1. Water Shortage Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of water shortage is a challenging endeavor that demands a
comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted issues surrounding this global crisis. Tackling
such a complex subject requires in-depth research, critical analysis, and a keen awareness of the
interconnected environmental, social, and economic factors at play.
One of the primary difficulties lies in navigating through the vast array of information available
on water scarcity. Sorting through scientific studies, statistical data, and scholarly articles to
distill relevant and reliable information can be a time-consuming process. Moreover,
understanding the diverse perspectives on this issue, ranging from environmental concerns to
socioeconomic impacts, adds another layer of complexity.
The essay must not only present the causes and consequences of water shortage but also delve
into potential solutions. This involves exploring technological advancements, policy changes, and
community-driven initiatives aimed at mitigating the water crisis. Striking a balance between
optimism and realism is crucial, as solutions need to be both aspirational and feasible.
Additionally, conveying the urgency of addressing water scarcity without succumbing to a
pessimistic tone presents a delicate challenge. The essay must inspire action without
overwhelming the reader with a sense of helplessness. This requires finesse in language and a
strategic organization of ideas to maintain a coherent and persuasive argument.
Furthermore, addressing the global nature of water shortage requires an awareness of cultural,
geopolitical, and regional nuances. The essay should avoid oversimplification and consider the
unique challenges faced by different communities around the world.
In conclusion, writing an essay on water shortage is a daunting task that demands a nuanced
approach to a complex and urgent global issue. It requires extensive research, critical thinking,
and effective communication to present a well-rounded perspective. Despite the difficulties,
tackling such topics is essential for raising awareness and fostering dialogue on issues that
impact our shared future.

2. Book Report On Kenan s List
Kenan Trebničević was living in Bosnia during the time of the ethnic cleansing
that happened. In his book, The Bosnia List, Kenan tells about his experience with
the war that him and his family had to live through. Kenan had very skeptical
views about how his homeland turned out to be after the war, but once he traveled
back to Bosnia with his family his perspective was greatly changed. Kenan was
about thirty years old when he decided he was going to make a list of all of the
things that he wanted to do when he got back to Bosnia. After traveling back, he
soon realized that things were much different than he anticipated, and he decided to
make a new list. When Kenan made his original list it had a lot of hate in it. The first

So, when he started to make his new list he thought it was difficult to think of the
good among the evil (Trebinčević 296). When he sat down and really thought
about it, there were just enough people there to help him and his family stay alive
and to escape the horrible life they were living (Trebinčević 296). The first item
on Kenan s new list was, Thank God for Obren, who warned Dad and Mujo away
from the Partizan Sports Hall (Trebničević 297). The Partizan Sports Hall was a
popular place that Kenan and his family occupied a lot. This is the place that
Kenan was able to learn karate as a child from his coach Pero. But, it was also a
place where innocent people were being taken during the ethnic cleansing that
happened in Bosnia. It was very important that Obren was there to warn Kenan s
father and his friend to steer clear of this place now, otherwise they probably would
have been killed right

4. The Philosophy Of Political Science
Ohlone College The philosopher, Thomas Hobbes, started out with the philosophy of
political science while on his trips and visits neighboring countries outside of England
to listen to other scientists discuss and learn about different forms of government.
While studying, Thomas Hobbes wondered about why people allow themselves to
become ruled by the governmentand would be the ideal form of government best for
England. He answered that questioned by stating that since people were naturally
wicked and shouldn t become trusted to govern themselves because they were selfish
creatures and would do anything to better their position and social status, it would be
best to have an absolute monarchy, which would stop the people when left alone to
go back to their own evil impulse to be led into the right direction and leadership to
make sure the country doesn t go into turmoil. To support this viewpoint, Thomas
Hobbesasked the question, If men are naturally in a state of war, why are they
carrying arms and need keys to lock their doors. In other words, even when the
country is at peace, people are still using things which can get them a better
advantage over others and keeping their own interests a secret from others arms to
protect their interests and a lock to lock away their secrets so no one can get to it.
According to Thomas Hobbes, the reason that this is the case is because people are
selfish and evil and that they must protect their interests

In his seminal lecture on Modernism in Architecture at McGill University School of
Architecture on 21 October 2000, Arthur Erickson espoused Modernism as an artistic
movement that released [society] from the constraints of everything that had gone

in modernist literature contributed significantly to an intimate presentation of the
texture or process of structure of knowing and perceiving (Lye, 1997). Albert Einstein

experience is both a subjective and an intrapersonal experience. Einstein s concept of

6. The Fate of Our Homeless Animals
In our world today, there are countless numbers of homeless animals. Every year,
millions of animals are abused. Of those, thousands don t make it. According to the
UN, 200 species go extinct every day. In the US alone, more than 1 million animals
are run over every day. These are just some the cruel realities that exist in our current
state. It may be too late for some, but there is still time, still hope for others. We need
to invest more in preventing animal crueltybefore it s too late. We need to speak for
those who don t have a voice of their own.
First, animals that are used for our entertainment are inhumanely abused. When I
was younger, I always dreamed of going to the circus. Seeing clowns and their
funny acts, but most of all, I wanted to see the elephants do their amazing tricks. I
never did get to go to the circus, but now I have lost all desire to. Once I learned
what really was going on, I was outraged. Elephants are dragged away from their
mothers shortly after birth and chained for up to 100 hours at a time. Tricks are
learned by binding them with ropes, using bull hooks, and even electric shockers on
their head. Orcas from SeaWorld are captured from their natural habitat, and those
that aren t taken away are killed. In the wild, orcas can live up to 100 years, but in
captivity, the average age is only nine. In the wild, dolphins and whales usually

