CASE STUDY Wal Mart Valuing Wal Mart Stock Introduction: Wal Mart was founded by Sam
Walton in 1962 and was based in Bentonville, Arkansas. Wal Mart in the successive years has grown
to be the world s largest retailer and has more than 4000 stores worldwide. Wal Mart employs 1.7
million workers worldwide and boasts of 138 million customers every week. Rachael Martin was an
investment advisor and was tasked to valuate the Wal Mart stock with the help of three widely
accepted models i.e. dividend discount model, the capital asset pricing model and the price / earnings
multiples. Question 1: Assess the financial health of Wal Mart based on the analysis of the company s
financial statements. Response: The financial health of Wal Mart ... Show more content on

* Increase market share: The firm should acquire smaller retailers to increase the overall market share
and increase their economies of scale. * Benefits card: The firm should offer its customers a benefit
card that would enable them to earn points on their purchases. * Restaurant diversification: Open a
chain of restaurants across the globe. The revenues generated from the same will add to the overall
profits of the firm. | Threats * Competition: Increase in competition from other retailers thus squeezing
profit margins. * Opposition from local and political parties: Local and political parties usually have
problems with Wal Mart opening stores in their areas as it impacts the small local stores negatively. *
Food amp; Apparel: Slow growth Sector: Two of Wal Mart s main product line, apparel and food are
slow growth sectors. | Key competitive situation: Wal Mart had various competitors in 2005 and were
market leaders at that point in time in the United States. This is primarily due to Wal Marts wide /
diverse product offerings and low cost of their products. This enabled them to stay a step ahead of
their competitors. Economic conditions: The economy was conducive for doing business in 2005,
2006 and Wal Mart was enjoying a large market share. The consumer spending power was high and
the willingness to get products at a lower price drove consumers to the Wal Mart stores. Question 3:

Essay on Communication Barrier between Science and the...
The world is a large place filled with many diverse cultures. Within these different cultures, unique
languages and ways of healing have risen. Due to overpopulation and the constant need for new
technology, these cultures have come together to create a better way of life. The problem we face
today is not finding the sources of medication, but the communication barrier between science and the
community.
Community Health Worker Programmes During the late Apartheid era in South Africa:

2010:1114).
Ginneken et al. (2010:1115) explains that CHWs were located in health clinics full time and were no
longer flexible community based workers. Their responsibility to the community changed for the
worse. Many CHWs started resenting unpaid requests from fellow villagers. The government now has
this huge thing, they ve got this small business programme, the pay roll. And the village health
workers, if the pay doesn t come out, they toy toy , they don t go to work (Ginneken et al. 2010:1115).
Introducing this stipend caused CHWs to reject volunteer work.
A CHW Framework has been established by South Africa to guide the development of a national
CHW programme. This Framework has failed to recognize diversity, needs and flexibility, and this has
cause to say the aim is invalid. The current potential professionalisation of CHWs makes the ideal
bridging gap between the community and the health system more distant. Once the diversity, needs of
people, and the flexibility within the CHW programme s are recognised, the gap between the
community and the health system will be inexistent (Ginneken et al. 2010:1116).

Healthcare Reform And Health Care Reform
As evidenced by the constant battle over health care reform, healthcare in the United States has
become a growing problem that must be addressed. While the main controversy seems to be the
politics of healthcare reform and whether the government should have total control, the one thing that
I believe should be the focus, is the quality of care that is embedded in the patient doctor relationship.
It s quite troublesome when large health insurance companies are swaying politicians to vote for less
health care regulation and higher premiums rather than focusing on the quality of care and the
importance of the patient doctor relationship, which has become overshadowed. That is why I believe
it is important to look at and consider how health care reform such as the PPACA and policies
implemented by private insurance companies have affected the doctor patient relationship and thereby
influenced the quality of medical care. One of the many reasons that I find this an interesting and
important topic is because I aspire to work in the medical field and the interaction between patients
and doctors is important for me to consider and determine how it has changed, whether it be for better
or worse, throughout the years as a result of added regulations and new reforms.
A pivotal aspect of receiving quality medical care is being able to communicate your health concerns
and have confidence and trust in your doctor, which is essentially the doctor patient relationship. Yet,

Summer Reading Assignment Analysis
AP 3 Summer Reading Assignment
Students in AP Language and Composition (AP3) are required to arrive to the first day of school
having completed the Summer Reading Assignment. Students are to read Nickel and Dimed by
Barbara Ehrenreich and the essays listed below. Then, complete the corresponding assignment
(explained below). The assignment is to be turned in the first day of the 2015 2016 school year
(August 29th, 2015). According to the College Board, The aim of [the AP Language and Composition
course] is to help students develop the ability to read critically and evaluate sources so that they can
write from and in response to those sources. Students should learn to interrogate a text, not only to
discern what it is saying but also to understand how and why it proposes what it does. Students are
strongly encouraged to take notes on their reading while they are reading (active reading), and read the
text more than once. It is highly suggested that students purchase the novel to allow direct annotation
in the book (for tips on annotating, click HERE and HERE). Students who are unable to gain access to
the book via the library, online, through other means, must contact Mrs. Wright, Mr. Ziebarth, or Ms.

The Importance Of Guidance Counsellors
Counselling is a professional relationship that empowers diverse individuals, families and groups to
accomplish mental health, wellness, education and career goals (Spurgeon, 2012). Schools have been
identified as one of the main settings for the promotion of well being and mental health in children
and young people (Department for Education and Employment, 2001; DCSF, 2008b, as cited in
Harris, 2009). Counselling in an educational context establishes career and college planning,
interpersonal concerns, family matters, substance use, and personal identity issues, dominating student
s awareness, with the counselling climate providing an appropriate environment to address these
issues (Cormier Hackney, 2012). Due to the increasing needs of counselling within schools, School
Guidance Counsellors are a critical commodity for young people in today s society.
For new Guidance Counsellors, there is a broad range of concepts that need to be established and
developed. One key concept is counsellor identity. There are many facets that can inform a counsellor
s professional identity and these factors are paramount in the continuance of development and
advancement in the helping profession. Different factors such as the value held by the individual
within the profession, historical factors influencing the profession, theoretical orientation,
differentiating features separating the profession from other health professions, focus of research
efforts and scope of professional activities

