
flaws), and then the potentiality of allowing parents to decide how their child should look (or in an

Eugenics was and is thought to improve society and help eradicate diseases. There are two uses
of eugenics: positive and negative. Positive eugenics is increasing the procreation of those with
traits considered desirable or beneficial (Davis, 1981 and Saetz, 1985). Negative eugenics is
stopping the procreation of those with undesirable traits through sterilization, birth control, abortion
or counseling (Davis, 1981 and Saetz, 1985). Eugenics is thought to rid the world s population of
bad or diseased genes (Saetz, 1985. This practice, however, leads to intense discrimination against
those with low status, low IQ, etc (Davis, 1981).
The history of eugenics shows the ugly turn which genetics can take. The most prevalent example
is that of the Nazi regime and its policy of killing off Jews and Gypsies, who were thought to be
inferior (Saetz, 1985). Nazi and US compulsory sterilization laws, which sterilized the feeble
minded, schizophrenic, epileptic, depressed, etc., is also another example (Saetz, 1985). 410,600
people were sterilized in Nazi Germany alone (Saetz, 1985). The birth control movement also
embodied a sense of eugenics, making it a privilege for the rich and a duty for the poor. Marget
Sanger, a birth control activist, was quoted saying, The chief issue of birth control

Leader In Animal Farm By George Orwell
What is a Leader?
Leader: Noun
1. The person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country.
English Oxford Living Dictionaries
In the book Animal Farm by George Orwell, Old Major, an old pig, is depicted as a good leader.
A good leader puts others before themselves, is humble, willing to serve, and inspires people to
do their best. Old Major is the character that exemplifies these traits. In the book, Old Major is
gathering up support for a rebellion against Mr. Jones, the head farmer, in the hopes of an easier
and more prosperous future. And now, comrades, I will tell you about my dream of last night. I
cannot describe that dream to you. It was a dream of the earth as it will be when Man has
vanished. But it reminded me of something that I had long forgotten (Orwell 6).
Since the beginning of civilization, there have always been leaders. There have been great leaders
and bad leaders. Our first president, George Washington, is considered a great leader. George
Washington led his men through the Revolutionary War. Washington demonstrated the servant
characteristic of a strong and humble leader in the following story. One rainy day during the
American Revolutionary War, George Washington rode up to a group of soldiers attempting... Show

Personal Assessment Of Strengths And Areas For Development
What did you learn about your leadership? Personal Assessment of Strengths and Areas for
Development. I have more than one overdone strengths. One of them is over optimism about
people, organization, and trust in the management team. Whether it s upper level, or middle
management, I always feel that they know the best, and they know what they are doing. I only
see that everything is done accurately as they are versus how they could or should be.
Remaining loyal to others and the organization does cause issues for me, because others don t
normally see it that way. Trying to make things easier for others, or trying to be less of a burden
on others is perceived as I have no backbone of myself. Defending the rights of others is seen as I
m just always siding with the others. Ensuring others are valued is seen as what do I need from
them. Being sincere is seen as I don t know what I m doing, and am very easy to please, so I can
be ignored. Involve family and friends to point out to me when I m over using my strengths. This
will make me aware of what I really need to concentrate on. This will help me focus and align my
strengths on the needs of everyone, and the organization, and concentrate on other people who have
complementary strengths. Realization that my overdone strengths could in fact be detrimental to
not only my progress, but also others. In general, overdoing it may hurt my effectiveness just as

mature. This could have led the company to increase their account receivables and inventory in
order to bump up their assets to meet the debt covenant. There interest coverage increased from
2010 to 2011 from 3.8 in 2010 to 5.75 in 2011. This shows an increase in solvency where the firm
can cover the interest on it loans 5.75 times. However, their solvency in terms of interest coverage
comes into question as their short term equities account for $2500 which is not a reflection of
consistent cash flow generated from sales. Without the presence of short term equities Microlines
interest coverage actually falls from 3.8 in 2010 to 3.25 in 2011.
The long term solvency of Microline in is question as the company recently issued a long term
note and reclassified a short term note to long term which accounted for $7000. The direct result of
this shows an increase in the total debt from 47% in

Frank Underwood Character
There s No Point in Whimpering
Frank Underwood opens up the television series, House of Cards , by saying, There are two
kinds of pain. The sort of pain that makes you strong, or useless pain. The sort of pain that s only
suffering. I have no patience for useless things . To get a feel of Franks character, the writers of the
show immediately sets the tone with an unexpected scene of Frank killing a dog, who had been
previously hit by a car, to put it out of its misery. The creator of House of Cards , Beau Willimon,
makes Frank s character one with plenty of ambition and power, willing to do anything to get what
he desires, even if it means hurting others. This show exemplifies the lives of powerful leaders in
Washington and how everyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the start of the theme song, it provides a mysterious mood that entices the viewer to want
to keep watching. Beau Willimon creatively includes many elements into this work to add depth
into the story line. He has a list of characters that vary greatly in terms of personality and morale.
The most significant difference in character is between Frank Underwood and Peter Russo.
Frank lives off the rush of the chance of becoming more successful than he already is while
Peter is not particularly interested in a title. Even when Frank has more power, he is not
concerned with helping people while Peter is in a lower position trying to save the jobs of his
friends. Willimon skillfully includes symbols in his work. Specifically in chapter 11, he
portrays Zoe as a younger version of Claire, uses Claire s dress as a representation of Frank s
personality, and utilizes the chess board to reflect Frank s plan. These objects allow the viewer
to connect with the writer on an intellectual level and it makes the story more interesting.
Willimon ingeniously carries out the foreshadowing from chapter 1 in chapter 11. It was bold of
him to start with show with such a strange intro but it all made sense when Frank kills Peter.
Overall, the show displayed a fine storyline and it gave an insight of the corruption in politics.
While the story is a work of fiction, it does provide some truth regarding power hungry politicians
ruining other people s lives for their own gain. With the combination of characterization,
symbolism, and foreshadowing, House of Cards is a mind teaser with many surprising elements in
store for the

Essay on Joe Sacco
Joe Sacco s job isn t to write funny cartoons that belong in the Sunday morning paper. His works

there s much more to him than his notepad and pen; he s a traveler, an artist, and someone who

to his Wikipedia page, Sacco had a hard time finding a job with hard hitting, attention grabbing

the gravel road with Sacco looking for her. Illustrating the story of the citizens of Gaza lets those
of us who cannot experience what they are going through empathize them, and at the same time we

Sacco had all the control in his hands while creating this comic, so he was able to choose how his

After much thought and consideration, I decided to focus my controlling purpose on the mindset of

he speak about how this conflict greatly

the one I find that isn t as recognized as most in my opinion would be DVD s. DVD s have

