Dystopian Differences In The Hunger Games And The Hunger...
Dystopian films and books have become popular over the past few years. These tend to reflect the way
in which society could possibly soon turn if expecting extremes. Dystopian literature and media also
tend to have utopian elements as well. While the societies in these works are strict and controlling,
they do offer something that our society could possibly benefit from. Divergent has this element. The
population is broken up into five factions that represent the different types of people in society and
separate those who would fight easily due to their personal morals. The Hunger Games on the other
hand (when modern society crumbled) they punished their citizens for fighting the government. While
yes there was a chance for riches in the Hunger Games, it took risking your life to get it. In addition, if
one did win the Hunger Games they would have an extremely easy life due to riches and a free luxury
house. Divergent does not have this part, as its utopian aspect is the fact different ideals are separated
from each other. Utopian literature is a reflection that is a perceived direction society may go. In these
stories, mirrors are a device used to symbolically state the universe of the film is a reflection not a
reality. The Hunger Games series is based of the book trilogy of the same name. In this series, the
Hunger Games are a pageant based on a punishment for a rebellion that occurred approximately 100
years before. In this pageant, two tributes are chosen per district

Essay about The History of Rock
The History of Rock
As one of the most popular music genres, rock music has grown and expanded to incorporate many
styles throughout the years. A rock band usually consists of a vocalist, an acoustic drum kit played
with a strong beat, usually a back beat, and features electric and acoustic guitars. From its beginnings
in the late 1950s and early 1960s until the present day, rock has changed styles seemingly every
decade as new bands become popular because of their unique style of music. Throughout the years
rock has influenced our culture and helped shape the world we live in today.
Rock and roll was born in the late 1950s. Primary influenced from southern artists like Elvis Presley
and Bill Haley, this new genre of music though ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This led to the involvement of orchestral instruments in rock.
Punk rock became popular due to the record industry s split from the major recording companies.
Smaller independent recording labels indorsed underground artists. This divided mainstream rock, like
Elvis Presley, and alternative rock, like The Grateful Dead. Other hard rock groups that got there start
in the 1970s were Kiss, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Rush, Journey, and Van Halen.
The mid to late 1970s brought about a slow but steady change in punk rock. With the advent of heavy
metal and punk rock bands an explosion of new rock genres emerged. The change was started by three
bands from New York. The New York Dolls, the Dictators and the Ramones started a new trend that
quickly spread throughout Europe and the rest of the world. It slowly caught on in the US and when it
finally did the hardcore form of punk rock became a national expression for millions of teens and
young adults for the next two decades.
The merging of heavy metal and punk rock was bound to happen. Although attempted in 1978 by the
Ramones, bands from Las Angeles became the first to successfully complete the crossover into punk
metal.
In the early 1980s, alternative rock bands like REM began to get a lot of airtime on college radio
stations and appearances on MTV and other TV settings. Before long numerous alternative radio
stations appeared

Competitive Characters In The Odyssey
My goal of competing in a 5k is like odysseus s journey home because I am training very hard and
sometimes I plateau and even have to backtrack to see progress to where finally I will achieve my
ultimate goal. There are assertive characters in The Odyssey that stand out to me and represent my
training and the hard road it is. The characters I chose were Athena, the Cyclops, the Lotus Eaters and
Odysseus. These characters imitate my training because they all serve as a symbol for each part of
practicing for the 5k. Athena, Athena is a very important character in the book The Odyssey because
she is Odysseus s coach to get him back to his wife and son at home. My Athena as a part of my
guidance is probably my mom or my brother. My mom is essential as to getting the food I need to stay
healthy and to increase my performance as well as keep encouraging me to do my absolute best. My
brother is more of the trainer to where he pushes me to the limits and advises on what to do what not
to do and things like that. Either way they both find a way to keep me on track to reach my goal of
competing in and completing a 5k. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dark Inside Trust Quotes
The Significance of Trust
Trust is a valuable asset in which many people rely on everyday. Once trust is broken, it becomes
difficult to move forward in life and trust new people.Individuals must be cautious in the ways trust
will affect their life. In the novel Dark Inside by Jeyn Roberts, the main characters often contemplate
if there are other people going through the same traumatising moments as they are, and whether they
would be considered trustworthy. These characters go through many times of struggle, confusion, and
bravery in order to find out whether the path they travel on will lead them to victory, or traps they will
regret falling into. Mason s risky encounter with Twiggy, Aries questionable friendship with Daniel,
and Clementine s great trust in her mother are all ways in which involve the difficulty of trust. ...

reliable and trustworthy friend. Had you fooled, didn t I?... I always liked a show. Better than simply
putting a bullet in your brain. I needed to see if I could convince you first (Roberts 171). This quote
specifically proves that Twiggy betrayed Mason s trust by tricking him into thinking he was a good
man, while also violently cracking a glass mug over Mason s head. We ll find you. You ll never never
hide long enough. We ll find you and kill each and every last one of you. All alone. Run, Mr. Dowell

Twiggy s terrifying threats, which makes Mason contemplate whether meeting new people would be a
smart move, or just another mistake similar to the one he makes with Twiggy. After all, Mason s
terrifying encounter with twiggy changed his perspective on trust, and made him realize that trust does

How Did Duhamel Influence North Dakota
North Dakota to Hollywood
The famous actor, Josh David Duhamel once said, North Dakota a lot of the times we don t get a voice

Josh was born on November 14, 1972. Duhamel was about 9 when his parents got divorced. However,

Genetic Engineering Persuasive Essay
Science has enabled humanity to thrive in a world where change is a prerequisite that must be
achieved if an organism aspires to live. It allowed for the human race to bend and twist to
accommodate to our needs. Death s touch became a mere gesture we can avoid most of the time.
Although we stand at the forefront of human advancement, we are still held back. Genetic
engineering, the direct modification of DNA, is the solution to the problems we continuously
encounter today. Particularly, it would benefit areas such as food production, elimination of disease
and disorders, and the fate of mankind itself. To begin with, food production has been a disputable
matter for years because of the way it is being grown. For instance, crops are sprayed with pesticide ...

Due to the fact that most incurable diseases/disorders are caused by the genes of a person, DNA
modification can be used to create the best set of genes necessary to fend off any type of disease.
Eventually if this type of genetic engineering is used on most of the world population, diseases such as
cancer, Ebola, AIDS, and polio would completely disappear. Disorders like schizophrenia, diabetes,
and asthma could also be wiped out of the gene pool altogether. Thus, the health of the future
generations to come would be exceedingly enhanced. Besides becoming immune to illness, genetic
engineering can change the course of human fate. The average lifespan of a person is around 70 years,
but this can be extended by more years with genetic engineering. It doesn t have to stop there. Not
only would the life of a single person be longer, but they would be able to keep their youth for much
longer. While the idea of a 60 year old woman who still retains her youthful appearance seems
entertaining, it is highly plausible for a future with genetic

The Case Of A Contract
Page 180 1) The court viewed the situation as if a reasonable individual would consider the offer as
valid. Zehmer s outward expressions and words constituted a genuine offer to sell. The outwardly
demonstrated intent is all the court looks at, not the secret and inward thought of the defendant. A
contract cannot be done in passing or when absent minded. Both parts have to come to mutual
understanding and agreement (Melvin, 2011). Lucy demonstrated her intent by ensuring that details
were in the contract (illustrated by several drafts that were written), and by ensuring both husband and
wife signed the contract (Lucy v. Zehmer Case Brief Summary, 2015). 2) Had Zehmer realized that

their possession for several months to accept or reject, and did not. 2) The facts that would weigh for
Chou would be that both parties accepted the terms and continued operating as if there were a
contract. Second would be the fact that upon notification of further contract, Chou prepared and
delivered it immediately. It was BTT that deferred the signing without rejecting the contract for
several months. 3) The mail rule and their communication by faster email reveal that they both had
many opportunities within any given period to make adjustments, counter offers, or even reject the
deal without it going on for such a long period (Melvin, 2011). 4) Chou s neglect to follow through
with a contract could make the deal unenforceable. The statute of frauds requires some information to
be written down and signed. If the courts did not take the email that spells out all the terms of the
agreement sent by BTT to Chou as proof of all parties agreement, it could be a dismissed lawsuit
(Melvin, 2011). 5) BTT could avoid the contact under a doctrine of mistake. However, it would be

