Reflection Paper On Strategic Management
This reflection paper will cover the lessons that I have learned from the cases and readings. Most
importantly it will expand on classroom discussions with Professor Dew and my peers; it is here
where I believe that I found the most valuable education. I will conclude with how this course has
influenced my way of thinking and how I will plan to apply these acquired Strategic Management
lessons in my future assignments and military billets. Thru the course I have learned that Strategic
Management builds on many processes and that various companies and organizations with diverse
backgrounds can teach us valuable lessons. To be on the lookout for what can be considered a
beneficial development in an organization or perhaps what can be a bad plan plausibly implemented at
the wrong time. As military members we are educated to think very linearly about strategy. For many
years we have been trained to have a strategic thought process based on the use of a methodology that
espouses three major steps: Ends (Objectives), Ways (Strategic Concepts), and Means (Resources).
(Barber 1997) However I have learned that goals and objectives of an organization are in continuous
change and they suffer from a lack of adaptation, our problems evolve and we fail to perceive the
subtle and not so subtle changes as well as not adjusting accordingly to the drift in direction (inertia).
That is why I think that a course such as this one is very valuable and offers many trends that are

Figurative Language In The Jungle By Richard Connell
Richard Connell uses figurative language in the story to add richness and spark by using metaphors
and similes. Part of the American Culture is slang which is metaphors and similes. It s just how we
talk and communicate. Even in a story with a scary, mysterious type of mood we can still have slang. I
will explain some of the metaphors and similes throughout the story and how they add the richness the
story s needs. When Richard Connell quotes trying to peer through the dank tropical night that was
palpable as it pressed its thick warm blackness in upon the yacht. , he uses the key phrases such as
pressed its thick warm blackness in upon the yacht . This key phrase is showing a detailed way to say
that it was getting dark and into the night. But instead of being unimaginative and dull, Connell
describes the night so it s easy to imagine using a simile that we can relate to. ... Show more content

Paul s Missionary Journeys and Epistle Correlates
Paul s Missionary Journeys and Epistle Correlates The missionary journeys of Paul cover a major
portion of the Book of the Acts of the Apostles (commonly shortened to Acts). Acts demonstrates, at
least in part, how the journeys relate to the writing of the Epistles or letters to various congregations
that needed encouragement or some other word from Paul, and when they were written. The three
journeys happened in close relation to one another and were meant to spread the Gospel message to
the unsaved and encourage those who had come to believe on the Son of Man. The letters were written
as an inspiration from the Father to further the understanding of believers regarding the perfect life of
a Christian. This papers describes in short form the three missionary journeys of Paul and how they
relate, chronologically, to Paul s writing of the epistles. Missionary Journeys The first element of the
journeys was who traveled with Paul. He went on the first with Barnabas and Mark. Barnabas was
regarded as a coworker and Mark as an apprentice or helper according to Niswonger (1992, 209). The
second journey was much longer, as concerns distance, but did not take as much time and was
accomplished with Silas. The third journey is a solo one apparently (McGee, 1998). The approximate
dates of the three journeys are First from 45 AD to 47 AD, Second from 51 AD to 53 AD and Third
from 54 AD to 58 AD (McGee, 1998). Of course all of these dates are somewhat speculative, but they

Sexism In Society
Sexism, racism, and violence have been a part of the world since the beginning of time. Everyday, it is
clear that issues such as these continue to play a role in the lives of many people. Our society has
moved forward in the direction towards ending racism, sexism, and violence, but these changes still
do not meet the standard of decency. Despite the modern movement for women s rights being
implemented into today s society, as well as efforts to eliminate racism and violent language,
humanity needs to become more progressive in order to create a truly equal society. Violence in
language gives the general public the image that violence is tolerable, while also promoting brutality.
Language guidelines from the North York Women Teacher s Association alter violent phrases such as,
get away with murder into its alternative, avoid consequences. Violence has made its way into modern
language where the majority of people do not necessarily try to stop it. According to Michiko
Kakutani, a Pulitzer Prize winning literary critic, the prohibition of certain words, phrases, and ideas is

Sexism in modern life is men receiving a higher salary than women for just being men. The idea that
women cannot be strong while being independent is absurd. Society uses harsh language towards
women as if the negativity in the words have a neutral tone and meaning, when in fact they represent
the very reason why women are still viewed as weaker and dependent upon men. Sexism will not
cease to exist unless the degrading of women stops. According to Kakutani s The Word Police, the
1991 edition of the Random House Webster s Dictionary includes linguistic mutations to avoid
sexism, such as the change from women to womyn, and waiter or waitress to waitron. This shows how
some communities have accepted that both genders should be equally treated and

American History Chapter 1 Summary
James W. Loewen dedicated his book to all American history teachers who teach against their
textbooks, but it s a read for Students who have taken a course in American History. Intended to
expose the lies teachers and textbooks have taught students about American History, Loewen talks
about what most students do know versus what is the real truth. It lets students know how textbooks
leaves out info, which in turn downplays many events in history. This is why students think history is
boring, it is filled with facts instead of the truth, which would keep students interested and emotionally
invested. Textbooks in schools ideally cover up the truth of history and only gives limited facts,
instead of telling the truth and allowing students to have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
textbooks do anything to shield what America did to others. When learning about the Vietnam War it
was always very brief, so students never seen the harsh things that happened. Loewen thinks that the
Vietnam War is overshadowed by the War of 1812 because it is still a recent event and causes
controversy and tension. Usually textbooks only show images of planes bombing Vietnam instead of
the real impact and damage that was done. In Vietnam the United States dropped three times as many
explosives as it dropped in all theaters of World War 2, even including our nuclear bombing of
Hiroshima and Nagasaki, so textbook authors had many images of bomb damage to choose from...
Nonetheless, not one textbook showed any damage done by our side (Pg.248) Students don t