Jump Shot In Basketball
Basketball is one of my favorite sports, and is one of the most watched and played sports all around
the world. In basketball a jump shot makes it easier to score the basketball faster. Jump shots can be a
deadly weapon against your opponents, because it comes down to something they cannot stop. An
incorrect jump shot will have more miss shots than made shots, but a correct jump shot will have more
made shots than miss shots. Everyone wants a correct jump shot, but sadly a correct jump shot isn t
given to anyone, everyone has to put in hard work and go through the basic fundamentals to develop a
very good jump shot.
The first step to a correct jump shot is study proper positioning on the body when the jump shot is
being shot. Take notes and see if the feet, hands, arms, and body is positioned the correct way.
Next get a basketball and go to a basketball court or basketball gym and prepare to change the jump
shot if it the jump shot was incorrect.
Then position the feet in a proper position before shooting. Move the feet no more than shoulder width
apart. Take the feet and position them in a comfortable position that has a good balance. Get the
balance of the feet that feels comfortable for shooting, and then point the feet in the direction of the
basketball goal. Lift them off the ground, and make sure they are never flat footed when the ball is
caught at any direction. Develop the feet into a comfortable stance, and never change the stance that is
created. Lined the feet

Cultural Meaning
CULTURAL MEANING
The meaning humans give to actions, concepts and behaviours is dependent on the cultural milieu and
is conditioned to a great extent by the underlying meaning systems, values and frames of meaning
he/she inherites from the society in general. Socialization plays a direct role in that process.
Education, effects of peers and the intellectual atmosphere all contribute to what is called cultural
meaning or systems of meaning. Cultural meaning conditions our perception and determines the way
we process external perceptions. In this sense, what Gregory Bateson calls an ecology of mind is at
work here. The mind acts in an ecology of preceding concepts, comments and semantic networks
operating in a particular field and in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The term Indian giver is one such example. A network of meanings developed through centuries of
experience emerges as cultural meaning. It becomes a culture s core over time and forms the basis also
of other attitudes. Western culture makes one think there are indeed too many bananas, whereas in
New Guinea there can not be too many bananas at all.
Another cultural phenomenon seen through the different lenses of various cultures is leadership.
Leadership is also loaded with cultural meanings and values. In general, eastern cultures are said to
put much emphasis on social harmony and collective action. Respect to elders, family ties are given
importance in these cultures. Leaders in these cultures are expected to be humble, caring and
considerate thinking about the well being of their followers. In this sense, they are seen as somewhat
paternalistic figures. They are required to show mercy and understanding towards inferiors, to care for
the problems of those they lead. Whereas, in western culture a competitive society is preferred and
leaders are thought to be assertive, highly competitive and efficient decision makers. Humane
considerations do not seem to play great role in this scheme. Efficiency and beneficial results matter
more than paternalistic protection of subordinates. So, one who is accepted in the West as a good
leader may be perceived as a ruthless go getter obsessed with his egotistic views in the East. Cultural
meaning acquired through

Alice In Wonderland Comparison
I have decided to choose the book Alice s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carrol. As a graded
version, I ve had the book from Oxford University Press, stage 2 which is 700 words. The CD version
was also available in the graded book and was retold by Jennifer Bassett. The first difference between
the two versions was the number of chapters, the original had 12 chapters whereas the graded one only
6.
After the very first chapter of the graded version, I did not find anything important missing. The
language was, of course, more simple, some of the sentences were left out, but everything important
was kept. In the second chapter, there was no conversation between Alice swimming in the pool of
tears and the animals, only two sentences were retained. The conversation continued to the third
chapter. After getting to a shore from the pool, Alice was spending time with the mouse, a duck, a lory
and an eaglet. The mouse was talking about William the Conqueror, Alice was still interrupting her,
then they were reciting a poem. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the conversation with the pigeon who denounced Alice being a serpent or egg thief , Alice went
straight to the house of the Duchess. The characters of Fish Footman and Frog Footman were also
omitted here. Surprisingly, in both books, there was the same sentence about Alice having seen a cat
without a grin, but never a grin without a cat. After visiting the Duchess and meeting the Cheshire Cat,
Alice goes on to the March Hare s tea party. In this part, the well known riddle Why is a raven like a
writing desk? changed into Why is a bird like a desk? . Personally, I can see no point in changing the
sentence and I think it was not necessary. Readers of the graded version could get confused about the
never ending tea party. In the original, the Hatter is mentioning the time as Him and tells a story about
why it s always six

In general, a bill will start with a member of Congress, but members of the public, state legislatures, or
the executive branch can also suggest a bill to them. After a congressman decides that they wish to
propose legislation, they then have to submit the bill to their respective house. In the House of
Representatives, all that is needed is to place the bill into a box, while in the Senate, one must file it
with a clerk. To illustrate the process, look at a hypothetical bill introduced in the House. After the bill
has been submitted, it will be recorded in the House Journal and the Congressional record. The
speaker of the house then assigns the bill to a committee. This is an important step and gives the
speaker a large amount of power, as assigning a bill to a committee that will view it unfavorably will
almost certainly result in the death of the bill. After the assignment, the committee will hold sessions
to make any changes they think are important, and if deemed necessary, the chair will send the bill to a
subcommittee. They will hold hearings and do further research before amending the bill, when it will
be returned to the main

Gentrification In The Workplace
My first year living in Pomona was terrifying. Within the first three months, my roommate s car was
stolen inside our apartment complex and was reported at a junkyard.
Keshet Weinstein, a junior Cal Poly student who has been living in a gated Pomona apartment for six
months, had a similar experience as my roommate,
Within the first month of moving in, my car was broken into while in my garage and I heard that there
were 10 bikes stolen, Weinstein said.
Gentrification has become a very broad buzzword. According to Webster dictionary it is described as
the process of renovating and improving a house or district so that it conforms to middle class taste.