Shaun In The Film This Is England
In the film This is England the little main protagonist, Shaun, has experience vast changes over the
course of the movie. In the beginning, Shaun appears to be a sweet little boy that had a hard time
fitting in at his school and for this reason he was bullied from older boys. Like most 11 year old kids
who wore jumpers with animals on, I got bullied by the older kids at school. So I looked for my own
tribe to join. (Meadows, 2007) In fact, Shaun meets Woody who introduced him to his gang and gains
new friends. Referring back to Meadows words, Shaun just wanted to be part of something and have a

aggressive skinhead gang that caused a lot of problems in the town. Shaun decides to join Combo s
gang because he wanted to make his father proud that was killed in the Flanklands war, and this can be
deduced by Combo when he said: and you want your dad s life to mean something. Don t you...
Although, I don t think that making his father proud was the only reason. In fact, in Shaun s life there
has been a lack of a father figure, which he suffered from, and so when he meets Combo, and he tells
him that he is going to take care of him, Shaun decided to take him as a role model to follow. As a
result Combo becomes the father figure in his life and decided to follow his nationalism idea. Combo

The Eyes Of The Eyes
Eyes are a very fascinating organ. They are the gate that allows us to see. Eyes detect color. Color is
dependent on the light that it reflects and sometimes, transmits. Besides detecting colors of objects,
eyes allow people to read along with the brain. Reading is one of the primary ways people get
information. The eyes are amazing.
Eyes
Eyes are the organs of vision. They detect light and amend it into electro chemical impulses in
neurons. They eye consists mainly of the cornea, lens, pupil, iris, retina, fluid filled chamber, and the
optic nerve. The cornea is a clear tissue that covers the front of the eye. The lens is a flexible structure
that focuses light. The layer of receptor cells that line the back of the eye is called the retina. The pupil
is the opening through which light enters the eye (Coolidge Stolz, E. Graff Haight, D. 2000).
The eye responds to a stimulus of light. Receptors in the retina convert the light stimulus into
electrical impulses that your brain interprets. This enables one to see. When light enters the eye, it first
strikes the cornea. Then it passes through the fluid filled chamber behind. Finally, it reaches the pupil.

cells, horizontal cells, and amacrine cells. Bipolar cells receive information from the rods and cones.
Many of these go directly to the retinal ganglion cells in the front. Horizontal cells link rods and cones
to bipolar cells. Amacrine cells connect bipolar cells and retinal ganglion cells. The front layer has the

Financial Position of Tesco PLC
Introduction The relevance of evaluating both the financial performance as well as position of Tesco
PLC cannot be overstated. This is more so the case given the need to determine the stability and
viability of the company going forward. This text seeks to evaluate the financial performance as well
as position of Tesco PLC by amongst other things analyzing the entity s financial statements. In this
case, the evaluation will be based on the company s recently published annual accounts.
Tesco PLC: Company Background Yahoo! Finance (2012) describes Tesco PLC as a company that
operates stores that primarily offer food products, as well as general merchandise, clothing products,
and electrical products. In addition to that, Tesco PLC is also involved in the provision of insurance,
financial as well as banking (retail) services (Yahoo! Finance, 2012). Taking into consideration the
number of branches it has in various parts of the world, Tesco PLC can be regarded one of the largest
retailers around the globe. Having been established sometimes in the year 1919 by Jack Cohen, the
company has surely come a long way (Tesco, 2012). The phenomenal growth of Tesco PLC over time

My First Day In America Research Paper
Everyone has to experience an important stage, which create significant changes in his life. I am not
an exception. When I am 16 years old, I made one of the most important decision of my life, when I
decided to take part in an exchange program and live far away from my family for nearly a year.
Although the program have not finished yet, I had a lot of memorable moments in America, and the
first day at my school is one of them.
The first day at American High school is the first time in many years, I experience such exciting

why I have to face it. I spent months to get used to life in America when I am at home, including

shocked for hours. I had to move between classes, and had to study many subjects that I have never
study before, or even know its existence. I could not listen to all of my teacher s instruction, and I did
not understand some of them at all. Language barrier was still an obstacle for me to conquer the
subjects. However, that was all difficulties that I have faced. Beside, there are a lot of interesting
things that I can explore at my school. School cafeteria offer a wide variety of not only delicious but
also nutritious food. I could also sit with my new friends and chat with them for half an hour. More
interestingly, I found a bottle of spicy ketchup at my first lunch, made by a Vietnamese company. It
was also my favourite sauce, so I felt really exciting to taste my country s flavour while studying
abroad. Lunch time has always been a great time until now and I hope my time in the cafeteria each
day could be longer. The beautiful smell and taste of food of my first lunch at CCA were so wonderful
that in the next days, they are the only things in my mind at the first four hours. However, it is not the
most interesting time of the first day. For the first time in my life, I can play a real soccer match, and
that drove me crazy. Although the cold air in Michigan almost made my lung freeze everytime I

1. Is the capital investment proposal described in Exhibit 3 and attractive one for Quality Metal

B. Internal rate of return: 21.8%
c. Net present value (at 15% cost of capital): $286,000
The proposal seems to be an attractive one due to the fact that there seems to be a need in the district

* As a percentage return measure, ROA is comparable to cost of capital and market rate of return
measures.
Weaknesses:
* There is no incentive for a division to expand to the point where the marginal return on investment
equals the cost of capital.
Since by evaluating on ROA alone could be fine in the short run, but a manager does not have
incentive to grow a business by purchasing more assets. Maybe instead of basing the performance
evaluation solely on ROA also base the performance on the growth of the district as well and how the
district manager contributed to the growth.
4.In deciding the investment base for evaluating managers of investment centers, the general question
is: What practices will motivate that district managers to use their assets most efficiently and to
acquire the proper amount and kind of new assets? Presumably, when his ROA is being measured, the
district manager will try to increase his ROA, and we desire that the actions he takes toward this end
be actions that are in the vest interest of the whole corporation. Given this general line of reasoning,
evaluate the way Quality computes the investment base for its districts. For each asset category,
discuss whether the basis of measurement used by the company is the best for the purpose of
measuring districts ROA. What are the likely motivational problems that could arise in such a system?

