The Drug Of Drug Addiction Essay
Watching my older brother struggle with drug addiction has taught me more in my life than anything
else. He was a smart kid with a good head on his shoulders. As he grew older he made some unwise
choices with regard to substance abuse that quickly turned into a full blown addiction lasting over five
years and landed him in and out of four different rehabs. He was striving to get clean, but every time
he took one step forward he fell three steps back. Taylor entered Drug Court, after finding himself in a
lot of trouble with the law, due to drug related incidents. Drug Court is a state run program offered to
non violent felony offenders suffering from the disease of addiction. If you successfully complete the
3 5 year program, charges can be expunged immediately. But if you fail to complete the program, your
alternative sentence is state prison for the maximum term of your sentence. As Taylor took this
opportunity, he knew he had to be fully committed to his recovery or he would be faced with a 10 year
prison sentence. Commitment was not a problem; his life started to change for the better. He started
his own landscaping business, fell in love with a girl and seemed to be heading down the right road.
But as many do not understand, heroin retains such a ferocious grip on brain cells that relapses are part
of the recovery process. Though Taylor had every intention of getting clean, he struggled and he
relapsed on more than one occasion. The 10 year prison sentence

Multinational Business Corporations Gain More Power
Multinational Business Corporations Gain More Power
The world is entering a period where corporations are gaining more power in society. Multinational
business corporations will ultimately become more powerful than the government. Corporations
influence decisions made by the government by providing campaign funding and lobbying. Businesses
strive to satisfy their consumers wants and needs far well than the government strives to satisfy the
wants of its population. Financial crisis and recession can begin in areas where jobs provided by
corporations are lost, granting businesses power over the job market and gross domestic product. This
essay will address how corporations are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some corporations have larger revenue than the gross domestic product of some countries. Walmart
makes more revenue than Norway s GDP: Norway is the world s 25th largest country with a GDP at
$414.46 billion however still lower than Walmart s revenue which is $421.89 billion (Trivett, 2011).
Developing countries work very hard to attract foreign investments because corporations reward
thousands with jobs, benefit shareholders (rise share prices) and increase global well being. If a
corporation falls down, financial crisis and recession can begin. This power forces the government
keep corporations alive and satisfied so they continue to provide jobs for local residents.
In conclusion, these trends are allowing businesses to play a significantly larger role in people s daily
lives than the government. Corporations continue to grow as they invest in foreign countries thus
increasing their revenue and influencing local societies. Populations are beginning to look at
companies to solve social problems and corporations are doing it at a faster rate than the government.
Lastly, corporations are viewed in a higher regard in the eyes of the public versus the government.
Therefore, corporations will gain more power than the government if these trends continue to strive.

The Outsiders Character Analysis
It was only two gangs, three deaths, and many injuries, but the bloody, death defying, life changing
brawl is what ended all of the chaos. In book The Outsiders by S.E Hinton Ponyboy learns a lot about
being caring. In this novel two groups called the Socs and the Greasers fight each other continuously.
This leads them to unexpected fights and deaths, causing things to not go as planned.Ponyboy is
caring because he is thoughtful, trustworthy, and brave. Ponyboy is caring because he is thoughtful.
Towards the end of the story Ponyboy went to see Johnny while he was in the hospital. I think that
Pony taking his time to visit Johnny while the brawl was about to happen showed Pony s
thoughtfulness. It is clear to see that Ponyboy cares about other people more than himself. He went to
go visit Johnny in the hospital taking up his own time, Pony is being thoughtful. Maybe Johnny
wanted someone to come visit because he felt lonely. Next, Pony showed his thoughtfulness when he
risked his life to save the kids in the fire. On page 91 paragraph 8 Ponyboy said, I ll get them don t
worry I started for a dead charge for the church. I think that this shows the reader that Ponyboy wants
to put other people before himself and save the kids from the fire. Ponyboy is cleary thoughtful
because he was willing to die to save other people s lives and he is willing to lose his own life.

Persuasive Essay On Homework
Homework is defined as tasks assigned to students by school teachers that are intended to be carried
out during nonschool hours (Voorhees). Throughout the United States history, people s opinions have
varied on the topic of homework. Historically, variation in the opinions of homework have shifted
over time due to educational trends and world events. Today, the topic of homework continues to
cause debate among various organizations and schools of thought. Although homework has
demonstrated positive effects on students, homework should not be given to students because it is not
assigned appropriately, stressful for everyone, and does not benefit all students. While there are many
negatives towards assigning homework, there are a few positives that should be mentioned. In the
journal, The Case For and Against Homework , Robert Marzano and Debra Pickering state, The
average student in a class in which appropriate homework was assigned would score 23 percentile
points higher on tests of the knowledge addressed in that class than the average student in a class in
which homework was not assigned (76). This testing success that students receive from doing
homework can reinforce positive attitudes toward school and homework. Performing assignments at
home can give students the extra practice to fully master a subject matter taught. Mastering skills and
improving grades can provide a student with a sense of confidence in him/herself. By providing

