Tennessee State Parks
Tennessee State Parks The State of Tennessee is rooted in the Watauga Association, a 1772 frontier
pact that is generally regarded as the first constitutional government west of the Appalachians.
Following the war of 1812 Tennessee was given the nicknamed the Volunteer State it was given this
nickname due to the prominent role played by the volunteer soldiers from Tennessee. Tennessee has a
current population of 6.5 million citizens composed of a diverse group of people leading to diversity
in recreation opportunity needs. This diversity in recreation needs are placed on the state parks system
which works to meet these needs. The powers of state are divided into three distinct branches, the
legislative, the executive, and the judicial by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tennessee receives the fifth greatest amount in overall General Fund support in the nation. The
average percent of other states operating budget amount provided by the General Fund is closer to
40%. Tennessee is one of eight states nationwide and two in the southeast whose park system is free to
the public. Also, Tennessee is one of ten states that do not have a dedicated funding mechanism for
their state parks. Dedicated funding is when funds gained from a certain product are set aside to go to
a certain good, examples of dedicated funding are licenses, severance tax, restrictions, leases, and
many others; an example of a state with a dedicated funding mechanism is Virginia, which dedicates
the revenue from timber sales. Tennessee derives capital expenditures for its state park investments
from the General Fund and is the only state to do so. Most states do this through the issue of bonds or
draw on dedicated funds for investments in their state park facilities. (Tennessee Support for State

Tap Water Contains A Wide Variety Of Organic And Inorganic
Tap water contains a wide variety of organic and inorganic materials, most of which are innocuous.
However, some trace constituents in water, including heavy metals such as copper, zinc, cadmium and
lead, are more problematic. Water leaving a drinking water purification plant will ordinarily contain
negligible levels of lead and other harmful metals. These metals enter the water during distribution,
through the corrosion of service pipes and plumbing in a process called leaching. Metals such as lead
can leach from pipes, old solder or fixtures. Although some corrosion of plumbing is inevitable, the
severity of leaching depends on the material of the pipes, the corrosivity and temperature of water and
the amount of time water is stagnant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of these, the Flint Michigan water crises was the most publicized, as it was exposed through media
attention after delayed action from the EPA and state government, and only after widespread elevation
in blood lead levels (EBLL) of residents had induced long term and even permanent health
consequences (Romain, 2016).
As a result of increased public concern regarding water quality following the Flint Michigan water
crisis, Chicago Public Schools began a water testing program to analyze lead levels in drinking water.
Of 527 schools in the CPS system, 327 CPS campuses were tested by Chicago Public School s Water
Testing Program in spring of 2016. Analysis of water in these schools, conducted by the EPA, revealed
that of the 6,167 water fixtures tested on these campuses, 184 fixtures from 113 schools returned with
levels above the lead action level of 15 parts per billion (ppb). In total, 34.56% of the initially tested
campuses had at least one fixture that exceeded EPA action levels (Chicago Public Schools, 20161).
The CPS school selected for testing in this research project was not tested in the initial round of
testing in spring of 2016. However, the selected school was tested the following school year, in
October of 2017. Results from the CPS testing indicated that none of the school s fixtures exceeded
15ppb, however, lead levels below EPA action level were found, ranging from 2.1ppb to 11ppb. Of the
69 fountains tested, 22%

African American Empire
Debuting January 7th 2015, Empire has become the most popular television series in the history of the
FOX network. Empire is based around hip hop mogul, Lucious Lyon, played by Terrence Howard,
who goes from rags to riches. Early on in the series Lucious is diagnosed with ALS. According to the
ALS Association, ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig s disease, is a nervous system disease that weakens
the muscles and impacts physical functions. ALS is incurable and Lucious is preparing to die. Before
he dies, he must choose among his three sons Andre, Jamal, and Hakeem, on who he will leave his
infamous music record label, Empire. The drama doesn t stop there. Within the series Cookie Lyon,

He is using the character of Jamal to do so. Through the character of Jamal, Daniels is showing how
hard it can be for an African American man to be gay. They get disowned by ones that should love,
cherish, and protect them and they do not get treated with respect in the society. Daniels also uses the
relationship between Jamal and Luscious to channel Beliefs and Values of homophobia in the African
American community. In the article, Five Key Questions of Media Literacy, it states that media of all
kinds carry messages about whom and what is important those are the belief and values that the media
is sending . Lucious believes that Empire s fans will not approve of Jamal s sexuality and encourages
him to keep his sexual orientation hidden to prevent harming the reputation of Empire. During the
fourth episode, Lucious threatens to stop supporting Jamal all together if he decides to reveal his
sexuality. Jamal then moves out of the apartment that his father is paying for because he realizes that
by continuing to allow his father to pay for his living expenses is giving his father the right to make
demands about what he think is best for Jamal. This then starts a war between the two. Jamal becomes
more focused on himself and his freedom and Lucious does whatever he can to keep Jamal from the
media, even prevented him from releasing

The Awakening as an Allegory of Existentialism Essay
The Awakening as an Allegory of Existentialism
Kate Chopin s The Awakening as the title suggests is just that‹the story of a young woman s
awakening to life. Even though it is a work of fiction, the character of Edna undergoes such a radical
change one cannot ignore the psychological depth of the work. The story could almost be seen as a
case study. In order to analyze the work psychologically, it is important to decide which psychological
framework to use. I chose the critic Cynthia Wolff who uses a Freudian framework for analysis. Wolff
feels that Edna s problems are a result of oral conflicts, while I see the work as more of an allegory of
existentialism, and Edna s problems are a result of a lack of Being. ... Show more content on

