11th Christmas Essay
My 11th Christmas
It was December 25th the day I become part Methodist, the day in which people believe god s son was
born, the day my family goes to my aunt s house to celebrate Christmas. It was also the day in which
we received presents from our relatives and that s why I was so excited. This day was so special to my
relatives, that they even made all three meals for us.
Ding dong. The doorbell rang, we were standing on our aunt s brick porch. I looked in the side
window next to the door and saw my grandmother making her way off the couch. Hey, the kids are
here, my grandmother said as she walked to the door. I could hear her unlocking the door. Creak! The
wooden door opened. They had the football on the TV and it looked as if they were already starting
the party. We only come to this house for this type of occasion.
Hello, my dad replied, slightly raising his hand and smiling as if my grandmother made this joke. My
dad was wearing a golf shirt with hiking pants.
Come on in, my grandfather said in the background as he slowly made his way to the door. We walked
in. The walls were still white, the small wooden dining room to the left of the door was still there
along with my uncle s small office to the right. Overall it didn t look like they changed anything, I
could still see the small hallway leading to the garage and the couches next to the television screen.
But the amount of presents lying under the Christmas tree next to the stairs was

Politics In Haiti
As a developing nation, Haiti relies on international aid organizations to deliver some basic services
and necessities that the government is not able to. In the wake of the 2010 earthquake and the
subsequent cholera outbreak, Haiti needed aid organizations more than ever, so much so that the aid
community unintentionally gained political power. Recently, the International Monetary Fund (IMF)
stalled an economic aid package bound for Haiti due to the postponement of elections. The IMF did
not think it was prudent to disburse aid to an interim government with little to no experience
expending aid and the World Bank and the Inter American Dialogue Bank have taken similar stances.
To be sure, foreign aid is essential for poor Haitians. Without ... Show more content on

Rick Ry Human Service Delivery Model
As many of you know, Rick Ryan, Human Services Cluster Deputy CIO, has retired. I have known
Rick since 1998 when, as Associate Computer Programmers, we worked together on Welfare to Work
(under Fred Teti). It is with mixed feelings that I bid Rick farewell. I am happy for him as he enters
this new phase of his life, but I will miss him both professionally and personally. As we move forward
in our transformation, there is still much change ahead and we are faced with the continuing challenge
of balancing our ongoing workload, migrating data centers, and the organizational changes required to
to address our evolving service delivery model. To help us meet these challenges, it is my pleasure to

“Our Health Care System Has Significant Safety And Quality
Our health care system has significant safety and quality problems, Linda Cronenwett said. To fix that,
we need to redesign what and how we teach the next generation of nurses and other healthcare
professionals so that they understand what goes into ensuring good and safe care, and can identify and
bridge the gaps between what is and what should be (Hirst, O Segedy, 2011). Robert Wood Johnson
Foundation funds national study to educate nursing students on patient safety and healthcare quality.

Phase III, worked to develop faculty expertise necessary for nursing schools to teach the
competencies. The focus was on instilling the competencies in textbooks, licensing, accreditation and

six competencies are patient centered care, teamwork and collaboration, evidence based practice,
quality improvement, safety, and informatics. In the first two phases of QSEN, the goal was to identify
what s out there now, what s missing, and what s wrong. The conclusion reached was that our nursing
schools need to equip the next generation of nurses to help drive change in health care. Therefore in
the final phase of the project, there was innovation in the way students were taught, tested, and

and the lack of safety and quality care. The next generation of nurses, can make important
contributions on all fronts, if they take on the challenge. The QSEN project promotes continued

Thirty Years War
Background A thorough understanding of the Thirty Years War is essential in discussing the effects of
the Peace of Westphalia. Religion dominated authority in Europe in the 16th century, namely
Catholicism. However, dissatisfaction grew as the Protestant Reformation gained more followers,
resulting in tension and divisions throughout the Holy Roman Empire. Weakened imperial power and
unrest between ruler and subjects began as early as 1555. Although the Thirty Years War broke out
based on religious conflicts, the motives of the war became mainly of political supremacy as fighting
continued on a continental scale in the latter years. It pitted Protestant against Catholic, the Holy
Roman Empire against France, the German princes and princelings

Obesity and Omega-3s Reduce Appetite Essay
Appetite, by definition, is a term used to describe ones natural desire for food. It differs from hunger
and satiety, and it is affected by a host of neural, hormonal and physical factors that may vary between
individuals. This essay sets out to explain how these factors affect the appetite. In doing so the essay
will explore the different regions of the brain (and the body) involved in its regulation and control, and
the ways in which these areas may be pharmacologically and surgically manipulated to control the
appetite itself.
Appetite can be described as ones instinctual desire for food. The smell and sight of food can trigger
thoughts that lead to an increased flow of gastric juices in both the mouth and stomach. Sometimes
however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are several key hormones that play a part in reducing or increasing appetite. Some of these
hormones include Ghrelin, Leptin, Insulin, Amylin, Obestatin and Triodothyroxine. All are essential in
the control of body weight through their short and long term actions.
Following the ingestion of carbohydrates and proteins, insulin is released from pancreatic islet cells.
Whilst the brain is not insulin dependent, the arcuate nucleus contains protein receptors that respond
to insulin (as well as Leptin)[7]. As insulin inhibits NPY/AgRP secreting neurons and activates POMC
releasing neurons, it reduces the appetite and as a result regulates body weight. This is backed up even
further by scientific claims that insulin resistance is linked to obesity, and type II diabetes can be
associated with a loss in insulin regulation[8].
Modern scientific research has also linked the hormone leptin to appetite and feeding behavours.
Leptin is a hormone (produced by the fat cells) that naturally suppresses the appetite. In general, the
more fat you have, the more leptin you produce. When working efficiently, Leptin signals to the brain
to indicate if energy stores (such as fat) are adequate or inadequate. It does so in the arcuate nucleus
by inhibiting stimulatory neurons by stimulating inhibitory fibers. It appears it is possible however for
the arcuate nucleus to become

The Importance Of Religion In Literature
Religion guides humans to a higher order of existence through the collective organization of beliefs,
cultural identities, and world views. Religion seeks to define the meaning of life and human existence
through historical narratives, symbols, and faith. Since the birth of religions, these have adopted a
central focus of the way people live, their lifestyle choices, and their boundaries. In doing so, religion
has been used as a preeminent theme in works of literature since the ancient world, as the greater part
of first written texts were religious stories. Throughout centuries however, writers have been adapting
religion in literature in many different ways, such as in: Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler,
Dracula by Bram Stoker, and On the Road by Langston Hughes. Religion in these literary works has
played a life changing role in the lives of its characters. In these texts, some characters accept
established religions while others reject it, instead, focusing their time on creating their own. In
Octavia Butler s Parable of the Sower, the stories heroine, Lauren Olamina, daughter of a Baptist
minister during a degenerative and apocalyptic United States. Inside of the walls of her gated
community, religion is presented as the unifying doctrine keeping everyone together in times of
excruciating chaos. However, Lauren is beginning to mature as a young woman and has begun to
question her Christian faith; and as a result, seeks to create her own religion, Earthseed.