Examples Of Erotic Love In Plato s Symposium
Erotic Love in Symposium
In Plato s Symposium, Aristophanes and Alcibiades share a specific view on love, while Diotima and
Socrates share another. Aristophanes sees love as a pursuit of wholeness and ultimately the desire for
humans to be complete. Aristophanes explains the origins of how humans came to have two arms and
two legs as well as one sex organ. Humans used to be creatures who existed with eight limbs as well
as two sexual organs, however they were far too ambitious and had even made an attempt on the gods.
When this event occurred, Zeus and other gods met in council, and in their meeting, they came to the
conclusion to cut humans in half, to ensure they could still exist yet not be overly ambitious. Humans
have been on the pursuit to find their literal other half ever since separation. In other words, to find
their soulmate. Aristophanes believes that Love is born into every human being; it calls back the
halves of our original nature together; it tries to make one out of two and heal the wound of human
nature. (p.19) Thus, confirming human beings longing and need for soulmates. Love originates from
the same values, whether it be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Socrates sees love as something that is in between being beautiful and ugly and believes that love is a
search for beauty and wisdom. Much like Diotima, Socrates presses Agathon to have him admit that
love is not beautiful as it desires beauty, and one does not desire what one already has therefore it is
not beautiful. Socrates view contrasts with that of Aristophanes from the benefits of love to the nature
of love, as Socrates sees no benefits in something that is not beautiful. Love is seen as primarily a
relational property by Socrates that holds between things rather than a desire or a need for another
person. Love is not itself beautiful or good or anything specific as much as it is a relation that holds
between the beautiful, the good, and those who

Causes Of Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Irritable bowel syndromes also known as IBS is a common disorder that affects the large intestine.
IBS is a chronic gastrointestinal disorder that causes inflammation in the digestive tract (FACOEP, J.
P. (n.d.)). The reasons why IBS develops are not clear. It can occur after an infection of the intestines
(Irritable bowel syndrome. (n.d.)). This is called post infectious IBS. The symptoms and signs of IBS
includes abdominal cramping, pain, bloating, gassiness, and alternating periods of diarrhea and
constipation, and sometimes mucus in the stool (FACOEP, J. P. (n.d.)) IBS can occur at any age.
Often, it begins in the teen years or early adulthood. It is twice as common in women as in men

and recruitment and selection. It also identifies and explains benefits of attracting and retaining a
diverse workforce, describes methods of recruitment and methods of selection.
Factors that affect an organisations approach to attracting talent
For an organisation to attract talent successfully, as part of the talent planning policy it needs to

occur. For example, all candidates should receive the same treatment and the process structured the
same way for each candidate.
4. Criteria Suitability criteria should be relevant to the job. This ensures that rational decisions based
on evidence are made about a candidate s suitability for the job. Therefore, the approach should be
professional, organised and decisions recorded in accordance with legal aspects and equal
opportunities as described above.

Connecticut State Track Committee Case Analysis
The Connecticut State Track Committee,
Upon your request to design a 200 meter indoor track that fulfills the constraints of straightaways
measuring 34 to 44 meters and lanes measuring 1.07 to 1.22 meters wide, I have designed a track that
should fulfill these requests. To elaborate, I began by picking some arbitrary values for the two
measurements that met the constraints. These came out to be 40 meters of the straightaways
respectively and 1.2 meter lane widths. These values were chosen first as they would make further
calculations easier and actual construction of the track simpler. Should the radii of the semicircular
ends of the track have been chosen first, these numbers would come out to be irrational and therefore,
would be hard to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was both calculated in meters and degrees so that it would be easier to find this location. This
was needed to be found because otherwise, all runners except the one in lane 1 would end up running
more than they need. This would cause the race to be unfair because with a greater distance, it would
take a greater time to run the race. The former of the two methods, the starting position by distance,
was determined by taking the total distance found in the step before and subtracting it from the
intended distance, 200 meters. This value gave me how far ahead each subsequent runner after the first
had to be in order for the race to be fair. Again, 200 meters was used because one of the criteria of the
track design was that the total distance for one lap was to be 200 meters. Finding the starting position
by the central angle (degrees) was a bit more complicated. To begin, I knew the circumference of the
ends of the track from a previous step and and the length of the offset from determining the starting
position in meters. With this information, I could use the Arc Length formula: AM360=ALC. I could
then rearrange this formula to solve for the AM, the measure of the central angle of the arc in degrees.
This rearrangement resulted in the following formula: AM=AL360C. This formula works in this
application because the central angle of the arc

