Personal Statement On Personal Finance
Knowledge about personal finance is not always common knowledge and although money touches
most modern homes, most parents don t teach their kids about money either. It can be hard to find time
in a busy schedule to figure out when and how to adjust your time to set up a proper budget so instead
you just decide to live pay check to paycheck because it got your parents by and now it gets you by
and that has just always worked. One day you have to grow up and realize that those consequences of
being financially stupid will come back to haunt you.
Introduction
The biggest issue that individuals have with their personal income is the lack of understanding where
and how to control their spending habits and sometimes when to pay bills. This causes a great deal of
anxiety, stress, depression, unkempt hygiene and possibly even losing the very job that is keeping their
income flowing in to start with. With couples, the number one cause of relationship issues that are
brought in front of a therapist and the number one cause of divorce just so happens to be financially
related. The hardest yet most important thing to do when it comes to your finances, it to stop getting
overwhelmed and take control back of your money and your life. Most people don t know where to
start when it comes to taking control of their finances. When I think of the short term aspect of
personal finances, I think of the here the now and the coming few months, maybe even up to a year. If

Vivian Mair Research Paper
The photo messes with my mind.
The reflections of the windowed glass company, layered and dimensional, make me question what
plane each object occupies.
And then there s the image taker, the nanny who lived a clandestine life as a street photographer. She s
a woman whose now
heralded work went undiscovered for decades. A woman about whom an Oscar nominated
documentary has been produced.
Her name is Vivian Maier.
And in this photographed moment at Glass Co., one captured by the Rolleiflex held at her chest, she
looks phantasmal. Reflected

For decades Maier captured interesting photographs of ordinary people, with a secret curiosity for

But it wasn t until 2007, two years before her death, that Maier s work began to develop a reputation.
In her old age, she had failed

The lockers were emptied and their contents auctioned off.
John Maloof, a real estate agent searching for old time photos for a book he was writing, bought a box

Modest Mussorgsky
During the first half of the 19th century, opera was in it s golden age. Composers sought to capture
drama, emotion, and personalities, creating a closer connection with their audience. With this, they
also began to reflect on the concerns of a broad audience; love and loyalty to family and/or nation,
women s desire for independence, struggle for freedom, fear of evil. This want to appeal to the
population sparked the theme of national identity, which came to be known as Nationalism. The
French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars helped spread the concept of a nation as a group of citizens
with a common heritage, rather than as subjects of a ruler. Influence of this idea grew throughout the
19th century. Nationalism unified the people through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Immigrants from Europe, Latin America, Asia, and former African American slaves and their
descendants, brought their own musical traditions from folk to classical. Ethnic divisions were the
distinctions between classical, popular, and folk music. These three categories represented different
attitudes toward notation, composition, and performance. Classical tradition centered on the composer
and the work, and required intricate notation of the score. Popular music was written down and sold as
a commodity, but centered on the performer and the performance, allowing for leeway in the notated
music. Folk music was independent of musical notation, being passed on through oral tradition.
Overall, these three categories often overlapped. Folk tunes were written down and sold as popular
music, arranged for concert performance, or incorporated into classical pieces; classical works were
transcribed and altered for performance in popular venues; and some popular songs became so well
known that they were then passed down orally, like folk

The Collapse Of The Minoan
One may ask, who are the Minoans? Well they are considered by many Historians and Archeologists
to be the first great European Civilization. Some people believed that this was the mythical land of
Atlantis. They were located near the Aegean Sea and lands such as Greece, Troy and Asia Minor. One
interesting fact is that these people never called themselves the Minoans. There wasn t any name listed
in the history books for these people but the Ancient Crete Civilization. They were known as the Crete
Civilization because they lived on the island of Crete which is now part of Greece. It wasn t until a
19th century British Archeologist, Sir Author Evans gave them the name, The Minoans. He gave them
this name because he believed he had found the legendary palace of King Minos. There has been
many civilization collapses over the World s history, but most can be explained in great detail. There
are some that are very mysterious and not definitively explained. The collapse of the Minoan people
happens to be one of those mysterious collapses which ranks 3rd in the top ten most mysterious
collapses of the world and is still to this day debated on what actually caused their demise. There are
many factors that go into the collapse of a civilization, but this kind of catastrophe doesn t just happen
in a blink of an eye this is something that happens over a long period of time. This paper will touch on

History Of The Clarinet Essay
The clarinet is a woodwind instrament consisting of a cylindrical wood, metal, or ebonite pipe with a
bell shaped opening at one end and a mouthpiece at the other end, to which a thin reed is attached. The
clarinet has five different sections, the mouthpiece, the barrel, the upper section, the lower section, and
the bell. The length of the entire instrument is 60 cm long. The mouthpiece section consists of a
slotted cylinder, to which a reed is attached by a metal clamp called a ligature. The mouthpiece plugs
into the next section which is a barrel. The barrel is simply a connecting cylinder to which the
mouthpiece and the upper section plugs into. The upper section is a cylindrical pipe consisting of 4
holes and 9 keys placed in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By the mid eighteenth century, the five key clarinet became standard. In 1844, the clarinet was further
revised into what we know of it today.
Around the beginning of the eighteenth century, a German instrument maker, Johann Christoff Denner
invented the clarinet by improving the chalumeau. He did this by doubling the length of the
chalumeau and adding two keys. The clarinet slowly acquired more keys during the eighteenth
century. By 1750 the five key clarinet was the standard. In 1844, two french musicians, Louis
Augustine Buffet and Hyacinthe Klosé made the most significant improvement in the instruments
history. They applied the Boehm flute key system to the clarinet. This was done by placing each hole
in different places so that each note would have the same tone quality. Then, they devised a key
system that would cover all the holes. The improvements were a success, and the newly revised
instrument became popular all over the world.
The clarinet produces sound when air passes over the reed. The reed then vibrates, causing the flowing
air to vibrate, thus producing sound. The air then exits the nearest opening. The farther the air travels
before exiting, the deeper and lower the note will be. To produce a wide variety of notes, the clarinet
has many keys and holes. Pressing different combinations of keys will result in different notes.
Since the clarinet is a very

The Importance Of Race In The Film Slumdog Millionaire
If you can do nothing else, do whatever is in your power to make the people in your life feel
completely unashamed of who they are (Killermann). As times change and our society continues to
evolve, the importance of human rights and acceptance are constantly emphasized. Through the
movie, Slumdog Millionaire directed by Danny Boyle I learned about discrimination relating to social
class. Additionally, in the song, Small Town Boy by Bronski Beat, I learned about how gay individuals
may be judged by society. Through further analyzing and exploring these texts, I could seek real life
examples of how human rights can be violated. These texts prove that we must move away from the
deep rooted issue of discrimination and learn to accept, love, and celebrate our differences not only as
individuals but as a society.
In Danny Boyle s movie, Slumdog Millionaire , the use of pathos allows readers to understand how
discrimination relating to social class is a real issue. The movie follows the life of a Muslim boy
named Jamal, living in a Hindu environment. Jamal decides to participate in an Indian game show and
has made it to the final round that could win himself one million dollars. As the audience settles down
and the question is announced, the game show host turns to Jamal and says, Do the right thing in
approximately three minutes and you will be as famous as me. And as rich as me. Almost (Boyle).

