Loss Of Innocence In Night By Elie Wiesel
In the memoir Night by Elie Wiesel, Wiesel illustrates sadistic memories of the Holocaust to convey
the lost of innocence of fifteen year old Eliezer to the readers. At a young age, many people encounter
traumatizing incidents that strip away their purity forever. For Eliezer, he will always remember the
German s deliberate brutality against the Jews on the concentration camps. His innocence deteriorates
as he witnesses several horrific moments that influenced his morals. Wiesel engages the reader with
powerful unforgettable moments in order to acheive his purpose. He wants to help readers come to a
greater understanding of the Holocaust and make them recognize their change in morals and lost of
innocence through troubling experiences they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the two gravediggers (Wiesel 99) is looking for dead Jews on the train to throw off, Eliezer s
father is not moving (Wiesel 99) as they approach him so Eliezer tries to wake him up screaming
Father! Father! Wake up. (Wiesel 99). However, his father does not wake up immediately aso he
proceed to hit him harder and harder (Wiesel 99) causing him to finally open his eyes. Wiesel uses the
strong connection of Eliezer and his father to portray the importance of family. He illustrates Eliezer
as a caring son who displays responsibility over his father. As parents age and begin to have
disabilities, it is a child s duty to look after them. In this case, Eliezer s father is old, but his disabilities
come from the terrible conditions of the concentration camps. Nevertheless, Eliezer shows solicitude
towards him. This powerful moment makes the reader think about the abundance of care many people
have for their family because they are in a tough situations. However, numberless people experience
difficult times with their family such as poverty and hunger and this causes them to lose their
righteousness because they want to live for themselves

90 Hairstyles

Hairstyles of the 90 s
In 1990 I was 13 years old. I remember that my hairstyle was as important as what I wore everyday. I
wore my hair up, all down, and in a half ponytail. When I wore it all down, I would crimp it with a
crimping tool or flat iron it with really big bangs, using a lot of hairspray. When I wore it up, I would
use a big, colorful, flashy scrunchie to put my hair into a ponytail. The ponytail would always be at
the very top of my head and very big. When I wore my hair half up and half down, I would also use a
big flashy scrunchie to put it in a half ponytail. With that, I would also make my bangs sticking
straight up with a lot of hairspray. I look back at old pictures of myself and think, wow, ... Show more

Not to mention, my brother also rocked a Mullet. I love those pictures of him. The Mullet hair is
shorter at front and longer at the back. The Beastie Boys song Mullet Head from 1994 became much
more popular once the Mullet hairstyle came into fashion. The Superman comics in the 90 s also
shows Superman in a Mullet haircut. Punk rock bands were mostly famous for Mullets, along with
many country singers, such as, Billy Ray Cyrus, Travis Tritt, and Joe Defoe. Sanjay Dutt, a Bollywood
actor also had a Mullet haircut during the 1990 s. The Afro hairstyle comes to mind when I think of
hair in the 90 s too. People with lengthy and kinky hair texture maintained a fashion with the Afro
hairstyle. The hairs are extended out from the scalp and are made in a round shape like that of a ball or
a cloud. Creams, gels and other liquids were used to give the shape to this Afro style of hair. Popular
in the 60 s, the Afro hairstyle came back in the 90 s again, but with various braids, twists and sizes.
NBA players, Kobe Bryant, Michael Beasley along with several musicians Ludacris, Wiz Khalifa,
Beyonce had the Afro style of hair in the 90 s. Next I will talk about the Frosted Tip hairstyle. The

Benefits Of Private School Education
How important is it for you to provide this for underprivileged students?
It s huge for me to help all kids, kids are our future if we give them all the tools they can do anything
they want in this world. For me, it s trying to put kids in the right situation, and give them the
opportunity to succeed in whatever field they choose.
Did you have many educational experiences such as the one that you re currently providing growing
up in SC?
I went to a private high school, my parents received help from a lot of anonymous donors that I m
truly grateful for. It s cool that I m in the position to help kids do the same thing that was given to me.
How was the educational system for you growing up before you went to private school?
It was rough, I went to public school up into seventh grade my parents felt like private school was
going to help me be a better leader so they stressed a private school education. It was a dramatic
change for me, but I needed it for college, and for after college.
What s the difference between Public and Private School?
It was different, in Public school you have everyone from your neighborhood, and the surrounding
neighborhoods, it was fun, but going to private school is different, you have all these types of kids
from all over Charleston that were all about their education. It was a huge change for me and it took
me a while to adjust, but looking back it was the best decision that I made.