Competitive Cheerleading Persuasive Essay
Cheerleading is a sport!!
Hit! Hit! Pull! This is what keeps me and my competitive cheer teams energy up in our two minute
and thirty second routine that consists of stunting, tumbling, standing tumbling, and a dance which is
at the end of the routine. In 2013, competitive cheerleading is not considered an official sport. There s
been a lot of push for cheerleading recognition. Cheerleading should be considered a sport because in
competitive cheer you have to really push yourself physically and mentally. Especially, when you re at
practice or competing with your team.
What is a sport? According to Dictionary.com a sport is an athletic activity requiring skill or physical
prowess and often of a competitive nature. I ask myself all the time if gymnastics is considered a sport
then why isn t competitive cheerleading considered a sport. In gymnastics you are on a team but you
compete individually. Gymnasts do each event by themselves while entertaining others. In competitive
cheerleading you re on a team and you also compete with your team while entertaining others. About
98% of all female cheerleaders were former gymnasts. I believe that when this argument comes up
people immediately think of school cheer, just yelling words or cheers. Obviously if yelling words

Death Penalty And Ethical Analysis
Understanding Ethics as a whole in its definition seems pretty simple. By that assumption, the
application of ethics should also be pretty simple. Should. There are numerous circumstances where
ethics of certain individuals can be and are called into question.
While perusing the internet, and other available resources for specific examples, an article that
sparked interest was written in regards to medical professionals participating in executions. This
raised a number of different questions oriented toward ethics. Is the death penalty morally, or ethically
acceptable? If so, why is it not more widely or wholly accepted across the United States? Is it
acceptable for a medical professional to participate in an execution if the American Medical ... Show

Can or should the State or Federal government mandate medical professional involvement? Is it
ethical if it directly goes against a Doctor s Hippocratic Oath? Is it already spelled out in the Eighth
Amendment? According to a different article from the New England Journal of Medicine The
Supreme Court did not and cannot solve this medical ethics problem for America s physicians. State
legislatures continue to have the authority under the Constitution to determine whether or not to
require executions by lethal injection, and physicians continue to have the legal freedom to determine
whether placing their medical skills at the service of the state to execute condemned prisoners is
consistent with medical ethics. In this regard, physicians could again come to the rescue of the law by
helping corrections officials make executions by lethal injection less risky, less cruel, and more
medicalized, routinized, and sanitized (Annas, 2008, p 1517). In all, the debate still remains on
whether or not it is ethical for a medical professional to participate in a legal death penalty execution.
Arguably, understanding ethics and the application of ethics varies in every

probably the Super Bowl as well. All of these teams and the Super Bowl itself are part of the NFL or
National Football League, which if you haven t heard of before is a well run organization that
specializes in running a national league for American Football inside the United States. My thesis ·
that American Football is the better sport financially as its organized significantly better an ugly and
therefore its more successful thanks to financial funding and backup. American Football is
undoubtedly the most watched sport in the US racking up over 16.5 million views on average in the
2016 NFL season. This was a substantial drop from 2015s 17.9 million views but still enough to rank

Criticisms Of The Black Power Movement
Criticisms of the Black Power Movement
Criticisms of the Movement The Black Power movement received criticism from civil rights activists
and organizations, such as Bayard Rustin and the National Association for the Advancement of
Colored People (NAACP). Bayard Rustin who was a civil rights and African American activist for
nonviolence spoke out against the Black Power movement. Bayard Rustin understood what the
movement was trying to achieve but ultimately criticized the movement for being divisive of the
American people. Rustin believed that the movement had revealed two Americas, one black, and one
white.
Since the term black power did not have a concise definition some whites interpreted the term as an
expression of a new racism. 47 On the other hand, blacks defined it as a signal to whites that blacks
would no longer tolerate their violent treatment. Due to the tension the movement created Rustin
deemed the Black Power movement as a threat to the civil rights movement. Rustin said that the Black
Power movement diverts the (civil rights) movement from a meaningful debate over strategy and
tactics, it isolates the Negro community, and it encourages the growth of anti Negro forces. 48 This
tension would hinder the civil rights movement from moving forward.
Bayard Rustin understood the frustration of black people and how black power emerged, though he
said black power was not the answer. Black power was not the answer because it would ultimately