Narrative Essay About Duck Camp
Initially, when I first visited Tarleton State University, all I saw was men wearing cowboy hats, jeans,
and boots, but as I walked around campus more with my dad, I started to see more diversity within the
students on campus. As my dad and I walked around campus looking like we don t belong, a girl
pointed us in the right direction to find Heritage. We spoke to a residential leader who kindly showed
us around the dorm and told us how amazing the campus is. From that second forward, I had started to
fall in love with Tarleton. Orientation soon approached and introduced me to Duck Camp. When I
originally heard what Duck camp was about, teaching the heritage and traditions of Tarleton, I was
exhilarated to leave that second to learn, socialize, and start my transition from high school to college.
Before Duck Camp arrived, one of my TTMs, Wacey Horton, sent me a text saying he will be my
daddy duck for Duck Camp one. To be completely honest, I was a little weirded out when I saw him
say daddy duck but it made me laugh and all the more excited for Duck Camp. Wacey made my Duck
Camp experience something I will never forget for the rest of my life; he made it fun, introduced all of
us to new people, established friendships between all of us, and has brought me entirely out of my
shell I had enclosed myself in during high school. Wacey taught me how to have more confidence, to
have real school spirit, and how to yell my lungs out like me life depended on it. Thanks to an

Harlem Renaissance Book Report
In the New World, the Negros have had their fair share in being moved from place to place. In the
1920s , African Americans moved to Harlem, New York to start a new life for themselves. Harlem
became a place where Negros felt free from the segregated South and had liberties to explore their
artistic abilities. This movement was known as the Great Migration and although it appears this was a
major step for African Americans, there was still a lot of work to be done. The North had their targeted
issues with their new neighbors and voiced it as well. It was an imperative part of the United States
when the Harlem Renaissance came about because it created diversity in artistic culture. The Harlem
Renaissance brought people of different ethnicities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
African Americans were portrayed by whites, who would entertain audiences in black face. While the
depiction of blacks was highly demeaning, it opened the door to African American performers, and by
the late 1800s, a number of them were playing to full houses. By the 1920s, the Jazz Age was in full
swing, allowing black musicians and composers to reach wider audiences. And in the thirties, musicals
such as George Gershwin s Porgy and Bess and Eubie Blake s Swing It opened the door a little wider.
As the years passed, black performers continued to gain ground. In the 1940s, Broadway productions
of Cabin in the Sky, Carmen Jones, and St. Louis Woman enabled African Americans to demonstrate a
fuller range of talents, and Paul Robeson reached national prominence in his awarding winning
portrayal of Othello. By the 1950s and 60s, more black actors―including Ruby Dee, Ossie Davis, and
Sidney Poitier―had found their voices on stage, and black playwrights and directors had begun to
make their marks.
Black Broadway provides an entertaining, poignant history of a Broadway of which few are aware. By
focusing a spotlight on both performers long forgotten and on those whom we still hold dear, this
unique book offers a story well worth

The Connection Theories And Why I Am My Friend s Dad
It was a Friday night with a clear dark sky and birds tweeting all around. I was sitting outside on the
balcony scrolling through my twitter timeline when I landed on a twitter thread. A twitter thread is a
set of tweets that a person tweets consecutively to inform, satirize, persuade or amuse the reader.
These threads tend to be about anything and everything and they ve become my favorite part of going
on the app itself. Some examples I ve seen before range from How I slept with my best friend s dad to
How I achieved a 4.0 . The one I landed upon that night was about conspiracy theories and seeing as
the thread was long, I went back inside, got comfy and began reading. The thread started with the
Mandela effect which seemed pretty intense then it went on to the famous 9/11 theory. The one that
caught my eye was Denver International Airport theory. This had me shook that the airport 20 minutes
away from me is considered hell. It s actually so creepy a chill runs down my spine writing about it.
When I first read the theory, I googled it and learned the basics.
So the day of the assignment it was the first thing that came to mind, and it made it much easier that I
can actually drive to the airport and uncover it myself. I hope you re ready but here it goes. The
Denver International Airport is deemed to be one of the daunting places on earth. It s believed that the
airport is a new world order command bunkers with underground tunnels. Tunnels? Why? I ran to

The Safety Of A Food Supply
The stability of a food supply is often the most important thing a society can offer to its people.
However, in a changing global environment filled with bacteria, viruses, and disease, scientists and
farmers have continually tried to find ways to make food safer for consumers. The normal way
currently is to use pesticides and preservatives to keep diseases at bay and keep food from going bad
and possibly causing harm to those who eat it. Some researchers, however, are still looking for safer
and more effective ways to preserve food, and the idea of food irradiation has been around since the
early 1900 s. Anything involving radiation often scared consumers and makes them not trust the
quality of the food, because they do not believe that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The FDA greatly expanded the use of food irradiation in the year 1986, even though it was already
used for things such as wheat, flour, and potatoes. Before this time, radiation was thought of in food
terms as an additive, not a process the food must go through. In fact, by 1988, some nineteen major
countries had laws in place that allowed for certain foods to be irradiated to help better preserve them.
The world is beginning to realize this form of preservation as a viable option, and the only thing left is
for the consumer and the government to decide whether or not this should be a commonly used
method.
Food irradiation has many variables that make it exactly what it is. There are different types of
irradiation that work on different types of food, and accomplish different tasks such as sterilization,
disease prevention, or even acting as an insect repellent. The thing that truly defines the different
types, however, is the type of radiation used. The most effective types include electron beam radiation,
gamma ray radiation, and x ray radiation. Electron beam radiation is the shortest in terms of time
needed to irradiate the food, but it also does not penetrate very deep, only about half a centimeter. This
type of ray radiation is used to merely disinfect things like wheat and some grains. Gamma ray
radiation is the use of Cobalt 60 in most places to irradiate the food. In fact, this type of radiation can
penetrate up to six inches.

Final Project Lady Macbeth
Macbeth Final Project Living in a world where even nature is at war with itself is challenging, and
only the bravest, good hearted people will emerge triumphant. The play Macbeth is a tragedy written
by William Shakespeare and takes place in eleventh century Scotland. Featuring a plot full of twists
and turns engages readers throughout the play. Even when the main character, Macbeth, is enticed to
commit a treacherous deed which causes a chain of murders and deceptions eventually leading to
Macbeth s unsightly demise, suspense is not lost. It is a masterpiece giving insight into human nature
and temptation, proving that only the characters who remain true to themselves will escape unscathed

After receiving a prophecy from the witches the he will be king, Macbeth is excited to share the news
with his beloved wife. Both of them, alone, started plotting King Duncan s murder. Lady Macbeth
seems better prepared to wear this mask, and hide her true intents than Macbeth does. Since Macbeth
is seemingly incapable of facing Duncan without their plan written across his face, Lady Macbeth
encourages him to Look like th innocent flower, but be the serpent under t (I, v, 56). It is almost as if
Shakespeare wanted Macbeth to be portrayed as an actor, having to put on this mask, and deliver a
convincing performance of trust and loyalty. This is evident because even though Macbeth openly
expresses his distaste in Duncan s murder when he tells Lady Macbeth We will proceed no further in
this business (I, vii, 32) he still ends up killing Duncan. Wearing this mask has taken its toll on
Macbeth. His mind and body were opposed to the deed; which is shown to the readers when Macbeth
sees a floating dagger. Perhaps hinting that his sanity is not intact. However, after it is done, Macbeth
changes and starts molding himself to fit the mask he wears, accepting murder, and moving forward
with his life. Masking intentions does not have to be for evil means. Malcolm masks himself in order
to test Macduff, and by doing this he gains a friend and ally, rather than a crown and subjects. So
while masking one s intentions can yield bountiful rewards, it can also pull them towards the path of
evil, for there is no yellow brick road to get lost on in this world of

Effects Of Parental Investment On Children
Parental investment includes any investment by the parent in an individual offspring that increases the
offspring s chances of survival, at the cost of the parent s ability to invest in other offspring (Travier,
1972). Since investing on themselves is as important as investing on their children, parents have to
choose between caring for a child and acquiring the resources needed to insure their own productive
and reproductive successes (Turner McAndrew, 2006). This choice can be influenced by the social,
cultural and economic factors at household level, and by socio demographic factors at individual level.
These factors may vary from culture to culture and overtime. However, the following variables are the
most frequently cited determinants of parental investment on children.
i) Gender; the gender of the parent is the most widely reported determinant of parent`s willingness to
invest on children. This is mentioned across disciplines, from biology through social anthropology,
with similar conclusions but different explanations. There is consensus that the gender identity of the
parent through which income is received determines how the resources are invested on child welfare.
Studies (Agarwal, 1997; Kabeer, 2000) indicated that income injected into the household through the
mother do more justice to the welfare of children compared to resources injected through the father.
Similarly, an exogenous increase in mothers income has a larger effect on children`s outcomes than

Pearl Harbor Essay
Pearl Harbor
Was the attack of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 really a surprise? How secret is secret in a
country where years of censorship have trained an inquisitive, alert population in the discreet whisper
and the fine art of putting two and two together? And how secret is secret when one s ideas are no
longer exclusively one s own? (At Dawn We Slept, Prange 30) The tragic attack of Pearl Harbor on
December 7, 1941 has many events connected to it that lead people to believe that it was no surprise
to the United States government. The attack marked the entrance of Japan into World War II on the
side of Germany and Italy, and the entrance of the United States on the allied side. (Microsoft

information from one source filled out, clarified, or confirmed interceptions from another. It is hardly
surprising that for some people the question has become, not Did we know? but How could we not

eavesdropping on Japanese government communications. Roosevelt s military leaders called it a
spledid arrangement (Stinnett 60) Now if that is true and the United States knew all about what the
Japanese were doing then why wouldn t they have known about the attack on Pearl Harbor? And not
only that, but why would the President of the United States not want to warn his own country of an
attack that would harm his nation and kill thousands? Even though Roosevelt tried to deny it, the radio
taps America had on Japan were flawless. Altogether it was an exceptional effort of extraordinary
scope of achievement, and for years it had kept American officials aware of every intention and
activity of the Japanese government. (Stinnett 60)