Declaration Of Independence Persuasive Essay
I couldn t happen, but notice the terrible disagreement you engaged in with your dearest lover Allie.
The way you two were talking to each other and the words that were exchanged appeared to be a huge
conflict. To begin, the first problem you seem to have is relationship dissolution. Relationship
dissolution is the breaking or dissolving of the bonds that hold the relationship together. A huge reason
behind this may be because you are very verbally abusive. When you called Allie names such as pain
in the ass it did not help, but make the conflict worse. Instead of calling Allie names you should seek
to engage in more productive communication such as, not using vulgar words or explaining the issue
is a more appropriate manner. In addition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Force is when you are act like you are in control and do not give the other person an alternate choice,
but to choose your opinion. Allie needs time to think over her decision. Seemingly, as you are
discussing the issue you are putting an exuberant amount force on Allie to choose you. This is very
unfair because it takes away from what Allie wishes to do. As you are forcing your opinion on Allie, it
takes away her ability to form an opinion on her own. This problem is seen through your conflict as
you make statements such as, Would you just stay with me? or Well I hate you. If you leave here. I
hate you . Each of these statements force Allie into wanting to stay with you instead of giving her
space to make her own decision. A possible solution to this problem would be to use active listening.
Active listening is requiring the listener to be fully concentrated and open to what the other individual
is trying to communicate. While you are actively listening you must not make any judgements about
what Allie is saying. Active listening will allow for you to hear Allie s opinion without adding your
judgement in. Also, this solution will help Allie feel more appreciated and accepted by you. If you
were able to fully listen to what Allie is saying, you most likely would avoid forcing your own opinion

Battle of Gettysburg
The Battle of Gettysburg was fought by the largest number of soldiers, totaling 172,000 young men (
American Civil War ). During the Civil War, our nation was divided by the North (Union Army) and
the South (Confederate Army) for opposing viewpoints on slavery and states rights. The Battle of
Gettysburg was fought over three long, arduous days. The soldiers struggled under their respected
generals in a 25 mile battle zone ( American Civil War ). This battle was a triumphant victory and a
heart wrenching loss for the troops of the Yankee North and Rebel South. The complexity of the Battle
of Gettysburg brought together two fronts whose decisions and commitment would determine its
outcome. Many generals commanded forces during this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, the Confederates retained control of only Seminary Ridge. This setback for the
South was likely the result of General Ewell s failure to follow Lee s command (King 15 17). Despite
this, the Rebel s morale remained optimistic as they initiated the fighting on the following morning
(King 18). Union forces retaliated and saved their position until one of General Meade s commanders
staged his own offensive battle (Appleby, Joyce 486; King 22). This Union general was Dan Sickles.
By moving his position without consulting General Meade, a bulge was created. This foolish mistake
allowed 1,600 Confederate soldiers to rush the Union line to overtake Peach Orchard, capturing 1,000
Yankee prisoners (King 22). Another Union Army general, G.K. Warren, secured and protected a hill
called Little Round Top before Confederates claimed it which helped combat the loss from Sickle s
blunder ( American Civil War ). At this point in the Battle of Gettysburg, both North and South
sustained large numbers of casualties. The Southern casualties roughly totaled 7,000 of 22,000 troops.
The North suffered even more by losing 15,000 soldiers. Both sides needed to re evaluate their battle
strategies. Lee thought victory for the South was possible with better timing and artillery. Conversely,
Meade and his other Union generals decided to stay in their current position and continue the battle
(King 22). After dawn on July 3, 1863, Union soldiers fired upon

Introduction
The Concept of Anxiety is one of Kierkegaard s major works. It summarizes and anticipates themes
that are developed in his other works. Even though Kierkegaard s treasure on anxiety is not a readable
material, that shines though the book is that anxiety is linked to love in the case of positively and also
in the context of negative. A being in anxiety can close himself up within himself, but in anxiety he
can also become aware of himself in such a way that he sees the relationship between himself and
other human being. It is in this regard that anxiety, in Kafka s words, can become an anxiety for the
greatest as well as for the smallest , and also he added this with this ... Show more content on

To be truly human we must experience the anxiety of freedom and in this we are able to live
authentically. To live in freedom necessitates that we are living with anxiety and to be truly human
means being free. But it can also be a very negative thing, the weight of the responsibility of freedom
is the most big burden one can bear and it has the potential to drive us as human into the emptiness of
respire. It is so clear from Kierkegaard s analysis that when we are at the very bottom of the negative
accepts of anxiety that we must find rest in God. When we are weary from bearing the weight of
freedom, when we are terrified of living before an eternal Changeless one then may we find rest in
God. It is here also that we might see the absolute human blessing of

The Project aimed to make a spaceship that was simple and affordable. The project was initiated by
Ted Taylor and Francis de Hoffman, founders of General Atomic and by physicist Freeman Dyson of
Princeton s Institute for Advanced Study on 1958 in San Diego [2]. Their goal was to land on Mars by
1965 and to Saturn by 1970 [1]. They were funded by the Advanced Research Projects Agency
(ARPA) in July for $1 million per year. There came a time in 1959 when ARPA no longer was able to
support Project Orion due to insufficient funds and approached the Air Force for funding [1]. The Air
Force reluctantly decided to fund only if they can find a use for it. The Secretary of Defense, Robert
McNamara, refused to increase funding to Project Orion as he felt it was not a military asset [2]. The
Orion team inquired NASA for funding as its current funding would not be enough to build a flyable
spacecraft [2]. NASA, same as the Air Force, reluctantly provided funding due its fear that it would
cause a public relations disaster. Project Orion was hit by a fatal blow as the United Nations Office for
Outer Space Affairs came into an agreement of the Outer Space Treaty [3]. The Outer Space Treaty,
signed by 103 countries, was signed in 1967 and served as the basic foundation of international space
law [3]. The Outer Space Treaty states that exploration of

Hatha Yoga Argumentative Essay
Yoga: an archaic esoteric practice that has been shrouded in a mysterious umbrage for many ages.
Until recently, yoga has defined as an ancient discipline designed to bring balance and health to the
physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions of an individual (Ross 3). However, in today s age
professional athletes, strongmen, runners, and bodybuilders define yoga as a performance booster as
they incorporate its teachings into their training regimens. Yoga practice emphasizes vigorous
flexibility, conditioning, and balance work; mainly through Hatha yoga and Vinyasa yoga. As a result,
factoring these aspects, it functions as an effective performance booster. Be that as it may, opposition
lies in the testament of the benefits that yoga provides. Provided that, opposers emphasize the
potential of injuries and time restraints associated within the practice of yoga. Consequently, this essay
will consider these arguments and brief upon them. Additionally, I will put forward reasons for why
yoga functions as an effective performance booster for athletes. ... Show more content on