Bipolar Disorder And Manic Depressive Disorder
Bipolar disorder, previously manic depressive disorder, is a disorder that has a myriad common
misconceptions surrounding it within the general public. Unless one has taken the time to research
what Bipolar Disorder is/entails or is suffering from the disorder itself, knowledge about the disorder
typically comes from hearsay. Before reading Kay Redfield Jamison s novel, most of what I knew or
had learned about Bipolar Disorder was from other individuals. I knew it was some form of disorder
but the details eluded me. Many times you will hear teenagers say things like Oh, she is so bipolar
when a friend shifts from happy one minute to mad the next or The weather is so bipolar when it shifts
from sunny to raining rapidly. From this, I assumed that Bipolar Disorder had something to do with a
rapid shift in moods. However, other than looking up on one occasion whether Bipolar Disorder and
Manic Depressive Disorder are the same thing, I did not pay much more attention to what Bipolar
Disorder was or what those suffering from the disorder dealt with on a daily basis. It was not until I
came to college where we briefly covered the disorder in classes, like intro, and read Jamison s
memoir for another course that I really began to understand what Bipolar Disorder is and how it
affects those who suffer from it. After having read Jamison s memoir, the life of those suffering with
Bipolar Disorder became a little easier to imagine. It most certainly is not an easy

The study was conducted to show how altering certain words can influence to the accuracy of
eyewitness testimony. The study consisted of two experiments. The first was done on 45 participants
who were split into groups of varying sizes and they were shown seven films. In the first study, the
independent variable was the verb used in the critical question. These were either, hit , bumped ,
smashed , contacted and collided . And the dependent variable was the speed estimation the participant
gave. Loftus and Palmer found that the verb smashed lead to a higher estimated speed when compared
to contacted . Their findings were significant at p 00.5 level. The second experiment was conducted to

They were shown 7 clips of car crashes, each group had them shown in a varying order. The clips
lasted between 5 to 30 seconds. Following the viewing they each were given a questionnaire which
asked them to begin with giving a recount of what they had just seen and then they were asked the
critical question relating to the speed of the cars which was About how fast were the cars going when
they hit each other? . 9 participants were asked the question with hit and then equal numbers were
asked the same question but replacing hit with contacted , smashed , collided and bumped . The results
show that language influences memory by replacing what the participants saw with secondary
information that is integrated into their initial memory of the event. Therefore, the verbs alter the
participant s perception of the speed of the cars. Those who were asked the critical question with the
word smashed had significantly higher speed estimations compared to those who had any of the other
verbs. These results came about because if a participant is uncertain about the speed at which a car is
traveling, for example, 30 or 40mph and they are presented with the word smashed it biases their
response towards the higher value. The altered verb may make the scene seem more or less severe
than it actually was. A weakness of this study is that it was a laboratory experiment meaning although

Case Study On Exxon
Is Exxon s top spot in danger?
Ben Van Beurden, Chief Executive Officer of Royal Dutch Shell has laid out an ambitious plan to
overtake Exxon Mobil, the number one gas company in the world. Prior to 1990s, Shell was the leader
in total shareholder returns, however, it was overtaken by its rivals using the acquisition route. Mr.
Beurden believes that Shell will be able to regain its lost glory post the acquisition of the BG group.
I am determined to get us to that number one place, Mr. Beurden said after outlining the company s
long term strategy in London. I want to create a world class investment case for Shell and our
shareholders, reports Bloomberg.

The reason for higher valuation is the confidence that Exxon is in a better position to tide over the
current downturn in oil prices and it is a better managed company than Shell.
Shell s gross and operating margins, return on equity, assets to cash flow are way below that of Exxon.
Though Shell has narrowed the gap for total shareholder returns, Exxon still has an upper hand.
After the purchase of BG, the total debt of Shell has increased to $81 billion, whereas Exxon with $43
billion of debt has options left on the table.
To impress the investor community, Shell plans to increase its free cash flow per share, improve its
returns and run the company conservatively. In order to do so, Shell has capped annual investments at
$30 billion until 2020 and it has left options open to reduce spending below its lower target range of
$25 billion in case crude price hovers close to the current levels of $50 per barrel or drops below it.

A jet engine follows Newton s Third law and as such the rushing hot gases creates a force in the
opposite and parallel direction.
Propulsion systems are not jet engine exclusive. Propulsion system are the constant Conversion any of
various forms of energy into mechanical force and motion to produce thrust. Thus it can be viewed as
an energy transformer.
This transformation is however not perfect and brings into account how efficient the system is. The
efficiency is the ratio between the input and intended output of the system. This unfortunately is never
100% and is a critical factor that plays into propulsion systems and fuel options.
DRAG
Drag is the aeronautical term for the air resistance encounter by an object in motion. Drag acts in the
inverse direction to the objects movement through the air as it constrains its movement and acts
parallel to the relative wind stream.
Drag can be managed in aircraft and countered by increasing its aerodynamic properties. These
include incorporating streamlined shapes, having cleaned surfaces, implementing flush fitting bolts
and also several other configuration characteristics.
The secondary responsibility of an aircraft s engine is to handle and conquer the drag. However, the
more thrust produced the more air resistance encountered and consequently produces increased drag
on the aircraft.

