Parenthood Movie Psychology
Parenthood (1989) is a movie that deals with family life and the stages of human development. Gil
Buckman is the father of three children Kevin, Taylor and Justin Buckman. Also, the husband of
Karen Buckman. He works at a firm where he thinks he is on the track for a partnership. He coaches
Kevin team in baseball and wants to be a better father than his dad. Also, he cares a lot about what
other people think. In this movie Gil goes through a couple of stages dealing with his career, family,
household and marriage.
Gil is in his middle adulthood stage. According to Erikson developmental stage he is experiencing
generativity versus stagnation. Generativity is when adults decide to leave positive legacies of
themselves to the next generation. Stagnation is the negative side; individuals sense they have done
little to nothing for the next generation. In Santrock (2016, p. 350), the characteristics of ... Show

In the movie Parenthood (1989), Gil says his dream is to be different with his kids, have strong, happy,
and confident kids. This is Gil wanting to do something positive with his kids and different. Gil didn t
want to leave a negative aspect on his kids, like how his father did to him. Gil showed signs of
exhibiting generativity when he threw Kevin a birthday party and the cowboy didn t show up. Being
the father he is, he seen Kevin getting emotional and the other kids was making fun of his party. Gil
dressed up as a cowboy and turned the party around. Which made Kevin trust in his father more. Also,
In the movie Parenthood (1989), Gil says to his wife why is Kevin so high sprung, he is like a poodle
and everything is blown out of proportion. Where do he get this obsession behavior? And his wife
says sarcastically I wish I knew. This is an example of biological generativity. Gil displays
generativity more than stagnation towards his kids and family. He made sure he was there for his kids

How Did Robespierre Influence The French Revolution
Robespierre was hinting at a society based on virtue defining the political positon of a person set in a
similar society of terror, an early communist like society. But the Convention greatly disagreed with
him and agreed that he had begun to go insane with power, similarly to how Napoleon Bonaparte
would for the following years militaristically. Consumed by the Revolution, Robespierre is then
executed. Starting the war, Robespierre held a firm belief of sovereignty and equality, to form a
republic, and was against the death penalty, viewing it as an excessive punishment. But, as the war
progresses his ideology begins to change, favoring the use of the guillotine and leading a society of
terror. Marat was an extreme radical of the French Revolution. The difference to the others was the
fact that he was not part of any political group, but instead a powerful and influential advocator
through the press. Through his writing, he called for war against the monarchy, death to any traitors,
and declared anyone that did not support the National Assembly was not a true French citizen and
labeled a counterrevolutionary. In voicing these things, the public became more motivated to fight for
the cause and Marat became a saint among the people, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

His stance in finding success through the death of more and more people was also held up by the ends
justifying the means, if it meant bringing happiness to the people. His journalism would lead to people
taking action and also resulting in the September Massacres in September 1792, where citizens
stormed into prisons and killed the criminals held there, as well as royal guards, and other suspected
citizens called out in his journalism. Even after his assassination, he was treated as a

Human Impacts on the Environment
Human Impacts on the Environment: Ocean Acidification
Ecological human effects on the planet are now about 40% greater than the planet can support in a
sustainable fashion (Grossman, 2010). One of the many areas with significant damage is the marine
biosphere. Ocean acidification is a great threat to marine and subsequently human life.
The pH level in the ocean has been a relatively constant 8.15 to 8.25 and organisms have evolved
under these circumstances for over 50 million years. However since the end of the Industrial
Revolution, worldwide burning of fossil fuels and human innovations such as concrete manufacture
have resulted in the release of more than 440 billion metric tonnes of carbon dioxide into the
atmosphere. Excess ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anthropogenic emissions over the past 200 years have caused ocean acidity levels to increase by 40 %
(Ocean Studies Board, 2010). Without major intervention and significant reduction of the global
carbon footprint this will result in severe and irreversible damage to ecosystems and organisms ocean
wide.
Phytoplankton is found in the surface area of the water and is the primary element of varied and
elaborate food webs in the pelagic, (an area of open water away from shore and bed) and other marine
systems. Phytoplankton is essential for the cycling of nutrients in these systems, and acidification has
effects upon photosynthesis, nitrogen fixation and calcification. These processes are key for
zooplankton and phytoplankton composition.
Humans are provided with a variety of services from marine ecosystems, such as protection from
erosion and coastal flooding, seafood, nutrient cycling and natural products. As acidification
progresses, these precious assets are likely to disappear. Should we choose to, there is both the
technology and the economic potential to ensure a discernible decrease in carbon dioxide emissions.
This is a far preferable and effective alternative to suggestions of geoengineering, with many proposed
strategies failing to address the root cause of acidification (Royal Society, 2005). The longer it is taken
to find a combative strategy, the greater the legacy of environmental

##er Affect And Queer Temporality In Charlotte Bronte s...
Both the scholarly community and the public alike recognize Jane Erye as a feminist classic, a bold
social commentary penned by a daring woman intent on shedding light on the hypocrisy that riddled
Victorian English society. Indeed, the rise of the character Jane Eyre from a suppressed and maltreated
orphan to a woman capable of grasping at independence and whose husband needs her as much as,
possibly even more, than she needs him, appears on the surface to be a tale meant to empower any
female. However, there is a limit to how much light Charlotte Brontë deigns to shed, and its feeble
rays fall short of a dank, gloomy, and locked room on the third floor of Thornfield Hall. In The
Maniac Bellowed : Queer Affect and Queer Temporality in Charlotte Brontë s Jane Eyre , Carolyn
Marjorie Davis asserts that the arms of Brontë s feminism do not embrace women who fail to fulfill
certain standards of domesticity and femininity, namely, they do not embrace Bertha Mason, the mad
and muscular, foreign and forgotten wife of Edward Rochester. Davis analyzes how the elements of
queerness, in the form of gender nonconformity, in Bertha s character, as well as her ethnic
background, make her intolerably other in relation to the gender conforming, Angelo Saxon
characters, and claims that the incarceration and eventual death of Bertha represent Charlotte Brontë s
own imperialistic and hegemonic prejudices. A careful reading of Bertha, her actions, and the
reactions of the