Censorship And Censorship Of Music
Throughout the years, music has evolved and transformed in many ways. However, there are
restrictions in today s music, otherwise known as, censorships. A crisis has emerged concerning the
issue of censorship. This argument consists of two possible stances: one, supporting the continuation
of censorship, and two, eliminating the status quo of censorships in the music industry. There have
been countless debates and arguments regarding the issues of censorship ever since the U.S. Congress
passed the Radio Act in 1927 (The History). The time has arrived for censorship to be brought to an
end. The government should release their grip on the censorship of music for the following reasons: it

I can t seem. To find myself again. My walls are closing in. (Linkin Park, Crawling ). These lyrics just
show to prove how much emotion was displayed into the song itself. With that said, censorship
sabotages an artist s intent to express themselves. Not only does it limit one s ability to put forth one s
feelings into his or her songs, but it also affects the artist s creativity.
Second of all, music should not be censored because it reduces an artist s capability to be creative. A
musician uses certain lyrics for a reason. Every lyric has some sort of meaning. Whether it be to
rhyme with a subsequent phrase, or going with the flow. Regardless of its purpose, it still has value.
However, creativity is not only limited to the lyrics in a song. Creativity can also be express through
rhythm and tone. The downside, one can only have so much creativity than resides in the tone of a
song. In the song, Never Take Away My Freedom it says, Can take everything I own. You can have
and sing my song. You can never take away my freedom (David Guetta). This means that he could be
stripped of everything that he owns. But his freedom can never be taken away by anyone. This holds
true about music as well. Artists have the ability to create any kind of music they wish. Lyrics help
surpass that limitation of creativity. An artist s lyrics cannot and should not be contained by the power
of the government. It takes time and dedication to create music. Musicians carefully

The Impact the Romans Made on British Isles
Examine the impact the Romans made on the British Isles Although there had been increasing contact
between the British Isles and the classical world during the Late Iron Age, the first real Roman
presence here was that of Julius Caesar. In 55BC a Roman army of around ten thousand men crossed
the channel and invaded Britain, yet were defeated and had to return to Gaul. Then in the following
year; 54BC, Caesar came to Britain again. This time with a much larger army, although on this
occasion he won the majority of battles and was victorious, he still returned to Gaul. It wasn t until
43AD that the real invasion took place and the real Romanisation of the British Isles began.

Those from the lower social class still lived in Iron Age houses within poor rural communities. They
still relied on Pre Roman farming technology to live and trade from. This was shown when
archaeologist discovered a settlement in Devon dating back to the Roman period. The remains show
inhabitants were still living in native roundhouses, as Britons had done for centuries before, despite
the presence of Roman pottery and coins.[4] One of the most visible changes in landscape was the
construction of Roman roads. Prior to this, Britain used unpaved track ways for their communications.
The Roman created straight, paved roads which could be used in all weather conditions. The
development of Over 9,000kilometres of roads meant communication and travel from one area of
Britain to another was made substantially easier. Although they were mainly designed for a military
purpose, it had a positive impact on trade as it became easier to transport goods. Speaking of trade, the
Romans made vast improvements in agriculture. They introduced to Britain a range of new crops, as
well as better farming equipment. Iron equipment created by the Romans allowed farmers to work on
much larger and tougher areas of land which would have proved too difficult during the pre roman era.
Along with this, livestock was also improved;

What Is The Topic Of The Outliers By Malcolm Gladwell
Malcolm Gladwell makes many debatable claims in his book The Outliers . One of these controversial
topics is brought up in chapter three when he talks about a person s IQ and how that relates to one s
success. After reading Outliers I believe that this is the most controversial topic. I agree with Malcolm
Gladwell because there are a lot of people who are not really smart that are very successful, success
can be viewed differently by different people, and by my own experiences on the U High soccer team.

definition of success that is specific to themselves and it is based around their hopes and desires in
their own life. In fact for some of these people who s definition of success is something that doesn t

Criminal Punishment And The Criminal Justice System
Few decisions in the criminal justice system apply as much influence over the life, liberty and the
pursuit of happiness of criminal offenders as the final sentencing decision. Judges have an extensive
range of sentencing options. These options range from fines, restitution, and probation to incarceration
in jail or prison. For much of the 20th century, criminal sentencing practices remained largely
unchanged in the United States. Over the past few decades, we have witnessed a practical revolution
in criminal punishment processes. A number of different sentencing reforms have been recently
expanded, resulting in a mix of different legal approaches to sentencing in the United States today. I

Lastly, rehabilitation is a philosophy of punishment that stresses individual offender reform.
According to this perception, the purpose of this punishment should be to address the fundamental
causes of crime in order to reduce future offending. In practice, these various sentencing foundations
often coincide, throughout history major changes in sentencing have often followed model changes in
major philosophies of punishment.
During colonial times, criminal sentencing in America was initially based on retribution and then later
on deterrence (Walker, 1998). By the late 1800s, however, sentencing in America had become
carefully conquered by rehabilitation. The goal of criminal punishment was to reform the offender by
shifting the basic causes of crime. In order to accomplish this, criminal sentences had to be necessarily
flexible to be separately reformed to the sole needs of particular offenders. This led to a system of
punishment known as indeterminate sentencing. Sentences often consisted of wide ranges of minimum
and maximum terms that could spring from a single day to a lifetime in prison. These far reaching
sentences provided maximum flexibility for determining when an offender was therefore ready to be
released back into society.
Judges would determine the ranges of punishment, and then release their decisions to be made by
prison authorities or parole boards. Such authorities would exercise considerable discretion in