Hatha yoga places a heavy emphasis on aerobics incorporating slow, deep, and rhythmical breaths into
its teachings. Due to this, runners use Hatha yoga to condition their aerobic capacity and function
without being enervated. Furthermore, running is a high impact exercise as it puts a stress equal to
eight times the body s weight on a person s feet (Simon). As a result of this, over time, this leads to the
constricting and dissipation of the leg muscles and foot joints, reduced flexibility, and reduced
muscular strength. (Simon). On the other hand. Hatha Yoga has proven to improve flexibility as well
as endurance of joints and muscles and preventing injuries in addition to helping with the stamina
required for strenuous runs (Surya Namaskar). Being that, Hatha yoga is used to effectively increase

The Importance Of Impression Management
Impression management is an inevitable part of human life. Impression management is a deliberate
and conscious form of desirability ... [that] requires cognitive effort (Uziel 202), or thought. It is not
supposed to be associated with one s actual behavior (Uziel 202), but, rather, impression management
is the image people portray of themselves by the use of behaviors to intentionally regulate the
impressions that observers have of oneself (Lewis and Neighbors 470). Patricia M. Rodriguez et al.
claim that people will present themselves in ways they believe will produce positive rewards and will
help them accomplish their goals (403), but different goals require different self presentations. Thus,
people must alter their impression management in pursuance of achieving their social objective. Mark
R. Leary and Ashley Batts Allen claim that people do not interact with others but rather make their
own impressions of that person (889). In other words, people go by their mental representations and
inferences they make about a person s character instead of who the person really is. In order to control
others impression of them, people may use manipulation and deception in their impression
management to present a favorable image of themselves. As a way to influence the perception of
others on themselves, people may use a strategy of being untruthful in their achievements and
behaviors that provide them with a mechanism to manufacture a positive outward image (Tyler and

Scott Sanders Staying Put Analysis
Scott Russell Sanders s Staying Put: Making a Home in a Restless World counters the
orthodoxy of a nation rooted in ideas. In response to an essay by Salman Rushdie, a migrant of
his native India, Sanders articulates the ceaseless nomadic thinking of Americans as a romantic,
heedless migration reaping no bounty. Sanders s writing challenges the American fanaticism of
migration wherein uprooting brings intolerance and thereby not only responds to a text but
creates literary value himself.
A definitive facet of Sanders s writing is his series, often paired with repeating
adjectives, pronouns, conjunctions, and prepositions. This combination of repetition and listing

Reflective Essay On Sonography
On Friday October 20th, I went to CDI south to shadow a sonographer. During this time, I got to sit
closely to my mentor Tanya, and watch her complete ultrasounds on patients, and learn a lot more
about the job. I was not able to do anything job related during this time, for many safety reasons, but I
was able to sit right next to Tanya as she completed many different ultrasounds. During this
shadowing session, we saw a total of 5 patients. Before every ultrasound, you have to prepare the
room for the patient by putting a sheet on the bed, putting a pillow cover on the pillow, and retrieving
towels for the patient after the ultrasound is over. The sonographers also have to prep the ultrasound
machine, and read over the patient s report and information to ensure they know the background of the
patient before they come in. The sonographer will then go out to the waiting room to grab the patient,
and bring them into the room, ask them certain questions about their medical conditions and
ultrasound, and then they will give the patient instructions and preform the ultrasound. The first
patient was a middle aged woman, and she came into CDI to receive a pelvic ultrasound to look at her
ovaries, kidneys, bladder, and other organs in this area. During this time, I got to see the patient s

The Argument And Critical Inquiry Essay
1. When was the last time you got into an argument? What is an argument? Is it the same as a shouting
match, a brawl? What does an argument have to do with critical thinking? What is the relationship
between arguments and critical inquiry?
The last time that I was involved in an argument, was on the drive to Cypress Hills. The argument was
based on whether the Cypress Hills are Mountains or Hills. An argument is a set of claims, that is
supported by premises. Although an argument may lead to a shouting match or a brawl, they are
speaking of the word argument in a different context. There is more than one definition to the word
argument. In our case we are interested in arguments as a set of claims, not a yelling match between
two people. Arguments are related to critical thinking, since you must evaluate the issue and form a
reasoned judgement.
2. Do you think teachers should teach students how to argue well? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, I think knowing how to form and structure sound, valid arguments is important. Students should
also learn common flaws and fallacies to arguments. Teaching students how to argue well, allows
them to create arguments based on evidence. Knowing these skills allows students to evaluate issues
and form reasoned judgements, which is beneficial in every day life. These skills can be taught many
ways in school, for example through the implementation of debates or the art of essay writing and can

affects the intestines (Longstreth, 2010). Like many illnesses, there is no cure for Crohn s as the exact
cause of it is unknown. There are a number of tests and procedures available that aide in making the
diagnosis of Crohn s disease. Stool cultures and blood work can suggest IBD but may not directly

patient returns to the office for removal of the data recorder. The capsule should normally pass
through the colon and be eliminated with a normal bowel movement. With traditional endoscopy, a
physician is required to perform and interpret the examination. However, capsule endoscopy can be

to the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy:
Capsule endoscopy helps your doctor evaluate the small intestine. This part of the bowel cannot be

How Was Imperialism Affected By Great Britain Imperialize...
Imperialism is the act of country trying to control a different country. Imperializing is basically a type
of government trying enlarge its size either by forcing in through war, or by influencing through

They were one of the biggest countires to imperialize. To be exact, Great Britain imperialized our 13
american colonies. A country that Great Britain imperialized was Nigeria in 1914. Local leaders in
agreed to sign treaties of protection with Great Britain. However there were some rebellions that did
not like the idea of Great Britain imperializing. However Great Britain used forces to put down, and
defeat those rebellions ( Roger B. Beck). From Great Britain imperializing Nigeria, the greatest
resource they were able get was palm oil trade along the river of Nigeria known as the Niger River.

Great Britain s interests in Imperializing india went up due to the trade post set up at Bombay made by

Adolf Hitler
Adolf Hitler
The one who does not remember history is bound to live through it again
George Santayana
Adolf Hitler is known for having the greatest impact on Europe in all of history, especially Germany.
Although the majority of people look down on him for his mass murder of about 6 million Jews in a
short time period, his story of influence on a whole country is incredible. He started out as a boy from
a little town in Austria with nothing more than a paintbrush and a dream; a dream to become an artist
and study at the Vienna Academy of Art. Although this infamous man is one of the most hated people
in history, his story is one that must be told.
Hitler was born on April 20, 1889 in the little town of Braunau am Inn, Austria. ... Show more content