Growing Up In A Bilingual Classroom
I stare mesmerized at the Fourth of July fireworks exploding colorfully overhead and struggle to form
an intelligible sound. Gurgling and sputtering, I finally spit out the French word violet as if by magic.
My first word. As the son of an American dad and a French mom, I bleed red, white, and blue and
bleu, blanc, et rouge. Although my first word was in French, I grew up in the United States and
learned the French and English languages simultaneously in a bicultural environment. I spoke French
at home with my parents and English in public. My American and French backgrounds are an
inextricable part of my identity and the experiences they bring have shaped and enhanced my life.

It has helped me to be more mentally flexible and to think divergently, a skill that allows me to more
easily abstract and conceptualize ideas. I also receive immense satisfaction from being able to speak
directly to people from all walks of life in their own languages. To share the benefits I have gained
from the exposure to languages with others, this summer, without any prior computer programming
experience, I combined my passion for languages and technology by developing a smartphone
application that teaches toddlers simple words and sentence structure in various languages. The
application is intuitive enough for young children to effortlessly handle and has modes of use that
imitate the way humans naturally learn to speak a language: through listening, repetition, and
immediate feedback. My experience with a bilingual and bicultural upbringing has given me an
insatiable curiosity for all languages, cultures, histories, and places. It has also equipped me with the
necessary skills to function in diverse environments and easily adapt to new situations. When I think
of my future with its many unknowns, there are a few things of which I am certain: I want to study

Imperial Reform in Britian from 1815 to 1870 Essay
Imperial Reform in Britian from 1815 to 1870 The period 1815 to 1870 was characterized by radical
change in the character of the British Empire, to the extent that, by the end of the period, the empire
consisted of two distinct parts: one made up of dependent colonies, experiencing direct formal rule;
and the other made up of self governing settlement colonies. This development occurred as a result of
a series of social, political and economic reforms. In order to judge whether economic factors
dominated imperial reform during this period, an assessment of the causes and nature of reforms is
necessary. However, while imperial reform was multicausal, great weight can be given to the
argument ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In turn, the abolitionist movement, consisting of humanitarian reformers, church missionaries etc
exerted political pressure on government ministers, creating a climate in government circles which led
directly to the passing of the abolition acts. Therefore, the first major imperial reform of the 19th
century, the abolition of slavery, was primarily motivated by social and political factors, rather than
merely economic ones. Nevertheless, underlying economic factors, such as the cost of the slave
system in regions experiencing economic decline, as well as the economic advantages of
industrialisation which caused the emergence of a new middle class with differing views, may have
contributed to the change. Political reforms of the period focus mainly on the development of self
government within the colonies of settlement. The granting of self government was sparked by an
armed rebellion in Canada in 1837 following the failure of the British Governor to grant greater
democracy, and the resulting emergence of an oppressed minority of French settlers of Lower Canada.
The Canadian rebellion was a catalyst for political reforms, stemming from the 1839 Durham Report
which reprimanded the British administration and called for the uniting of Upper and Lower Canada
to form a single

Creon Is The Tragic Hero Of Antigone
One might think Antigone is the tragic hero of her own story, but as the audience read in The Burial at
Thebes: A Version of Sophocles Antigone translated by Seamus Heaney, readers know that she is not
the tragic hero and learn the King is. The story starts after Polyneices and Eteocles battled to the death.
This Creon as next in line to take the crown. Creon buries Eteocles but leaves Polyneices body to rot.
Antigone wants to bury Polyneices, as a result, he goes the Underworld. Based on Aristotle s
definition, Creon is the tragic hero of Antigone because although he starts from a position of
greatness, his tragic flaws lead to a catastrophe; he realizes the error of his ways, but it is too late to
prevent the catastrophe; his downfall and suffering leave him humbled and enlightened. First, based
on Aristotle s definition, Creon is the tragic hero of Antigone because although he starts from a
position of greatness, his tragic flaw leads to Catastrophe. Creon says And I, as next of kin to those
dead and doomed,/ I m next in line./ The throne has come to me (Heaney 15). This is the point where
Creon says that he is king once again. That s how guilt/ Affects some people./ They Simply break/ and
everything comes out./ But the barefaced ones./ The ones who defy you more when they re found out,/
They re worse again (Heaney 31). He means that guilt results in truth and that people who defy him
talk more when they are caught. Creon knows that Antigone is the one who went