Esparza wanted a 15 screen theater that would show movies in English, Spanish language, other

spark more mainstream stores and restaurants to open.
It would make the school more attractive, said Jenny Thai, a senior at Cal Poly Pomona who lived in

Urbanization is inevitable, whether we want it or not. Opposers are constantly bickering about the
political and moral consequences of gentrification. This topic is indeed mind boggling and complex.
However, there is a need to observe this multi faceted phenomenon in a different angle. Change is the

Joining a Discourse Community
Life is full of different paths that each person has to take to achieve their goals. In those roads, people
might find groups that share ideas, knowledge, culture, or tastes with them, called discourse
communities, which can lead to live experiences that might turn unforgettable. People can join an
infinite number of these groups, however in order to accomplish that they must convince its members
by applying some techniques taught in this class of English 1301, for example, knowing the group s
rhetorical situation, i.e. its cultural context, motivations, the audience itself, etc. or applying the

So joining a Discourse community is a major part of life, because it can help you to grow as a human
being, and to learn a lot of things that can turn helpful to become successful in the future, therefore
through personal experiences one can demonstrate the importance of joining these communities thus
to convey young people to understand that living this experience would give them the chance to share
with self opinionated people, that while arguing with them, they can reach into conclusions that could
change their way of thinking and seeing life. Consequently by presenting my personal experience, I
can let people know how essential joining a discourse community can be. Gaitas is a musical rhythm

The Indian Act Of 1876 And The Amendment Of 1985
Since the beginning of colonization, indigenous people of Canada have been repressed in many ways
by the Westerners. Aboriginal women have been having a really hard time, being not only aboriginal,
but also women in a male dominated society where women are seen as secondary and don t have all
the rights and privileges that men have. We will focus here on the legal discrimination against
indigenous women in Canada that came with the Indian Act of 1876 and the amendment of 1985, how
those two events influenced women. We will first study why indigenous women have been more
discriminated than indigenous men, then how the Indian Act reinforced this inequity. Then we will see
how the 1985 amendment came to be, a century later and what are the consequences of legal
discrimination for indigenous women in Canada. We will conclude that, in a context of discrimination
against natives with colonization, the Indian Act made legal injustices in detriment of indigenous
women, and that after years of favouritism against them they finally gained a bit of justice through the
amendment of 1985.
First of all, it s important to understand the context in which the Indian Act is taking place in terms of
equity for aboriginal women. With the colonization from the British and the French in Canada came
rapes, violence against indigenous population, especially women that were seen as weaker and easier
prey . After the colonizing period, violence against aboriginal women came not only from the

The Knife Of Never Letting Go Character Analysis
Imagine a world in which all the noise in your town disappears. In Prentisstown, some people have the
ability to hear other people s noise by reading their thoughts. What if all that was taken away? This
was the case for Todd Hewitt, age 12, the last boy in the town who is awaiting the day to become a
man. Every boy in Prentisstown officially becomes a man at age 13. Todd s journey to manhood is
filled with danger and adventure. In The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness, Todd s use of a
hunting knife as a symbol of protection is illustrated when he faces his town s evil mayor, and his
stranger turned friend Viola in the woods, and when he battles the crazy preacher, Aaron in a church.
It s hard to review The Knife Of Never Letting Go without spoiling the story. It s so cunningly written
that I was 100 pages in before I even realised what genre it was. I will say this though: it lives up to

The Prince Of Tides, By Susan Lowenstein
Ethics is something we all face at some point in our lives and in social work, we will be running into
ethical dilemmas on an everyday basis. The Prince of Tides is an insightful movie, every minute of it
left me with my eyes glued to the screen. Although, this movie does have some minor problems within
the plot. Prince of Tides is a movie about a grown woman named Savannah Wingo and she struggles
with suicide and depression. She lives in New York while her brother, Tom Wingo, lives in South
Carolina. She attempts suicide once again and the psychiatrist requests that Tom come to New York to
visit Savannah. Tom arrives in New York and instantly becomes involved in Savannah s case and the
psychiatrist, Susan Lowenstein. While trying to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lowenstein should not have shared that kind of information to her husband. This kind of behavior
violates the Code of Ethics and can result in a loss of her license.
Another strong ethical issue was the huge confidentiality issues that involves Susan and Savannah s
family. Susan reveals information about Savannah s sessions while she was still in a medically
induced coma, so clearly there was not permission to do so from Savannah or from a legal stance. The
Code of Ethics prohibits this kind of behavior and as a social worker is not acceptable.
Fourth ethical issue I spotted was the relationship was deepened when Dr. Lowenstein asked Tom to
coach her son in football. This is an indicator of a dual relationship that should be prohibited. Football
is a contact sport and this created a relationship between Tom and Susan s son. The relationship
escalated as Tom and the son we rolling around in the grass and became close as summer went on.
This is an unreasonable distance between client and Susan s personal life. If this was a social work
colleague, my ethical responsibility would to be consider both parties and approach the colleague to
gather information and get a better understanding of the situation. Also, it would be a good idea to
check the agencies work policies just to make sure this is a violation. If it is it might be a good idea to

The Uncertain Future Of Quebec Culture
The Uncertain Future of Quebec Culture
Gaetan Tremblay, a professor of communications at the University of Quebec at Montreal and deputy
manager of the Group of research on cultural industries and social computerization (GRICIS), is a
leading researcher for public policies in the field of communications. Tremblay is an advocate of
public policy that defends against cultural imperialism by countries such as the United States . In
particular, Tremblay studies the effects of the media on culture in Canada especially in a province like
Quebec which is distinct from the rest of English Canada.

The Constitution Act, 1867 contained specific provisions designed to protect Quebec s distinct culture
and language (Nicholson, 2003) Canada has always given guarantees to protect the Quebec culture, a
policy would be nice but it is not an absolute must have as he portrays. Tremblay then moves on to
say, that U.S Department of Commerce would like to deregulate the communications industry and
how horrible this would be for Canada . He points out that once this happens the U.S will pressure
Canada to do the same. Yet, he seems to forget that Canada is a sovereign nation that does not have to
give in to U.S pressure. Canada sets its own policies without being influenced by others. It has and
will always be this way. Quebec is already officially recognized as distinct, it is entrenched in the
constitution. Simply put, it does not get any better than that.
In the next part of the article, Tremblay addresses the amount of American programs on Quebec
television. Tremblay believes that the policies that are currently in place were only put in because of a
belief that the identity of Quebec is in danger. What is there really to be afraid of? From Tremblay s
own data the perceived danger is more of a myth. Nearly two thirds of all production in Quebec is
Canadian in origin, it actually increased by 4% in the late eighties. (Tremblay, 1992) Upon further
analysis, Tremblay points

