Health Care Act Of The United States
Health care costs in the United States are higher than ever before and the issue of how much
Americans are spending on their health care is more prevalent than ever. Factors such as unhealthy
lifestyles, increasing use of medical technology, increasing costs for prescription drugs, as well as
large out of pocket premiums and lower household incomes all contribute to the high costs of
medical spending. The United Statesis the global leader in spending on health care, compared to its
European counterparts, most of whom offer various forms of universal health care to their
residents (Squires and Anderson). With the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2010, the
United States is trying its own form of universal health care in an effort... Show more content on

Compared to other developed countries with similar wealth to the United States, the U.S. spends
more per capita on healthcare than anywhere else in the world. While the United States spends
almost $9,000 per capita on healthcare, the next highest spender Switzerland spends only
slightly more than $6,000 per capita. The average amount spent in comparable countries in 2012
is $4,460, roughly half of what the U.S. spends annually (See Table 1). Since 2012, total health
care spending in the United States has increased from $2.8 trillion to about $3.1 trillion in 2014,
while per capita spending rose to $9,697 per person for the year 2014 (US Healthcare Spending).
Growth in total spending on healthcare has increased from 3.7% in 2012 to 6.1% in 2014 (US
Healthcare Spending). In 2013, the United States spent about 17% of its GDP on healthcare; the
highest of any developed country (Allen). Increases in health care spending are not necessarily due
to Americans visiting hospitals or physicians more frequently than residents in other countries.
Higher health care prices in the United States can be attributed to the increased use of medical
technology compared to other countries, the privatization of the healthcare industry, as well as a
higher use and cost of pharmaceuticals

Week Three Textbook Reflection
Week Three Textbook Reflection
The Call Os Guinness
In my reflection of The Call this week, if I were to sum it up in one word it would be
responsibility . If a call is to have any legitimacy it has to be saturated in integrity; integrity cannot
exist unless we are diligent in the responsibilities of that call.
Once your journey begins you become more and more visible to those around you; family, work
mates, church members, and neighbors. If we are to have any influence in the lives of those we
live among and mission, we MUST be responsible ministers.
We cannot live in fear of messing up but we should live as though it matters if we do. If mistakes
are or something does not turn out as planned, if we deal with it as responsible leaders ... Show

The first was the story of Arthur F Burns when asked to pray at the informal White house prayer
group, it was a classic. In this chapter, as he dealt with the responsibly we have to be Christians
out loud and on purpose, I loved the mention of the t shirt that said, Jesus, save me from your
followers . I have prayed that prayer a few times myself.
Courage and Calling Gordon T. Smith
As I read the first two chapters I could see a pattern of learning. The things discussed about life
long learning is a soap box I speak from myself. The way things change so fast; if you want to be
effective in many areas of ministry today you have to constantly learn. What we are doing in the
class in a testament to the desire we have to be equipped for the task set before us.
The following chapter shared how life teaches lessons as well. Sometimes these have a much great
price and toll on us, but ever experience is a lesson to teach and a testimony to share.
As Smith closes out his book he shares some sound information concerning we we flourish in our
ministry. A calling is sacred, the preparation for that calling in ministry is essential, but if I cannot
find a place to exercise my calling in the body of Christ I am likened to the unfaithful servant who

The Popular Culture And The Vision Of Pop Culture
The Television Vision
There are many numerous beautiful cultures in this world we all follow, one of them is called
Pop Culture. It s defined as events where a lot of people is affected and attracted by the mass
media. It s like a cultural artifact that s created by humans for information. This phenomenon began
around World War 2 times when innovations in mass media led to significant cultural and social
changes. It began to merge with the dealings of mass culture, consumer culture, image culture,
media culture and culture in general for consumption all over the world. As we carefully study the
popular culture, it helps us to better understand what the society is embracing and how the culture

People couldn t imagine their day without a news broadcast or interesting film. Therefore, television
became a very important and influential part of the culture in our daily life.
Television was created to give us better communication and give us a chance to better connect
with families or friends because most people are so busy that they do not have much time to
spend with their family and friends. It plays an important role in promoting communication
because people are more likely to become actively engaged with anything that attracts them. It
holds the possibility for people to know about numerous events happening all over the world and
to also to help try to prevent some situations in countries. Any television show or movie can
provide people with an escape from reality. Television ties to pop culture because it helps people,
find new things to endure with its rich topics. It provides people a lot of new knowledge and
learnings from many different cultures to implement in their daily lives.
Television can bring so much to the table, but it also has its positives and negatives. Television
can be negative as it contains a variety of information and we simply cannot be sure if some of that
information we get from television is true. There are many people who believe TV is responsible
for the dumbing down of society; that children watch too much television; and that it has
contributed to the obesity problem many people endure.

of stores I conducted my research on was a jewelry store, a boutique, and a cosmetics shop. I
entered the mini mall and the first store that comes into view was the jewelry store. The
information I gathered there from was 6 shoppers ended up turning right while 1 turned left. After
five minutes I glance over to my right and the next thing that comes into view was the boutique.
Soon another 5 minutes goes by and 4 people went right and none went left. Lastly, I look over at
the end of the chain of stores and spot the cosmetics shop. At the end of the 5 minutes, I saw that 5
people turned right and none turned left. If you take into consideration that about (According to

The Principles Of The Kingdom Of God
The Principles of the Kingdom of God are found abundantly within the text writings of the Gospels
and other books within the Bible. It is easy to see that the Kingdom of God came upon us when
Jesus walked the earth teaching, healing and preaching; doing the works of our Father, God
Almighty. This essay will attempt to bring to light methods which Jesusused to teach those around
him and touch on some of the aspects of the Kingdom of God. Robert Coleman (1993) listed the
methods used by Jesus as selection, association, impartation, delegation and reproduction. In this
progressive teaching method Jesus chose his disciples, associated with them and gave them a living
example. He then set them out to complete tasks based upon his teachings. This process was
eventually restarted when the disciples themselves chose students of their own.
The First Principle of the Kingdom of God The Kingdom is for the Jew first then the Gentile,
however; the Kingdom will be taken away and given to a people who will produce its fruit
(Matthew 21:43). Perhaps the Kingdom will be taken away from the Jew and given to the Gentile
to produce its fruits, to preach the Gospel to the nations, to heal the sick and continue the works of
the Father. It was in the plan from the beginning that God used the Jewish nation as a blessing to
the whole world in that All nations will be blessed through you was an Abrahamic promise given
when God called a people to be set apart for him and to

America’s Drug War Essay
The War on Drugs, like the war on Terrorism, is a war that America may not be able to afford to
win. For over forty years the United States has been fighting the War on Drugs and there is no end
in sight. It has turned into a war that is about politics and economics rather than about drugs and
criminals. The victims of this war are numerous; but perhaps they are not as numerous as those who
benefit from the war itself.
History of U.S Drug Policy:
While laws prohibiting the use of drugs, in one form or another, can be traced back to the 1870s,
it was not until 1968, when Richard M. Nixon was elected President, that our current drug war was
conceived. In 1970 Congress passed the Comprehensive Drug Abuse and Control Act.(2) With an...

to the president s Domestic Council.