Role of the Mexican-American War in Bridging the Gap...
ABOLITION TO SECESSION VIA MEXICAN AMERICAN WAR 1 The Mexican American War
(1846 1848) marked a midpoint in U.S. history that bridged the gap between the abolitionist
movement and the Civil War, which is not always recognized but is in some ways still with us today.
Teacher Eric Burnett, for example, outlines a long list of catalysts leading up to the Civil War itself but
omits the Mexican American war even though the Civil War catalysts go back through the 1840s all
the way back to Eli Whitney inventing the Cotton Gin in 1793 (2010, n.p.). The Mexican American
war, however, aggravated the division between the free, abolitionist North, and the pro slave South,
where the abolitionist Northerners saw the U.S. annexation of Texas and the lands north of the Rio
Grande after the decisive victory over Mexico, as an attempt by the slave states to extend slavery and
enhance their power when additional slave states were created out of soon to be acquired Mexican
lands (Encyclopaedia Britannica, 2012, n.p.). This re opened a conflict that had been lying dormant
since the Missouri Compromise of 1820, where Missouri and any new states south of the Missouri
border would enter the Union as slave states, but anything north of Missouri would enter as free states.
This aggravated the political division that would result in the birth of the abolitionist Republican party,
and cause the imbalance between the pro slave South, against the anti slavery North, that led directly

Old Myth In Icarus By Edward Field
Icarus By: Edward Field In the poem Icarus written by Edward is about an old myth that took place in
1963. Everyone thought Icarus had drowned as the myth said. However he actually managed to swim
to a city and survive. His neighbors have no idea that he is anything other than ordinary. He feels that
he has fallen from something great to something average. Icarus keeps trying to fix his wings in order
to regain his old glory. He used to think he was a hero, however he now realizes that he is just average
and he wishes he had died heroically. Field rewrote the Icarus myth for the modern world to grasp and

Women In Leslie Chang s Factory Girls And Her TED Talk
Women s rights and equality were cornerstones of Chinese modernization, especially of Mao s vision
of an egalitarian socialist state (illustrated by his slogan that women could hold up half the sky ).
Increased female participation in labor seen as essential to the state and party agenda. While there
were without a doubt many issues women still faced within this period, many policies of the Chinese
Communist Party contributed to women s equality. However, after Mao s death and Deng Xiaoping s
rise to power and his vision of the nation as Socialist with Chinese Characteristics, and the
implementation of China s Open Door Policy, women have again become subordinated in many
spheres of society. Yet instead of relying on male political theorists ... Show more content on

Dagong means working for the boss or selling labor, and illustrates the commodification of labor and
the subordinate status of the worker, in contrast to socialist imaginations of work as liberating. Mei
means little sister, often associated with young, unmarried women in contrast to jie , the older, mature
sister . Thus, the term dagongmei symbolizes the subordination of female migrants, both as migrant
workers under urban factory owners, and as women expected to work long hours, some sacrificing
their education, in order to support their families. Pun articulates the very real struggles many
dagongmei face, from the 1993 Shenzhen factory fire that killed over 80 migrant workers, all but two
female, only then alerting China and the rest of the world of the human costs of China s rapid
development to one woman, Yan, who screams in her sleep after years of work despite being in deep
physical and emotional pain. Such pain is unbearable, and to scream out is the only way to survive.
Yet as Pun argues, their very survival is of itself a form of resistance. These migrant workers may not
be organizing, staging mass strikes or protests against the state or factory owners, but they are
resisting. By screaming out, Yan is forcing the world to hear her pain. By telling

Questions On A Texas Court Essay
DISCUSSION
A Texas court will likely find that Adam tortuously interfered with Blake s contract with WP. Under
Texas Law, the elements of tortious interference with an existing contract are: (1) an existing contract
subject to interference, (2) a willful and intentional act of interference with the contract, (3) that
proximately caused the plaintiff s injury, and (4) caused actual damages or loss. Prudential Ins. Co. of
Am. v. Fin. Review Servs., Inc., 29 S.W.3d 74, 77 (Tex. 2000). If the other associate can prove
proximate causation and actual damages, then Blake s tortious interference case will likely prevail in a
Texas court since Blake s contract was an existing contract subject to interference and that Adam s
interference had been willful and intentional.
I. Blake s age does not bar him from entering a contract with WP that is subject to interference
At the time of Adam s interference, Blake likely possessed an existing contract with WP that was
subject to interference. Further, Blake s age has no bearings whatsoever with regards to validity of his
contract with WP. Each of the elements of a valid contract are undisputedly present in Blake s
agreement with WP: an offer, an acceptance in strict compliance with the offer s terms, a meeting of
the minds, consent by both parties, and execution and delivery of the contract with the intent that it
become mutual and binding on both parties. See Stewart Stevenson, LLC v. Galveston Party Boats,

Collage Discovery
When I was seven years old I made a huge discovery about science. I realized that everything that
surrounds me; the tree in my yard, the house that I live in, and the chair that I am sitting in right now
are made of the same exact materials that I am made of! I made this discovery whilst I was discussing
science with my dad. Earlier that day, at school we had been talking about molecules and how they
were made of atoms. My dad often likes to extend my understanding of subjects which I study at
school, which is what he was doing that day. Since we had discussed atoms and molecules in school
my dad had decided to go a little further with me, and talk about what atoms were made of. This led us
to the subject of protons, neutrons and electrons. Over the course of the next few days he taught me
the basics of what I have now come ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

did everyday. I rushed over to him and asked him when we could talk, Later, be patient he replied. I
opened the car door, and jumped in, closing the door after myself. My dad got into the car, and we
started on the short drive home. The whole ride I was bouncing up and down in my seat in
anticipation. When I finally got home, my dad gave in to me and said we could talk about string
theory. We sat down and he explained string theory to me. He then explained how strings could be

Lucia Valdivia is an assistant professor of English and Humanities at Reed College. In her article, she
talks about how the right to speak freely is not the same as the right to rob others of their voices. I
agree because, ultimately, everyone believes they are fighting for the right cause, so silencing the
other party s voice means we must silence all parties voices. The heckler s veto is defined as the
suppression of speech in order to appease disruptive, hostile, or threatening members of the audience,
(Gillman, Chemerinsky). This has been ruled time and time again as unconstitutional when speakers
are actually designated to speak in a private area. Although, in a public space, such as an open campus

though I may not be for long I put my entire heart and soul into it and love every second. I have long