Who Is The Protagonist In Finding Nemo
Finding Nemo Movie Review Finding Nemo is about the adventures of Nemo, a clown fish that
spends all his life with his father, Marlin. Marlin worries obsessively over his child because the little
fish is the only one that he has left. On Nemo s first day of school, Marlin makes careful
recommendations to his child that he should always stay with the class and keep off the deep water.
However, Nemo forgets the warning and ends up as a captive in an aquarium in Sydney. Marlin
bravely swims along the water flows to find his missing child, accompanied by Dory, a regal blue tang
that he comes across. After various adventures, Marlin succeeds in finding Nemo with the aid of Dory.
There are three main characters in the movie, including Marlin, Nemo, and Dory. However, to analyze
different aspects of parenting, Marlin and Nemo are the central characters that should be discussed. As

Firstly, the image making stage occurs when Marlin and his life elatedly imagine their life as parents
before Nemo comes into the world. Secondly, the nurturing stage happens when Marlin spends all of
his time with Nemo as he thinks his little child is too young to be independent. Thirdly, the authority
stage takes place when Marlin tries to warn his child against every possible danger by asking him to
obey a set of rules. Fourthly, the interpretive stage begins when Marlin realizes that he needs to reduce
the strict rules imposed on Nemo. Fifthly, the interdependent stage indicates the time when Marlin
changes his mindset and stops being an overprotective father. In particular, he gives Nemo more
freedom to do what he wants. Finally, the departure stage, which begins when children leave home
and start a new connection with their parents, is not precisely seen in the

Leo Africanus Accomplishments
Born in the Renaissance era as al Hassan ibn Muhammad al Wazzam, Leo Africanus came from
Granada, a city found at the bottom of the mountains in Andalusia, Spain. Even though he was not
technically raised here, this is the place that he always acknowledged and claimed to be his true city.
His name literally means the son of Muhammad the weigh master. Shortly after his birth, this city was
conquered by the Catholics, Isabella and Ferdinand. The once diverse city, where Muslims, Jews,
Christians, etc coexisted, became divided. The Kings apparently decided, around 1492, that they
would force the people (Muslims specifically according to the YouTube video) to convert to
Catholicism; if not they would have to leave Granada. Leo s family chose ... Show more content on

African Art, Religion And Rituals
Even though historians still struggle today to identify the true meaning of some African art; art,
religion and rituals relate in many ways because religion and rituals have been part of Africans
everyday life for centuries and art has been used as a communication path for religion and ritual
histories for future African generations.
From the earliest in time, Africans have used religion and rituals for many things. Many African tribes
or civilizations share many common core beliefs. The farmers used ceremonies to pray and dance for
rain, so crops would grow. Family members prayed for health and rituals to heal the sick as well as
funeral ceremonies to pray for safe passage to the afterlife. Nevertheless, scholars have suggested that

Moon Landing Persuasive Essay
The moon landing was an incredible feat of man. The first mission to the moon was on July 16, 1969.
Neil Armstrong, Edwin Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins were the first three astronauts to go onto the
moon. Some people think that the moon landing was faked. However, there is no possible way that the
moon landing could have been faked.
The moon landing was not faked because so many people were involved. First off, this because Joshua
Barajas from PBS said, an estimated 405,000 people involved. This proves my point because if the
moon landing was faked, this many people could not keep a secret for this long. If the moon landing
was faked, this should have been exposed in less than 10 years. Furthermore, Nixon Library says that,
An estimated 600 million people watched the moon landing. If this many people watched it, they
would have found out real proof that the moon landing is faked. Because of these reasons, the moon
landing could not have been faked. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Persuasive Essay On The 14th Amendment
The Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States is perhaps the most sweeping and
has likely impacted the general jurisprudence of the Supreme Court the most of any other amendment.
This is because, where all other right protecting amendments protect something specific, the
fourteenth amendment was designed to ensure that states guaranteed due process rights, applied the
law equally, and protected the privileges [and] immunities of citizens of the United States. Because of
this language, the Fourteenth Amendment appears to be and to some extent is simply the application
of the Fifth Amendment, and through selective incorporation, the rest of the Bill of Rights. To that
end, the Fourteenth Amendment possesses a fortuitous expansion to the simple due process right: the
right to equal protection of the laws. Laws that appear to violate the Equal Protection Clause thusly
receive the same kind of scrutiny that other fundamental rights are given. The Fourteenth Amendment
is relatively new compared to the Bill of Rights, having been passed in 1868. The first major case that
dealt with the amendment were the Slaughterhouse Cases in 1872. In those cases, a group of
slaughterhouses that were put out of business by a Louisiana law creating a monopoly claimed that
they were denied equal protection under the law. Though the court ultimately denied their claim
primarily on the basis that the Privileges and Immunities Clause does not apply to the states, they also

