Tarleton State University Problems
Freshman year of college, a time of joy, and frustrations. Thrust into a new world of opportunity and
comradery, but also no longer having the guiding hand of a parent or guardian to assist in troubled
times. We now are faced to deal with problems our own. Here at Tarleton State University, two major
issues that stem from very simple problems are finding a parking spot and also lack of variety in the
dining hall. I interviewed several people and discovered that these are small things to the outside
world but to those afflicted by these things they can be the thing that makes a difference between
doing well in class and being successful, or not being able to focus in class or being able to go to class
at all. Naomi Rockler Gladen wrote a list ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the number of people here at TSU, we are ill equipped to handle to large number of cars that
students are bringing. The system in place currently consists of the following; the main parking lots
that surround the residential halls, once those fill up the other students go to a dedicated parking lot
about a five minute walk from the halls. However, this year the student load is too great, so a new
overflow lot has been designated on the other side of the campus. In my personal experience, I have
had to go to that lot before, and even that one is almost over capacity. One night while riding with a
friend, we were just leaving and there was two or three other cars just sitting there waiting for us to get
out of the mediocre spot instead of looking around for another spot, as we left the parking lot, it
became clear why they did that, there were no other spots available. When we got back it took about
an hour to find a parking spot as we had to check all the other lots for a spot, and ended up parking on
the opposite side of campus to our dorms. Other students I asked stated that during the week, there s
very little chance of getting a parking spot. Only Friday morning through Sunday afternoon are there
any reasonable amount of parking spots in any of the parking

An Experiment for Staying Healthy with the Food We Eat
Introduction The issue of health, and proper eating habits has been a growing trend in recent years,
with the introduction of many chemicals and additives in the foods people eat. It is important to know
what nutrients and vitamins are being put inside the body. As of December 12, 2007 it is mandatory
for all prepackaged foods in Canada to be labeled with the Nutrition Facts, a summary of what is in
the food. This includes the Calorie count, the 13 core nutrients with the % Daily value of those
nutrients and, the full ingredients list. Similarly, this lab seeks to identify the major macromolecules
present in an unknown solution, the same process that food scientist go through in the lab, when
making the Nutrition Facts summary. The four main molecules that we will be testing for are
monosaccharides, starches, proteins and lipids. It is because the purpose of the lab is to test for
multiple macromolecules that the inquiry and testing process will be split into four independent tests
for the presence of each respective molecule. Testing for monosaccharides with Benedicts reagent will
be referred to as Test 1 Testing for the presence of lipids with the Blotth test will be referred to as Test
2 Testing for the presence of starches in the unknown solution with Lugol s reagent will be referred to
as Test 3 Testing for proteins with the Biuret solution will be referred to as Test 4 Question What
macromolecules are present in Mr. Oster s Olympic restoration

Salem Witch Trial Essay
James II, had revoked the old 1628 charter, so the colony was operating without an official
government, this is one of the circumstances that the Salem community was facing at the time because
they had no structure or government/charter to proceed with the trials. This lead to the second
circumstance that was the Salem Witch Trials because innocent people were being accused and
because they didn t have no charter the accused were being tried unjustly.
The first problem the community had to fix was that of their charter because without a charter there
can t be no court. As Norton, Wilson, and Cloyce explain, William Phips and Increase Mather go to
London to ask for the new charter he created to be accepted by the new King; which is accepted
(Norton p. 11 , Wilson p. 6, Cloyce: part 1). The other circumstance was the Salem Witch Trials in
which a court was issued where the accused had trials, and where several evidence were considered to
know if the accused were guilty and if they should be hanged. All Norton, Wilson, and Cloyce, explain
how because more upper class people started to be named the judges started to question whether the
girls were telling the truth (Norton p. 11, Wilson p. 10, Cloyce: part 2). At the end, this problem was
resolved because they came to the conclusion that the devil was taking upon the ... Show more content

things before the war ended and the impact it had. Wilson on the other hand, focuses only on the

view/experience to tell her story and that of other accused (especially her sisters,) using a video.

Companionship In Frankenstein
Companionship A friend is defined as a person whom one knows and trusts. In every society in the
world, people have this essential relationship and need it. In some societies this relationship is given
more importance than others, such as family relationships. In today s society, friends are given almost
the same attention as ones family member. Family is the closest relationship a person has, but a
companion or a friend has almost, if not more, the same relationship. In the novels, Frankenstein and
A Color Purple, Mary Shelley and Alice Walker focus on the human need for companionship and how
the characters want, look for, and need companionship. In everyday life, humans want to interact with
each other. They do meaningless tasks with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Frankenstein, The Creature asks Victor to make him a companion just like him: I demand a creature
of another sex, but as hideous as myself; the gratification is small, but it is all that I can receive, and
shall content me (Shelley 148). This shows that The Creature is lonely, and is looking for someone to
keep him company. It is very lonely for the creature, and not just because the monster is shunned and
hated by all mankind (Shelley 147). He s shunned and hated by all womankind, too: Shall each man,
he says, find a wife for his bosom, and each beast have his mate, and I be alone? (Shelley 172). He
begs Frankenstein to make him a mate, and he really seems sincere when he says that he s just
planning to move to South America and eat acorns and berries (Shelley 148). The creature knows the
human race offers no consolation to him so he wants a mate like him. People run, scream, or try to kill
him whenever they see him. Celie also has a need for companionship. In The Color Purple, A key role
in the book seems to be a sense of recognition to Celie. She gains proper respect from others and
makes friends due to her courage and standing up for herself. As Celie states: I don t know nothing
bout it, I say to Shug. I don t know much she say (Walker 113). This statement shows that Celie is
beginning to experience a real relationship with someone she cares about. For the first time in her life
she truly loved someone besides her sister. This is when Celie gains self confidence from being with
Shug, and with this she finally learned how to stand up to Mr. Albert. We are shown this for one of the
first times in the discussion at dinner. At that dinner we really get to see how much Celie has grown
and how independent she is becoming. She tells Mr. Albert: You a lowdown dog is what you is what s

in a murmured tone, Now, let s give them a performance. Agent Jaffe s voice escalated as he spoke,

Influenza A Virus Essay
In the human body, there are commensal bacteria serving as part of the normal flora. Various viruses
can interact with these bacteria in order promote their infectivity. Poliovirus can bind with bacterial
lipopolysaccharide (LPS) for stabilization to prevent premature RNA release and improve cell
attachment to host cell through the poliovirus receptor. For retroviruses, specifically MMTV (mouse
mammary tumor virus), binding to LPS improve their chances of successful transmission. MMTV
bound LPS get binds to toll like receptor 4, which is a pattern recognition receptor of LPS. This event
eventually leads to the induction of interleukin 10 (IL 10), which is an immune response inhibitory
cytokine. By producing IL 10, it allows MMTV to go undetected by the ... Show more content on