On July 1, 1973 the War on Drugs was solidified with the creation of the Drug

Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs with various other law enforcement and intelligence gathering

members of organizations involved in the growing, manufacture, or distribution of controlled

Rhetorical Analysis Of Heroes By Tim O Brien
In Tim O Brien s Heroes, an eloquent speech delivered when he received an accolade, he tells a
story about a man named Elroy Birdall, the caretaker of some old yellow cabins along the Rainy
River, who took care of him for six days in the summer of 1968, during the Vietnam War. As he
gives his speech, he states that Elroy was a hero; more of a hero than the all stars. Due to his
elaboration, we can see that his message of heroism is that superior heroes are often unspoken, and
he does this with figurative language and compare contrast techniques. Throughout the speech, O
Brien provides us with much detail about Elroy, using imagery and similes. Despite Elroy being a
plain 80 year old man, O Brien describes him in such a way that brings light... Show more content

In order to push his argument further, he links many negative adjectives and adverbs to the
player. For instance, O Brien says that the player is not even an all star who goes out to give
speeches, but a player who needs to go on TV to elucidate why he can t stop striking out (277).
He does this to argue that our average people can be more heroic than eminent baseball players
and celebrity writers. He redefines bravery when he makes the comparison between Elroy and
himself. He says that Elroy was brave for making his own choices, instead running from them, like
he did, by saying that Elroy was a hero, while he wasn t for going to Vietnam(278). He shares the
negative adjectives of the baseball player and of himself, a top writer, to prove that Elroy is a
hero, and not all heroes need to we well known. In addition to this, he compares Elroy with
Abraham Lincoln s quote of you can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people
some of the time, but you can t fool all of the people all of the time (277). O Brien argues that
this quote by Lincoln did not apply to Elroy by saying that there should have been an extra clause
in the statement to account for Elroy, because Elroy hardly ever got fooled (277). While Elroy does
not fit the stereotype of the big, strong, muscular hero, he fits another

Reflection On The Cradle Catholic
With over half of the students in Xavier University s undergraduate program identifying as
Catholics, I was not surprised that I ended up with a partner who is Catholic. However, I was
surprised to hear how into the Catholic faith my partner was and how much it has influenced
him as a person. My partner was Max Foreman, and just like myself, he has been a cradle
Catholic his entire life. Cradle Catholic is a term used to basically say that since he was born he
has been Catholic because his parents were Catholic and wanted to pass their faith down to him.
As a Roman Catholic you are expected to attend Mass every Sunday and every holy day of
obligation. For just one hour a week we go to listen to the word of God, pray to God, and receive
the Eucharist, but only if you have had your First Communion. Not only did Max attend Mass
every Sunday, he was an active part of it because he was an altar server. Basically, an altar server
is the priest s first hand man while Mass is being celebrated. When I asked Max to expand more
on his experience as an altar server he told me that it allowed him to really become closer with
God and realize that the Eucharist truly is more than just a piece of bread and wine but that it
fully is the actual body and blood of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Along with being an altar
server at Mass, Max also participated in several different volunteer opportunities. Some of these
programs were run through the church and some were just everyday

to Ground Air Transfer, Inc. In 1983, they started doing business as Charter One, a Detroit based
charter tour operator providing travel packages to entertainment destinations such as Atlantic City,
Las Vegas and the Bahamas. In 1992, Charter One changed its name to Spirit Airlines; they then
began scheduling passenger service to places such as Fort Lauderdale, Detroit, Myrtle Beach, Los

Sprit airline is an oligopoly market. An oligopoly exists when a market is controlled by a small
group of firms, often because the barrier to entry is significant enough to discourage potential
competitors from entering it. As of 2014, five major airline carriers earn 70% of industry revenues,
and the barrier to entry for new companies is substantial.
Structure
There are over 5000 airlines with ICAO codes. The world s largest airline by fleet size and
passengers carried is American Airlines, operating from the United States.
In December 1995, Spirit started daily flights from Detroit to Philadelphia, with fares as low as
$49 one way. At the time, the Detroit Philadelphia market was divided between Northwest and US
Airways in a 70% 30% split. Northwest airline dropped its fare to $49 matching Spirit s fare and

density in patient, especially in those above the age of 50, leads to bones becoming weak and
therefore, there is an increased likelihood of fragility fractures. This condition is preventable and

The Failure of Democracy in Germany in the Period 1928 to 1934 Those in power in Weimar
Germany so consistently mishandled the political and economic situation leading up to the period
1928 1934, that a well structured challenge from the Nazi Party brought about the fall of
democracy. This Nazi Party was stronger ideologically, structurally within the party and politically,
with Hitler as Fuhrer a major factor himself. In addition, factions within Germany for whom a right
wing political system was more beneficial, such as the army and big business, aided the eventual
change in governance. Thus a series of events occurred which can be summarised by these three

Third, the false Golden Age of economic prosperity created by the Dawes (1924) and Young
(1929) Plans and resulting loans from the US Government the during the 1920s had come to a
close as the Great Depression hit, and unemployment rose to over 6 million in Germany. Yet, the
Weimar Government has survived the hyperinflation of the early 1920s, and therefore it is easy
to over estimate to impact of the Great Depression on the failure of democracy. The economic
situation did help to draw more voters towards the fringe parties, and create an atmosphere more
willing to foster extremist views as the Weimar Government was seen as weak and unable to
cope with Germany s problems. Thus, the first major factor attributing to the downfall of
democracy in Germany was the preceding failure of the Weimar Government politically,
structurally, and economically to take a firm hold over Germany. The Nazi Party s strength in
three main areas allowed it to precipitate the failure of democracy in Germany. Ideologically,
structurally and politically the Nazi party was superior to the Weimar Democracy especially in the