The Impact Of Victim Impact Statements On Sentencing From...
Assessment 4: Essay
1. Evaluate the use of Victim Impact Statements in sentencing from the perspective of victims and
offenders.
The Impact of victims of crime has long been considered to be overlooked when it comes to the
criminal justice system. It is common for victims of crime to feel powerless and without a voice in the
criminal justice system. However, since 1980 Australian victims have had the chance to be heard
through a document called a Victim Impact Statement, giving the victim a chance to tell the courts
about the effect that the crime has burdened on them individually, physically and emotionally as well
as their families and friends as a society.
According to the Australian Institute of Criminology (2016) A Victim Impact Statement (VIS) is a
statement about the impact that a crime has had on the victim, once an offender has been convicted
and is to be sentenced. A VIS can provide you with an opportunity to participate in the criminal justice
process by informing the court about the effects of the crime on you.
The criminal justice system aims to support victims and this has been a process that is forever
changing. With the introduction of the VIS it has proven to have a twofold effect. If the offender is
found guilty their sentences were usually made to be more severe. However, many offenders have
been found innocent as the VIS had no effect as the victim was perceived and seen as vindictive
(Bandes and Salerno, 2014).
The perception that the criminal

Models of Corrections Essay
The history of correctional thought and practice has been marked by enthusiasm for new approaches,
disillusionment with these approaches, and then substitution of yet other tactics (Clear 59). During the
mid 1900s, many changes came about for the system of corrections in America. Once a new idea goes
sour, a new one replaces it. Prisons shifted their focus from the punishment of offenders to the
rehabilitation of offenders, then to the reentry into society, and back to incarceration. As times and the
needs of the criminal justice system changed, new prison models were organized in hopes of lowering
the crime rates in America. The three major models of prisons that were developed were the medical,
model, the community model, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many criminals re offend after they are released because they were put back into society with no
money and no job and no place to live. Gradually allowing criminals to reenter society and helping
them to find jobs will put many on the right track. This program allows people a second chance and
the possibility to change their lives around. This program seems to be a necessity yet it will not work
for everyone. Not all criminals should be let out on the street again. Just because you give a murderer
a job and some money and secure them a place to stay, you have no idea whether they have the desire
to kill again . This program would work for those that were ready to reenter society and would be
extremely beneficial to those who have nothing on the outside to help them. The third aim at bettering
the system of corrections in America was the idea of the crime control model. The crime control
model was based on the assumption that criminal behavior can be controlled by more use of
incarceration and other forms of strict supervision (Clear 57). This new model was designed with the
intent to incarcerate prisoners for longer periods of time. Under this program the death penalty was
reinstated in thirty seven states. This model was thought to have worked best for violent offenders
such as drug dealers and murderers. It seems as though this program was created to scare people from
committing a crime because of the strict punishment that would occur.

1. The issue with Tonsillitis and the removal of my tonsils have been a very frustrating and elongating
issue for me until I really stepped away and looked at it from a different viewpoint. Being that I am
always wanting to be in control and also hate not being able to have the ability to do things without

and even depressed about it because I could not control what was happening. I had to rely on doctors

Looking at the situation, the obvious answer is to flunk the student, or not feed the beggar who has
nothing to give. But, if you look at the situation from another angle, you can look at it as an
opportunity for the instructor to truly do something and give the student something of true value. Also
this can be looked upon as an opportunity for the instructor display a true Zen moment. To do
something for someone who can do nothing for you, and has nothing to offer. The instructor could
truly enlighten the student and give them the opportunity to truly see the error in their ways and
provide them the chance to truly grow. Failing the student, or not feeding the beggar does not satisfy