Furthermore, bacteria and virus interactions extend beyond the binding of virus with normal intestinal
microbiota. Through the co infection on influenza A virus and Streptococcus pneumoniae, it increases
chances of mortality. It is important to note that the two are working together rather than through any
direct binding to increase infectivity. Prior infection with Influenza A virus allows for colonization of
S. pneumoniae in the nasopharynx. Sialic acid, a non reducing sugar, is released from cells and mucus
after cleavage by influenza neuraminidase. The sialic acid serves as a nutrient source for S.
pneumoniae for colonization. In addition, a deficient of the S. pneumoniae s neuraminidase, NanA
(neuraminidase A), which is essential for breaking down of sialic acid to allow for adherence to host
cells can decrease colonization. During co infection, influenza virus can partially restore nasal
colonization of NanA deficient pneumococci. Co infection is also beneficial for the virus since it can
decrease specific influenza antibodies. Another study also present that having respiratory syncytial
virus (RSV) can increase the risk for acute otitis

I Have Long Advocated For Social Equality
I have long advocated for social equality and been aware of the prevalence of racism. However, my
forethought now seems insignificant compared to the degree of racism that James W. Loewen suggests
is indoctrinating the minds and classrooms of America s youth. Loewen takes readers on an
enlightening journey through his book, Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History
Textbook Got Wrong, that intends to expose the false claims and lack of information in standard
American high school history textbooks. He aims to set the record straight on how and why American
history is so misrepresented and why it is important to represent history accurately and not limitedly.
Throughout the book, he largely focuses on the shortcomings or outright fallacies of historical
textbooks in regards to racism, government, colonialism, and patriotism. Loewen serves this book to
bring about institutional change where he feels that it is needed and to stress the importance of factual
historical information and realpolitik. He displays vast amounts of logical and thoroughly descriptive
anecdotes and facts, however, the scrambled organization of his topics, and his clear devotion and
passion for the theme of social justice and anti racism present the problem of bombardment.
Furthermore, he does not appeal to his suggested audience in adequate rhetorical manner that is
consistent with his declared purpose of the book.
Loewen s constant stream of anecdotal and factual evidence thoroughly

The Importance Of Moving To American Culture
Even moving to a new house can be a little nerve racking. Will there be enough space? How will the
community be? These are all questions that can go through a person s mind when moving. Now think,
how about moving to a new country, with a new language, and having to bring kids. It would be a
much more intense experience, like the one of Michelle Pique. She moved from france to america in
1993, around the age of 40. She already had 3 kids, none of them knowing english. In france, her
husband, Joel, worked for a cheese company called Alouette. That was the whole reason they moved
to America in the first place.
Joel was getting a promotion that required all of his family to move to America. Prior to them moving,

For the effect will be measured in term of rate of VAP via an experimental study, this data collecting
method is called experimental methodology (Guba, 1990). Therefore, a positivism paradigm will be
more appropriate for this proposal.
Literature Review
Literature review is necessary and essential skill for researcher as it explains and justifies why the
topic is chosen and its importance (Abbot, 1993).
In this proposal, literature search was conducted by using the keywords of nosocomial pneumonia or
ventilator associated pneumonia , and oral hygiene or oral care through the electronic databases:
ProQuest, CINAL and PubMed in the electronic libraries of Hong Kong Hospital Authority (HKHA)
and Oxford Brookes University. Besides searching by keyword, the publication year was restricted for
ensuring up dated information. The reference lists of those collected articles provided additional
publication.
VAP is defined as pneumonia that develops in an intubated patient after 48 hours or more of
mechanical ventilation (Fields, 2008). It is the most common nosocomial infection in mechanically
ventilated patients and is a preventable secondary consequence of intubation and mechanical
ventilation (Barclay Vega, 2005), so its development and prevention is a concern.
Oral health is influenced by dental plaque,

The Life of Franz Ferdinand
Franz Ferdinand was the archduke of Austria Hungary. On June 28, 1914, Ferdinand and his wife,
Sophie, were visiting Sarajevo when the two were assassinated by Gavrilo Princip, a member of the
Serbian terrorist group, the Black Hand. After several failed attempts from members of the Black
Hand that day, the members were running out of hope. However, due to a communication problem
with the driver of Ferdinand and his wife s car, they were forced to turn around in an alley that Princip
was hidden in. Two shots later, the pair was dead within minutes and Austria Hungary was ready to
make Serbian s pay for what they did. Archduke Franz Ferdinand s assassination had different effects
but the biggest one was the start of World War I.

The Serbian nationalists were not only a main cause of Franz Ferdinand s assassination but of World
War I too. The Serbian nationalists were the main cause of Franz Ferdinand s assassination and aided
in the start of World War I. After the Austria Hungary Empire annexed Bosnia Herzegovina, the
country of Serbia encouraged Serbians living there to rebel against Austria Hungarian rule in frequent
protests and civil disturbances (Pendergast 16). The Serbians began to fight for independence against
rule of Austria Hungary which led to the assassination of the Archduke of the Austria Hungary
Empire, Franz Ferdinand. The Black Hand was the terrorist group that murdered Franz Ferdinand and
his wife, Sophie. Not only was it led by Colonel Dragutin Dimitrijevic, the head of Serbian military
intelligence but Austria s Serbian ambassador is said to have known about the assassination
beforehand (Pendergast 21). Serbian s were sick of being ruled in an empire, so militant groups like
the Black Hand, wanted to untie the Slavic people in an independent pan Slavic state (Pendergast 45).
They were determined to put all the Slavic people together as a separate nationality and destroyed
people who got in their way, including Franz Ferdinand, the Archduke of the Austria Hungary Empire.
With Franz Ferdinand being the heir to the Austria Hungarian throne, the Austria Hungarian Empire
began to call for a war against the Serbians but needed allies in order to have a chance of winning.

Driven to Their Death
Driven to Their Death I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure
suffering and humiliation. We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim.
Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Elie Wiesel once said. Nazis tormented the
Jews all throughout the Holocaust just because they didn t like their race. There have been multiple
movies, books, and graphic novels about the holocaust showing all the traumatic deaths, and other
horrifying events that took place. The graphic novel Maus written by Art Spiegelman shows the
survival story of a man named Vladek, and written by his son Artie. Vladek was a true survivor,
whether it was purely luck or not, but he also cared about other people who were there with him. In
the movie Schindler s List directed by Steven Spielberg this shows the story about the holocaust and
how one man named Schindler saved many men, women, and families. In both stories, there are
multiple motifs such as trains, lists, and death. Both stories show the same motifs in very similar ways.
One way the motifs are the same is that the trains represent their journey to their own death. In Maus,
there are multiple pictures of trains throughout the novel. Trains were used for transportation and
ultimately to send Jews to concentration camps. One of the most important trains was the one that the
Spiegelman s were on when they thought they were going to Hungary, but they ended up being at
Auschwitz.