Most people pass through this stage without any conflict, and this allows them to move on to the
formation of a more complex self.
Wolff believes that Edna s central problem once the hidden self begins to exert its inexorable power, is
that her libidinal appetite has been fixated at the oral level (Wolff 232), meaning that on some level
she has begun to move beyond the oral stage. The first evidence we have of this is when she kisses
Arobin. This is an act of fulfillment on the genital level. Edna has recognized her libidinal needs, but
this does not seem to give her the satisfaction she craves. This longing is not a desire for a particular
man, but the presence of the beloved (Wolff 233). She recognizes an emptiness within her and like
anyone else has a strong need to fill it.
Edna tries to satisfy this new sensation of emptiness, but she is not sure what it is that needs to be
satisfied. There is a void that has begun to open up in her life, and she tries several ways of filling it.
She attempts to go back to painting, she moves out of her house and even has an affair. Her painting is
still an attempt at internalizing the world around her: Edna s painting might offer her an excellent and
viable mode for coming to terms with the insistent demands of cosmic yearning. For one thing, it
utilizes in an effective way her habit of

Compassion In The Holocaust
Compassion is defined as sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others. In
this case the idea of compassion could have changed the history of the world. The Holocaust was the
killing of millions of Jews and other people by the Nazi s during World War 2.This was truly based
upon hatred of a religous group, and wouldn t be possible without Adolf Hitler, the leader of Nazi
Germany. Until a certain point no one was showing compassion for the people being terrorized by this
tyrant. It is unknown to historians that during this time period the people didn t know what was
happening, or they didn t want to believe what was happening. With that being said, could compassion
have been a key factor in stopping the Holocaust earlier than it already was?

During the early stages of the Holocaust a boat of refugees escaped Nazi Germany and fled to the
United States. As they arrived the U.S immediately told the boat to return to Germany. How could my
country be so cold blooded? They sent them back to be brutally murdered or sent to concentration
camps. The lack of compassion at the beginning of the Holocaust was clearly shown here. This was a
chance to save hundreds of people from the Nazi s. The U.S wasn t able to accept what was occurring
on the other half of the world. Which lead them to showing no compassion for the refugees leading to
even more casualties during this terrifying time period. The times that compassion has ever effected

Pneumonia Is A Serious Disease
Introduction Globally, pneumonia is a serious disease that more often than not results in death.
However, with the exception of drug resistant strains, pneumonia is very preventable and easily
treated if caught early in the disease process. This is a summary of the disease process, clinical
presentation, and patient education about pneumonia. Pathophysiology Pneumonia is an infection of
the alveoli inside the lungs. It can have many causes including bacteria, viruses, fungi, or it may be a
consequence of another disease. The infection causes a purulent film to line the alveoli, which inhibits
gas exchange. It can be isolated to one lobe of the lungs (lobar pneumonia) or affect many areas of the
lungs (bronchopneumonia). The alveoli play the key role in gas exchange in the body and patients
may present with headache, vomiting and sweating, cough, dyspnea, and pleuritic pain. Causes
Pneumonia can have a variety of causes but the most common causes are viruses and bacteria.
Bacterial pneumonia is commonly caused by natural occurring bacteria that reside in the upper
respiratory tract and either through airborne droplet or defective defense mechanisms is able to
migrate into the lower respiratory tract and cause infection (Driver, 2014). Nair and Niederman found
the most common causes of bacterial pneumonia are Streptococcus pneumonia, Haemophilus
influenza type b, and Moraxella catarrhalis (2011). Viral pneumonia is generally caused by organisms
that originate in the

Developmental Psychology Of Harry Potter
Developmental Psychology of Harry Potter Harry Potter is a fictional character invented by J.K
Rowling in the series of seven books starting with Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone and
ending with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Wikipedia, 2015). Harry is the main character in
this series whose parents died when he was young and he was brought up by his aunt and uncle
(Philosopher s Stone, 1997, p.5). Harry was neglected by his aunt and uncle (Philosopher s Stone,
1997, p.27). Harry is presented a whole new reality when he goes to the zoo one day and his
integration into the magical world changes him from the foundation. These changes within him will be
analysed using the developmental psychology theories of Lawrence Kohlberg and Erik Erikson to
explain how the environment aided or obstructed Harry s development. Using Kohlberg s moral
development theory, one can judge how Harry s moral reasoning develops as he aged. Harry was in
first stage of moral reasoning when he lived with his aunt and uncle as he was unable to judge good
from bad demonstrated through Harry compliance his uncle s rules. On Dudley s birthday, Harry s
uncle warned him not to misbehave in public and Harry had to obey his uncle s command or risk
being punished as demonstrated by the following quote. Harry didn t know what time it was and he
couldn t be sure the Dursleys were asleep yet. Until they were, he couldn t risk sneaking to the kitchen
for some food (Philosopher s Stone, 1997,

The Causes And Uses Of Homeschooled Students In Society
Why is it that we rarely acknowledge homeschooled students for who they are in this society? Is it
because they are different from the run of the mill students that attend public schools? It could very
well be that they are misjudged because so many people are not informed on homeschooling. If so, the
majority of homeschooled students around the nation feel like outsiders simply because society has
not taken the time to understand and provide for them. But, one should not feel ashamed as around
3.4% of the all K 12 students in America are homeschooled, (Ray). It is reasonable for such a small
population to feel like a group of outsiders when everyone else has not been apart of this experience.
Fortunately, there are various methods of tackling this problem; diagnosing this issue is the most
beneficial of all. Thus, homeschoolers are outsiders because others do not fully understand the setting
they are taught in, the education they receive, and the reasons behind why they are being
homeschooled in the first place. Children who are homeschooled tend to be outsiders because people
misjudge them based on the setting they are in. It is believed that homeschoolers do not receive the
same kind of socialization that students in public schools do. As a result, they are treated differently
because of the setting they were taught in; it is completely different from that of a public school.
Secondly, there is a misconception that homeschoolers do not participate in the outside world,

The Westing Game Movie And Book Comparison Essay
Two hundred million dollars, that s what the heirs had a chance of winning if they could solve the
puzzle. The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin is a book full of excitement and mystery. The puzzles and
all kinds of clues and very controversial decisions are made. The Westing Game book and movie
contain many similarities and differences that are worth staying for.
The novel and the movie are very different,in a unique way. The book is a story where there are 16
heirs and they all tell their own part of the story. The movie only has 10 heirs and Turtle is telling
everyone who each heir is. Even though the book and the movie have many differences there are even
more similarities.