What Is My Journey To Music Essay
Picking up a new instrument or musical skill may not be the first thing that appeals to you as a great
activity for retirement. It is the sort of activity that, at first glance, may seem too challenging to start at
this stage of life.
After all, those of us who have put in many years in the workforce are probably used to being the
expert in the room. Becoming a student again picking up something new that we are not already good
at may seem like a recipe for frustration and failure. Because we are not necessarily guaranteed to be

Why Is Disc Herniation Between L4 ( L4 ) ( 4 )
Disc herniation between L3 and L4 vertebra causes compression of the L4 nerve root as it crosses the
intervertebral disc before exiting the L4 intervertebral foramina. Numbness may be present over the
anteromedial aspect of the leg. Weakness of tibialis anterior muscle may be present as evidenced by
absence of heel walking. The quadriceps and hip adductor group, also may be weak and, in extended
ruptures, atrophic.Reflex testing may reveal a diminished or absent patellar tendon reflex (L2, L3, and

In the Elizabethan Era there were many big feasts and festivals. Some feasts were for the queen and
many other royals .These banquets and feast were very different from today. The average family in the
21st century eats one meal; however in the Elizabethan Era people ate five different course meals at
their banquets and feasts. Some of the foods that were served: a quarter stag, a stuffed ... Show more

In Elizabethan Era their audiences in their theater were filled like some of our movie theaters today.
Their performances were mostly given in the afternoon. Except in this century people mostly go to
movies at night time. Their movies would last two or three hours just like today s theater.
At some of these theater shows in the Elizabethan Era there were many different artist. Queen
Elizabeth even made up some of the arts herself. Some of the artist that painted portraits of Queen
Elizabeth was Hans Holbein, and Nicholas Hillard. Hillard painted a mini portrait of Queen Elizabeth
in 1952. Hillard painted most of his portraits from Henry s courtiers .Most of these paintings were
brought before Queen Elizabeth at these banquets and feasts that were held. These two artists got their
ideas from the European Renaissance.
In the painting that Hillard painted in 1572, he painted Queen Elizabeth in a piece of clothing they
called a ruff. The Elizabethan Era clothing style is something you wouldn t see anyone wearing in the
21st century. In the 2000s people wore jeans and shirts and casual jackets. In the Elizabethan Era

Ifrs Vs. Us Gaap Essay
For years, IASB and FASB have been working diligently on convergence with IFRS. Different
countries develop their own accounting standards based on their unique rules, principles, business
base, and tax; however, with globalization it s very important to reconcile between different
accounting standards. Two major standards are the US GAAP and IFRS, and they share many
differences and similarities. One of the main differences is the conceptual approach and framework,
IFRS is principle based whilst US GAAP is rule based (Forgeas, 2008). When comparing IFRS and
US GAAP, we can discover many differences in several areas. Based on note 27 of Swisscom s
consolidated financial statements, today we are going to reconcile and restate its financial statements
based on capitalization of interest cost, restructuring charges, depreciation expense, capitalization of
software, and restructuring charges of affiliates. Debit Credit Property, plant and equipment $ 54.00
Depreciation and amortization $ 5.00 Interest expense $ 13.00 Retained earnings $ 46.00 First, let s
look at capitalization on interest cost. Note 27 states that under US GAAP, Swisscom would have
capitalized CHF 13 million and amortized 5 million for current year. Based on this information, we
can make an adjustment entry to debit 54 million property, plant and equipment; 5 million to
depreciation and amortization. On the other hand, credit interest expense of 13

Analysis Of Nothing Gold Can Stay By Jane Flanders
The world has several great poets and numerous mind blowing works, each with its own way of
portraying its own message using symbolism to represent lessons of everyday life. Jane Flanders
wrote the poem named Cloud Painter she shows the world from an artistic way, using a painter and his
canvas to help the reader picture the true meaning behind the words and images created. Robert Frost
takes on the same idea, but uses a less complex example so that it makes his work easy to understand
while not revealing the actual meaning of the poem. Frost and Flanders are just two of the many poets
that use nature as a way of explaining the very lessons in life. Each poet has a different way of
presenting similar images but from a different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Flanders uses this line to represent the things opportunities in the world that are there and difficult to
get without giving up something in return. The special chances that are there from the start are often
not appreciated but the ones that have been worked for do not tend to lose their value over time.
Robert Frost on the other hand used a more fictional approach in Nothing Gold Can Stay . Nature s
first green is gold, her hardest hue to hold. This couplet has one key theme that not only lies in the
word choice but in the writing, itself. The start of spring is when all the new flowers blossom and the
leaves on trees become greener. The start of something fresh and lovely is the main point in this line
but this is also a way of saying that the best things that are free are given without any strings or
repercussions are taken advantage of. The next two lines Her early leaf s a flower; But only so an
hour. In other words, the possibilities that are given throughout life can also be taken away just as fast.
In Frost s poem, he uses the garden of Eden to help the reader to imagine where this idea is heading.
In the first sentence Frost states that Natures first green is gold this represents the very first blooming
of flowers and the return of the green leaves during the springtime which when applied to life, it

For the purpose of this assignment, I decided to go to make an observation at Starbucks at the Indiana

Bayou Farewell By Mike Tidwell
In Bayou Farewell by Mike Tidwell, Tidwell explores how the Cajuns in Southern Louisiana have
been impacted by climate change. Tidwell brings to attention that Louisiana has 40% of the United
States wetlands, but people do not realize all of the economic benefits and ecosystem services that
these wetlands provide. Sadly, these wetlands are being submerged and destroyed at the rate of over a
football field an hour. The main causes of Louisiana s wetlands disappearing are the levees that
prevent the Mississippi from dropping rich sediment at the mouth of the river to create barrier islands,
and the careless actions of oil and gas companies (creating pipelines everywhere and frequent oil
spills).