The Devices Charles Dickens Uses to Engage the Interest of...
Discuss the range of devices Charles dickens uses to engage the interest of the reader in the opening
chapters of Great Expectations
It s essential for a novel s opening to engage the reader s interest, if the opening isn t fun or
exciting they won t bother reading on. At first Great Expectations was published in magazines and
in sets of two to three chapters, he mostly ended each in series because of this with a cliff hanger,
so that the readers would be eager to find out what happened next ?
At the beginning of the novel dickens created a feeling of anxiety, yet the story opens in an

Dickens uses an interesting metaphor, The distant savage lair from which the wind was
rushing, was the sea which makes us; think about a ferocious beast attacking young Pip. Here
Dickens is showing us how creative and imaginative a young child s imagination is, in this case
it s Pip and how he thinks the wind is a beast trying to get him, which will also makes the reader
concerned too. As chapter 2 opened we saw an interesting contrast, as Pip runs in to his home
we expect it to be a safety place, we were wrong, instead it is much more dangerous than the
wilderness and the marshes because the tickler (a wax ended piece of cane, worn smooth by
collision) was being applied to him by his sister. His sister, applied Tickler to its further
investigation and then, she concluded by throwing me . The modern readers would find this very
disturbing but in Dickens time hitting children was expected to put them right , they used the
proverb in the Bible,
Spare the rod and spoil the child and this was something Victorian parents believed in and used to
discipline there children.
Charles Dickens also uses a double strand narrative for effect, this means that he sometimes uses
the younger Pip s view of the world while at other times he uses the older Pip s view in a more
distanced and ironical stance. The older Pip once looks back and realises something which he didn
t realise before and puts some irony into it,

Stamp Tax Australia
Is stamp duty an effective taxation measure in modern Australia.
Abstract: In Australia, Stamp duty have been a substantial revenue generator for the state
governments, accounts for around one fourth of their taxation revenue (Deloitte, 2015). Lately, it
has also been a most talked about topic in between investors first home buyers. Researchers have
reflected that even though these taxes are added on top of the sales price suppositively making a
difficult purchase for buyers on papers, sellers are the real loser. Based on four case studies

With the help of the econometric model, which is a hybrid of a regression discontinuity design, the
researchers exploit a natural experiment to estimate the effect of Land Transfer Tax. Consistent
with a mindset in considering a stamp duty as a tax on moving, the result of the research suggests
that this land transfer tax negatively influence the volume of real estate transaction in Toronto by
14% approximately (Dachis, Duranton Turner, 2011).
Another crucial reflected fact was that even though the tax was introduced on the buyers, it is
almost fully capitalized into land prices.
Furthermore, the loss of 14% volume of real estate transaction causes a substantial welfare loss.
This welfare loss, the cost of forgone mobility, is quite significant, about $1 for every $8 in tax
revenue raised. In other terms, it is around $19 million every year in this case (Dachis, Duranton

Torah (Nomeland 6). The Torah is the religious text of the Jewish people, and was written
around 1312 B.C. Education for deaf people took over 3,000 years for there to be public
education for the Deaf. The London Asylum for the Deaf and Dumb, another school, was opened
at Kent Road in 1792 to accept deaf children from poor families (Nomeland 17).
The deaf subculture has always seemed so interesting, American Sign Language (ASL) is so
intriguing, a personal friend is deaf and it is amazing, the fact that hearing and speaking could
change a person s culture so drastically. This essay will explain in broad terms what the deaf culture

Essay Miracles
Miracles From the Latin word miraculum meaning object of wonder enters the word miracle. Many
definitions have been formed for the notion of a miracle but most would agree that it is most
commonly an unexplainable extraordinary event, inspiring awe and wonder unto its witnesses.
Similar definitions state that it is a supernatural event, contrary to the established constitution and
course of things or a deviation from the known laws of nature.
The term a priori refers primarily to the basis on which a proposition is known. If a statement has

However, Hume s second argument puts forward, why many people will support a miracle claim,
the passion of surprise and wonder, arising from miracles being an agreeable emotion gives a
sensible tendency towards the belief of those events from which it is derived. Furthermore, Hume
explains that even those who did not enjoy that pleasure first hand yet love to partake of the
satisfaction .... And place a pride and delight in exciting the admiration of others. Hume s statement
suggests many people will have a natural tendency to suspend their reasoning when testifying to a
miracle because of the emotional effect it has on them.
Hume describes natural laws as having been established by firm and unalterable experience .
What is thought to be a miracle may be in fact a part of the world and part of the laws that we do
not fully understand yet.
Derived from the scientific understanding of the 18th century and the world, natural law was meant
to reflect the perfection of God, therefore it could not be broken. Conversely similar to miracles
natural law is left open to interpretation. Locke suggested that trust

Multicultural Counseling Critique Essay
Multicultural Counseling Critique: Counseling Utilization by Ethnic Minority College Students
Although the practice of counseling has evolved considerably since its inception, the concept of
multicultural competence remains novel. Engrossed in the lives of every clinician are underlined
biases and prejudices that act as filters in which every interaction with a clients is affected. Current
research on the topic of multicultural counseling has shown that although multicultural awareness
is on the rise there is still a remarkable gap in research regarding the use of counseling service and
outcomes for racial and ethnic minorities (Kerney,Draper, Baron, 2005). Insights such as these have
encouraged researchers to investigate multicultural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another is the potential stigma associated with the use of mental health services. Closely
associated with this stigma is the belief in seeking help from religious leaders, such as pastors, and
or priest. The authors suggest that a combination of these factors coupled with a lack of clinician
multicultural awareness, serves as a powerful force keeping individuals of ethnic and racial
backgrounds from utilizing counseling services (Kerney,Draper, Baron, 2005). Due to these factors
the researchers hypothesized that ethnic and racial minority participation in counseling services will
be lower than that of their Caucasian counterparts. Furthermore they suggest that ethnic and racial
minorities will present for counseling services with increased severity of symptomatology. Lastly
researchers propose that Caucasians students will report more positive outcomes than minority
students even when severity and number of session are controlled.
In order to test their hypothesis researchers gathered students who attended colleges that are part of
the Research Consortium of Counseling and Psychological Services, a collection of state run
institutions focused on furthering the efforts of university research. One thousand one hundred and

Internally, there has been serious strategic issues with current employment model applied by
Ryanair. Statistics shown that the average length of service for pilots is about 4.6 years and
average of 386 pilots leave Ryanair each year since 2012. This is caused by precarious nature of
their employment relationship including disrespect towards pilots and cabin crew, failure of
giving scheduled time off and working over contracted hours. In this case precarious work
condition means that many Ryanair pilots don t have fixed permanent contract. Pilots are grouped
into Irish agency companies which have between 5 and 8 pilot directors, those agency companies
then subcontract into a UK labour provider of pilots and then that UK provider provides the pilot