There was no Theo Theodorakis or D.Denton Deere, Dr.Deere was in the movie for a little bit but didn

Why I Hate Running
Although I hate running just as much as the next sane person, there is still a place that I can go that
makes me fall in love with running just as a toddler might with just about anything that shines or
squeaks: McAleer Road. To most people Mcaleer road is part of their daily routine to get them to and
from their job or to drop the children off at school; however, to me it is an escape. I can run the road
down and back in under a half hour in real time but to me it will feel like centuries. While running on
this specific road time seems to slow down; I have all the time in the world to clear my mind and think
deeper about events that have occurred in my life and in the world around me. Often times I find

As I neared the middle my legs began to feel as though someone just poured a hip high level of
cement and I had to try to run through it. After realizing the immense pain my legs were in, I soon
realized that my lungs were the next thing to go. Just imagine having your lungs shrivel up into the
size of a pea and that is only part of the pain my body betrayed me with. As I neared the halfway point
on the seventh tenths of a mile long hill, I felt relieved that I was finally able to run on a lower grade
once more. For those who have not experienced this feeling, just imagine the feeling you get when the
pizza deliveryman finally arrives at your house with your steaming hot and delicious pizza. Now
combine that feeling with the excitement of a small child running down the stairs on Christmas. The
child, having received all he ever imagined and more, is overcome with such emotion which causes
him to burst with laughter. This combination of feelings is nowhere near how ecstatic I was to end my
uphill journey. This excitement is short lived as I once more continue my trek up the agonizing hill.
Only three steps from the plateau, I felt like I should just give up. At this point, a two week old baby
would have a better chance of running up the rest of the hill than I did; however, I remembered a story
that I used to read as a child. There was no particular reason for this memory

Driverless Car Ethical Dilemmas
Autonomous vehicles are on the verge of drastically changing transportation. They potentially can
save millions of dollars in damages and fuel efficiency as well as countless lives. However, the
development of driverless cars pose serious ethical problems for software engineers. For instance, the
millions of people who earn their living driving trucks or cabs would lose their jobs as they get
replaced by computer programs. Another issue is transparency because the driving software needs to
be very high quality to increase safety. Company designers and researchers tend to work secretly, so
others can t steal their progress but this close mindedness closes off extra ideas and criticism. Finally,
the need for safe code delves into morality. An autonomous car will have to make life and death ...

Companies work very hard to keep their code from the public to protect their ideas but this also
protects any accidental or faulty code from the public. For example, Volkswagen designed its vehicles
to produce lower emissions when being tested, but during regular driving, vehicles produced more
emissions. This was discovered when people measured the emissions from the tail pipe without
hooking it up to a computer. This kind of conspiracy would never have worked if companies had to
disclose their data. Another benefit could be greater detection of bugs. The runaway cars of Toyota
may have been caused by erroneous code, and widespread access to it may have helped identify the
error if there was one. Of course companies shouldn t fully disclose their information, but their
engineers and researchers should strive for greater collaboration between companies and universities.
Autonomous automobiles are the future of transportation but engineers face ethical problems to its
implementation. Engineers will have to work with ethicists to design morally responsible self driving
cars and encourage participation from a wide variety of

Nuclear Energy As An Alternative Power Source
Nuclear Powered Vehicles
Does an energy source such as nuclear energy have the potential to change the way Americans, and
the world for that matter, move from place to place? This technology is very tempting, although it is
extremely expensive; the long lasting benefits are remarkable. This technology may seem
revolutionary, but it is still in the beginning stages. Many people would question the thought of
stepping foot in a nuclear vehicle. Could this plan of nuclear energy in vehicles put Americans at more
risk than it is worth? The idea of using nuclear energy is not a new doctrine, yet it still seems to raise
some questions. The concept of using nuclear energy as an alternative power source is becoming
drastically evident in the U.S. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even if the reactor would fit in the car, the amount of nuclear radiation given off would require several
tons of steel to protect the driver. Needless to say, the concept car never caught on.
Even though, throughout the 50s and 60s, several companies tried their hand at producing a nuclear
powered car, none of them were ever successful. Over the last sixty years, no one has ever been able
to build a fully functioning car powered by only nuclear energy (Sebastian). A nuclear car may not
have been feasible in the 60s, but the military had a limited number of nuclear powered ships. The
N.S. Savannah was one of the few nuclear powered ships that the U.S. owned; the idea of these ships
never caught on. The ships released small traces of nuclear waste into the ocean and the idea of
radiation in the ocean made many people uneasy (Sebastian). In the 60s, the U.S. military possessed
nuclear ships such as ice breakers and destroyers; once these ships went out of commission, they were
no longer made, and the nuclear energy age ended as fast as it had begun in America.
The idea behind powering something using nuclear technology is fairly easy; the problem is what to
do with the radiation produced from the reaction. The vehicle is powered by the extremely slow decay
of an element such as thorium or uranium, which produces heat and causes steam. This steam is used
to spin a turbine engine and create electricity to power

shops. I really enjoyed both of them because the food tasted delicious and the gift shops had a bunch
of cool items such as chocolate, medication, beach towels, and a lot of expensive jewelry and antiques

laughing, and enjoying working together from behind their stations. The waiters and waitresses at the
resort were very nice, polite, and were always very entertaining whenever they walked up to you.
Another fantastic part about the servers is most of them knew how to speak English clearly which is
kind of unusual because they live in the Dominican Republic where most of the community speaks
Spanish. Sometimes we waited in a long line of people to fill our plates the food was incredible, the
waiters and waitresses were fabulous, and the atmosphere was warm. A couple nights a local band of