Essay On How Women Changed America
Women have faced many challenges due to unequal rights in the United States. The time period of
these chapters go from roughly 1868 to 1980. During this time there was World War I, multiple court
cases such as Brown v. Board of Education, the Civil Rights Act, World War II, and new technology
being made. During these war times women had to step up to take over the mens jobs while they were
fighting. Rosie the Riveter was a big campaign approach during WWII to get women working in the
factories. Women proved that their place wasn t only in the domestic sphere. Women changed America
by accepting challenges, fighting for what they believed in, and taking risks.
Women changed America by accepting challenges. Whenever the world would throw a milestone at
them, they would catch it and deal with it. Married career women challenged the idea that family life
offered every woman all the fulfillment and opportunity for self expression she would ever need (ch.

Without risk taking women wouldn t be where they are today. Margaret Sanger took a successful risk
in inventing the birth control pill. This pill allowed women to take more control over their bodies.
With 97 percent effectiveness, the pill relieved women of the fear of unwanted pregnancies (ch. 19).
Based on the planned parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky, over 99% of women have used birth
control in their lives.
In opposition, Some people think that women have done more bad than good to change America.
Some think that the women s movement has caused children to rebel against their parents resulting in
bad behavior. Such as the 1920 s, for example, girls were dressing in short skirts, dancing to Jazz
music, and smoking. Immigrant children were even being rebellious when they came to America.
Once in school, children were more apt to listen to their American teachers than their foreign born
mothers. (ch. 12). Their old country values and beliefs were fading

The Domestic Violence And Sex Crimes Units Of The...
Introduction Experience is an attribute of ultimate success in the workforce. In order to gain
experience, I recently completed an internship at the Marion County Prosecutor s Office (MCPO). I
worked for the paralegals within the Sex Crimes and Domestic Violence Units of the Prosecutor s
Office. While completing this internship, I learned several lessons that will help to enhance my
professional ambitions following graduation, while simultaneously learning about the functionality
and dysfunctionality of the organization byand theorizing on how the organization could improve.
Functionality
The Domestic Violence and Sex Crimes Units of the Marion County Prosecutor s Office had
numerous functional aspects to their organization. The organizational structure was one of the
strongest benefactors to the functionality of the office. The Prosecutor s Office could be seen as a
mechanistic or bureaucratic organization, meaning that the office wasis based on a hierarchy with
vertical communication structures. The prosecutors were the highest level of authority; who would
communicate their needs to the paralegals (the middle level authority), and the paralegals would relay
these messages to the interns, who were at the lowest level of the communication structure. There
were were two paralegals within the Domestic Violence Unit who served under eight prosecutors. As
an intern, I was serving under the paralegals. The organizational structure benefitted the lower level

Donald Trump s Presidential Election Essay
Donald s Trump s victory in the 2016 election is very complex. The political mishaps that have
occurred since JFK s presidency reshaped the American psyche of who the president should be. This
chain of dissatisfaction with the federal government led the American people to hope for a president
who is honest, free of corruption, and supportive of the middle class. Trump recognized the American
need for a new kind of president and took on a persona that perfectly exemplified this. The Trump
Mythology is the belief that Donald Trump is a transparent, honest politician; however, this is only
part of the equation. Belief in the Trump Mythology contributed to his victory, but it is also important
to acknowledge the respective roles of demographics, voter turnout, and Hillary Clinton s flaws. An
interesting difference between the Kennedy Mythology and the Trump Mythology that is worth noting
is the role of the media. Throughout the Kennedy Era, popular media fed the people s fascination of
Kennedy s Camelot, perpetuating the mythology. Donald Trump, however, was largely hated by
popular culture. American media ultimately discounted Donald Trump as a viable contender for the
presidency.
From the very beginning of his campaign trail, Donald Trump piqued America s interest with his blunt
and oftentimes shocking statements. With his candidacy came exclamations of making America great,
building walls, deporting illegal immigrants, and keeping jobs in the United States. A Google search

Affirmative Action And Its Effect On Minority Minorities...
Affirmative action is described in sociology as, policies and programs that aim to avoid discrimination
and redress past discrimination through the active recruitment of qualified minorities for jobs,
promotions, and educational opportunities. (i.e. Exp. Soc., pg 280). In other words, the law was put in
place as an attempt to create pluralism in the United States structure of opportunity. When describing
affirmative action, the generalized assumption is individuals being handed opportunities based only on
their ethnicity. Whether or not that opinion rings through to the majority, consider the events that lead
to the enactment of affirmative action in the first place. The structure of opportunity in the United
States has always been a biased and unfair in its distribution of opportunities. Since the beginning, the
structure of opportunity has always been in favor of whiter, and ultimately wealthier Americans.
Segregation, discrimination, and complete disregard for people of different ethnicity and color made it
as such.
People of color were seen as an inferior, and ultimately poorer group of people than people who were
white. In earlier time, a metaphorical glass ceiling held back student of different ethnicity from
becoming more educated. The glass ceiling that held them back for so long was the structure of
opportunity being as biased as it is. In essence, the economic conditions, culture, and other aspects of
certain people had an impact on how they lived in society.

The Effect of the First World War on the Well Being of British Civilians
When constructing an essay based upon the impact that the First World War had upon the wellbeing of
British civilians, we primarily have to distinguish how, and with what criteria we will use to judge a
Nations health standard and wellbeing.
Throughout this essay, it is my aim to evaluate all of the different primary and secondary material
available on the topic. Hopefully, this will provide me with enough data to make a subjective opinion
of my own.

regarding the impact that the Great War had on the well being of British ... Show more content on

As my essay progresses, I hope to be able to decipher the authentic data and use it constructively to
provide a comprehensive answer to the above questions.
I think it is without doubt that as the hardships of war set in, the diet of the British civilian population
was greatly effected. Shortages in some food types meant that prices increased dramatically, and
luxury goods were no longer seen in the grocery store.
It has to be noted that the inelastic demand for the staple foods such as potatoes and bread actually
increased during the war years.
The total output of wheat, barley, oats, rye and potatoes exceeded 18 million tonnes by 1918. This is
an overall increase of 4 million tonnes since the onset of war.
It has been stated by many historians that the food shortage that were visible during World War 1 had
positive effects on civilian health.
The reduction in the amount of alcohol and sugar consumed in the diet would most definitely have
beneficial effects on a nations wellbeing.
Maybe, theoretically speaking, the stabilising of the working class diet would have an advantageous
effect on nutritional levels, thus ultimately mortality rates.