Symbolism In In The Time Of The Butterflies By Julia Alvarez
Rafael Trujillo s dictatorship lasted for nearly 30 years. His reign brought destruction and death
to many people living in the Dominican Republic as well as its neighbor Haiti. In the Time of the
Butterflies by Julia Alvarez depicts the story of the mirabal sisters who were living during the time
of Trujillo s regime. The Mirabal sisterswere women who tried to fight against Trujillo s evil ways
and ended up being murdered because of his thirst for power. Trujillo s reign began in the 1930 s
and ended in the early 1960 s. The story s setting takes place in the Dominican Republicduring the

In the very beginning of the novel Alvarez simply uses the blowing of wind to symbolise
something more than just wind. Alvarez writes a chill goes through her the future is now

blowing gives Dede a chill about her future (10). This foreshadows her future which is that she
will be the only member of her family that survives the untimely death of her sisters. However, at
times the descriptions of rain are very profound in Alvarez s novel. Right after this description of
Dede being afraid to be the only one left to tell their story it begins to rain. Now as ig drops of
rain had started though the night is as clear as the sound of a bell this scene foreshadows Dede s
future of being the sole survivor to become true as time passed on (10). The rain symbolises a
mysterious and frightening scenario which for Dede is being the only one who will live to tell
their story. Furthermore, Alvarez describes a scenario which involves whether to symbolize
PAtria s coming of age. Patria describes how she could see outside the window the brilliant red

Investigating The Wave Speed Of Traveling Waves On A...
ii. Experiment 7
The first part of this experiment involved calculating the wave speed of traveling waves on a
string that was bounded on both sides (i.e. one side bounded by a clamp, and the other by a pulley)
for three different tensions being applied. The wave speed was calculated using two different
methods:
1.By calculating the tension that was being applied to the string, T=(m_1+m_2 )g, where m_1 is
the mass of the hanging weight, and m_2 is the mass of the portion of the string hanging from the
pulley, and by calculating the linear mass density (Ој) of the stretched string. After finding the
tension (T), and the linear mass density (Ој), the predicted speed can be found using Equation (7.1):
v_predicted=в€
љ(T/Ој)
2.By finding the total distance that the wave traveled (L), and multiplying that by two to get the
total travel distance, and dividing that quantity by the time it takes to complete one full oscillation,
a measured wave speed can be found:
v_measured=2L/∆t
For the first method, it is necessary to know the linear mass density of the string (Ој), which can be
found by taking the total mass of the string (M), and dividing it by the total length of the string
(L_total). However, for this experiment, the string will be stretched to various lengths depending on
how much tension force is being applied by the hanging masses from the pulley. Also note that
there was no excess string hanging limply from the back of the pulley. Therefore, the linear mass
density

The Cinderella Story In La Cenerentola By Gioachini Rossini
Throughout time, the opera La Cenerentola by Gioachini Rossini has proven to be one the
composer s most famous works, as well as the most famous operatic adaptation of the Cinderella
story. However, the opera is in fact quite different from the well know fairy tale. There are certain
advantages and disadvantages to Rossini and his librettist Ferreti s setting of the piece; significant
pieces of the story are removed to make way for thoughtful substitutions. However, in the end he
manages to deliver a fresh interpretation of the tale without sacrificing the timeless charm of the
original fairy tale.
The Cinderella Story has been a classic trope in literature throughout the ages, and there are
numerous variations of the story across Africa, Asia, Persia, and even Native American
Algonquian traditions. Some cite the earliest appearance of Cinderella as far back the first
century CE with Greek Scholar Strabo s mention of the myth of Rhodopis. This story recounts a
woman whose sandal was snatched by an eagle as she bathed in the river and carried to the king
of Memphis, who immediately sought out the woman to whom the shoe belonged. However
others cite the first documented Cinderella story as the tale of Ye Xian, written by Chinese
scholar Duan Chengshi in 850 CE. In this version, Ye Xuan is gravely abused by her stepmothers
and sisters, and her only friend is a fish, which the stepmother cruelly kills and eats. However, a

Learning disabilities is a general term to describe a group of learning problems. Students with LD
are highly represented in general education classes. LD is the largest single disability area. The
cause of learning disabilities remains unknown but are believed to have been associated with some
kind of brain function. Organic, genetic, and environmental are three major factors that have been
hypothesized as possible causes. Organic factors include indications of brain differences in size or
functioning. Genetic factors include heredity, where a student with a reading/writing problem
shares the same problem with another close family member. Environmental factor includes poor
diet and nutrition as well as exposure to toxins such as alcohol smoke and drug use mostly before
birth. Individuals with learning disabilities possess a variety of characteristics that distinguish them

This is a major difference we have to consider because he belonged to the Baroque style whereas
Michelangelo belonged to the Renaissance. Michelangelo David has many major differences to
the prior designs by both Donatello and Verrocchio, they were the firsts to create a statue about
the story of David and Goliath. In both Donatello and Verrocchio s David, David is considerably
younger, compared to Michelangelo s. A major difference between Donatello and Verrocchio s
David vs. Michelangelo and Bernini s is that on the latter there is no head of Goliath in their
feet. Due to the time which latter artists belonged to, that wasn t a common. It is also important
to consider that Michelangelo s David is very unrealistic. Due to the fact that he was going to be
placed outside in a plaza, the design was made to be looked at from the bottom to the top. The
statue has a very large head and particularly big hands in comparison to an actual person s. It was
very uncommon for Michelangelo to do this. Bernini s David on the other hand is life sized,
meaning it doesn t share Michelangelo s features of exaggerated body parts. Michelangelo s

The Road Networks Across China Essay
The map below shows an overview of the road networks across china. It is clearly understandable
from the graph that eastern part of China is mostly covered through a huge networks and
channels of roads and highways. Contrarily, the western parts of China are still to be developed
though roads and highway networks. The differences are based on the fact that the eastern parts
being close to the sea act as the main hub for transportation of tradable goods as most of the
transportation is carried out through the sea routes and harbors. The freight of tradable goods has
increased enormously in recent years and thus the economic activities and burden on the harbors