Emily had depression and was dealing with it in her own way by closing herself off.
Looks could be very deceiving and in this case, Emily surprised the town when she
died. The townspeople realized that there was more to her than they thought and
were quick to judge. The protagonist in this story is Emily Grierson. Her family is
considered to be superior than others in the town and are well respected. Her father
left the house for Emily and did not need to pay for taxes. Her father was controlling
and believed that no man was suitable for her, so did not let her build any
relationships with anyone. Emily s father passing was a devastating loss and
caused Emily to become depressed. After her father s death she went out very
little; after her sweetheart went away, people hardly saw her at all (story). Due to
her father always trying to control her, she was 40 with no kids and single. Her life
had been taken over by time, causing her tension in life. When her father passed,
she was now looking for partner, but it was past her time. She did not like the help
of outsiders, causing her to act in an uncanny manner. She did not accept the fact
that her father had died for three days and shut herself out to others. Due to her
living in existence, society found her interesting, but inappropriate. Emily is in
conflict with society. They closely observe her, gossip and judge. The townspeople
are aware of her room upstairs, but no one does anything. They believed that her
8. Female Discrimination And Domestic Violence
Argument
ABC News main argument throughout the reports was strongly about female
discrimination in workplace and the cause of the issue. Inequality issues such as pay
gap significantly affect female graduates. A report showed that some industries
suffer a larger gender pay gap than others. The pay inequality was then argued to
stem from a lack of women in Parliament. The lack of women representatives was
witnessed to have a direct impact on workplace discrimination and domestic violence.
Due to an image that women are lesser in the workforce, women have been
portrayed as weak and reliant on men. Furthermore, a survey showed that men and
employees without children are preferred by employers. So, as the gender pay gap
increases, the likelihood of gender equality would increase; thus ABC News hinted
for Government to take action to mediate the issue.
As of 2013, female graduates earn $5,000 less than male graduates, an increase of
$3,000 from the previous year. GradStats report, in 2012 showed that men s starting
salaries increased to $55,000 while women s salaries remained at $50,000. The pay
gap differs between professions. The highest gap was recorded in architecture and
building, with men receiving $52,000 compared to $43,000. Dentistry was the second
highest with women expected to earn at least $14,000 less than men in the first year.
The pay gap is evident throughout all occupations except three that men and women
earn the same education, humanities and medicine.

very appropriate for the type of place they represent, but in my opinion the use of
color is what makes The Frist s design more inviting as opposed to that of the
National Gallery of Art.
For museum websites exhibition information is the heart of the website. When
navigating these links on the two sites they are notably similar. Both websites
categorize their exhibition information in subcategories equally including current,
upcoming, past, and traveling as categories. Each one of these categories contains
information and dates about what is or was on display. They also include
photographic samples of the art on display at the museum. The Frist also includes
some corresponding downloadable content for each of its exhibits. This content
includes gallery guides, teacher guides, and suggested bibliography materials. Both
websites give links to related programs and tours of interest. Unlike The Frist, the
National Gallery of Art is considered a collecting museum. This merely indicates that
along with traveling exhibits the museum is also the host to its own permanent art

The Romantic Movement occurred during the late 18th to the mid 19th century,
which was close to the time Frankenstein was published (Romanticism). The

Frankenstein was deeply influenced by the romantics, and.. can certainly identify a
number of characteristics of romanticism in this novel . (Smith). Moreover,
Frankenstein was not only influenced by the Romantic Movement, but impacted it
also. For example, Frankenstein questions the facile assumptions of romanticism ,
and redefines the movement by auditing the romantic text , using her gothic novel
(Smith). Like previously stated, Frankenstein differed from most Enlightenment
literature, and became notable to the Romantic period. However, Frankenstein s
strong resemblance to gothic literature, made it arguable that it would not be
considered Romantic literature. Gothic literature was also contrary to Enlightenment
literature, and strongly incorporated techniques of mystery and horror, which
Frankenstein demonstrates (Gothic fiction). Additionally, 19th century realism, a
literary movement effected Frankenstein places and events (Gilbert). Although,
Frankenstein was different from the initial structure of Romanticism, it rather
reshaped it, influencing other novels that ensued. For example, Dracula
12. The Mirror In Sylvia Plath s Mirror
Sylvia Plath s, Mirror, takes hold of a young girl s misery with her reflection. The
poem s narrator is the mirror, that witnesses accounts of the girl s miserable life.
The girl ridicules her image, every day of her life, by looking into the mirror and
watching closely her imperfections taking over. As the girl grows older, the mirror
becomes abundant with the girl s sorrow towards her figure. The girl is drowning in
her self loathing and can t find a way to overcome her reflection.
The narration of Mirror is not human, but a mirror that witnesses sorrow and despair
of a young girl transforming into a woman. The mirror neither judges nor lies. It does
not shed opinions but rather respects the ethical meaning of the truth. The mirror
shows what is respectfully present. I am not cruel, only truthful. (Plath 5). The
speaker is not talking to one person but is messaging the world, that a mirror will
not show what you want. A mirror represents the truth. It doesn t hide what is shown
but embraces the person looking into the mirror, that whoever is looking in, is born
this way, and should not stray from it. Mirror is a free verse type of poem, which
doesn t block the poem from conveying the meaning of the poem. The poem is
broken down into two stanzas, both consisting of short sentences. The first stanza
represents how the girl first realizes her image through the mirror. The little girl
understands what she looks like and that the mirror can t replace her image with
something

engagement and alignment among hospitals and physicians to achieve meaningful
clinical process redesign that can change culture and lead to lasting differences in the

Section 5 of the FTC Act provides the FTC and DOJ enforcement powers when unfair
methods or acts which prohibit competition occur (Pozgar, 2012, p. 98). In general,
joint pricing agreements among competitors are treated as per se illegal under
Section 1 of the Sherman Act. The Clayton Act includes sections that prohibit
discrimination (e. g., in price), exclusive dealings and similar arrangements , among
corporations (anitrustlaws.org, 2015). The Sherman Antitrust Actmakes illegal every
contract, combination in the form of trust or otherwise, or conspiracy in restraint of
trade or commerce among the several states is declared to be illegal . Areas of
concern for healthcare organizations include reduced market competition, price

of the Federal Trade Commission as a law enforcer is to protect consumers from harm
by stopping firms from engaging in anticompetitive conduct and comply with the