My Prom Experience
It is almost time , my big sister said as we count down the days for prom. Prom was the only event I
was looking forward to during my senior year. The thought of dressing and dancing with friends

highlight of my senior year.
The week of prom was here and it terrified me. I was ready, but I did not know if my dress would
come in time or if my makeup artist would be late or even not show up. The first day of the week was
Monday, April 10, 2017, and it is the day the store finished making my dress. I arrived at the mall
around two in the afternoon to pick up the dress. When the lady saw me, she ran to the back and got
the dress. She brought out this ugly brown strip dress. I started screaming and kicking everything in
front of the door. I could not believe they got the wrong dress. The lady saw me screaming my lungs
out, so she went to get the manager. I told the manager that they gave me the wrong dress. He looked
at me and went to the back when he comes out with my dress. He told me there was a little confusion
because both dresses were in the same place.
The dress was a long silver with a spilled on the side and shiny pearls around the neck of the dress. I

The article The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time Was written by Mark Haddon. In this
article Mark Haddon explains how he came upon writing the novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in
the Night Time. He starts off by describing that the novel is based on a seemingly unlikely murder. He
then describes how the story is told from the perspective of a 15 year old boy named Christopher. The
thing that makes Christopher different from everyone else however, is that he is autistic. He is very
intelligent, and has a superbly logical brain which makes this novel unlike any other. Finally Mark
Haddon ends this article by giving a story behind his life and why he came about writing the novel. He
explains how he grew up working with autistic people and found it to be very intriguing. His purpose
behind publishing this novel was to inform people of what it is like to look through the eyes of a 15
year old autistic boy. In paragraph 2 of the article The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time

With this limited sort of resection the residual mid septal bulge still redirects flow posteriorly: SAM
persists because flow still gets behind the mitral valve. It is only when the deeper portion of the septal

With this in mind, a modification of the Morrow myectomy termed extended myectomy, mobilization

Reflective Essay On Hispanic Food
When first beginning this assignment, I thought of choosing Vietnamese food because I miss having
Vietnamese food for most of my meals, which was a luxury when I lived at home with my parents.
Also, I have not fully prepared a Vietnamese dish or meal myself, as cooking never appealed to me.
However, as I thought more about it, I would just be returning to the comforts of what I had already
known instead of challenging myself and expanding my experiences. Eventually, I decided to pursue
learning more about the Hispanic food culture because I greatly enjoy Hispanic food, whether it is

Lumbar Case Studies
SSDI and Lumbar Spinal Stenosis Lumbar spinal stenosis is what occurs when the nerves in the
lumbar area of the spine (the lower back) are pinched. Sciatica, which is the common term for pain in
the legs due to a compressed nerve, can be caused by lumbar stenosis. It is mostly caused by
degeneration of the facet joints, or the joints between vertebrae, in the lumbar area, which expand and
press against the spine and choke it, hence the term stenosis, which comes from the Greek word for
choking. The condition occurs mostly in older people, as aging is the most common risk factor for
degeneration of facet joints. However, younger people with other spinal conditions may also be at risk
for developing lumbar stenosis. Symptoms of lumbar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay on Christianity to Japan
Christianity In Japan
Japan has been a home for Shinto and Buddhist religions for centuries. The Christian missionaries
during the 16th, 19th and 20th centuries worked hard to evangelize the Japanese nation but could not
get desired success. There efforts in past failed partly due to sanctions imposed by the local rulers. The
Jesuits missionaries traveled with Spanish and Portuguese traders to many areas of America and Asia
Pacific and established their churches and religious missions. They were funded, sponsored and
trained by their respective governments in order to spread Christianity. At several places they preached
the Christian faith by force but the aboriginal population did not accept it wholeheartedly. Initially the

Malacca he met a Japanese rebel, Anjiro who urged him to visit Japan. Xavier went to Japan with two
other missionaries and started his mission. He confronted some problems because of the language
barrier. The Kodansha s Encyclopedia of Japan describes Xavier s arrival in Japan as, In 1547 he met
in Malacca a Japanese fugitive named Anjiro, whose glowing account of his naive country fired
Xavier with enthusiasm to evangelize Japan. Xavier reached Kagoshima with two Jesuit companions
on 15 August 1549, and with Anjiro as his less than adequate interpreter, he preached Christianity and
compiled a simple catechism, with the result that about 100 people accepted baptism. A year after his
arrival Xavier visited Hirado and Yamaguchi, but wishing to obtain permission to preach throughout
Japan, he made his way to Kyoto in an unsuccessful bid to meet Emperor Gonara. He left Japan for
India at the end of 1551 .
The activities of missionaries were generally supported by the local landlords and rulers who wanted
to get monetary benefits from the foreigners. The main centers where the missionaries were settled
include Kyushu, Nagasaki and Honshu. The religion of Jesus was initially taught to ordinary masses
however, by 1563 Omura Sumitada, a daimyo (regional military lord) was converted to the new faith.