The Debate Over The Internet
The Internet in the year 2009. We send e mails, make calls over the internet and discuss topics
we take an interest in. Even our banking is going virtual. But what we take for granted today
was only a vague idea fifty years ago. In order to understand how we got this far Let s go back to
1957, when everything began. Before 1957 computers only worked on one task at a time. This is
called batch processing. Of course, this was quite ineffective. With computers getting bigger and
bigger they had to be stored in special cooled rooms. But then the developers couldn t work directly
on the computers anymore specialists had to be called in to connect them. Programming at that
time meant a lot of manual work and the indirect connection to the computers led to a lot of bugs,
wasting time and fraying the developersВґ nerves. The year 1957 marked a big change. A remote
connection had to be installed so the developers could work directly on the computers. At the
same time the idea of time sharing came up. This is the first concept in computer technology to
share the processing power of one computer with multiple users. On October 4th 1957, during the
Cold War The first unmanned satellite, Sputnik 1, was sent into orbit by the Soviet Union. The
fear of a Missile Gap emerged. In order to secure America s lead in technology, the US founded
the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency in February 1958. At that time, knowledge was

In recent years, this development has been recognized to constitute an affective turn. Although,
effectivity remains understudied in migration and media studies.Migration and media studies have
predominantly focused on issues of representation such as framing and identity construction. The
goal is to contribute to these gaps in the literature by taking YouTube video viewing practices as a
starting point to address the overlap between affectivity and media use experiences across
transnational/local spaces. The affective encounter of bodies with media objects shifts attention
from understanding viewing as processes of meaning making towards recognizing them as
experiences that matter. In conclusion cultural theorists are increasingly taking bodily sensations
more seriously and a substantial amount of critical scholarship is emerging that probes the cultural
politics of emotions which has led to these YouTube

The Purpose of Caliban in The Tempest Essay
The Purpose of Caliban in The Tempest
One of the indispensable themes displayed in The Tempest is the duality of nature and society.
This is made apparent through the character of Caliban. Caliban is a dis figured fish like creature
that inhabits the island where the play The Tempest, takes place.
Caliban is the son a witch hag, and the only native on the island. In Caliban s first speech, he
suggests that Prospero stole the island from him. (Act 1, Scene 1, line 331 342)
This island s mine by Sycorax my mother
Which thou tak st from me. When thou camest first,
Caliban is a servant to Prospero, the right duke of Milan. Caliban is a monstrous, and ugly creature.
He is often referred to as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He hears thunder and hides; he fears that Prospero may have heard him.
Caliban is disliked among the island. He is repeatedly mocked and tormented. In Act 2, scene 2,
Trinculo repeatedly makes jokes of Caliban. Caliban does not like this and 3 different time replies,
(Act 2 scene 2 line 61)
Do not torment me prithee
Although in a drunken state, Caliban shows a sensitive and amusing side. He sonnets poetry, while
Trinculo mocks him and thinks he is ridiculous. (Act 3 sc 1 line 114 115)
I have seen thee in herm and I do adore thee
My mistress show d me thee, and thy dog, and the bush
This sensitive and noble side is briefly visible to the audience. Both, Prospero and Miranda see his
noble side, but do not acknowledge it at all. Although we briefly see a sensitive side to Caliban, it
is turned to gray when he becomes ignorant.
Caliban turns hate and dislike into murderous and devious plans. Caliban had a plan to plot out
Prospero s death. He informs the others that Prospero takes a nap, and that it would be best to
kill him in his sleep. We also learn here that he is similar to Miranda. Miranda has never seen
another man except her father, and Caliban has never seen another woman except his mother. In
some ways this is ironic. (Act 3, scene 2 line 75 89)
Why, as I told thee, tis a custom with hime

The Pros And Cons Of Genetic Editing And Human Cloning
The humanity of the human future is in our hands. Humans as a species have innovated the world.
Leading to modern medicine, which continues daily becoming ever more powerful against disease
and death, due to the bewildering achievements in the fields of biomedical science and technology.
The groundbreaking achievements in these field have made things possible, which people
thousands of years ago, could only dream of. The present and future advances in genetic and
reproductive technologies, in neuroscience and psychopharmacology, and in the development of
artificial organs and computer chip implants for human brains, we now recognize new uses for
biomedical power that goes beyond the traditional medical goals of healing disease and relieving
suffering. Medicine has grown a new branch for genetic editing and human cloning, which should
be banned and tightly regulated due to the threat it poses to humanity.

Kass the chance for survival is not the ideal for human testing. Additionally, for a child to be
created it takes nine months of human programming within the cells as opposed to gene editing

technologies will not be fully seen until the child grows. The rapid reprogramming of the cell could

Positive Effects Of The Green Revolution
The term Green Revolution was first used in 1968 when people realized that a revolution in
agriculture was taking place. In this revolution many technology transfer initiatives were created
which led to a drastic increase of production worldwide as well as innovative ideas that created
large supplies of food very quickly. Incorporating technological ideas such as mechanization,
which led to the massive increase of production of food at the expense of creating larger but
fewer farms, is what really gave headway to the mass production of food. With the creation of so
much food there needed to be advancements in the way we grew our food such as synthetic
fertilizers, pesticides, and GMOs. With these technological changes in the way food was farmed
and produced many people were able to benefit from the outcomes of the Green Revolution. The
food was able to be made and sold so cheaply that the revolution, to some degree, helped alleviate
world hunger by providing people with food that diversified their diet. However, with these changes
in agriculturecame changes in the socio economy. Many small farms went into debt and lost their
land while the wealthier farms were able to grow the amount of land they had, thereby giving rise
to new ways of farming, like monoculture farming. Overall, the Green Revolution changed the
world in both positive and negative ways. By using new and old technologies to create a system
where food could be made cheaply and at large quantities, we see many

Child Care Affordable For Everyone
One major problem families in the U.S. are facing is the expensive costs of child care. No matter
if parents are having their first child or adding another one to the mix, parents should be able to
enjoy their newest addition without having to worry about how they are going to pay for quality
child care. The answer may not be as simple as having one parent stay home, while the other
works, especially if the parent is single and does not have anyone else to help watch their child.
Families all across the country are struggling to afford child care, I contend the government better
subsidize child care, offering the subsidyas a savings account to be used to pay for the child s care

Whitehurst found a way the government could have more capital to be able to assist more
families. According to Whitehurst, who wrote Why the Federal Government Should Subsidize
Child Care and How to Pay for It published by Brookings Institution Press in March 2017,
discusses how charitable deductions benefit the wealthier donors by allowing them to receive up to
half of their annual income in deductions. For example, if a charitable donor makes an annual
taxable income of 2 million dollars, they can receive a tax deduction of up to 1 million dollars. That
is a lot of money being given back to people who are giving out donations. The government should
not give out such large tax deductions for donating to charities and organizations such as hospitals,
educational facilities, and art institutions. If the government decreases the amounts of tax
deductions to the wealthy contributors, they can have more funds to spend on childcare making it
more affordable for hardworking parents just trying to provide for their