The characters represent many things for the Bronies, such as honesty, kindness, generosity, and
loyalty thus giving much comfort to these flummoxed men. Since the ponies all depict a specific
character trait, the Bronies are able to picture themselves through the ponies. For typification, a young
man with Aspergers named Daniel can see himself through one of the stars of the show: Twilight
Sparkle. This pony is very intelligent, organized, kind, serious and anxious he saw himself in that
character. He felt a connection to that specific animated character. For people who have this
syndrome, it makes it much more difficult to interact in social situations, causing them to become
socially awkward. Instead of helping his condition, the cartoon impedes his condition. By projecting
¨themselves on another¨, the bronies are able to adopt ¨someone else´s value system¨ and thus, are able
to hide their inability to make an identity for one s self (Rochat, 729) and (Fleming, 9 11 ). There are
several Bronies worldwide who are in the same position Daniel is using the mechanism of
¨foreclosure¨ to cope with their identity crisis. This method allows for people to ¨assume an identity of
convenience¨ in order to ¨suppress the anxiety¨ that comes from the role confusion (Fleming, 9 11). By
doing so, the Bronies can achieve a temporary identity and detain any further physiological

The Garden By William Makepeace Thackeray Analysis
The garden straddles the border between the public and the private, the social and the personal, and
the city and the country. It is both man made, yet natural; both intimate, yet open. Hence, the garden,
as a place of such contradictions, becomes a space for William Makepeace Thackeray to facilitate
characters contemplation, pushing the engagement with the dichotomy between nostalgia and
progress.
It is in the Royal Gardens at Vauxhall where William Dobbin s intense desire for Amelia begins to
slowly manifest. As she wanders through the paths of the garden with George Osborne, he becomes
distracted by her, ignoring the gardens that surround him:
[A]nd as he saw that good looking couple, threading the walks to the girl s delight and wonder, he
watched her artless happiness with a sort of fatherly pleasure. Perhaps he felt that he would have liked
to have something on his own arm besides a shawl [...] And the truth is, that of all the delights of the
Gardens; [...] Captain William Dobbin did not take the slightest notice. (Thackeray 63)
This passage, set in a very social engagement it is the evening of an expected proposal sees Dobbin
caught in a moment of disengagement of a private longing for Amelia. Thackeray teases Dobbin s
desires by suggesting that [p]erhaps he felt that he would have liked to have something on his own
arm besides a shawl and going into a lengthy list of all the delights of the Gardens which he ignores
(63). Dobbin, in a sense, becomes withdrawn

The Impact Of Safety On The Oil Industry
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The concept of safety in the oil industry is of much importance during
offshore drilling procedures and cannot be exempted or compromised in any way that seems to deviate
from offshore safety culture in the Outer continental shelf. Offshore Safety regulations encompass all
forms of procedures that have been designed to promote safety culture in the industry as well as the
preservation of lives and property. Industry as well as Government regulations have been in place for
some time to help provide operators with guidelines to during their various drilling operations in the
Outer Continental Shelf (OCS).. Since huge amount of capital is pumped into oil production on a daily
basis and to ensure maximum returns, better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This then becomes a lesson learned and recommendations are put in place with the aim of avoiding a
similar future disaster. These Fundamental changes are crucial to a successful operations with
accidents reduced to the barest minimum. On April 20, 2010 BP s Macondo well that was being
drilled in the Gulf of Mexico experienced a blowout and lasted for about 87 days and became a
memorable event in the history of the Oil industry and mankind as a whole. The 87 day nightmare did
massive damage to lives and properties, the water body in which the well was drilled and the marine
life that resides in it. This resulted in federal lawsuits and fines ranging into billions of dollars. Per the
Buffalo report delivered by the Department of interior on May 27, 2010, a failed cement job coupled
with inexperienced personnel were the central cause of this horrible Oil industry disaster. The
regulations that existed before this incident as well as how these regulations have been impacted by
the blowout will be the main focus of this report. Also to be discussed at length will be any challenges
that have been faced by Safety regulators faced during the implementation of these regulations.

A useful example is retail banking or the work of building societies. Here the operations have to be
standardized, not only in all branches of the same bank but also between competing banks, so that
customers find the system easy to deal with. The work of bank clerks and, in a different way, bank
managers requires knowledge, skill and accuracy, but it must be carried out strictly in accordance with
the rules and there is little scope for individuality apart from one s manner in talking with customers
and manual dexterity in counting banknote. Bureaucracy provides scope for economies of scale and
extensive specialization at the expense of flexibility and product innovation. Their predictability
provides a secure environment for the employee and a clear line of safe career progression.

The matrix structure
As the entrepreneurial and bureaucratic structures have such obvious drawbacks, a third general mode
has been evolved and used IV some situations: the matrix. The method is simply to overlay a second
set of hierarchical connections over a first, but at right angles to it. This was first developed in the
American aerospace industry because of government demands for a single project manager who
would be responsible for the progress of each government contract and to whom government officials
could channel all their queries and instruction. Companies

Analysis Of Mrs Warrens Profession
The play Mrs. Warrens Profession by George Bernard Shaw is about a well educated young woman
named Vivie who lives just outside of London. She was raised in a drastically different manner than
her mother. Vivie in fact did not know her mother very well and even grew up away at prestigious
schools away from her mother s care. Vivie was well educated, has a degree in math, and plans to get
a job in London. The play is centered on the discussion between Vivie and Mrs. Warren about the
morality about Mrs. Warren s profession as a sex worker. Although the play is called Mrs. Warrens
profession, the play is mostly about the ways that Vivie s interactions with her mother change her. The
play opens with Vivie sitting on her porch and being informed that her mother is coming from London
to visit her. Vivie s upbringing was different from her mother in such a drastic way and it calls into
question the morality of the decisions that Mrs. Warren made in her earlier years. Mrs. Warren had to
make a decision in her earlier years that was morally wrong for most but she made it because her
morals were outweighed by the circumstances in which she was in. Shaw was known to be interested
in socialism and would write his works to reflect the views he wished to push into society. The play
Mrs. Warrens Profession has many tones of morality involved in the text. The discussions and
decisions of the characters in the play are all about the morality based on each individual s

Before Night Falls
In the novel, Before Night Falls by Reinaldo Arenas who lived from 1943 to 1990, the author conveys
many subjects and captures the reader to the full extent. Reinaldo Arenas, the author and the person
who lived the experience writes this book for us in hopes of capturing our feelings and sympathy of
the Cuban Revolution. Arenas wrote over twenty books, including ten novels and numerous short
stories and poems. Arenas was not the only writer affected though as he states that, All the literature of
this century is somewhat burdened by the theme of uprootedness, (Arenas, 36) which means every
piece of literature surrounded the system of being exiled or the fear of being caught or doing wrong

The book opens to the succulent, splendor forest, full of vivid emotion and color where Arenas started
the beginning of his life in Oriente Province, Cuba. The setting is one of poverty, but the natural world
around him seemed to be beautiful and dazzling. Arenas shows this by saying, The splendor of my
childhood was unique because of its absolute poverty and absolute freedom surrounded by trees,
animals, and people who are indifferent towards me (Arenas 332). This quote foreshadows the rest of
the story in that Reinaldo soon faces indifference from other people because he is unique and is doing
something a different way . Also, this quotation points out the wonderful time he had as a child where
there seemed to be opportunity, before Fidel Castro came into power restricting most rights.
Furthermore, Arenas was free as a child and was uplifted by the cognitive nature of opportunity, but as
he got older the setting started to change and dreams were tarnished and opportunity was thrown away
by political interference. Reinaldo Arenas childhood was the only time of happiness and immaculacy
and throughout the rest of the story Arenas is on a desperate search for enchantment in his once short
lived paradise. As Arenas states in the book, These, to be sure, were farfetched hopes, hopes born of
despair, but hope is, after all, mostly for the desperate (Arenas 260). This quote purely gives an edge
to Arenas personality, saying that he,

The suffragists were different from the suffragettes because the suffragists used moderate and peaceful
methods to get through their argument but the suffragettes thought that the suffragists idea was
working too slowly so they wanted to be completely opposite to them so they used militant methods.
The suffragettes believed in Deeds Not Words and especially when they knew that the Liberal

Banded Iron Formation Essay
Banded Iron Formations and evolution of the atmosphere
The time between the formation of the earth and the beginning of the Cambrian(about 570mya) is a
4000 my long period known as the Precambrian, this includes approximately 90% of geological time
of which we know very little about as pre Cambrian rocks are poorly exposed, many have been eroded
or metamorphosed and fossils are seldom found.
The Precambrian has been divided into 3 Eons: 1.Hadean (4600 3800 mya of which there is no rock
record) 2.Archean 3800 2500 mya) 3.Proterozoic 2500 570 mya.