14. Why I Am My Writing
While I believed my writing to be concise, yet thorough in the beginning of the
semester, it became clear to me that that was not the case. When entering EN3414,
I had no knowledge of critical theories or how to use secondary sources to enhance
my argument instead of carry it. I believed my heavy sentence phrasing to be an
asset instead of a way to bury my argument beneath long thoughts. In EN3414, I was
able to focus on taking my papers straight to my argument, to avoid useless sources
or let them lead the paperinstead of letting my argument carry the essay. And
because I have learned to revise and rewrite my papers as many times as possible
before they are due, I can no acknowledge the parts of my essay that are too heavy
or that need to be expanded upon. As I finish this course I feel my writingis clear and
concise, stating an idea and following that argument throughout the paper. Before
taking Critical Writing and Research Literary Studies, my writing, while rather
average, was enough to enable success in composition and survey courses;
however, it was not advanced enough for this class. The writings for composition
or survey classes were organized, but lacked a depth or clear argument. While the
topics would be clear and covered, there would be little to no in depth analysis and
more of a skimming above the surface. Even in longer papers, the depth of my
argument was never really deep enough, and while it was enough for the beginning
courses, it clearly became a
15. Analysis Of Martin Luther King Jr. And Ghandi Essay
Cesar Chavez was a great leader that left a legacy in the United States, just like
Martin Luther King Jr. and Ghandi. These great leaders preached for equality and
fairness. They were elegant, civilized and thoughtful about their approach against
oppression. Cesar Chavez recognized and praised his predecessors. He studied and
learned from them and their techniques. He used many of the approaches that MLK
and Gandhi used to become successful. Non violence was crucial to Cesar, among
many other principles. Just like in the generations of these great leaders, hostility and
oppression still exists in the world. In the United States, there are racial, ethnic, and
religious groups that are still being oppressed. There are many ways to go about
fighting this oppression, at the moment I believe that many people are doing it
wrong. I feel that protestors, activists and other organizations should come together to
learn and organize an elegant, smart, and respectful movement that will lead the
affected groups into a better tomorrow.
Caesar Chavez was at times addressed to as the Mexican Moses as a reference to the
biblical story of the Exodus of the Israelites from Egypt. Cesar s followers saw
themselves as the
Israelites, because farm workers at the time were being oppressed and exploited by
farm owners and other civilians. Even though the affected were Mexicans and
Mexican Americans, there was a smaller population of Filipinos who were also
affected. Chavez and his family went
16. The War And The Reality Of War
The attitudes to war and the reality of war are presented and developed in the play,
Henry V and a selection of WW1 poems in a variety of ways. Parts of the play can be
linked in with WW1 poems such as The Soldier by Rupert Brooke, Who s for the
Game by Jessie Pope, Suicide in the Trenches by Siegfried Sassoon and Dulce Et
Decorum Estby Wilfred Owen. The Henry V play is set in England in the early
fifteenth century. The political situation in England is tense: King Henry IV has
died, and his son, the young King Henry V, has just assumed the throne. Henry lays
claim to certain parts of France, based on his distant roots in the French royal
family. However, the Dauphin of France insults King Henry by sending tennis balls
in response to these claims, which shows us that he is trying to imply that King
Henry cannot be serious, and that he is immature and childish like he was before he
became the King of England. Nonetheless, Henry gives a fitting reply and decides to
invade France.
In Henry V, a positive attitude to war is presented with patriotism, honour and glory
which can be linked with The Soldier poem written by Rupert Brooke. In the play,
King Henry delivers many speeches as he understands the power of his words to
draw out action. His speeches are meant to stir soldiers morale and offer motivation,
inspiration and encouragement to the soldiers. King Henry uses his charisma as an
effective tool; as for Henry, the act of speech and rhetoric is a
17. Tone Of George Gascoigne Tone
Throughout this poem, sixteenth century poet George Gascoigne, reveals to his
audience what he is experiencing and the emotions that coincide. It is likely that
Gascoigne is both the author and speaker of this piece, and conveys his complex
attitude through different devices. His attitude is conflicting because of his
combination of being both reluctant but still tempted. Through his use of
expressive diction and comparisons, his audience is able to better understand the
issues that he is faced with. Gascoigne doesn t seem like he s trying to sugarcoat
the way he is feeling. He makes it clear that he is in a state of sadness or regret.
Through his diction, it is evident that he feels this way because of all the
descriptive words he uses. Early in the poem he says, To see me hold my louring
head so low. (Gascoigne 2) Through his use of the wordlouring, one can make the
straightforward assumption that he is more than just upset. The word holds a weight
that suggests he is sullen, his whole mood is currently negatively affected because
of the situation he is in. He has to purposely restrict himself from looking at the
woman, which could generate further pain. Later in the poem, he says Because your
blazing eyes my bale have bred. (Gascoigne 14) The word bale conveys that this
other person has caused him misery. Misery expresses more than just temporary
sadness, but rather prolonged feelings of emotional pain. This isn t just a minor
inconvenience to him, but rather

