Essay On Memory
Crafting an essay on the intricate subject of memory is undoubtedly a challenging endeavor.
Delving into the complexities of this topic requires a thoughtful exploration of psychological,
neurological, and even philosophical dimensions. The process involves not only synthesizing
existing knowledge but also grappling with the elusive nature of memory itself.
Memory is a multifaceted phenomenon, encompassing various cognitive processes that interplay
with emotions, perceptions, and experiences. Unraveling the mechanisms behind memory
formation, retention, and retrieval demands a nuanced understanding of both the biological
underpinnings and the psychological factors at play. The challenge lies in navigating the vast
body of research and theories, distilling key concepts, and presenting them in a coherent and
engaging manner.
Furthermore, the subjective nature of memory introduces an additional layer of complexity.
Memories are not static; they evolve, fade, and can be influenced by various external factors.
Analyzing the reliability of memory poses an intellectual puzzle, requiring a critical examination
of the factors that shape our recollections and the implications of memory's malleability.
The task of crafting an essay on memory also calls for a delicate balance between scientific rigor
and accessibility. Communicating intricate scientific concepts in a way that resonates with a
diverse audience while maintaining the academic integrity of the content is no small feat.
Striking this balance involves careful consideration of language, tone, and structure.
In conclusion, writing an essay on memory demands a blend of scientific acumen, critical
thinking, and effective communication skills. It requires navigating through the labyrinth of
research, understanding the complexities of memory, and presenting insights in a manner that
captivates and informs the reader. While the challenge may be daunting, the rewards lie in
unraveling the mysteries of this fundamental aspect of human cognition.

The Impact Of Quality Cost On Total Quality Management
Chapter 1
The Impact of Quality Cost on Total Quality Management
The Case of Private sector in Bahrain
Introduction:
The few past decades have witnessed unlimited number of changes in the business
and organizational contexts due to the numerous modifications that took place in the
world markets and economies. One of these changes must have been the openness of
the global markets and becoming one market. This forced almost every company to
do its best to produce the best products that grant this company a good position in the
global market. And thus they achieve high profits in addition to the best image and
reputation for this company. This can be the stem upon which quality of the products
were built.
Significance of the study: The current study is shedding light on two of the most
important recently used concepts in the domain of organizational management which
are: COQ or Cost Of Quality and TQM or Total Quality Management. These two
concepts are highly related with making the consumers of products and services
satisfied. This would ultimately bring good position ... Show more content on

This created great pressures on organizations and made them willing to create and
innovate so that they can gain competitive advantage over their rivals in the world
markets. Adding quality to the final products may be one element that attracts and
satisfies the customers. However, elements there have been numerous elements or
factors that started to occur in the management and organizational domains. These
included TQM or Total quality Management and COQ or Cost Of Quality. These
concepts and more became dominant aspects that required concentration from
companies. TQM is not only a strategy to be applied; it is an approach of
management that must prevail all over the whole organization. The practices of the
TQM are essential to exist in the
If Shakespeare Can Do It
If Shakespeare Can Do It Because my wife has an English degree, she always
defends her made up words and grammar rules by simply stating, Shakespeare did it,
I can too. Now, I don t always agree with her just because I have an English degree
attitude, but we do agree on one small thing: The written English language needs a
singular gender neutral pronounthat replaces the clunky alternatives English speakers
have now. English is a relatively young language compared to most others still around
today. Currently, we are taught that the use of singular theyis incorrect, and instead
we should use either he, him or her, or s/he, when referring to someone whose gender
is unclear. Others say English writers should move toward a singular pronounto use
with a singular antecedent.
How perfect is it that English speakers already use this particular pronoun? Singular
they. Think about it. Typically, when people speak, they do not use his or her or s/he.
People use they when referring to one person of an undetermined gender. For
example, Someone left their coat here, we should let them know. That makes perfect
sense to us. We know that them in this sentence refers to the singular antecedent
someone.
Language evolves alongside it s society, because of this, you don t see many
English speakers still using thou to refer to one person. As many people know,
singular thou was a more formal and polite way of saying you . Sometime in the 18th
century, the use of

Essay The Effect of pH on the Digestion of Casein by Trypsin
The Effect of pH on the Digestion of Casein by Trypsin
When planning the experiment, the equipment and method had to be well thought
out in order for the experiment to be accurate and efficient.
Firstly, I have chose to use a 1% trypsin concentration then altered it to 0.8%, because
a higher concentration means more trypsin molecules in the solution and therefore
more enzyme substrate complexes are likely to occur with the casein in the milk,
causing digestion of the casein to be faster. However, I don t wantowever digestion
to occur too quickly as I will not be able to analyse the effect of PH. Therefore, I
chose a lower concentration which would allow me to test the percentage
transmission at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, PH is the independent variable I am testing; therefore, its constancy is
important.
Variables in the experiment will need to be controlled and the following need to be
kept constant
* Concentration of trypsin
* Amounts of reagents
* Enzyme to substrate ratio
* Temperature
* Method of measuring solutions
I will use equal amounts of trypsin, milk, PH, buffer and distilled water in all the
experiments and will use the same measuring equipment to ensure fair representation
of the effect of different PH on digestion. If variables aren t adequately controlled
then the data collected would be erroneous and would not represent the true effects
of PH on digestion as altering variables could lead to changes in rate of reaction.
As we know the collision theory states that the more collisions in a system, the more
likely the molecules will react and therefore the faster the reaction. Rates of reaction
can be affected by variables such as concentration, as more molecules of the substance
are present therefore increasing the chance of a collision, another is temperature.
All enzymes have an optimum temperature at which they work the fastest, this is
because more kinetic energy is available and particles move faster resulting in more
collisions and hence more

Every day something like this in the lunch line happens, if three dollars for a small
lunch isn t enough, then I don t know what is. These days in schools, lunchprices have
gone way up and is getting to the point where it s getting close to 4 dollars.
For the amount of food that kids get in the lunch line, the price is outrageous. The
price for school lunch should be about $2.10 for three chicken tenders, a couple
fries and 1 pint of milk. Grades 6 12 have to pay an overpriced $3.15, Loudoun

Thucydides s Democratic Debate
Democratic Debate
The forum style debate is a frequent motif in Thucydides s retelling of history.
Although he notes that his accounts may not be precisely accurate, his depictions of
public discussion yield particular insight into the functioning of ancient democracy.
The Debate at Syracuse is a unique example of these forum debates because its
content is both particular to the potential Athenian invasion of Syracuse and
concerned with the more abstract ideological debate over the merits of democracy.
However, in this debate, the democratic leader Athenagoras, in his disagreement with
Hermocrates, espouses a philosophy dissonant with our contemporary understanding
of democracy, indicating that the Greek democratic ideals are fundamentally distinct
from modern interpretations. Hermocrates s advocacy for increased outward
preparation for an Athenian invasion is well reasoned, concrete, and respectful, traits
closely aligned with current democratic ideals. Hermocrates opens with a testimony
of his patriotism despite his own unpopularity, saying I shall not remain quiet when
my city is in danger (Thucydides 6.33), casting his viewpoint as dissenting at least
from popular opinion a right now held up as an essential pillar of democratic society.
Moreover, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He tells the crowd that this city of ours is by itself much stronger than their supposed
army of invasion (Thucydides 6.37), and that even if Athens brought an entire city
with them they would still be woefully unequipped to make war with Syracuse. This
is patently untrue, as is demonstrated in Syracuse s oncoming defeat, but it also
betrays Athenagoras s lack of decency because moments later, he condemns the
villainous fabrications of his opposition, without a hint of recognition that the only
fabrications are
Argumentative Essay About Skiers

Skier
As the weather gets colder and snow begins to blanket the ground, most people start
complaining about frigid temperatures and back breaking shoveling. However, there
is a group of people who thrive during these frozen winter months. They are known
as skiers. The dictionary definition of downhill , or alpine, skiing is simply the sport
or recreation of sliding down snow covered hills on skis with fixed heel bindings.
Does that do skiers justice? As a dedicated skier, I think that definition is insulting.
There is so much more to skiing than just standing on some pieces of metal and
plastic. Some people think of skiers as bums who like taking risks and sleeping out
of their car in gas station parking lots. There are also those who characterize skiers
as rich snobs who have nothing better to spend their time and money on. However,
those are extremes. Most people are between those beliefs, and identify skiers as ...