These deposits of marine hematite and quartz represent a precipitation of dissolved iron from sea
water as the dissolved oxygen content of the water increased. After 1800 mya, Banded iron formations
are rare, but terrestrial red beds are common for the first time suggesting that iron is being oxidised
and precipitated in soils and rocks on land in the source area of sediments instead of being dissolved
and carried into the oceans in its unoxidised form. Thus, it has been reasoned that the BIF red bed
transition marks the rise of atmospheric oxygen. Complimentary information comes from detrital
uraninite in Archean and earliest Proterozoic alluvial rocks. Because this uranium mineral can survive
prolonged transport only in media containing little or no oxygen, the lack of detrital uraninite deposits
younger than 2300 ma also points towards a significant environmental transition (Roscoe,1969).
Not all scientists have accepted the validity of these observations or of their interpretation, Dimroth
and Kimberley(1976) argued that at least some red beds antedate the end of BIF deposition, that
Archean granites have paleoweathering profiles indicative of oxic environments, and that oxidised
sulphur minerals (sulphates) occur in some of the oldest known sedimentary successions. All of these
observations are correct, and we must ask whether they

Since adolescent brain has the ability to change in response to the environment by modifying the

many staff members who make such visitations possible. To start of there can be officers that are in

Essay on Women and Consumer Behaviour
Women and Consumer Behaviour
INTRODUCTION
Consumer behaviour can be defined as the acts of individuals directly involved in obtaining and using
economic and services, including the decision process that precede and determine these acts. (Engel et

Buyer behaviour refers to the acts of individuals directly involved in the exchange of money for
economic goods and services and the decision process that determined these act. (Engel et al, 1968, p

Both consumer and buyer behaviour differ amongst the population as people have different wants and

In each society, the culture of that society has a functional purpose. It provides values, beliefs,
attitudes, and behaviours that facilitate human interaction. The culture of a working woman will be
very different from that of a non working female.
Spiro, R.L studies show that Strodtbect, I. L. found cultural differences with respect to the roles of
females were related to differences in decision making. This is because both groups will have different
beliefs and attitudes due to the way they have been nurtured.
Social
In a materialist society economic well being much determines what social class you are in. If this was
the case, than working women would be in a much higher class than non working. However focusing
primarily on income fails to recognise the differences in spending of disposal income characteristics of
social classes. For example a teacher who earns the same as a truck driver will spend their money in
distinctly different ways, the service and goods will not be the same. (Runyon, K.E 1980). Working
women may spend their money on socialising i.e. with friends etc. whereas a non working woman
may have children and therefore spend much money on the family
Social class differences are variations in life styles, in values, interpersonal attitudes and self
perception. These differences influence consumer behaviour, shopping patterns, and effective
communications.
Therefore marketing practitioners should understand that

To make kymographs, the movies are resliced and then 8 pixel thick sections are Z projected, using
the maximum intensity setting. Because the width of Aplysia neurons are typically x mm, this
typically generates 5 to 10 kymographs for a given axon. A line is then drawn down the center of the
kymograph on the time axis, and the velocity and direction of each mitochondrion that crosses the line
is measured. For each axon, the flux and average velocity in each direction is determined. For each
condition, the measurements for individual axons are averaged.
To determine if mitochondrial transport increases when neurons are grown under conditions where
synapses form, we measured mitochondrial flux and transport velocity for Aplysia sensory neurons
grown alone and in co culture with L7 motor neurons. In sensory neurons, we found the average flux

Compare And Contrast Rose Red And Haunting Of Hill House
The movie Rose Red and the book Haunting of Hill House have a lot of things in common. In the
beginning of the Haunting of Hill House or somewhere in the book they would talk about the rocks
falling on the momś house. Just like in the beginning and in the end of the movie Rose Red Annie
would make the rocks fall on the house because she was mad. In the beginning the dog bit Annie and
second she was mad at the ghosts. like how the house keeps on growing until the current person that
owns the house says that it s complete or otherwise it will keep on growing and killing people, eating
the people that have powers or take control of them. Then the house forces the person to kill their

Theodora but in the end they hate each . The other character that relates to Joyce is Doctor Montague
not because they were both scientists but because they wanted to test out there theory to see if the

A Survey On Data Mining Classification Algorithms
A Survey on Data Mining Classification Algorithms
Abstract: Classification is one of the most familiar data mining technique and model finding process
that is used for transmission the data into different classes according to particular condition. Further
the classification is used to forecast group relationship for precise data instance. It is generally
construct models that are used to predict potential statistics trends. The major objective of machine
data is to perfectly predict the class for each record. This article focuses on a survey on different
classification techniques that are mostly used in data mining.
Keywords: Data mining, Classification, decision tree, neural network.

Classification contains finding rules that partition the data into disjoint groups patterns and process.
The goal of classification is to evaluate the input data to develop a precise. Explanation or model for
each class using the features by using the present data.
2. ARCHITECTURE OF DATA MINING
Data mining and knowledge discovery is the name frequently used to refer to a very interdisciplinary
field, which consists of using methods of several research areas to extract knowledge from real world
datasets. There is a distinction between the terms data mining and knowledge discovery which seems
to have been introduced by [Fayyad et al.1996].the term data mining refers to the core step of a
broader process, called knowledge discovery in database. Architecture of data mining structure is
defined the following figure.
3. DATA MINING PROCESS
 Data cleaning
 Data integration
 Data selection
 Data transformation
 Pattern evaluation
 Knowledge presentation.
Data cleaning: Data cleaning or data scrubbing is the process of detecting as well as correcting (or
removing) inaccurate data from a record set. It handles noisy data it represents random error in
attribute values. In very large dataset noise can come in many shapes and forms. And irrelevant data
handles the missing and unnecessary data in the source file.
Data integration: Data integration process contains the data from multiple sources.

Ku Klux Klan In The 1920s
Imagine living in a society in which friends, relatives, and neighbors were killed and discriminated
against the color of their skin. Where did they go wrong? They were human. This was the life of
African Americans, Asians, Catholics, Jews, and immigrants during the revival of the Ku Klux Klan in
the 1920s. The Klan is classified as the largest white supremacy group in the United States during the
1920s. The Ku Klux Klan played a large role in racial identity and the history of the United States.
The first wave of the Ku Klux Klan organizers ended in the 1870s due to the passage of federal
legislation. Many years later, there was a national resurgence, it was the birth of a new nation. The Ku
Klux Klan was no longer existence until William J. Simmons. The founder of the second Ku Klux

Joyce Meyer How To Respond To Conflict Summary
How to Respond to Conflict Joyce Meyer once said, A positive attitude gives you power over your
circumstances instead of your circumstances having power over you . Throughout times people have
proven that positive thinking will help resolve a conflict. It is good to remain positive to eventually
receive a good outcome. When a conflict arises the best way to deal with it is to keep a positive
attitude. Many argue that a fight will quickly end a problem but problem but a good example that that
is false is the story of Black Ships before Troy.In black ships before Troy they use war to solve their
problems.people think that it won t really matter what attitude is presented in a problem. Many would
argue that the one side of the argument doesn t care about the attitude about the other person/side.. ...