J.D. Salinger s Catcher In The Rye and Burr Steers Igby...
Comparative Essay
The Catcher In The Rye by J.D. Salinger and Igby Goes Down by Burr Steers are both displayed as
rites of passage texts. The respective protagonists of these two texts are Igby Slocumb and Holden
Caulfield. These two characters are both on a journey motif, a journey of self discovery in which they
both attempt to find meaning in life and understand societies values and attitudes. The two
protagonists demonstrate non conformity and rebel against the apparent hypocrisy present in their
respective societies. Hypocrisy can be defined as the difference between illusion and reality, in
accordance to society it can be seen as people who are not who they appear to be, people who apply a
façade. This hypocrisy is present in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s awful. If I m on my way to the store to buy a magazine, even, and somebody asks me where I m
going, I m liable to say I m going to the opera. It s terrible. By Holden admitting to his lying habits, he
provides the responder with reason to believe that he applies a façade by expressing false pretences.
This quotation also provides the audience with reason to think that Holden is not mentally healthy;
this literary technique is called foreshadowing. The rebellious attitudes demonstrated by both Holden
and Igby represent their attitudes to the concept of hypocrisy. Igby and Holden have similar values and
beliefs which reject this idea of illuding reality. Holden rejects all materialistic value and success
which corroborates with Igby s attitudes in rejecting the American Dream in which his Godfather,
D.H., has achieved. Neither of these two characters view, so called success, the way that the rest of
society does.
Another aspect of the respective texts is how the two protagonists display their individuality in order
to separate themselves from everyone else, they desire to be unique. This perception of reality is
articulated through the symbolism in The Catcher In The Rye and the wardrobe and lighting features
utilised throughout the movie Igby Goes Down. Holden s red hunting hat becomes inseparable from
the image of Holden. This hat is perceived as a symbol of his uniqueness and personality. The hat is
outlandish, and it shows that Holden desires to

Carpe Diem Analysis
Aaron Jeu
Ms. Wagner
English 1B
22 June 2017
Rough Draft: Life and Death Carpe Diem is a Latin phrase, which often tends to denote a significant
literary theme found in popular culture, including Peter Weir s Dead Poets Society or Green Day s
song, Carpe Diem. However, it is also especially common in lyrical poetry. According to Oxford
Dictionary, it is used [as encouragement] to make the most of the present life while it lasts or live for
the moment. Both Dylan Thomas s Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night and Robert Frost s
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening explore the notion that individuals should endeavor life to its
fullest. In his poem, Thomas expresses a very passionate, pleading voice to deeply allure his audience.
In contrast, Frost communicates his approach in a more pensive, practical, subtle style that slyly
provokes the audience to think about their own fate.
The collective theme of the two poems is similar in that both explain that death is imminent, that
individuals should not take for granted the time they have left on Earth, and that people need courage
to face death, and to realize that death can wait. However, Thomas utilizes an ardent, compelling tone
to assert his beliefs that individuals should partake in a more dynamic role and embrace what will
happen to them during their lives. On the contrary, Frost believes that every human has a timely death
and that people should strive to fulfill their commissions before giving in to death.

Neurons of the PFC translate diversity of information necessary for the attainment of future goals such

of stress related glucocorticoids on PFC neurons, stress does not only suppresses responses and
change the overall gain of medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) neuronal signaling, but results in a
fundamental shift in the manner in which the PFC represents information on stress. Studies on rats

My laughter is empty and hollow
My feelings are wrecked within and often, feigned
Wounded by sheer agony not so shallow
So much so that my breathing is strained
T was a tale of two carefree and mirthful souls
Walking on a bed of roses in delight
Before they knew it, it evolved into strolls
Nearing a dismal end nowhere in sight
Tearing in painful joy and deep despair
Those bittersweet memories reach a dead end
A relationship I cannot repair
And this dreadful kiss of death, was once a friend
The haunting past I can never mend

Once A Friend
This poem is about losing a friend. Without her friend, the speaker is deprived of happiness. Even
when the speaker laughs or smiles, it is faked. The speaker was affected so much that breathing
became a burden. Initially, they were elated but soon, it turned into a path with a bitter end. Kiss of
death is a phrase, which refers to something that causes failure. The turn at the ending couplet shows
the speaker s reflection that there is no point in feeling nostalgic, as she cannot change the past.
I Can See You From Up Here
This poem is about a dead person requesting for her loved one not to cry by claiming that she is not
dead. The speaker is trying to assure her loved one that she is always watching her from above. The
speaker objectifies herself as the clouds, birds, sun and stars as they are high in the sky, where Heaven
is thought to be. In the 5th stanza, the speaker states, suffered but in delight , as she suffered but since
she does not want her loved one to cry, she tells that she is delighted. The speaker also advises her
loved one not to revisit the past by retaining

Mistakes In America
When thinking about the word America, an interesting word popped up in my head. It isn t very easy
to describe this word, as it s unlike any other country. In fact, it is something more outstanding. Even
though this country has made some big mistakes in its history, it doesn t affect the definition it
deserves. Americans are a mixed race of people that come from many different countries; sharing the
same rights but possessing their own opinion on the idea of a better life for themselves and their
families. The ability to connect with each other and cooperate also helps to define the ability to move
forward and find new ways to innovate.
When I was first thinking about what I see an American as, I saw a fat, lazy person lying on the couch
and eating pizza everyday. However, while some of these people may exist, it s also a group of people
that are leading the world in technology and innovation. Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and many others have
made the world a better place. Americans are the western pilgrims, who are carrying along with them
that great mass of arts, sciences, vigour, and industry, which began long since in the East (P30).
Americans possess a creative nature that allows them to make things of a better quality. America has
become the strongest country by means of military and economy in the world, and while Americans