Title: Time for Laundry? How to Maintain a Healthy Septic System
Whether you ve chosen a septic system because it s an environmentally friendly option for your home

of your household wastewater. Properly maintained systems can last for 25 to 30 years, and help to
keep groundwater clean and free of pollution, bacteria and viruses, as well as the nitrates and
phosphates that can cause algae bloom in bodies of water.
Many homeowners, though, want to know the best way to take care of their septic system, and one of

Certain cleaning agents, like bleach, soaps that aren t biodegradable, and antibacterial soaps, can
weaken and even kill the bacteria that maintains septic system health. Additionally, too much
detergent released into the tank can be the cause of clogged soil pores, preventing drainage and
inciting backups. Typically, liquid detergents are the best option when it comes to healthy septic
systems.
Certain detergents are labeled to be safe for septic tanks, and they are almost liquid, because they have
fewer ingredients that can be harmful for septic tanks. Some dry detergents use clay as a filler, which
will cause clogs. Others may include sodium as a filler, which can also cause problems.
Combining good laundry habits with the five most important tips that can protect your tank will help
your septic system operate at its best, giving you and your family peace of mind and a protected
investment that will keep the system running for 20 to 30 years. If you have a question about your

Walmart and the Elements of Business
Walmart and the Elements of Its Business
Molly Taylor
American Intercontinental University
Walmart and the Elements of Its Business The history of Walmart is quite interesting and goes all the
way back to the 1960 s. Walmart was started by a man named Sam Walton and his brother. Mr. Walton
had a degree in economics and used this degree to secure a management trainee position at JC Penny
s. With his degree and experience he gained working at JC Penny s he, along with his brother, opened
a Ben Franklin store. By the late 50 s they owned 9 Ben Franklin franchises.
Mr. Walton and his brother had a vision to bring large retail stores with low, low prices to small towns.
They took this idea to Ben Franklin franchise owners ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has been said in the recent past that Walmart says they treat their employees well but there have
been cases recently where this was found not to be true unfortunately.
Treating employees unfairly could have a negative economic impact on the community because if
workers aren t treated fairly then no one wants to work for the company that s not treating their
employees well. Which then has a domino effect because chances are, if that s the case, then people
will begin to bash Walmart driving consumers away to possibly purchase from other retailers. This
would not be a positive economic environment at all and the chances of the business failing would be
pretty good.
To best maintain a thriving legal, social and economical environment Walmart needs to have in place a
good management structure and for the most part I think they do. If they didn t they would not have
risen to be one of the largest retailers in the world over the past almost 50 years. They have a company
wide management structure that all stores abide by. This structure includes planning and promotions,
goal setting amongst employees, organizing how operations flow on a day to day basis, directing its
employees and controlling finances. In order to operate Walmart has to provide services to consumers
and make a profit off providing these services. To do that Walmart must constantly stay on top of how
the stores are run on a daily basis. To operate a business and be

As the roaring twenties came to a screeching halt, many looked to Hoover the current president at the

Unfortunately he was horribly wrong, but this paved the way for Roosevelt s New Deal policies to

and many of the agencies created through the New Deal still exist today, a testament to the positive

Shamanism Research Paper
Shamanism
To truly understand the meaning of shamanism one must uncover the original definition. The word
shaman comes from the language of the Evenk, a small Tungus speaking group of hunters and
reindeer herders from Siberia. It was first used only to designate a religious specialist from this region.
By the beginning of the 20th century it was already being applied to a variety of North America and
South American practices from the present and the past. Today people have gone as far as defining the
word shaman as any human that acknowledges that he/she has had contact with spiritual entities. Well
at least the term still refers to human beings.

The fact is that well philosophers can speculate, even by the vaguest definition of shamanism they can
not prove that these individuals were taking part in these trance like states without written or physical
proof.
Due to the theory of shamanism being introduced into the Mesoamerican culture because of the
writings of Eliade and Furst, it seems only fair to look carefully at the relevance to their
interpretations. Eliade had originally acknowledged the oddity concerning the concept of shamanism
and, in turn, took it into his own hands to create a version this concept himself. (Klein, pg. 388) I can
not reasonable enter into the idea of this model that he has created. He clearly explains the existence
of shamanism in Siberia and inner Asia, in which there has been, documented proof. The idea that
because this is happening there does not prove that it was happening over 2000 years ago across the
world. He fails to connect the two areas, in time and place, feasible. It is extremely interesting that
only Eliade s point of view is found in the Encyclopedia of Religion. (Eliade 201 208)
Despite Furst s attempt to redefine shamanism in terms of specific American religious beliefs and
practices, the new criteria he provided have proved to be as unreliable as Eliade s. It repeatedly insists
that the concepts of the universe divided horizontally into an upper world, a terrestrial middle world,
and an underworld in the sense that

(Reh, 2011) Cost/benefit analysis is a possible suggestion because the Consultation and Education
Department director can argue that the benefit of the program far outweighs the cost of the program.
The Consultation and Education department draw clients in and a large majority of these clients go on
to participate in the larger, more funding drawing, programs. So if the department is done away with,
client numbers may decrease and other programs may suffer. Outcomes evaluation is often described
first by looking at its basic components. Outcomes evaluation looks at programs as systems that have
inputs, activities/processes, outputs and outcomes this system s view is useful in examining any
program! * Inputs
These are materials and resources that the program uses in its activities, or processes, to serve clients,
equipment, staff, volunteers, facilities, money, etc. These are often easy to identify and many of the
inputs seem common to many organizations and programs. * Activities
These are the activities, or processes, that the program undertakes with/to the client in order to meet
the clients needs, for example, teaching, counseling, sheltering, feeding, clothing, etc. Note that when
identifying the activities in a program, the focus is still pretty much on the organization or program
itself, and still is not so much on actual changes