Film Adaptation In Ray Bradbury s The Pedestrian
The Pedestrian The PBS article, on film adaptation, discusses the difference between written text and
film and the struggle of adapting a book into a movie. Statistically, 65 percent of all novels are
adapted into a film. Stories and novels rely on the narrator to tell the story whereas, films don t usually
have a narrator. Films tend to be way shorter then a novel or story because one frame can be worth six
pages of description. Films have a pro side and a con side, one con is that a film takes away your own

adaptation and the short story had a bad connection. In the short story, the story had narration whereas
the film had a second character. Having a second character changed the theme because in the short

narration were to be used in the film, one could infer that Leonard Mead is lonely, odd, and isolated
from society because he is the only one that walks. Also, in the short story, the other theme is that in

Essay on Christina Rossetti’s Goblin Market
Christina Rossetti s poem, Goblin Market, was written in the Victorian era during a time of vast social
change across Europe. Though the Victorian period was a time of female suppression and order,
Rossetti exposed social stigmas and ideologies that are displayed through the journey of two sisters,
Laura and Lizzie. Despite initial impressions of a childhood fairytale, the suggestive and multi
interpretive use of language signifies an underlying message of erotic sexual commentary and feminist
views. In addition, Rossetti conveys moral lessons by illustrating consequences of the goblin s
seduction. Through the sister s experience with the goblins, the power of sisterhood becomes
undeniable. Christina Rossetti s Goblin Market serves as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Ironically, Rossetti s portrayal of seduction is in stark contrast to accepted notions of the Victorian
period in that the male characters signify dangerous temptation, not the troubled females. The goblin
men confirm this contradiction by representing the venomous effects that experienced seductive men
have on innocent naive women. Rossetti s ironic gender split exemplifies her progressive attitude of
feminist thought while also serving as a depiction on the principles of Victorian society. In addition,
the feminist view of sexuality is evident throughout Rossetti s poem. Laura and Lizzie s magical
experience portrays the pursuit for sensual awareness while struggling between physical identity and
spiritual salvation. Furthermore, She clipped a precious golden lock, she dropped a tear more rare than
pearl, then sucked their fruit globes fair or red, sweeter than honey from the rock (ll. 126 29) and
sucked until her lips were sore (l. 136). With blatant sexual undertones, this pivotal moment signifies
the character s transition from maiden to woman or innocence to experience. Additionally, this
exchange could be a metaphor for Laura s relinquishment of her sacred virginity. As Laura falls sicker
and slowly begins to deteriorate, Rossetti illustrates the consequences of succumbing to the temptation
of men s deceit and the importance of remaining pure. With use of vivid imagery, Rossetti further
emphasizes the animalistic and uncanny

Gender Beliefs Of Gender Bias In The Workplace
Gender Bias in the Workplace
Brittney A. Bray
College of Central Florida
Stereotypes
Women have long fought for the right to be viewed as equal within the work place. Over the past
decades the percentage of women in management has risen from a mere 13.8% in 1950 to 50.6% in
2007 (Latu, 2000). However, gender stereotype bias and discrimination are still present in the modern
workforce. Gender stereotypes are beliefs of how men and women should be and act. When evaluators
don t have clear criteria, ambiguity causes gender stereotypes to fill the voids. Leading to differences
in the way men and women are evaluated. This happens, in most cases, on an unconscious level,
though it does still occur consciously. It has been shown by psychologists that we routinely categorize
individuals within milliseconds of meeting them, we classify them by their gender. In doing this we
assume they will possess certain gender role traits, either feminine or masculine. Men are expected to
have strong leadership traits, while women are known to have nurturing, submissive qualities. The
cause of gender discrimination is based on cultural beliefs and organizational policies. Women are
most vulnerable to gender discrimination and sexual harassment when they are in a male dominated
environment, they may also be perceived as a threat.
How gender stereotypes put women at a disadvantage.
When woman don t conform to their gender roles they are often criticized. For example; when Hilary

explains how the entire cycle of life works and what a person should do to attain eternity. Though the
gita was narrated 5000 years ago, it is still relevant to the modern age life of mankind and guides us to
eternity, this is explained in this thesis statement. Gita on Family bonding:
In the first chapter of gita when Arjuna hesitates to fight against his cousins, Krishna explains him
about the family bonding. He says that only when a person comes out of the family bonding and does
his duty properly he will be able to attain eternity. He explains the aim of Arjuna s birth. Arjuna was
born to fight this battle and destroy the evil. He has to see the evil in the kauravas, instead of seeing
them as his cousin brothers. Only then he can fight the evil and destroy it. Krishna clearly explains
why family bonding should not be a hurdle in doing ones duties. This is true in this current age of
mankind also. Though we don t have situations to fight war against our family members,

What Are The Causes Of Desmoid Tumors
The most common causes linked to desmoid tumors are genetics. Parents pass on the inherited gene
called beta catenin to the offspring. Another form of this mutated genes causing this condition are
associated with familial adenomatous polyposis is an inherited form of colon cancer.
In some cases, the tumor does occur randomly with no association to genetics or other existing health
conditions. These forms are described as sporadic and generally don t spread to other parts of the
body, unlike an aggressive fibromatosis condition also referred to as desmoid tumors outside the
abdomen.
The high levels of hormones during pregnancy raise the risks desmoid tumors. In this stance, the cause
of the tumor is a result of the abdominal wall expanding to accommodate the developing fetus. Other
causes of these tumors during pregnancy are linked to the excessive amounts of hormonal changes
affecting the immune system allowing the development of tumors. ... Show more content on

Boucce Research Paper
A Research About Bocce
History: Bocce Ball has been evolving for thousands of years. The basics of the game can be traced
back to games that were played in Egypt around 5000 BC when people first began settling along the
Nile Delta. Records dating to the 3rd century BC also show the popularity of a Bocce like game with
Roman soldiers. As the Roman Empire spread, this game was introduced throughout the European
continent, Asia and North Africa.
Bocce Ball is one of the oldest of all lawn or yard games. Best known in Italy, it is gaining popularity
in North America since it can be played by people of all ages and on a great variety of surfaces. Bocce

If you are successful in getting your bocce closer to the pallino than your opponent, you are awarded

Scoring: Bocce ball is a game played with two teams, each comprised of one, two or four players.
Each team has four bocci balls with which to play, and they are divided equally among players. Each
team tosses the bocci balls as close to the pallina ball as possible.
How to play:
1.) Divide players into two teams of one, two or four players each. Each team gets four balls, divided
equally among the players. A coin toss determines who will play first.
2.) To start the game have a player from the starting team stand behind the foul line (which is 10 feet
from the throwing end of the court) and throw the small ball, or pallina, toward the opposite end of the
playing surface. The same person who tossed the Pallino then throws the one Bocce Ball trying to get
it as close to the Pallino as possible without touching it.
3.) The next team then throws one ball trying to get closer than the first team. If team two gets closer,
then it is Team one s turn. If Team Two s ball does not come closer then they continue to throw until

The Genealogy Of Morals By Friedrich Nietzsche Essay
PHIL 2030 Final Essay
Alex Vanden Heuvel, Professor Lay, Fall Semester 2016
Responding to Prompt 1
On the Genealogy of Morals by Friedrich Nietzsche is typically listed as one of the most important
philosophical works of the modern era. It is only modern, of course, to philosophical standards, being
a mere 129 years old. It is also one of the most controversial works of its time, having the dubious
distinction of being connected to Nazi ideology; it also has a not very subtle racist, sexist, and
Darwinist bent that is a reflection of Nietzsche himself. That being said, I think that it is also serially
misunderstood. Nietzsche directly mentions the role of interpretation in ethical discourse in the
Genealogy, and the interpretive element factors heavily into one s understanding of the polemic and
by extension, ethics philosophy as a whole. Throughout the book, Nietzsche uses interpretation as a
tool in itself to make a constructivist and existentialist argument about the history of ethics as whole.
His idea that man has used interpretation throughout history, and the interpretive elements in
Genealogy outside of the historical analysis, seem to say that almost all ethics are derived from
interpretation and therefore constructivist in nature, which is a heavily existentialist argument. For
example, the entirety of the first essay is based heavily upon the role of interpretation in the
development of the early ethical systems that Nietzsche argues are built on the