Analysis Of Gwen Harwood s Anthology Of Selected Poems
The notion that ordinary, everyday experiences encompass universal emotions of both sadness and
delight is central to Gwen Harwood s anthology of Selected Poems. This Australian poet often uses
her personal journey towards self knowledge and experience of growing up to comment on universal
aspects of raw, uncensored life experiences. She aims to convey the idea that motherhood is a difficult
experience for many women who resent the way they are forced to abandon their individuality and
careers. Harwood also illustrates the sadness in the loss of innocence and regrets in childhood.
However, she also reminds the audience of the importance of celebrating the richness and vitality of
human life such as the importance and power of women and parenthood. Ultimately the collection
also suggests that aspects of both sadness and delight are evident in every human experience.
Harwood s works challenge the patriarchal, societal view of motherhood as a role of delight, joy and
fulfillment, revealing the hollow façade of meaningless that often comes with domestic suburban
roles. She explores the role of women in her contemporary Australian society, criticising and
challenging the expectations that women must be restricted to the domestic sphere in this patriarchal
society. Harwood s graphic description and evocative imagery conveys the hopelessness of many
women. Home of Mercy explores how females are dehumanized as the pregnant, unmarried girls have
sinned in the eyes of society and

Suspense In The Most Dangerous Game By Richard Connell
Suspense is that feeling of stress or anxiety because you are uncertain of what the story will bring
next. When all of the events in a story are falling into place and are climbing to its highest potential.
Some stories have more of a suspense than others depending on what methods the author uses to
display suspense.
The first method of creating suspense in a story is the pace. Whether the pace of a story is slow or fast,
it can help with the buildup of suspense. In some ways it is like a roller coaster ride. You may have a
sigh of relief for that character in a certain situation, only to find out at the very next moment that they
have come upon an even worse one, just like the up and down motions of a roller coaster ride. In the
short story The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell the story has many twist and turns that you
would not expect. The passage below best fits pace. But no animal can reason objected rainsford My
dear fellow, said the general, there is one that can.
But you can t mean Gasped rainsford.

his home. As time goes on, he is requested to go hunt or his life will be at stake. Another way the

Analysis Of The Coco Mademoiselle
Unspoken Words Through an Ad: Chanel, Coco Mademoiselle and Tommy Hilfiger, TH Bold
Wherever one looks barraged by an advertisement or marketing ads. Whether you are appreciating a
day of shopping or heading to work, promotions encompass you. It appears we never get a break from
this production. In addition, we see them so much we have developed resistance to their nearness.
There are numerous approaches to publicize an item, and ordinarily the similarities are self evident.
Analyzing commercials intently uncovers that paying little respect to the likenesses and contrasts in
notices, the primary motivation behind a promotion is to engage a specific group of onlookers.
Although both ads are selling fragrances, one is promoting a product for men and other is a promotion

Childhood Amnesia and the Beginnings of Memory for Four...
When we ask people to recall experiences, they rarely report memories dating from much before about
three years of age. For the purpose of this assessment I have chosen the Childhood Amnesia and the
Beginnings of Memory for Four Early Life Events conducted by JoNell A. Usher and Ulric Neisser,
published in 1993 in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: General. Therefore, in the following
paragraphs I will outline the aim of the study, the methodology and the overall findings.
The current research indicates that most of the early memories are of distressing experiences. It is
predicted that under certain conditions, children are able to recall painful and potentially harrowing
medical experiences, such as shots (Goodman, Rudy, Bottoms, ... Show more content on

Participants were aware of the background survey but they did not know that the experiment was
focused on memory.
In terms of the methodology, the investigators used a specific number of questionnaires per targeted
events. To assess the offset of childhood amnesia two main, broad, questionnaires were used. Each one
with subsequent, more relevant and event targeted, set of questions. Additionally, participants were
instructed to analyse the frequency and recency of their thoughts in relation to the target event using 4
point and 5 point scales. Furthermore, participants mothers were told to evaluate what their children
reported as childhood memories. In order to try to trigger their memory, researchers asked the
participants about external information sources , such as photographs, personal stories, etc. Even
though the researchers were allowed to select the participants and classify them into predefined
categories however, this approach faced a couple of limitations. First of all, participants could have
provided better responses if they were interviewed rather than asked to fill in questionnaires.
Moreover, the researchers could have triggered the participants memory better (without using pictures
or family stories; needless to say that preliminary results indicated that these

Stono Rebellion And The Security Act Of 1739
Stono Rebellion
On Sunday, September 9th, 1739 the British colony of South Carolina was shaken by a slave uprising
that culminated with the death of sixty people (Foster). This was one of the first major slave revolts in
which many slaves tried to escape to freedom. The fact that it was Sunday affected the timing of the
revolt. The promise of freedom that the Spanish made, contributed to the idea of rebellion. This
rebellion forced a negative compromise towards the slaves because all of the slave codes became even
more strict; even though there was no long term effect of the uprising. In 1739, the Stono Rebellion
created conflict between slaves and South Carolinian elite landowners which resulted in slaves being
forced to endure stricter slave codes.
First of all, the Stono Rebellion was led by an Angolan named Jemmy in South Carolina in 1739. This
uprising occurred because slaves in Southern South Carolina wanted to escape to freedom. The
enacting of the Security Act of 1739, the fact that it was a Sunday, and the malaria epidemic in the
Charlestown were three factors that influenced the timing of Stono Rebellion. The Security Act of
1739 required all white males to carry their firearms to church. Because most of the armed males went
to church (on sunday), they were not ready for a rebellion. Furthermore, the malaria epidemic had also
weakened many militiamen and regular men to the point of them not being able to fight or function
very well. Jemmy and his

of peace making. He shot them because the Land family was a nice calm family until Finch and Baska