3D printing ensures pinpoint accuracy, enables mass customization and gives you the ability of
handling almost any level of complexity. With this technology we can literally say that you are limited
by your imagination. While the printing technology is awesome, it comes with its fair share of
negatives. Here are 4 common 3D printing problems and how to fix them:
Warping
Warping is when one or more corners of your printing machine lift up until the base of the model is no
longer at level with the print platform. This results to horizontal cracks in the upper parts of your
machine.
The problem comes about when the plastic of the first layers of your machine cool down thus start

There are many ways in which you can do it. One of the most effective ways is using rafts which give
the print a larger surface area at the base.
Stringing
If you have been using your printing machine for long you must have come across this problem.
Stringing happens when you have tiny little hairs between the gaps of your print.
The problem results when some filament drips from the nozzle when the print moves over an open
part.
Stringing is a problem that fixable. One of the ways of fixing it is enabling retraction. Retraction is a
feature on your printing software. When you enable retraction the printer retracts the filament in the
nozzle before the travel moves. This ensures that no surplus plastic drips from the nozzle thus
producing strings.
Cracks
Cracks are common on tall, thin models. The cracks and gaps are found in the sides of the model. The
cool thing with the problem is that it s easy to fix. One of the things that you need to do is increase the
extruder temperature in 10 degree increments. If this trick doesn t work increase the bed temperature

Accomplishments During The Renaissance
The renaissance is one of the most fascinating and unique periods of European history. It began in
Italy about 1350 and in the rest of Europe after 1450 and lasted until about 1620. Furthermore, the
renaissance is a historical event known as the period of the revival of art, literature, and learning in
Europe. The name Renaissance originates from several Italian Scholars in the early 15th century that
used the term rinascità ( rebirth or renaissance ) to describe their own age as one in which learning,
literature, music and the arts were reborn after a long, dark Middle Ages. (The Columbia
Encyclopedia,2016). Likewise, it was also the time of the Humanism. The intellectual movement
called humanism focused on human life and its achievements. The humanists were fascinated by
cultures of ancient Greece and Rome.
Music is an art that appears in all cultures all over the world. Moreover, during the Renaissance, vocal
music was more dominant than instrumental music, and composers wrote music to enhance the
meaning of the text. In fact, music played a significant role in society during this period as it helped to
shape, advance cultures and was an essential part of civic, religious, and courtly life. The new ideas in
Europe, as well as economic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Music publishing did not begin on a large scale until the mid 15th century when mechanical
techniques for printing music were first developed. Many of the Renaissance printers who played an
important role in the advance of printing were also accomplished musicians, composers, and
distributed music. This was the first stages of music being made widely available to the public. Earlier,
music had to be copied out by hand which was a very labor intensive and time consuming process, so
it was usually undertaken only by priests that were seeking to preserve sacred music for the church. In
other words, printing was a much cheaper

How Baz Luhrmann s Interpretation of the Prologue Engages...
How Baz Luhrmann s Interpretation of the Prologue Engages the Audience s Attention and Makes
them Want to Watch the Rest of the Film How is it that after watching the opening sequence to Baz
Luhrmann s Romeo and Juliet film (properly titled William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet) about
twenty times, the exhilarating thrill I experience from it still has not faded out? To grab the attention
of the viewers and keep their eyes glued to the screen as the movie starts, the director uses a variety of
special techniques, also to make it clear to the audience that this film is a far cry from the original
dullness associated with Shakespeare play recreations. Firstly, the range of music; the booming ...

This is the thought which Baz Luhrmann wants to put into the audiences mind for their first
impression of not so fair Verona; so after the news report is told, the camera whizzes into the screen
behind the news reader which displays a blown up petrol station, burning away as chaos fills the air.
The serenade of blasting classic opera music, which is played while the images of the shocking city
are presented, makes the seriousness and dramatic quality. The rapid montage of imagery adds to the
rush of adrenaline that is felt when you watch this scene. A police helicopter is shown hovering
unsteadily in the air. Moreover, as if it is being shot from the helicopter, bird s eye view shots are
taken with speed shots many long shots zooming into close ups as the panoramic view of the city is
previewed. It is as if Verona is being shaken by the crime when the noisy helicopter makes the camera
focus shaky. The fast editing which shows us police cars, people being chased and people being
injured makes the upbeat anxiety more effective. Another aspect of the opening, which I found
effective, is the voice over. Made to seem God like, it echoes the story in brief, in a somewhat worried
and disappointed tone of voice. Luhrmann indicates the ongoing vendetta by showing the close up
pictures of the families on Newspaper with flames flickering in front of the headlines,