The War Of The World War
Weapons have always been a critical factor in warfare, but in the 20th century, they became even more
important and destructive, such that the world started to create new and unimaginable weapons, like
war tanks. The idea of protecting the soldiers as well as the necessity to have vehicles that can do
more damage to the enemies in warfare and the development of industrial technologies made war
tanks possible. They became very important in warfare, especially during the Second World War and
they are still important in modern warfare. They became the world warfare solution to keep move
forward while being under fire. The British first employed tanks in September 1916 during the Battle
of the Somme, where they tried to end the bloody stalemate of trench warfare on the Western Front.
The result was negative because they didn´t have sufficient training in combined arms operations and
also because the tanks were very heavy and they consumed a lot of fuel. Mainly for these reasons, war
tanks did not a critical factor in the First World War. In the Second World War, the cavalry became
obsolete and was replaced with tanks. They performed the same tasks, such as breaking the front lines,
surround the enemy and attacking from the rear, but with more devastating results. Tanks became one
of the most important weapons in combat, especially for the Germans during their German blitzkrieg
(lightning war), where tanks advanced quickly, surprised the enemy and proceeded to the next battle,

were eligible to be hunted (not the PFCA whales) and to address hunt safety issues. The gray whale
was removed from the Endangered Species List in 1994. Current population levels are robust enough
that allowing the Makah Tribe to pursue their requested take of gray whales could not significantly
impact the whale population. In fact, enough data exists to suggest that even if all the indigenous
peoples (aborigines) on the coast of the Pacific Ocean (Russian and US) hunted to the quota limits
allowed by the IWC regulations the gray whale population would still never again be endangered as
they were previously when commercial whaling practices decimated them.
The tribe has agreed to only hunt in offshore waters. Most commercial whale watching happens within
sight of land. Since no hunting will actually occur in the Strait of Juan de Fuca, it is fair to assume
there will be little of no impact on the whale watching industry. While the cetaceans are very advanced
mammals, there is no proof that the killing of a whale, done in the quantities proposed by the Makah,
will change the migratory path of the gray whale. As previously stated,

Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease Research Paper
Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease (CJD) is a rapidly progressive form of Dementia. Early diagnosis is
important because the underlying cause of Dementia may be treatable. It appears randomly with no
apparent reason, about 10% of those who are infected receive the disease through heredity. The use of
a computerized axial tomography scan (CT) can help rule out other problems like stroke or brain
tumor. The most effective is a Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), because it can reveal patterns of
abnormal brain signals and characteristics of CJD. In rare cases a brain biopsy may need to be
performed. A small piece of tissue is removed and it is examined by a Neuropathologist, usually an
MRI is sufficient. When a symptom on set happens, individuals may develop confusion, depression,
behavioral changes, impaired vision and impaired coordination. As the disease processes there may be
a loss of memory, also infected individuals may develop neuromuscular abnormalities. In later stages
of the disease, individuals may have further loss of physical, intellectual functions, a coma, and
repeated infections of the respiratory tract. Some people have life threatening and life ending
complications, that develop less than a year after being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Abnormal changes happen in the brain, and it appears as a sponge like holes and gaps, causing
deterioration in the areas of the brain. This can turn into spongiform degeneration that results in the
progressive neurological and neuromuscular symptoms that are associated with CJD. This disorder is
a result from a mutation in the gene that regulates the production of the human protein or direct
transmission with abnormal protein in infected brain tissue. Scientist believe that there is a
transmissible agent that is responsible for causing CJD. This is a slow virus, since it can take many
years from exposure to the appearance of

Oscula Study of a Sponge Essay
All the sponge parameters measured in our study in between the two discrete depth zones revealed a
clear statistical difference and consistently higher values for the shallow location except from the
sponge surface area (Median shallow, deep = 85, 152 cm2, respectively) and oscular number per
sponge area (Median shallow, deep = 0.04, 024 cm2 respectively). Similar to our study of turbidity in
the previous section the parameters given above for the deeper zone was higher for the sponges with
lesser pumping rates, but this difference observed to be eminent for the depth comparison (Table 4).
The comparative study of shallow and deep locations at the two pristine sites of southern side of
Bodrum Peninsula showed that there is a high chance of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most efficient sponge patch at the deep site processed 0.166 cm3 cm 2 s 1 amount of seawater
with 23 oscula collectively pumping. These numbers clearly show that C. reniformis specimens
possessing few numbered large sized osculas, pump more efficiently than sponges with many small
sized oscula. This raises a question in mind; is it better to have single enormous sized oscule or many
smaller sized osculas? Our analysis marks out a discrete large sized oscule provides a clear advantage
on pumping efficiency to the sponges living in the wave zone, but in the meantime at a cost of
maintaining a smaller sized body and perhaps less growth. The sponge specimens living in the deeper
zones compensates this disadvantage by spreading through a larger surface and forming many oscular
openings.
The shallow pristine site, Meteor Bay is generally protected from wave action, but there are regular
storm events throughout the year. Absence of oceanic water currents leaves wave action as the major
source of mixing and water movement. A possible advantage for C. reniformis specimens to acquire
larger sized oscules might be described with the need of catching desired food particles in a water
movement zone affected by wave action. Continuous oscillation of particles in a wave action could
make it harder to catch desired particles for a

Nike Armour Ratios
This is a comparative analytical paper that will analyze selected financial ratios for Nike Inc. and
Armour Inc. The paper will also discuss the implications of the ratios on the overall business
performances for each entity. Financial ratios, in this case, will act as performance metrics for
different business operations. The ratios indicate the actual financial and performance health of any
business at a particular time. The earnings per share of the common stock is a financial metric for a
business net income believed to be available to reward the common stock shareholders. The ratio is
usually calculated by dividing the difference between the net after tax profits and dividends attributed
to preferred shareholders with the average number of outstanding common shares. Significantly higher
earnings per share imply that the business is capable of paying reasonable dividends to the common
shareholders while a low ratio indicates a reduced ability for the entity to declare and pay reasonable
dividends to its common shareholders. From the comparison, Nike has a higher EPS ratio at 1.05
compared to 0.98 for Under Armour. This implies that Nike is performing better than Under Armour

Effect Of Mozart Effect On Pop Culture
Introduction
Music is everywhere. It has been a fundamental factor in the evolution of culture since the beginning
of time. Both the invention of the gramophone and the radio and the attempt to market these to the
masses in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s, the culture of music has been assimilated more and more
into life. Now the earth as a culture has become intertwined with each other through the development
of the Internet and the establishment of it in everyday life. Due to this development, music has only
become more accessible and portable to the public. A person can just pull out their phone and listen to
music whenever and wherever that person wants.