Additionally when Finch and Baska are breaking into the Land family s house Ruben explains: Then

Treatment Of Recurrent Erythema Multiforme
Apremilast for Treatment of Recurrent Erythema Multiforme
Introduction
Recurrent erythema multiforme (EM) is an uncommon skin condition with unclear etiology
considered to be a hypersensitivity reaction presenting commonly in young adults with distinctive
targetoid skin lesions with or without mucosal lesions. These cases are typically treated with antiviral
therapies or immunosuppressive agents in more extreme cases. We present a case of recurrent EM in a
young adult that resolved completely after treatment with Otezla (apremilast), an oral medication
originally developed for the treatment of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.
Case report
A 21 year old African American female with a history of recurrent skin lesions on lips, tongue and soft
palate for over ten years. She was initially diagnosed at age 6 with Behcet s syndrome due to presence
of recurrent oral and genital ulcers as well as joint pain and swelling. She stated that she has about six
episodes per year with recurrence after treatment. For acute episodes, she was given treatment with
prednisone for management of oral and genital lesions, which has been used intermittently. She was
additionally treated with colchicine, dapsone and hydroxychloroquine with no response. It is unclear
when these treatments were administered or for what duration the patient adhered to these regimens.
Lesions resolved completely with no new lesions after one month of therapy on Otezla. There has not
been a recurrence for 4 months.

Effects Of Environmental Pollution On The Environment
Abstract
Pollutants are impacting aquatic organisms disposed by daily human activities and natural
occurrences. An extensive amount of pollutants such as pesticides, heavy metals, and hydrocarbons
can result in direct significant damage, e.g. death. However lower levels of these harmful substances
can be stored in an organism and increase as it continues and follows up the food chain, a process
called biomagnification or bioaccumulation, having the greatest effect on the top predator of that food
chain. A common result of the pollutants can lead to stress, changing of the immune system, inhibit
lysozyme activity, damage gills, metabolism, and growth. Other factors include an excessive amount
of nutrients in the environment. Nitrogen can make its way into aquatic ecosystems when there is an
increase in nitrous oxide in the air, allowing eutrophication. Algae and bacteria feed off the nitrogen,
so a high number of these organisms appear and use oxygen around them as the feed, causing hypoxic
zones, or dead zones. Acidification, an increase in the ecosystem s pH acidity from acid rain, which
occurs from an increase in CO2 from air pollution. Aquatic organisms have a range of tolerance, and
water with high acidic pH will lead the organism out of the range of tolerance, resulting in stress of
the organism, and eventually death. Further studies are being pursuited to see larger impacts of
globalized pollution on aquatic species and their ecosystems.

Television and Its Effects on Society Over the Past Decades
Since its first appearance in the 1950 s, television has revealed itself to be one of the world s most
influential mediums. Its entrance into the media scene has tossed other mediums, such as the radio and
print media, aside. With at least one television per household in Canada and with the average
Canadian watching about 22.6 hours of TV per week, families are absorbing a great deal of television
content; which includes the good and the bad. However, with the current selection of television

regular humans. The problem is that some mutants want to wipe out the normal human race, while the
X men are a group of mutants trying to exist as normal people do. In order to protect themselves and
normal humans from the evil mutants, they use their special mutant powers to engage in an ongoing
bitter battle, where the one with most powerful mutant defences comes out victorious. And, hence, the
battle between good and evil continues and only the strong will survive.
Unlike mature adults, young children s ability to pass rational judgement is not yet fully developed;
therefore, they are incapable of seeing that, unlike a mere window, television is able change the view
it presents. With the use of sound effects, computer enhancements, and other special effect techniques
television is able to convey any image it wants to portray. These effects are often used to create
grandeur images that incorporate a sense of realism in fictional programs. The effectiveness of these
techniques prevents children from being able to distinguish between what is real and what is only the

The Case Of Japan With Saigo Takamori
The world is full of government, each one with people who believe that it should be changed in order
to progress. This is the case of Japan with Saigo Takamori in 1877and Nazi Germany with Claus von
Stauffenberg in 1944. Both were respectable warriors who believed that the current government was
damaging their country s honor and a transformation was needed, and because of this they decided to
betray their countries. The difference between this to men comes to the origin of why they betrayed
their country, the society of the time, who they were against, and the aftermath of their actions. When
such factors are taken into consideration, Claus von Stauffenberg s actions of disloyalty for his
government for the greater good should be held in higher regard in public memory. Japan in at the end
of the nineteenth century was going through a change in government. The old system, the shogunate,
had been toppled by a group of intellectual, Saigo included, and the power returned to the Emperor.
Japan s new government was becoming starting to go through a process of westernization, and the
samurais were paying the price. In 1877 samurai stipends were eliminated and the carrying of
weapons prohibited. Saigo believed that the samurai class represented the epitome of honor and self
valor, so he decided to confront the government over their actions and on September 24, 1887 he died
in battle. Honor and courage were very important for Saigo, because of this he believed that a true