women. For instance, in season 2 episode 13 a producer refers to Temperance as a feminist crusader

assaulted me. Sully, her colleague, responds Yes, he did. Dr.Temperance Brennan also argues on how
producers view women as objects as seen in figure 3. She is also very independent and makes it clear
she does not belong to anyone (see Figure 4). Temperance is an independent woman who makes it
clear on several occasions that she challenges the gender norms.
The second main character is Seeley Booth a typical FBI agent. Booth embodies all norms of
masculinity to which men strive and does not challenge the hegemonic male. He is depicted as a tough
guy. As James lull describes in hegemony is the power or dominance that one social group hold over
others (Lull,1995). Booth is male dominance over women, and his gut holds more valued than
Dr.Temperance Brennan countless degrees and years of schooling. In the show, he has saved the day

Women sometimes have a vaginal discharge with an odor or pain during intercourse or urination. A
fever with lower back pain, abdominal pain, and bleeding between periods is not uncommon in

Chlamydia is a unique STD due to the fact that it responds to antibiotics like a bacterium but also
needs a host like a virus; however, it is classified as bacteria. Chlamydia has two life cycles; it starts
out as bacteria not able to synthesis its own adenosine triphosphate (ATP) requiring the bacteria to use
a host cell to replicate (Program). The infectious portion of bacterium is called the elementary body
which bonds to columnar epithelial cells (Program). The non infectious agent of Chlamydia is
reticular bodies (RB s) which use the hosts ATP to duplicate and reorganize the elementary bodies.
This process causes death of host cell while the new EB s are released and the two process life cycle is
repeated.
Chlamydia can cause lifelong and irreversible damage to the reproductive system when left untreated.
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is often seen in women with this infection because Chlamydia
bacterium attacks the cells of the cervix. Left untreated the infection can spread from the cervix to the
fallopian tubes, uterus, and sometimes the bladder, leading to PID and cystitis (inflammation of the

The war also embroiled many other European and world nations and pitted supporters and opponents

already present political and public rifts of the nation, bringing into question the claimed neutrality of

How Does Hector Change Throughout The Iliad
This passage from the epic poem The Iliad takes place near the end of book six. This book starts off
with Hector, son of the Trojan King Priam, entering Troy after being in battle. He stands out as he
enters due to the city being full of women and children, as all the men are out in battle. He walks
around the city, first meeting with his mother, Hecuba, then meeting with his brother, Paris, and then
finally meeting with his wife and son, Andromache and Astyanax. Hector then proceeds to talk with
his wife and play with his son, before finally returning to battle.
This passage re enforces the theme of following the heroic code, and choosing glory of family. Even

Character Analysis Of Everyman
Everyman, a morality play, was written in the late fifteenth century with the intention of
communicating to both educated, as well as, illiterate audiences some of the moral instructions
regarding the way to live life and prepare for judgment day. Liberty University (Lesson 26
presentation) says, This play taught masses of people about Christ and what constitutes a God
centered moral life. (Liberty University. n.d.) The use of characters such as; Death, Goods, Beauty,
Knowledge, Good deeds, and of course, Everyman, create a realistic understanding of the moral
message. The treatment and perception of the character Death within the play gives the audients
important insight to the way death is used by God and how it changes the outlook ... Show more

As each character betrays their promises to never leave or forsake Everyman, the reader can make a
personal connection that supports their understanding that the only way to salvation is through Christ;
not through the characters of the play such as Goods or Fellowship. All of the characters can be taken
literally to understand their nature in the real world. Death, as a character, is used as an analogy or
allegory for literal death. The author is demonstrating the use of Death to bring people back to God.
As Everyman continued in his search to find someone willing to accompany him to his reckoning he
comes across Good Deeds. Although the character, Good Deeds, was willing to accompany
Everyman, he is initially unable to so because of the fact that Good Deeds was never Everyman s
primary focus so he was lacking strength in that area. That being said, Good Deeds points Everyman
in the direction of his sister, Knowledge, who encourages him to seek Confession. By speaking with
Confession, he seeks forgiveness while also punishing himself by way of scourge of penance.
Everyman is then forgiven of his sins and Good Deeds rises from the ground strong enough to
accompany him to his final judgment. In this situation, God uses Death to free people of their sin and
bring them to salvation. Prior to being comforted by Good Deeds, Everyman was overwhelmed by
fear and anxiety. He was alone

My Favorite Movies
Whenever I was dealing with any stress or problems, I would go to the movie theatre and sit down and
immerse myself in a two hour long film. And all of a sudden all my problems were not an issue. It s
like if the smell of fresh popcorn, sweet candy, and thirst quenching soda was a doctor s
recommendation. The sound of crowds waiting eager to see an upcoming flick they ve been anxious
about pleased my ears; this atmosphere of innocence and joy caused me to make this theatre my safe
haven. I always found it fascinating how long it takes for movies to be made, so at the end of every
movie I had an itch that said you can do that too. Then after watching an abundance of movies I
finally scratched what I had felt. It was the beginning itch to become a filmmaker. This was in my 8th
grade year and I initially thought this must be a phase, because my mom said so. At the time I had no
equipment ,no knowledge of how cameras or editing actually work, so maybe my mom was right,
maybe it was all phase. Like I had said going to the movies was almost like a routine. Most of the
movies I watched were made with computer generated imagery, green screens, or a budget so big it
made your jaw drop. However this caused me to think how were movies made twenty or even thirty
years ago. This began the love of watching 80 s movies. E.T. , Breakfast Club, and Back to the Future,
sparked the thought I don t need high budgets to make memorable movies. Yet, it wasn t till watching

Speech On Healthy Eating Habits
If you actually write down what you are eating on a daily basis, you probably will drop your jaw in
horror. We never think to add up the little snack size candy bar here and the 2 cookies to actually see
the major impact it is having on our diets. The best way to achieve a healthy lifestyle, as far as our
diets go, is eating more fruits and vegetables. We all know it, so why do we head for the potato chips
isle in the grocery store instead of the produce section? Basically it comes down to this. Junk foods
trigger our appetite and leave us longing for more. Ever wonder why eating one little innocent Cheez

#3: Make A Compromise If you are following the American Diet, your palette now craves high salt
and high sugar foods. Quitting is almost never successful when it is done cold turkey. People think
they need to stop all the bad stuff all at once and then 3 days later they burn out and revert to bad
habits. Being healthy is not about missing out on the foods you love. If you want pizza, eat a slice with
a bowl of fruit salad instead of french fries. If you want Cheeze Its, eat a handful with a handful of
grapes instead of half the cheez It box. Ease into it and slowly change your eating habits for the better.