Immigrants create an engine of economic prosperity, says the 43 Governor of
Florida. While being only 13% of the population, Immigrants encompass 16% of
the labor force, thus adding to our gross domestic product or GDP. Some People
may think that immigration has a negative impact on our economy. These people
believe that by Immigrants having a high employment rate, native born citizens are
being pushed out of jobs, but that s not true. Skagit County is one of the largest
and most diverse agricultural communities. With approximately 90,000 acres of
land, local farmers produce crops, live stock and dairy products. By doing so they
make about 300 million dollars worth of food. But all of this work isn t just done by

on his player s needs and personal interests would result in their success. He used his
leadership techniques as the to help the team members use their full potential
individually and while working together as a team. Coach Yoast leadership was one
of empowerment and self management. Through the leadership of both Coach Boone
and Coach Yoast, they produced two other leaders Gerry Bertier and Julius Campbell.
Both athletes, Bertier and Campbell were team leaders. Despite the racial tension in
the being, after Gettysburg, they began to inspire their each other and their
teammates to the next level. They learned how to deal the challenges and changes
that they have to face and taught others how to develop a trusting and cooperative
relationship. Both young men set aside their prejudice and began to focus on the
team. Their relationship leads to way for most of the team to come together and
eventually other students. The leadership of Bertier and Campbell lead to personal
convictions and the need for the team members to protect each
21. Essay about The Importance Of The Human Genome
Project
The Importance Of The Human Genome Project
This is the outstanding achievement not only of our lifetime, but of human history. I
say this, because the Human Genome Project has the potential to impact the life of
every person on this planet. It is a giant resource that will change mankind, much like
the printing press did.
The famous words of Dr. James Watsonresonated as a victory bell, signaling the
successful completion of what many deemed the boldest undertaking in the history of
biology: The Human Genome Project (2003). On the fiftieth anniversary of the day
that forever changed science the day Watson and his colleague Francis Crick

The Human Genome Project s first flaw, Marks believes, is its image of being the
sole panacea for society s problems. It is important to note that Marks does not
condemn the Project as a whole, nor does he advocate a complete abandonment of
its future efforts which would, according to biologist Svante Paabo, lead to
ignorance and spur prejudice, oppression, and racism (2001, paragraph 8); rather,
he promotes a more moderate view of both the Project s prospective benefits and
the significance of our genes. He does, however, condemn the extreme deterministic
and reductionist outlook that many currently hold regarding these topics. The
Human Genome Project has fostered support for the erroneous conviction that we
possess, within our grasp, the weapon to eradicate the evils that plague society a
complete blueprint of our genome: We are assured that if we could find the genes
that underlie alcoholism or the genes that have gone awry when we get cancer, then
our problems will be over (Lewontin, 1991, p. 46). R.C. Lewontin, leading geneticist
and professor of zoology at Harvard University, expressed it best when he stated that
our main problem lies in the belief that our bad genes are the lone culprits for such
problems as alcoholism, criminality, drug

Calvin Shomburg was a NASA technician for 38 years and is considered a senior
engineer at the Johnson Space Center. He is an expert on the Thermal Protection

during re entry into the Earth s atmosphere. Foam strikes have occurred on
previous flights, and have always been treated as maintenance issues upon return
of the crew and vehicle. The foam strikes to the TPS have a very small chance of
causing problems. Schomburg knows that only 200 400 of the over 23,000 tiles,
on the left wing, can actually cause an issue. The foam strike on the STS 107

23. Reorcelian Flying Dragon Vase
Going to the art museum I had a lot of insight on unique artworks. One of the
exhibits I attended to are the treasures of the Chinese Art from the National
museum, Taipei. These pieces explore how Chinese art came to flourish under the
rulers of Han Chinese, Mongol, and Manchu. The revolving Vase with Revolving
Core and Eight Trigram Design was made in the Quinlong emperor was one of the
most fasinating pieces I have seen. This vase is no ordinary vase, the neck, upper,
lower, and inner body of this vase are all separated but pieced together making the
core of this vase rotate. The form of the famous revolving vase features eight
trigrams, there are complex combinations of broken and unbroken lines in which
symbolize the yin and yang energy, from the ancient classic text I Ching and wish
wands in the shape of mushroom heads, an emblem associated with longevity and
heaven in Daoism. This revolving piece of art did not only admire artist by their
ability to create beautiful work pleasing to the eye but also technical mastery in the
eighteenth century.
Another work shown was the porcelian flying dragon vase which was white with a
blue painted dragon that dates in the Ming dynasty. This vase has the classic asian
dragon which has always been an important symbol in the chinese culture, and is
traditional for meaning power and the emperor. This respected image with three claws

Therefore, the economic impacts are vital to think of in the planning of state, regional
and community and economical development. They are the important factors in
marketing and management decisions as well.
2.2 The reason why economic impact is chosen
Tourism plays a vital role in economic development in most countries around the
world. The industry has not only direct economic impact, but also significant indirect
and influential impacts. There is agreement among experts that the travel and tourism
sector is the fastest growing of global economy. According to the latest UNWTO
World Tourism Barometer, international tourism receipts surpass US$ 1 trillion in
2011, growing about 3.8%up from 2010 (WTO, 2012).
Each year, hundreds of thousands people descend on the streets of Notting Hill,
including performers, DJs, bandleaders, traders, steelpan players and international
visitors. The Notting Hill Carnival is composed of several constituents, through
costumes, steel bands, mobile and static sound systems playing in the street to
honour the freedom to walk the streets (ibid). While more and more visitors crowd
into the Notting Hill Carnival (see Table 1), it s not only useful to develop its societal
impact through education and the improvement policy of better racial harmony
(ibid), but also promote its economic

The Bond of Sisterhood in The Deerslayer
Sisters throughout history have been to eachother: friends, playmates, adversaries,
confidantes, soul mates and significant others , but the most important bond they
share is their sisterly love. This bond stands out and sets it apart from all others. The
sisterly love that Judith and Hetty Hutter possessed never seemed to reach its full
potential. This may be due to the fact that they were sisters who were different in
every way possible. This sisterly conflict creates great diversity and themes for the
book The DeerSlayer by James Fenimore Cooper. Due to the fact that their mother
died when they were young, Judith being the older one, naturally took the leadership