Some people can not deal with the cold, others find the sport too physically
demanding, and still more would rather spend their time and/or money on other
endeavors. Skiing is not easy. Being a skier is not simply putting on boots,
standing on skis, and letting gravity do the work. However, skiing is worth the
difficulties! There is nothing that can compare to the satisfaction of spending a
day out on the slopes. You might find that you can relate to weekend warriors ,
enjoyers , racers , freestylers , a combination of categories, or neither of these!
However, one thing that all skiers have in common is that they enjoy being active
outside and being adventurous. Everyone will have their own personal style of
skiing, but in the end skiing is all about the freedom of being able to live in the
moment. There are few things these days that allow people to do this. Skiing allows
people to forget about the past and future and simply take pleasure in everything life

Naomi Shihab Nye s Work
Words cannot describe how much I needed Naomi Shihab Nye s work in my life.
Just as she said in her short story, which also happens to be one of my favorite
works of hers, My Boyfriend, John Mayer , I noticed with some interest how a
person who is down seems much improved when faced with someone who is more
down than they are. It s all a matter of degrees (Nye, 175). It has been so long since
a poem, or a set of poems, has resonated so deeply within my person. Of course
from time to time I come across one that will make me reminisce or truly think
deeper than what is due the next class period, but in the blaring monotony of an
unsatisfying daily routine shoved me low enough I hadn t stopped for a moment to
see others who were even farther down than I was. In an attempt to find who we are
and what we want to do in life, I feel like we often abandon who we are at the given
moment in attempt to capture whatever farfetched idea pops into our head or on our
Facebook timeline that inspires us for a brief moment that we need more. More what?
Entertainment? Adventure?
In all reality we don t need anything. If we take a moment to stop, look around us
and take it all in, we are blessed beyond measure. I am blessed enough to have the
opportunity to stress about finals week in a college course that I don t even have to
pay for out of my own pocket. Someone who does a brilliant job of highlighting
moments
that I would never think twice of glancing right over is Naomi Shihab Nye.
What Is The Balance Scorecard Perspective
2.2.3. Balanced Scorecard Perspective Ade Asefeso (2013), stated that ,BSC provides
a framework to translate the organization strategy in to specific quantifiable
performance objective that can be measured . Thus, the performance objective are
measured using the four inter connected perspective i.e. The financial perspective,
customer perspective ,internal business perspective and learning and growth
perspective and each perspectives explained as follows. Figure 1. Balanced scorecard
four perspective Source: Kaplan and Norton ( 1996 ) 2.2.3.1. Customer Perspective
Deals with how the customers see the company .This perspective focus primarily on
customer satisfaction . Since customer satisfaction and retention is linked to the long
term growth and survival of the company .It helps in the long term planning of the
company .the goal is to measure the value delivered to the customers by meeting
customers demands and needs(Ade Asefeso,2013). According to Niven (2006), when
choosing measures for the Customer perspective of the Scorecard, organizations must
answer three critical questions: Who are our target customers? What is our value...

Internal Process perspectives, you can be certain of discovering some gaps between
your current organizational infrastructure of employee skills (human capital),
information systems (informational capital), and the environment required to

Saturday Night Fever Research Paper
Normally, when most people think about the 1970s (Avoid broad statements like
this...), one of the first things that comes to mind is music. So much music came out
in that decade, and the majority of it was influential on the time period (What do you
mean by this statement? How was it influential? Again, avoid big, broad statements
like this). One of these styles of music, disco is one of the most well known and
thought of during the time. Because so many people loved disco, there was no
particular demographic and everyone could enjoy the time at the newly popular
discotheques. It was described by Steve D Aquisto as like a cross between outer
space and a big playhouse. In addition to being a completely new craze, it also
brought different cultures... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of the mainstream shift, thanks to Saturday Night Fever. music was
revolutionized forever. Artists such as the Bee Gees, Donna Summer, Michael
Jackson and the Village People were all successful disco musicians that changed
music for the better. Each one of those artists, and many more had their albums
played in clubs on the weekend, and everyone would dance to them. A lot of
people did not like this music however. Specifically, there was two groups that
opposed disco music after Saturday Night Fever. One of these groups were the
original members of the underground disco scene. A quote from a review of
Saturday Night Fever by disco historian Dennis Brumm states That movie was
about a group of straight, homophobic, racist, Italian American twentysomethings
in New York who went dancing wearing odd looking clothes and probably too
much aftershave lotion. They looked nothing much like the people I saw or knew
in gay discos. In addition to this, not did disco become a mainstream success due to
this movie, but its soundtrack was also a raging success. The Bee Gees Saturday
Night Fever quickly became the best selling movie soundtrack of all time, as well
as the highest selling pop album, until eclipsed in 1982 by Michael Jackson s
Thriller. After these two things, disco was everywhere in the late 70s. Everything
was disco (Everything?); Disco remixes, disco integration into other genres, and
even more movies. There was another group of people that despised this. These
people hated disco and all it stood for. Many protests to stop disco were held in
major cities around the country, to try and get disco out of the American culture.
The Day the Disco Died occurred on July 12, 1979. This was a campaign held by
the Chicago White Sox, and would be a disco demolition night; everything from
records to anything else disco would be destroyed. This was organised by Steve Dahl,
a former DJ at a radio station which became
The Benefits Of Artificial Intelligence
Many wonder if Artificial Intelligence (AI) could be beneficial to humanity. AI has
been around for only a few years. Voice Assistants such as Bixby and Siri help
people maneuver through screen selection, apps and much more on their cell
phones easier and faster. AI is slowly getting better, with things such as self driving
cars and robotic relations. There are two types of AI, weak AI and strong AI.
Weak AI are things we have today, such as those listed above (Siri and Bixby), and
the strong AI is what researchers are currently working towards. There are many
ways that AI could be useful in our lives, it can help us to move forward in
technology that we have yet to make many advances in, it can also make everyday
complications and annoyances much easier for humans. With the help of AI,
technology will be better and faster than ever because the AI will not make
repeated mistakes like people would. First, AI is created to learn as they go. AI is
able to make fast advances by being given set goals. In the article, Benefits and
Risks of AI, the author wrote, Machines can obviously have goals in the narrow
sense of exhibiting goal oriented behavior: the behavior of a heat seeking missile
is most economically explained as a goal to hit a target (Tegmark). Researchers are
able to set a goal for the AI to reach so it will not get off task, which will make the
research process faster without common distractions. This allows the AI to work
through the problems quickly
Tobacco Essay
Tobacco
Tobacco is one of the leading preventable causes of death in the United States.
Nicotine, which is an alkaloid derived from the tobacco plant, is a potent chemical
that has powerful effects on the human body, especially when administered rapidly or
at high doses. Prenatal exposure to nicotine is associated with adverse reproductive
outcomes, including altered neural structure and functioning, cognitive deficits, and
behavior problems in the offspring (9). At least 20% 30% of pregnant women are
estimated to smoke cigarettes, although smoking is associated with low birth weight,
prematurity and infant mortality. In the United States, smoking accounts annually for
estimated fetal deaths ranging from 19,000 to 141,000, for 1,900 ... Show more