Seeing England For the First Time
On Seeing England for the First Time
The effect of imperialism on small colonies is sometimes intrusive and constrained. Jamaica Kincaid
devotes her essay, Seeing England for the First Time, to her profound mysticism she has towards
England as she grows up on the island of Antigua before it becomes an independent country. With
descriptive language, Kincaid reveals her frustration for England within the classroom and at her
home through use of imagery and satire. The earliest memories of England Kincaid has is when she
was in school as a child. Kincaid opens her essay with sarcasm by saying that England looks [gentle,
beautiful, delicate, like] a very special jewel; [laying] on a bed of sky blue the backdrop of the map its

However, being ruled by England, the educational curriculum teaches that England is a place where
people got a sense of what s meaningful [and] meaningless , proving that England people are
brainwashed to falsely think that a country like England is also a place of virtue. Kincaid s frustration
roots from seeing people be infatuated with England when in reality, England is invasive,
disrespectful, and mendacious. Although Kincaid sees England for the first time in the classroom,
English culture is all around her, even in her home. Each morning before she leaves for school,
Kincaid describes eating a breakfast of half a grapefruit, a bowl of oat porridge, bread and butter and a
slice of cheese, and a cup of cocoa . Even with the food she eats, Kincaid is showing how her life is
closely intertwined with the English lifestyle. The lengthy description of her typical morning meal
mocks the lavish English lifestyle and proves that her life is heavily influenced by English customs.
She describes each box or article of clothing to have Made in England labeled on it, which plays as an
ironic, subtle reminder that while Kincaid and her family live in a colony owned by England, they do

Some say that it was Zeus who impregnated her not Hades. There have been a couple of stories of
people coming to hades asking for help. One of the stories is about a guy named Orpheus. He was said
to be a superhuman with musical skills. Orpheus had a wife named Eurydice. They were said to be in
love, well not for long. One day Eurydice was killed. She was running away from Aristaeus. When she
was running away she had stepped on a poisonous snake. She had died. Orpheus was heartbroken, so
he went to Hades to ask him something. He asked Hades if he would bring back his wife Eurydice.

Essay on It s Time to Abolish Religion
Can a society exist emancipated from religion? Will its foundations decay due to the absence of it, or
will it flourish and achieve a new stratum of knowledge which will result in a peaceful co existence?
The word religion has its roots in the Latin word religare which means to bind together, or to connect;
on the contrary I argue religion has been an apparatus of division, rather than achieving collectivism,
thus doing much more harm than good. History represents the bloody warfare instigated and
propagated in the name of religion; it is the antithesis of peace and unity. Religion has imposed
limitations upon development of knowledge; therefore hampering the growth of human faculties, and
narrowing the realm of free thinking men. Time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Individuals need to learn to recognize one another as members of only one family, and stop applying
the filters of culture, or religion to divide one another.
Karl Marx quoted religion is the opiate of masses. He believed the bourgeoisie class used religion as a
means to control and oppress the proletariat class; however, the governing system may have evolved
in the past years, the theory is still applicable to majority of societies today. Individuals who occupy
powerful positions within society often resort to using religion as means to subjugate and oppress the
people belonging to minority groups; the most transparent example is the birth of caste system within
the religious dogmas of Hinduism which is demonizing the Indian society still today. Implementation
of religion in social and political institutions is a method powerful people use to legitimize their
oppression, which creates further havoc upon the society; because it is no longer administered by a
neutral governing body, consequently it is serving the interests of few powerful individuals,
meanwhile ignoring the rest of the populace. The unbalance created by religion continually disturbs all
facets of society, be it political, or social sphere; the result is ongoing tension among the inhabitants
eventually leading to revolutionary mindset. The separation of religion and state is an integral element
in securing a society in which all are treated equally under the law,

Even though he dropped out of school Picasso used his own perspective of reality to paint. After
dropping out of school Picasso moved to Paris with Carles Casagemas, Carles was Picasso s
roommate and a close and dear friend. Picasso s work was not popular, and he was unable to make an
earnings from his paintings in Paris and moved back to Barcelona. Picasso s style of painting was
about to change due to the death of his friend. While back in Barcelona, Picasso found out that Carles
Casagemas committed suicide. Picasso was very upset and troubled by the death of his friend. In
response to the death of his friend, Pablo painted The Death of Casagemas, a portrait of his friend s
head with a bullet wound. The painting has a blue tint to it. The Death of Casagemas, is considered the

The General Search Engine Architecture
Different search engines such as Google are complex, sophisticated, distributed systems. Below we
reproduce the general search engine architecture discussed in Searching the Web , Arvind Arasu,
Junghoo Cho, Hector Garcia Molina, Andreas Paepcke, Sriram Raghavan (Stanford University). ACM
Transactions on Internet Technology (TOIT), Volume 1, Issue 1 (August 2001).
The main components include, parallel crawlers/ and crawler control (when and where to crawl), page
repository, indexer, analysis, collection of data structures (index tables, structure, utility), and query
engine and ranking module. Such a general architecture would take a significant amount of time to
code. In this course, we implement stripped down versions of the main ... Show more content on