Lille Tissage
Executive Summary
Lille Tissages, S.A is a French company located in Lille. It was the largest company in the textile
industry in France.
During its activity, the company got in 2003 a good year with sales exceeding FF96million.
One of the items of the company, Item 345 a sole product for the company saw its price raised in 2002
from FF15 to FF20 a meter. This decision has been taken in order to strengthen the capital position.
However, the competitors kept their price at FF15 for similar items and the company Lille Tissages,
S.A lost market shares. Consequently, the sales director is afraid that because Lille Tissage does not
meet the competitive price the volume of sales will decrease significantly.
This is the reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Question 3:Is there any possibility that competition might raise their prices if Lille Tissages maintains
its price of FF20? If so, how do you take this factor into your analysis?
Indeed, if Lille Tissages, S.A maintains its price of FF20 the competitors might raise their prices even
if it gives them a competitive advantage if they are lower. But because they all have higher costs and
some of them are in tight financial straits they might consider an increase of their price.
However, this raise of the competitors might be benefit to Lille Tissages, S.A. Indeed, we know that
Lille Tissages,S.A has a better quality than its competitor and the clients might choose a better quality
for a same price. And competitors will lose market shares which will benefit to Lille Tissages, S.A that

Confucianism, Shinto, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and Sikhism, they are all unique in their own way
and they each give something to their followers that they need and are seeking. While all of these
religions seem to have the same end goal they are different in many ways as well. Take Christianity
and Islam. Christianity is a faith that follows the teachings of Jesus Christ. He is considered the Son of
God that cam down from heaven in human form to then sacrifice His life for the sins of mankind. He

Analyse the aims, motives and policies of Cavour between...
Cavour was a very important, if not key player in the reunification of Italy in the 1800s. His role in
Italian unification is widely debated, as are is aims and underlying motives. Many hold contrasting
views as to whether he was an Italian nationalist or merely a Piedmontese expansionist, and the
subject is still a controversial one to this day. The existence of many wide ranging sources which often
challenge each other on the subject does not make the task of determining what drove Cavour any
easier for scholars. It is often agreed, however, that Cavour was a very important catalyst in the
unification of Italy, wittingly or not. In this essay I shall examine Cavour s role in Italy in the period
between 1852 and 1861, and attempt to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is of interest to note that Napoleon III had been a member of the secret Carbonari society in the
Papal States and elsewhere during 1930 1931, which sought to win liberal, constitutional and national
reform. This coupled with the fact that foreign action in support of Italy would also win him support at
home and that his attempted assassination involved him more deeply in Italian politics, means that
Napoleon s support for Cavour was almost guaranteed. It is probable that Cavour knew this, and thus
took full advantage of the fact.
By now it seemed Cavour had earned himself some adversaries as well, however, such as prominent
political figures Giuseppe Mazzini and Pallavicino. An illustration of this rivalry lies in this extract of
a letter Mazzini sent to Cavour in 1856:
Between you and us, sir, an abyss yawns. We represent Italy, you the old, covetous, faint hearted
ambitions of the house of Savoy. We desire above all National Unity. You, territorial aggrandisement
for Piedmont...
This shows that Cavour was already under suspicion from hard line republicans and Italian
nationalists to be supporting Piedmont more than Italy as a whole.
His next actions did not help to improve his image with them, however, as can be seen by the
Plombieres pact of 1858. This was a secret meeting between Napoleon and Cavour in which a deal
was struck: In exchange for

Irony In Cast Away
The only real change comes from inside. There is nothing in life that will ever change you drastically
unless you let it. Life will only change you if you let it, that s why people walk around like they are
protecting themselves with an imperceptible forcefield of false sangfroid attempting to act like they
have their entire life together. The only way to perceive change is to go through a slow process of self
development. In the movie Cast Away, Tom Hanks does a marvelous job of portraying how isolation
and desperation can have a negative toll on a fragile mind. Cast Away in its entirety is just one big ball
of irony so to speak. Many instances in this move have a large variety of irony and importance. For
example, after the thanksgiving dinner, Chuck is getting called into work and is required to fly
overseas. Goodbyes are never easy, but Chuck is not thinking about that; Chuck is trying to get back
to Kelly as soon a possible. This is shown by him saying be right back after he steps out of the car.
This very simple action, that has so much meaning behind it. Chucks plane experiences complications
and unfortunately crashes in the middle of the sea. The plane crash thus proves how Chucks statement
of be right back is ironic. Another way the directors are showing irony is not through words, but
actions and camera angles. One of Chucks first actions when he gets onto the island is to write HELP
in the sand, in hopes to catch the attention of a an airplane flying