Personality and character wise Hetty and Judith were exact opposites. Judith bore
not only good looks but also intelligence to compliment her physical beauty. Hetty
was once described as having less intellect than ordinary falls to the share of
human beings. It was known amongst the lake that Hetty infact was slow and
retarded, with a simple yet humble mind. Judith did recognize this weakness and
took advantage of it. She had grown up thinking herself not as an equal to Hetty,
but as a better person. This is evident through out the story. At one point Judith and
the Deerslayer are searching for the wealth hidden in the treasure chest. They
search high and low throughout the barge, including through Judith s luxurious
possessions when the happen upon Hetty s simple ones. Judith states in a tone of
betterment, These are only the clothes of poor Hetty, dear simple girl! she said;
nothing we seek would be likely to be there. Judith has become a self seeking, self
righteous woman, only seeking out things in life that benefited her. The favoritism
of Judith over Hetty by their father is constantly seen in the story. Hetty had
belongings said to be plain and simple, and of not much value, while Judith
possessed items of great worth and pride, belonging only to a woman of such
exquisite beauty. Ironically it was Hetty who adored and loved the father who
favored her sister over her. At Tom s death, he confessed that he was not their
27. Failure Of The Stalemate On The Western Front
The main theatre of fighting in World War One was on the Western Front. The
Western Front was a stretch of land weaving through France and Belgium from the
Swiss Boarder to the North Sea. The belligerents on the Western front consisted of
the central powers, Austria Hungary and Germany pitted against the Entente
Powers. This involved the British empire, the Russian empire and the French with
the addition of the United States from 1917 onwards. The creation of the stalemate
on the Western Front is linked to a variety of reasons. These include the failure of
the Schlieffen plan, The Battle of the Marne, Plan 17 and the Race to the Sea and
the defensiveness of weapons. Failure of the Schlieffen Plan To a large extent the
failure of the Schlieffen plan was the most significant reason for the creation of the
western front. The Schleiffen Plan was a defensive military strategy to deal with the
French and Russian forces , staunch allies, in order to avoid a war on two fronts.
Which was not what Germany wanted. This plan created by Von Schleiffen Outlined
that troops being sent through Belgium and the Netherlands whilst simultaneously
having the bulk of troops travel down to defend the Alsace Lorraine region which
Germany had gained in the Franco Prussian war (1970). The troops at Belgium
would attack as a hammer swing effect for they would travel south and around Paris
capturing the city whilst the French forces were distracted. However, on the contrary

Beethoven is perhaps the most famous musician of all time. Ever since his death in
1827, he has been a principal figure in the history of Western Music. His influence
later on was so enormous to other composers, that it actually intimidated them.
Ludwig van Beethoven was born in 1770, to a family of musicians at the royal court
of Cologne. His name descended from his grandfather, who settled in Bonn in 1732.
Both his father and grandfather were professional musicians who performed at the
court of Elector. In the important town of Bonn. Beethoven was greatly respected, but
his dad was more of a problem. Beethoven s father, left him many unpleasant

Financially, the first two years in Vienna were very difficult for Beethoven. His first
home was in a basement. He had to spend money for furniture, a piano, and clothes,
in order to make a name for himself. Even if his sense of style was not on point, his
talent and personality made up for it. Most of his income were gifts from
aristocrats, where he held concerts. Later, money came from author s rights he
managed to publish his works right from the start, which was not an easy thing at
that time. In the first years of his stay in Vienna he raised the extra money he
needed from public concerts and tours. He didn t like to be a teacher; nevertheless
he gave private lessons, especially to young aristocratic girls. Usually they took
lessons until they got married, after which they almost completely abandoned them.
Among Beethoven s students there were also famous pianists, talented and
distinguished ladies like Tereza Brunswik or Dorothea Ertmann. (Beethoven s fame

30. Descriptive Essay On Summer And Winter
It s four o clock on a rainy, autumn, Monday afternoon. I ve chosen my location to
be my room in my apartment at 2224 Blowing Rock Rd. The window is always left
open due to my admiration for the regular sounds that occur outside my building.
This location makes me feel comfortable, calm, and upbeat. Not only did I
specifically pick out the place and time for this assignment I really aimed to write this
while the weatherwas accenting autumn, wet and windy. Nothing is more relaxing
than a nice cup of coffee in the comforts of your own bed while the windand rain
serenade you. The whole season of fall makes me feel warm and content. Thoreau
wrote The indescribable innocence and beneficence of Nature, of the sun and
wind and rain, of summer and winter, such health, such cheer, they afford forever!
And such sympathy have they ever with our race, that all nature would be affected,
and the suns brightness fade, and the winds would sigh humanely, and the clouds
rain tears, and the woods shed their leaves and put on mourning in midsummer, if
any man should ever for just a cause grieve (Solitude, 110). Within the room itself, I
can hear a few distinct sounds around me. A faint melody of jazz can be heard on a
radio in the corner. Music helps me focus on whatever work I have for the night.
Although I have turned the radio down in order to hear other sounds for this
assignment, I can still hear small claps of a beat and an upbeat squeak of some
kind of horn. Attached to my curtains are a string of old bells. The wind is picking
up today and every time it blows a small gust through my window the curtain moves
and the bells dance along it. They soundlike tiny cow bells. The wind has also picked
a fight with a small candle on one of my tables. I can hear the flickers of the flame
trying to stay lit as well as it possibly can. And of course, the most apparent sound
in the room is the tapping and clicking of my laptop keys as I write this. Outside of
my window, there are several different layers of sound all unique to each other. The
first layer come from the immediate parking lot in front and the whole apartment
complex itself. I can hear bustling neighbors all around; faint laughs, doors shutting,
cars
31. Analysis Of Luther Man Between God And The Devil Essay
Luther Man between God and the Devil is wonderfully written book that was
authored by Heiko A. Oberman. The author of the book focuses on Luther s life
history with the overall purpose of discovering the under explored aspects of his life
lessons. Oberman hoped to link Martin s life with eternity and not a continuous
progress towards heaven inspired by the chaos in the last days of eternity (Oberman,
1989, 12). Heiko is conscious of the monumental time difference between Martin
Luthers death and the period he constructs the details which comprise this work.
During the author s time of researching the history, theology, and character of
Luther. We could argue that one of the over riding focuses of this book is that
Luther s poignant point of view for his life was symbolic of a struggle against the
devil, or at the very least our interpretation.
Background on Martin Luther
The story of Luther and the Reformation have been the topic of religious discussion
for
centuries. The Papal Authority played a pivotal role in European history, as did the
Protestant
Reformers. Luther s perspective on religious duty makes for an inspiring
conceptualization of
religion. The Papal Authority on the other hand had a monumental task of keeping
Catholicism
at the forefront of Europe while simultaneously defending it against the advancing
Turks.
As protestants we have a tendency to harshly judge the Catholic church for the selling
of
indulgence and for taking confession. Yet this