A Führer is a German leader or guide, which is now related often to Hitler. Hitler s rise to power was
based on long term affects for Germany. The decade of depression left by the First World War, which
left Europe in great debt and starving. There was so much resentment in the Germans, which they
wanted a leader that could help them out of the state of depression that lasted so long. Hitler s Nazi s,
men who followed and helped Hitler to his rise of power, also had a reign of terror that scared Europe
and thus leading to Hitler s rise. Adolf Hitler was a very profound and persuasive public speaker. He
would make public speeches about how if he got into power, that he would guarantee food and health
for every person in Germany. One of his mottos was A Chicken In Every Pot, A [Volkswagon] In
Every Garage . This was a very promising statement for Germany; after all they had been through.
The Holocaust is the most infamous mass murder throughout all of history. It went on from January
30th, 1933 to May 8th, 1945 (V E Day). It was a plan to murder all people of the Jewish religion in
Europe. This was a very highly thought through plan created by Hitler to achieve his perfect race .
Hitler s anti Semitism acts were because he thought that it was a Jewish professor that turned Hitler
down from being able to study at the Academy in Vienna and also thought that it was a Jewish doctor
that could not help Adolf s mother live. When

Social Security a Challenge to Public Finance
The 1935 Franklin D. Roosevelt created the foundation for what today is Social Security. The bill
entitled the Economic Security Bill and was the starting point for Social security. (ssa.gov) Social
Security was enacted as part of the New Deal. Its purpose was to provide a safety net for the elderly
and their direct survivors, as well, temporary unemployment benefits. The funding was a compulsory
taxation of the employed workforce in shared responsibility with the employers (Hyman 2010 p. 312).
The legislation was clear on the system design during the time of creation. Pensions were funded
through tax payrolls, a separate tax for health insurance and finally the tax paid by the employers was
allocated to unemployment benefits.
The term public finance as defined is the spending by the government and methods required to pay for
spending (investorwords.com). Specifically, taxation and borrowing and the affect they have on the
overall budget. Social Security in the early years was considered a pension system of annuity monthly
payments. In1940, the ratio of workers to beneficiaries was 159.4. The average beneficiary had 159
individuals working to fund their annuity payments. In 2010 that number has depleted to 2.9 or for
every retiree, we have 2.9 employed individuals paying for 1 retiree or disabled individual (ssa.gov).
The social security system was not originally set up to be good deal for current and future workers
(Mariger, 1999). As shown by the current ratio, Social

Critical Analysis Of A Wrinkle In Time
Literary Analysis of Meg Murry
In the novel A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L Engle, Meg Murry is a young female character who
learns to lead and understands the power of love. In the novel, Meg changes from a girl who had
insecurities about her appearance, to a heroine. Meg goes on af journey to save her father, that leads
Meg to a whole other universe. There Meg learns how important the power of love can be, she also
learns new things about herself. Meg also does things she did not think she could do, and sees things
not even imaginable. Throughout the novel, A Wrinkle in Time, Meg proves to be a character who
shows insecurity, learns to lead, and understands love.
In A Wrinkle in Time, Meg shows insecurities about her appearance. For example, after a school Meg
thinks about how she makes bad grades and is not pretty and is not athletic. Like her 10 year old twin
brothers. Also, how some people are talking about her family behind their backs. She describes herself
as A delinquent, that s what I am, she thought grimly. That s what they ll be saying next. (1). This
shows that Meg thinks the lowest of the low of herself. Meg also thinks and knows that people talk
about her family behind her back. Also, how she thinks that they will talk about her next, and that she
will not be able to escape her mother s beautiful shadow. Meg looked up at her mother half in loving
admiration, half in sullen resentment. It was not an advantage to have a mother who was a scientist
and a beauty as well. (6) Meg resents and loves her mother at the same time. Meg wishes that her
mother were not so pretty compared to herself.
In A Wrinkle in Time, Meg learns to lead and not follow. For example, in the beginning Meg s
consistently holding people s hands. Could we hold hands? Meg asked (49). This shows that Meg
likes to feel secure, she doesn t like to lead or be in charge. But by the end of the story Meg learns that
sometimes she needs to be the bigger person, leave her comfort zone and take charge. That it has to be
me. It can t be anyone else. I don t understand Charles, but he understands me. I m the one who s

Examples Of Allusion In All The Light We Cannot See
In the novel, All The Light We Cannot See, the author, Anthony Doerr, uses allusion to convey how
Marie Laure (one of the main characters) interprets the book 20,000 leagues under the sea. Since she
is blind, Marie Laure reads in braille and was given two significant things to help her adjust to her
blindness; The book 20,000 leagues under the sea, and a handmade scale model of her town used for
navigation. As she continues to read the book she learns that Pages later, he [Captain Nemo] rammed a
warship full of men, passing through its hull like a sailmaker s needle through cloth (Doerr 445). This

up from the water again and belong to someone with ill intentions. The stone would be discovered in
another year, another day, another hour, when a storm claws one particular stone out of a canyon and
sends it into a clattering flow of alluvium, where it eventually finds, one evening, the attention of a
prince who knows what he is looking for. The Sea of flames was a diamond that everyone wanted out
of envy. It was priceless and beautiful, but was also cursed; It protects the person who has it until they
realize they can they survive on their own. Marie Laure s father gives her the stone, but she learns that
she never needed it in the first place and that it does more harm than good. She decides to tell her
friend Warner to throw it out in the water inside a box with a key from the Natural Museum of History,
where her father had worked. This event can be interpreted in many different ways, but the main idea
that sticks out is that Warner dies after he gets rid of the stone. Once he no longer possessed it, it could
no longer keep him safe. Everyone but him survived after the curse was lifted and the stone was given
back to the sea. This quote comes long after the initial event, and showcases that the stone would not

Effect Of Power Quality On A Smooth Industrial Process
Abstract As industries expand, utilities become more interconnected and the use of electricity rises,
power quality becomes essential to insure a smooth industrial process. The main problem that severely
affects the power s quality is the presence of the harmonics, which affects the performance of the
system. Some of the problem caused by the harmonics are metal parts overheating, increasing noises
in motors, decreasing the efficiency of the motors, etc. some corrective methods can be used to reduce

European Imperialism Created a Rift with the World
European Imperialism created a rift within the world. European powers saw the use of Imperialism, as
well justified and a mean of spreading their influence and securing their strength. However the nations
which found themselves under rule of an imperialistic power did not share the Europeans view on the
favors they were giving. European nations saw themselves fit to divide the uncivilized world, almost
in a pie like manner, to be placed under their reign. With this came many mistreatments of indigenous
traditions and the people themselves. King Leopold the Second s imperialistic claim on the Congo,
and the European attempts at controlling China both exemplify the disaster of Imperialism on the
human condition, and the resistance created by the people.
Both Africa and Qing China saw itself under the hungry eye of European powers. Meeting and
arrangements were created, without the native s knowledge, by European power to subdivide and
subjugate these lands for their own purposes, disregarding what the people of these lands desired.
Despotism is a legitimate mode of government in dealing with barbarians, provided the end be their
improvement. (King Leopolds Ghost, 2) The European powers present at the Berlin Conference of
1884, all saw themselves as a higher state of society, one that possessed a god granted right to control
the lands and the people of the less civilized nations. King Leopold himself saw to obtain as much
land as he pleased by manipulating the other