Analysis Of The Movie The Hunger Games

seems to like, in the woods so they can do some hunting for food. As she s walking, she thinks about
her mother and her younger sister, Prim, who is 12 years old. They have depended on Katniss for food
ever since their father died in a mine explosion when Katniss was 11. It s the day of the reaping, which
is very stressful because it determines which boy and girl, ages 12 to 18, will serve as the district s
tributes in the Hunger Games. Each of the 12 districts must draw two tributes, and those tributes are
sent to an arena where they fight to the death until only one tribute remains alive. The victor s district
is given gifts, mainly food, and the victor returns home. The Capitol of Panem puts on the Games to
remind and punish the 12 districts of the Dark Days, which was when the 13th district was destroyed
for attempting to rise up against the cruel and merciless Capitol. The reaping begins and Prim s name
is drawn. Katniss freaks out and volunteers to take her place, making her District 12 s girl tribute. The
boy tribute s name is drawn and it s Peeta Mellark, who is the baker s son and the same age at Katniss.

How Does Halo Effect Influence Our Daily Lives?
Halo effect is one of the cognitive bias. According to Edward Thorndike, the first psychologist to

Labor Effects On Child Labor
Title Due to the failure of Hershey s voluntary efforts to stop child labor from being used within its
supply chain, the U.S. government should enforce existing federal law against the importation of
products made with forced labor. Trafficked Labor and Poor Working Conditions Hershey sources
much of its cocoa from West Africa a region plagued by extreme poverty and known for extensive use
of trafficked child labor. Though the countries of Ghana and the Ivory Coast provide 70 percent of the
world s cocoa supply(2?) horrible work conditions persist in the agriculture sector. Starting in the late
1990 s, reports of slave labor on cocoa farms began to appear in the media. In 1998, a newspaper in
Cote d Ivoire reported the widespread practice of trafficking and indenturing Malian boys for work on
Ivorian cocoa plantations. The United States Department of State reported an initial estimate of 15,000
Malian children working on Ivorian cocoa and coffee plantations. Many of the child workers were
under the age of 12, and were sold into indentured servitude for as little as $140. These children were
made to work for 12 hour days for annual salaries between $135 to $189(4?). By itself, the fact that
these children are working under the age of 12 violates widely accepted international labor standards.

Whether it be because of, gender, race, religion, etc.., society tries to put us into precalculated and
absolute groups. Furthermore, because of society, from the second we are born, we are enslaved and
held responsible to live through someone else s ideas of what is right for you and others. Every task in
life can be seen as a burden, you re expected to be cleanly and brush your teeth, you re obligated to
wear clothes in public, you re supposed to wash your hands after you go to the bathroom. Although all
of these examples seem like the right thing to do, they are also examples of being enslaved to a certain
way of life, ruled by society. Nietzsche validates that, there is much that is difficult for the spirit, the
strong reverent spirit that would bear much: but the difficult and the most difficult are what its
strength demands. In other terms, Nietzsche acknowledges that shitty, even unfair things are going to
happen to you in life and that is hard to be a minority and create change but, it s necessary; what doesn
t kill you makes you stronger. Through the camels humbling yet challenging experiences, they gain
the strength through the suffering and hardships, to move towards a more resilient state which
promotes one s true self, and the ability to overcome thou shalts . (add sentence)

2 avpadgavhankar@sinhgad .edu Abstract This paper is concerned with the basic theory of a
Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation, considering different designing parameters and various
uncertainty. The project will start by a basic understanding of the circuit of the pwm Inverter, the
components used in the design and the reason for selecting such components in this circuit. After this,
tried to simulate a model circuit on any simulating software e.g. MATLAB and analyze the output
waveforms for various values of the elements used in the circuit and hence study the system response
and instabilities. key words: PV cell , SPWM. I. INTRODUCTION An inverter is basically a device
that converts electrical energy of DC form into that of AC. The Purpose of DC AC inverter is to take
DC power from a battery source and converts it to AC. For example the household inverter receives
DC supply from 12V or 24V battery and then inverter converts it to 240V AC with a desirable
frequency of 50Hz or 60Hz. These DC AC

Evils of Money and Industrialization in the Film, The...
Evils of Money and Industrialization in the Film, The Wages of Fear The messages or themes of The
Wages of Fear are fairly easy to understand. Among them all, the strongest of these messages is that,
simply, money and greed can corrupt and even kill. This message is clear in several aspects of the
film. For example, the plot of the story is that several men take on an incredibly dangerous task,
knowing they could die, because the completion of the task could bring them a large sum of money.
Of course, the incentive behind their choice can be attributed to the local American oil company that is
offering the money, which controls the local economy in the first place (the implication is that these
men would not have to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One could argue that the characters own lust for money and material objects caused them to take the
job transporting the nitroglycerine, and it is their own fault for what happened. After all, when the
American oil company went in search of people to hire for the task, they made it very clear what the
dangers were, and were entirely honest with the drivers about the possible consequences that they
could face. If this argument is to hold fast then, the reasons that the four men, Mario, Bimba, Luigi,
and Jo, accepted the job must be explored more closely. Was it only the lust for money that caused
them to put themselves in danger, or did they have other motives? To answer this question, the first
two characters that should be looked at are Jo and Mario. These are the two characters who undergo
the largest character development throughout the film, and who have the most in depth reasons for
putting themselves in danger. First, there is Jo. He is the older career criminal/gangster/ tough guy. His
life revolves around portraying an image of being couth, and projecting his superior ego on other
people. Mario is the younger tough guy, still trying to make a reputation for himself, who believes that
by hooking up with Jo he can gain some respect from the other people around him. For