Change comes to the United States In the beginning of the 20th Century, a
movement called Progressivism began to improve American society. The
Progressivism movement had four major goals: A) To protect social welfare by
fixing the various problems of city life. Organizations were created to forward this
goal, such as the YMCA that built libraries and public gyms and the Salvation Army
provided food for the poor and nursery care for the young. B) To push for moral

Woman were largely responsible for cooking, cleaning, sewing and raising the
children as well as assisting with the farm crops and animals. In cities, many women
who lacked higher education joined the workforce by becoming domestic servants
and maids. African American and unmarried immigrant women often used this path
to employment. In 1900, a quarter of women who worked outside the home worked
in industry, with almost half working in the garment industry. The growth of business
demanded workers to fill in the expanding clerical, stenograph and office work. To
meet this demand, more women sought further education to train for these jobs.
Women in the middle and upper classes created and joined groups dedicated to
promoting culture and education. Due to their efforts, the number of women s
colleges increased and many of the new college graduates joined and aided the
various reform movements. These reform movements were focused on increasing
safety in the workplace and at home. The National Association of Colored Women
was created to help African Americans by providing family based support
opportunities such as nurseries, reading rooms and kindergartens. Another important
cause of woman Reformers was the suffrage movement, which promoted the right to
vote for woman. This effort was headed by the National American Woman Suffrage
Association, and by their efforts, Wyoming became the first state to grant women
33. A Family Holiday Choral Concert
Frozen A Family Holiday Choral Concert By: Jackie Draper Today, Classical
music isn t considered to be the most popular genre of music, but as I seen at MJC s
Frozen A family Holiday Choral Concert , the audience really enjoyed the songs that
fell into this genre. Whether one realizes it or not, we hear classical musicmore than
we think. When one is on hold with their doctor s office, at an upper scale
department store, or even at a fancy restaurant, more than likely the type of music
being played is classical. The Classical music period originated in the mid 1700 s
and lasted until the mid 1800 s. A lot of people don t realize, but classical music is
still being composed today, but is much different than what it was hundreds of years
ago. Most of the texture in classical music has multiple parts that tend to move in the
same rhythm, which is homophonic. One can hear simple classic instruments, such
as: strings, woodwinds, percussion, and brass when listening to this genre. Some of
the well known forms of music today, such as: symphonies, sonatas, concertos and
orchestras all derived from classical music. Baroque musicwas the genre that came
out before Classical music. This genre of music has more of a tonal center. The
texture of the music was a lot different than that of classical music. Baroque music is
usually polyphonic, but at times is homophonic. In fact, the Baroque era is what
made music shift from polyphony to homophony. One

36. The Debate On The Issue Of Poverty
JUDGEMENT FRAMEWORK
Poverty is a complex issue that has always been around, but has been a growing
concern over time. Holding a debate on the issue of poverty, is one that can easily
go awry due to it s complexity and emotional aspects. In order to evaluate the debate,
both teams need to fully understand the proposal and clearly articulate their stance.
The debate teams need to be able to clearly explain their position, refute the opponent
s argument, provide solutions, provide a stimulating counter examination, and
effectively answer questions from the judges. Other logistical aspects of the debate
that will be judged on is the ability to efficiently use time and allocate it between team
members, as well as refraining from interrupting other debates and keeping an
appropriate volume and demeanor.
There are various general questions that will be utilized in my evaluation of the
debate. Did the teams address what poverty is, how people become poor and
remain poor, explain why it s the individual or society s fault, why we haven t been
able to dramatically keep poverty low, why current efforts are not working, and what
new solutions should be utilized?
I expect both teams to utilize support for their arguments from outside sources and
from the readings. My general expectations for the arguments by both teams is to not
only clearly explain their proposed arguments, but to also

but with when they are done too tight, with time it will result in hair loss, dandruff
(because you can t wash your hair with braids), and a very itchy scalp. And that is
not all; after you remove the braids, your hair will be dried up and come off as you ll

Tip#15, Try dry shampooto avoid collateral damage.
Dry shampoos can be found in the form of powers and sprays and are mostly

Simply divide your hair in 4 (if you are not used to using dry shampoos), then start
spraying or sprinkling the dry shampoo into hair. Massage your hair for one minute,
and that s all you need to do.
After you are done with the dry cleansing process, style your hair as wished (do not

was more important than burying our brother. Also, I didn t like how she was
being so submissive under men because she was afraid to die. INDIA: I understand
what you mean. Your response is very welled explain. I also think that it s weak
being submissive under men instead of standing up for what you believe in. O to
the next question, if it were someone else in your brother position, would you have
done the same thing? ANTIGONE: If I were close to that person than yes, but if
not then no. Besides me loving my brother and not wanting to disobey the Gods I
feel as though it wouldn t pertain to me unless we were close. INDIA: Thanks for
your honesty. The next question goes to The Watchman. If fate would have it, what
would you have done if you didn t find Antigone? THE WATCHMAN: First, I
would have clearly tried to find the criminal to clear my name. If it had come down
to it though, I