The Loss Of A Stroke
About three years ago my grandfather had a stroke. When we were at the hospital, the nurses told my
family that it was not a very serious stroke compared to how serious it could have become, and that
the likelihood of his recovery would be very promising. Seeing him in the hospital impacted me
greatly because my great grandfather died of a stroke. I was taken back by the paleness of my
grandfather s skin and his weak ability to talk or move his left side immediately after. Now he appears
to be able to function at almost the same rate he used to. I believe that having a stroke instilled a fear
in my grandfather that will forever change his attitude toward enjoying life and doing the things he
used to. Since his stroke, he refuses to hunt, fish, or do many of the tasks he was used to and instead
watches television and stays close to home. Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death and adult
disability in the U.S, (National Stroke Association). Stroke is known as, the death of nerve cells
caused by an interruption of blood flow to a region of the brain, (Goodenough, 138). When a section
of the brain is shut off, neurons cannot receive enough oxygen and glucose that they need and die. The
seriousness of the stroke depends on where the interruption of blood flow took place. The destruction
of neurons in certain regions of the brain can cause the, abilities controlled by that area of the brain
such as memory and muscle control are lost, (National Stroke Association). There

He coaches Kevin team in baseball and wants to be a better father than his dad. Also, he cares a lot about what other people think. In this movie Gil goes through a couple of stages dealing with his career, family, household and marriage. Gil is in his middle adulthood stage. According to Erikson developmental stage he is experiencing generativity versus stagnation. Generativity is when adults decide to leave positive legacies of themselves to the next generation. Stagnation is the negative side; individuals sense they have done little to nothing for the next generation. In Santrock (2016, p. 350), the characteristics of ... Being the father he is, he seen Kevin getting emotional and the other kids was making fun of his party. Gil dressed up as a cowboy and turned the party around. Which made Kevin trust in his father more. Also, In the movie Parenthood (1989), Gil says to his wife why is Kevin so high sprung, he is like a poodle and everything is blown out of proportion. Where do he get this obsession behavior? And his wife says sarcastically I wish I knew. This is an example of biological generativity. • 3. How Did Robespierre Influence The French Revolution Robespierre was hinting at a society based on virtue defining the political positon of a person set in a similar society of terror, an early communist like society. But the Convention greatly disagreed with him and agreed that he had begun to go insane with power, similarly to how Napoleon Bonaparte would for the following years militaristically. Consumed by the Revolution, Robespierre is then executed. Starting the war, Robespierre held a firm belief of sovereignty and equality, to form a republic, and was against the death penalty, viewing it as an excessive punishment. But, as the war progresses his ideology begins to change, favoring the use of the guillotine and leading a society of terror. Marat was an extreme radical of the French Revolution. The difference to the others was the fact that he was not part of any political group, but instead a powerful and influential advocator through the press. Through his writing, he called for war against the monarchy, death to any traitors, and declared anyone that did not support the National Assembly was not a true French citizen and labeled a counterrevolutionary. In voicing these things, the public became more motivated to fight for the cause and Marat became a saint among the people, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His stance in finding success through the death of more and more people was also held up by the ends justifying the means, if it meant bringing happiness to the people. His journalism would lead to people taking action and also resulting in the September Massacres in September 1792, where citizens stormed into prisons and killed the criminals held there, as well as royal guards, and other suspected citizens called out in his journalism. • 4. Human Impacts on the Environment Human Impacts on the Environment: Ocean Acidification Ecological human effects on the planet are now about 40% greater than the planet can support in a sustainable fashion (Grossman, 2010). One of the many areas with significant damage is the marine biosphere. Ocean acidification is a great threat to marine and subsequently human life. The pH level in the ocean has been a relatively constant 8.15 to 8.25 and organisms have evolved under these circumstances for over 50 million years. However since the end of the Industrial Revolution, worldwide burning of fossil fuels and human innovations such as concrete manufacture have resulted in the release of more than 440 billion metric tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Excess ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anthropogenic emissions over the past 200 years have caused ocean acidity levels to increase by 40 % (Ocean Studies Board, 2010). Without major intervention and significant reduction of the global carbon footprint this will result in severe and irreversible damage to ecosystems and organisms ocean wide. Phytoplankton is found in the surface area of the water and is the primary element of varied and elaborate food webs in the pelagic, (an area of open water away from shore and bed) and other marine systems. Phytoplankton is essential for the cycling of nutrients in these systems, and acidification has effects upon photosynthesis, nitrogen fixation and calcification. These processes are key for zooplankton and phytoplankton composition. Humans are provided with a variety of services from marine ecosystems, such as protection from erosion and coastal flooding, seafood, nutrient cycling and natural products. As acidification progresses, these precious assets are likely to disappear. Should we choose to, there is both the technology and the economic potential to ensure a discernible decrease in carbon dioxide emissions. This is a far preferable and effective alternative to suggestions of geoengineering, with many proposed strategies failing to address the root cause of acidification (Royal Society, 2005). The longer it is taken to find a combative strategy, the greater the legacy of environmental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. ##er Affect And Queer Temporality In Charlotte Bronte s... Both the scholarly community and the public alike recognize Jane Erye as a feminist classic, a bold social commentary penned by a daring woman intent on shedding light on the hypocrisy that riddled Victorian English society. Indeed, the rise of the character Jane Eyre from a suppressed and maltreated orphan to a woman capable of grasping at independence and whose husband needs