A Subarachnoid Hemorrhages
A Subarachnoid Hemorrhage, or SAH, is devastating and usually has a traumatic outcome. Basically,
an SAH is bleeding that occurs between the brain and what surrounds it. This surrounding area is
known as the arachnoid, thus the reasoning behind the name. The main cause of SAH is cerebral, or
brain aneurysms, because aneurysms usually have more fragile walls than normal vessels, putting
them at more of a risk to rupture. Subarachnoid hemorrhages are not something to be taken lightly, as
they have many dangers. Many people lack awareness of the dangers accompanied with subarachnoid
hemorrhages as soon as they occur, during the treatment of them, and even with life after surviving the
hemorrhage. First, as soon as a subarachnoid hemorrhage occurs, there are many dangers to consider.
While a brain aneurysm may not have any symptoms, an SAH does and they are unfortunately very
sudden. Since an SAH is bleeding from the arteries, the rupture causes abrupt bleeding. From The
Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine, Ms. Julia Barrett describes that the immediate danger caused by
subarachnoid hemorrhages would be ischemia. She states, Ischemia refers to tissue damage caused by
restricted or blocked blood flow. The areas of the brain that do not receive adequate blood and oxygen
can suffer irreparable injury, leading to permanent brain damage or death, thus agreeing that danger is
present from the very start with subarachnoid hemorrhages (Barrett). The rapid bleeding outside of the
brain

Cities Of London 1550-1625 And London
Cities of London 1550 1625 (including Stratford upon Avon, Oxford and London) What was the era of
1550 1625 like in England? Elizabethan Age The Elizabethan Age (1558 1603) is an epoch in English
history, remembered as a renaissance of classical ideals, naval triumph against the Spanish (which at
the time were disliked and considered a rival kingdom) and international expansion. This generated a
great wave of English nationalism. The era is marked by the reign of Queen Elizabeth I (1558 1603),
and is often hailed as the Golden Age of England . Stuart Period The Stuart Period (1603 1714) started
with the ascension of James VI of Scotland (thus being the first king of the United Kingdom) and
ended with the ascension of George I (from the House of Hanover). The age consisted of radical
politics and intense religious conflict. The age included an extremely bloody civil war. Where was

African American Male Enters The Criminal Judicial System,...
As reported by the U.S. Justice Department, there has been significant increase in incarcerated African
American males, in comparison to Hispanic and White males. It is believed that social interaction,
area of residency, and social networks have major influence on the increasing crime and incarceration
rates of African American males. A larger portion of White males hold more positions within the U.S.
Judicial system than African American males who make up a larger population of prison inmates and
less involvement in legislation. This coincides with data suggesting that African American s have
lower percentages of receiving or obtaining higher education, placing them in areas of low income and
less opportunities. Social inequality in the judicial system is questioned as well as demographics and
economics will be researched in order to provide in depth analysis of these national percentages of
African Americans. Additional research is conducted to investigate circumstances once an African
American male enters the criminal judicial system, and a generational cycle of crime. There is more
knowledge and potential opportunities within the prison system versus the lack of resources these
prisoners would feel they would have upon their release. The Judicial system appears to be White

The Media s Portrayal Of Women
Introduction
The portrayal of women in the media has drastically changed through the years. Those changes can be
viewed as positive or negative, but many times they impose an influence on female viewers. Those
influences often lead to damaging outcomes such as eating disorders and depression. The range of
influences and effects caused by the portrayal of women is wide and also includes low self esteem,
body image issues and the need to be a sex symbol. The Social Learning Theory is important in
understanding how women are affected by their presence in the media. The modeling process included
within the theory is essential to identifying how women are overwhelmed with images of the perfect
or ideal body. Those images are generally largely unrealistic. Many statistics show an increase of
eating disorders and other mental health issues as women are subjected to images of societal and
media perfection. This is an example of the modeling process. This paper will explain the effects and
concerns that result from exposure to the media s portrayal of women, what Social Learning is and
how it applies to that exposure.

Magic Boomerang Short Story
In a faraway land called Australia lived a tribe of aboriginals called the Luritja people. The land they
lived on was harsh and very hot but they had adapted over hundreds of years to be able to survive in
this rough country. They caught fish, hunted kangaroos, wallabies, lizards and snakes. In this tribe
lived a boy called Charlie and he spent his days playing with the other boys in the tribe, learning to
fish, hunt, track animals and he even learned what animals made the footprints in the red dirt. His
uncle would tell him stories of long ago (these are called Dreamtime stories) and he would sit really
still so he could listen to the whole story and not miss any of it. His grandfather made him a spear that
he could practice with and although it was not as large as his father s spear it could still be used to
hunt small creatures like lizards.
One day while Charlie watched his older brother practice throwing a boomerang and making it return
to him. He thought this must be a magical boomerang and he wanted a magic one too but he did not
know how he would get it. His father told him he was too small for a boomerang as he would not be
able to throw it and have it return to him. Charlie thought that was not fair he really wanted a magic

would be a magic one.

David Wallace Big Fish Analysis
In David Wallace s Big Fish the readers are introduced to Edward Bloom, the main protagonist and a
larger than life character. The course of the story follows the ebb and flow of adventure in Edward s
life, beginning from a young age in the mystical town of Ashland, and eventually ending poetically in
a guest room. While both of these events may seem normal enough it is the occurences, as described
by Edward, that take place in between that blur the line between fantasy and reality. Therefore, in Big
Fish by David Wallace, Edward s stories teach about the spontaneity of life and the knowledge we can

A great illustration of this would be the story of Kyle the giant. To further illustrate, while most of the
townspeople regard Kyle as a monstrous being who is intent on destroying them all, Edward is able to
see past their fear and of his own accord reason with and understand Kyle. This is an obvious lesson
about not judging a book by its over. Furthermore, while the story of the big catfish ultimately drives
Edward and William apart, the reasoning behind it can be inferred; Edward is trying to glamourize his
life for his son, rather than bore him by telling him a simple business trip away, he wants to astound
him with his own strength and majesty. While the story itself doesn t have the desired effect, it does
teach a lesson about being true to yourself and how much of an effect being truthful can have. While
most of the stories within the book can teach a lesson, or a truth, about life, none of them really are the
factual truth and the reader as well as William begin to question if you can really learn something