A similar study by Lauren S. Wakschlag, on maternalsmoking during pregnancy and
the risk of conduct disorder in boys, revealed that mothers who smoked more than
half a pack of cigarettes daily during pregnancy were significantly more likely to
have offspring who met DSM III R diagnostic criteria for Conduct Disorder during
the preadolescent or adolescent years than women who did not smoke or smoked
only occasionally during pregnancy. These findings support previous work showing
that maternal smoking during pregnancy is associated with increased rates of
preschool and school age behavior problems and delinquency in the offspring.
The relationship between smoking and low birth weight, prematurity, and
miscarriage has been well established. The effects of nicotine are seen in every
trimester of pregnancy, from increased spontaneous abortions in the first trimester to
increased premature delivery rates and decreased birth weights in the final trimester.
In 1957, Simpson first noted in an observational study of 7,499 patients that the
incidence of premature delivery, as defined by a birth weight less than 2,500g, was
twice as great for the smoking mother as compared with the nonsmoking mother (5).
A similar study by Walsh concluded that the smoking mother is at two fold increased
risk for delivering a low birth weight infant than her nonsmoking
My Thoughts On Chapter 9
This essay will reflect my thoughts on chapter 9. In brief this chapter deals with
how the ears allow us to be able to hear and process sound. When I first think of
sound I think of the frequency. This makes me think of songs that I listen too in
order to determine it s a high frequency or a low frequency. I ll be able to determine
the amount of hertzthat are in songs on the radio. I do feel that it would be hard to
determine because most of that music is reordered, hearing people sing a cappella
would be easier to determine the amount of hertz present. I know what hertz are, but
I m still not sure how they are actually determined? Are they sounds just determined
by our brain if we have unimpaired hearing. How would someone like my brother
with a whole in his earbe able to determine frequency? When I think about pitch the
first things come to mind are instruments. This reminds me in middle school if you
wanted to a part of the band, you got to test each instrument. I always had a
fascinating with a flute, which had high a frequency and high pitch. Another
instrument was a trombone; this had a low frequency and low pitch. This helped me
understand the difference between pitches. I also think about how humans and
animals hear different frequencies. Someone my age in there 20 s would be able to
hear the door bell ring, while someone in there 70 s may not hear it. This measures
how over time our frequencies can. A dog on the other hand can hear very high
pitched
Social Bonding Theory
This paper is going to highlight the social bonding theory. Control theorist Travis
Hirsch i s believes the cause of delinquency is based on the idea that people have
innate desire to commit crime ( Griswold, and , Roberts, Wiatrowski 1981) .basically
no matter how much one prevent crime, someone is bound to commit crime.
According to social bond there are four factors that can determine rather an individual
is going to deviate from societal norm; Attachment, Commitment, Involvement, and
Belief (Grisworld et. al 1981). Example of the social bonds Attachment family,
commitment school councils and the goals to pursue higher education. Involvement
dance, afterschool programs, and camps the involvement in different activities to
keep busy. Belief Religiosity, active in church groups, attends church frequently
(Grisworld et. al 1981). Critiques The objective is to critique the short comings of
Social bonding theory. Also illustrate additional factor that explain why an individual
is likely to commit crime. Also highlight preventive measures why individual is less
likely to commit crime or violate the norms. The problem that lies with the social
bond theory that it does not apply to all races. The studies only focuses males
whereas should include analysis female as well (Heimer Matsueda 1987).because
males are not the only one that commits crime. This theory does not have preventive
measures to prevent crime from occurring. This theory does not highlight the

Introduction The paper in review is part of the Journal Managing Service Quality
which was published in 2010. At the time of publication the authors were

Evangelos Psomas was a Research Assistant and received a PhD in Total Quality

fulltime Professor (University of Ioannina, 2012) and Dimitrios Kafetzopoulos was a

With the research questions in scope the Concept Map in Figure 1 demonstrates
little evidence of literature review referring to past critical factors assessments. It
was discovered by reviewing the author s previous studies that 90% of the critical
factors are re used from Fotopoulos, et al. (2009, p. 900) HACCP4 research. Hence,
other researcher s findings on critical factors are not considered in this study.
It is not clear if 11.8 percent of non SMEs are exluded by Psomas, et al. (2010, p.
446), who define SMEs by the European Commission (2003) recommendation, but do
not consider annual turnover (p. 39) in their exlusion criteria.
With the limitation on quality managers the study results show continuous
improvement to be of major importance (Psomas, et al., 2010, p. 447) which is
biased by quality managers interests while other author s similar studies including
the whole population of companies indicate top management commitment as most
important (Quazi Padibjo, 1998, p. 494; Calisir, 2007, p. 584; Zeng, et al., 2007, p.
246; Al Najjar, 2011, p. 122).
Main concern of the research is the little variation of all critical factors ranging from
3.64 to 6.00 (lowest to highest mean) on the seven point scale and it appears that the
majority of factors are of high importance. Still Psomas, et al. (2010, p. 447) attempt
to group factors into differentiated importance

him off at a young age of 16. He had a very pessimistic attitude about his life, how
he worked all year long without a break, but this young man did not know what the
Lord was holding for him in the future. God used Dwight in multipleways. Dwight in
the end, though very ill, still did what the Lord was telling him to do.

the beginning stages he was having trouble keeping the people coming and

twenty four year old boy insulting them and the way they were living. The

telling people of the prayer meeting, the smaller and smaller it became. One day
when he arrived at the meeting, there was only one old lady that came to listen to
the words that Dwight had to say. The lady gave great advice to Dwight, Invite the
wrong ones. Wicked men. If they don t want to come, invite someone else. This
never occurred to Dwight. He did not have to invite the same people all the time, he
could invite someone else. Dwight decided to go out and find the right kind of
people to come to his meetings. He searched and witnessed, and within the next few

My Cultural Paper On Machu Picchu Peruvian Restaurant
One of the countries in South America is Peru, home to part of the Amazon rainforest
and also to Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu is an ancient Incan city that was set high in
the Andes Mountains. The civilization was renowned for its sophisticated dry stone
walls, and so is Machu Picchu Peruvian Restaurant. This restaurant has captured the
essence not only of the ancient civilization, but of the culture of Peruas well. Though
this is a restaurant, they teach their customers about Spanish culture, and they also
contributes to both their immediate community and Hispanic community. So in other
words, this restaurant isn t just a restaurant, but a Peruvian cultural experience. First
of all, the reason why I chose to do my Cultural Paper on Machu PicchuPeruvian
Restaurant is because to me (as well as the community, I m sure), this place isn t only
in existence to sell food, but to allow its customers to experience Peru and it s culture
as much as possible without going to the actual country. When you first drive past the
restaurant, the stone design of the outside draws your attention. This restaurant is
located in downtown Newburgh (one of the most dangerous cities in New York), so
its design automatically stands out from the poverty surrounding the area. Also, from
the moment I walked into the restaurant, it was like I stepped into a different world;
from the smells to the ambiance, this restaurant embodied Peru to the T . The dishes
on the menu were all authentic, Peruvian
The Combat Oriented Tasks Of The Tradoc Pt Manual
Once the analysis of the current APFT exercises have been completed the research
will move on to the combat oriented tasks described in the TRADOC PT Manual.
This leads us into stage two of the research. The tasks describe within the manual can
be found within chapter 13 of the manual. The TRADOC manual is also Army wide
guidance concerning what types of tasks Soldiers must be able to perform in combat
situations. The actions prescribed in the manual will be evaluated on the same
criteria as the currentAPFT format. The tasks specifically include: marching, running,
lifting from ground and overhead, lunching pushing and rotations. These actions will
again be broken down into the different body actions used in each movement and
associated with the type of muscle contractions used. The TRADOC Tasks will be
categorized and their characteristics identified on the following graph.
The third stage of this research will be conducted through electronic survey. By
conducting all surveys through electronic means the study will be able to read a
wider audience and a larger participation group in a more efficient way. By using the
military global email system email surveys can be sent according to personnel who
have served in the different theaters more expediently. The survey will be simple
and consist of asking service members from various theaters to choose a set of
combat tasks that are applicable to their combat experience. It will also ask soldiers
who have no deployed on a
Similarities Between Rome And Carthage
Carthage vs. Rome
Introduction
One constant that can be seen throughout history is the urge for more power and
wealth. This often leads conflicts among nations. Supremacy of one nation over
others, as well as a whole slew of other issues evolve and morph with each time
period. Some examples of this are Athens and Macedonia, the United Kingdom and
other countries during the imperialist era. The situation between Rome and Cartage
is no different. Despite the individual reasons of Rome and Carthage, there are two
underlying causes of conflict, control of trade and expansion. During the time of
Rome s rise, Carthage was the adversary that was the closest to Rome s equal.
Rise of Carthage Cartage s emergence and rise to power was extremely slower than
its fall and destruction. Carthage, originally being a Phoenician colony, inherited
most of its advantages and surfaced as the capital of commerce within the
Mediterranean, especially after the fall of Tyre (Mulligan, 2014). With this Carthage
dominated the Mediterranean Sea and by extension trade. Carthage s rise was aided
by wealthy Phoenician refugees, who fled there from Alexander the Great. After