42. I Hate And I Love Poem Analysis
The poems I Hate and I Love Thursday and Milk Teeth all have the theme of a
relationship that isn t going too well. Specifically a relationship that has a one sided
love; or in other words, unrequited love. I specifically chose these three songs
because they connect to each other so well. Each poem displays the true feelings of
what being in an unrequited relationship is like. Whether they are frustrated with
their significant other or themselves or whether if they are drained of loving too much.
First, the poem I Hate and I Love by Catullus demonstrates the struggles of being
ambivalent. Being stuck in between two opposite feelings is very conflicting
because your mind goes blank, as if it is chained down. The poem is very short and
only includes two lines, but it means so much. I hate and I love. And if you ask me
how,/ I do not know: I only feel it, and I m torn in two, displays the bitterness of
being ambivalent. This relates to an unrequited relationship because one person loves
more than one another and they hate it. It s hard to stop loving the person you truly
love, even when they don t feel the same.
However, the poem Thursday by Edna St. Vincent Millay presents a short lived love,
which is proved with the lines And if I loved you Wednesday,/ Well, what is that...

how drained the relationship is. Their love is so empty and drowned in pride that
it begins to hurt one another. These people are still very closed off from each

they love them too much. It s as if they ve grown onto each other; so if they let go,

Discussing Developmental Theorists and Their Theories of Human Development
For ease of review in discussing the developmental theorists and their theories of
human development I have subdivided each theorist into their respective schools of
psychology. These schools include the psychoanalytic school, behavioral school,
humanistic school, cognitive school, and the individual schools of psychology. Each
developmental theorist holds their own unique ideas and theories about various
components of human development. I will be discussing the contributions of each of
these theorists.
To begin with we have the psychoanalytic school of psychology. This would include
Sigmund Freud, Erik Erikson, and Elisabeth Kubler Ross. I will begin with ... Show

He also concluded that the sexual drive was the most powerful shaper of a person
s psychology, and that sexuality was present even in infants. He presented what is
now a well known theory of the stages of psychosexual development. They include
the oral, anal, and phallic stages. Later, he identified two additional stages called
the latent and genital period. The phallic stages include the Oedipus Complex for
boys and the Electra Complex for girls. The Oedipus Complex states there is a
sexual attraction towards the mother and a sense of jealousy to the point of hatred
of the father. The Electra Complex states that there is a sexual attraction towards
the father and a hostile rivalry toward the mother. I find Freud s theory of the
unconscious to be relevant and useful. I think the use of the term Freudian Slip
most relevant in applying this theory. I know at times I have said things that I may
have not been consciously thinking about yet when they came out I could identify
with them. I can also agree that many unconscious memories are from childhood
events. I find this highly useful for me because I am adopted and so unlike any
members of my family. I believe my early childhood events helped to shape my
future behavior but they were very painful and I repressed them. His stress on the
importance of childhood helped to teach the value of giving children an emotionally
nourishing environment so I can definitely find
45. The Long Term Effectiveness Of Prolonged Exposure
Therapy
Literature Review
Existing controlled examinations of intervention efficacy specific to only sexual
assault and rape are presently minimal in comparison to intervention examinations of
combination or other types of trauma (Regehr, Alaggia, Dennis, Pitts, Saini, 2013).
Psychotherapeutic interventions that fail to differentiate sexual assault and rape
victims from other types of trauma victims may decrease the treatment effectiveness
or inadvertently harm participants in this subgroup. Trauma associated from rape or
sexual assault differs from other forms of trauma and treatment efficacy should be
examined in this manner. Trauma from rape or sexual assault entail symptoms of
PTSD, depression, suicidal ideations and sexual dysfunction. Individuals may also
indicate feelings of vulnerability, loss of control, fear, shame, self blame, societal
blame and stigma (Russell Davis, 2007; Regehr et al., 2013; Ullman Peter Hagene,
2014). This research proposal intends to explore the long term effectiveness of
Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) at reducing distress and trauma explicitly for adult
victims of sexual assault and rape.
Prolonged exposure (PE) is a specific exposure therapy program that derives from
Emotional Processing Theory (EPT). The idea of emotional processing is to interpret
realistic information and accommodate that information into a fear structure which in
turn diminishes the fear (Foa, 2011). Foa (2011) acknowledges that the idea of
failing to process trauma is
46. Essay on The Wife of Bath by Geoffery Chaucer
The Wife of Bath
The Wife of Bath, or Alison, is a worldly woman. Not only has she traveled the
world, she has experienced the world, in the sexual manner. Alison herself states
this at the beginning of her tale, Were there no books at all on the subject, my own
experience gives me a perfect right to talk of the sorrows of marriage . . . I ve married
five husbands . . . . (Chaucer 174). The point of Alison s long winded prologue is to
crush the idea that men have a hierarchy of dominance over women. Chaucer makes
this point, and also the point, through Alison s tale, that if women are given what they
want, then they will be obedient and faithful to their men.
The worldliness of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this notion, the Pardoner, another one of Chaucer s characters, asks why he
should even wed if his wife is going to control his body. Alison quickly replies that he
should listen to her tale before he makes judgements about the gift that women have.
Now Alison begins her tale.
Alison tells the tale of a knight in King Arthur s Court who rapes a beautiful young
maiden out of lust. The knight is sentenced to be decapitated. However, the queen
and other ladies of the court ask Arthur to give the knight one chance to save himself,
and being obedient to the wifely counsel, Arthur agrees. The knight may live, if
within one year he can come back to the court and tell them what women want most
in the world. Alison continues her tale, telling all of the different answers that the
knight receives, such as sex, money, flattery, and even remarriage. Not thinking that
any of these answers are true he continues on. Nearing the end of his journey, the
knight spots a group of women dancing in the woods, but when he gets to where they
were they have vanished and all that remains is an ugly old woman. The old woman
ask if she can help and the knight tells of his predicament. The old hag says that she
knows the answer and offers to help only if the knight pledges himself to her.
Returning to the court, the knight gives his answer to the women. The knight replies
that what