Impact Of Donald Trump On The Us Economy
Donald Trump V.S. United States Economy
President Elect Donald Trump will enter office January 20, 2017. He has many great plans and
ideas on how to improve the United States economy drastically. Many economists have argued on
how Trump s plan will improve the United States, but can do some damage to the U.S. Currently,
the United States is in twenty trillion dollars in debt. The main question is: Is Trump the right
man for the job? Today, the focus would be on how Donald J. Trump s plan can revamp the
United States economy and what effect will it do overall. Donald Trump s plan focal point is on
cutting taxes and how that will result in many benefits towards the economy. The president elect

American workers.(Fernandez 1). Mr. Trump wants to understand and see where the American

(Fernandez 2).What is NAFTA and what mess it is creating? Basically, a trade agreement
between the USA, Mexico and Canada formed by Bill Clinton, and it has let many Americans
without jobs because most of them have gone to Mexico. That is the main reason Donald J.
Trump hates this agreement and how it has destroyed the United States economy to bits and
pieces. Additionally, what makes Trump fierce is that China has been stealing American trade
secrets for many years. He clearly stated, If China does not stop its illegal activities, including its
theft of American trade secrets, I will use every lawful presidential power to remedy trade
disputes, including the application of tariffs consistent with Section 201 and 301 of the Trade
Act of 1974 and Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 (Fernandez 3). Clearly, this
shows that Trump is serious about his job and doesn t care if he is dealing with China. China has
been stealing all our trade secrets and Barack Obama didn t do anything about it. In brief, this
clearly shows that our future President has the characteristics and personality of a true leader that is
ready for this great battle.
Our economy has gone down hill since Barack Obama stepped into office in the year of 2008.

The interrelationship of biological, psychological and socio cultural dimensions determines the
total personality of an individual. Ikpe (2004) postulated that Sexuality defines the very essence
of one s humanity including one s self image, being male or female, physical looks and
reproductive capacity; that is sexuality is a natural part of life. It is about the way we are made,
how we feel about ourselves, what roles we play in the society and how we procreate . Culture as a
way of life determines, to a large extent, human behaviour. It is patterned, learned, shared and
adaptive and is transmittable from one generation to the other (Basso, 1997). Culture has a way of
influencing every thing we do. It can be perpetuated and has the potential to overpower intervention
programmes and educational innovations. Religious and spiritual beliefs influence feelings about
morality, sexual behaviour, pre marital sexual behaviour, adultery, divorce, contraception, abortion
and masturbation (Greenberg et al 2000). Sexuality education can be seen as yet another religion
which is not necessarily different from what already obtains. What is Sexuality Education? Sexuality

A Blended Future Of Technology

A Blended Future Technology in education is not a new concept, especially at the college level.
Universities are encouraged to offer online courses, or as freelance journalist Chrissie Long and
many other experts call them, MOOCs (massive online open courses), to reach out to more students
and provide them with a more convenient style of learning (455). While MOOCs certainly have
their strengths, how far should universities go? What is the future of online education? Should
colleges of the future only offer online courses, or should face to face classes still be the primary
form of education? Blended courses, though not without faults of their own, can combine the best
elements of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because the lectures are outside of class, there is more time for discussion and clarification. The
lectures in strictly face to face courses are presented in class, so there is not usually enough time
for in depth discussions. MOOCs are entirely online, so there is no meeting for discussion.
Blended courses do meet and have time for discussions, but there are some drawbacks as well. For
example, if a student has a question that he or she cannot find the answer to, the student will have
to wait until the next in class meeting or email the professor to get the answer. In face to face
classes, the student could ask the professor immediately, but a student in a blended course would
still be able to eventually ask the professor in person, which is an advantage over a MOOC. Even
though face to face classes have more access to professors, and MOOCs do not require the
student to come to campus, blended courses remain beneficial to students because they provide
more time for discussions and clarification than other types of classes. Aside from more in class
discussion, blended courses also allow students to set their own paces. In an article for U.S. News
World Report, author Jordan Friedman mentioned a 2011 Kaplan Inc. research review that said
blended learning programs can potentially offer more personalized, student focused and flexible

Muscles Involved In A Free Throw Essay
There are many muscles involved in a free throw. The tarsals, metatarsals and phalanges are
located in the feet, allowing there to be balance in an individual s stance before the ball is
released. This is important because your feet need to be aligned correctly, facing the rim, to ensure
the shot will be successful. The patella is located in the front of the kneecap which contracts due to
the movement of the tibia, fibula and femur. While the lower body is bent, the humerus, ulna, radius
and carpals need to bend. For the individual to gain power, the patella, tibia, fibular, femur, tarsals,
metatarsals and phalanges will work together to bend, then extend the lower body. As the lower

There are many major muscles involved in a free throw. When setting up the shot, you need to bend

Flexion is the movement which decreases the angle between bones at a joint. The knee must be
flexed for balance and momentum. This is done by lowering the gluteus maximus as it allows
the knee to create this necessary movement. The elbow and wrists also need to be flexed to act
on the pressure of the ball. The movement of extension is where the angle between bones at a

begin to release the ball and straightening the elbow when the ball is released. This follows with
pronation which is when the hand and forearm rotate, making the palm face downwards. For

How Is Mark Twain Racist
When taking a look at Mark Twain s Huckleberry Finn, racism is a large theme that seems to be
reoccurring. What some may think to be racism in Twain s words, can also be explained as, good
story telling appropriate to the era the story takes place in. Twain himself has been suggested as a
racist based on the fact that he uses the word niggerin his book. However, Twain was an avid
abolitionist. For those who claim that Twain was a racist must have only been looking out for
themselves and not those who are willing to learn about the past whether it be ugly or perfect.
Racism was and forever will be a dark part of the American past, and no one can change that, no
matter how many books one may alter.