There were several factors that brought the relations of between these two powers to
a head. One factor that can be attributed to the conflict was Carthage s want to expand
their empire into Sicily and eventually into Italy (Mulligan, 2014). Mulligan (2014)
sees this as spiking Rome s traditional fear of powerful neighbors. This might have
been an added circumstance that propelled Rome to the defense of smaller states
throughout its reason. Mulligan (2014) continues that Rome allying with its Carthage

Richard Rodriguez Real Work Essay Analysis

English 111
September 12th, 2012
Real Work by Richard Rodriguez is about a young man struggling with self
confidence. He seeks to build his self esteem by participating in real manual labor
over a summer job. When Rodriguez is offered a job working on a construction
site he doesn t hesitate to say yes. His father had always told him he could never
understand the hardships of Real work , and Rodriguez felt that completing this
summer job would make his father proud of him, and in many ways consider him
to be a Real man . Richard Rodriguez was raised in America, unlike his family. He
never really knew anything different. This made it very easy for his father to tell him

The father figure depicted in this story could be viewed in a few different ways. At
first I thought the authors father was kind of a stuck up, rude man, who was sour
about the advantages of living a normal life in American society. I felt that he had
made his son feel like he could never do what he had down. If a parental figure
makes you feel like that, there tends to be a reaction. It could be positive or
negative. In Rodriguez s case he took what his father said, and harnessed it into a
positive learning experience. When I thought about more in depth, it became clear
that Rodriguez s father wasn t putting his son down at all. He was simply explaining
to his son how different their worlds where. He was stressing that although his son
had more opportunity, and was presented with much greater potential to be excellent,
that the work he did growing up was much harder, and tough than most people
realize. His father was just making it known that in his working years he did not
have many options as to career choices. But on the other hand I can easily see why
the author felt that his father had challenged him. Much like I felt my father was
challenging me. Rodriguez felt like he needed to prove that he could perform the
same task that his fathers use to do to provide for their families. Working with you re
your hands, completing messy, strenuous, sometimes painful jobs was almost a part

Compare And Contrast Clarke And The Sniper
The one time I have felt the most sensitive is when I gotten called a name that hurt
my feelings more than I thought it would. The story shows that I m sensitive by
being called something that really hurt my feelings. The characters Clarke and The
Sniper are sensitive because of the reactions that they had throughout their lives.
Clarke from The 100 series shows that she is sensitive when it comes to her
parents. She wished she could share the experience with the two people who had
made her yearn to see earth. Clarke wouldn t have the chance, her parents were dead
(kass morgan 95). Clarke wishes that her parents were still alive to see the moment
she makes her dream come true, she wishes that they were here still to support her. It

something that wasn t supposed to be said by anyone, and he said it and which
that caused Clarke s parents their lives. Therefore Clarke is sensitive when it

that he is sensitive when it comes to him realizing that being a sniper maybe wasn
t the right thing. He revolted from the sight of the shattered mass of his dead
enemy. His teeth chattered, he began to gibber to himself, cursing the war, cursing
himself, cursing everybody ( O Flaherty 4). The sniper basically is having second
thoughts about what he does, he s sick of it and hates to kill and curses everything
cause it changed him. The Sniper looked at his enemy falling and he shuddered.
The lust of battle died in him. He became bitten by remorse ( O Flaherty 4). He didn
t wanna kill anymore. All of a sudden it just made him sick. The Sniper didn t wanna
kill people anymore, and anything and everything about the war was gone in
What Are The Advantages Of Snorkeling
Snorkeling is the ideal way to view some of the amazing marine life that surrounds
the Galapagos Islands. It can be learned in a few hours and even children can do it.
It opens up a wonderland of lifeforms that you would completely miss if you stay on
land.
Snorkeling in the Water around the Galapagos May Be the Highlight of Your Trip
In Their Natural Setting
Snorkeling is one way to see the marine life in its natural setting. Another way is
scuba diving. The main advantage of snorkeling is the freedom from complicated
gear and extended lessons. Unless you are traveling with a group that has packed
for diving, snorkeling is your best option. All you need is a mask, snorkel and fins.
You may want a wetsuit if you are diving on the western islands where the water is
cooler. Otherwise, it is not essential. There is special equipment for children to help
them stay in the right position.
If you visit the Galapagos on an expedition cruise, you will be provided with the
necessary snorkeling equipment and receive lessons. Your professional naturalist
guide will help you see and recognize the varied marine life that you will encounter.

The Pros And Cons Of Vaccines
Imagine living in the year 1950. The public pool is closed; movie theatres are shut
down; camps and schools deserted; water fountains are avoided. All of this done in
an attempt to prevent the contraction of polio a potentially deadly and debilitating
disease. Fortunately, you live in the year 2018 where polio, and other diseases, are
able to be prevented with the simplest of actions. Vaccinations. Vaccinations are key
in preventing many illnesses such as polio, measles, and whooping cough.
Additionally, widespread vaccinationcan help to prevent unvaccinated people from
contracting life threatening diseases. Unfortunately, according to statistics from The
Children s Hospital of Philadelphia, nearly 1.5 million children under the age of 5
die of vaccinepreventable diseases every year. Even though these illnesses are easily
prevented, some parents still refuse to vaccinate their children because of fear of
adverse effects. Parents should be required to have their children vaccinated unless a
medical exemption applies because vaccines prevent harmful diseases and spread
herd immunity. Vaccinations, also known as immunizations, have been proven to
prevent the spread of many harmful diseases. For example, the article Vaccine Debate
communicates that since the beginning of the twentieth century vaccines have
become more effective in preventing outbreaks of diseases. This shows that
potentially deadly diseases are not spreading as frequently because of vaccinations.

Britain s Policy Of Salutary Neglect
1. Britain s policy of salutary neglect prior to 1750 had dramatic effects on
American society, especially on the nature of its legislature, which over time
diverged from the ideals of England. In Jamestown, England s first permanent
American colony, the Virginia Company promised the settlers self government not
subject to whims of the ruler, but rather, to fair rules established by the first elected
legislature in America. This legislature, which met in the House of Burgress, was
loyal to the English monarchy and created a representative assembly, the roots of
democracy. Similarly, in the Carolinas, the proprietors promised that laws were to
be made by a representative assembly. Thirteen years after Jamestown was
established, the Pilgrims drafted the Mayflower Compact, which guaranteed a civil
government still loyal to the king. As time progressed and colonists in America
continued to receive full rights of an Englishman and even more freedom, by giving
settlers a taste of for self government, England s lax rule over Jamestown would
backfire against her future attempts to tighten her control on America in 1750. In
fact, the Charter of Liberties foreshadows what colonists soon expected of
government rule. Written in 1701, the Charter of Liberties established a
representative assembly of one house, limiting the authority of Pennsylvania s
proprietor. (This can be paralleled to creating a democracy to eliminate the power of
a dictator or a monarch...) Even lower counties in
Stanley Pinter s Film Character Analysis
Though the present is an outcome of past contemplations and actions, Pinter does
not reveal the past as he wants the audience to think about the various possible ways
in which past can influence the present. Furthermore by leaving the interpretations
open to the audience, Pinter tries to portray that historical archives as storehouses
of narratives of the past, cannot be fully relied upon, as these are narratives written
in accordance to the dictates of those in power and as such are biased in their
interpretations. As the play proceeds, Stanley, in a long monologue, tells Meg of a
concert, he once gave. The concert was a great success and Stanley gives an account
of it: STANLEY: (To himself.) I had a unique touch. Absolutely unique. They