  • 2. 11th Christmas Essay My 11th Christmas It was December 25th the day I become part Methodist, the day in which people believe god s son was born, the day my family goes to my aunt s house to celebrate Christmas. It was also the day in which we received presents from our relatives and that s why I was so excited. This day was so special to my relatives, that they even made all three meals for us. Ding dong. The doorbell rang, we were standing on our aunt s brick porch. I looked in the side window next to the door and saw my grandmother making her way off the couch. Hey, the kids are here, my grandmother said as she walked to the door. I could hear her unlocking the door. Creak! The wooden door opened. They had the football on the TV and it looked as if they were already starting the party. We only come to this house for this type of occasion. Hello, my dad replied, slightly raising his hand and smiling as if my grandmother made this joke. My dad was wearing a golf shirt with hiking pants. Come on in, my grandfather said in the background as he slowly made his way to the door. We walked in. The walls were still white, the small wooden dining room to the left of the door was still there along with my uncle s small office to the right. Overall it didn t look like they changed anything, I could still see the small hallway leading to the garage and the couches next to the television screen. But the amount of presents lying under the Christmas tree next to the stairs was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Politics In Haiti As a developing nation, Haiti relies on international aid organizations to deliver some basic services and necessities that the government is not able to. In the wake of the 2010 earthquake and the subsequent cholera outbreak, Haiti needed aid organizations more than ever, so much so that the aid community unintentionally gained political power. Recently, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) stalled an economic aid package bound for Haiti due to the postponement of elections. The IMF did not think it was prudent to disburse aid to an interim government with little to no experience expending aid and the World Bank and the Inter American Dialogue Bank have taken similar stances. To be sure, foreign aid is essential for poor Haitians. Without ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Transparency International, a think tank based in Berlin, Germany, Ranks countries/territories based on how corrupt a country s public sector is perceived to be. On a scale of one to one hundred, one being the most corrupt and 100 being very clean, Haiti received a score of 17/100, making it the 158th most corrupt country out of the 168 surveyed by Transparency International. As one of the most corrupt countries in the world, it will be difficult for Haiti to attract foreign investment, curb political violence, and create sustainable institutions without implementing stringent anti corruption measures. I have known Rick since 1998 when, as Associate Computer Programmers, we worked together on Welfare to Work (under Fred Teti). It is with mixed feelings that I bid Rick farewell. I am happy for him as he enters this new phase of his life, but I will miss him both professionally and personally. As we move forward in our transformation, there is still much change ahead and we are faced with the continuing challenge of balancing our ongoing workload, migrating data centers, and the organizational changes required to to address our evolving service delivery model. • 5. “Our Health Care System Has Significant Safety And Quality Our health care system has significant safety and quality problems, Linda Cronenwett said. To fix that, we need to redesign what and how we teach the next generation of nurses and other healthcare professionals so that they understand what goes into ensuring good and safe care, and can identify and bridge the gaps between what is and what should be (Hirst, O Segedy, 2011). Robert Wood Johnson Foundation funds national study to educate nursing students on patient safety and healthcare quality. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation awarded the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing a $590,000 grant to evaluate and enhance nursing school curriculum on the topics of quality and safety. The focus was on instilling the competencies in textbooks, licensing, accreditation and certification standards; and promotion which continued innovation in teaching the competencies. The six competencies are patient centered care, teamwork and collaboration, evidence based practice, quality improvement, safety, and informatics. In the first two phases of QSEN, the goal was to identify what s out there now, what s missing, and what s wrong. The conclusion reached was that our nursing schools need to equip the next generation of nurses to help drive change in health care. Therefore in the final phase of the project, there was innovation in the way students were taught, tested, and certified (Hirst, O Segedy, 2011). Many patients lack access to care due to the severe nursing shortage, and the lack of safety and quality care. The next generation of nurses, can make important contributions on all fronts, if they take on the challenge. • 7. Thirty Years War Background A thorough understanding of the Thirty Years War is essential in discussing the effects of the Peace of Westphalia. Religion dominated authority in Europe in the 16th century, namely Catholicism. However, dissatisfaction grew as the Protestant Reformation gained more followers, resulting in tension and divisions throughout the Holy Roman Empire. Weakened imperial power and unrest between ruler and subjects began as early as 1555. Although the Thirty Years War broke out based on religious conflicts, the motives of the war became mainly of political supremacy as fighting continued on a continental scale in the latter years. • 8. Obesity and Omega-3s Reduce Appetite Essay Appetite, by definition, is a term used to describe ones natural desire for food. It differs from hunger and satiety, and it is affected by a host of neural, hormonal and physical factors that may vary between individuals. This essay sets out to explain how these factors affect the appetite. In doing so the essay will explore the different regions of the brain (and the body) involved in its regulation and control, and the ways in which these areas may be pharmacologically and surgically manipulated to control the appetite itself. Appetite can be described as ones instinctual desire for food. The smell and sight of food can trigger thoughts that lead to an increased flow of gastric juices in both the mouth and stomach. Sometimes however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are several key hormones that play a part in reducing or increasing appetite. Some of these hormones include Ghrelin, Leptin, Insulin, Amylin, Obestatin and Triodothyroxine. All are essential in the control of body weight through their short and long term actions. Following the ingestion of carbohydrates and proteins, insulin is released from pancreatic islet cells. Whilst the brain is not insulin dependent, the arcuate nucleus contains protein receptors that respond to insulin (as well as Leptin)[7]. As insulin inhibits NPY/AgRP secreting neurons and activates POMC releasing neurons, it reduces the appetite and as a result regulates body weight. This is backed up even further by scientific claims that insulin resistance is linked to obesity, and type II diabetes can be associated with a loss in insulin regulation[8]. Modern scientific research has also linked the hormone leptin to appetite and feeding behavours. Leptin is a hormone (produced by the fat cells) that naturally suppresses the appetite. In general, the more fat you have, the more leptin you produce. When working efficiently, Leptin signals to the brain to indicate if energy stores (such as fat) are adequate or inadequate. It does so in the arcuate nucleus by inhibiting stimulatory neurons by stimulating inhibitory fibers. It appears it is possible however for the arcuate nucleus to become ... • 9. The Importance Of Religion In Literature Religion guides humans to a higher order of existence through the collective organization of beliefs, cultural identities, and world views. Religion seeks to define the meaning of life and human existence through historical narratives, symbols, and faith. Since the birth of religions, these have adopted a central focus of the way people live, their lifestyle choices, and their boundaries. In doing so, religion has been used as a preeminent theme in works of literature since the ancient world, as the greater part of first written texts were religious stories. Throughout centuries however, writers have been adapting religion in literature in many different ways, such as in: Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler, Dracula by Bram Stoker, and On the Road by Langston Hughes. Religion in these literary works has played a life changing role in the lives of its characters. In these texts, some characters accept established religions while others reject it, instead, focusing their time on creating their own. In Octavia Butler s Parable of the Sower, the stories heroine, Lauren Olamina, daughter of a Baptist minister during a degenerative and apocalyptic United States. Inside of the walls of her gated community, religion is presented as the unifying doctrine keeping everyone together in times of excruciating chaos. However, Lauren is beginning to mature as a young woman and has begun to question her Christian faith; and as a result, seeks to create her own religion, Earthseed. ... • 10. Declaration Of Independence Persuasive Essay I couldn t