Children Should Be Mandatory For Children
In 1998 Andrew Wakefield released a paper linking the MMR vaccine to autism. This article caused
panic among parents, leaving a trail of unvaccinated children. This trail eventually lead to a
nationwide outbreak of the measles virus. This is the worst outbreak the US has seen since 1994. Even
though Wakefield s publication has been discredited, there are still parents that choose not to protect
their children because of his study. These children not being vaccinated is hurting our nation by
lowering our herd immunity. It should be mandatory for children to receive vaccines. Children should
be vaccinated because the research is conclusive that vaccines do not cause autism, children benefit
from the vaccines, and help protect others who cannot be medically vaccinated. According to Tafuri,
Martinelli , Prato and Germinario (2011) the anti vaccination movement was started by Andrew
Wakefield in 1998. Wakefield published a paper in the Lancet of a study he conducted of twenty
patients. This published study determined that autism and some forms of colitis were caused by the
MMR vaccine (pg.1). Despite the fact the study has been discredited by medical professionals, and
retracted by the Lancet, parents are still choosing not to vaccinate their children based on these
falsified reports. Newer research reported by CNN as published by the British medical journal

An Analysis of William Carlos Williams Poem, The Young...
An Analysis of William Carlos Williams Poem, The Young Housewife
In this poem, Williams uses a series of images to capture a fleeting moment in time, an emotion of
admiration and desire. The poem consists of three stanzas of varying length, and each share in a
similar method in portraying the woman and the narrator s relationship with her. Each stanza starts out
with somewhat broad statements about the scene, and as they each progress, they become more
specific until the image is pinned down to a specific moment in time. After reading the poem the
reader is left with three separate images, which describe the emotion/admiration felt by the narrator
for the woman.
Williams in the first stanza gives the reader a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here again the time of day comes into play, as most everyone has a mental image of what the lighting
is like at about that time. Before one gets prepared for the day, after waking up, I imagine the curtains
pulled and stillness in the house. Here the poet is describing a moment that many of us have shared at
one time or another, making his proper word choice essential in not being too specific but at the same
time allowing details to filter through. It is the details that connate imagery in the reader, while it is the
simplicity that allows for individual interpretation.
In the second stanza the poet introduces the woman to the outside world. As she comes to the curb to
call the ice man,[and] fish man , she is still not fully clothed as she is, uncorseted, tucking in stray
ends of hair. This description tells more about her personality as her attire may help to explain her
shyness.
It is here where the author compares her to a fallen leaf. This could mean any number of things. A
fallen leaf is free from the rest of the tree, whether broken away because of the season s change or
from a gust of wind, the leaf has fallen and begins a stage of deterioration, as it is forever severed
from the life giving resources of the tree. While the idea of a fallen leaf is somewhat tragic, it is
nonetheless a necessary phase in the life of

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings Research Paper
The most important lesson that I learned this year was about self acceptance, more specifically
accepting myself for who I am and not being ashamed of my cultural background. The main two texts
that I felt expressed this lesson the most was the autobiography I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings
written by Maya Angelou and the graphic novel American Born Chinese written by Gene Luen Yang.
In I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Angelou describes her life as she goes through a life changing

event that happened in her life would be her middle school graduation. When the graduation speaker,

The Basilica Of The Assumption Of Our Lady Of Valencia
Art, the way that many cultures have expressed their ideals and culture through out time. Many artists
from multiple cultures have arisen and created masterpieces of art: Everything from paintings, to
massive architecture, and statues. The massive piece of art I will be focusing on today will be the
Basilica of the Assumption of our Lady of Valencia or The Valencia Cathedral for short. This massive
architecture shows a compelling example of Gothic art during this era.
The cathedral first came to be after the Christian s re conquered Valencia back from the Arab
communities, who had conquered it from the Spaniards in 723 C.E. While under the Moors (Arab
Empire) control the old church that stood there became a mosque. After the Spanish acquired Valencia
back, the bishop of Valencia ruled the mosque was to be replaced for a Basilica. This was to
strengthen the support for the Christian religion and to recruit more people to the church. This effort
was made to rekindle and bring piece of mind to the people in the region who stayed while the Moors
soldiers ruled. So in 1238 C.E. the Valencia Cathedral was born. As gothic style of art swept Europe,
the pope at the time decided to adopt this style of art. As the book Art: A Brief History states, By the
middle thirteenth century builders had thoroughly mastered the design principles and building
technology of Gothic architecture and began to focus attention on elaborating and refining the visual
elements of the style.