The physical and mental torture meted out to Stanley leaves an indelible scar in
his mind and gives birth to his great fear against all forces that coalesce to form a
collective force (they) which is immensely powerful and at the same time
devastating. This paranoia is dormant till the time Stanley is in a comfortable,
secure place and surrounded by familiar, innocuous people like Pete, Meg and
Lulu. But the arrival of the mysterious Goldberg and McCann, in the boarding
house galvanizes the terror and panic in the subconscious mind and intensifies it to
the extent, that Stanley vents out his frustration by madly beating the toy drum
which he gets as a birthday present (though he denies it is his birthday) from Meg.
The savagery of Stanley s reaction on receiving the toy drum is also effected by
Stanley s despair at being treated like a child by Meg. A toy drum is usually gifted
to a child. Meg gifts Stanley a toy drum as he is a musician and also because she
feels the child in Stanley will like the gift. But what she fails to understand is that by
being a mother surrogate to Stanley, she has made Stanley dependent on her to an
extent that is disliked by Stanley himself. Stanley s disgust for the mother er Meg
and his attempt to free himself from her (abject s) clutches is thus reflected in his
uncontrolled and wild beating of the drum, gifted by

Reflection Of Job
Philosophically written by an anonymous author Job is a reflective book in the
Bible, focusing on common setbacks for Christian viewpoints. The author of Job
may be acknowledged through reading. The author specifically addresses
individuals with intimate faith in Yahweh (God). The author was also a well
traveled individual who could captivate on an abundance of knowledge and
experience. He knew the constellations (Job 9:9; 38:31 ESV), could discuss
meteorology (Job 38:22 38 ESV) or even describe a sophisticated mining operation
(Job 28:1 11 ESV). His effort of showcasing Job, is simply about God and man; it
was inscribed to individuals who battle with the righteousness of a sovereign God in
a world bursting with misery.
The book of Job discusses a blameless and upright man who feared God (Job 1:1
NKJV). Job was an astounding headman, who was protected in the center of family
and wealth. However, his faith and persistence were tried by Satan. Fortunately, Job
was victorious, with a remunerated faith. The author acknowledges that God never
forsakes the one amid suffering. Yet, all suffering is not inevitably due to the
individual sin of the one suffering. This was a way of displaying vindication from
God. Witch is contrary to the widespread concepts that have persevered from then
until now. The delinquent of suffering is timeless, whether national or individual.
Suffering allows people to obtain greater faith in God. Additionally, God requires his
saints a faith that

Lilacs To Me Are Spring Analysis
Lilacs, to me, are spring. A first person narrator takes the reader through the life of

The reason why Christie must go to Sweden is because of her mother Where my

The story was written years later, and therefore it also becomes clear to us, what the

Relationship Between Natural Environment And Human
Exchange
The relationship between the natural environment and human exchange is one that
has been an ongoing battle of overconsumption and a regulation on natural goods.
Human interaction during the Industrial Revolution spanning from the nineteenth
and twentieth century has several contrasting principles. In the nineteenth century, the
excuse of overconsumption was for industrial economic profit. Humans believed that
over using natural resource was acceptable due to the belief that natural resources
were God s gift to man, and God would replenish the natural goods. However, the
overuse of natural goods results in smog, pollution, and water contamination which
has various damaging health effects. In the 20th century, humans were more than
aware of the effects that over consumption produced, but neglected the environment
for their own social status and profit. Nevertheless, during the end of the 20th century,
scientific evidence led to widespread awareness of the effects occurring to the
environment, prompting people to make policies to change and protect the
environment. This caused humans to create a relationship with the government and
restrict overconsumption. Ultimately, the first Industrial Revolutionduring the 19th
century, the overuse of technology wasn t perceived as harmful to the environment.
However, in the second Industrial Revolution during the 20th century, over
consumption had external effects that were harmful to the environment, triggering
intrusion from the

Marcus Garvey Vs Dubois
The Common Difference s of Elitism Vs. Nationalism
The often fierce ideological exchanges between Marcus Garvey and W.E.B. Du Bois
are interesting, not as much because of the eloquence of their expression, as because
of the fact that although outwardly contradictory, these ideologies were often unified
at their foundation. This unity was not simply in terms of the broad and obvious
intent to better the conditions of black folk , it was in terms of the very details that
defined the trajectory and means of the advancement of blacks in America and all
over the world.
It is clear that the seeming ideological disunity between the Garvey and Du Bois
perspectives only masked the commonalities that underpinned each of their

He authored Black Folk Then and Now, to shed light on the often untold history of
Africans and the transatlantic slave trade and, in fact, died and was buried in
Ghana where he was living by the personal invitation of Kwame Nkrumah. Equally
impassioned by the cause for black rights in the international arena, Garvey s work
toward this end was reflected in the name and practice of his Universal Negro
Improvement Association and African Communities (Imperial) League . Like Du
Bois, Garvey spoke fervently on behalf of the interests of blacks both in the United
States and internationally. It was the express mission of this organization to bring
together the people of what Garvey called the African race . He too participated in
the Pan African Congresses and a cornerstone of his movement was pride in the
race s African heritage. This concept of the interconnectedness of blacks across the
globe, with African heritage as their anchor, was a unifying aspect of Du Bois and
Garvey ideologies. Here again, however, this fundamentally similar belief was
overshadowed by more superficial ideological differences. Although loyal to Africa,
Du Bois saw himself and blacks born in the United States as Americans, a contrast to
Garvey who rejected this concept, defining his identity and allegiance first and
foremost in terms of his blackness. Du Bois, on the one hand, regarded himself and
blacks born in the United

An Inside View Of Grigory Rasputin s Life
In this ambitious work, Fuhrmann endeavors to ascertain the existence of a class
of philosophers in Russian society. If philosophy, and not merely religion,
Fuhrmann examines the life of Rasputin and the vital role he played in the
downfall of Russia. Fuhrmann book gives an inside view of Grigory Rasputin s life
and how he took advantage of the Russian tradition of the wondering peasant holy
man, walking village to village and stating that he had a direct connection with God.
Researchers claimed that Rasputin exploited the last Romanov couple Nicholas and
Alexandra by using his mystical powers to enchant them into believe in him.

In many instances many people do not trust the tsar or tsarina judgment because of
the presence of Rasputin. Rasputin becomes more of a nuisance to the royal family
because he s very uneducated and makes poor choices. His St. Petersburg
apartment became a very busy office where he would take care of medical
problems and with his healing powers. He let payment be paid in money, pledges
of loyalty, or the most controversial kisses. This would have passed with no
questions if at that time Russia were not entering a period of crisis of war.
Nicholas was forced to grant the constitution and convene a parliament. Many
loved and admired the tsar he was remarkably charming and just gave a special
atmosphere to the people. Though during these times Nicholas s greatest problems
came from the moderate opposition. Liberals and moderate conservatives were
alarmed over defeats. Nicholas refused to share power with the Duma. As time
past in Russia tsar Nicholas and Alexandra became very unpopular with the people
of Russia. By the early 1916 Alexandra was the most hated woman in Russia. Much
popular opinion held that she was the leader of the dark forces that was driving the
Russian nation to destruction. By as early as 1915 the name Grigory Rasputin was

relationship with the royal family took on a poignant character in the final months.

murdered by Felix Yusupov which not many historians understand why. Many
believed that he feared that Rasputin was undermining Nicholas s government and