Walt Whitman s Relation to the Romantic Period Essay
The time of Romanticism brought upon many trends extending from the idea of individualism as a
rebellious separation from the classics, an idealistic outlook and finally to a strong religious base.
Most of the writers of the Romantic period followed Pantheism God is everything and everything is
God ... the world is either identical with God or in some way a self expression of his nature (Owen
1971: 74). The idea of Pantheism was that everything in the world worked in unity. In some of the
works of the Romantic period the expression of nature and humans are not separate entities, but one in
the same. Even though in reality it did not work this way Pantheism was the ideal of most these
writers and idealism in itself was yet another trend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the poem he veers from any pattern and words like, abject louse, and maggot, followed his
reputation of having an angry diction. His work is completely impulsive which was seen as exotic and
passionate, which certainly reflected the period. In his poetry he was said by Norton to stay away
from, making any sense or reason, (Saintsbury, 50).
Walt Whitman also had a strong emphasis on religion as well. In most of his poetry, including `Faces
Whitman tended to speak of sprits and in this particular poem; the Lord and the soul.
The Lord advances, and yet advances;
Always the shadow in front always the reach d hand bringing up the laggards.
(Whitman, `Faces )
The soul is also mentioned earlier in the poem as beautiful, despite the faces he sees which are at most
despising, (Whitman, `Faces ). Whitman was apparently very much intrigued by the soul, he tried to
find a path, to the soul even though he admits that he was not sure what the soul was. However, he
was determined he would find a path between reality and their souls, (Allen, 192). Like most of the
pantheists of his time he wanted to connect many things, reality and the soul; even individualism and
the nation. Whitman quoted, The empowerments of each element of the country individually but at the
same time their merger in the collective empowerment of the nation

The Cultural Conflict of Hugh Selwyn Mauberley Essay
The Cultural Conflict of Hugh Selwyn Mauberley
By imitating writing styles of ancient poets, Ezra Pound exhibited his attitude toward modern
civilization, and his famous poem, Hugh Selwyn Mauberley, is the stereotype. In this poem, Pound
revealed his disagreement with industrial society. The poem is an imitation of other old poetic styles,
or epic style; however, it presents ironic meaning. To fully understand Pound s divergence from
modern culture, the ways of presenting his position will be firstly explained. Next, the focus is on the
contrast between the elitist and popular culture. Finally, to highlight Pound s attitude, I prefer to make
comparison with other literary masterpieces, Odyssey, which have similar poetic style, ... Show more

The focus of Ezra Pound s cultural conflict is the contrast between high culture and popular culture.
And, the source of the conflict has a close relationship with a modern technological advance in human
history, the industrial revolution. The revolution not only changed people s life but also influenced the
way of thinking. As a result, materialism and capitalism influenced industrialized areas. With the
advance of technology, it improved human s living standard on the physical side, but decreased the
spiritual level. To some persons like Ezra Pound, it is the end of Western civilization rather than the
physical improvement of man s life. Hence, Pound comes to terms with his historical situation not by
abandoning his ideal of high art, but by maintaining it in ironic contrast to the products of modern
culture. i[i] Literary work itself, like a mirror, reflects cultural facts of its contemporary period, and
Pound considered the art of a society to be an index to its vitality ii[ii] In Hugh Selwyn Mauberley,
there is a clear line between elitist and popular art, or the ideal and the reality. This kind of distinction
is the result of explosive growth of capital society that overpowers and endangers high culture; yet
ambitious poets could not disregard the sign. An ideal situation is that both modern technology and
culture should grow at equal rate.

Tissue Engineering Scaffold
Preliminary Data 3: Tissue engineering scaffolds comprised of decellularized myocardial extracellular
matrix effectively emulate the natural cardiac environment. In order to best reconstruct the damaged
tissue of a heart following myocardial infarction, the chemical and biological cues that dictate cell
recruitment and differentiation in the native tissues are required. Each human tissue contains its own
specific combination of proteins and proteoglycans within the ECM to facilitate this process, so it
serves that scaffold material obtained from the heart would best serve to reconstruct cardiac tissue
(Singelyn et al. 2009). Modifying the scaffold into an injectable form would allow for the noninvasive
delivery of the therapy directly to the affected site. Previous studies on the gelation of a decellularized

Social Construction Of Gender And Masculinity
Throughout childhood children are exposed to many factors, which may influence their actions and
attitudes regarding the social construction of gender, specifically masculinity and femininity. Children
s attitudes are influenced by a variety of external sources, but are most strongly influenced by their
home life and parents. Parents are responsible for nurturing and teaching children about multiple
aspects in life, including gender norms; this occurs both consciously and unconsciously. One way
parents pass on their beliefs about gender and gender norms are through the giving of heteronormative
toys. Toys children play with and are exposed to subtly and not so subtly teach gender norms and
mores that are accepted in society; furthermore, the association of color and toy genre reinforce the
social construction of gender and how males are supposed to exhibit masculinity while females exhibit
femininity.
Masculinity and femininity are social constructions based on the biological terms male and female,
respectively. Masculinity is often associated with the terms active, strong, dominant, and not
nurturing; whereas, femininity is often associated with the terms passive, weak, submissive, and
nurturing (Shaw Lee 123, 126, 131). In today s society, due to gender socialization, people generally
believe that men should display masculinity while women should display femininity; this social belief
is learned and initially taught to young children through heteronormative toys.

All Of Us Have Had One
All of us have had one. You know, that one date we wish would have never happened. That one date
that we only tell to another soul after several weeks of mulling it over in self doubt as to whether or
not you should ever speak of it again, or just let it listlessly fade from memory. For me, this date
happened on July 6, 2007 ironically, about two weeks before I met the woman who is presently my
wife. Alison and I had met online. With my busy work schedule, it made it impossible for me to find a
girl the traditional way, and so a buddy of mine helped me create an online profile with OkCupid. The
website was actually quite fun to play around with as it had some user quizzes, and a pretty interesting
profile building experience. As suggested by the website, within a few days someone had already e

versus those that had potential, but finally I came across a profile that I thought would blend well with
my values, likes, dislikes, etc and so I sent her a message. Two days later I received a response and we
began chatting. After two days of instant messaging the good ole fashioned way on AIM, we decided
we wanted to meet one other. We set a date at Applebee s for that coming Friday night at 7:30 PM.

characters in these works make self sacrifices to please others. In Warren Pryor, the character gives up

In the field of medicine, the technology has the potential to increase precision and improve the overall
effectiveness of surgical procedures. Some researchers are even studying applications in tissue

for well established companies to explore business opportunities in the 3D printing market. The
emergence of large, blue chip players like General Electric (GE) and Ford (F) in the past year further
legitimizes the recent trend in additive manufacturing. General Electric s big bet on 3D printings
intends to support its efforts to grow as a digital industrial company whereas Ford hopes to print low
cost automotive parts at scale. An aggressive push into 3D printing can help revive top and bottom
line performance at a time where both companies have struggled to lift shareholder value. Other
functions of 3D printing range from mass producing footwear, which traditionally relies on low cost
labor in third world countries, to constructing a home. Earlier this year a new robot from MIT built a

allowed for faster, cheaper and more adaptable construction, but the long term vision for the project is
to build on Mars. Printing in three dimensions introduces a wealth of opportunities with a broad set of