Gucci s Use Of Gender Roles In Advertising
Gender roles have been a part of society since the beginning of society itself. Men are supposed to be
bigger, stronger, smarter, they should go out and support their family. Women are meant to fragile and
they should stay at home to raise the children. Though this idea is not as present as it once was, and
many people, especially women, continue to step away from that idea, it is still present especially in
advertising. Gucci s 2011 advertisement for their Guilty cologne is no exception to this. The
advertisement features Chris Evans, known for his roles in the Captain America films, and Evan
Rachel Wood, known for her roles in Westworld. The two stand naked against a black background.
The cologne bottle is pictured in the bottom right corner of the image. The title is above their heads in
bold white letters and says Gucci Guilty: Pour Homme. They use these gender roles, and other
common societal ideas to convey their message that the use of the cologne will not only make it s
target audience more attractive but it will spice up their life and get them pretty women. Chris Evans
is the first thing that the audience sees when looking at the given advertisement. He represents the role
of men in society perfectly. His piercing blue eyes provide a stark contrast with the rest of the image.

I don t completely disagree with the above fact, but yes I was completely shocked when I received that

about why meditation is important in this article.

The word Meditate came from the Latin word meditātus (to engage in thought or contemplation;
reflect)
Meditation carries a rich history with it. You can find its roots up to 1500 BCE. Most of the early
scriptures indicate that meditation came from the Hindu tradition of Vedantism.
Do Meditation Relates To Religion?
This is the most common question asked by the people; Do meditation has any roots with religion, the
answer is N0. It doesn t. It just a part of purifying your heart and soul from the negativity it received
outside the world, and helping you to connect with your soul.
So what is Meditation?
I will not go through any definition or explanation; I will write what I experienced and what helps me,
so in my way Meditation is the process which helps us to connect with our soul. It s a process to
eliminate our negative thoughts; expand our thinking about life, a ray of hope in the darkness, and
nectar for a dying soul.

Women in today s society are faced with various obstacles. When a disability is included, the struggles
that are dealt become more enormous. Although, there are many resources available, women with
disabilities face higher poverty rates compounded with different forms of discrimination as well.
Living with a disability changes the life of a person. These people are looked down upon because they
are perceived to be different. Being different from normal people becomes an obstacle that is very
difficult for people with a disability to handle. This begins as small forms of abuse and will eventually

abused by someone they know, such as a partner, or family member. Furthermore, disabled women
face the risk of abuse by their caregivers or health care providers. An example is that the caregiver can

Violence against women in Canada is a complex social issue. The rates of violence against women

Heller s Use of Satire Within the Characters of Catch-22...
It is frequently said that the novel Catch 22 by Joseph Heller is about Heller s opinion on war and lack
of patriotism. Although it is understandable how one could grasp those concepts from the novel the
main crux of the novel is for the reader to have noticed Heller s use of satire within the characters.
Also to be effected by Yosarrian s evolution. Heller uses satire to portray his outlook on war but also
other aspects in society. The other aspects are value of life, misuse of power, women and the inhuman
bureaucracy of the military structure as a whole.
Heller first does this by satirizing religion when colonel Cathcart wants to become a general and uses

Descriptive Essay On The Fire
Footsteps
Many years ago, on August 15th, 1733, a small, unnamed town was nearly submerged in scorching
hot flames. A man named Louis James Tacha was one of the civilians that was killed by the fire. Louis
tried to help other people who have been swept away by the fire near the swinging bridge. The sleeve
of his white, long shirt sparked with a flame which engulfed the rest of his body within seconds. He
frantically tried to escape the snare of the fire, but his attempts failed. He decided to jump into a rocky,
fast moving river as his last attempt to survive. Louis James Tacha s body was never found. Some say
his spirit still lurks around the swinging bridge to make others disappear into the river to symbolize
how quickly someone can be forgotten. The few survivors of the fire gave the name, Burnside, to the
town to remember the event that took place on that cool summer night.
Today, August 12th, 1983, is a big day for thirteen year old, Marcie Goupil, as she goes to an all girls
summer camp in Burnside, Tennessee, for her first time. Marcie is aroused with excitement as she
places her last few shirts into her over filled duffle bag. As Marcie and her dad pull up to the camp,
she sees large, dull looking trees with pointy branches, and leaves that started to change colors, just