Examples Of Tension In 12 Angry Men
The small setting of the room, few props and the heat, along with camera levels,
builds tension and releases it throughout 12 Angry Men. Towards the beginning
tension is put in to play as the setting of film is in a small, un airconditioned room on
a hot summer day. Throughout the film the jurors comment on the weather which
effects certain juror s moods. Juror number 7 says This is the hottest day of the year.
You d think they d at least air condition the place. The heat irritates and agitates most
of the jurors, resulting in clashes of moods, further adding to the tension. Throughout
the film the camera level goes from above eye level to eye level, increasing the
tension by showcasing more reactions and emotions during intense scenes.
The mise en scГЁne when we first see the jury room creates a perfect setting for
tension to build. In the room, we see very few props, which helps make the room
seem small. The room has a table with 12 chairs, ashtrays on the table, a fan on the
wall, 2 overhead key lights, a few books, papers and another small table. The jurors
also can t leave until they either all decide to send an 18 year old to the electric
chair, or free. The men are all wearing jackets, even though the weather is hot and the
heat makes them sweaty and agitated. Many of the men are smoking, which might
show they are agitated or anxious. Early on in this room, tension starts to rise as juror
number eight is the only one who votes not guilty. This all happens in the

Benedict Arnold Essay
Benedict Arnold was born in Norwich, Connecticut. Arnold received his schooling
at Canterbury. While away at school, a few of Arnold s siblings passed away from
Yellow Fever. Arnold was a troublesome kid that would try just about anything. As a
14 year old boy, he ran away from home to fight in the French and Indian War. Later,
Benedict Arnold left and returned home through the wilderness alone to work with
his cousins. The army had excused him without penalty because of his young age. In
1762, when Benedict was just twenty one years old, he went to New Haven,
Connecticut where he managed a book and drug store and carried on trade with the
West Indies. (B Arnold) In 1767, he married Margaret Mansfield, a daughter of a
sheriff of New... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Lake Champlain) The Massachusetts Committee of Safety became suspicious of
Arnold s behavior and conduct. Benedict was fed up so he resigned his commission
at Crown Point, New York. Arnold tried to persuade the General of New York into
letting him invade Quebec. Arnold understood that he would later face consequences
with the Massachusetts Committee because of his actions, but he prepared himself.
Benedict came up with a petition and accumulated over 500 signatures from
Northern New Yorkers. (M. Flynn) The petition showed the American s appreciation
of his accomplishments and good deeds. Arnold s wife had been sick with an illness
for quite some time. The news soon made it to him that Margaret had passed away.
Arnold proceeded back to New Haven to bury his wife and go through her belongings.
Arnold met with General Washington once again and informed him of his plan to
invade Quebec City for the second time. Arnold would go up the Kennebec River into
northwest Maine and would then travel through the woods, while Schuyler would
head directly north. (M. Flynn) After meeting with the Massachusetts Committee of
Safety, Arnold was dismissed of any errors. While patiently waiting for Schuyler s
decision, Washington ordered Arnold to stay on campus until the word came through.
Colonel Arnold and General Washington validated sixteen thousand men on
September 2, 1775 before heading off to Canada.
Meteorology Research Paper
Explain the difference between climate, weather, and meteorology.
It is astonishing how many calculations and work goes into determining the weather
each day. Meteorologists read this information and broadcast it to households every
night. The weather each day helps determine a region s climate, but the climate does
not determine the weather every day. Meteorology is one of the studies of the
atmosphere, and the daily weather helps determine the climate. These are all
common terms to most people, but each term carries more meaning than most intend
to realize. A simple definition of weather is that it is the condition of the atmosphere
at a particular place over a short period of time. This can also be read as the
atmosphere around you each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Air masses tend to collide in regions throughout the world. Most commonly, air
masses collide over the Midwest as air from the gulf collides with air from the
west coast and the north. Air masses colliding create fronts, and fronts are part of
the recipe for thunderstorms. Wind shear is one of the main ingredients for storms
and this can help determine the severity of a storm. There are 4 main types of
thunderstorms, and their classification and severity are determined by many
factors. The first type is a single cell thunderstorm which is considered an ordinary
storm as well since it does not often reach severe limits. These normally last 20 30
minutes, and because of this time they rarely reach severe nature. Wind shear and
updraft help determine the life of a storm, and the longer a storm lasts the more
severe it becomes as it has time to grow larger. A storm will also last as long as the
updraft lasts. The more drastic the updraft the more severe the storm is over time and
the updraft takes longer to dissipate from the falling
The Color In The Great Gatsby
YELLOW Wilson s Garage: The color yellow is considered to be the unauthentic
version of gold. As previously stated, gold is a color of richness and value which is
why we it is clearly visible in the Gatsby household. Yellow on the other hand, is
quite inferior when compared to the standards of gold. In contrast to Jordan, the
golden girl, her admirers are merely, two girls in twin yellowdresses. (Fitzgerald.47)
They are so unimportant that they aren t even called by their names. They are
simply labeled as, one of the girls in yellow, (Fitzgerald.47) even though one, [plays]
the piano, and the other is, from a famous chorus. (Fitzgerald.56) Along these same
lines, Wilson s garage is thought of as lesser than East or West Egg; since... Show

While many would connect the color grey with George, the irrelevant individual
who never lived up to the standards of the wealthy, we can also make this
connection with Gatsby, who happens to be one of the wealthiest. Even Gatsby
had, foul dust [floating] in the wake of his dreams, (Fitzgerald.4) revealing that
although he might seem content on the outside, he is melancholy and gloomy on
the inside. Nevertheless, George Wilson can be best identified as grey, boring and
insignificant. When Nick first encounters George, a white ashen dust veiled his
dark suit and his pale hair as it veiled everything in the vicinity, (Fitzgerald.29)
showing just how distressed George truly was. He was surrounded by wealthy
people living in the luscious lands of West and East Egg, yet he was stuck in the
middle, in a wasteland covered in ash and soot known as The Valley of Ashes. The
Valley of Ashes represents the forgotten, the, men who move dimly and [are]
already crumbling through the powdery air. (Fitzgerald.26) Every single piece of
grey, the grey cars...the ash grey men...the grey land, (Fitzgerald.26) brought
hopelessness and anguish upon those who passed The Valley of Ashes. The Valley
stands for pain and destruction as it was the place of death of Myrtle as she, knelt
in the road and mingled her thick, dark blood with the dust. (Fitzgerald.147) There
isn t a slim chance of happiness in The Valley of Ashes, and there never will be
Unwind Quotes
Unwind In the novel Unwind by Neal Shusterman, Lev changed over time because
in the beginning he is easy going and by the end, he is willing and caring. Lev has
many different feelings and thoughts throughout the book. At some times, Lev
doesn t think about what he is doing and takes risks. All of the characters change,
but Lev changes more. He undergoes a major conformation. In the beginning, Lev
was happy about going to the camp and just went along with what happened. On
page 34 he says This is what I was born for. It s what I lived for. I am chosen. I am
blessed. And I am happy.ВЁ This illustrates that he doesn t want to be unwound. He
just goes along with what s happening. In