The Sorrows of Young Werther Essay
In The Sorrows of Young Werther by Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe, Lotte has been seen as
responsible for Werther s fate. There are many ways through which Lotte s behavior around
Werther fuels his romantic obsession with her. Lotte continuously shows inappropriate affections
towards Werther throughout the novel. Examples which show her affection for him are dancing
the Waltz, the gift of the pink ribbon, and the bird beak kissing incident. Lotte leads Werther to
believe she loves him by touching his hands, gazing at him, calling him dear, she entices him as
well by requesting that he come to visit with her daily. Readers can also see Lotte s improper

The closeness of this dance leads Werther to think himself to be on intimate terms with this
woman whom he has just met. Shortly after the partners dance, the Klopstock moment between
the two, and Lotte s hand resting on his gives Werther a profound sense of admiration for Lotte.
Then, Werther and Lotte begin to see each other frequently, causing Werther s romantic
obsession to grow. Werther, who is smitten by Lotte s every move, is led to believe that his
feelings are being reciprocated. He looks forward to seeing her, and Lotte edges him on by
requesting that he come to see her again, You will come tomorrow, won t you? (56). It is Lotte
and not Werther who suggests the daily visits, thus sending the message that she wants to visit
so frequently with him. An engaged woman who spends so much of her time with another man
at the time would be likely to arouse the suspicions of others, as well as the imagination of
Werther. Her desire to see him makes it impossible for him to leave, even with the presence of
Albert, for he continues to feel the need to be close to her, I keep a careful watch for times when
he is busy elsewhere; and whoosh! there I am, and I m always happy to find her on her own (57).

Definition Of Social Rules In Jane Austen s Pride And...
The novel Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen, is set in a world with very strict social rules. In
her essay Austen s Blush, Mary Ann O Farrell analyzes the breaking of these rules, or incivility, in
the novel. She refers to public incivility as exposure, where the character s inappropriate actions are
visible by many people. She uses mortification and embarrassmentinterchangeably as the
uncomfortable feelings experienced by socially aware characters when social rules are broken, and
divides these feelings into two parts, the buildup as transgressions are being made and the release
when the situation is escaped or resolved. Blushingis the physical act that reflects these feelings of
mortification and embarrassment, one of the few socially acceptable actions that reveal a person s
true feelings. O Farrell disagrees with George Henry Lewis criticism that Austen misses [...] many
of the subtle connections between physical and mental organization (O Farrell 127), instead
arguing that Austen uses physical changes to indicate her characters mental states, in particular
using blushes as natural and involuntary signals of embarrassment, vexation, anger, or love (O
Farrell 128). O Farrell argues in her aptly titled Austen s Blush that that the incivility of
embarrassment, which blushing indicates, in Pride and Prejudice, is necessary for the progression of
the plot, the connections between the characters, and the experience of the reader. O Farrell
identifies

Example Of My Greatest Achievement
Some of the greatest successes I have experienced during my school year were being in Honor
Society, being awarded a 4.0 G.P.A medal and being awarded the Spirit of Chelan certificate.
Ever since I was in elementary school I strived to be a good student. My father was my main
motivator I wanted him to feel proud of me. After my father passed away I made him a promise
to always give my best and get straight A s. When I was awarded a 4.0 medal I felt the happiest
girl alive. Not because I had gotten good grades , but because I was keeping my dad the promise
I made him . I still mark this as the greatest success in my life. The second greatest achievement
was being part of Honor Society. Through Honor Society I was able to bond with my community
and meet various people. I was able to help in the Chelan Valley Hope and provide food and
resources to low income families. Lastly, being nominated and awarded for the Spirit of Chelan
award. Spirit of Chelan award is awarded to a person who shows outstanding leadership.
Someone who represents the Chelan Valley responsibly and respectfully. This meant a lot to me
because I felt like I was contributing to my community in a positive way. I felt proud that all my
hard work was all worth it. Some of the struggles I experience is being able to manage my
homework with helping my family financially. Currently I struggle with managing my time
efficiently. After college I go and babysit 4 kids until 10 pm. I find myself often doing my

Compare And Contrast Nude Vs Nude
Nakedness and Nudity are often used interchangeably. In Nude versus Naked, John Berger
separates them and finds distinguishable differences between them both. He had said that to be
naked is to be natural without clothes and pure in oneself and seen as such, while nude is to be
naked but not to be seen as one s self. All that is nude consequently, is considered naked but not all
that is naked can be nude.
Nakedness is the natural form of undress to be seen as is; while Nudity brings about implications
and accordingly suggests numerous underlying factors that add on to the view of the spectators on
the art presented to them. As we understand the view of art and in determining how one is Nude
and the other Naked, It is of necessity to understand a bit of background on art, how it is regarded
and seen, and its exhibition in the Philippines

creation of these objects was a way of life rather than just something made for the pleasure of

when the production of proto art galleries had begun. If one were to find a venue that would be

The novel, Neuromancer is classified under the genre of Cyberpunk, which implies that the novel is

the United States. However, vengeance drives him to take part in his family s illegal actions
that he once wanted to be separated from. While he is reluctant to take on such responsibilities,
initially not feeling fully reconciled when he works for his father, he shows that he can be cold

a decisive individual, and is able to command respect. Thus, Vito is able to let him take charge.
Michael can represent two character archetypes: the child of an immigrant seeking the American
dream and the fallen hero. The American dream has a variety of meanings to different people,
but in this case, it would mean that Michael is working to achieve success much like his parents
did. It is recognized that the cost of working towards success comes at a price, but this is where
the fallen hero trope comes into play. When Michael decides to seek revenge, he works for the
Mafia and believes he is a sacrificial hero to the family he s trying to raise, slaving away for their
sake. He had good intentions; he only wanted to bring legitimacy to his family. Rather than the
results being that they were safe and well off, this leads him to lose his wife and children,