Machiavelli Archetypes
The Ideal Machiavellian Leader The media portrays a vast number of archetypes through the
animation of characters. Specifically, the archetype of a good leader is continually placed on display
and desired by the masses to be successful. The concept of a good leader is dated, and has been
introduced in the past several times by the famous writer, Niccolo Machiavelli. It is an archetype that
is a constant variable that is not bound by generation. Film adopts these same principles of the highly
coveted leader and brings them to life visually. Characters that are successful at gaining followers and
building positive relationships exemplify the traits of good leaders, whereas characters that cannot
solidify a following exemplify bad leaders. Niccolo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A good leader must have a strong personality. This person s personality must be able to induce people
into following him/her. Machiavelli defines this superior, advantageous personality as half beast, half
man (Machiavelli, N). Additionally, Machiavelli states it is important for a leader to know how to
make use of both natures and that one without the other is not durable (Machiavelli, N) Machiavelli
manufactures the connection of a good leader needing to understand how to effectively deal with
different types of people. A good leader s personality must be adaptable, to travel between man and
beast. The man persona may be more suitable for a compassionate person, while the beast persona
may work best with an aggressive person. This interpretation is depicted in Prison Break through the
protagonist Michael Scofield, in his relationships with the other inmates. For instance, in season 1
Michael purposely gets arrested and placed into prison. He requests to be in the same prison as his
older brother that is on death row, for a crime he is wrongly convicted of committing. His objective is

Child Neglect Within The United States
Child neglect refers to the continued failure to offer a child with the necessary protection, and care.
Such protection and attention involve the necessities such as food, medical care, clothing, as well as
shelter (Conte 7). In addition, lack of proper supervision for the young children for an extended
duration of time is also child neglect. There are various signs of possible neglect. These include;
inconsistent school attendance, evidence that health care is not being provided for in a child, or lack of
proper hygiene (Conte 9). The child may also appear to be lacking clothes or poorly nourished.
The issue of child neglect is one of the most current forms of child maltreatment especially in the
United States. According to the National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System, child neglect is
referred to as a kind of maltreatment which relates to the failure of a caregiver to offer the needed, age
appropriate care, despite the fact that the parent may be financially stable to do so (Conte 13). Neglect
in many instances is described by an ongoing pattern that relates to lack of care and is observed by
individuals in close contact with a child. Child neglect can occur in cases such as a parent or a
caregiver emotionally or physically neglecting a child (Conte 17). This issue has a lengthy history.
Many children have been subjected to neglect by their parents or other adults, for a considerable long
period. Children who were under the English common law were given a

Events such as the Commonwealth games in Glasgow are more about the state gaining land and
improving the cities international image than helping the local community (Glasgow Games Monitor,

transformation of culture and the exploitation of the lower classes. They did this through neoliberal
based policy, violence and the manipulation of consumerism. This resulted in the working class of
Glasgow falling victim to exclusionary displacement, economic vulnerability and helplessness. The

to determine the concentration of an unknown solution. Titrations are performed with a burette, which

intentions. But then the story shifts and all the attention the girls get from Sammy suddenly turns
around. A situation occurs where Sammy seems to grow up due to the way Lengel the store manager
treats the girls. Lengel publically embarrasses them because they entered the store barefoot and
dressed only in their bathing suits. Sammy said, You didn t have to embarrass them. Lengel said, It
was they who were embarrassing us. (88) This exchange between Sammy and Lengel shows their
conflicting principles. Lengel sees the girls as being disrespectful and thinks they are purposely

Personal Identity Is A Choice Not Dna
Personal Identity Is a Choice Not DNA In the quest for acceptance into the world many people
discover it difficult to put aside cultural difference to obtain, a better medium on social issues
surrounding racial derive tension. Equally, culture is a determining element in the average household,
on how a person should live out their life. The puzzling factor for many people is finding a way out of
the bias reasoning for why a person should only function as peers from their own community.
Comparatively, Langston Hughes a historical Harlem Renaissance poet, is addressing the topic base
on personal identity in the poem Theme for English B. The time period surrounds the Harlem
Renaissance is not so different from the world of today on cultural difference, that dividing people
from being whom they want to be and reject by others on the color of their skin. The reference of this
poem is critical when analyzing issues of personal identity from culture to similarity in common
interest in everyday people; the need for self identity. Thus, Culture should not be an issue when
attempting to find acceptance amongst others when advocating self identity for personal acceptance in
spirit. Pressure for change when identifying the need to move away from origin in cultural up bring is
a hard battle for anyone to win when family tides hold the link in change. For instance, people

Growing Project Complexity Demands More Efficient Way For...
Growing project complexity demands more efficient way to manage communication and workflows.
Collaboration became central to the PM and having a software that allows project artifacts to be
created easily shared and updated , that provides web based access and critical function such as
automatic distribution and notification are crucial to enhance the productivity . Agile project
management that has been given as much attention in the recent years is in growing popularity for the
next decades. Slightly updated, agile project management would take a hybrid form. Therefore,
project team is willing to combine agile with a traditional principles of PM to create personalized
hybrids. As before, the central point of Project Management Offices (PMO) attention remains the
question of measurements the effectiveness and result of the project. Previously, the main focus was
on input factors (reduced time and cost), today the attention is given to the output factor recipient or
client. The new definition of project success is that project can exceed its time and cost estimates so
long as the clients determines that it is successful by whatever criteria they use. Thus, the project value
is determined by the recipient not by provider (Ward, 2012 citied from O Sheedy, 2012).
PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT
The great role in the diffusion of PM practices and models within business is attributed to
international and national PM organization. PM associations were

What Were The Major Causes Of The French Revolution
What were the major causes of the French Revolution, and why did it take the course that it did? The
French Revolution of 1789 is an important milestone in the history of Europe. The revolution, not
only transformed the political, social and economic life of the people but also altered the entire course
of the worlds history. In the 18th century, France was a feudal society under the authority of an out
and out monarchy. The Bourbon monarchs lived in brilliance in the royal palace of Versailles. The
finances of France were in terrible conditions. The treasury was essentially empty after the many wars
that France was involved in. King Louis XVI was unable to guide France through the political and
financial crises. Queen Marie Antoinette, an

What Is An Unknown Titration Of Hydrochloric Acid
The purpose of this experiment is to determine an unknown concentration of acid (hydrochloric acid)
with a standard solution of a base (sodium carbonate) using titration method. The hypothesis is; as we
know the concentration of sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) we can obtain the concentration of
hydrochloric acid using the titration of a standard solution. Theoretical Principles behind Titration:
Titration is the slow addition of one solution of a known concentration (called a titrant) to a known
volume of another solution of unknown concentration until the reaction reaches neutralisation, which
is often indicated by a colour change. The solution called the titrant must satisfy the necessary
requirements to be a primary or secondary standard. In a broad sense, titration is a technique to
determine the concentration of an unknown solution. We can use the reaction to find out the molarity
of the solution by measuring the product(s) that is formed. In this experiment, we use a known
concentration (Na2CO3) to determine an unknown concentration of acid (HCl). This reaction is
neutralisation reaction, which we ll get water and salt as the products. Acid + Base Salt + Water We
can use a pH indicator, a chemical that changes colour depending on the pH, to show us when the
reaction has completely neutralised. This point, where all acid was consumed and there is no excess of
base, is called the equivalence point (end point). We can use this