Besides that, there are also other difficulties as well. There might be too many relevant pages for a
simple query. Also, it is difficult to compare two search engines, because of their continuous
improvement. There are three ranking algorithm that are proposed by Yuwono and Lee. They are
Boolean spread, vector spread, and most cited. The first two are the normal ranking algorithms of the
Boolean and vector model extended to include pages pointed to by a page in the answer or pages that
point to a page in the answer. The third, most cited, is based only on the terms included in pages
having a link to pages in the answer.(Yuwono, 1996)
There are also other approaches as well. WebQuery allows visual browsing of the
Web pages. Their ranking algorithm is based on how connected each Web page is. The
Page Rank algorithm uses the equation defined below here a is the page that we want to rank PR(a) is
page rank of page a; q is the probability of the page being accessed; p1 to pn is the pages that point to
page a. C(a) is the number of out going link in page a. Google search engine uses the Page Rank
algorithm as well. It simulates users using the search engine and applies the equation to rank the Web
pages. It uses a citation graph. The graph contains 518 million links. It allows rapid calculation. 26
million Web pages can be computed in a few hours. The page has high ranking when many other
pages point to it or if some other high ranking pages point to it. (Brin, 1998)

Examples Of Racism In This Is England
The film This is England is a movie about twelve year old Shaun growing up and trying to fit in with
the local skinheads. The film takes place during 1983 in a small town in England. The eighties in
England was a time under Thatcher s government, and society was deeply affected by how Thatcher
had governed the country. The Thatcher years had caused a lot of problems for the working class like
unemployment, poverty, racism, and people were angered by the unnecessary Falkland war. All of
these factors that Thatcher s government induced is well depicted in the movie, but is the film s
portrayal of life under Thatcher s government an accurate portrayal?
High unemployment, poverty and immigration were all factors that lead to a rise in racism and hate
crimes in England in the eighties. Many white working class youth were angry and resentful due to the
lack of jobs and the bad conditions they suffered and this often turned into racial hatred. One of the
main characters, Combo, is in fact young and part of the working class, and the movie gives a great
insight into how society at that time caused a lot of hate towards immigrant. Combos racism is caused
by him believing that all the immigrants can just walk into the England, get a flat for their family and
then take away the jobs from ethnic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands in 1982 and Thatcher used that opportunity to play the part of

and in real life many people like Shaun s father lost their life or a loved one in this war. There is a lot
of talk about the war in the film, Combo talks about it being a total waste of time and lives. The
working class discontent only grew stronger towards Thatcher due to the Falkland

Warren Buffett is a legendary investor who now sits at the CEO position as well as Chairman and
President of the multibillion dollar corporation known as Berkshire Hathaway. For convenience I will
refer to Berkshire Hathaway as BH. BH is a conglomerate holding company which means that they
specialize in investing across several different industries. Yahoo! Finance defines BH to be in the
financial sector and their primary industry as Property and Casualty Insurance. Some of the other
companies that BH owns and manages are GEICO Insurance, Helzberg Diamonds, Benjamin Moore
Co., and Dairy Queen. BH also owns large portions of stock in Heinz and Mars Incorporated. Due to
the present day s stock market volatility there would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When customers pay a premium on their insurance, BH then takes that premium paid and uses it to
buy stakes in other companies. Which is how Berkshire Hathaway has been able to buy stakes in so
many companies and essentially as well as metaphorically spin their straw into gold. For the more
technical stock picker, it is a good thing to know that BH has had a steady appreciation over the years
with the exception of 2008; being the largest decline known for BH. The good news is that unlike a lot
of companies that suffered from the 2008 crisis BH came out of it head strong and has surpassed the
previous price at which the decline began. These stocks are the type that long term investors like. This
is because they can survive crises such as the one six years ago. Moreover the long term investor is
good for a company because usually these investors are the ones attending board meetings and placing
votes that best further the company s success. In contrast there is the short term investor who, most of
the time, only cares about a profit and lacks the interest in the long term life of the company. This is
not the case for BH, however. If an investor wants secure long term gains than BH is certainly the best
choice. If someone begs to differ just take a look at some of the key statistics. Looking at the statistics
of a company is what nearly every professional investor does. You

Research Methods Are Gaining Popularity Outside The...
Observational Research Project 1
Introduction
There are different kinds of research methods used the qualitative and quantitative research methods.
Qualitative research methods are gaining popularity outside the traditional academic social sciences.
On the other hand when we talk about quantitative research method, so there was a time when they
were dominated and were influencing these fields. My observational research has given me a valuable
insight into the perspective of studying the marketing methodologies, especially about the
pharmaceutical field.
The knowledge gathered from this visit to a pharmacy, provided some critical and comprehensive
solutions to public health and to maintain a proper check and balance in order to get higher results. By
implementing proper policies we can enhance the quality of life, we can develop our countries, and
our social life will be much easier if we gave the adequate attention the field of medicine needs.
The pharmacy which I visited is known as Medico Pharmacy . The visit was a very good one. I
intended to find out the maximum information which I could get from there and I was very much
successful to some extent. I did a systemic and ethical qualitative research on their management and
routine of marketing.
About This Visit