her as much as, possibly even more, than she needs him, appears on the surface to be a tale meant to empower any female. However, there is a limit to how much light Charlotte Brontë deigns to shed, and its feeble rays fall short of a dank, gloomy, and locked room on the third floor of Thornfield Hall. In The Maniac Bellowed : Queer Affect and Queer Temporality in Charlotte Brontë s Jane Eyre , Carolyn Marjorie Davis asserts that the arms of Brontë s feminism do not embrace women who fail to fulfill certain standards of domesticity and femininity, namely, they do not embrace Bertha Mason, the mad and muscular, foreign and forgotten wife of Edward Rochester. Davis analyzes how the elements of queerness, in the form of gender nonconformity, in Bertha s character, as well as her ethnic background, make her intolerably other in relation to the gender conforming, Angelo Saxon characters, and claims that the incarceration and eventual death of Bertha represent Charlotte Brontë s own imperialistic and hegemonic prejudices. Imperial Reform in Britian from 1815 to 1870 Essay Imperial Reform in Britian from 1815 to 1870 The period 1815 to 1870 was characterized by radical change in the character of the British Empire, to the extent that, by the end of the period, the empire consisted of two distinct parts: one made up of dependent colonies, experiencing direct formal rule; and the other made up of self governing settlement colonies. This development occurred as a result of a series of social, political and economic reforms. In order to judge whether economic factors dominated imperial reform during this period, an assessment of the causes and nature of reforms is necessary. However, while imperial reform was multicausal, great weight can be given to the argument ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In turn, the abolitionist movement, consisting of humanitarian reformers, church missionaries etc exerted political pressure on government ministers, creating a climate in government circles which led directly to the passing of the abolition acts. Therefore, the first major imperial reform of the 19th century, the abolition of slavery, was primarily motivated by social and political factors, rather than merely economic ones. Nevertheless, underlying economic factors, such as the cost of the slave system in regions experiencing economic decline, as well as the economic advantages of industrialisation which caused the emergence of a new middle class with differing views, may have contributed to the change. Political reforms of the period focus mainly on the development of self government within the colonies of settlement. The granting of self government was sparked by an armed rebellion in Canada in 1837 following the failure of the British Governor to grant greater democracy, and the resulting emergence of an oppressed minority of French settlers of Lower Canada. The Canadian rebellion was a catalyst for political reforms, stemming from the 1839 Durham Report which reprimanded the British administration and called for the uniting of Upper and Lower Canada to form a single ... Creon Is The Tragic Hero Of Antigone One might think Antigone is the tragic hero of her own story, but as the audience read in The Burial at Thebes: A Version of Sophocles Antigone translated by Seamus Heaney, readers know that she is not the tragic hero and learn the King is. The story starts after Polyneices and Eteocles battled to the death. This Creon as next in line to take the crown. Creon buries Eteocles but leaves Polyneices body to rot. Antigone wants to bury Polyneices, as a result, he goes the Underworld. Based on Aristotle s definition, Creon is the tragic hero of Antigone because although he starts from a position of greatness, his tragic flaws lead to a catastrophe; he realizes the error of his ways, but it is too late to prevent the catastrophe; his downfall and suffering leave him humbled and enlightened. First, based on Aristotle s definition, Creon is the tragic hero of Antigone because although he starts from a position of greatness, his tragic flaw leads to Catastrophe. Creon says And I, as next of kin to those dead and doomed,/ I m next in line./ The throne has come to me (Heaney 15). This is the point where Creon says that he is king once again. That s how guilt/ Affects some people./ They Simply break/ and everything comes out./ But the barefaced ones./ The ones who defy you more when they re found out,/ They re worse again (Heaney 31). • 9. Role of the Mexican-American War in Bridging the Gap... ABOLITION TO SECESSION VIA MEXICAN AMERICAN WAR 1 The Mexican American War (1846 1848) marked a midpoint in U.S. history that bridged the gap between the abolitionist movement and the Civil War, which is not always recognized but is in some ways still with us today. Teacher Eric Burnett, for example, outlines a long list of catalysts leading up to the Civil War itself but omits the Mexican American war even though the Civil War catalysts go back through the 1840s all the way back to Eli Whitney inventing the Cotton Gin in 1793 (2010, n.p.). The Mexican American war, however, aggravated the division between the free, abolitionist North, and the pro slave South, where the abolitionist Northerners saw the U.S. annexation of Texas and the lands north of the Rio Grande after the decisive victory over Mexico, as an attempt by the slave states to extend slavery and enhance their power when additional slave states were created out of soon to be acquired Mexican lands (Encyclopaedia Britannica, 2012, n.p.). This re opened a conflict that had been lying dormant since the Missouri Compromise of 1820, where Missouri and any new states south of the Missouri border would enter the Union as slave states, but anything north of Missouri would enter as free states. This aggravated the political division that would result in the birth of the abolitionist Republican party, and cause the imbalance between the pro slave South, against the anti slavery North, that led directly to Jan. 1861 ... Thus, the term dagongmei symbolizes the subordination of female migrants, both as migrant workers under urban factory owners, and as women expected to work long hours, some sacrificing their education, in order to support their families. Pun articulates the very real struggles many dagongmei face, from the 1993 Shenzhen factory fire that killed over 80 migrant workers, all but two female, only then alerting China and the rest of the world of the human costs of China s rapid development to one woman, Yan, who screams in her sleep after years of work despite being in deep physical and emotional pain. Under Texas Law, the elements of tortious interference with an existing contract are: (1) an existing contract subject to interference, (2) a willful and intentional act of interference with the contract, (3) that proximately caused the plaintiff s injury, and (4) caused actual damages or loss. Prudential Ins. Co. of Am. v. Fin. Review Servs., Inc., 29 S.W.3d 74, 77 (Tex. 2000). If the other associate can prove proximate causation and actual damages, then Blake s tortious interference case will likely prevail in a