The problem we face today is not finding the sources of medication, but the communication barrier between science and the community. And the village health workers, if the pay doesn t come out, they toy toy , they don t go to work (Ginneken et al. 2010:1115). Introducing this stipend caused CHWs to reject volunteer work. The current potential professionalisation of CHWs makes the ideal bridging gap between the community and the health system more distant. • 4. Healthcare Reform And Health Care Reform As evidenced by the constant battle over health care reform, healthcare in the United States has become a growing problem that must be addressed. While the main controversy seems to be the politics of healthcare reform and whether the government should have total control, the one thing that I believe should be the focus, is the quality of care that is embedded in the patient doctor relationship. It s quite troublesome when large health insurance companies are swaying politicians to vote for less health care regulation and higher premiums rather than focusing on the quality of care and the importance of the patient doctor relationship, which has become overshadowed. That is why I believe it is important to look at and consider how health care reform such as the PPACA and policies implemented by private insurance companies have affected the doctor patient relationship and thereby influenced the quality of medical care. One of the many reasons that I find this an interesting and important topic is because I aspire to work in the medical field and the interaction between patients and doctors is important for me to consider and determine how it has changed, whether it be for better or worse, throughout the years as a result of added regulations and new reforms. A pivotal aspect of receiving quality medical care is being able to communicate your health concerns and have confidence and trust in your doctor, which is essentially the doctor patient relationship. • 6. The Importance Of Guidance Counsellors Counselling is a professional relationship that empowers diverse individuals, families and groups to accomplish mental health, wellness, education and career goals (Spurgeon, 2012). Schools have been identified as one of the main settings for the promotion of well being and mental health in children and young people (Department for Education and Employment, 2001; DCSF, 2008b, as cited in Harris, 2009). Counselling in an educational context establishes career and college planning, interpersonal concerns, family matters, substance use, and personal identity issues, dominating student s awareness, with the counselling climate providing an appropriate environment to address these issues (Cormier Hackney, 2012). Due to the increasing needs of counselling within schools, School Guidance Counsellors are a critical commodity for young people in today s society. For new Guidance Counsellors, there is a broad range of concepts that need to be established and developed. One key concept is counsellor identity. There are many facets that can inform a counsellor s professional identity and these factors are paramount in the continuance of development and advancement in the helping profession. • 7. Jump Shot In Basketball Basketball is one of my favorite sports, and is one of the most watched and played sports all around the world. In basketball a jump shot makes it easier to score the basketball faster. Jump shots can be a deadly weapon against your opponents, because it comes down to something they cannot stop. An incorrect jump shot will have more miss shots than made shots, but a correct jump shot will have more made shots than miss shots. Everyone wants a correct jump shot, but sadly a correct jump shot isn t given to anyone, everyone has to put in hard work and go through the basic fundamentals to develop a very good jump shot. The first step to a correct jump shot is study proper positioning on the body when the jump shot is being shot. Take notes and see if the feet, hands, arms, and body is positioned the correct way. Next get a basketball and go to a basketball court or basketball gym and prepare to change the jump shot if it the jump shot was incorrect. Then position the feet in a proper position before shooting. Move the feet no more than shoulder width apart. Take the feet and position them in a comfortable position that has a good balance. Get the balance of the feet that feels comfortable for shooting, and then point the feet in the direction of the basketball goal. Lift them off the ground, and make sure they are never flat footed when the ball is caught at any direction. Develop the feet into a comfortable stance, and never change the stance that is created. Cultural Meaning CULTURAL MEANING The meaning humans give to actions, concepts and behaviours is dependent on the cultural milieu and is conditioned to a great extent by the underlying meaning systems, values and frames of meaning he/she inherites from the society in general. Socialization plays a direct role in that process. Education, effects of peers and the intellectual atmosphere all contribute to what is called cultural meaning or systems of meaning. Another cultural phenomenon seen through the different lenses of various cultures is leadership. Leadership is also loaded with cultural meanings and values. In general, eastern cultures are said to put much emphasis on social harmony and collective action. Respect to elders, family ties are given importance in these cultures. Leaders in these cultures are expected to be humble, caring and considerate thinking about the well being of their followers. In this sense, they are seen as somewhat paternalistic figures. They are required to show mercy and understanding towards inferiors, to care for the problems of those they lead. Whereas, in western culture a competitive society is preferred and leaders are thought to be assertive, highly competitive and efficient decision makers. Humane considerations do not seem to play great role in this scheme. Efficiency and beneficial results matter more than paternalistic protection of subordinates. As a graded version, I ve had the book from Oxford University Press, stage 2 which is 700 words. The CD version was also available in the graded book and was retold by Jennifer Bassett. The first difference between the two versions was the number of chapters, the original had 12 chapters whereas the graded one only 6. After the very first chapter of the graded version, I did not find anything important missing. The language was, of course, more simple, some of the sentences were left out, but everything important was kept. In the second chapter, there was no conversation between Alice swimming in the pool of tears and the animals, only two sentences were retained. The conversation continued to the third chapter. The speaker of the house then assigns the bill to a committee. This is an important step and gives the speaker a large amount of power, as assigning a bill to a committee that will view it unfavorably will almost certainly result in the death of the bill. Aboriginal women have been having a really hard time, being not only aboriginal, but also women in a male dominated society where women are seen as secondary and don t have all the rights and privileges that men have. We will focus here on the legal discrimination against indigenous women in Canada that came with the Indian Act of 1876 and the amendment of 1985, how those two events influenced women. We will first study why indigenous women have been more discriminated than indigenous men, then how the Indian Act reinforced this inequity. Then we will see how the 1985 amendment came to be, a century later and what are the consequences of legal discrimination for indigenous women in Canada. We will conclude that, in a context of discrimination against natives with colonization, the Indian Act made legal injustices in detriment of indigenous women, and that after years of favouritism against them they finally gained a bit of justice through the amendment of 1985. First