  • 3. 90 Hairstyles Elizabeth Brooks 01/04/15 Hairstyles of the 90 s In 1990 I was 13 years old. I remember that my hairstyle was as important as what I wore everyday. I wore my hair up, all down, and in a half ponytail. When I wore it all down, I would crimp it with a crimping tool or flat iron it with really big bangs, using a lot of hairspray. When I wore it up, I would use a big, colorful, flashy scrunchie to put my hair into a ponytail. The ponytail would always be at the very top of my head and very big. However, there is no possible way that the moon landing could have been faked. The moon landing was not faked because so many people were involved. First off, this because Joshua Barajas from PBS said, an estimated 405,000 people involved. This proves my point because if the moon landing was faked, this many people could not keep a secret for this long. If the moon landing was faked, this should have been exposed in less than 10 years. • 10. Persuasive Essay On The 14th Amendment The Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States is perhaps the most sweeping and has likely impacted the general jurisprudence of the Supreme Court the most of any other amendment. This is because, where all other right protecting amendments protect something specific, the fourteenth amendment was designed to ensure that states guaranteed due process rights, applied the law equally, and protected the privileges [and] immunities of citizens of the United States. Because of this language, the Fourteenth Amendment appears to be and to some extent is simply the application of the Fifth Amendment, and through selective incorporation, the rest of the Bill of Rights. To that end, the Fourteenth Amendment possesses a fortuitous expansion to the simple due process right: the right to equal protection of the laws. Laws that appear to violate the Equal Protection Clause thusly receive the same kind of scrutiny that other fundamental rights are given. The Fourteenth Amendment is relatively new compared to the Bill of Rights, having been passed in 1868. The first major case that dealt with the amendment were the Slaughterhouse Cases in 1872. In those cases, a group of slaughterhouses that were put out of business by a Louisiana law creating a monopoly claimed that they were denied equal protection under the law. Though the court ultimately denied their claim primarily on the basis that the Privileges and Immunities Clause does not apply to the states, they also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Impact Of Victim Impact Statements On Sentencing From... Assessment 4: Essay 1. Evaluate the use of Victim Impact Statements in sentencing from the perspective of victims and offenders. The Impact of victims of crime has long been considered to be overlooked when it comes to the criminal justice system. It is common for victims of crime to feel powerless and without a voice in the criminal justice system. However, since 1980 Australian victims have had the chance to be heard through a document called a Victim Impact Statement, giving the victim a chance to tell the courts about the effect that the crime has burdened on them individually, physically and emotionally as well as their families and friends as a society. According to the Australian Institute of Criminology (2016) A Victim Impact Statement (VIS) is a statement about the impact that a crime has had on the victim, once an offender has been convicted and is to be sentenced. A VIS can provide you with an opportunity to participate in the criminal justice process by informing the court about the effects of the crime on you. The criminal justice system aims to support victims and this has been a process that is forever changing. With the introduction of the VIS it has proven to have a twofold effect. If the offender is found guilty their sentences were usually made to be more severe. However, many offenders have been found innocent as the VIS had no effect as the victim was perceived and seen as vindictive (Bandes and Salerno, 2014). The perception that the criminal ... Models of Corrections Essay The history of correctional thought and practice has been marked by enthusiasm for new approaches, disillusionment with these approaches, and then substitution of yet other tactics (Clear 59). During the mid 1900s, many changes came about for the system of corrections in America. Once a new idea goes sour, a new one replaces it. Prisons shifted their focus from the punishment of offenders to the rehabilitation of offenders, then to the reentry into society, and back to incarceration. As times and the needs of the criminal justice system changed, new prison models were organized in hopes of lowering the crime rates in America. The three major models of prisons that were developed were the medical, model, the community model, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many criminals re offend after they are released because they were put back into society with no money and no job and no place to live. Gradually allowing criminals to reenter society and helping them to find jobs will put many on the right track. This program allows people a second chance and the possibility to change their lives around. This program seems to be a necessity yet it will not work for everyone. Not all criminals should be let out on the street again. Just because you give a murderer a job and some money and secure them a place to stay, you have no idea whether they have the desire to kill again . This program would work for those that were ready to reenter society and would be extremely beneficial to those who have nothing on the outside to help them. The third aim at bettering the system of corrections in America was the idea of the crime control model. The crime control model was based on the assumption that criminal behavior can be controlled by more use of incarceration and other forms of strict supervision (Clear 57). This new model was designed with the intent to incarcerate prisoners for longer periods of time. Under this program the death penalty was reinstated in thirty seven states. This model was thought to have worked best for violent offenders such as drug dealers and murderers. It seems as though this program was created to scare people from committing a crime because of the strict punishment that would occur. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Kodansha s Encyclopedia of Japan describes Xavier s arrival in Japan as, In 1547 he met in Malacca a Japanese fugitive named Anjiro, whose glowing account of his naive country fired Xavier with enthusiasm to evangelize Japan. Xavier reached Kagoshima with two Jesuit companions on 15 August 1549, and with Anjiro as his less than adequate interpreter, he preached Christianity and compiled a simple catechism, with the result that about 100 people accepted baptism. • 28. Children Should Be Mandatory For Children In 1998 Andrew Wakefield released a paper linking the MMR vaccine to autism. This article caused panic among parents, leaving a trail of unvaccinated children. This trail eventually lead to a nationwide outbreak of the measles virus. This is the worst outbreak the US has seen since 1994. Even though Wakefield s publication has been discredited, there are still parents that choose not to protect their children because of his study. These children not being vaccinated is hurting our nation by lowering our herd immunity. It should be mandatory for children to receive vaccines. Children should be vaccinated because the research is conclusive that vaccines do not cause autism, children benefit from the vaccines, and help protect others who cannot be medically vaccinated. According to Tafuri, Martinelli , Prato and Germinario (2011) the anti vaccination movement was started by Andrew Wakefield in 1998. Wakefield published a paper in the Lancet of a study he conducted of twenty patients. This published study determined that autism and some forms of colitis were caused by the MMR vaccine (pg.1). Despite the fact the study has been discredited by medical professionals, and retracted by the Lancet, parents are still choosing not to vaccinate their children based on these falsified reports. An Analysis of William Carlos Williams Poem, The Young Housewife In this poem, Williams uses a series of images to capture a fleeting moment in time, an emotion of admiration and desire. The poem consists of three stanzas of varying length, and each share in a similar method in portraying the woman and the narrator s relationship with her. Each stanza starts out with somewhat broad statements about the scene, and as they each progress, they become more specific until the image is pinned down to a specific moment in time. After reading the poem the reader is left with three separate images, which describe the emotion/admiration felt by the narrator for the woman. Williams in the first stanza gives the reader a ... Before one gets prepared for the day, after waking up, I imagine the curtains pulled and stillness in the house. Here the poet is describing a moment that many of us have shared at one time or another, making his proper word choice essential in not being too specific but at the same time allowing details to filter through. It is the details that connate imagery in the reader, while it is the simplicity that allows for individual interpretation. In the second stanza the poet introduces the woman to the outside world. As she comes to the curb to call the ice man,[and] fish man , she is still not fully clothed as she is, uncorseted, tucking in stray ends of hair. This description tells more about her personality as her attire may help to explain her shyness. It is here where the author compares her to a fallen leaf. This could mean any number of things. • 32. The Basilica Of The Assumption Of Our Lady Of Valencia Art, the way that many cultures have expressed their ideals and culture through out time. Many artists from multiple cultures have arisen and created masterpieces of art: Everything from paintings, to massive architecture, and statues. The massive piece of art I will be focusing on today will be the Basilica of the Assumption of our Lady of Valencia or The Valencia Cathedral for short. This massive architecture shows a compelling example of Gothic art during this era. The cathedral first came to be after the Christian s re conquered Valencia back from the Arab communities, who had conquered it from the Spaniards in 723 C.E. While under the Moors (Arab Empire) control the old church that stood there became a mosque. After the Spanish acquired Valencia back, the bishop of Valencia ruled the mosque was to be replaced for a Basilica. This was to strengthen the support for the Christian religion and to recruit more people to the church. This effort was made to rekindle and bring piece of mind to the people in the region who stayed while the Moors soldiers ruled. So in 1238 C.E. the Valencia Cathedral was born. As gothic style of art swept Europe, the pope at the time decided to adopt this style of art. As the book Art: A Brief History states, By the middle thirteenth century builders had thoroughly mastered the design principles and building technology of Gothic architecture and began to focus attention on elaborating and refining the visual elements of the style. ...