The main focus is to replace the 219 times the word nigger is used with slave. One would doubt
that Twain would input the N word into his book without having a good reason to do so. At the
time of writing this book, the Civil War was over and the general thought was that slavery and
racism was over. The thought then leads to the fact that Twain wanted to make a point of letting
readers know that, just because you have abolished slavery does not mean that the racism and
bigotry has gone with it. The repel of slavery made no difference to the racism card, and he
wanted his Northern readers to know it. When the argument of replacing the word nigger with
slave one sees the issue with that. The issue being that nigger in that time meant African
American, not necessarily a slave. So looking at a high school or college student in the future
reading Huckleberry Finn for the first time and reading is with the word slave the story loses its
effect on the reader. It does not give a sense of the time, it would only give a vibe that something
is not right in the story. When reading this story for the first time, one must have an open mind
and not pay attention to little things like racism in this book. The main plot is not, lets raft
down a river and see how racist we can be. As one reads the story flows, and part of that flow is to
allow discrepancy in racial slurs. It is okay to have the

The Plight of The African Slave Essay
Introduction
Slavery was one of the darkest periods in African American history. Africans were taken from their
homes in West Africa and brought to America to work on plantations. However, slavery was not
something new as it existed in Africa before Europeans partook in it, but slavery in Africa was
very different from slavery in America. During their voyage through the Middle Passage many
slaves perished. Those who survived were sold and subjected to the harsh life on the plantations.
When this happened, their authentic cultures were drastically changed from the way of life in their
native homelands in Africa to life in the plantation society of the American colonies. In this essay, I

Political System
Kings and queens had the authority in many villages such as in Venture s. Often times there were
more than one person in charge of the government. As in the case in Oludah Equiano s homeland,
there were no kings but chief and elders who ran the government of his village. According to
Equiano, for every transaction of the government, as far as my slender observation extended was

judges and senators in addition to the chiefs and elders. Surprisingly there were no jails and the
punishment depended on the crime committed. For example, according to Equaino, Adultery was
sometimes punished with slavery or death.... (191).

Media s Influence On Media
Humans have been a focus for marketers for over 100 years and at the rise of the twentieth
century, mass media became widely recognized. In a period of mass availability, people today
have entry to more media outlets than ever before. According to media scholar Jean Kilbourne,
the average American is exposed to over 3,000 advertisements a day and watches three years
worth of television ads over the course of a lifetime (back cover). It is all around us, from the
shows we watch on television, the music we listen to on the radio, and to the books and magazines
we read each day. Media is the number one source for advertising. Advertising is a manipulative
enterprise that uses subtle techniques to persuade consumers into accepting whatever sales pitch
[that is] presented to them (Blades, Oates, and Blumberg 3). The vast majority of people do not
think that advertising has any influence on them. To their surprise, this is what advertisers want
the general population to believe; however, if that were true, why would companies spend over
$200 billion a year on advertising (Kilbourne 33)? The media has full control to decide what the
public sees and how it is portrayed.
Some argue that people benefit from exposure to the media and it s advertising. The media
provides us with most of our information about the political process (Buckingham 5). Through
news channels such as CNN and Fox News, people are offered an opportunity to learn and develop
their own political view and

Hi, I m going to be talking about Carbon fibre in tennis rackets
What I will cover in the next ten minutes is this.
I will talk you through what Carbon fibre is, its atomic structure, properties which then makes it the
ideal material for modern tennis rackets.
What is Carbon fibre?
Carbon fibre consist of tiny filament about 5 8 mu metres in diameter. Carbon fibre mostly contains
carbon bonds which are bonded together in a crystal Alignment. This means there are strong
covalent bonds between the molecules. Being in its crystal alignment, this gives carbon fibre a high
to strength to volume ratio which basically means it strong for its size.

As it is for advanced player with a large swing it needs to be pretty aerodynamic. The tension can

Do parents with lower a IQ tend to not raise their children right? Admittedly, Sam does have the

Expanding Child Participation in Prevention and Elimination of Child labor through Peer
Education and Child Labor Monitoring (A Concept Paper) I.RATIONALE: A.BACKGROUND
A survey conducted by the National Statistics Office (NSO) and international labor Organization
(ILO) in 2011 estimated working children, 5 to 17 years old at 5.5 million. 3 million or 54.5 %
were engaged in hazardous child labour. Under the law, child labor is defined as any form of
work or economic activity performed by a child that subjects him/ her to exploitation, is harmful
to health and safety, physical and mental or psychosocial development. The top three industries
are agriculture, hunting, forestry, wholesale and retail, and private households. Over 60% are in
agriculture while 30% are in the service sector. Families and children often times refuse to see
the risks of dangerous occupation to children. They believe that it is necessary to be able to help
in addressing the needs of the family. Regardless of the danger they face, children are forced into

Comparison Of A Psalm Of Life, And O Me ! O Life
Francis Scott Fitzgerald once said, Our lives are defined by opportunities, even the ones we miss .
Known as one of the greatest American writers of the 20th century, Fitzgerald influenced many
people in his lifetime. Fitzgerald explains that one should embrace whatever opportunities present
themselves, even the ones that have to be found again. Similarly, Rainer Rilke, Henry Longfellow,
and Walt Whitman focus on the meaning of lifeand obtainable opportunities in their works. In the
poems Archaic Torso of Apollo, by Rainer Rilke, A Psalm of Life, by Henry Longfellow, and O
Me! O Life! by Walt Whitman, a common theme is that one s life does not wait for them, and one
must take ahold of his passions.
First, Archaic Torso of Apollo, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One way A Psalm of Life develops a common theme along with Archaic Torso of Apollo and O
Me! O Life! , is when the author talks about enjoyment and sorrow: But to act, that each
tomorrow/ Finds us farther than today (Longfellow). It can be inferred that whatever one may
do today, tomorrow will always come. The reader understands this because when the author says
tomorrow finds us farther than today, it is known that tomorrow is always a day away, and will
bring new ideals. This develops the theme by implying that life will move on, even if one does
not. Another way A Psalm of Life, progresses the theme is through the explanation that time does
not wait for anyone: Art is long, and Time is fleeting,/ And our hearts, though stout and brave,
/ Still, like muffled drums, are beating/ Funeral marches to the grave (Longfellow). This quote
allows the reader to infer that a long life means a life full of opportunities. This is suggested
through the use of the phrase time is fleeting, meaning time is going by fast, but one has a lot of it.
This develops the theme by implying that life has many opportunities and one must seize them. To
summarize, A Psalm of Life, by Henry Longfellow uses actions to develop

Tess Of The D Urbervilles Color Red Essay
Just as most pieces of literature, Thomas Hardy s Tess of the d Urbervilles uses different forms of
symbolism throughout the novel. A prominent symbol through the novel, red is used quite often.
Hardy uses it to foreshadow, warn, and hint at future events that are important to the theme and in
the progression of the novel. Other symbolic devices are used, but the colorreds myriad of
meanings has proven it to be the best way to trace Tess s journey. The symbolism color red is
first introduced in the description of the girls whom ar attending the May Day Dance. The girls,
including Tess, are wearing various shades of white. Tess, however, is wearing one piece of red;
a ribbon in her hair. The insertion of the red ribbon in Tess s attire is, in a sense, a marker. It s a
red flag, if you will, that indicates the beginning of Tess s condemnation. Another example of the
color being used to foreshadow Tess s future pain, is in the following passage; The dialect was on
her tongue to some extent, despite the village school; the characteristic... Show more content on