Periodic Trends Of Chemical Properties
Periodic Trends of Chemical and Physical Properties in Group 1A and 7A
Hamish Thomson, Chemistry 11.2, Mr Ryan O Sullivan
Intro:
In chemistry, there are two classes of observable properties matter can display; chemical and physical.
These properties are classified by what needs to happen to the substance before the property becomes
evident. Chemical properties require a chemical change while physical properties don t need a
chemical change to occur. Four properties of the alkali metals and halogens will be talked about
through this essay, two chemical and two physical. The two chemical properties will be reactivity, how
willing a substance is to undergo a chemical change and toxicity, the ability of a substance to cause
damage to an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Fig 1 the reactivity of Non Metals decreases every period and increases every group, the halogens
lie on the end of the group of Non metals causing them to be highly reactive. The alkali metals have a
single electron in their outer electron shell, making it easy for them to become a noble gas and period
down the periodic table the easier it is to get rid of the extra electron, causing the alkali metals to
become more reactive the further down the periods. To become a noble gas a halogen must gain an
electron, the farther away the outer shell is from the nucleus, the more energy that is required for an
electron to enter the shell. Halogens need one more electron to become a noble gas, while alkali
metals need to donate an electron to become a noble gas. (Johnsonburg High School, n.d.) Fig 1. This
shows the trends of the reactivity of Metals and non metals on the periodic table.
Paragraph 3. Toxicity
Toxicity is how dangerous a substance is to an organism, it is commonly measured by the amount
required to kill 50% of the population of a given organism. The toxicity of the alkali metals increases
each period, due to the increase in reactivity. The toxicity of the halogens decreases as you go down
until astatine, which is harmful due to radioactivity (Helmenstine, 2017).
Paragraph 4. What is a physical property:
A physical property is a property of matter that can be observed without causing a

the poem once again shifts, now from the poet s dream to his address to a reader, presumed to be a

war is glorious and ennobling (Miller). In agreement with the statement of Owen aiming to dissuade
the british population from running into the war blindly, Miller refers to Owen s audience and how he
set the poem out as a warning and message of what war truly consists of. Owen writes in an unsettling
form and structure, fluctuating the poem to be slow and fast, contributing to make the reader who
never experienced the hardships of war, and trying to shepherd them away from their pro war

of the dying body, destroyed by the poisonous gas, (Miller) he wants the reader to know Owen did not

Becoming successful high school students takes a profuse amount of time and effort to achieve. Going
to college and receiving high paying scholarships can help in aiding students so that they can acquire a

an opportunity to graduate early from college. If the students go to college after high school, they will
most likely have better job opportunities than students who choose to remain not so successful in high

Character Analysis Of August Osage County
August: Osage County is a well acted play that is generally about a family that falls apart. That is
something that almost everybody has in common. This play could very well be realistic according to
the situations that were being displayed, dialogue being used and the setting of the play. The play
speaks about real people in everyday situations, dealing with common problems that almost
everybody s family has once had to deal with such as suicide, divorce, children growing up faster than
expected and much more. These types of situations go on in our everyday lives. Also, within this play
it presents an everyday conversation in a succinct, direct way. The dialogue hits with full force within
the context of the play and the drama plays out between the characters. Additionally, the most realistic
factor in the play was the set design. The setting is in a large county home outside of Pawhuska,
Oklahoma which reflects the society and culture in which people live. The set design fitting in with
the play being almost a three story home with a kitchen, dining room, Violet s room door and an attic.
This everyday setting helped contribute to the power of the play, making it easier for the audience to
be able to understand and relate to. Watching the August: Osage County play wasn t as interesting as
the script itself, but it was many aspects in the play that kept my attention. Pertaining to acting, Violet

Discontinuous Species Criticisms
Nature is very much discontinuous, but natural selection acts in a continuous manner, so the hard part
is finding out how nature is filled with these discrete and discontinuous groups called species. The
common criticism is that the inability to observe the formation of the new species means natural
selection is causing it, and the species never actually form, but as Coyne says, ...it s like saying that
because we haven t seen a single star go through its complete life cycle, stars don t evolve, or because
we haven t see a new language arise, languages don t evolve (183). Just because we aren t seeing the
new species form right away, it doesn t mean it isn t happening. As stated before, it can take a lot time

My Journey Of Reflection During Project 1
Upon my journey of reflection during project 1, I have realized that I value education. It s a way of not
only gaining knowledge but sharing it with others. This caused me to gain interest in finding
organizations for project 2 that relates to the idea of sharing knowledge and experiences. OU Cousin s
is an organization held on campus. Their purpose is to match international students with one American
student who shares the same interest, major, and hobbies. They encourage and promote the
involvement of students with each other to develop the understanding of different cultures and
experiences as well as creating new friendships. As reported on their website under the About Us
category, it says The OU Cousins program was created in 1996 by President and Mrs. David Boren as
a way of developing understanding, friendship, and unity among U.S., International, and exchange
students at the University of Oklahoma. . I found this very interesting because I m an international
student, and one of the most things I would love to do is share my culture with other people. A
majority of people assume negative or misleading thoughts about different cultures. People have
strong opinions and ways of thinking. That s why most international students always enjoy explaining
and sharing their experiences and beliefs about their cultures. Moreover, that is why I believe that OU
Cousins provides a great community for having a chance to educate one another about each other s

Factors That Caused the 1997 East Asian Financial Crisis
Factors That Caused the 1997 East Asia Financial Crisis Discuss the principal factors responsible for
the East Asian currency/financial crisis of 1997. In 1997, there occurred certain shifts in expectations
from the market. The regional contagion and confidence led to the East Asian financial turmoil. In
1990s, it had been reported that the microeconomic and macroeconomic businesses were not
performing as expected. The local and international investors had not held enough grips into the
looming financial challenges to be expected by the financial fragments. These investors panicked and
participated in fraudulent and faulty approaches and policies of operation in the market through the
influence of the International Monetary Fund together with the global financial body. The financial
policies, which were laid by the small businesses within the region, had failed to bring enough
financial performance in the local and international market. For instance, reports claim that these
businesses were not large enough to hold immense support to the structure of the economy in the
region. With time, the stability of the financial structure was brought to question. This was later
contributed by the influences obtained from the international financial bodies and the International
Monetary Fund committee (Corsetti, Pesenti, Roubini, 1999, p.305 6). The Asian financial crisis refers
to a period of the financial crisis that was experienced in Asia as at July 1997. This crisis

Hot Tin Roof Mendacity
The Term Mendacity And Its Thematic Contributions to Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tennessee Williams
[They are] all liars, all liars, all lying dying liars (2.1.985). The preceding is one of the most emotional
lines at the end of the second act in Tennessee Williams play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. It also succeeds
in setting the tone for the entire play. The story centers on a dysfunctional southern family who is
plagued by lies and deception. The closing of the second act is one of the most intense and critical
moments in the play where Big Daddy finds out his son, Gooper, and daughter in law, Mae, have been
lying to him about his rapidly declining health. Just before this gripping climax, however, Big Daddy
has an emotional conversation with his youngest son, Brick, about mendacity. This term is central to
the play s themes and is mentioned continuously throughout the play. Still, the lies and dishonesties
come from many different entities within the play. The roots of most problems the characters face in
the play come from mendacity within the society, their family and the characters themselves. Cat on a
Hot Tin Roof is set in the 1950 s, a time when society still considered homosexuality as a mental
disorder, as it was not removed from The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
(DSM) until 1973 (Drescher). In the play, it is repeatedly mentioned that Brick and his deceased friend

As with many things in life, it was the thing I d least expect it to be. Remember that sense of actuality
I mentioned? Well, in an ironic twist, the hard press for realism made the film feel muted and

household objects, their faces were more blended in. This eliminated the expressiveness that gave
Lumière (Ewan McGregor) Co. so much fun personality. I instantly became concerned about how the
reported Lion King adaption would look, presuming the plan was to use real animals. There were
multiple, effective close ups on the Beast s eyes to capture a sincere soul, but his whole picture lacked
authentic communicative quality. This was something better accomplished by the 1987 CBS television