Texas court since Blake s contract was an existing contract subject to interference and that Adam s interference had been willful and intentional. I. Blake s age does not bar him from entering a contract with WP that is subject to interference At the time of Adam s interference, Blake likely possessed an existing contract with WP that was subject to interference. Further, Blake s age has no bearings whatsoever with regards to validity of his contract with WP. Each of the elements of a valid contract are undisputedly present in Blake s agreement with WP: an offer, an acceptance in strict compliance with the offer s terms, a meeting of the minds, consent by both parties, and execution and delivery of the contract with the intent that it become mutual and binding on both parties. • 16. Analysis Of Gwen Harwood s Anthology Of Selected Poems The notion that ordinary, everyday experiences encompass universal emotions of both sadness and delight is central to Gwen Harwood s anthology of Selected Poems. This Australian poet often uses her personal journey towards self knowledge and experience of growing up to comment on universal aspects of raw, uncensored life experiences. She aims to convey the idea that motherhood is a difficult experience for many women who resent the way they are forced to abandon their individuality and careers. Harwood also illustrates the sadness in the loss of innocence and regrets in childhood. However, she also reminds the audience of the importance of celebrating the richness and vitality of human life such as the importance and power of women and parenthood. Ultimately the collection also suggests that aspects of both sadness and delight are evident in every human experience. Harwood s works challenge the patriarchal, societal view of motherhood as a role of delight, joy and fulfillment, revealing the hollow façade of meaningless that often comes with domestic suburban roles. She explores the role of women in her contemporary Australian society, criticising and challenging the expectations that women must be restricted to the domestic sphere in this patriarchal society. Harwood s graphic description and evocative imagery conveys the hopelessness of many women. Home of Mercy explores how females are dehumanized as the pregnant, unmarried girls have sinned in the eyes of society and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When all of the events in a story are falling into place and are climbing to its highest potential. Some stories have more of a suspense than others depending on what methods the author uses to display suspense. The first method of creating suspense in a story is the pace. Whether the pace of a story is slow or fast, it can help with the buildup of suspense. In some ways it is like a roller coaster ride. You may have a sigh of relief for that character in a certain situation, only to find out at the very next moment that they have come upon an even worse one, just like the up and down motions of a roller coaster ride. • 25. Stono Rebellion And The Security Act Of 1739 Stono Rebellion On Sunday, September 9th, 1739 the British colony of South Carolina was shaken by a slave uprising that culminated with the death of sixty people (Foster). This was one of the first major slave revolts in which many slaves tried to escape to freedom. The fact that it was Sunday affected the timing of the revolt. The promise of freedom that the Spanish made, contributed to the idea of rebellion. This rebellion forced a negative compromise towards the slaves because all of the slave codes became even more strict; even though there was no long term effect of the uprising. In 1739, the Stono Rebellion created conflict between slaves and South Carolinian elite landowners which resulted in slaves being forced to endure stricter slave codes. First of all, the Stono Rebellion was led by an Angolan named Jemmy in South Carolina in 1739. This uprising occurred because slaves in Southern South Carolina wanted to escape to freedom. The enacting of the Security Act of 1739, the fact that it was a Sunday, and the malaria epidemic in the Charlestown were three factors that influenced the timing of Stono Rebellion. The Security Act of 1739 required all white males to carry their firearms to church. Because most of the armed males went to church (on sunday), they were not ready for a rebellion. Furthermore, the malaria epidemic had also weakened many militiamen and regular men to the point of them not being able to fight or function very well. Jemmy and his ... • 32. Effects Of Environmental Pollution On The Environment Abstract Pollutants are impacting aquatic organisms disposed by daily human activities and natural occurrences. An extensive amount of pollutants such as pesticides, heavy metals, and hydrocarbons can result in direct significant damage, e.g. death. However lower levels of these harmful substances can be stored in an organism and increase as it continues and follows up the food chain, a process called biomagnification or bioaccumulation, having the greatest effect on the top predator of that food chain. A common result of the pollutants can lead to stress, changing of the immune system, inhibit lysozyme activity, damage gills, metabolism, and growth. Other factors include an excessive amount of nutrients in the environment. Nitrogen can make its way into aquatic ecosystems when there is an increase in nitrous oxide in the air, allowing eutrophication. Algae and bacteria feed off the nitrogen, so a high number of these organisms appear and use oxygen around them as the feed, causing hypoxic zones, or dead zones. Acidification, an increase in the ecosystem s pH acidity from acid rain, which occurs from an increase in CO2 from air pollution. Aquatic organisms have a range of tolerance, and water with high acidic pH will lead the organism out of the range of tolerance, resulting in stress of the organism, and eventually death. Further studies are being pursuited to see larger impacts of globalized pollution on aquatic species and their ecosystems. Keywords: Pollutants, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. The Case Of Japan With Saigo Takamori The world is full of government, each one with people who believe that it should be changed in order to progress. This is the case of Japan with Saigo Takamori in 1877and Nazi Germany with Claus von Stauffenberg in 1944. Both were respectable warriors who believed that the current government was damaging their country s honor and a transformation was needed, and because of this they decided to betray their countries. The difference between this to men comes to the origin of why they betrayed their country, the society of the time, who they were against, and the aftermath of their actions. When such factors are taken into consideration, Claus von Stauffenberg s actions of disloyalty for his government for the greater good should be held in higher regard in public memory. Japan in at the end of the nineteenth century was going through a change in government. I was taken back by the paleness of my grandfather s skin and his weak ability to talk or move his left side immediately after.