Alec, as previously states, will come to be the bane of her existence. He will come to be
intertwined with the color red multiple times. The first time is when he and Tess are out for a
stroll. He keeps handing her flowers, giving him the illusion of having a sweet air about him,
but by using red, Hardy is able to hint at Alec s true role in Tess s life. Hardy describes that by
putting on a sweet façade, Tess is put under a blue narcotic haze. By doing so, Alec is able to
keep Tess from thinking that he has the potential to be the one who stood fair to be the blood red
ray in the spectrum of her young life. The use of red here encompasses all the horrid Alec will
cause in Tess s life, specifically those in relation to blood, such as her rape, childbirth, and other
events that further sullied her

The Benefits Of Aging Population
It is suggested that at the rate we are going now we won t be able to accommodate the needs of an
aging population as it continually grows. I argue that this is true based on the numbers from the
research I have done. I argue for the reasons of manning in health care, money, health and the
economy with a large populationgetting older and ready to retire that we are going to potentially
face some serious problems. At the rate our agingpopulation is growing I believe we will not have
enough people and facilities to take care of the aging population once they need health care for
things that come with old. The populations of most western countries are getting older, mainly
the Baby Boomers, born in the 1950s and 1960s. They live longer and had fewer children than
previous generations. (Irman, 2017). Population aging of this dimension is unique in world
history. Because of this it will pose serious challenges for the health care systems, pension
schemes, and public debt management of modern societies. (Irman, 2017), The problem is that
population aging is itself a cause for a decline in both GDP and per capita GDP . (Irman, 2017, p.
3). If you have less people in the workforce than before that s less people paying taxes and buying
goods and services. There could be less money going into the government and more coming out
for older folks for things like Social Security and Medicare. The aging population is growing and so
is the population of people getting ready to

Geometry And Geometry
My first article author was ( Tara Mastroeni). This article is basically about how the buildings are
all shapes and different sizes, and yet so similar at their core. For those wondering this occurs over
and over again in nature. It s is found in everything from the shape of the universe. The structure of
clouds, and the proportions of human body. Humans have incorporated it into everything from the
mathematics to artwork and music. That you or any person can make anything as long as you
know mathematics basically you can do anything. Some people say that why do you need
mathematics to build a housewell that is the biggest part in build a home or buildinganything you

Almost everything we build has to do something with geometry or mathematics if you know it or
not we use geometry in everyday life. The word geometry means, to measure the earth.
Geometry is the branch of math that is concerned with studying area, distance, volume, and other
properties of shapes and lines. Now that you know how much geometry is used in building and
decorating homes you yourself can build your own home with the help of me you will know
what to do. Just make yourself a plan and just do it. One more thing, in decorating these homes
you will need a lot of supplies, the basics you will need will be things like new things you will
want to be in your house that will make you feel comfortable. If you are building your own
house make sure that you like it and you feel comfortable in it because if you don t then you
might not stay there or like living their. This can go for just buying a house from someone and
redecorating it the way you like. Most people use a measuring tape to measure the blinds of the

Gregor Jordan s Two Hands
Usually when I think of Australian cinema, the first couple of movies that come to mind are the
Mad Max films, Crocodile Dundee and Strictly Ballroom. These are all great Australian classics but
I find that there s one movie that perfectly encapsulates the true Australian culture through a
simplistic story.
For me it s Gregor Jordan s, Two Hands released in 1999, an amusing yet interesting filmwhich
features a young Heath Ledger playing the role of Jimmy, a bouncer at a nightclub in Kings Cross
who wants to be accepted by the gangster boss Pando, played by Bryan Brown. Eventually Jimmy
has a chance to prove himself to Pando by delivering ten thousand dollars to an address in Bondi,

Essay about Santa Cruz Bicycles
Critical Facts Introduction and Growth: Santa Cruz Bicycles (SCB) is a company started in
1993 by a former professional skateboarder Rob Roskopp who teamed with fellow skaters Mike
Marquez and Rich Novak. The company evolved from manufacturing simply advanced full
suspension bikes in 1993 to today s cutting edge performance bikes known for their unique
Virtual Pivot Point (VPP) system. (Santa Cruz Bicycles, 2014) A company who had a revenue of
$6 million in 1990 s increased its sales by more than 40 percent a year. (Duvall, 2007) Journey

Cruz unique in a competitive market. (Graney, 2009) Joe Graney, Director of Engineering
explains that they have nearly doubled revenues since 2007, despite the prevailing economic
turmoil and attributes their growth solely due to the implementation of PTC s Creo software.
This has also enabled the company to create more innovative new models every year. (Shepherd,
2013) Analysis All the promotional buzz in the industry won t make a poorly mechanized bike
good. Similarly, all the 3D modelling or PLM software in the industry won t result in much
unless the people leading it are determined to build an outstanding product. Santa Cruz Bicycle s
passion for bikes stand as a testament to their desire to make the best possible designs that they
can be proud of. Apart from their zeal to produce great bikes, is it the software that helped them
achieve the pinnacle? Or is it the change in their processes? Or is it their collaboration with PTC
that worked out? Or is it their culture which made the difference? Or is the alignment of
Information systems with their business model? Or is the people who make

Ethics And Leadership Have Been Thought As Mutually...
Ethics and leadership have been thought as mutually reinforcing concepts. Leadership can be
defined as actions, which influence and direct the performance of others towards the
achievement of organizational and/or collective goals. Ethics, for its part, can be defined as a
systematic attempt through the use of reason to make sense of our individual and social moral
experience in such a way as determine the rules which ought to govern human conducts
(Denhardt, 2014). Thus, to be a good leader today, one must be sensitive to issues of social
responsibility and ethical behavior and when concerns arise be able to address it as failing to do so
can have a negative impact on organization s credibility and employees performance just to cite
some. Ethical concerns In February, Texas steelworkers were on strike against oil companies over
unsafe working conditions after the negotiation fail with Shell Oil Company. The workers complain
about onerous overtime; unsafe staffing levels; dangerous conditions the industry continues to
ignore; the daily occurrences of fires, emissions, leaks and explosions that threaten local
communities without the industry doing much about it; the industry s refusal to make opportunities
for workers in the trade crafts; the flagrant contracting out that impacts health and safety on the
job; and the erosion of their workplace, where qualified and experienced union workers are
replaced by contractors when they leave or retire

In the three stories Ambush , The Leap , and Contents of the Dead Man s Pockets had many

apartment, odd and different seeming now. Tom did this because of a paper that blew out of his
window, that could have possibly got him a promotion. Him being out on this ledge later
impacted his feelings and other parts of the story. In The Leap the narrator told stories of her
mother s past and how she used her past career to overcome cataracts and save the narrators life.