2004) Originally coined described by Alfred A. Thomatis in his 1991 book Porquoi Mozart?, this
effect has become so popular that entire businesses have been built on the concept. (Bangerter Heath,
2004) Still, the idea has garnered mix reactions from the scientific community. Many have found that
the effect is short lived and temporary, while others point to flaws in experimental designs as a
fundamental factor. (Thompson, 2015) It is critical to evaluate this claim in order to understand if
there actually are intellectual benefits of music. As it stands right now, if this theory is correct, the
integration of classical music into education and work may boost proficiency of both students and
workers.
This paper will cover several topics: The advantages of listening to music while working; the
disadvantages of listening to music while working; and a general probe into the integrity of the Mozart
Effect. This paper must be split up into these sections as the Mozart Effect focuses specifically on
listening to music before testing, rather than during. I believe that classical music under the right

Notes On Chromatography
Background:
Derived form the greek words for colour (Chroma) and writing (graphe). Chromatography is a method
is method in which different kinds of the coloured chemical mixtures are separated. In the early 1900s,
Mikhail Tswett, a Russian botanist, was interested in the individual compounds presented in plants. He
understood that removing ground up plants extracts with the dissimilar solvents will provide assorted
coloured solutions. Tswett conducted an experiment which involved pouring a plant extract through a
glass tube filled with calcium carbonate. As the liquid passed through the powder, bands of colour was
revealed; as individual compounds.

In chromatographic techniques, there is a stationary phase: usually a solid, thick liquid or bonded
coating that stays in a secure position. mobile phase or eluent: usually a liquid or gas moves through it
or across it.
The mobile phase carries the components of the mixture with it.
The separation of a sample, placed in the stationary phase, will gradually transport along with the
mobile phase. If a sample compound has no connection with the stationary phase, it will come out as
the same rate of mobile phase. If a sample compound has connection, it will stick with the stationary
phase. This distribution ratio among the selected phases must differ for each sample compound in
order for them to separate.

we must keep riding the hills to get better. We rode on two hills called the EZ rider and the terrain. The

faster chair lifts. Riding the same hills repetitively slowly became tiresome. With even switching from

The Importance Of Light And Darkness In Heart Of Darkness
Joseph Conrad uses light and darkness in Heart of Darkness to demonstrate that humans are not
innately evil but rather a mixture of the two. The good then light can be overpowered by the evil then
darkness when the characters refuse to see the value of the individual. Conrad goes on to show that
light can embody evil instead of goodness similar to how Dave Eggers uses light and darkness in The
Circle. Through this juxtaposition, both Conrad and Eggers highlight the ignorance and refusal of the
main character to see the evil within or the evil around.
Conrad focuses on the morality of man, his capability to discern right from wrong, and the actions he
makes in response to that understanding; however, there is a point where there is no longer a way to
return to the good. In conjunction with Marlow s journey in which he sees the gradual growth of
darkness, the darkness grows within the heart of those making the journey. The mutual growth is
because Africa itself, with its forests, its heat, and its mysteries, is only a symbol of the larger
darkness, which is in the heart of man ( Heart of Darkness 111). By the time a person is in the heart of
the jungle, the immorality has practically demolished any remaining good. One such person is Kurtz
who foolishly expose[s] himself to the wild irresistible allure of the jungle and lo! the darkness [finds]
him out ( Heart of Darkness 109). The jungle draws out Kurtz s malice and greed until it consumes

Economics in the United Methodist Church
Many churches are experiencing economic hardships at this time, and the Methodist church is no
exception. In addition to drops in attendance over the last half century, Religion News reports The
percentage of a church member s income given to the church dropped to 2.3 percent in 2011 (the latest
year for which numbers are available), down from 2.4 percent in 2010, according to the Empty Tomb
study. (Burgess) Because of this, many churches are feeling the strains of limited funds. But, there are
ways that I believe that the church could possibly improve their situation. The problems include
people treating the church as a free rider program, the church being used as a common pool resource,
and people acting so that the church becomes a tragedy of the commons. Near the end, a solution will
be offered, and it will be explored whether this solution lines up with the church in a normative
manner.
The first problem (of many) that churches sometimes face is that of a free rider problem. A free rider
problem is defined by Princeton as those who consume more than their fair share of a public resource,
or shoulder less than a fair share of the costs of its production. Essentially, anyone who benefits from a
resource in which they did not pay their fair share is a free rider. This is seen in churches each and
every week. People don t give a love offering for a Wednesday night supper. People bring their
children and youth to student activities and fail to tithe, or even give at

Pros and Cons under the 8th Amendment
1.
Introduction
The U.S. Constitutional Rights are laws that guarantee the basic rights for the citizens. There are
twenty seven Constitutional Amendments in total, but 10 of them represent The Bill of Rights. The
Bill of Rights ensures the basic individual protections such as freedom of speech and religion. The Bill
of Rights became part of the Constitution in December 15, 1791 by George Mason.
In my opinion, the 8th amendment is important because this amendment gives people the right against
excessive bail, fines, or cruel and unusual punishment. No citizen of the United States should be
subjected to cruel or insane punishment, and they shouldn t have to pay a bail amount that is too
excessive for the crime. This Amendment was added to the Bill of Rights to ensure greater stability
and was a compromise between the legislature election in the original non party elections and the new
president. The Amendment s Bail Clause is a result of injustices perpetrated in England, were judges
often abused their power in determining whether bail should be allowed to suspects. After a number of
unsuccessful attempts at reforming the law, the English Bill of Rights in 1689 specifically outlawed
excessive bail. The U.S. supreme court s held in 1987 that the eighth Amendment s Bail Clause had
only one meaning that bail conditions, when compared with the magnitude of

they needed to do to stay alive, after all, they needed to cope with pressure from their parents and

they needed drugs, otherwise they would get withdrawals and fail school (this happened one week and

