in the base design a clamping mechanism in order to be securely fastened onto a

Civic Engagement Reflection
This semester for my civic engagement, I got the opportunity to work with WKAR.
It is part of Michigan State University Broadcasting Services, a division of MSU
Communication Arts Sciences. It includes WKAR TV, WKAR Radio,
WKAR.org, Radio Reading Service, WKAR Ready to Learn Service and
Interactive Video Services. During my time with them, I got the opportunity to
work with Jennifer Preslar. She is the Event/Project Coordinator for their Public
Media Department. The project that I m currently work on is the Indie Lens Pop
Up, Screening of I Am Not Your Negro by James Baldwin. For this project, I ve got
the opportunity to help Jennifer with marketing and promoting, and securing guest

We arrived shortly after 1pm, so the restaurant did not have many patrons. There
were only two other tables occupied at the time. One was a large Indian family
seated at a long row of tables down the center of the restaurant and the other was a
table of Caucasian women in the booth behind ours. Our server, the same man who
seated us, brought us water and directed us toward the buffet. The first thing I noticed
when approaching the buffet was the smell. There were so many different spices and
food smells lingering in the air it was unbelievably appetizing. The buffet was rather
extensive, with about 20 different dish options to choose from including naan and
dessert. I did not hesitate. I took a little bit of everything until my plate was full. I
then proceeded to cover the plate with several pieces of garlic naan. The food was
simply delicious. It ranged from every level of spiciness without being so spicy
that it killed the taste. My favorite dishes were a spiced zucchini dish and the Aloo
Mater which is a potato and green pea dish with a perfect blend of Indian spices.
Also, the naan was extraordinary; soft and crispy with slivered green onion and
pureed garlic spread on top. We also ordered chai which was delicious and had the

Every fall and spring of the year, our school has all students participate in NWEA
Maps testing. These tests are used to create our school wide goal, and for many of us,
or individual goals for the year. Math and English are the two areas of focus, to see
where we stand in regards to the grade level norms that each school is supposed to
perform at. In the past, our school as a whole has scored significantly below the
norm. My second year, we had a 4+ point deficit, and expected growth is limited to
1.3 a year on average. Thus, there is a huge emphasis on improving our scores each
year.
We have about a week and a half that we spend on testing, and each subject goes on
a different day. Throughout the course of the week our students will go with each of

At first I tried to use my own conversational skills when dealing with customers, but

Prejudice comes in all forms; whether it is due to someone s skin color, religion, or

all around us. Miriam Webster defines Prejudice as injury or damage resulting from
some judgment or action of another in disregard to one s rights . Although most
people tend to associate prejudicewith racism, that is not always the case. In quite a
few instances of everyday life, it is hate towards another person you consider to be
inferior and not normal. Prejudice implies a closed point of view, one that is not

interacted with. It is through the Narrators eyes we see his skeptical tone expressed in