The Uk s Constitution And The United States
Unlike many other Nations with a codified constitution, the UK has no single constitutional
document this means, she has no single constitutional document but whose main sources are, Acts
of Parliament, Judicial decisions and Constitutional conventions. This essay looks at the features of
the UK s constitution, what a written constitution entails and whether or not it would be desirable
for UK to embrace codification being the only European state with an unwritten constitution. There
has never been a constitutional moment at which the fundamental rules required clarification and
laying down in a single document; instead, there has been an unusual continuity in the governing
institutions; It has relatively been peaceful, hence, no need for a written constitution . However,
this cannot be said of the codified constitutions, which tend to come about after there has been a
severe rupture in the political system of the country concerned. For example, revolution, civil war,
the ending of dominance by another country . In recent years, the UK s constitution has become
partly written; shifting from a more political to a more legal form of constitutionalism (this can be
seen in the power conferred on the courts to review government decisions on human rights ground.
Moreover, the British constitution has shown itself over centuries to be extraordinarily dynamic
and flexible, with the capacity to evolve in the light of changes in circumstances and in society.

Homeland Security Review Essay
Every year the United States faces new and different threats and hazards, which can be difficult to
identify. The 2014 Quadrennial Homeland Security Review, which was released by the Department
of Homeland Security (DHS), laid out what they believe will drive risks to the nation over the next
several years. The report pinpointed six calculated challenges terrorist threats; cyber threats;
biological concerns; nuclear terrorism; transnational criminal organizations, and natural hazards
which DHS feels are the most likely to occur (DHS, 2014, pg. 28). In this paper I will discuss each
threat in more detail and which of these threats pose the ultimate risks to local communities, and
how the communities can utilize their resources to prevent or mitigate these risks. The terrorist
threat is quickly becoming one of the most significant threats to the United States, but more
importantly to local communities. Terrorist threats can come from large scale attacks like the 9/11
attacks or from smaller loan wolf threats like the San Bernardino, CA shootings. In either case, local
communities, families, and law enforcement (LE) agencies feel the initial impact as well as the
immediate and long term fallout. State, local, and tribal governments use the Threat and Hazard
Identification and RiskAssessment process to detect risks and decide how to tackle the challenges
(DHS, 2014, pg. 36). To try to prevent terrorist threats from occurring many local LE agencies have

Year after year, we have taken advantage of our position by setting our own price rather than
basing it on demand and supply equilibrium. The latest sales numbers from 2011 shows Viagra s
success in having the largest market shares compared to our competitors: ED Drugs| Market
Share| Sales| Viagra(Pfizer)| 45%| 1.9 B| Cialis(Eli Lilly)| 36%| 1.5 B| Levitra (Bayer AG)| 15%|
0.5 B| FUTURE OF VIAGRA Change in Demand and Supply Again, similar to Zoloft, once
Viagra s patent expires, the generic competitors entering the market will force Viagra to
significantly drop its price in order to remain competitive. The pricing will affect the demand
which means the demand is now elastic rather than inelastic. In addition to the change in demand
from inelastic to elastic, the supply curve will also shift outward quite drastically as multiple
generic manufacturing firms enter the market causing the ED market to progress further into a
monopolistic competitive market. Consumers Although we have achieved high profits with
Viagra, we still have more opportunities to grow our market shares and maximize profits.
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), approximately 30 million men in the United
States are affected by ED. [5] Of those affected, 80% of those men do not seek treatment and
never discuss their issues with their doctors. [6] Most men have been affected by ED at some

Character Analysis Of Elijah Weesageechak In Three Day Road
In the novel Three Day Road by Joseph Boyden, Elijah Weesageechak is a very brave character
who repeatedly risks his life during the war. Elijah is also a very cruel character; Thai becomes
increasingly evident throughout the novel. One example of Elijah being cruel is when he shoots a
young girl hiding in a crumpling building. Another example of Elijahs cruelty is when he kills Grey
Eyes and Lieutenant Breech so not to get in trouble for being addicted to morphine and for
committing war crimes. But then one time that Elijah shows his bravery is when he volunteers
to act as bait to draw sniper fire, allowing Xavier to find and kill the sniper. Elijah killing a young
girl who is hiding in a run down building is an example of him being exceptionally cruel. This
happens when Elijah and his friend Xavier are sent to scout a building. Elijah ends up shooting a
girl who is hiding in the building with her mother. After he shoots her he tells Xavier that he had
not realized it was a little girl and that he thought she was attacking him. (306) Though Elijah said

Elijah instead picks up a wooden plank and uses it to brutally beat them to death. (340) This is

Lying And Deception By William Shakespeare
Lying and deception have been present throughout all of human history. People lie about who
they are, what they think, etc. Over the centuries the reasons for lying have stayed the same.
When lying and deceiving people have always looked for some kind of reward, it can be money,
fame or simply to avoid conflict. However, the methods we use to liehave changed with the
creation of the internet. Even though, Shakespeare s time period had very different views on
lying that those today, his book, The Taming of the Shrews, was written to teach us that even
though lying is an integral part of ourselves, we must not use it to take advantage of others. Lying
and deception is used in The Taming of the Shrews as a way for the characters to get into romantic
relationships, and manipulate their partners. For instance, Lucentio is indicated by Tranio, his
servant, to pass off as the schoolmaster/ And undertake the teaching of the maid (1.1.197 198).
Lucentio decides that deceiving Bianca is his best chance at a romantic relationship with her.
Deception and changing one s identity is shown to be a method at obtaining women. Likewise,
many characters resort to lying as a way to control, or tame their partners. Petruchio lies to
Katherina about what is real and what is not as a way to confuse her and ultimately ends up
controlling her. Shakespeare portrays lying as more of a tool that is used to manipulate others,
rather than an action. Seeing as most of the male characters in the