Following the war of 1812 Tennessee was given the nicknamed the Volunteer State it was given this nickname due to the prominent role played by the volunteer soldiers from Tennessee. Tennessee has a current population of 6.5 million citizens composed of a diverse group of people leading to diversity in recreation opportunity needs. Tennessee is one of eight states nationwide and two in the southeast whose park system is free to the public. Also, Tennessee is one of ten states that do not have a dedicated funding mechanism for their state parks. Dedicated funding is when funds gained from a certain product are set aside to go to a certain good, examples of dedicated funding are licenses, severance tax, restrictions, leases, and many others; an example of a state with a dedicated funding mechanism is Virginia, which dedicates the revenue from timber sales. Tennessee derives capital expenditures for its state park investments from the General Fund and is the only state to do so. • 3. Tap Water Contains A Wide Variety Of Organic And Inorganic Tap water contains a wide variety of organic and inorganic materials, most of which are innocuous. However, some trace constituents in water, including heavy metals such as copper, zinc, cadmium and lead, are more problematic. Water leaving a drinking water purification plant will ordinarily contain negligible levels of lead and other harmful metals. These metals enter the water during distribution, through the corrosion of service pipes and plumbing in a process called leaching. Metals such as lead can leach from pipes, old solder or fixtures. Although some corrosion of plumbing is inevitable, the severity of leaching depends on the material of the pipes, the corrosivity and temperature of water and the amount of time water is stagnant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of these, the Flint Michigan water crises was the most publicized, as it was exposed through media attention after delayed action from the EPA and state government, and only after widespread elevation in blood lead levels (EBLL) of residents had induced long term and even permanent health consequences (Romain, 2016). As a result of increased public concern regarding water quality following the Flint Michigan water crisis, Chicago Public Schools began a water testing program to analyze lead levels in drinking water. Of 527 schools in the CPS system, 327 CPS campuses were tested by Chicago Public School s Water Testing Program in spring of 2016. Analysis of water in these schools, conducted by the EPA, revealed that of the 6,167 water fixtures tested on these campuses, 184 fixtures from 113 schools returned with levels above the lead action level of 15 parts per billion (ppb). In total, 34.56% of the initially tested campuses had at least one fixture that exceeded EPA action levels (Chicago Public Schools, 20161). The CPS school selected for testing in this research project was not tested in the initial round of testing in spring of 2016. However, the selected school was tested the following school year, in October of 2017. Results from the CPS testing indicated that none of the school s fixtures exceeded 15ppb, however, lead levels below EPA action level were found, ranging from 2.1ppb to 11ppb. He is using the character of Jamal to do so. Through the character of Jamal, Daniels is showing how hard it can be for an African American man to be gay. They get disowned by ones that should love, cherish, and protect them and they do not get treated with respect in the society. Daniels also uses the relationship between Jamal and Luscious to channel Beliefs and Values of homophobia in the African American community. In the article, Five Key Questions of Media Literacy, it states that media of all kinds carry messages about whom and what is important those are the belief and values that the media is sending . Lucious believes that Empire s fans will not approve of Jamal s sexuality and encourages him to keep his sexual orientation hidden to prevent harming the reputation of Empire. During the fourth episode, Lucious threatens to stop supporting Jamal all together if he decides to reveal his sexuality. Jamal then moves out of the apartment that his father is paying for because he realizes that by continuing to allow his father to pay for his living expenses is giving his father the right to make demands about what he think is best for Jamal. • 5. The Awakening as an Allegory of Existentialism Essay The Awakening as an Allegory of Existentialism Kate Chopin s The Awakening as the title suggests is just that‹the story of a young woman s awakening to life. Even though it is a work of fiction, the character of Edna undergoes such a radical change one cannot ignore the psychological depth of the work. The story could almost be seen as a case study. In order to analyze the work psychologically, it is important to decide which psychological framework to use. I chose the critic Cynthia Wolff who uses a Freudian framework for analysis. Wolff feels that Edna s problems are a result of oral conflicts, while I see the work as more of an allegory of existentialism, and Edna s problems are a result of a lack of Being. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most people pass through this stage without any conflict, and this allows them to move on to the formation of a more complex self. Wolff believes that Edna s central problem once the hidden self begins to exert its inexorable power, is that her libidinal appetite has been fixated at the oral level (Wolff 232), meaning that on some level she has begun to move beyond the oral stage. The first evidence we have of this is when she kisses Arobin. This is an act of fulfillment on the genital level. Edna has recognized her libidinal needs, but this does not seem to give her the satisfaction she craves. This longing is not a desire for a particular man, but the presence of the beloved (Wolff 233). She recognizes an emptiness within her and like anyone else has a strong need to fill it. Edna tries to satisfy this new sensation of emptiness, but she is not sure what it is that needs to be satisfied. There is a void that has begun to open up in her life, and she tries several ways of filling it. She attempts to go back to painting, she moves out of her house and even has an affair. Her painting is still an attempt at internalizing the world around her: Edna s painting might offer her an excellent and viable mode for coming to terms with the insistent demands of cosmic yearning. For one thing, it utilizes in an effective way her habit of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Compassion In The Holocaust Compassion is defined as sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others. In this case the idea of compassion could have changed the history of the world. The Holocaust was the killing of millions of Jews and other people by the Nazi s during World War 2.This was truly based upon hatred of a religous group, and wouldn t be possible without Adolf Hitler, the leader of Nazi Germany. Until a certain point no one was showing compassion for the people being terrorized by this tyrant. It is unknown to historians that during this time period the people didn t know what was happening, or they didn t want to believe what was happening. With that being said, could compassion have been a key factor in stopping the Holocaust earlier than it already was? On April 23, 2009 Elie Weisel said (...)that even on the edge of the abyss, is is possible to dream exalted dreams of compassion; . She is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the early stages of the Holocaust a boat of refugees escaped Nazi Germany and fled to the United States. As they arrived the U.S immediately told the boat to return to Germany. How could my country be so cold blooded? They sent them back to be brutally murdered or sent to concentration camps. The lack of compassion at the beginning of the Holocaust was clearly shown here. • 7. Pneumonia Is A Serious Disease Introduction Globally, pneumonia is a serious disease that more often than not results in death. However, with the exception of drug resistant strains, pneumonia is very preventable and easily treated if caught early in the disease process. This is a summary of the disease process, clinical presentation, and patient education about pneumonia. Pathophysiology Pneumonia is an infection of the alveoli inside the lungs. It can have many causes including bacteria, viruses, fungi, or it may be a consequence of another disease. The infection causes a purulent film to line the alveoli, which inhibits gas exchange. It can be isolated to one lobe of the lungs (lobar pneumonia) or affect many areas of the lungs (bronchopneumonia). The alveoli play the key role in gas exchange in the body and patients may present with headache, vomiting and sweating, cough, dyspnea, and pleuritic pain. Causes Pneumonia can have a variety of causes but the most common causes are viruses and bacteria. Bacterial pneumonia is commonly caused by natural occurring bacteria that reside in the upper respiratory tract and