While research represents overcoming the limitations of contemporary medicine and
technology, medicine represents the connection between the applications of research
towards patient care.
Working as a Research Assistant at the Piano Laboratory, I have an interest in
developmental biology. At the Piano Lab, I assist my mentor, Patricia Giselle
Cipriani, and her project on the usage of RNAi on ovary expressed genes and of
time lapse microscopy in order to better understand a comprehensive molecular
description of the genetic and evolutionary mechanisms behind early embryogenesis
in C. elegans. From the data obtained from the RNAi tests, gene clusters based on
the phenotypic analysis are created in order to investigate the functional analysis of
the genome and molecular dissection of specific cellular processes. My role in the
laboratory is to identify and verify the locations of single polymorphisms in mutants
and then perform gel electrophoresis to verify mutations before sequencing. In the
process, I also learned basic microscopy and worm handling skills.
The Piano Lab not only exposed me to contemporary research in genetics and
developmental biology, but it also gave me the opportunity to apply the knowledge I
have learned throughout higher leveled courses, like Molecular and Cell Biology. As
I gained experience in the Piano laboratory, I also learned the molecular mechanisms
and reasons behind the techniques I used through Molecular and Cell Biology. From

My beliefs, morals, values, and views on my culture are based upon my upbringing,
the values within my family, and the norms adopted by my culture. However, I can t
only thank my family for whom I am today; my personal experiences and feelings
have had a huge impact on my cultural views and experiences. I went to Puerto Rico
when I was four years old and haven t been ever since. I remember eating limbers
and roosters crowing and hot steam rising from the ground from a passing shower
but nothing about my generations past. It s sad to know nothing about an island that
many of my kind are very proud of. I m clueless of what my Puerto Rican people
have been through. Political, economic, social relations, what about them, I
wonder? All I know about the island s is that my relatives are Puerto Ricans from
an island in the Caribbean called Puerto Rico. I Christina Ruiz was an easy going

49. Whooping Cough Case Study
Whooping cough is becoming more common in the community and primarily being
spread through school systems. It is a highly contagious respiratory tract infection
that is marked by a severe hacking cough followed by a high pitched intake of
breath that sounds like a whoop , which is where the name comes from (Mayo,
2016). It is caused by the microbe bordatella pertussiswhich is a bacterium. These
bacteria attach themselves to the cilia that line part of the respiratory tract. People
with pertussis usually spread the disease to another person by coughing or sneezing
or if they are spending a lot of time near each other and sharing the same breathing
space.

The signs and symptoms are usually mild at first and resemble a common cold; runny
nose, nasal congestion, red and watery eyes, fever, and a cough (Mayo, 2016). After a
few weeks, signs and symptoms will worsen and thick mucus will collect inside the
airways causing the unmanageable coughing. They are horrific coughing attacks
that can lead to vomiting, result in a red or blue face, extreme fatigue, and ends
with a high pitched whoop sound during the next patient s breath (Mayo, 2016).
The diagnosis of pertussis includes an assessment of the patient s history of typical
signs and symptoms and an actual physical examination (Diagnosis, 2016). The
doctor will obtain a nose or throat mucus culture by swabbing or suctioning from
the area where the nose and throat meet, and then the sample of checked for
evidence of bordatella pertussis bacterium. A blood test may be acquired to check
the white blood cell count as white blood cells fight infections, such as whooping
cough. A high count of white blood cells indicates the presence of infection or
inflammation but does not pertain only to whooping cough. A chest x ray may also
be ordered to check for inflammation or fluid in the lungs which can occur in
pneumonia, a complication of
50. Comparison Of Count Dracula In Bram Stoker s Dracula
And...
Dracula is the infamous vampire, that readers were п¬Ѓrst introduced to by Irish
author Bram Stoker in 1897 when they read his novel Dracula (Stoker). The author
conveys the story of Count Dracula, a mysterious being that is half man, half
vampire that sucks blood from the neck of his victims to stay alive (Stoker). This
novel is an outstanding masterpiece of work, which is why it has been a prototype
for various movie releases over the decades, such as Nosferatu, Horror of Dracula,
Dracula A Love Story, and Bram Stokers Dracula ( Dracula (Universal Classics) ).
The hope is when a movie is based on a novel that the characters coincide from one
to the other, which leads to the exploration of the resemblances and modifications of

He cannot come into a house unless invited or walk in water and his favorite meal
is human blood (Stoker). While these traits are consistent in both the novel and the
movie there are differences (Stoker). Starting with the novel, it describes Count
Dracula s shadow coordinates with his body, yet in the movie, his shadow works
separately from his body movements ( Dracula (Universal Classics) ). The next
modification of Count Dracula s character in the novel is, he cannot be in or near
the sunlight or it will kill him, however, in the movie, he meets Mina in the
daytime and it does not harm him (Bram Stoker s). Then, in the novel, Dracula is a
purely evil, terrifying blood hungry monster that wreaks havoc on anyone he meets
and feels the need to take life or end life with his arch nemesis being with anyone
who wants to preserve life (Stoker). But in the movie when he meets Mina on the
streets of London, he pursues a courtship with her and he begins to develop feelings
for Mina (Bram Stoker s). When he proclaims his love for her and refuses to
condemn her to the life of a vampire, he is no longer a vile, evil monster (Bram
Stoker s). These modifications to Count Dracula s character in the movie make the
audience see him as a vulnerable, loving man with feelings for a woman who
reminds him of his dead wife Elisabeta (Bram