Christian Dalits And The Caste Essay
Christian Dalits also suffer alienation from their fellow Hindu Dalits because of social and religious
differences. Hindu Dalits see their fellow Christian Dalits as potential competitors in the share of
reservations which are given by the government. This disfavor is primarily due to non Christian Dalits
seeing their Christian counterparts as already having benefited from and uplifted by missionary and
ecclesiastical assistance. Many of them also see conversion to Christianity as a shameful surrender of
one s beliefs.
Dalit Christians also receive persecution from fellow Christians who are not part of a scheduled caste.
Since the Scheduled Caste Act only applies to Dalits, people who are of higher caste status are exempt
from the loss of their caste identity. Even though these people profess Christian beliefs, they still
practice social distance, untouchability, and social stratification toward their Dalit counterparts. Many
of them append their caste suffix to their names, which are read in the church at marriages, funerals,
and other occasions. This behavior is seen evidently in Tamil Nadu.
There are many discriminations that exist within both Catholic and Protestant churches toward Dalit
Christians in Tamil Nadu. One of the most striking practices is the construction of two separate
chapels; one for non Dalits, and the other for Dalits. When both groups do have services together, the
Dalits are expected to take seats on the floor even if there are benches or chairs.

  • 2. The Drug Of Drug Addiction Essay Watching my older brother struggle with drug addiction has taught me more in my life than anything else. He was a smart kid with a good head on his shoulders. As he grew older he made some unwise choices with regard to substance abuse that quickly turned into a full blown addiction lasting over five years and landed him in and out of four different rehabs. He was striving to get clean, but every time he took one step forward he fell three steps back. Taylor entered Drug Court, after finding himself in a lot of trouble with the law, due to drug related incidents. Drug Court is a state run program offered to non violent felony offenders suffering from the disease of addiction. If you successfully complete the 3 5 year program, charges can be expunged immediately. But if you fail to complete the program, your alternative sentence is state prison for the maximum term of your sentence. As Taylor took this opportunity, he knew he had to be fully committed to his recovery or he would be faced with a 10 year prison sentence. Commitment was not a problem; his life started to change for the better. He started his own landscaping business, fell in love with a girl and seemed to be heading down the right road. But as many do not understand, heroin retains such a ferocious grip on brain cells that relapses are part of the recovery process. Though Taylor had every intention of getting clean, he struggled and he relapsed on more than one occasion. The 10 year prison sentence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Multinational Business Corporations Gaining More Power in... Multinational Business Corporations Gain More Power Multinational Business Corporations Gain More Power The world is entering a period where corporations are gaining more power in society. Multinational business corporations will ultimately become more powerful than the government. Corporations influence decisions made by the government by providing campaign funding and lobbying. Throughout the United States history, people s opinions have varied on the topic of homework. Historically, variation in the opinions of homework have shifted over time due to educational trends and world events. Aristophanes sees love as a pursuit of wholeness and ultimately the desire for humans to be complete. Aristophanes explains the origins of how humans came to have two arms and two legs as well as one sex organ. Humans used to be creatures who existed with eight limbs as well as two sexual organs, however they were far too ambitious and had even made an attempt on the gods. When this event occurred, Zeus and other gods met in council, and in their meeting, they came to the conclusion to cut humans in half, to ensure they could still exist yet not be overly ambitious. Humans have been on the pursuit to find their literal other half ever since separation. In other words, to find their soulmate. Aristophanes believes that Love is born into every human being; it calls back the halves of our original nature together; it tries to make one out of two and heal the wound of human nature. To elaborate, I began by picking some arbitrary values for the two measurements that met the constraints. These came out to be 40 meters of the straightaways respectively and 1.2 meter lane widths. These values were chosen first as they would make further calculations easier and actual construction of the track simpler. Should the radii of the semicircular ends of the track have been chosen first, these numbers would come out to be irrational and therefore, would be hard to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was both calculated in meters and degrees so that it would be easier to find this location. This was needed to be found because otherwise, all runners except the one in lane 1 would end up running more than they need. This would cause the race to be unfair because with a greater distance, it would take a greater time to run the race. The former of the two methods, the starting position by distance, was determined by taking the total distance found in the step before and subtracting it from the intended distance, 200 meters. This value gave me how far ahead each subsequent runner after the first had to be in order for the race to be fair. Again, 200 meters was used because one of the criteria of the track design was that the total distance for one lap was to be 200 meters. Finding the starting position by the central angle (degrees) was a bit more complicated. To begin, I knew the circumference of the ends of the