either through airborne droplet or defective defense mechanisms is able to migrate into the lower respiratory tract and cause infection (Driver, 2014). Nair and Niederman found the most common causes of bacterial pneumonia are Streptococcus pneumonia, Haemophilus influenza type b, and Moraxella catarrhalis (2011). Viral pneumonia is generally caused by organisms that originate in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Developmental Psychology Of Harry Potter Developmental Psychology of Harry Potter Harry Potter is a fictional character invented by J.K Rowling in the series of seven books starting with Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone and ending with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Wikipedia, 2015). Harry is the main character in this series whose parents died when he was young and he was brought up by his aunt and uncle (Philosopher s Stone, 1997, p.5). Harry was neglected by his aunt and uncle (Philosopher s Stone, 1997, p.27). Harry is presented a whole new reality when he goes to the zoo one day and his integration into the magical world changes him from the foundation. These changes within him will be analysed using the developmental psychology theories of Lawrence Kohlberg and Erik Erikson to explain how the environment aided or obstructed Harry s development. Using Kohlberg s moral development theory, one can judge how Harry s moral reasoning develops as he aged. Harry was in first stage of moral reasoning when he lived with his aunt and uncle as he was unable to judge good from bad demonstrated through Harry compliance his uncle s rules. On Dudley s birthday, Harry s uncle warned him not to misbehave in public and Harry had to obey his uncle s command or risk being punished as demonstrated by the following quote. Harry didn t know what time it was and he couldn t be sure the Dursleys were asleep yet. Until they were, he couldn t risk sneaking to the kitchen for some food (Philosopher s Stone, 1997, ... • 9. The Causes And Uses Of Homeschooled Students In Society Why is it that we rarely acknowledge homeschooled students for who they are in this society? Is it because they are different from the run of the mill students that attend public schools? It could very well be that they are misjudged because so many people are not informed on homeschooling. If so, the majority of homeschooled students around the nation feel like outsiders simply because society has not taken the time to understand and provide for them. But, one should not feel ashamed as around 3.4% of the all K 12 students in America are homeschooled, (Ray). It is reasonable for such a small population to feel like a group of outsiders when everyone else has not been apart of this experience. Fortunately, there are various methods of tackling this problem; diagnosing this issue is the most beneficial of all. Thus, homeschoolers are outsiders because others do not fully understand the setting they are taught in, the education they receive, and the reasons behind why they are being homeschooled in the first place. Children who are homeschooled tend to be outsiders because people misjudge them based on the setting they are in. It is believed that homeschoolers do not receive the same kind of socialization that students in public schools do. As a result, they are treated differently because of the setting they were taught in; it is completely different from that of a public school. Secondly, there is a misconception that homeschoolers do not participate in the outside world, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the development of driverless cars pose serious ethical problems for software engineers. For instance, the millions of people who earn their living driving trucks or cabs would lose their jobs as they get replaced by computer programs. Another issue is transparency because the driving software needs to be very high quality to increase safety. Even though, throughout the 50s and 60s, several companies tried their hand at producing a nuclear powered car, none of them were ever successful. Over the last sixty years, no one has ever been able to build a fully functioning car powered by only nuclear energy (Sebastian). A nuclear car may not have been feasible in the 60s, but the military had a limited number of nuclear powered ships. The N.S. Savannah was one of the few nuclear powered ships that the U.S. owned; the idea of these ships never caught on. The ships released small traces of nuclear waste into the ocean and the idea of radiation in the ocean made many people uneasy (Sebastian). In the 60s, the U.S. military possessed nuclear ships such as ice breakers and destroyers; once these ships went out of commission, they were no longer made, and the nuclear energy age ended as fast as it had begun in America. The idea behind powering something using nuclear technology is fairly easy; the problem is what to do with the radiation produced from the reaction. The War Of The World War Weapons have always been a critical factor in warfare, but in the 20th century, they became even more important and destructive, such that the world started to create new and unimaginable weapons, like war tanks. The idea of protecting the soldiers as well as the necessity to have vehicles that can do more damage to the enemies in warfare and the development of industrial technologies made war tanks possible. Current population levels are robust enough that allowing the Makah Tribe to pursue their requested take of gray whales could not significantly impact the whale population. In fact, enough data exists to suggest that even if all the indigenous peoples (aborigines) on the coast of the Pacific Ocean (Russian and US) hunted to the quota limits allowed by the IWC regulations the gray whale population would still never again be endangered as they were previously when commercial whaling practices decimated them. The tribe has agreed to only hunt in offshore waters. Most commercial whale watching happens within sight of land. Since no hunting will actually occur in the Strait of Juan de Fuca, it is fair to assume there will be little of no impact on the whale watching industry. Early diagnosis is important because the underlying cause of Dementia may be treatable. It appears randomly with no apparent reason, about 10% of those who are infected receive the disease through heredity. The use of a computerized axial tomography scan (CT) can help rule out other problems like stroke or brain tumor. This raises a question in mind; is it better to have single enormous sized oscule or many smaller sized osculas? Our analysis marks out a discrete large sized oscule provides a clear advantage on pumping efficiency to the sponges living in the wave zone, but in the meantime at a cost of maintaining a smaller sized body and perhaps less growth. The sponge specimens living in the deeper zones compensates this disadvantage by spreading through a larger surface and forming many oscular openings. The shallow pristine site, Meteor Bay is generally protected from wave action, but there are regular storm events throughout the year. Absence of oceanic water currents leaves wave action as the major source of mixing and water movement. This paper must be split up into these sections as the Mozart Effect focuses specifically on listening to music before testing, rather than during. I believe that classical music under the right circumstances may help with concentration, and may play a temporary role in intelligence boosting as described in the Mozart ... • 28. Notes On Chromatography Background: Derived form the greek words for colour (Chroma) and writing (graphe). Chromatography is a method is method in which different kinds of the coloured chemical mixtures are separated. In the early 1900s, Mikhail Tswett, a Russian botanist, was interested in the individual compounds presented in plants. He understood that removing ground up plants extracts with the dissimilar solvents will provide assorted coloured solutions. Tswett conducted an experiment which involved pouring a plant extract through a glass tube filled with calcium carbonate. As the liquid passed through the powder, bands of colour was revealed; as individual compounds. In chromatographic techniques, there is a stationary phase: usually a solid, thick liquid or bonded coating that stays in a secure position. mobile phase or eluent: usually a liquid or gas moves through it or across it. The mobile phase carries the components of the mixture with it. The separation of a sample, placed in the stationary phase, will gradually transport along with the mobile phase. If a sample compound has no connection with the stationary phase, it will come out as the same rate of mobile phase. If a sample compound has connection, it will stick with the stationary phase. This distribution ratio among the selected phases must differ for each sample compound in order for them to separate. Types of Chromatography: Paper Chromatography: Paper chromatography is a analytical technique in which the mixture is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