The Introduction of the Burqini in Europe
In January of 2007, a new style of bathing suit known as the Burqini became a media sensation.
Burqini is a multi piece head to toe bathing suit designed especially for women who follow Islam and
practice sartorial hijab and cover their entire body except face hands and feet. The media created this
portmanteau of burqa and bikini and referred to these full body multi piece swimsuits to modestly
dress Muslim women as burqinis. Burqini has received a lot of attention from media from all over the
world; both positive and negative, making it a sensational piece of garment in 21st century. The most
public attention gained by this garment was in 2009 when it was banned in Emerainville , a suburb of
Paris in France and later in Italy making because it was unhygienic and inappropriate clothing for a
public baths. Therefore, making Burqini one of the most controversial piece of clothing as it questions
culture, religion, health and hygiene of the individual who wears a Burqini along with the people who
are in the same bath as the individual wearing Burqini. This paper discusses how and why Burqini
became a controversial piece of garment by focusing on news stories, written records and personal
interviews of people who wear Burqini. It critically analyses and focuses on how this controversy of
faith versus hygiene of Burqini wearers is just a result of cultural clash.
Introduction of the burqini in Europe led to juxtaposing perspectives on whether or not it should be

A state s sources of legitimacy are both internal and external. Internal legitimacy comes from within
the country, the willingness of the people to accept the government as legitimate. Currenlty in

been ruled.A response to the government crises during the seventeenth century was to find more
steadiness and stability by increasing the power of the monarch. Philosophers Thomas Hobbes and
John Locke came to very dinstanct conclusions about human nature and the role of government. But
perhaps whose ideal government beliefs were better for the society John Lockes limited government

Two Treatises of Government the first treatsie of Locke s book was an attack on a religious
philosopher, Sir Robert Filmer. Though the argument is based in religion, there s some overlap
between these ideas one being that Adam, the first man in the Bible, had absolute authority over his
children, their children, and all succeeding people throughout history, since his power was ordained by
God. Locke thought that idea was insane, while granting that Adam had authority over his own

your body tissue during physical activity. The more efficiently your body delivers oxygen, the lower
your breathing rate is. An activity to improve your cardioactive strength is swimming. It builds up
endurance and increases lung capacity. This type of exercise can slowly be bumped up after your body
gets use to each exercise.
Muscular endurance is the ability to have a muscle or group of muscles to do a repeated action against
a resisting force over a course of time. A way you can improve your muscular endurance is by doing
simple actions like push ups, plank position in yoga, and sit ups.
Muscular strength is the maximum amount of force a muscle can use against a resistance in a single
action. Lifting, squatting, and bench pressing weights are all activities that can improve muscular
strength.
Flexibility is how much you can bend without damaging any part of your body. The range of motion
your joints and muscles can move freely. People practice their flexibility by doing the splits and casual
stretches in yoga and tai chi classes. These should be done regularly to stop the muscles from seizing
up.

Persuasive Essay On Automatic Vs Automatic
It is super exciting when you finally set off in search for your first brand new car. You begin to
imagine all of the great features you want for it to have, have it be your favorite color, and ensure that
it is something you look good in. However there is also one question that many new buyers have to
ask themselves. That challenging question is, Should I buy an automatic or manual transmission?
Although some individuals might be undecided, there is only one that is more economical, provides
easier maintenance, and give you a much more thrilling driving experience. Therefore, it should be
clear that a manual transmission is the best. Given the fact that you are a first buyer or for anyone who
would love to save some extra money with their purchase, a manual driving car is the best way to go.
They are much more inexpensive cars that automatic s from the start.
When an individual first goes to a dealership or is simply doing some research online, that person can
see that the manual option will most often be the more cheaper option than the automatic vehicle. This
even applies to some more exclusive cars ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can be painful to you, and even more to your pocket. But even your own mechanic can tell you that
it will be easier to fix an manual transmission car than an automatic one. It is also known that an
automatic transmission requires far more service that a manual vehicle does, even with all the new
improvements an automatic motor has had over these recent years. Mass production companies have
even declared that some of their manual transmission vehicles do not even need to have service done
to them such as a fuel change or air coolant refill. With a clutch replacement being the only major
concern that one has to worry about, it is clear that an automatic automobile is surely to bring you
more complications along the

She feels guilty due to the death of her daughter and now that guilt remains as one of the challenges

What Are The Forces Within America That Have Shaped Our...
HCAD 730: W 3 Forum Five Questions Suggested Responses. 1. What are the forces within America
that have shaped our health care system? Many forces shape our current healthcare system. Our
cultural belief and values shape our views on our social, political, and economic exigencies. While our
beliefs and values usually represent basic or core impressions of individuals in our society, they are
constantly changing. Thus, they lend a sense of dynamism to our health care system. Our cultural
beliefs and values also impact our sense of ethics, which also influences how we allocate our health
resources and our sense of social justice, or lack of it. And although ACA represents a major reform
the American health care system, history will tell us whether it survives after the next election cycles.
Many of the forces in American health care that affected its evolution in the past are present today.
Advances in medical science and technology still have force and effect on how our health care system
has and will evolve over time. We have a technologically driven health care system. Our educational
system shapes our health care system through its training methods and emphasis on the medical
model. Depending on the discipline, training may key on treating rather than preventing disease. This
generates demand for service delivery. Training of new physicians takes time and money. Because the
costs for a medical education are significant, many students seek postgraduate training in a