Barnes And Noble Case Summary
After analyzing the Barnes and Noble Inc. financial statement, I found out that the financial of this
company is declining. The management creates a business plan that includes new innovative and
creative ideas to attract customers, and increase their finance. Barnes and Noble seems to run the risk
to have its equity decrease, by looking at the income statements we could determine a net income
decrease of $24,446 in a year period. After analyzing this I realized that Barnes and Noble might be

They could focus on the creation of innovative products and services. They have to create a more
competitive business plan. These business plan most include advertising strategies, innovative
products, and a risk management plan. One idea that I could recommend them is to focus more on
reopening their coffee stores, but with a different strategies even though this might be extremely risky.
The reason they closed the coffee stores at first was because they did not have a successful demand,
and business like Starbucks took over their business. When Starbucks first open their business they
came with the same idea as Barnes and Noble, the idea of having a coffee while taking a time to relax.
Unlike Barnes and Nobel, Starbucks offered a quieter atmosphere where there were not too many
people trying to read a book, buy a book, find an item, so people started to up out for a more convince
option for them. Starbucks gives people a faster service and it less crowded. In conclusion, the
financial statement of Barnes and Nobel does not look promising and it looks like they might be

Children Should Not Receive Scheduled Vaccinations
Children are a vulnerable group within a population with respect to diseases, which then increases
their susceptibility to various illnesses, as adults generally have a stronger immune system as
compared to children. Steens, Beasley, Tsui, and Lee (1975) argued that children are more prone to be
a carrier of diseases than adults (as cited in Anderson and May, 1985). With that being said, the focus
remains on vaccinating children as the majority are in school for a great amount of time where they
are in proximity of one another, the continuous sharing of items, and are usually inconsistent with
hand hygiene. Under those circumstances, Anderson and May (1985) found that in children aged 5 15
infection rates would increase as a result of close contact within schools. Children who do not receive
scheduled vaccinations put themselves, as well as others at risk for vaccine preventable diseases, as
infants who are too young of age to receive vaccines, children, elderly, and community members who
have compromised immune systems most vulnerable to acquiring vaccine preventable diseases. Omer,
Salmon, Orenstein, DeHart, Halsey (2009) argued that outbreaks of diseases regularly begins with
individuals who refuse vaccinations, as it spreads within communities and other populations.
Combining these factors, there is a high possibility of outbreaks in schools of life threatening illnesses
such as measles, mumps, and polio that unfortunately has taken many lives retrospectively. For

Southwest Calder Valley North Of Lochwinnoch
1. Introduction
Since1970, Muirshiel Country Park has been part of Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park which is situated
in the River Calder Valley north of Lochwinnoch. The park is an area of general natural beauty with
beautiful landscapes and great scenic views but people are allowed to live and work within the area. It
may look remote but it has a purpose for human activity, as in the past the land has been used as a
farm situated close to the current entrance, for field sports such as grouse shooting and more recently
for barytes mining. The mine closed in 1969, just before the opening of the country park. (Clyde
Muirshiel Park Authority [CMPA from now on], n.d.) The current use of the park is mainly
recreational, with a small network of footpaths for walkers, cyclists, and educational groups. Other
land uses include forestry, field sports, and small scale agriculture. For this assignment we are
imagining that a gold bearing ore outcrops on Windy Hill just to the north of the country park.
The vein extends below the hill summit to an unknown depth and can be traced horizontally across the
landscape for at least a kilometre on either side of Windy Hill. The scope of this assignment is to
identify and evaluate the environmental impacts of building a gold mining site in this area and how
this might affect the local geology, landscape, ecology, hydrology, and overall biodiversity.

How Does George Orwell Use Propaganda In Animal Farm
Animal Farm, by George Orwell, is an allegoric novel based on the history of the Soviet Union and
the Russian Revolution (1917 to 1944) disguised as an animal fable. Orwell draws his audience into a
utopian, metaphorical history novel through his animal characters. Squealer represents intelligence
and education; Napoleon represents propaganda and duplicity; The dogs to represent violence and
terror as a means of control; and finally Boxer represents apathy and acceptance. Throughout each of
the characters stories, there are themes of the Soviet Union intertwined. The pigs represents
intelligence and education, particularly Squealer as he is able to manipulate others and control
information. The use of intelligence and education is a tool ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Analysis Of Holden Uses Defense Mechanisms
Jenny Jung Mrs. Kehrmeyer AP Language, Period 1 08 March 2017 Consequently, Holden uses
defense mechanisms, as a means of preventing anxiety that would result from conscious awareness of
disturbing impulses, wishes, or ideas arising from the id, (Nevid 471). Nevid explains that according
to Freudian theory, defense mechanisms reside in the unconscious part of the human brain because if
people were conscious of every single problem, people wouldn t be able to function. Therefore,
Holden is subconsciously utilizing defense mechanisms in order to shield himself from confronting his
problems. One major defense mechanism present in Holden s behavior is denial. Holden s resides in
an ivory tower, reluctant to accept that he s actually hurt. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Nevid clarifies, Though defense mechanisms may be a normal process of adjusting to the
unreasonable demands of the id, they can give rise to abnormal behavior, (471). Although defense
mechanisms can help put off a certain problem for some time, relying on defense mechanisms is not
always beneficial because it gives people reasons to act irrationally. This clarification of Freud s
theory is strongly portrayed in Holden s exaggerated view of reality. His denial triggers delusional
fantasies in Holden s mind that he doesn t seem to think deeply about. For example, when one rash
thought entered into Holden s mind, he delivers an ultimatum to Sally, saying, ...Tomorrow morning
we could drive up to Massachusetts and Vermont...We ll stay in cabin camps until the dough runs out.
Then, when the dough runs out, I could get a job somewhere, and we could live somewhere with a
brook and all and, later on, we could get married or something, (Salinger 132). At the age of sixteen,
as if it s not unrealistic enough, he tries to persuade Sally. When Sally gives him a reality check, he
practically rages at her. Holden is so blinded by the fantasy world he created for himself and his
defense mechanisms were giving Holden an excuse to acting abnormally. As a result, he blames Sally
for the unreasonable idea he proposed, calling her a royal pain in the ass, (133). This irrational
behavior of Holden is exactly what Freud is illustrating in his theory of personality that

Assembly Language
ASSEMBLY LANGUAGE
An assembly language is a low level programming language for a computer, microcontroller, or other
programmable device, in which each statement corresponds to a single machine code instruction. Each
assembly language is specific to a particular computer architecture, in contrast to most high level
programming languages, which are generally portable across multiple systems.
Assembly language is converted into executable machine code by a utility program referred to as an
assembler; the conversion process is referred to as assembly, or assembling the code.
Assembly language uses a mnemonic to represent each low level machine operation or opcode. Some
opcodes require one or more operands as part of the instruction, and most ... Show more content on

The popular arcade game NBA Jam (1993) is another example. Assembly language has long been the
primary development language for many popular home computers of the 1980s and 1990s (such as the
Sinclair ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Commodore Amiga, and Atari ST). This was in large part
because BASIC dialects on these systems offered insufficient execution speed, as well as insufficient
facilities to take full advantage of the available hardware on these systems. Some systems, most
notably the Amiga, even have IDEs with highly advanced debugging and macro facilities, such as the
freeware ASM One assembler, comparable to that of Microsoft Visual Studio facilities (ASM One
predates Microsoft Visual Studio).
The Assembler for the VIC 20 was written by Don French and published by French Silk. At 1,639
bytes in length, its author believes it is the smallest symbolic assembler ever written. The assembler
supported the usual symbolic addressing and the definition of character strings or hex strings. It also
allowed address expressions which could be combined with addition, subtraction, multiplication,
division, logical AND, logical OR, and exponentiation operators.
COMPILER
A compiler is a computer program (or set of programs) that transforms source code written in a
programming language (the source language) into another computer language (the target language,
often having a binary form known as object code). The most common reason for wanting

Edgar Allan Poe And Romanticism
If there was indeed a writer who embodies romanticism through his works, it would be Edgar Allan
Poe. Born on January 19, 1809, Edgar Allan Poe s life is far from what one can imagine as a fairytale.
His father died in 1810 and his mother in 1811 which left Poe an orphan. His life was seemingly a
series of unfortunate events. He found himself buried in gambling debt when he was a student at the
University of Virginia which led to his eventual expulsion. Among others, this triggered his
estrangement from his adoptive father which eventually led to Poe leaving his care. He enlisted in the
army in May 1827 wherein he published his first literary work entitled Tamerlane and Other Poem
which only sold 50 copies. He was eventually discharged from his duty in February 1831 for gross
neglect of duty. He married his cousin, Virginia Clemm in 1835. Poe published The Raven in 1845 ...