A study carried out by the SCK CEN was done to evaluate how and how quickly the radioactive
materials could be transported to safe areas as the real danger of the tailings falling into the river are
very real. All it takes is a heavy rain fall to push the materials into the water. The people of the area are
ingesting locally grown foods and this is causing more than 90% of damage. This means there should
be close monitoring and restrictions on food crops to ensure safety. Also the dosages due to inhaling
radon in the air can be reduced by increasing ventilation in the houses and some action should be
taken to remove peoples who the ventilation cannot help. (Vandenhove et al., 2003)
Overall the DWDS does not provide good quality drinking water, and many of the wells used for
drinking water and irrigation are contaminated from the tailings seeping into the surface waters and
ground waters. The presences of arsenic in the water is well above the WHO acceptable levels and this
is very dangerous as arsenic is extremely toxic to humans and animals. Also the levels of chlorine and
selenium in some drinking wells, four in the area one located near a school and used by a large
number of children for drinking purposes, are well above the guidelines deemed acceptable for quality
of water intended for human consumption by the European Union Directive. The concentrations of

Fiscal Policy And Fiscal Policies
Fiscal Policy
Generally fiscal policy is the set of strategies that government implements or plans to use with certain
activities such as the collection of revenues and taxes and expenditure that can influence the overall
economic condition of the nation. A well written or planned fiscal policy can lead the nation to the
steady path of the strong economy, increase employment and also maintains healthy inflation. Every
country needs fiscal policy as fiscal policy plays a vital role on monitoring the pattern of the flow of
nation s expenditure to the economy and also the nation s revenue generated from the economy. It also
helps to stimulate the economic growth during the period of economic recession. The main aim of the
fiscal policy is to maintain a steady fiscal growth with respect to both higher and lower economic
cycle. There is an intimate relationship between fiscal and monetary policy though these both entities
are conducted for different purposes. These are basically not the alternative but the complement to
each other. Fiscal policy always supports monetary policy during the time of recession such as Global
Financial Crisis of 2008.Many countries enacted lots of stimulus plans related to fiscal policy in order
to cope with the Global Financial Crisis of 2008. Among those India also adopted many different new
techniques of fiscal policy in order to survive during the Global Financial Crisis of 2008.

Analysis Of Theresa Hak Kyung Cha
Before her untimely death at the age of 31, Theresa Hak Kyung Cha was a promising innovator of
experimental film, slide projections, sculpture, audio recordings, performance art, and poetry. Her
work challenges assumptions about history, narrative, language, and in particular conceptions of
immigrants; through powerful and often dislocating ideological and grammatical in derogations of
cultural, geographic, and social positions, she recuperates an alternative sense of self and identity in a
postcolonial, feminist, racially marked world. Her experiments with the sense of displacement and
fragmentation mark an important stage in postmodernist, multicultural, and feminist writing. By
addressing, resisting, and reconstructing an alternative idea