End World Hunger John Corley English 1 April 5, 2016 End World Hunger I went to Feed the Children for my community service which was a amazing experience because we learned a lot about how the company works and when they are most busy and what they do. I made several boxes of food for the homeless which included two boxes of cereal, spaghetti sauce, spaghetti noodle, greens beans, and a lot of other food. We learned about the colors of the boxes and why they are different colors. There are three colors of boxes green, blue, and pink. The first step to learning how to snowboard are the basics skills for example, standing up, back heal stop, toe stop, and shredding. Learning these skills only took 2 days, but the other guys were struggling for a couple more days. When everyone has the basics down, we must keep riding the hills to get better. We rode on two hills called the EZ rider and the terrain. The EZ riders is more for beginners, it s not as steep as other hills, wider trails, and easier chair lifts to get off. The terrain is a little harder it has jumps, rails, and other obstacles, steeper than most hills, and faster chair lifts. Riding the same hills repetitively slowly became tiresome. With even switching from hill to hill it felt like I was making the same movements, swaying my board side to side. The others guys happen to catch on to the technique faster than I was able to, but that never stopped me. • 32. The Importance Of Light And Darkness In Heart Of Darkness Joseph Conrad uses light and darkness in Heart of Darkness to demonstrate that humans are not innately evil but rather a mixture of the two. The good then light can be overpowered by the evil then darkness when the characters refuse to see the value of the individual. Conrad goes on to show that light can embody evil instead of goodness similar to how Dave Eggers uses light and darkness in The Circle. Through this juxtaposition, both Conrad and Eggers highlight the ignorance and refusal of the main character to see the evil within or the evil around. Conrad focuses on the morality of man, his capability to discern right from wrong, and the actions he makes in response to that understanding; however, there is a point where there is no longer a way to return to the good. In conjunction with Marlow s journey in which he sees the gradual growth of darkness, the darkness grows within the heart of those making the journey. The mutual growth is because Africa itself, with its forests, its heat, and its mysteries, is only a symbol of the larger darkness, which is in the heart of man ( Heart of Darkness 111). By the time a person is in the heart of the jungle, the immorality has practically demolished any remaining good. One such person is Kurtz who foolishly expose[s] himself to the wild irresistible allure of the jungle and lo! the darkness [finds] him out ( Heart of Darkness 109). (Burgess) Because of this, many churches are feeling the strains of limited funds. But, there are ways that I believe that the church could possibly improve their situation. The problems include people treating the church as a free rider program, the church being used as a common pool resource, and people acting so that the church becomes a tragedy of the commons. Near the end, a solution will be offered, and it will be explored whether this solution lines up with the church in a normative manner. The first problem (of many) that churches sometimes face is that of a free rider problem. A free rider problem is defined by Princeton as those who consume more than their fair share of a public resource, or shoulder less than a fair share of the costs of its production. Essentially, anyone who benefits from a resource in which they did not pay their fair share is a free rider. This is seen in churches each and every week. • 36. Pros And Cons Under The 8th Amendment Essay Ismael Bernal Ms. Moreh Contemporary Composition, Period 4 6, May 2016 Pros and Cons under the 8th Amendment 1. Introduction The U.S. Constitutional Rights are laws that guarantee the basic rights for the citizens. There are twenty seven Constitutional Amendments in total, but 10 of them represent The Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights ensures the basic individual protections such as freedom of speech and religion. The Bill of Rights became part of the Constitution in December 15, 1791 by George Mason. In my opinion, the 8th amendment is important because this amendment gives people the right against excessive bail, fines, or cruel and unusual punishment. No citizen of the United States should be subjected to cruel or insane punishment, and they shouldn t have to pay a bail amount that is too excessive for the crime. This Amendment was added to the Bill of Rights to ensure greater stability and was a compromise between the legislature election in the original non party elections and the new president. The Amendment s Bail Clause is a result of injustices perpetrated in England, were judges often abused their power in determining whether bail should be allowed to suspects. After a number of unsuccessful attempts at reforming the law, the English Bill of Rights in 1689 specifically outlawed excessive bail. The U.S. supreme court s held in 1987 that the eighth Amendment s Bail Clause had only one meaning that bail conditions, when compared with the magnitude of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Normally, it wouldn t be the best idea to gain inspiration from perhaps the most notorious fictional villain in history, but this quote, in particular, has a much deeper meaning than shallow self validation.