track from a previous step and and the length of the offset from determining the starting position in meters. With this information, I could use the Arc Length formula: AM360=ALC. I could then rearrange this formula to solve for the AM, the measure of the central angle of the arc in degrees. This rearrangement resulted in the following formula: AM=AL360C. This formula works in this application because the central angle of the arc ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There have been countless debates and arguments regarding the issues of censorship ever since the U.S. Congress passed the Radio Act in 1927 (The History). With that said, censorship sabotages an artist s intent to express themselves. Not only does it limit one s ability to put forth one s feelings into his or her songs, but it also affects the artist s creativity. Second of all, music should not be censored because it reduces an artist s capability to be creative. A musician uses certain lyrics for a reason. Every lyric has some sort of meaning. Whether it be to rhyme with a subsequent phrase, or going with the flow. Regardless of its purpose, it still has value. However, creativity is not only limited to the lyrics in a song. Creativity can also be express through rhythm and tone. The downside, one can only have so much creativity than resides in the tone of a song. In the song, Never Take Away My Freedom it says, Can take everything I own. You can have and sing my song. You can never take away my freedom (David Guetta). This means that he could be stripped of everything that he owns. But his freedom can never be taken away by anyone. This holds true about music as well. By the late 1800s, however, sentencing in America had become carefully conquered by rehabilitation. The goal of criminal punishment was to reform the offender by shifting the basic causes of crime. In order to accomplish this, criminal sentences had to be necessarily flexible to be separately reformed to the sole needs of particular offenders. This led to a system of punishment known as indeterminate sentencing. Sentences often consisted of wide ranges of minimum and maximum terms that could spring from a single day to a lifetime in prison. His role in Italian unification is widely debated, as are is aims and underlying motives. Many hold contrasting views as to whether he was an Italian nationalist or merely a Piedmontese expansionist, and the subject is still a controversial one to this day. The existence of many wide ranging sources which often challenge each other on the subject does not make the task of determining what drove Cavour any easier for scholars. It is often agreed, however, that Cavour was a very important catalyst in the unification of Italy, wittingly or not. It is of interest to note that Napoleon III had been a member of the secret Carbonari society in the Papal States and elsewhere during 1930 1931, which sought to win liberal, constitutional and national reform. This coupled with the fact that foreign action in support of Italy would also win him support at home and that his attempted assassination involved him more deeply in Italian politics, means that Napoleon s support for Cavour was almost guaranteed. It is probable that Cavour knew this, and thus took full advantage of the fact. By now it seemed Cavour had earned himself some adversaries as well, however, such as prominent political figures Giuseppe Mazzini and Pallavicino. An illustration of this rivalry lies in this extract of a letter Mazzini sent to Cavour in 1856: Between you and us, sir, an abyss yawns. We represent Italy, you the old, covetous, faint hearted ambitions of the house of Savoy. We desire above all National Unity. You, territorial aggrandisement for Piedmont... This shows that Cavour was already under suspicion from hard line republicans and Italian nationalists to be supporting Piedmont more than Italy as a whole. His next actions did not help to improve his image with them, however, as can be seen by the Plombieres pact of 1858. • 33. Irony In Cast Away The only real change comes from inside. There is nothing in life that will ever change you drastically unless you let it. Life will only change you if you let it, that s why people walk around like they are protecting themselves with an imperceptible forcefield of false sangfroid attempting to act like they have their entire life together. The only way to perceive change is to go through a slow process of self development. In the movie Cast Away, Tom Hanks does a marvelous job of portraying how isolation and desperation can have a negative toll on a fragile mind. Cast Away in its entirety is just one big ball of irony so to speak. Many instances in this move have a large variety of irony and importance. For example, after the thanksgiving dinner, Chuck is getting called into work and is required to fly overseas. Goodbyes are never easy, but Chuck is not thinking about that; Chuck is trying to get back to Kelly as soon a possible. This is shown by him saying be right back after he steps out of the car. This very simple action, that has so much meaning behind it. Chucks plane experiences complications and unfortunately crashes in the middle of the sea. The plane crash thus proves how Chucks statement of be right back is ironic. Another way the directors are showing irony is not through words, but actions and camera angles. One of Chucks first actions when he gets onto the island is to write HELP in the sand, in hopes to catch the attention of a an airplane flying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Though the countries of Ghana and the Ivory Coast provide 70 percent of the world s cocoa supply(2?) horrible work conditions persist in the agriculture sector. Starting in the late 1990 s, reports of slave labor on cocoa farms began to appear in the media. Many of the child workers were under the age of 12, and were sold into indentured servitude for as little as $140. By itself, the fact that these children are working under the age of 12 violates widely accepted international labor standards. (4?).