Irony In The Outsiders
There are many mind boggling books made throughout history, but a book written by S.E. Hinton, The
Outsiders, melted the hearts of many. . In this book, there is so much conflict between the greasers and
socs culminated in violence and physical confrontations. Greasers are the people who live on the east
side of Tulsa with less money than middle and higher class. Socs are the higher class that have parties
while getting drunk and still being highly respected, unlike the greasers who are looked down at by
almost everyone. These differences are only the beginning, and most of the hostility between the socs
and greasers based on acts of revenge. The acts of revenge throughout the book, The Outsiders,
reveals external conflict, internal conflict, and irony. Revenge is a huge ... Show more content on

At the beginning of the book The Outsiders, Ponyboy got jumped and the soc that was holding the
knife said to Pony, Need a haircut greaser? When the soc said this snide comment, he meant it in a
humourous way, but he also was giving the vibe that he was gonna cut Pony s hair or hurt him. It is
also ironic how Johnny is a kind of Christ like figure in The Outsiders, Dally is symbolizes Judas, and
the rest of the gang symbolizes the apostles. Johnny gives up his life to save others, like Jesus did.
Dally could not handle the death of Johnny, so he killed himself, like Judas. The gang, like the
apostles, kept on living and telling the story of their deceased loved ones. Dally felt like it was his
fault that Johnny died, like Judas who killed himself because he turned Jesus in. One more thing that
is ironic is that Johnny killed Bob as an act of revenge for almost killing Ponyboy. It was a bad action
to kill Bob, but their bad actions lead them to a holy place, the church. These are examples of how
irony is associated with revenge in The

Is Huck Finn A Hero
What makes a true American hero? A hero is someone admired for their achievements and qualities, or
one who shows great courage. Heroes are looked up to by many for their selflessness or actions in
situations. In Mark Twain s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Huck Finn is a true hero. His actions
throughout the story help define him as such. Huckleberry Finn is a hero because he is clever, loyal,
and moral. One heroic characteristic of Huck is his cleverness. As young boy, he fakes his own death
to escape from his father. To fool everyone, Huck smartly kills a pig and spreads its blood around Pap
s cabin in an effort to make it appear as though robbers had murdered him. This scheme affords Huck
all the time he needs to make his getaway and makes everyone think that he s dead. Huck Finn
cleverly makes up stories to get himself out of trouble. For example, when a couple of men insist on
checking out Huck s raft, he pretends as though his father is sick with smallpox to keep the men from
getting too close. At the Grangerford s, Huck forgets his false name and tricks Buck Grangerford into
telling him. I bet you can t spell my name (Twain 75). Buck accepts the dare and spells out what Huck
said was his name. Huck is not only cunning, but also faithful to his friends. Huckleberry Finn is a
loyal person. While on Jackson s island, Huck warns Jim of a search party instead of turning him in.
Even though Huck is breaking the law, this early sign of loyalty toward Jim is

Home Can Be A Country
The definition of home is a subjective topic that I will only be able to touch the rim of for the word
goes far beyond what is written. Home can be a lot of different things. Home can mean a whole lot of
things to a whole lot of people. It can be the place the you grew. It can be the place where you sleep at
night. Home can be here and there. Home can quite frankly be anywhere. Home can be a structured
place with a roof and a bed. Home can be a place you just stepped into or in can be a place you have
lived your entire life. Home can be a country, a state, a city, or a street address. Home can be a person
or group of people, and your home consists of wherever they are. Home can simply be your family. It
can be where you are most comfortable or at peace. It can be where your heart longs to be or where it
in the literal since is at. Home can be many different things. So, what is the definition of home?
The definition of home is first taught to us in early childhood as the idea of it being a house,
apartment, or other shelter that is the usual residence of a person, family, or household. However, in
early childhood we would just simply say home is my house and the two words were used
interchangeably. When you type into the Google search bar, home, Google immediately asks below,
where s home? It has a slot to type in your address. To Google, home is the location of your house in
which you live. However, in my belief home is not as simple as that. Home is a concept of where

Comparing Dangerous Liaisons by Choderlos de Laclos and Cruel Intentions the Movie
It is my intention to compare the book, Dangerous Liaisons by Choderlos de Laclos, to its modern
movie version, Cruel Intentions starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. I intend to examine how the original
French text was modified in reference to plot, character, morals/values, and themes. I also plan to
discuss how these transformations change the meaning of the story and reflect different
cultural/historical contexts. There are some major differences between these two works, if only
because of when they were written. First, the plots of both works need to be discussed and explained
how they are different. The stories of both works have basically the same ... Show more content on

Cecile directly gets revenge on Catherine. In Dangerous Liaisons, she does not. This also relates to
cultural context. It shows how more independent women are in the modern world. In Dangerous
Liaisons, Tourvel dies of misery and Cecile goes into the convent. This shows that women were much
weaker and less independent in society in the late 1700s. The last scene in the movie shows Annette
driving off in Sebastian s expensive car. This is a typical ending to a modern story. In the book, her
character dies, but in the movie, she is the vengeful, independent woman. It is apparent that the morals
and values of both works change because of their cultural and historical context. Dangerous Liaisons
was basically written to teach young women in society what not to do. This kind of literature was
looked down upon at the time it was written.
In 1824 a decree of the cour royale de Paris condemned it to be destroyed as dangerous . This verdict
remained the official one throughout the later nineteenth century. The book was spoken of only to be
deplored: a picture of the most odious immortality, that should never have been revealed even
supposing it had been true , a work of revolting immorality , a book to be admired and execrated .
(Laclos, p. 7)
It was considered to be an immoral book. The movie was made mainly for entertainment purposes.
Since we basically live in an immoral society, it was well accepted as a good movie. Although the
schemes that Catherine

Essay On Lance Armstrong
Lance Armstrong
Lance Armstrong was born September 18, 1971 in Plano, Texas. Armstrong was always athletic and
had quickly discovered that he had a love for triathlons, particularly cycling. By the age of ten he
began running and swimming, and at age thirteen he started competing in cycling and triathlons (Osei
Hwere). By the age of sixteen Lance Armstrong was a professional tri athlete and was the national
sprint course triathlon champion (Osei Hwere). Armstrong chose to focus on cycling because it was
his passion and the event that he was best at. He trained with the U.S. Olympic team in Colorado
Springs. He qualified for the 1990 junior world team, where not only did he place eleventh in Road
Racing, but he also finished with the best ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Lance Armstrong Foundation has raised almost $500 million and has helped more than 2.5
million people dealing with cancer (Osei Hwere).
After Armstrong s struggle with cancer, and his recovery, Armstrong took two years to retrain in order
to return to professional cycling. Two short years after being declared cancer free, Armstrong
participated in the Tour De France, and won. Armstrong would go on to win the next six consecutive
Tour De France races, making him the only participant to hold the honor of winning seven Tour De
France titles in a row (Sanderson). According to the article Riding Along with Lance Armstrong In
June 2012 the U.S. Anti Doping Agency (USADA) filed charges against Armstrong for violating its
performance enhancing drugs (PEDS) policies and claimed to have a growing amount of evidence
against him (Sanderson). Lance Armstrong was a legendary athlete for over a decade. However, in the
end he lost everything due to his decision to participate in unethical activities and use doping to win.
Hidden behind the scenes of exceptional performances Lance Armstrong was committing many
unethical activities. Armstrong used performance enhancing EPO, steroids, growth hormones, and
oxygen boosting blood transfusions (Osei Hwere). Many of these unethical activities can be classified
under the categories of lying, cheating and fraud, and abusive and intimidating behavior. The
definition of lying is intending to deceive