Walmart s Sustainable Business Development Walmart s Sustainable Business Development The purpose of this paper is to introduce you to the role of sustainable business philosophies and practices of Walmart as well as looking at Walmart s strategic management perspectives and what type of impact and influences they have on the external forces in the industry. While also focusing on Walmart s concept of value creation applied to SBD (sustainable business development) and their strategies. Defining Sustainable business philosophies are a system of fundamental or motivating principles that a business handles in different areas of operation based on the actions or beliefs of that business. For businesses to have a sound business philosophy is the cornerstone of a successful business (Burney, n.d). The businesses philosophy is usually the company s mission and vision statement, which explains the company s overall goals and their purpose of being in business (Burney, n.d.). I slid into the seat ever so gently, As i ll ever be I mumbled under my breath as I lay my hands gently onto the steering wheel. I hope I don t get yelled at or grounded badly if something happens I told my grandpa with a worried face. It was late in the afternoon and me and my sister and cousin were bored and wanted to go on a golfcart ride. We all ran up to my grandpa and urged him to take us on a ride. They actually didn t act as bad as I thought they would. Is everyone okay? my parents asked as I told them what happened. Yes I said, picking at my nails and looking at the ground, rocking back and forth. Okay, hey you re fine it was just an accident they said in a loving voice. I smiled and looked up at them. Thank you, for not being mad and yelling at me I hugged them and kissed them on the cheek. As I ran off to play with my friends, I was thinking about how they re not mad at me and that i m grateful that both of them are forgiving parents. • 4. Did You Know That The Olympics Were Originally Banished Did you know that the Olympics were originally banished and it took 1,503 years for it to officially return? The modern Olympics as we know it today came from the ancient Olympic games that originated in Greece. These things are basically one event that has the same name but they both have very different aspects and core values to them. This is why I chose to compare both and show both sides, so that people may be able to see the evolution of the famous Olympic games. The ancient Olympics had their own style and was very unique. Back in those days, the games were religious celebrations that unified the states and were held in honor of the greek gods this belief system was shared by all people. Furthermore, each of the games ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A Visitor s Guide to the Ancient Olympics Ebrary. For instance, the Elis selections procedure entirely involved the election by popular vote of a group of respectable property owners which caused the citizens to vote tribe by tribe. Then, all of the names were inscribed on potsherds and placed in a large ceramic vessel. Henceforth caused a decision to be made of the nine judges . Faulkner, Neil. Their training varied depending on the contest they decided to enter and one of the requirements was to compete completely nude. Another requirement was that they had to swear that they were a freeman, of pure Hellenic blood, did not propose to win by any unfair means and that neither they nor immediate their immediate relatives had been guilty of any outlaw or sacrilegious act. • 6. Puritan Argumentative Essay The Puritan settler s beliefs in the relationship between individuals, God, and the community during the seventeenth century in New England created a sense of us (the Puritans) vs. them (the Native Americans and non Puritan colonists), who hindered the idea of a city upon a hill, the perfect Christian community. From John Winthrop s sermon warning the first settlers of New England about the retributions God would bring to the community if individuals broke there covenant with God (Winthrop 17 20). To the way, those same beliefs, brought over by the first Puritan settlers, affected the future interactions Puritans would have with Native Americans during the times of declension, and their views towards them as seen in Mary Rowlandson s narrative.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Casper and Richard O. Davies Individuals could do nothing about their predestination: God s grace alone, not good deeds, determined their fates (Casper and Davies, 17). This relationship between God and the individual would affect the way Puritan colonists interpreted individual success as a way of knowing their fate, which separated the rich from the poor, who would not be saved (Winthrop, 18). This idea of individualism would help create the mentality of us vs them, as seen in Mary Rowlandson s narrative where she views the behavior of the Native Americans as savagery and describes them as heathens as lesser beings than herself (Rowlandson, 19). The idea of individualism allows the Puritan colonists to view the Native American behaviors as uncivilized compared to their own, which then they use to interpret their behaviors as favorable to God and the behavior of the Native Americans as demonized or against God. Which then begins to create a view of Native Americans as enemies that hinder the idea of a city upon a hill or a barrier in creating the perfect Christian community. Which in turn creates the conflicts between the colonists and the Native Americans as they attempt to convert them into Christianity as seen with the praying Indians in Rowlandson s narrative ... I see a socially awkward teenager, I see someone who is oblivious to the immensity of real life, I see a dancing phenom. I like to compare myself to John Travolta from Saturday Night Fever, and it s not my groovy hairdo and careless attitude that builds this parallel, it s the fact that we re both kings of the dancefloor. Unlike John, I m no connoisseur in the art of 70 s disco, instead, I ve mastered the Latin dances of quinceaГ±eras. • 8. Percy Jackson And The Olympians Research Paper To what extent does American author Rick Riordan accurately portray the Greek gods in his series Percy Jackson and the Olympians as compared to the actual Greek myths and legends? How does Riordan characterize the gods and what effect does his portrayal of them have on the story? In the series Percy Jackson and the Olympians, author Rick Riordanjuxtaposes ancient Greek mythologywith the modern world. The series tell the story of the title character, demigod Percy Jackson and his friends as they goes on quests to, quite literally, save the world. The Greek gods have an essential role in the series as they provide help and give advice to the demigods, and, more often than not, are the root of all problems. The only major difference between Poseidon in the series and in the myths is the physical appearance. This singular trait is one of the few that actually have an effect if changed; in the series, Poseidon does not look majestic and has a more laidback and simple look and vibe. Throughout the series, Poseidon s status as a god often causes the other characters to be intimidated by him; if he were to be described as majestic in the series, he would be more imposing than he already is. In addition, he is described as wearing modern clothes in the series; if he were to lose this quality and be dressed in ancient Greek clothing, Poseidon would become less relatable to the young adult audience and the series would lose some of its modernity. One of the major obstacles Percy struggles with is learning how to approach and impress Poseidon, his father. Being able to talk to Poseidon and get advice from him helps Percy complete his quests and resolve major issues which would be more difficult to accomplish if Poseidon were any less ... Given that IBM had one of the most trusted brands around the world, this allowed Lenovo to build on past IBM s reputation. Just before the acquisition Lenovo had negotiated an Olympic sponsorship in order to introduce the world to the brand. Lenovo would also be able to continue to use the IBM logo for five years as part of the acquisition which they intended to leverage. The promotion strategy led to a three phase advertising plan. First, they ran a worldwide campaign where each ad ended with a mention of the ThinkPad instead of Lenovo to reassure customer and maintain the ThinkPad momentum. The second campaign was labeled ThinkPad Unleashed which ran during the Olympics to emphasis that the ThinkPad was being made even better. The third phase stressed that Lenovo stood for innovation which is how they intended to differentiate themselves from their competitors. • 12. An Investigation Of A Relationship Between Species... Field Report Ecology