He begins by stating the effect that he wishes to convey he wishes to manifest Beauty in its highest
form which, for him, is one of melancholy. He thereafter puts forth how such effect can be emphasized
in his work and determines repetition of a carefully formulated refrain going to the extent of finding
the most appropriate word to do such task. He finds it in the word Nevermore and places it upon the
Raven to religiously repeat such word for the desired effect. Nevermore becomes a mechanism that is
used to deepen the emotions emulated by the persona borne out of the mourning due to the death of
his beloved. In addition, this device presents its reader a contrast of sorts. The persona, being a learned
scholar is placed before a raven, an unintelligent animal who is simply capable of repetition and yet
the former becomes engaged to the point that he reveres such creature. Stanzas 15 to 16 brings about
the image of the scholar begging for a reprieve from this lowly creature, one which he deemed to be a

The Marble Champ
Never give up. Always keep going. Try hard. Practice makes perfect. The Marble Champ by Gary
Soto is a great story. A girl named Lupe is not good at sports but she finds something athletic that she
could be good at. She found marbles. She practiced until she got so good, she won the marbles
championship. For this matter, I think a possible theme in this story is to never give, just like Lupe
did. A couple reasons why, are because she practices, perseveres, and always gives 100% effort.
To begin, one reason why a possible theme could be to never give up is Lupe practices. At the
beginning of the story Lupe did fingertip pushups. She did 20 of them in sets of five, so every so often
she could take a break. This seems like a lot to ask from someone who isn t that strong. She also
squeezed a eraser for a long time. From doing this she got so good she beat Alfonso. Alfonso was a
neighborhood kid who was really good at marbles, but Lupe got so good she beat him! In the story it
says, Man, she s bad! Alfonso said. She can beat the other girls for sure. I think. This was right after
Lupe beat Alfonso, and he was one of the best at marbles. Another reason is Lupe only ... Show more

Persevere means to keep trying even if you have failed. One example, is that even in marbles when
Lupe missed a shot she didn t let it get her, and make her quit, this shows that she wants to keep going
and continue, not quit. Secondly, she wasn t good at sports. Instead of just thinking she wouldn t be
good at something athletic. She tried. In the story it says, She could not catch a pop up figure in which
direction to kick the soccer ball. Instead, she at least put in effort to try and get good at something
athletic. Finally, In the marble championship Lupe was going up against a girl that looked tough, but
Lupe didn t turn around and walk away. She faced the girl. Lupe shoes a great amount of