Fahrenheit 451 Title Analysis
Relations to section names and the plot of Fahrenheit 451
The title of the novel is the temperature at which paper burns, which ties into a plot about burning of
books. Fahrenheit 451, written by Ray Bradbury, is set in a dystopian society. In this dystopian world,
Guy Montag, the protagonist, is a fireman. Montag meets free thinking Clarisse, who asks him if he
his happy. After pondering this he realizes that he is not happy. On the job, he goes to a woman s
house. She refuses to leave her books and dies with them. Montag is shaken and he steals a book from
the scene. Back home, he reveals to Mildred that he has a hidden stash of books. Montag hopes that
books can somehow help him overcome the numbness he feels. He seeks help from Faber, a ... Show

When thinking of a flame most people think of a campfire. When starting a fire it starts with a spark,
but very dull. As it continues to grow it gains a brighter light, the novel is just like this. The rebellion
in Montag s heart is very dull, but by the end, it is a bright bonfire. Most of the kindling is collected
and put onto the fire at this part. When he has to burn down his own house it makes it so he has
nothing to lose, it shows that he is like a phoenix. The novel says that he felt like his old life was
buried under the debris (Bradbury 118). He is reborn as not the old Montag that society wanted, but
the true Montag that has been hiding inside of him, waiting to burst free. The true Montag gains a
brighter fire while talking to the book people. They nurture him in the short time the novel shows
them together. They bring about his fire, but it is not them that brings the brightest point of Montage,
it is the bombing of the city. The bombing causes it so Montag can remember what he has read, and
that is the highest point of his fire (Bradburry 165). He has a purpose, a better one than book burning,
and he knows

Gearing ratio represents the contribution of long term lenders to the long term capital structure of a

Lebron Runs The Show Case Study
LeBron Runs the Show and He Should
The hundreds of millions of dollars that LeBron James brings into the Cleveland Cavaliers
organization and the city of Cleveland each year justifies his influence on front office decisions.
LeBron James has been criticized this past week over the firing of Cleveland Cavaliers head coach,
David Blatt. Ever since Blatt was fired, LeBron has denied the allegations that he had any
involvement in the decision. It has been recently reported that a source close to Blatt says that it was
1,000 percent LeBron . This leads to questions about LeBron s power within the Cavaliers
organization. Who really runs the organization: LeBron or General Manager, David Griffin? I tend to
side with the argument that LeBron has a stronger voice in the Cavaliers decision making than some
people might think, but more importantly, I argue that LeBron should have that kind of power. LeBron
should run the show. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This summer, he signed a max contract of just under $47 million for two years, which averages out to
be about $23.5 million a year. If the NBA did not have a salary cap, I can assure you that he would be
making a lot more money with all of the revenue that he brings to the team.
Before LeBron James made his NBA debut in 2003, the average attendance for a Cav s game was
11,497 and the team was valued at $222 million. In 2010, just before LeBron made the decision to
leave the Cavs to join the Miami Heat, the team had an average attendance of 20,562 and the team was
valued at $476 million. From 2003 2010, the Cav s raised annual revenue from $72 million a year to
$160 million. This increase in revenue came from increase in postseason play, ticket sales,
merchandise, and more. It is astonishing that one player could double the attendance, revenue, and
team value, all in seven years.