and Evolution 775317 An Investigation of a Succession Relationship between Species Diversity Vegetation Area By Chutchanok Parinyapon 1257476 20th October 2014 Abstract A field trip to Rangitoto Island was conducted to investigate a relationship between species diversity and area of vegetation patch. The study site was chosen to study the Primary Succession of plant species as it has volcanic condition. Successional sequence for plant species on Rangitoto Island was constructed, and the results show a positive directly proportional/linear relationship between the two variables. Introduction Rangitoto Island is Auckland s largest, most recent, and most distinctive, 2311 hectares Volcanic Island, located in the Hauraki Gulf of Auckland. Rangitoto Island is approximately 5.5 km wide with its unique shield volcano cone rising 259 m above sea level, a widely noticeable landmark of Auckland. The Island was formed approximately 600 years ago by a series of eruptions. • 14. Examples Of Irony In Lamb To The Slaughter In Lamb to the Slaughter the author, Roald Dahl writes about a young, pregnant woman named Mary Maloney waiting for the return of her husband. When Mr. Maloney arrives, he disrupts the usual domestic routine the couple had put in place by claiming he wants a divorce. Overcome with emotions Mary takes the audience by surprise. She kills her husband. While this may seem like a horror or tragic story. However, the ironyof it all causes the audience to view it instead, as a dark humored comedy. The title itself is ironic thought the reader doesn t realize it until the end if the story. Lambs are often seen as a symbol for purity or innocence. The title Lamb to the Slaughter would be the same as saying killing innocence or the death of purity. The irony of the title itself is that a symbol of innocence is used as a murder weapon. The irony in the story doesn t really start until the end of the second page when Mary kills her husband and then in the most calm manner says, All right... so I ve killed him (Dahl 3). Everything the reader has seen up to this point about Mary s character is that she is docile, little housewife that will do anything to make her husband happy. She eagerly awaits her husband s return from work and does everything she can to make him comfortable rushing to pour him a drink or offering to get his slippers. English Oxford Living Dictionaries In the book Animal Farm by George Orwell, Old Major, an old pig, is depicted as a good leader. A good leader puts others before themselves, is humble, willing to serve, and inspires people to do their best. Old Major is the character that exemplifies these traits. In the book, Old Major is gathering up support for a rebellion against Mr. Jones, the head farmer, in the hopes of an easier and more prosperous future. The catalyst to this increase comes mainly from an increase in assets and not a decrease in liabilities. A potential reason for this increase could be due to the fact that Microline signed a ten year note with a debt covenant stating that the company needed to maintain a current ratio of 1or the note will mature. The political system also was consisted of judges and senators in addition to the chiefs and elders. Surprisingly there were no jails and the punishment depended on the crime committed. The Hobbit, by J.R.R Tolkien is thought by some to be a piece of literature that is represented as an escapist story. But yet, the novel teaches the reader many valuable life lessons that can benefit our personal lives. Many of the characters go through changes in the story that end up changing the way they look at life, the characters themselves create emotional distress among each other and how the individual self actions change who they are. • 33. Media s Influence On Media Humans have been a focus for marketers for over 100 years and at the rise of the twentieth century, mass media became widely recognized. In a period of mass availability, people today have entry to more media outlets than ever before. According to media scholar Jean Kilbourne, the average American is exposed to over 3,000 advertisements a day and watches three years worth of television ads over the course of a lifetime (back cover). It is all around us, from the shows we watch on television, the music we listen to on the radio, and to the books and magazines we read each day. Media is the number one source for advertising. Advertising is a manipulative enterprise that uses subtle techniques to persuade consumers into accepting whatever sales pitch [that is] presented to them (Blades, Oates, and Blumberg 3). The vast majority of people do not think that advertising has any influence on them. To their surprise, this is what advertisers want the general population to believe; however, if that were true, why would companies spend over $200 billion a year on advertising (Kilbourne 33)? The media has full control to decide what the public sees and how it is portrayed. Some argue that people benefit from exposure to the media and it s advertising. The media provides us with most of our information about the political process (Buckingham 5). Carbon fibre consist of tiny filament about 5 8 mu metres in diameter. Carbon fibre mostly contains carbon bonds which are bonded together in a crystal Alignment. Expanding Child Participation in Prevention and Elimination of Child labor through Peer Education and Child Labor Monitoring (A Concept Paper) I.RATIONALE: A.BACKGROUND A survey conducted by the National Statistics Office (NSO) and international labor Organization (ILO) in 2011 estimated working children, 5 to 17 years old at 5.5 million. 3 million or 54.5 % were engaged in hazardous child labour. Under the law, child labor is defined as any form of work or economic activity performed by a child that subjects him/ her to exploitation, is harmful to health and safety, physical and mental or psychosocial development. The top three industries are agriculture, hunting, forestry, wholesale and retail, and private households. Over 60% are in agriculture while 30% are in the service sector. Families and children often times refuse to see the risks of dangerous occupation to children. They believe that it is necessary to be able to help in addressing the needs of the family. Regardless of the danger they face, children are forced into labour due to poverty and lack of available resources and services for their needs. School represent the most important means of drawing children away from labour. Known as one of the greatest American writers of the 20th century, Fitzgerald influenced many people in his lifetime. Fitzgerald explains that one should embrace whatever opportunities present themselves, even the ones that have to be found again. Similarly, Rainer Rilke, Henry Longfellow, and Walt Whitman focus on the meaning of lifeand obtainable opportunities in their works. In the poems Archaic Torso of Apollo, by Rainer Rilke, A Psalm of Life, by Henry Longfellow, and O Me! O Life! by Walt Whitman, a common theme is that one s life does not wait for them, and one must take ahold of his passions. First, Archaic Torso of Apollo, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One way A Psalm of Life develops a common theme along with Archaic Torso of Apollo and O Me! O Life! , is when the author talks about enjoyment and sorrow: But to act, that each tomorrow/ Finds us farther than today (Longfellow). It can be inferred that whatever one may do today, tomorrow will always come. The reader understands this because when the author says tomorrow finds us farther than today, it is known that tomorrow is always a day away, and will bring new ideals. This develops the theme by implying that life will move on, even if one does not. Another way A Psalm of Life, progresses the theme is through the explanation that time does not wait for anyone: Art is long, and Time is fleeting,/ And our hearts, though stout and brave, / Still, like muffled drums, are beating/ Funeral marches to the grave (Longfellow). This quote allows the reader to infer that a long life means a life full of opportunities. This is suggested through the use of the phrase time is fleeting, meaning time is going by fast, but one has a lot of it. This develops the theme by implying that life has many opportunities and one must seize them. To summarize, A Psalm of Life, by Henry Longfellow uses actions to develop ... • 39. Tess Of The D Urbervilles Color Red Essay Just as most pieces of literature, Thomas Hardy s Tess of the d Urbervilles uses different forms of symbolism throughout the novel. A prominent symbol through the novel, red is used quite often. Hardy uses it to foreshadow, warn, and hint at future events that are important to the theme and in the progression of the novel. Other symbolic devices are used, but the colorreds myriad of meanings has proven it to