  • 1. Essay On Memory Crafting an essay on the intricate subject of memory is undoubtedly a challenging endeavor. Delving into the complexities of this topic requires a thoughtful exploration of psychological, neurological, and even philosophical dimensions. The process involves not only synthesizing existing knowledge but also grappling with the elusive nature of memory itself. Memory is a multifaceted phenomenon, encompassing various cognitive processes that interplay with emotions, perceptions, and experiences. Unraveling the mechanisms behind memory formation, retention, and retrieval demands a nuanced understanding of both the biological underpinnings and the psychological factors at play. The challenge lies in navigating the vast body of research and theories, distilling key concepts, and presenting them in a coherent and engaging manner. • 3. If Shakespeare Can Do It If Shakespeare Can Do It Because my wife has an English degree, she always defends her made up words and grammar rules by simply stating, Shakespeare did it, I can too. Now, I don t always agree with her just because I have an English degree attitude, but we do agree on one small thing: The written English language needs a singular gender neutral pronounthat replaces the clunky alternatives English speakers have now. English is a relatively young language compared to most others still around today. Currently, we are taught that the use of singular theyis incorrect, and instead we should use either he, him or her, or s/he, when referring to someone whose gender is unclear. Others say English writers should move toward a singular pronounto use with a singular antecedent. How perfect is it that English speakers already use this particular pronoun? Singular they. Think about it. Typically, when people speak, they do not use his or her or s/he. People use they when referring to one person of an undetermined gender. For example, Someone left their coat here, we should let them know. That makes perfect sense to us. We know that them in this sentence refers to the singular antecedent someone. Language evolves alongside it s society, because of this, you don t see many English speakers still using thou to refer to one person. As many people know, singular thou was a more formal and polite way of saying you . Sometime in the 18th century, the use of

  • 5. Essay The Effect of pH on the Digestion of Casein by Trypsin The Effect of pH on the Digestion of Casein by Trypsin When planning the experiment, the equipment and method had to be well thought out in order for the experiment to be accurate and efficient. Firstly, I have chose to use a 1% trypsin concentration then altered it to 0.8%, because a higher concentration means more trypsin molecules in the solution and therefore more enzyme substrate complexes are likely to occur with the casein in the milk, causing digestion of the casein to be faster. However, I don t wantowever digestion to occur too quickly as I will not be able to analyse the effect of PH. Therefore, I chose a lower concentration which would allow me to test the percentage transmission at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, PH is the independent variable I am testing; therefore, its constancy is important. Variables in the experiment will need to be controlled and the following need to be kept constant * Concentration of trypsin * Amounts of reagents * Enzyme to substrate ratio * Temperature * Method of measuring solutions I will use equal amounts of trypsin, milk, PH, buffer and distilled water in all the experiments and will use the same measuring equipment to ensure fair representation of the effect of different PH on digestion. If variables aren t adequately controlled then the data collected would be erroneous and would not represent the true effects of PH on digestion as altering variables could lead to changes in rate of reaction. As we know the collision theory states that the more collisions in a system, the more likely the molecules will react and therefore the faster the reaction. Rates of reaction can be affected by variables such as concentration, as more molecules of the substance are present therefore increasing the chance of a collision, another is temperature. All enzymes have an optimum temperature at which they work the fastest, this is because more kinetic energy is available and particles move faster resulting in more collisions and hence more

Although he notes that his accounts may not be precisely accurate, his depictions of public discussion yield particular insight into the functioning of ancient democracy. The Debate at Syracuse is a unique example of these forum debates because its content is both particular to the potential Athenian invasion of Syracuse and concerned with the more abstract ideological debate over the merits of democracy. However, in this debate, the democratic leader Athenagoras, in his disagreement with Hermocrates, espouses a philosophy dissonant with our contemporary understanding of democracy, indicating that the Greek democratic ideals are fundamentally distinct from modern interpretations. Hermocrates s advocacy for increased outward preparation for an Athenian invasion is well reasoned, concrete, and respectful, traits closely aligned with current democratic ideals. Hermocrates opens with a testimony of his patriotism despite his own unpopularity, saying I shall not remain quiet when my city is in danger (Thucydides 6.33), casting his viewpoint as dissenting at least from popular opinion a right now held up as an essential pillar of democratic society. Argumentative Essay About Skiers Alex Pletta Pennington Period 4 12/2/14 Skier As the weather gets colder and snow begins to blanket the ground, most people start complaining about frigid temperatures and back breaking shoveling. However, there is a group of people who thrive during these frozen winter months. They are known as skiers. The dictionary definition of downhill , or alpine, skiing is simply the sport or recreation of sliding down snow covered hills on skis with fixed heel bindings. Does that do skiers justice? As a dedicated skier, I think that definition is insulting. There is so much more to skiing than just standing on some pieces of metal and plastic. Some people think of skiers as bums who like taking risks and sleeping out of their car in gas station parking lots. Just as she said in her short story, which also happens to be one of my favorite works of hers, My Boyfriend, John Mayer , I noticed with some interest how a person who is down seems much improved when faced with someone who is more down than they are. It s all a matter of degrees (Nye, 175). It has been so long since a poem, or a set of poems, has resonated so deeply within my person. Of course from time to time I come across one that will make me reminisce or truly think deeper than what is due the next class period, but in the blaring monotony of an unsatisfying daily routine shoved me low enough I hadn t stopped for a moment to see others who were even farther down than I was. In an attempt to find who we are and what we want to do in life, I feel like we often abandon who we are at the given moment in attempt to capture whatever farfetched idea pops into our head or on our Facebook timeline that inspires us for a brief moment that we need more. More what? Entertainment? Adventure? In all reality we don t need anything. If we take a moment to stop, look around us and take it all in, we are blessed beyond measure. Artists such as the Bee Gees, Donna Summer, Michael Jackson and the Village People were all successful disco musicians that changed music for the better. Each one of those artists, and many more had their albums played in clubs on the weekend, and everyone would dance to them. A lot of people did not like this music however. Specifically, there was two groups that opposed disco music after Saturday Night Fever. One of these groups were the original members of the underground disco scene. A quote from a review of Saturday Night Fever by disco historian Dennis Brumm states That movie was about a group of straight, homophobic, racist, Italian American twentysomethings in New York who went dancing wearing odd looking clothes and probably too much aftershave lotion. They looked nothing much like the people I saw or knew in gay discos. In addition to this, not did disco become a mainstream success due to this movie, but its soundtrack was also a raging success. The Bee Gees Saturday Night Fever quickly became the best selling movie soundtrack of all time, as well as the highest selling pop album, until eclipsed in 1982 by Michael Jackson s Thriller. After these two things, disco was everywhere in the late 70s. Everything was disco (Everything?); Disco remixes, disco integration into other genres, and even more movies. There was another group of people that despised this. These people hated disco and all it stood for. Many protests to stop disco were held in major cities around the country, to try and get disco out of the American culture. The Day the Disco Died occurred on July 12, 1979. This was a campaign held by the Chicago White Sox, and would be a disco demolition night; everything from records to anything else disco would be destroyed. AI is slowly getting better, with things such as self driving cars and robotic relations. There are two types of AI, weak AI and strong AI. Weak AI are things we have today, such as those listed above (Siri and Bixby), and the strong AI is what researchers are currently working towards. There are many ways that AI could be useful in our lives, it can help us to move forward in technology that we have yet to make many advances in, it can also make everyday complications and annoyances much easier for humans. With the help of AI, technology will be better and faster than ever because the AI will not make repeated mistakes like people would. First, AI is created to learn as they go. Nicotine, which is an alkaloid derived from the tobacco plant, is a potent chemical that has powerful effects on the human body, especially when administered rapidly or at high doses. Prenatal exposure to nicotine is associated with adverse reproductive outcomes, including altered neural structure and functioning, cognitive deficits, and behavior problems in the offspring (9). At least 20% 30% of pregnant women are estimated to smoke cigarettes, although smoking is associated with low birth weight, prematurity and infant mortality. In the United States, smoking accounts annually for estimated fetal deaths ranging from 19,000 to 141,000, for 1,900 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A similar study by Lauren S. Wakschlag, on maternalsmoking during pregnancy and the risk of conduct disorder in boys, revealed that mothers who smoked more than half a pack of cigarettes daily during pregnancy were significantly more likely to have offspring who met DSM III R diagnostic criteria for Conduct Disorder during the preadolescent or adolescent years than women who did not smoke or smoked only occasionally during pregnancy. These findings support previous work showing that maternal smoking during pregnancy is associated with increased rates of preschool and school age behavior problems and delinquency in the offspring. The relationship between smoking and low birth weight, prematurity, and miscarriage has been well established. The effects of nicotine are seen in every trimester of pregnancy, from increased spontaneous abortions in the first trimester to increased premature delivery rates and decreased birth weights in the final trimester. In 1957, Simpson first noted in an observational study of 7,499 patients that the incidence of premature delivery, as defined by a birth weight less than 2,500g, was twice as great for the smoking mother as compared with the nonsmoking mother (5). A similar study by Walsh concluded that the smoking mother is at two fold increased risk for delivering a low birth weight infant than her nonsmoking
  • 14. My Thoughts On Chapter 9 This essay will reflect my thoughts on chapter 9. In brief this chapter deals with how the ears allow us to be able to hear and process sound. When I first think of sound I think of the frequency. This makes me think of songs that I listen too in order to determine it s a high frequency or a low frequency. I ll be able to determine the amount of hertzthat are in songs on the radio. I do feel that it would be hard to determine because most of that music is reordered, hearing people sing a cappella would be easier to determine the amount of hertz present. I know what hertz are, but I m still not sure how they are actually determined? Are they sounds just determined by our brain if we have unimpaired hearing. How would someone like my brother with a whole in his earbe able to determine frequency? When I think about pitch the first things come to mind are instruments. This reminds me in middle school if you wanted to a part of the band, you got to test each instrument. I always had a fascinating with a flute, which had high a frequency and high pitch. Another instrument was a trombone; this had a low frequency and low pitch. This helped me understand the difference between pitches. I also think about how humans and animals hear different frequencies. Someone my age in there 20 s would be able to hear the door bell ring, while someone in there 70 s may not hear it. This measures how over time our frequencies can. A dog on the other hand can hear very high pitched