  • 2. Health Care Act Of The United States Health care costs in the United States are higher than ever before and the issue of how much Americans are spending on their health care is more prevalent than ever. Factors such as unhealthy lifestyles, increasing use of medical technology, increasing costs for prescription drugs, as well as large out of pocket premiums and lower household incomes all contribute to the high costs of medical spending. The United Statesis the global leader in spending on health care, compared to its European counterparts, most of whom offer various forms of universal health care to their residents (Squires and Anderson). With the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2010, the United States is trying its own form of universal health care in an effort... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Compared to other developed countries with similar wealth to the United States, the U.S. spends more per capita on healthcare than anywhere else in the world. While the United States spends almost $9,000 per capita on healthcare, the next highest spender Switzerland spends only slightly more than $6,000 per capita. The average amount spent in comparable countries in 2012 is $4,460, roughly half of what the U.S. spends annually (See Table 1). Since 2012, total health care spending in the United States has increased from $2.8 trillion to about $3.1 trillion in 2014, while per capita spending rose to $9,697 per person for the year 2014 (US Healthcare Spending). Growth in total spending on healthcare has increased from 3.7% in 2012 to 6.1% in 2014 (US Healthcare Spending). In 2013, the United States spent about 17% of its GDP on healthcare; the highest of any developed country (Allen). Increases in health care spending are not necessarily due to Americans visiting hospitals or physicians more frequently than residents in other countries. Higher health care prices in the United States can be attributed to the increased use of medical technology compared to other countries, the privatization of the healthcare industry, as well as a higher use and cost of pharmaceuticals ... • 3. Week Three Textbook Reflection Week Three Textbook Reflection The Call Os Guinness In my reflection of The Call this week, if I were to sum it up in one word it would be responsibility . If a call is to have any legitimacy it has to be saturated in integrity; integrity cannot exist unless we are diligent in the responsibilities of that call. Once your journey begins you become more and more visible to those around you; family, work mates, church members, and neighbors. If we are to have any influence in the lives of those we live among and mission, we MUST be responsible ministers. We cannot live in fear of messing up but we should live as though it matters if we do. If mistakes are or something does not turn out as planned, if we deal with it as responsible leaders ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first was the story of Arthur F Burns when asked to pray at the informal White house prayer group, it was a classic. In this chapter, as he dealt with the responsibly we have to be Christians out loud and on purpose, I loved the mention of the t shirt that said, Jesus, save me from your followers . I have prayed that prayer a few times myself. Courage and Calling Gordon T. Smith As I read the first two chapters I could see a pattern of learning. The things discussed about life long learning is a soap box I speak from myself. The way things change so fast; if you want to be effective in many areas of ministry today you have to constantly learn. What we are doing in the class in a testament to the desire we have to be equipped for the task set before us. The following chapter shared how life teaches lessons as well. Sometimes these have a much great price and toll on us, but ever experience is a lesson to teach and a testimony to share. As Smith closes out his book he shares some sound information concerning we we flourish in our ministry. A calling is sacred, the preparation for that calling in ministry is essential, but if I cannot find a place to exercise my calling in the body of Christ I am likened to the unfaithful servant who buried his ... The types of stores I conducted my research on was a jewelry store, a boutique, and a cosmetics shop. I entered the mini mall and the first store that comes into view was the jewelry store. The information I gathered there from was 6 shoppers ended up turning right while 1 turned left. After five minutes I glance over to my right and the next thing that comes into view was the boutique. Soon another 5 minutes goes by and 4 people went right and none went left. Lastly, I look over at the end of the chain of stores and spot the cosmetics shop. At the end of the 5 minutes, I saw that 5 people turned right and none turned left. • 8. The Principles Of The Kingdom Of God The Principles of the Kingdom of God are found abundantly within the text writings of the Gospels and other books within the Bible. It is easy to see that the Kingdom of God came upon us when Jesus walked the earth teaching, healing and preaching; doing the works of our Father, God Almighty. This essay will attempt to bring to light methods which Jesusused to teach those around him and touch on some of the aspects of the Kingdom of God. Robert Coleman (1993) listed the methods used by Jesus as selection, association, impartation, delegation and reproduction. In this progressive teaching method Jesus chose his disciples, associated with them and gave them a living example. He then set them out to complete tasks based upon his teachings. This process was eventually restarted when the disciples themselves chose students of their own. The First Principle of the Kingdom of God The Kingdom is for the Jew first then the Gentile, however; the Kingdom will be taken away and given to a people who will produce its fruit (Matthew 21:43). Perhaps the Kingdom will be taken away from the Jew and given to the Gentile to produce its fruits, to preach the Gospel to the nations, to heal the sick and continue the works of the Father. It was in the plan from the beginning that God used the Jewish nation as a blessing to the whole world in that All nations will be blessed through you was an Abrahamic promise given when God called a people to be set apart for him and to ... It has turned into a war that is about politics and economics rather than about drugs and criminals. The victims of this war are numerous; but perhaps they are not as numerous as those who benefit from the war itself. History of U.S Drug Policy: While laws prohibiting the use of drugs, in one form or another, can be traced back to the 1870s, it was not until 1968, when Richard M. • 10. Rhetorical Analysis Of Heroes By Tim O Brien In Tim O Brien s Heroes, an eloquent speech delivered when he received an accolade, he tells a story about a man named Elroy Birdall, the caretaker of some old yellow cabins along the Rainy River, who took care of him for six days in the summer of 1968, during the Vietnam War. As he gives his speech, he states that Elroy was a hero; more of a hero than the all stars. Due to his elaboration, we can see that his message of heroism is that superior heroes are often unspoken, and he does this with figurative language and compare contrast techniques. Throughout the speech, O Brien provides us with much detail about Elroy, using imagery and similes. In order to push his argument further, he links many negative adjectives and adverbs to the player. For instance, O Brien says that the player is not even an all star who goes out to give speeches, but a player who needs to go on TV to elucidate why he can t stop striking out (277). He does this to argue that our average people can be more heroic than eminent baseball players and celebrity writers. He redefines bravery when he makes the comparison between Elroy and himself. He says that Elroy was brave for making his own choices, instead running from them, like he did, by saying that Elroy was a hero, while he wasn t for going to Vietnam(278). He shares the negative adjectives of the baseball player and of himself, a top writer, to prove that Elroy is a hero, and not all heroes need to we well known. In addition to this, he compares Elroy with Abraham Lincoln s quote of you can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can t fool all of the people all of the time (277). O Brien argues that this quote by Lincoln did not apply to Elroy by saying that there should have been an extra clause in the statement to account for Elroy, because Elroy hardly ever got fooled (277). • 11. Reflection On The Cradle Catholic With over half of the students in Xavier University s undergraduate program identifying as Catholics, I was not surprised that I ended up with a partner who is Catholic. However, I was surprised to hear how into the Catholic faith my