  • 2. Dystopian Differences In The Hunger Games And The Hunger... Dystopian films and books have become popular over the past few years. These tend to reflect the way in which society could possibly soon turn if expecting extremes. Dystopian literature and media also tend to have utopian elements as well. While the societies in these works are strict and controlling, they do offer something that our society could possibly benefit from. Divergent has this element. The population is broken up into five factions that represent the different types of people in society and separate those who would fight easily due to their personal morals. The Hunger Games on the other hand (when modern society crumbled) they punished their citizens for fighting the government. While yes there was a chance for riches in the Hunger Games, it took risking your life to get it. In addition, if one did win the Hunger Games they would have an extremely easy life due to riches and a free luxury house. Divergent does not have this part, as its utopian aspect is the fact different ideals are separated from each other. Utopian literature is a reflection that is a perceived direction society may go. In these stories, mirrors are a device used to symbolically state the universe of the film is a reflection not a reality. The Hunger Games series is based of the book trilogy of the same name. In this series, the Hunger Games are a pageant based on a punishment for a rebellion that occurred approximately 100 years before. In this pageant, two tributes are chosen per district ... • 3. Essay about The History of Rock The History of Rock As one of the most popular music genres, rock music has grown and expanded to incorporate many styles throughout the years. A rock band usually consists of a vocalist, an acoustic drum kit played with a strong beat, usually a back beat, and features electric and acoustic guitars. From its beginnings in the late 1950s and early 1960s until the present day, rock has changed styles seemingly every decade as new bands become popular because of their unique style of music. Throughout the years rock has influenced our culture and helped shape the world we live in today. Rock and roll was born in the late 1950s. Primary influenced from southern artists like Elvis Presley and Bill Haley, this new genre of music though ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This led to the involvement of orchestral instruments in rock. Punk rock became popular due to the record industry s split from the major recording companies. Smaller independent recording labels indorsed underground artists. This divided mainstream rock, like Elvis Presley, and alternative rock, like The Grateful Dead. Other hard rock groups that got there start in the 1970s were Kiss, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Rush, Journey, and Van Halen. The mid to late 1970s brought about a slow but steady change in punk rock. With the advent of heavy metal and punk rock bands an explosion of new rock genres emerged. The change was started by three bands from New York. The New York Dolls, the Dictators and the Ramones started a new trend that quickly spread throughout Europe and the rest of the world. It slowly caught on in the US and when it finally did the hardcore form of punk rock became a national expression for millions of teens and young adults for the next two decades. The merging of heavy metal and punk rock was bound to happen. Although attempted in 1978 by the Ramones, bands from Las Angeles became the first to successfully complete the crossover into punk metal. In the early 1980s, alternative rock bands like REM began to get a lot of airtime on college radio stations and appearances on MTV and other TV settings. Before long numerous alternative radio stations appeared ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Competitive Characters In The Odyssey My goal of competing in a 5k is like odysseus s journey home because I am training very hard and sometimes I plateau and even have to backtrack to see progress to where finally I will achieve my ultimate goal. There are assertive characters in The Odyssey that stand out to me and represent my training and the hard road it is. The characters I chose were Athena, the Cyclops, the Lotus Eaters and Odysseus. These characters imitate my training because they all serve as a symbol for each part of practicing for the 5k. Athena, Athena is a very important character in the book The Odyssey because she is Odysseus s coach to get him back to his wife and son at home. My Athena as a part of my guidance is probably my mom or my brother. My mom is essential as to getting the food I need to stay healthy and to increase my performance as well as keep encouraging me to do my absolute best. My brother is more of the trainer to where he pushes me to the limits and advises on what to do what not to do and things like that. Either way they both find a way to keep me on track to reach my goal of competing in and completing a 5k. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once trust is broken, it becomes difficult to move forward in life and trust new people.Individuals must be cautious in the ways trust will affect their life. In the novel Dark Inside by Jeyn Roberts, the main characters often contemplate if there are other people going through the same traumatising moments as they are, and whether they would be considered trustworthy. These characters go through many times of struggle, confusion, and bravery in order to find out whether the path they travel on will lead them to victory, or traps they will regret falling into. This quote specifically proves that Twiggy betrayed Mason s trust by tricking him into thinking he was a good man, while also violently cracking a glass mug over Mason s head. We ll find you. You ll never never hide long enough. We ll find you and kill each and every last one of you. All alone. Run, Mr. Dowell (172). Mason definitely knows his trust for Twiggy has gone out the window after experiencing Twiggy s terrifying threats, which makes Mason contemplate whether meeting new people would be a smart move, or just another mistake similar to the one he makes with Twiggy. It allowed for the human race to bend and twist to accommodate to our needs. Death s touch became a mere gesture we can avoid most of the time. Although we stand at the forefront of human advancement, we are still held back. Genetic engineering, the direct modification of DNA, is the solution to the problems we continuously encounter today. Eventually if this type of genetic engineering is used on most of the world population, diseases such as cancer, Ebola, AIDS, and polio would completely disappear. Disorders like schizophrenia, diabetes, and asthma could also be wiped out of the gene pool altogether. Thus, the health of the future generations to come would be exceedingly enhanced. Besides becoming immune to illness, genetic engineering can change the course of human fate. The average lifespan of a person is around 70 years, but this can be extended by more years with genetic engineering. It doesn t have to stop there. Not only would the life of a single person be longer, but they would be able to keep their youth for much longer. Zehmer s outward expressions and words constituted a genuine offer to sell. The outwardly demonstrated intent is all the court looks at, not the secret and inward thought of the defendant. A contract cannot be done in passing or when absent minded. Both parts have to come to mutual understanding and agreement (Melvin, 2011). Lucy demonstrated her intent by ensuring that details were in the contract (illustrated by several drafts that were written), and by ensuring both husband and wife signed the contract (Lucy v. It was BTT that deferred the signing without rejecting the contract for several months. 3) The mail rule and their communication by faster email reveal that they both had many opportunities within any given period to make adjustments, counter offers, or even reject the deal without it going on for such a long period (Melvin, 2011). 4) Chou s neglect to follow through with a contract could make the deal unenforceable. The statute of frauds requires some information to be written down and signed. I had to move between classes, and had to study many subjects that I have never study before, or even know its existence. I could not listen to all of my teacher s instruction, and I did not understand some of them at all. Language barrier was still an obstacle for me to conquer the subjects. Lunch time has always been a great time until now and I hope my time in the cafeteria each day could be longer. The beautiful smell and taste of food of my first lunch at CCA were so wonderful that in the next days, they are the only things in my mind at the first four hours. Net present value (at 15% cost of capital): $286,000 The proposal seems to be an attractive one due to the fact that there seems to be a need in the district for this particular district to have the ability to perform some preproduction processing which is beneficial to local customers. Weaknesses: * There is no incentive for a division to expand to the point where the marginal return on investment equals the cost of capital. Since by evaluating on ROA alone could be fine in the short run, but a manager does not have incentive to grow a business by purchasing more assets. Maybe instead of basing the performance evaluation solely on ROA also base the performance on the growth of the district as well and how the district manager contributed to the growth. 4.In deciding the investment base for evaluating managers of investment centers, the general question is: What practices will motivate that district managers to use their assets most efficiently and to acquire the proper amount and kind of new assets? Presumably, when his ROA is being measured, the district manager will try to increase his ROA, and we desire that the actions he takes toward this end be actions that are in the vest interest of the whole corporation. Given this general line of reasoning, evaluate the way Quality computes the investment base for its districts. • 16. Essay on Christina Rossetti’s Goblin Market Christina Rossetti s poem, Goblin Market, was written in the Victorian era during a time of vast social change across Europe. Though the Victorian period was a time of female suppression and order, Rossetti exposed social stigmas and ideologies that are displayed through the journey of two sisters, Laura and Lizzie. Despite initial impressions of a childhood fairytale, the suggestive and multi interpretive use of language signifies an underlying message of erotic sexual commentary and feminist views. In addition, Rossetti conveys moral lessons by illustrating consequences of the goblin s seduction. Through the sister s experience with the goblins, the power of sisterhood becomes undeniable. Ironically, Rossetti s portrayal of seduction is in stark contrast to accepted notions of the Victorian period in that the male characters signify dangerous temptation, not the troubled females. The goblin men confirm this contradiction by representing the venomous effects that experienced seductive men have on innocent naive women. Rossetti s ironic gender split exemplifies her progressive attitude of feminist thought while also serving as a depiction on the principles of Victorian society. In addition, the feminist view of sexuality is evident throughout Rossetti s poem. Laura and Lizzie s magical experience portrays the pursuit for sensual awareness while struggling between physical identity and spiritual salvation. Furthermore, She clipped a precious golden lock, she dropped a tear more rare than pearl, then sucked their fruit globes fair or red, sweeter than honey from the rock (ll. 126 29) and sucked until her lips were sore (l. 136). With blatant sexual undertones, this pivotal moment signifies the character s transition from maiden to woman or innocence to experience. Additionally, this exchange could be a metaphor for Laura s relinquishment of her sacred virginity. As Laura falls sicker and slowly begins to deteriorate, Rossetti illustrates the consequences of succumbing to the temptation of men s deceit and the importance of remaining pure. • 18. Gender Beliefs Of Gender Bias In The Workplace Gender Bias in the Workplace Brittney A. Bray College of Central Florida Stereotypes Women have long fought for the right to be viewed as equal within the work place. Over the past decades the percentage of women in management has risen from a mere 13.8% in 1950 to 50.6% in 2007 (Latu, 2000). However, gender stereotype bias and discrimination are still present in the modern workforce. Gender stereotypes are beliefs of how men and women should be and act. When evaluators don t have clear criteria, ambiguity causes gender stereotypes to fill the voids. Leading to differences in the way men and women are evaluated. This happens, in most cases, on an unconscious level, though it does still occur consciously. It has been shown by psychologists that we routinely categorize individuals within milliseconds of meeting them, we classify them by their gender. In doing this we assume they will possess certain gender role traits, either feminine or masculine. Men are expected to have strong leadership