  • 2. Personal Statement On Personal Finance Knowledge about personal finance is not always common knowledge and although money touches most modern homes, most parents don t teach their kids about money either. It can be hard to find time in a busy schedule to figure out when and how to adjust your time to set up a proper budget so instead you just decide to live pay check to paycheck because it got your parents by and now it gets you by and that has just always worked. One day you have to grow up and realize that those consequences of being financially stupid will come back to haunt you. Introduction The biggest issue that individuals have with their personal income is the lack of understanding where and how to control their spending habits and sometimes when to pay bills. This causes a great deal of anxiety, stress, depression, unkempt hygiene and possibly even losing the very job that is keeping their income flowing in to start with. With couples, the number one cause of relationship issues that are brought in front of a therapist and the number one cause of divorce just so happens to be financially related. The hardest yet most important thing to do when it comes to your finances, it to stop getting overwhelmed and take control back of your money and your life. Most people don t know where to start when it comes to taking control of their finances. When I think of the short term aspect of personal finances, I think of the here the now and the coming few months, maybe even up to a year. If you are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Vivian Mair Research Paper The photo messes with my mind. The reflections of the windowed glass company, layered and dimensional, make me question what plane each object occupies. And then there s the image taker, the nanny who lived a clandestine life as a street photographer. She s a woman whose now heralded work went undiscovered for decades. A woman about whom an Oscar nominated documentary has been produced. Her name is Vivian Maier. And in this photographed moment at Glass Co., one captured by the Rolleiflex held at her chest, she looks phantasmal. Reflected as she is, you can almost see through her or see past her which seems only fitting to the story of her life. Self portraits are Maier s signature, though the depth of subject in her street photography, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But only through Saturday, leaving a fleeting opportunity to experience such an arresting story. For decades Maier captured interesting photographs of ordinary people, with a secret curiosity for culture. But it wasn t until 2007, two years before her death, that Maier s work began to develop a reputation. In her old age, she had failed to keep up payments for five storage lockers rooms where she stuffed art books, newspaper clippings and home. The lockers were emptied and their contents auctioned off. John Maloof, a real estate agent searching for old time photos for a book he was writing, bought a box of negatives from the lot for $400. Though the images didn t work for his project, a while later he scanned them and put up a selection on a website.
  • 5. The post went viral, and Maier who by that time had died became a posthumous media sensation. It seems a shame that she wasn t alive to be recognized, but the way she went about her work taking more than 100,000 photos she never printed, seeing the image only one time through the viewfinder of her camera. • 6. Modest Mussorgsky During the first half of the 19th century, opera was in it s golden age. Composers sought to capture drama, emotion, and personalities, creating a closer connection with their audience. With this, they also began to reflect on the concerns of a broad audience; love and loyalty to family and/or nation, women s desire for independence, struggle for freedom, fear of evil. This want to appeal to the population sparked the theme of national identity, which came to be known as Nationalism. The French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars helped spread the concept of a nation as a group of citizens with a common heritage, rather than as subjects of a ruler. Influence of this idea grew throughout the 19th century. Nationalism unified the people through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Immigrants from Europe, Latin America, Asia, and former African American slaves and their descendants, brought their own musical traditions from folk to classical. Ethnic divisions were the distinctions between classical, popular, and folk music. These three categories represented different attitudes toward notation, composition, and performance. Classical tradition centered on the composer and the work, and required intricate notation of the score. Popular music was written down and sold as a commodity, but centered on the performer and the performance, allowing for leeway in the notated music. Folk music was independent of musical notation, being passed on through oral tradition. Overall, these three categories often overlapped. Folk tunes were written down and sold as popular music, arranged for concert performance, or incorporated into classical pieces; classical works were transcribed and altered for performance in popular venues; and some popular songs became so well known that they were then passed down orally, like folk ... • 7. The Collapse Of The Minoan One may ask, who are the Minoans? Well they are considered by many Historians and Archeologists to be the first great European Civilization. Some people believed that this was the mythical land of Atlantis. They were located near the Aegean Sea and lands such as Greece, Troy and Asia Minor. One interesting fact is that these people never called themselves the Minoans. There wasn t any name listed in the history books for these people but the Ancient Crete Civilization. They were known as the Crete Civilization because they lived on the island of Crete which is now part of Greece. It wasn t until a 19th century British Archeologist, Sir Author Evans gave them the name, The Minoans. He gave them this name because he believed he had found the legendary palace of King Minos. There has been many civilization collapses over the World s history, but most can be explained in great detail. There are some that are very mysterious and not definitively explained. The collapse of the Minoan people happens to be one of those mysterious collapses which ranks 3rd in the top ten most mysterious collapses of the world and is still to this day debated on what actually caused their demise. There are many factors that go into the collapse of a civilization, but this kind of catastrophe doesn t just happen in a blink of an eye this is something that happens over a long period of time. • 8. History Of The Clarinet Essay The clarinet is a woodwind instrament consisting of a cylindrical wood, metal, or ebonite pipe with a bell shaped opening at one end and a mouthpiece at the other end, to which a thin reed is attached. The clarinet has five different sections, the mouthpiece, the barrel, the upper section, the lower section, and the bell. The length of the entire instrument is 60 cm long. The mouthpiece section consists of a slotted cylinder, to which a reed is attached by a metal clamp called a ligature. The mouthpiece plugs into the next section which is a barrel. The barrel is simply a connecting cylinder to which the mouthpiece and the upper section plugs into. The upper section is a cylindrical pipe consisting of 4 holes and 9 keys placed in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By the mid eighteenth century, the five key clarinet became standard. In 1844, the clarinet was further revised into what we know of it today. Around the beginning of the eighteenth century, a German instrument maker, Johann Christoff Denner invented the clarinet by improving the chalumeau. He did this by doubling the length of the chalumeau and adding two keys. The clarinet slowly acquired more keys during the eighteenth century. By 1750 the five key clarinet was the standard. In 1844, two french musicians, Louis Augustine Buffet and Hyacinthe Klosé made the most significant improvement in the instruments history. They applied the Boehm flute key system to the clarinet. This was done by placing each hole in different places so that each note would have the same tone quality. Then, they devised a key system that would cover all the holes. The improvements were a success, and the newly revised instrument became popular all over the world. The clarinet produces sound when air passes over the reed. The reed then vibrates, causing the flowing air to vibrate, thus producing sound. The air then exits the nearest opening. The farther the air travels before exiting, the deeper and lower the note will be. To produce a wide variety of notes, the clarinet has many keys and holes. Pressing different combinations of keys will result in different notes. Since the clarinet is a very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Importance Of Race In The Film Slumdog Millionaire If you can do nothing else, do whatever is in your power to make the people in your life feel completely unashamed of who they are (Killermann). As times change and our society continues to evolve, the importance of human rights and acceptance are constantly emphasized. Through the movie, Slumdog Millionaire directed by Danny Boyle I learned about discrimination relating to social class. Additionally, in the song, Small Town Boy by Bronski Beat, I learned about how gay individuals may be judged by society. Through further analyzing and exploring these texts, I could seek real life examples of how human rights can be violated. These texts prove that we must move away from the deep rooted issue of discrimination and learn to accept, love, and celebrate our differences not only as individuals but as a society. In Danny Boyle s movie, Slumdog Millionaire , the use of pathos allows readers to understand how discrimination relating to social class is a real issue. The movie follows the life of a Muslim boy named Jamal, living in a Hindu environment. Jamal decides to participate in an Indian game show and has made it to the final round that could win himself one million dollars. As the audience settles down and the question is announced, the game show host turns to Jamal and says, Do the right thing in approximately three minutes and you will be as famous as me. And as rich as me. Almost (Boyle). Jamal who is someone that is not the wealthiest is hammered by the harsh ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Narrative Essay About Duck Camp Initially, when I first visited Tarleton State University, all I saw was men wearing cowboy hats, jeans, and boots, but as I walked around campus more with my dad, I started to see more diversity within the students on campus. As my dad and I walked around campus looking like we don t belong, a girl pointed us in the right direction to find Heritage. We spoke to a residential leader who kindly showed us around the dorm and told us how amazing the campus is. From that second forward, I had started to fall in love with Tarleton. Orientation soon approached and introduced me to Duck Camp. When I originally heard what Duck camp was about, teaching the heritage and traditions of Tarleton, I was exhilarated to leave that second to learn, socialize, and start my transition from high school to college. Before Duck Camp arrived, one of my TTMs, Wacey Horton, sent me a text saying he will be my daddy duck for Duck Camp one. To be completely honest, I was a little weirded out when I saw him say daddy duck but it made me laugh and all the more excited for Duck Camp. Wacey made my Duck Camp experience something I will never forget for the rest of my life; he made it fun, introduced all of us to new people, established friendships between all of us, and has brought me entirely out of my shell I had enclosed myself in during high school. Wacey taught me how to have more confidence, to have real school spirit, and how to yell my lungs out like me life depended on it. Thanks to an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Harlem Renaissance Book Report In the New World, the Negros have had their fair share in being moved from place to place. In the 1920s , African Americans moved to Harlem, New York to start a new life for themselves. Harlem became a place where Negros felt free from the segregated South and had liberties to explore their artistic abilities. This movement was known as the Great Migration and although it appears this was a major step for African Americans, there was still a lot of work to be done. The North had their targeted issues with their new neighbors and voiced it as well. It was an imperative part of the United States when the Harlem Renaissance came about because it created diversity in artistic culture. The Harlem Renaissance brought people of different ethnicities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... African Americans were portrayed by whites, who would entertain audiences in black face. While the depiction of blacks was highly demeaning, it opened the door to African American performers, and by the late 1800s, a number of them were playing to full houses. By the 1920s, the Jazz Age was in full swing, allowing black musicians and composers to reach wider audiences. And in the thirties, musicals such as George Gershwin s Porgy and Bess and Eubie Blake s Swing It opened the door a little wider. As the years passed, black performers continued to gain ground. In the 1940s, Broadway productions of Cabin in the Sky, Carmen Jones, and St. Louis Woman enabled African Americans to demonstrate a fuller range of talents, and Paul Robeson reached national prominence in his awarding winning portrayal of Othello. By the 1950s and 60s, more black actors―including Ruby Dee, Ossie Davis, and Sidney Poitier―had found their voices on stage, and black playwrights and directors had begun to make their marks. Black Broadway provides an entertaining, poignant history of a Broadway of which few are aware. • 12. The Connection Theories And Why I Am My Friend s Dad It was a Friday night with a clear dark sky and birds tweeting all around. I was sitting outside on the balcony scrolling through my twitter timeline when I landed on a twitter thread. A twitter thread is a set of tweets that a person tweets consecutively to inform, satirize, persuade or amuse the reader. These threads tend to be about anything and everything and they ve become my favorite part of going on the app itself. Some examples I ve seen before range from How I slept with my best friend s dad to How I achieved a 4.0 . The one I landed upon that night was about conspiracy theories and seeing as the thread was long, I went back inside, got comfy and began reading. The thread started with the Mandela effect which seemed pretty intense then it went on to the famous 9/11 theory. The one that caught my eye was Denver International Airport theory. This had me shook that the airport 20 minutes away from me is considered hell. It s actually so creepy a chill runs down my spine writing about it. When I first read the theory, I googled it and learned the basics. So the day of the assignment it was the first thing that came to mind, and it made it much easier that I can actually drive to the airport and uncover it myself. I hope you re ready but here it goes. The Denver International Airport is deemed to be one of the daunting places on earth. It s believed that the airport is a new world order command bunkers with underground tunnels. Tunnels? Why? However, in a changing global environment filled with bacteria, viruses, and disease, scientists and farmers have continually tried to find ways to make food safer for consumers. The normal way currently is to use pesticides and preservatives to keep diseases at bay and keep food from going bad and possibly causing harm to those who eat it. Some researchers, however, are still looking for safer and more effective ways to preserve food, and the idea of food irradiation has been around since the early 1900 s. The FDA greatly expanded the use of food irradiation in the year 1986, even though it was already used for things such as wheat, flour, and potatoes. Before this time, radiation was thought of in food terms as an additive, not a process the food must go through. In fact, by 1988, some nineteen major countries had laws in place that allowed for certain foods to be irradiated to help better preserve them. The world is beginning to realize this form of preservation as a viable option, and the only thing left is for the consumer and the government to decide whether or not this should be a commonly used method. Food irradiation has many variables that make it exactly what it is. There are different types of irradiation that work on different types of food, and accomplish different tasks such as sterilization, disease prevention, or even acting as an insect repellent. The thing that truly defines the different types, however, is the type of radiation used. The most effective types include electron beam radiation, gamma ray radiation, and x ray radiation. Electron beam radiation is the shortest in terms of time needed to irradiate the food, but it also does not penetrate very deep, only about half a centimeter. This type of ray radiation is used to merely disinfect things like wheat and some grains. Gamma ray radiation is the use of Cobalt 60 in most places to irradiate the food. In fact, this type of radiation can penetrate up to six inches. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The play Macbeth is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare and takes place in eleventh century Scotland. Featuring a plot full of twists and turns engages readers throughout the play. Even when the main character, Macbeth, is enticed to commit a treacherous deed which causes a chain of murders and deceptions eventually leading to Macbeth s unsightly demise, suspense is not lost. It is a masterpiece giving insight into human nature and temptation, proving that only the characters who remain true to themselves will escape unscathed from this backward place; because, in a world where ... Both of them, alone, started plotting King Duncan s murder. Lady Macbeth seems better prepared to wear this mask, and hide her true intents than Macbeth does. Since Macbeth is seemingly incapable of facing Duncan without their plan written across his face, Lady Macbeth encourages him to Look like th innocent flower, but be the serpent under t (I, v, 56). It is almost as if Shakespeare wanted Macbeth to be portrayed as an actor, having to put on this mask, and deliver a convincing performance of trust and loyalty. This is evident because even though Macbeth openly expresses his distaste in Duncan s murder when he tells Lady Macbeth We will proceed no further in this business (I, vii, 32) he still ends up killing Duncan. Wearing this mask has taken its toll on Macbeth. His mind and body were opposed to the deed; which is shown to the readers when Macbeth sees a floating dagger. Perhaps hinting that his sanity is not intact. However, after it is done, Macbeth changes and starts molding himself to fit the mask he wears, accepting murder, and moving forward with his life. Masking intentions does not have to be for evil means. Malcolm masks himself in order to test Macduff, and by doing this he gains a friend and ally, rather than a crown and subjects. So while masking one s intentions can yield bountiful rewards, it can also pull them towards the path of evil, for there is no yellow brick road to get lost on in this world of ... • 15. Effects Of Parental Investment On Children Parental investment includes any investment by the parent in an individual offspring that increases the offspring s chances of survival, at the cost of the parent s ability to invest in other offspring (Travier, 1972). Since investing on themselves is as important as investing on their children, parents have to choose between caring for a child and acquiring the resources needed to insure their own productive and reproductive successes (Turner McAndrew, 2006). This choice can be influenced by the social, cultural and economic factors at household level, and by socio demographic factors at individual level. These factors may vary from culture to culture and overtime. However, the following variables are the most frequently cited determinants of parental investment on children. i) Gender; the gender of the parent is the most widely reported determinant of parent`s willingness to invest on children. This is mentioned across disciplines, from biology through social anthropology, with similar conclusions but different explanations. There is consensus that the gender identity of the parent through which income is received determines how the resources are invested on child welfare. Studies (Agarwal, 1997; Kabeer, 2000) indicated that income injected into the household through the mother do more justice to the welfare of children compared to resources injected through the father. Similarly, an exogenous increase in mothers income has a larger effect on children`s outcomes than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She was raised in a drastically different manner than her mother. Vivie in fact did not know her mother very well and even grew up away at prestigious schools away from her mother s care. Vivie was well educated, has a degree in math, and plans to get a job in London. The play is centered on the discussion between Vivie and Mrs. Warren about the morality about Mrs. Warren s profession as a sex worker. Although the play is called Mrs. Warrens profession, the play is mostly about the ways that Vivie s interactions with her mother change her. The play opens with Vivie sitting on her porch and being informed that her mother is coming from London to visit her. Vivie s upbringing was different from her mother in such a drastic way and it calls into question the morality of the decisions that Mrs. Warren made in her earlier years. Mrs. Warren had to make a decision in her earlier years that was morally wrong for most but she made it because her morals were outweighed by the circumstances in which she was in. These deposits of marine hematite and quartz represent a precipitation of dissolved iron from sea water as the dissolved oxygen content of the water increased. After 1800 mya, Banded iron formations are rare, but terrestrial red beds are common for the first time suggesting that iron is being oxidised and precipitated in soils and rocks on land in the source area of sediments instead of being dissolved and carried into the oceans in its unoxidised form. Thus, it has been reasoned that the BIF red bed transition marks the rise of atmospheric oxygen. Complimentary information comes from detrital uraninite in Archean and earliest Proterozoic alluvial rocks. Because this uranium mineral can survive prolonged transport only in media containing little or no oxygen, the lack of detrital uraninite deposits younger than 2300 ma also points towards a significant environmental transition (Roscoe,1969). Not all scientists have accepted the validity of these observations or of their interpretation, Dimroth and Kimberley(1976) argued that at least some red beds antedate the end of BIF deposition, that Archean granites have paleoweathering profiles indicative of oxic environments, and that oxidised sulphur minerals (sulphates) occur in some of the oldest known sedimentary successions. In his doctrine, Truman states the importance it is for the United Sates to become involved in assisting other countries with political, military, and economic aid to all democratic nations under any kind of communist threat. He also states that the reason countries become communist is because they had the totalitarian regimes forced upon them against their will (Truman, Harry S.); therefore, in order for that not to happen, the US would restore hope into those who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed ... In each society, the culture of that society has a functional purpose. It provides values, beliefs, attitudes, and behaviours that facilitate human interaction. The culture of a working woman will be very different from that of a non working female. Spiro, R.L studies show that Strodtbect, I. L. found cultural differences with respect to the roles of females were related to differences in decision making. This is because both groups will have different beliefs and attitudes due to the way they have been nurtured. Social In a materialist society economic well being much determines what social class you are in. If this was the case, than working women would be in a much higher class than non working. However focusing primarily on income fails to recognise the differences in spending of disposal income characteristics of social classes. For example a teacher who earns the same as a truck driver will spend their money in distinctly different ways, the service and goods will not be the same. (Runyon, K.E 1980). Working women may spend their money on socialising i.e. with friends etc. whereas a non working woman may have children and therefore spend much money on the family Social class differences are variations in life styles, in values, interpersonal attitudes and self perception. These differences influence consumer behaviour, shopping patterns, and effective communications. Therefore marketing practitioners should understand that