happen, but notice the terrible disagreement you engaged in with your dearest lover Allie. The way you two were talking to each other and the words that were exchanged appeared to be a huge conflict. To begin, the first problem you seem to have is relationship dissolution. Relationship dissolution is the breaking or dissolving of the bonds that hold the relationship together. A huge reason behind this may be because you are very verbally abusive. When you called Allie names such as pain in the ass it did not help, but make the conflict worse. Instead of calling Allie names you should seek to engage in more productive communication such as, not using vulgar words or explaining the issue is a more appropriate manner. In addition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Force is when you are act like you are in control and do not give the other person an alternate choice, but to choose your opinion. Allie needs time to think over her decision. Seemingly, as you are discussing the issue you are putting an exuberant amount force on Allie to choose you. This is very unfair because it takes away from what Allie wishes to do. As you are forcing your opinion on Allie, it takes away her ability to form an opinion on her own. This problem is seen through your conflict as you make statements such as, Would you just stay with me? or Well I hate you. If you leave here. I hate you . Each of these statements force Allie into wanting to stay with you instead of giving her space to make her own decision. A possible solution to this problem would be to use active listening. Active listening is requiring the listener to be fully concentrated and open to what the other individual is trying to communicate. While you are actively listening you must not make any judgements about what Allie is saying. Active listening will allow for you to hear Allie s opinion without adding your judgement in. Also, this solution will help Allie feel more appreciated and accepted by you. If you were able to fully listen to what Allie is saying, you most likely would avoid forcing your own opinion on ... During the Civil War, our nation was divided by the North (Union Army) and the South (Confederate Army) for opposing viewpoints on slavery and states rights. The Battle of Gettysburg was fought over three long, arduous days. The soldiers struggled under their respected generals in a 25 mile battle zone ( American Civil War ). This battle was a triumphant victory and a heart wrenching loss for the troops of the Yankee North and Rebel South. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, the Confederates retained control of only Seminary Ridge. This setback for the South was likely the result of General Ewell s failure to follow Lee s command (King 15 17). Despite this, the Rebel s morale remained optimistic as they initiated the fighting on the following morning (King 18). Union forces retaliated and saved their position until one of General Meade s commanders staged his own offensive battle (Appleby, Joyce 486; King 22). This Union general was Dan Sickles. By moving his position without consulting General Meade, a bulge was created. This foolish mistake allowed 1,600 Confederate soldiers to rush the Union line to overtake Peach Orchard, capturing 1,000 Yankee prisoners (King 22). Another Union Army general, G.K. Warren, secured and protected a hill called Little Round Top before Confederates claimed it which helped combat the loss from Sickle s blunder ( American Civil War ). At this point in the Battle of Gettysburg, both North and South sustained large numbers of casualties. The Southern casualties roughly totaled 7,000 of 22,000 troops. The North suffered even more by losing 15,000 soldiers. Both sides needed to re evaluate their battle strategies. Lee thought victory for the South was possible with better timing and artillery. Conversely, Meade and his other Union generals decided to stay in their current position and continue the battle (King 22). After dawn on July 3, 1863, Union soldiers fired upon ... It summarizes and anticipates themes that are developed in his other works. Even though Kierkegaard s treasure on anxiety is not a readable material, that shines though the book is that anxiety is linked to love in the case of positively and also in the context of negative. A being in anxiety can close himself up within himself, but in anxiety he can also become aware of himself in such a way that he sees the relationship between himself and other human being. To live in freedom necessitates that we are living with anxiety and to be truly human means being free. But it can also be a very negative thing, the weight of the responsibility of freedom is the most big burden one can bear and it has the potential to drive us as human into the emptiness of respire. It is so clear from Kierkegaard s analysis that when we are at the very bottom of the negative accepts of anxiety that we must find rest in God. When we are weary from bearing the weight of freedom, when we are terrified of living before an eternal Changeless one then may we find rest in God. The project was initiated by Ted Taylor and Francis de Hoffman, founders of General Atomic and by physicist Freeman Dyson of Princeton s Institute for Advanced Study on 1958 in San Diego [2]. Their goal was to land on Mars by 1965 and to Saturn by 1970 [1]. They were funded by the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) in July for $1 million per year. There came a time in 1959 when ARPA no longer was able to support Project Orion due to insufficient funds and approached the Air Force for funding [1]. The Air Force reluctantly decided to fund only if they can find a use for it. The Secretary of Defense, Robert McNamara, refused to increase funding to Project Orion as he felt it was not a military asset [2]. The Orion team inquired NASA for funding as its current funding would not be enough to build a flyable spacecraft [2]. Until recently, yoga has defined as an ancient discipline designed to bring balance and health to the physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions of an individual (Ross 3). However, in today s age professional athletes, strongmen, runners, and bodybuilders define yoga as a performance booster as they incorporate its teachings into their training regimens. Yoga practice emphasizes vigorous flexibility, conditioning, and balance work; mainly through Hatha yoga and Vinyasa yoga. As a result, factoring these aspects, it functions as an effective performance booster. Be that as it may, opposition lies in the testament of the benefits that yoga provides. [that] requires cognitive effort (Uziel 202), or thought. It is not supposed to be associated with one s actual behavior (Uziel 202), but, rather, impression management is the image people portray of themselves by the use of behaviors to intentionally regulate the impressions that observers have of oneself (Lewis and Neighbors 470). Patricia M. Rodriguez et al. claim that people will present themselves in ways they believe will produce positive rewards and will help them accomplish their goals (403), but different goals require different self presentations. Thus, people must alter their impression management in pursuance of achieving their social objective. Mark R. Leary and Ashley Batts Allen claim that people do not interact with others but rather make their own impressions of that person (889). In other words, people go by their mental representations and inferences they make about a person s character instead of who the person really is. In order to control others impression of them, people may use manipulation and deception in their impression management to present a favorable image of themselves. As a way to influence the perception of others on themselves, people may use a strategy of being untruthful in their achievements and behaviors that provide them with a mechanism to manufacture a positive outward image (Tyler and Feldman ... In response to an essay by Salman Rushdie, a migrant of his native India, Sanders articulates the ceaseless nomadic thinking of Americans as a romantic, heedless migration reaping no bounty. Sanders s writing challenges the American fanaticism of migration wherein uprooting brings intolerance and thereby not only responds to a text but creates literary value himself. A definitive facet of Sanders s writing is his series, often paired with repeating adjectives, pronouns, conjunctions, and prepositions. • 21. The Argument And Critical Inquiry Essay 1. When was the last time you got into an argument? What is an argument? Is it the same as a shouting match, a brawl? What does an argument have to do with critical thinking? What is the relationship between arguments and critical inquiry? The last time that I was involved in an argument, was on the drive to Cypress Hills. The argument was based on whether the Cypress Hills are Mountains or Hills. An argument is a set of claims, that is supported by premises. Although an argument may lead to a shouting match or a brawl, they are speaking of the word argument in a different context. There is more than one definition to the word argument. In our case we are interested in arguments as a set of claims, not a yelling match between two people. Arguments are related to critical thinking, since you must evaluate the issue and form a reasoned judgement. 2. Do you think teachers should teach students how to argue well? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes, I think knowing how to form and structure sound, valid arguments is important. Students should also learn common flaws and fallacies to arguments. Teaching students how to argue well, allows them to create arguments based on evidence. Knowing these skills allows students to evaluate issues and form reasoned judgements, which is beneficial in every day life. European powers saw the use of Imperialism, as well justified and a mean of spreading their influence and securing their strength. However the nations which found themselves under rule of an imperialistic power did not share the Europeans view on the favors they were giving. European nations saw themselves fit to divide the uncivilized world, almost in a pie like manner, to be placed under their reign. With this came many mistreatments of indigenous traditions and the people themselves. King Leopold the Second s imperialistic claim on the Congo, and the European attempts at controlling China both exemplify the disaster of Imperialism on the human condition, and the resistance created by the people. Both Africa and Qing China saw itself under the hungry eye of European powers. Meeting and arrangements were created, without the native s knowledge, by European power to subdivide and subjugate these lands for their own purposes, disregarding what the people of these lands desired. Basically, an SAH is bleeding that occurs between the brain and what surrounds it. This surrounding area is known as the arachnoid, thus the reasoning behind the name. The main cause of SAH is cerebral, or brain aneurysms, because aneurysms usually have more fragile walls than normal vessels, putting them at more of a risk to rupture. Subarachnoid hemorrhages are not something to be taken lightly, as they have many dangers. Many people lack awareness of the dangers accompanied with subarachnoid hemorrhages as soon as they occur, during the treatment of them, and even with life after surviving the hemorrhage. First, as soon as a subarachnoid hemorrhage occurs, there are many dangers to consider. While a brain aneurysm may not have any symptoms, an SAH does and they are unfortunately very sudden. Since an SAH is bleeding from the arteries, the rupture causes abrupt bleeding. From The Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine, Ms. Julia Barrett describes that the immediate danger caused by subarachnoid hemorrhages would be ischemia. She states, Ischemia refers to tissue damage caused by restricted or blocked blood flow. The areas of the brain that do not receive adequate blood and oxygen can suffer irreparable injury, leading to permanent brain damage or death, thus agreeing that danger is present from the very start with subarachnoid hemorrhages (Barrett). In order to understand why he did this, the reader must know about the historical context of the story. World War II was a brutal and extensive conflict between the Allies and the Axis. Causing were over 50 million deaths, the war had a far reaching physical and emotional effect on the entire world ( World War II ). They also discuss new business such as approving budgets and achievements. The general format of the meeting is the board members sit in the front of the general attendees and the president sits in the middle of all the board members. Staff members sit to the right and left of the board members. The atmosphere was very welcoming, and they spoke of the business like they actually cared. They spent about one hour discussing the cafeteria report. I thought this was quite interesting. They care that the kids are not eating, and want to make a plan to buy better food that the kids will actually eat. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ninety percent of all the board members, staff, and attendees were white. There is nothing wrong with that, but it just proves what the textbook mentions. It was a huge comparison than when I attended a school district meeting in a poverty district. It is different because there was parents attending the meeting in Norris, and the business they discuss is different as well. All of the members were friendly and respectful with each other. There has to be more diversity in all of the districts. They talked about cafeteria food for an hour, it seems surprising to me because I could only wish all of the school districts biggest concern would be what the kids ... • 40. African American Male Enters The Criminal Judicial System,... As reported by the U.S. Justice Department, there has been significant increase in incarcerated African American males, in comparison to Hispanic and White males. It is believed that social interaction, area of residency, and social networks have major influence on the increasing crime and incarceration rates of African American males. A larger portion of White males hold more positions within the U.S. Judicial system than African American males who make up a larger population of prison inmates and less involvement in legislation. This coincides with data suggesting that African American s have lower percentages of receiving or obtaining higher education, placing them in areas of low income and less opportunities. Social inequality in the judicial system is questioned as well as demographics and economics will be researched in order to provide in depth analysis of these national percentages of African Americans. Additional research is conducted to investigate circumstances once an African American male enters the criminal judicial system, and a generational cycle of crime. There is more knowledge and potential opportunities within the prison system versus the lack of resources these prisoners would feel they would have upon their release. The Judicial system appears to be White male dominated due to factors regarding higher education, as well as opportunities or resources to pursue careers of higher statuses. The percentage of black adults who obtained a bachelor s degree ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. The Media s Portrayal Of Women Introduction The portrayal of women in the media has drastically changed through the years. Those changes can be viewed as positive or negative, but many times they impose an influence on female viewers. Those influences often lead to damaging outcomes such as eating disorders and depression. The range of influences and effects caused by the portrayal of women is wide and also includes low self esteem, body image issues and the need to be a sex symbol. The Social Learning Theory is important in understanding how women are affected by their presence in the media. • 44. Magic Boomerang Short Story In a faraway land called Australia lived a tribe of aboriginals called the Luritja people. The land they lived on was harsh and very hot but they had adapted over hundreds of years to be able to survive in this rough country. They caught fish, hunted kangaroos, wallabies, lizards and snakes. In this tribe lived a boy called Charlie and he spent his days playing with the other boys in the tribe, learning to fish, hunt, track animals and he even learned what animals made the footprints in the red dirt. His uncle would tell him stories of long ago (these are called Dreamtime stories) and he would sit really still so he could listen to the whole story and not miss any of it. His grandfather made him a spear that he could practice with and although it was not as large as his father s spear it could still be used to hunt small creatures like lizards. One day while Charlie watched his older brother practice throwing a boomerang and making it return to him. He thought this must be a magical boomerang and he wanted a magic one too but he did not know how he would get it. His father told him he was too small for a boomerang as he would not be able to throw it and have it return to him. Charlie thought that was not fair he really wanted a magic boomerang and no one was going to help him so he decided he would make one for himself and it would be a magic one. Charlie walked over to the little house where his grandfather lived (in the aboriginal language these are called humpies). His ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. David Wallace Big Fish Analysis In David Wallace s Big Fish the readers are introduced to Edward Bloom, the main protagonist and a larger than life character. The course of the story follows the ebb and flow of adventure in Edward s life, beginning from a young age in the mystical town of Ashland, and eventually ending poetically in a guest room. While both of these events may seem normal enough it is the occurences, as described by Edward, that take place in between that blur the line between fantasy and reality. Therefore, in Big Fish by David Wallace, Edward s stories teach about the spontaneity of life and the knowledge we can gain from the stories of others. Throughout Big Fish Edward Bloom is known for exaggerating the truth of his life, however it is never ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A great illustration of this would be the story of Kyle the giant. To further illustrate, while most of the townspeople regard Kyle as a monstrous being who is intent on destroying them all, Edward is able to see past their fear and of his own accord reason with and understand Kyle. This is an obvious lesson about not judging a book by its over. Furthermore, while the story of the big catfish ultimately drives Edward and William apart, the reasoning behind it can be inferred; Edward is trying to glamourize his life for his son, rather than bore him by telling him a simple business trip away, he wants to astound him with his own strength and majesty. While the story itself doesn t have the desired effect, it does teach a lesson about being true to yourself and how much of an effect being truthful can have. While most of the stories within the book can teach a lesson, or a truth, about life, none of them really are the factual truth and the reader as well as William begin to question if you can really learn something from another individual s ...