be the best way to trace Tess s journey. The symbolism color red is first introduced in the description of the girls whom ar attending the May Day Dance. The girls, including Tess, are wearing various shades of white. Tess, however, is wearing one piece of red; a ribbon in her hair. The insertion of the red ribbon in Tess s attire is, in a sense, a marker. It s a red flag, if you will, that indicates the beginning of Tess s condemnation. Hardy describes that by putting on a sweet faГ§ade, Tess is put under a blue narcotic haze. By doing so, Alec is able to keep Tess from thinking that he has the potential to be the one who stood fair to be the blood red ray in the spectrum of her young life. • 40. The Benefits Of Aging Population It is suggested that at the rate we are going now we won t be able to accommodate the needs of an aging population as it continually grows. I argue that this is true based on the numbers from the research I have done. I argue for the reasons of manning in health care, money, health and the economy with a large populationgetting older and ready to retire that we are going to potentially face some serious problems. At the rate our agingpopulation is growing I believe we will not have enough people and facilities to take care of the aging population once they need health care for things that come with old. The populations of most western countries are getting older, mainly the Baby Boomers, born in the 1950s and 1960s. They live longer and had fewer children than previous generations. (Irman, 2017). Population aging of this dimension is unique in world history. Because of this it will pose serious challenges for the health care systems, pension schemes, and public debt management of modern societies. (Irman, 2017), The problem is that population aging is itself a cause for a decline in both GDP and per capita GDP . (Irman, 2017, p. 3). If you have less people in the workforce than before that s less people paying taxes and buying goods and services. There could be less money going into the government and more coming out for older folks for things like Social Security and Medicare. The Uk s Constitution And The United States Unlike many other Nations with a codified constitution, the UK has no single constitutional document this means, she has no single constitutional document but whose main sources are, Acts of Parliament, Judicial decisions and Constitutional conventions. This essay looks at the features of the UK s constitution, what a written constitution entails and whether or not it would be desirable for UK to embrace codification being the only European state with an unwritten constitution. There has never been a constitutional moment at which the fundamental rules required clarification and laying down in a single document; instead, there has been an unusual continuity in the governing institutions; It has relatively been peaceful, hence, no need for a written constitution . However, this cannot be said of the codified constitutions, which tend to come about after there has been a severe rupture in the political system of the country concerned. The report pinpointed six calculated challenges terrorist threats; cyber threats; biological concerns; nuclear terrorism; transnational criminal organizations, and natural hazards which DHS feels are the most likely to occur (DHS, 2014, pg. 28). Strategic Pricing Proposal to Counter Generic Sildenafil STRATEGIC PRICING PROPOSAL TO COUNTER GENERIC SILDENAFIL We, the Viagra Senior Marketing Managers, are proposing the post patent expiration Strategic Pricing Plan to the Pfizer Executive Leadership Team for presentation at the next quarterly meeting. Viagra has been very successful since its approval in March 1998 as a first in class erectile dysfunction (ED) medication. We achieved gross revenue of $1.9 billion last year despite competition from the two other branded drugs in our market, Cialis and Levitra. As we look to the future and our patent expiration in 2020, we need to plan to face our generic competition. The goal for the Viagra post patent expiration Strategic Pricing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Year after year, we have taken advantage of our position by setting our own price rather than basing it on demand and supply equilibrium. The latest sales numbers from 2011 shows Viagra s success in having the largest market shares compared to our competitors: ED Drugs| Market Share| Sales| Viagra(Pfizer)| 45%| 1.9 B| Cialis(Eli Lilly)| 36%| 1.5 B| Levitra (Bayer AG)| 15%| 0.5 B| FUTURE OF VIAGRA Change in Demand and Supply Again, similar to Zoloft, once Viagra s patent expires, the generic competitors entering the market will force Viagra to significantly drop its price in order to remain competitive. The pricing will affect the demand which means the demand is now elastic rather than inelastic. In addition to the change in demand from inelastic to elastic, the supply curve will also shift outward quite drastically as multiple generic manufacturing firms enter the market causing the ED market to progress further into a monopolistic competitive market. Consumers Although we have achieved high profits with Viagra, we still have more opportunities to grow our market shares and maximize profits. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), approximately 30 million men in the United States are affected by ED. [5] Of those affected, 80% of those men do not seek treatment and never discuss their issues with their doctors. [6] Most men have been affected by ED at some point by the age of 45 but prevalence increase ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Character Analysis Of Elijah Weesageechak In Three Day Road In the novel Three Day Road by Joseph Boyden, Elijah Weesageechak is a very brave character who repeatedly risks his life during the war. Elijah is also a very cruel character; Thai becomes increasingly evident throughout the novel. One example of Elijah being cruel is when he shoots a young girl hiding in a crumpling building. Another example of Elijahs cruelty is when he kills Grey Eyes and Lieutenant Breech so not to get in trouble for being addicted to morphine and for committing war crimes. But then one time that Elijah shows his bravery is when he volunteers to act as bait to draw sniper fire, allowing Xavier to find and kill the sniper. Elijah killing a young girl who is hiding in a run down building is an example of him being exceptionally cruel. This happens when Elijah and his friend Xavier are sent to scout a building. Elijah ends up shooting a girl who is hiding in the building with her mother. After he shoots her he tells Xavier that he had not realized it was a little girl and that he thought she was attacking him. (306) Though Elijah said he had not meant to shoot the girl he showed no remorse for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (340) This is an especially cruel act even for Elijah, since these were people that he worked with and lived with for most of his time in the war. Grey Eyes also used to be one of Elijah s close friends. These things did not matter to Elijah though. He quickly killed them without a second thought to save himself from getting in trouble for the crimes he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 56. Lying And Deception By William Shakespeare Lying and deception have been present throughout all of human history. People lie about who they are, what they think, etc. Over the centuries the reasons for lying have stayed the same. When lying and deceiving people have always looked for some kind of reward, it can be money, fame or simply to avoid conflict. However, the methods we use to liehave changed with the creation of the internet. Even though, Shakespeare s time period had very different views on lying that those today, his book, The Taming of the Shrews, was written to teach us that even though lying is an integral part of ourselves, we must not use it to take advantage of others. Lying and deception is used in The Taming of the Shrews as a way for the characters to get into romantic relationships, and manipulate their partners. For instance, Lucentio is indicated by Tranio, his servant, to pass off as the schoolmaster/ And undertake the teaching of the maid (1.1.197 198). Lucentio decides that deceiving Bianca is his best chance at a romantic relationship with her. Deception and changing one s identity is shown to be a method at obtaining women. Likewise, many characters resort to lying as a way to control, or tame their partners. Petruchio lies to Katherina about what is real and what is not as a way to confuse her and ultimately ends up controlling her. Shakespeare portrays lying as more of a tool that is used to manipulate others, rather than an action. Seeing as most of the male characters in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