To make kymographs, the movies are resliced and then 8 pixel thick sections are Z projected, using the maximum intensity setting. Because the width of Aplysia neurons are typically x mm, this typically generates 5 to 10 kymographs for a given axon. A line is then drawn down the center of the kymograph on the time axis, and the velocity and direction of each mitochondrion that crosses the line is measured. For each axon, the flux and average velocity in each direction is determined. For each condition, the measurements for individual axons are averaged. To determine if mitochondrial transport increases when neurons are grown under conditions where synapses form, we measured mitochondrial flux and transport velocity for Aplysia sensory neurons grown alone and in co culture with L7 motor neurons. In sensory neurons, we found the average flux in the anterograde and retrograde directions to be 4.2+/ 0.6 mitochondria mm 1 min 1, ave +/ 95% ci, n = 18 axons and 2.8 +/ 0.8 mitochondria mm 1 min 1, ave +/ 95% ci, n = 18 axons. We express flux in these units to control for the large width of the Aplysia axons (i.e. 4.2 mitochondria moved towards the growth cone each minute per mm of axonal width). Using a two tailed Student s t test we found that anterograde transport was significantly higher than retrograde transport (p 0.01). This is similar to chick sensory neurons, which have an anterograde fast mitochondrial flux that is roughly twice as large as the retrograde flux ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Children Should Not Receive Scheduled Vaccinations Children are a vulnerable group within a population with respect to diseases, which then increases their susceptibility to various illnesses, as adults generally have a stronger immune system as compared to children. Steens, Beasley, Tsui, and Lee (1975) argued that children are more prone to be a carrier of diseases than adults (as cited in Anderson and May, 1985). With that being said, the focus remains on vaccinating children as the majority are in school for a great amount of time where they are in proximity of one another, the continuous sharing of items, and are usually inconsistent with hand hygiene. Under those circumstances, Anderson and May (1985) found that in children aged 5 15 infection rates would increase as a result of close contact within schools. Children who do not receive scheduled vaccinations put themselves, as well as others at risk for vaccine preventable diseases, as infants who are too young of age to receive vaccines, children, elderly, and community members who have compromised immune systems most vulnerable to acquiring vaccine preventable diseases. Omer, Salmon, Orenstein, DeHart, Halsey (2009) argued that outbreaks of diseases regularly begins with individuals who refuse vaccinations, as it spreads within communities and other populations. The park is an area of general natural beauty with beautiful landscapes and great scenic views but people are allowed to live and work within the area. • 50. Analysis Of Holden Uses Defense Mechanisms Jenny Jung Mrs. Kehrmeyer AP Language, Period 1 08 March 2017 Consequently, Holden uses defense mechanisms, as a means of preventing anxiety that would result from conscious awareness of disturbing impulses, wishes, or ideas arising from the id, (Nevid 471). Nevid explains that according to Freudian theory, defense mechanisms reside in the unconscious part of the human brain because if people were conscious of every single problem, people wouldn t be able to function. Therefore, Holden is subconsciously utilizing defense mechanisms in order to shield himself from confronting his problems. One major defense mechanism present in Holden s behavior is denial. Holden s resides in an ivory tower, reluctant to accept that he s actually hurt. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Nevid clarifies, Though defense mechanisms may be a normal process of adjusting to the unreasonable demands of the id, they can give rise to abnormal behavior, (471). Although defense mechanisms can help put off a certain problem for some time, relying on defense mechanisms is not always beneficial because it gives people reasons to act irrationally. This clarification of Freud s theory is strongly portrayed in Holden s exaggerated view of reality. His denial triggers delusional fantasies in Holden s mind that he doesn t seem to think deeply about. For example, when one rash thought entered into Holden s mind, he delivers an ultimatum to Sally, saying, ...Tomorrow morning we could drive up to Massachusetts and Vermont...We ll stay in cabin camps until the dough runs out. Then, when the dough runs out, I could get a job somewhere, and we could live somewhere with a brook and all and, later on, we could get married or something, (Salinger 132). At the age of sixteen, as if it s not unrealistic enough, he tries to persuade Sally. When Sally gives him a reality check, he practically rages at her. Holden is so blinded by the fantasy world he created for himself and his defense mechanisms were giving Holden an excuse to acting abnormally. As a result, he blames Sally for the unreasonable idea he proposed, calling her a royal pain in the ass, (133). A girl named Lupe is not good at sports but she finds something athletic that she could be good at. She found marbles. She practiced until she got so good, she won the marbles championship. For this matter, I think a possible theme in this story is to never give, just like Lupe did. A couple reasons why, are because she practices, perseveres, and always gives 100% effort. To begin, one reason why a possible theme could be to never give up is Lupe practices. At the beginning of the story Lupe did fingertip pushups.