traits, while women are known to have nurturing, submissive qualities. The cause of gender discrimination is based on cultural beliefs and organizational policies. Women are most vulnerable to gender discrimination and sexual harassment when they are in a male dominated environment, they may also be perceived as a threat. Gita can be read by the people of all religions. It was narrated by Lord Krishna to prince Arjuna in Mahabharatha. The narration happens in the battlefield of kurukshethra. Arjuna was to fight against his cousins kauravas in the war, which he was not able to do because of family bonding, this is when Krishna explains him the purpose of life and the way to attain eternity. In bhagavad gita Krishna explains how the entire cycle of life works and what a person should do to attain eternity. Though the gita was narrated 5000 years ago, it is still relevant to the modern age life of mankind and guides us to eternity, this is explained in this thesis statement. Gita on Family bonding: In the first chapter of gita when Arjuna hesitates to fight against his cousins, Krishna explains him about the family bonding. He says that only when a person comes out of the family bonding and does his duty properly he will be able to attain eternity. He explains the aim of Arjuna s birth. Arjuna was born to fight this battle and destroy the evil. He has to see the evil in the kauravas, instead of seeing them as his cousin brothers. Only then he can fight the evil and destroy it. Krishna clearly explains why family bonding should not be a hurdle in doing ones duties. This is true in this current age of mankind also. The Genealogy Of Morals By Friedrich Nietzsche Essay PHIL 2030 Final Essay Alex Vanden Heuvel, Professor Lay, Fall Semester 2016 Responding to Prompt 1 On the Genealogy of Morals by Friedrich Nietzsche is typically listed as one of the most important philosophical works of the modern era. It is only modern, of course, to philosophical standards, being a mere 129 years old. It is also one of the most controversial works of its time, having the dubious distinction of being connected to Nazi ideology; it also has a not very subtle racist, sexist, and Darwinist bent that is a reflection of Nietzsche himself. That being said, I think that it is also serially misunderstood. Nietzsche directly mentions the role of interpretation in ethical discourse in the Genealogy, and the interpretive element factors heavily into one s understanding of the polemic and by extension, ethics philosophy as a whole. Throughout the book, Nietzsche uses interpretation as a tool in itself to make a constructivist and existentialist argument about the history of ethics as whole. His idea that man has used interpretation throughout history, and the interpretive elements in Genealogy outside of the historical analysis, seem to say that almost all ethics are derived from interpretation and therefore constructivist in nature, which is a heavily existentialist argument. For example, the entirety of the first essay is based heavily upon the role of interpretation in the development of the early ethical systems that Nietzsche argues are built on the ... The alkali metals have a single electron in their outer electron shell, making it easy for them to become a noble gas and period down the periodic table the easier it is to get rid of the extra electron, causing the alkali metals to become more reactive the further down the periods. To become a noble gas a halogen must gain an electron, the farther away the outer shell is from the nucleus, the more energy that is required for an electron to enter the shell. Halogens need one more electron to become a noble gas, while alkali metals need to donate an electron to become a noble gas. (Johnsonburg High School, n.d.) Fig 1. • 36. Factors That Caused the 1997 East Asian Financial Crisis Factors That Caused the 1997 East Asia Financial Crisis Discuss the principal factors responsible for the East Asian currency/financial crisis of 1997. In 1997, there occurred certain shifts in expectations from the market. The regional contagion and confidence led to the East Asian financial turmoil. In 1990s, it had been reported that the microeconomic and macroeconomic businesses were not performing as expected. The local and international investors had not held enough grips into the looming financial challenges to be expected by the financial fragments. These investors panicked and participated in fraudulent and faulty approaches and policies of operation in the market through the influence of the International Monetary Fund together with the global financial body. The financial policies, which were laid by the small businesses within the region, had failed to bring enough financial performance in the local and international market. For instance, reports claim that these businesses were not large enough to hold immense support to the structure of the economy in the region. With time, the stability of the financial structure was brought to question. This was later contributed by the influences obtained from the international financial bodies and the International Monetary Fund committee (Corsetti, Pesenti, Roubini, 1999, p.305 6). The Asian financial crisis refers to a period of the financial crisis that was experienced in Asia as at July 1997. This crisis ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Hot Tin Roof Mendacity The Term Mendacity And Its Thematic Contributions to Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tennessee Williams [They are] all liars, all liars, all lying dying liars (2.1.985). The preceding is one of the most emotional lines at the end of the second act in Tennessee Williams play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. It also succeeds in setting the tone for the entire play. The story centers on a dysfunctional southern family who is plagued by lies and deception. The closing of the second act is one of the most intense and critical moments in the play where Big Daddy finds out his son, Gooper, and daughter in law, Mae, have been lying to him about his rapidly declining health. Just before this gripping climax, however, Big Daddy has an emotional conversation with his youngest son, Brick, about mendacity. This term is central to the play s themes and is mentioned continuously throughout the play. Still, the lies and dishonesties come from many different entities within the play. The roots of most problems the characters face in the play come from mendacity within the society, their family and the characters themselves. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is set in the 1950 s, a time when society still considered homosexuality as a mental disorder, as it was not removed from The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) until 1973 (Drescher). In the play, it is repeatedly mentioned that Brick and his deceased friend Skipper may have had feelings for each other that were deeper than those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing Bill Condon s Beauty And The Beast Given the ever enchanting character of animated Disney films, the idea of any of them being adapted into live action has me salivating because the possibilities are endless. If drawn figures can be so splendid, you can only imagine how they d be with any sense of actuality. I m a part of the Little Mermaid Aladdin Lion King generation, so I was drooling worse than Beethoven the dog when I heard Beauty The Beast was going to be done. My giddiness reached epic, Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic proportions upon hearing the director was Bill Condon, who authored magic with 2006 s DreamGirls (which I raved about in a December anniversary article). As with many things in life, it was the thing I d least expect it to be. Remember that sense of actuality I mentioned? Well, in an ironic twist, the hard press for realism made the film feel muted and unaffected for a great part of it. To make it believable that the Beast s staff had been turned into household objects, their faces were more blended in. This eliminated the expressiveness that gave Lumière (Ewan McGregor) Co. so much fun personality. I instantly became concerned about how the reported Lion King adaption would look, presuming the plan was to use real animals. There were multiple, effective close ups on the Beast s eyes to capture a sincere soul, but his whole picture lacked authentic communicative quality. This was something better accomplished by the 1987 CBS television series starring The Terminator s Linda Hamilton. Use of computer generated imagery (CGI) for this project was anticipated, and the effects were beautiful, but the manufacturing was too apparent at times. Call me nit picky, but there was a certain, breathing liveliness that wasn t successfully reproduced. • 42. Is Huck Finn A Hero What makes a true American hero? A hero is someone admired for their achievements and qualities, or one who shows great courage. Heroes are looked up to by many for their selflessness or actions in situations. In Mark Twain s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Huck Finn is a true hero. His actions throughout the story help define him as such. Huckleberry Finn is a hero because he is clever, loyal, and moral. One heroic characteristic of Huck is his cleverness. As young boy, he fakes his own death to escape from his father. To fool everyone, Huck smartly kills a pig and spreads its blood around Pap s cabin in an effort to make it appear as though robbers had murdered him. This scheme affords Huck all the time he needs to make his getaway and makes everyone think that he s dead. Huck Finn cleverly makes up stories to get himself out of trouble. For example, when a couple of men insist on checking out Huck s raft, he pretends as though his father is sick with smallpox to keep the men from getting too close. At the Grangerford s, Huck forgets his false name and tricks Buck Grangerford into telling him. I bet you can t spell my name (Twain 75). Buck accepts the dare and spells out what Huck said was his name. Huck is not only cunning, but also faithful to his friends. Huckleberry Finn is a loyal person. Home can be here and there. Home can quite frankly be anywhere. Home can be a structured place with a roof and a bed. Home can be a place you just stepped into or in can be a place you have lived your entire life. Home can be a country, a state, a city, or a street address. It can be where your heart longs to be or where it in the literal since is at. Home can be many different things. So, what is the definition of home? The definition of home is first taught to us in early childhood as the idea of it being a house, apartment, or other shelter that is the usual residence of a person, family, or household. However, in early childhood we would just simply say home is my house and the two words were used interchangeably. When you type into the Google search bar, home, Google immediately asks below, where s home? It has a slot to type in your address. To Google, home is the location of your house in which you live. Comparing Dangerous Liaisons by Choderlos de Laclos and Cruel Intentions the Movie It is my intention to compare the book, Dangerous Liaisons by Choderlos de Laclos, to its modern movie version, Cruel Intentions starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. I intend to examine how the original French text was modified in reference to plot, character, morals/values, and themes. I also plan to discuss how these transformations change the meaning of the story and reflect different cultural/historical contexts. There are some major differences between these two works, if only because of when they were written. First, the plots of both works need to be discussed and explained how they are different. The stories of both works have basically the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cecile directly gets revenge on Catherine. In Dangerous Liaisons, she does not. This also relates to cultural context. It shows how more independent women are in the modern world. In Dangerous Liaisons, Tourvel dies of misery and Cecile goes into the convent. This shows that women were much weaker and less independent in society in the late 1700s. The last scene in the movie shows Annette driving off in Sebastian s expensive car. This is a typical ending to a modern story. In the book, her character dies, but in the movie, she is the vengeful, independent woman. It is apparent that the morals and values of both works change because of their cultural and historical context. Dangerous Liaisons was basically written to teach young women in society what not to do. This kind of literature was looked down upon at the time it was written. In 1824 a decree of the cour royale de Paris condemned it to be destroyed as dangerous . This verdict remained the official one throughout the later nineteenth century. The book was spoken of only to be deplored: a picture of the most odious immortality, that should never have been revealed even supposing it had been true , a work of revolting immorality , a book to be admired and execrated . (Laclos, p. 7) It was considered to be an immoral book. The movie was made mainly for entertainment purposes. Since we basically live in an immoral society, it was well accepted as a good movie.