of all, it s important to understand the context in which the Indian Act is taking place in terms of equity for aboriginal women. Two major standards are the US GAAP and IFRS, and they share many differences and similarities. One of the main differences is the conceptual approach and framework, IFRS is principle based whilst US GAAP is rule based (Forgeas, 2008). When comparing IFRS and US GAAP, we can discover many differences in several areas. Based on note 27 of Swisscom s consolidated financial statements, today we are going to reconcile and restate its financial statements based on capitalization of interest cost, restructuring charges, depreciation expense, capitalization of software, and restructuring charges of affiliates. Debit Credit Property, plant and equipment $ 54.00 Depreciation and amortization $ 5.00 Interest expense $ 13.00 Retained earnings $ 46.00 First, let s look at capitalization on interest cost. Note 27 states that under US GAAP, Swisscom would have capitalized CHF 13 million and amortized 5 million for current year. Based on this information, we can make an adjustment entry to debit 54 million property, plant and equipment; 5 million to depreciation and amortization. • 23. Analysis Of Nothing Gold Can Stay By Jane Flanders The world has several great poets and numerous mind blowing works, each with its own way of portraying its own message using symbolism to represent lessons of everyday life. Jane Flanders wrote the poem named Cloud Painter she shows the world from an artistic way, using a painter and his canvas to help the reader picture the true meaning behind the words and images created. Robert Frost takes on the same idea, but uses a less complex example so that it makes his work easy to understand while not revealing the actual meaning of the poem. Frost and Flanders are just two of the many poets that use nature as a way of explaining the very lessons in life. Each poet has a different way of presenting similar images but from a different ... The special chances that are there from the start are often not appreciated but the ones that have been worked for do not tend to lose their value over time. Robert Frost on the other hand used a more fictional approach in Nothing Gold Can Stay . Nature s first green is gold, her hardest hue to hold. This couplet has one key theme that not only lies in the word choice but in the writing, itself. The start of spring is when all the new flowers blossom and the leaves on trees become greener. The start of something fresh and lovely is the main point in this line but this is also a way of saying that the best things that are free are given without any strings or repercussions are taken advantage of. The next two lines Her early leaf s a flower; But only so an hour. In other words, the possibilities that are given throughout life can also be taken away just as fast. In Frost s poem, he uses the garden of Eden to help the reader to imagine where this idea is heading. In the first sentence Frost states that Natures first green is gold this represents the very first blooming of flowers and the return of the green leaves during the springtime which when applied to life, it ... Tidwell brings to attention that Louisiana has 40% of the United States wetlands, but people do not realize all of the economic benefits and ecosystem services that these wetlands provide. Sadly, these wetlands are being submerged and destroyed at the rate of over a football field an hour. The main causes of Louisiana s wetlands disappearing are the levees that prevent the Mississippi from dropping rich sediment at the mouth of the river to create barrier islands, and the careless actions of oil and gas companies (creating pipelines everywhere and frequent oil spills). This quotation also provides the audience with reason to think that Holden is not mentally healthy; this literary technique is called foreshadowing. The rebellious attitudes demonstrated by both Holden and Igby represent their attitudes to the concept of hypocrisy. Igby and Holden have similar values and beliefs which reject this idea of illuding reality. Holden rejects all materialistic value and success which corroborates with Igby s attitudes in rejecting the American Dream in which his Godfather, D.H., has achieved. Neither of these two characters view, so called success, the way that the rest of society does. Another aspect of the respective texts is how the two protagonists display their individuality in order to separate themselves from everyone else, they desire to be unique. Carpe Diem Analysis Aaron Jeu Ms. Wagner English 1B 22 June 2017 Rough Draft: Life and Death Carpe Diem is a Latin phrase, which often tends to denote a significant literary theme found in popular culture, including Peter Weir s Dead Poets Society or Green Day s song, Carpe Diem. However, it is also especially common in lyrical poetry. According to Oxford Dictionary, it is used [as encouragement] to make the most of the present life while it lasts or live for the moment. Both Dylan Thomas s Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night and Robert Frost s Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening explore the notion that individuals should endeavor life to its fullest. In his poem, Thomas expresses a very passionate, pleading voice to deeply allure his audience. In contrast, Frost communicates his approach in a more pensive, practical, subtle style that slyly provokes the audience to think about their own fate. The collective theme of the two poems is similar in that both explain that death is imminent, that individuals should not take for granted the time they have left on Earth, and that people need courage to face death, and to realize that death can wait. However, Thomas utilizes an ardent, compelling tone to assert his beliefs that individuals should partake in a more dynamic role and embrace what will happen to them during their lives. On the contrary, Frost believes that every human has a timely death and that people should strive to fulfill their commissions before giving in to death. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In fact, it is something more outstanding. Even though this country has made some big mistakes in its history, it doesn t affect the definition it deserves. Americans are a mixed race of people that come from many different countries; sharing the same rights but possessing their own opinion on the idea of a better life for themselves and their families. What Is An Unknown Titration Of Hydrochloric Acid The purpose of this experiment is to determine an unknown concentration of acid (hydrochloric acid) with a standard solution of a base (sodium carbonate) using titration method. The hypothesis is; as we know the concentration of sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) we can obtain the concentration of hydrochloric acid using the titration of a standard solution. Theoretical Principles behind Titration: Titration is the slow addition of one solution of a known concentration (called a titrant) to a known volume of another solution of unknown concentration until the reaction reaches neutralisation, which is often indicated by a colour change. The solution called the titrant must satisfy the necessary requirements to be a primary or secondary standard. In a broad sense, titration is a technique to determine the concentration of an unknown solution. We can use the reaction to find out the molarity of the solution by measuring the product(s) that is formed. In this experiment, we use a known concentration (Na2CO3) to determine an unknown concentration of acid (HCl). This reaction is neutralisation reaction, which we ll get water and salt as the products. Acid + Base Salt + Water We can use a pH indicator, a chemical that changes colour depending on the pH, to show us when the reaction has completely neutralised. This point, where all acid was consumed and there is no excess of base, is called the equivalence point (end point). We can use this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