partner was and how much it has influenced him as a person. My partner was Max Foreman, and just like myself, he has been a cradle Catholic his entire life. Cradle Catholic is a term used to basically say that since he was born he has been Catholic because his parents were Catholic and wanted to pass their faith down to him. As a Roman Catholic you are expected to attend Mass every Sunday and every holy day of obligation. For just one hour a week we go to listen to the word of God, pray to God, and receive the Eucharist, but only if you have had your First Communion. Not only did Max attend Mass every Sunday, he was an active part of it because he was an altar server. Basically, an altar server is the priest s first hand man while Mass is being celebrated. When I asked Max to expand more on his experience as an altar server he told me that it allowed him to really become closer with God and realize that the Eucharist truly is more than just a piece of bread and wine but that it fully is the actual body and blood of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Along with being an altar server at Mass, Max also participated in several different volunteer opportunities. Some of these programs were run through the church and some were just everyday ... The Failure of Democracy in Germany in the Period 1928 to 1934 Those in power in Weimar Germany so consistently mishandled the political and economic situation leading up to the period 1928 1934, that a well structured challenge from the Nazi Party brought about the fall of democracy. This Nazi Party was stronger ideologically, structurally within the party and politically, with Hitler as Fuhrer a major factor himself. As chapter 2 opened we saw an interesting contrast, as Pip runs in to his home we expect it to be a safety place, we were wrong, instead it is much more dangerous than the wilderness and the marshes because the tickler (a wax ended piece of cane, worn smooth by collision) was being applied to him by his sister. His sister, applied Tickler to its further investigation and then, she concluded by throwing me . The modern readers would find this very disturbing but in Dickens time hitting children was expected to put them right , they used the proverb in the Bible, Spare the rod and spoil the child and this was something Victorian parents believed in and used to discipline there children. Experiment 7 The first part of this experiment involved calculating the wave speed of traveling waves on a string that was bounded on both sides (i.e. one side bounded by a clamp, and the other by a pulley) for three different tensions being applied. The wave speed was calculated using two different methods: 1.By calculating the tension that was being applied to the string, T=(m_1+m_2 )g, where m_1 is the mass of the hanging weight, and m_2 is the mass of the portion of the string hanging from the pulley, and by calculating the linear mass density (Ој) of the stretched string. After finding the tension (T), and the linear mass density (Ој), the predicted speed can be found using Equation (7.1): v_predicted=в€ љ(T/Ој) 2.By finding the total distance that the wave traveled (L), and multiplying that by two to get the total travel distance, and dividing that quantity by the time it takes to complete one full oscillation, a measured wave speed can be found: v_measured=2L/∆t For the first method, it is necessary to know the linear mass density of the string (Ој), which can be found by taking the total mass of the string (M), and dividing it by the total length of the string (L_total). However, for this experiment, the string will be stretched to various lengths depending on how much tension force is being applied by the hanging masses from the pulley. • 30. The Cinderella Story In La Cenerentola By Gioachini Rossini Throughout time, the opera La Cenerentola by Gioachini Rossini has proven to be one the composer s most famous works, as well as the most famous operatic adaptation of the Cinderella story. However, the opera is in fact quite different from the well know fairy tale. There are certain advantages and disadvantages to Rossini and his librettist Ferreti s setting of the piece; significant pieces of the story are removed to make way for thoughtful substitutions. However, in the end he manages to deliver a fresh interpretation of the tale without sacrificing the timeless charm of the original fairy tale. The Cinderella Story has been a classic trope in literature throughout the ages, and there are numerous variations of the story across Africa, Asia, Persia, and even Native American Algonquian traditions. Some cite the earliest appearance of Cinderella as far back the first century CE with Greek Scholar Strabo s mention of the myth of Rhodopis. This story recounts a woman whose sandal was snatched by an eagle as she bathed in the river and carried to the king of Memphis, who immediately sought out the woman to whom the shoe belonged. However others cite the first documented Cinderella story as the tale of Ye Xian, written by Chinese scholar Duan Chengshi in 850 CE. In this version, Ye Xuan is gravely abused by her stepmothers and sisters, and her only friend is a fish, which the stepmother cruelly kills and eats. However, a magical spirit appears from the fish bones, granting Ye ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But what we take for granted today was only a vague idea fifty years ago. In order to understand how we got this far Let s go back to 1957, when everything began. Before 1957 computers only worked on one task at a time. This is called batch processing. Of course, this was quite ineffective. With computers getting bigger and bigger they had to be stored in special cooled rooms. But then the developers couldn t work directly on the computers anymore specialists had to be called in to connect them. Programming at that time meant a lot of manual work and the indirect connection to the computers led to a lot of bugs, wasting time and fraying the developersВґ nerves. The year 1957 marked a big change. A remote connection had to be installed so the developers could work directly on the computers. At the same time the idea of time sharing came up. This is the first concept in computer technology to share the processing power of one computer with multiple users. On October 4th 1957, during the Cold War The first unmanned satellite, Sputnik 1, was sent into orbit by the Soviet Union. The fear of a Missile Gap emerged. In this revolution many technology transfer initiatives were created which led to a drastic increase of production worldwide as well as innovative ideas that created large supplies of food very quickly. Incorporating technological ideas such as mechanization, which led to the massive increase of production of food at the expense of creating larger but fewer farms, is what really gave headway to the mass production of food. With the creation of so much food there needed to be advancements in the way we grew our food such as synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and GMOs. With these technological changes in the way food was farmed and produced many people were able to benefit from the outcomes of the Green Revolution. The food was able to be made and sold so cheaply that the revolution, to some degree, helped alleviate world hunger by providing people with food that diversified their diet. • 49. Definition Of Social Rules In Jane Austen s Pride And... The novel Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen, is set in a world with very strict social rules. In her essay Austen s Blush, Mary Ann O Farrell analyzes the breaking of these rules, or incivility, in the novel. She refers to public incivility as exposure, where the character s inappropriate actions are visible by many people. She uses mortification and embarrassmentinterchangeably as the uncomfortable feelings experienced by socially aware characters when social rules are broken, and divides these feelings into two parts, the buildup as transgressions are being made and the release when the situation is escaped or resolved. Blushingis the physical act that reflects these feelings of mortification and embarrassment, one of the few socially acceptable actions that reveal a person s true feelings. O Farrell disagrees with George Henry Lewis criticism that Austen misses [...] many of the subtle connections between physical and mental organization (O Farrell 127), instead arguing that Austen uses physical changes to indicate her characters mental states, in particular using blushes as natural and involuntary signals of embarrassment, vexation, anger, or love (O Farrell 128). O Farrell argues in her aptly titled Austen s Blush that that the incivility of embarrassment, which blushing indicates, in Pride and Prejudice, is necessary for the progression of the plot, the connections between the characters, and the experience of the reader.