  • 2. Tarleton State University Problems Freshman year of college, a time of joy, and frustrations. Thrust into a new world of opportunity and comradery, but also no longer having the guiding hand of a parent or guardian to assist in troubled times. We now are faced to deal with problems our own. Here at Tarleton State University, two major issues that stem from very simple problems are finding a parking spot and also lack of variety in the dining hall. I interviewed several people and discovered that these are small things to the outside world but to those afflicted by these things they can be the thing that makes a difference between doing well in class and being successful, or not being able to focus in class or being able to go to class at all. Due to the number of people here at TSU, we are ill equipped to handle to large number of cars that students are bringing. The system in place currently consists of the following; the main parking lots that surround the residential halls, once those fill up the other students go to a dedicated parking lot about a five minute walk from the halls. However, this year the student load is too great, so a new overflow lot has been designated on the other side of the campus. In my personal experience, I have had to go to that lot before, and even that one is almost over capacity. One night while riding with a friend, we were just leaving and there was two or three other cars just sitting there waiting for us to get out of the mediocre spot instead of looking around for another spot, as we left the parking lot, it became clear why they did that, there were no other spots available. When we got back it took about an hour to find a parking spot as we had to check all the other lots for a spot, and ended up parking on the opposite side of campus to our dorms. Other students I asked stated that during the week, there s very little chance of getting a parking spot. Only Friday morning through Sunday afternoon are there any reasonable amount of parking spots in any of the parking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. An Experiment for Staying Healthy with the Food We Eat Introduction The issue of health, and proper eating habits has been a growing trend in recent years, with the introduction of many chemicals and additives in the foods people eat. It is important to know what nutrients and vitamins are being put inside the body. As of December 12, 2007 it is mandatory for all prepackaged foods in Canada to be labeled with the Nutrition Facts, a summary of what is in the food. This includes the Calorie count, the 13 core nutrients with the % Daily value of those nutrients and, the full ingredients list. Similarly, this lab seeks to identify the major macromolecules present in an unknown solution, the same process that food scientist go through in the lab, when making the Nutrition Facts summary. The four main molecules that we will be testing for are monosaccharides, starches, proteins and lipids. It is because the purpose of the lab is to test for multiple macromolecules that the inquiry and testing process will be split into four independent tests for the presence of each respective molecule. Testing for monosaccharides with Benedicts reagent will be referred to as Test 1 Testing for the presence of lipids with the Blotth test will be referred to as Test 2 Testing for the presence of starches in the unknown solution with Lugol s reagent will be referred to as Test 3 Testing for proteins with the Biuret solution will be referred to as Test 4 Question What macromolecules are present in Mr. Oster s Olympic restoration ... Salem Witch Trial Essay James II, had revoked the old 1628 charter, so the colony was operating without an official government, this is one of the circumstances that the Salem community was facing at the time because they had no structure or government/charter to proceed with the trials. This lead to the second circumstance that was the Salem Witch Trials because innocent people were being accused and because they didn t have no charter the accused were being tried unjustly. The first problem the community had to fix was that of their charter because without a charter there can t be no court. As Norton, Wilson, and Cloyce explain, William Phips and Increase Mather go to London to ask for the new charter he created to be accepted by the new King; which is accepted (Norton p. 11 , Wilson p. 6, Cloyce: part 1). The other circumstance was the Salem Witch Trials in which a court was issued where the accused had trials, and where several evidence were considered to know if the accused were guilty and if they should be hanged. All Norton, Wilson, and Cloyce, explain how because more upper class people started to be named the judges started to question whether the girls were telling the truth (Norton p. 11, Wilson p. 10, Cloyce: part 2). • 5. Companionship In Frankenstein Companionship A friend is defined as a person whom one knows and trusts. In every society in the world, people have this essential relationship and need it. In some societies this relationship is given more importance than others, such as family relationships. In today s society, friends are given almost the same attention as ones family member. Family is the closest relationship a person has, but a companion or a friend has almost, if not more, the same relationship. In Frankenstein, The Creature asks Victor to make him a companion just like him: I demand a creature of another sex, but as hideous as myself; the gratification is small, but it is all that I can receive, and shall content me (Shelley 148). This shows that The Creature is lonely, and is looking for someone to keep him company. It is very lonely for the creature, and not just because the monster is shunned and hated by all mankind (Shelley 147). He s shunned and hated by all womankind, too: Shall each man, he says, find a wife for his bosom, and each beast have his mate, and I be alone? (Shelley 172). He begs Frankenstein to make him a mate, and he really seems sincere when he says that he s just planning to move to South America and eat acorns and berries (Shelley 148). The creature knows the human race offers no consolation to him so he wants a mate like him. People run, scream, or try to kill him whenever they see him. Celie also has a need for companionship. In The Color Purple, A key role in the book seems to be a sense of recognition to Celie. She gains proper respect from others and makes friends due to her courage and standing up for herself. As Celie states: I don t know nothing bout it, I say to Shug. I don t know much she say (Walker 113). This statement shows that Celie is beginning to experience a real relationship with someone she cares about. For the first time in her life she truly loved someone besides her sister. This is when Celie gains self confidence from being with Shug, and with this she finally learned how to stand up to Mr. Albert. We are shown this for one of the first times in the discussion at dinner. At that dinner we really get to see how much Celie has grown and how independent she is becoming. • 7. Influenza A Virus Essay In the human body, there are commensal bacteria serving as part of the normal flora. Various viruses can interact with these bacteria in order promote their infectivity. Poliovirus can bind with bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) for stabilization to prevent premature RNA release and improve cell attachment to host cell through the poliovirus receptor. For retroviruses, specifically MMTV (mouse mammary tumor virus), binding to LPS improve their chances of successful transmission. MMTV bound LPS get binds to toll like receptor 4, which is a pattern recognition receptor of LPS. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, bacteria and virus interactions extend beyond the binding of virus with normal intestinal microbiota. Through the co infection on influenza A virus and Streptococcus pneumoniae, it increases chances of mortality. It is important to note that the two are working together rather than through any direct binding to increase infectivity. Prior infection with Influenza A virus allows for colonization of S. pneumoniae in the nasopharynx. Sialic acid, a non reducing sugar, is released from cells and mucus after cleavage by influenza neuraminidase. The sialic acid serves as a nutrient source for S. pneumoniae for colonization. In addition, a deficient of the S. pneumoniae s neuraminidase, NanA (neuraminidase A), which is essential for breaking down of sialic acid to allow for adherence to host cells can decrease colonization. However, my forethought now seems insignificant compared to the degree of racism that James W. Loewen suggests is indoctrinating the minds and classrooms of America s youth. Loewen takes readers on an enlightening journey through his book, Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong, that intends to expose the false claims and lack of information in standard American high school history textbooks. He aims to set the record straight on how and why American history is so misrepresented and why it is important to represent history accurately and not limitedly. Throughout the book, he largely focuses on the shortcomings or outright fallacies of historical textbooks in regards to racism, government, colonialism, and patriotism. Loewen serves this book to bring about institutional change where he feels that it is needed and to stress the importance of factual historical information and realpolitik. He displays vast amounts of logical and thoroughly descriptive anecdotes and facts, however, the scrambled organization of his topics, and his clear devotion and passion for the theme of social justice and anti racism present the problem of bombardment. Furthermore, he does not appeal to his suggested audience in adequate rhetorical manner that is consistent with his declared purpose of the book. It is the most common nosocomial infection in mechanically ventilated patients and is a preventable secondary consequence of intubation and mechanical ventilation (Barclay Vega, 2005), so its development and prevention is a concern. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Elie Wiesel once said. Nazis tormented the Jews all throughout the Holocaust just because they didn t like their race. There have been multiple movies, books, and graphic novels about the holocaust showing all the traumatic deaths, and other horrifying events that took place. The graphic novel Maus written by Art Spiegelman shows the survival story of a man named Vladek, and written by his son Artie. Vladek was a true survivor, whether it was purely luck or not, but he also cared about other people who were there with him. In the movie Schindler s List directed by Steven Spielberg this shows the story about the holocaust and how one man named Schindler saved many men, women, and families. In both stories, there are multiple motifs such as trains, lists, and death. Both stories show the same motifs in very similar ways. One way the motifs are the same is that the trains represent their journey to their own death. In Maus, there are multiple pictures of trains throughout the novel. Trains were used for transportation and ultimately to send Jews to concentration camps. One of the most important trains was the one that the Spiegelman s were on when they thought they were going to Hungary, but they ended up being at Auschwitz. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Donald Trump s Presidential Election Essay Donald s Trump s victory in the 2016 election is very complex. The political mishaps that have occurred since JFK s presidency reshaped the American psyche of who the president should be. This chain of dissatisfaction with the federal government led the American people to hope for a president who is honest, free of corruption, and supportive of the middle class. Trump recognized the American need for a new kind of president and took on a persona that perfectly exemplified this. The Trump Mythology is the belief that Donald Trump is a transparent, honest politician; however, this is only part of the equation. Belief in the Trump Mythology contributed to his victory, but it is also important to acknowledge the respective roles of demographics, voter turnout, and Hillary Clinton s flaws. An interesting difference between the Kennedy Mythology and the Trump Mythology that is worth noting is the role of the media. Throughout the Kennedy Era, popular media fed the people s fascination of Kennedy s Camelot, perpetuating the mythology. Donald Trump, however, was largely hated by popular culture. American media ultimately discounted Donald Trump as a viable contender for the presidency. • 17. Affirmative Action And Its Effect On Minority Minorities... Affirmative action is described in sociology as, policies and programs that aim to avoid discrimination and redress past discrimination through the active recruitment of qualified minorities for jobs, promotions, and educational opportunities. (i.e. Exp. Soc., pg 280). In other words, the law was put in place as an attempt to create pluralism in the United States structure of opportunity. When describing affirmative action, the generalized assumption is individuals being handed opportunities based only on their ethnicity. Whether or not that opinion rings through to the majority, consider the events that lead to the enactment of affirmative action in the first place. The structure of opportunity in the United States has always been a biased and unfair in its distribution of opportunities. Since the beginning, the structure of opportunity has always been in favor of whiter, and ultimately wealthier Americans. Segregation, discrimination, and complete disregard for people of different ethnicity and color made it as such. People of color were seen as an inferior, and ultimately poorer group of people than people who were white. In earlier time, a metaphorical glass ceiling held back student of different ethnicity from becoming more educated. Shortages in some food types meant that prices increased dramatically, and luxury goods were no longer seen in the grocery store. It has to be noted that the inelastic demand for the staple foods such as potatoes and bread actually increased during the war years. The total output of wheat, barley, oats, rye and potatoes exceeded 18 million tonnes by 1918. This is an overall increase of 4 million tonnes since the onset of war. It has been stated by many historians that the food shortage that were visible during World War 1 had positive effects on civilian health. The Cultural Conflict of Hugh Selwyn Mauberley Essay The Cultural Conflict of Hugh Selwyn Mauberley By imitating writing styles of ancient poets, Ezra Pound exhibited his attitude toward modern civilization, and his famous poem, Hugh Selwyn Mauberley, is the stereotype. In this poem, Pound revealed his disagreement with industrial society. The poem is an imitation of other old poetic styles, or epic style; however, it presents ironic meaning. To fully understand Pound s divergence from modern culture, the ways of presenting his position will be firstly explained. Next, the focus is on the contrast between the elitist and popular culture. Finally, to highlight Pound s attitude, I prefer to make comparison with other literary masterpieces, Odyssey, which have similar poetic style, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The focus of Ezra Pound s cultural conflict is the contrast between high culture and popular culture. And, the source of the conflict has a close relationship with a modern technological advance in human history, the industrial revolution. The revolution not only changed people s life but also influenced the way of thinking. As a result, materialism and capitalism influenced industrialized areas. With the advance of technology, it improved human s living standard on the physical side, but decreased the spiritual level. To some persons like Ezra Pound, it is the end of Western civilization rather than the physical improvement of man s life. Hence, Pound comes to terms with his historical situation not by abandoning his ideal of high art, but by maintaining it in ironic contrast to the products of modern culture. i[i] Literary work itself, like a mirror, reflects cultural facts of its contemporary period, and Pound considered the art of a society to be an index to its vitality ii[ii] In Hugh Selwyn Mauberley, there is a clear line between elitist and popular art, or the ideal and the reality. This kind of distinction is the result of explosive growth of capital society that overpowers and endangers high culture; yet ambitious poets could not disregard the sign. An ideal situation is that both modern technology and culture should grow at equal rate. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In order to best reconstruct the damaged tissue of a heart following myocardial infarction, the chemical and biological cues that dictate cell recruitment and differentiation in the native tissues are required. Each human tissue contains its own specific combination of proteins and proteoglycans within the ECM to facilitate this process, so it serves that scaffold material obtained from the heart would best serve to reconstruct cardiac tissue (Singelyn et al. 2009). Modifying the scaffold into an injectable form would allow for the noninvasive delivery of the therapy directly to the affected site. • 31. Social Construction Of Gender And Masculinity Throughout childhood children are exposed to many factors, which may influence their actions and attitudes regarding the social construction of gender, specifically masculinity and femininity. Children s attitudes are influenced by a variety of external sources, but are most strongly influenced by their home life and parents. Parents are responsible for nurturing and teaching children about multiple aspects in life, including gender norms; this occurs both consciously and unconsciously. One way parents pass on their beliefs about gender and gender norms are through the giving of heteronormative toys. Toys children play with and are exposed to subtly and not so subtly teach gender norms and mores that are accepted in society; furthermore, the association of color and toy genre reinforce the social construction of gender and how males are supposed to exhibit masculinity while females exhibit femininity. Masculinity and femininity are social constructions based on the biological terms male and female, respectively. Masculinity is often associated with the terms active, strong, dominant, and not nurturing; whereas, femininity is often associated with the terms passive, weak, submissive, and nurturing (Shaw Lee 123, 126, 131). In today s society, due to gender socialization, people generally believe that men should display masculinity while women should display femininity; this social belief is learned and initially taught to young children through heteronormative toys. ... That one date that we only tell to another soul after several weeks of mulling it over in self doubt as to whether or not you should ever speak of it again, or just let it listlessly fade from memory. For me, this date happened on July 6, 2007 ironically, about two weeks before I met the woman who is presently my wife. Alison and I had met online. With my busy work schedule, it made it impossible for me to find a girl the traditional way, and so a buddy of mine helped me create an online profile with OkCupid. The website was actually quite fun to play around with as it had some user quizzes, and a pretty interesting profile building experience. As suggested by the website, within a few days someone had already e mailed me. Honestly, it took a while to weed out the people I would blatantly not be interested in versus those that had potential, but finally I came across a profile that I thought would blend well with my values, likes, dislikes, etc and so I sent her a message. Two days later I received a response and we began chatting. After two days of instant messaging the good ole fashioned way on AIM, we decided we wanted to meet one other. We set a date at Applebee s for that coming Friday night at 7:30 PM. This was the first date I had been on in a couple of months since my previous relationship ended, so I was definitely nervous.