Control theorist Travis Hirsch i s believes the cause of delinquency is based on the idea that people have innate desire to commit crime ( Griswold, and , Roberts, Wiatrowski 1981) .basically no matter how much one prevent crime, someone is bound to commit crime. According to social bond there are four factors that can determine rather an individual is going to deviate from societal norm; Attachment, Commitment, Involvement, and Belief (Grisworld et. al 1981). Involvement dance, afterschool programs, and camps the involvement in different activities to keep busy. Hence, other researcher s findings on critical factors are not considered in this study. It is not clear if 11.8 percent of non SMEs are exluded by Psomas, et al. This often leads conflicts among nations. Supremacy of one nation over others, as well as a whole slew of other issues evolve and morph with each time period. Some examples of this are Athens and Macedonia, the United Kingdom and other countries during the imperialist era. The situation between Rome and Cartage is no different. Despite the individual reasons of Rome and Carthage, there are two underlying causes of conflict, control of trade and expansion. During the time of Rome s rise, Carthage was the adversary that was the closest to Rome s equal. Rise of Carthage Cartage s emergence and rise to power was extremely slower than its fall and destruction. Carthage, originally being a Phoenician colony, inherited most of its advantages and surfaced as the capital of commerce within the Mediterranean, especially after the fall of Tyre (Mulligan, 2014). • 24. The Pros And Cons Of Vaccines Imagine living in the year 1950. The public pool is closed; movie theatres are shut down; camps and schools deserted; water fountains are avoided. All of this done in an attempt to prevent the contraction of polio a potentially deadly and debilitating disease. Fortunately, you live in the year 2018 where polio, and other diseases, are able to be prevented with the simplest of actions. Vaccinations. Vaccinations are key in preventing many illnesses such as polio, measles, and whooping cough. Additionally, widespread vaccinationcan help to prevent unvaccinated people from contracting life threatening diseases. Unfortunately, according to statistics from The Children s Hospital of Philadelphia, nearly 1.5 million children under the age of 5 die of vaccinepreventable diseases every year. Even though these illnesses are easily prevented, some parents still refuse to vaccinate their children because of fear of adverse effects. Parents should be required to have their children vaccinated unless a medical exemption applies because vaccines prevent harmful diseases and spread herd immunity. Vaccinations, also known as immunizations, have been proven to prevent the spread of many harmful diseases. For example, the article Vaccine Debate communicates that since the beginning of the twentieth century vaccines have become more effective in preventing outbreaks of diseases. This shows that potentially deadly diseases are not spreading as frequently because of vaccinations.

  • 27. Britain s Policy Of Salutary Neglect 1. Britain s policy of salutary neglect prior to 1750 had dramatic effects on American society, especially on the nature of its legislature, which over time diverged from the ideals of England. In Jamestown, England s first permanent American colony, the Virginia Company promised the settlers self government not subject to whims of the ruler, but rather, to fair rules established by the first elected legislature in America. This legislature, which met in the House of Burgress, was loyal to the English monarchy and created a representative assembly, the roots of democracy. Similarly, in the Carolinas, the proprietors promised that laws were to be made by a representative assembly. Thirteen years after Jamestown was established, the Pilgrims drafted the Mayflower Compact, which guaranteed a civil government still loyal to the king. As time progressed and colonists in America continued to receive full rights of an Englishman and even more freedom, by giving settlers a taste of for self government, England s lax rule over Jamestown would backfire against her future attempts to tighten her control on America in 1750. In fact, the Charter of Liberties foreshadows what colonists soon expected of government rule. Written in 1701, the Charter of Liberties established a representative assembly of one house, limiting the authority of Pennsylvania s proprietor. (This can be paralleled to creating a democracy to eliminate the power of a dictator or a monarch...) Even lower counties in

The physical and mental torture meted out to Stanley leaves an indelible scar in his mind and gives birth to his great fear against all forces that coalesce to form a collective force (they) which is immensely powerful and at the same time devastating. This paranoia is dormant till the time Stanley is in a comfortable, secure place and surrounded by familiar, innocuous people like Pete, Meg and Lulu. But the arrival of the mysterious Goldberg and McCann, in the boarding house galvanizes the terror and panic in the subconscious mind and intensifies it to the extent, that Stanley vents out his frustration by madly beating the toy drum which he gets as a birthday present (though he denies it is his birthday) from Meg. The savagery of Stanley s reaction on receiving the toy drum is also effected by Stanley s despair at being treated like a child by Meg. A toy drum is usually gifted to a child. Meg gifts Stanley a toy drum as he is a musician and also because she feels the child in Stanley will like the gift. But what she fails to understand is that by being a mother surrogate to Stanley, she has made Stanley dependent on her to an extent that is disliked by Stanley himself. Stanley s disgust for the mother er Meg and his attempt to free himself from her (abject s) clutches is thus reflected in his uncontrolled and wild beating of the drum, gifted by

  • 34. Relationship Between Natural Environment And Human Exchange The relationship between the natural environment and human exchange is one that has been an ongoing battle of overconsumption and a regulation on natural goods. Human interaction during the Industrial Revolution spanning from the nineteenth and twentieth century has several contrasting principles. In the nineteenth century, the excuse of overconsumption was for industrial economic profit. Humans believed that over using natural resource was acceptable due to the belief that natural resources were God s gift to man, and God would replenish the natural goods. However, the overuse of natural goods results in smog, pollution, and water contamination which has various damaging health effects. In the 20th century, humans were more than aware of the effects that over consumption produced, but neglected the environment for their own social status and profit. Nevertheless, during the end of the 20th century, scientific evidence led to widespread awareness of the effects occurring to the environment, prompting people to make policies to change and protect the environment. This caused humans to create a relationship with the government and restrict overconsumption. This unity was not simply in terms of the broad and obvious intent to better the conditions of black folk , it was in terms of the very details that defined the trajectory and means of the advancement of blacks in America and all over the world. Like Du Bois, Garvey spoke fervently on behalf of the interests of blacks both in the United States and internationally. It was the express mission of this organization to bring together the people of what Garvey called the African race . He too participated in the Pan African Congresses and a cornerstone of his movement was pride in the race s African heritage. This concept of the interconnectedness of blacks across the globe, with African heritage as their anchor, was a unifying aspect of Du Bois and Garvey ideologies. Here again, however, this fundamentally similar belief was overshadowed by more superficial ideological differences.