  • 3. Reflection Paper On Strategic Management This reflection paper will cover the lessons that I have learned from the cases and readings. Most importantly it will expand on classroom discussions with Professor Dew and my peers; it is here where I believe that I found the most valuable education. I will conclude with how this course has influenced my way of thinking and how I will plan to apply these acquired Strategic Management lessons in my future assignments and military billets. Thru the course I have learned that Strategic Management builds on many processes and that various companies and organizations with diverse backgrounds can teach us valuable lessons. To be on the lookout for what can be considered a beneficial development in an organization or perhaps what can be a bad plan plausibly implemented at the wrong time. As military members we are educated to think very linearly about strategy. For many years we have been trained to have a strategic thought process based on the use of a methodology that espouses three major steps: Ends (Objectives), Ways (Strategic Concepts), and Means (Resources). (Barber 1997) However I have learned that goals and objectives of an organization are in continuous change and they suffer from a lack of adaptation, our problems evolve and we fail to perceive the subtle and not so subtle changes as well as not adjusting accordingly to the drift in direction (inertia). That is why I think that a course such as this one is very valuable and offers many trends that are current ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Figurative Language In The Jungle By Richard Connell Richard Connell uses figurative language in the story to add richness and spark by using metaphors and similes. Part of the American Culture is slang which is metaphors and similes. It s just how we talk and communicate. Even in a story with a scary, mysterious type of mood we can still have slang. I will explain some of the metaphors and similes throughout the story and how they add the richness the story s needs. When Richard Connell quotes trying to peer through the dank tropical night that was palpable as it pressed its thick warm blackness in upon the yacht. , he uses the key phrases such as pressed its thick warm blackness in upon the yacht . This key phrase is showing a detailed way to say that it was getting dark and into the night. But instead of being unimaginative and dull, Connell describes the night so it s easy to imagine using a simile that we can relate to. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Paul s Missionary Journeys and Epistle Correlates Paul s Missionary Journeys and Epistle Correlates The missionary journeys of Paul cover a major portion of the Book of the Acts of the Apostles (commonly shortened to Acts). Acts demonstrates, at least in part, how the journeys relate to the writing of the Epistles or letters to various congregations that needed encouragement or some other word from Paul, and when they were written. The three journeys happened in close relation to one another and were meant to spread the Gospel message to the unsaved and encourage those who had come to believe on the Son of Man. The letters were written as an inspiration from the Father to further the understanding of believers regarding the perfect life of a Christian. This papers describes in short form the three missionary journeys of Paul and how they relate, chronologically, to Paul s writing of the epistles. Missionary Journeys The first element of the journeys was who traveled with Paul. He went on the first with Barnabas and Mark. Barnabas was regarded as a coworker and Mark as an apprentice or helper according to Niswonger (1992, 209). The second journey was much longer, as concerns distance, but did not take as much time and was accomplished with Silas. The third journey is a solo one apparently (McGee, 1998). The approximate dates of the three journeys are First from 45 AD to 47 AD, Second from 51 AD to 53 AD and Third from 54 AD to 58 AD (McGee, 1998). Of course all of these dates are somewhat speculative, but they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Sexism In Society Sexism, racism, and violence have been a part of the world since the beginning of time. Everyday, it is clear that issues such as these continue to play a role in the lives of many people. Our society has moved forward in the direction towards ending racism, sexism, and violence, but these changes still do not meet the standard of decency. Despite the modern movement for women s rights being implemented into today s society, as well as efforts to eliminate racism and violent language, humanity needs to become more progressive in order to create a truly equal society. Violence in language gives the general public the image that violence is tolerable, while also promoting brutality. Language guidelines from the North York Women Teacher s Association alter violent phrases such as, get away with murder into its alternative, avoid consequences. Violence has made its way into modern language where the majority of people do not necessarily try to stop it. According to Michiko Kakutani, a Pulitzer Prize winning literary critic, the prohibition of certain words, phrases, and ideas is advanced in the cause of building a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sexism in modern life is men receiving a higher salary than women for just being men. The idea that women cannot be strong while being independent is absurd. Society uses harsh language towards women as if the negativity in the words have a neutral tone and meaning, when in fact they represent the very reason why women are still viewed as weaker and dependent upon men. Sexism will not cease to exist unless the degrading of women stops. According to Kakutani s The Word Police, the 1991 edition of the Random House Webster s Dictionary includes linguistic mutations to avoid sexism, such as the change from women to womyn, and waiter or waitress to waitron. This shows how some communities have accepted that both genders should be equally treated and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. American History Chapter 1 Summary James W. Loewen dedicated his book to all American history teachers who teach against their textbooks, but it s a read for Students who have taken a course in American History. Intended to expose the lies teachers and textbooks have taught students about American History, Loewen talks about what most students do know versus what is the real truth. It lets students know how textbooks leaves out info, which in turn downplays many events in history. This is why students think history is boring, it is filled with facts instead of the truth, which would keep students interested and emotionally invested. Usually textbooks only show images of planes bombing Vietnam instead of the real impact and damage that was done. This is what keeps me and my competitive cheer teams energy up in our two minute and thirty second routine that consists of stunting, tumbling, standing tumbling, and a dance which is at the end of the routine. In 2013, competitive cheerleading is not considered an official sport. There s been a lot of push for cheerleading recognition. Cheerleading should be considered a sport because in competitive cheer you have to really push yourself physically and mentally. Especially, when you re at practice or competing with your team. What is a sport? According to Dictionary.com a sport is an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature. I ask myself all the time if gymnastics is considered a sport then why isn t competitive cheerleading considered a sport. In gymnastics you are on a team but you compete individually. Gymnasts do each event by themselves while entertaining others. In competitive cheerleading you re on a team and you also compete with your team while entertaining others. About 98% of all female cheerleaders were former gymnasts. I believe that when this argument comes up people immediately think of school cheer, just yelling words or cheers. There are numerous circumstances where ethics of certain individuals can be and are called into question. While perusing the internet, and other available resources for specific examples, an article that sparked interest was written in regards to medical professionals participating in executions. This raised a number of different questions oriented toward ethics. Is the death penalty morally, or ethically acceptable? Is it already spelled out in the Eighth Amendment? According to a different article from the New England Journal of Medicine The Supreme Court did not and cannot solve this medical ethics problem for America s physicians. State legislatures continue to have the authority under the Constitution to determine whether or not to require executions by lethal injection, and physicians continue to have the legal freedom to determine whether placing their medical skills at the service of the state to execute condemned prisoners is consistent with medical ethics. In this regard, physicians could again come to the rescue of the law by helping corrections officials make executions by lethal injection less risky, less cruel, and more medicalized, routinized, and sanitized (Annas, 2008, p 1517). In all, the debate still remains on whether or not it is ethical for a medical professional to participate in a legal death penalty execution. • 11. Criticisms Of The Black Power Movement Criticisms of the Black Power Movement Criticisms of the Movement The Black Power movement received criticism from civil rights activists and organizations, such as Bayard Rustin and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Bayard Rustin who was a civil rights and African American activist for nonviolence spoke out against the Black Power movement. Bayard Rustin understood what the movement was trying to achieve but ultimately criticized the movement for being divisive of the American people. Rustin believed that the movement had revealed two Americas, one black, and one white. Since the term black power did not have a concise definition some whites interpreted the term as an expression of a new racism. 47 On the other hand, blacks defined it as a signal to whites that blacks would no longer tolerate their violent treatment. Due to the tension the movement created Rustin deemed the Black Power movement as a threat to the civil rights movement. Rustin said that the Black Power movement diverts the (civil rights) movement from a meaningful debate over strategy and tactics, it isolates the Negro community, and it encourages the growth of anti Negro forces. 48 This tension would hinder the civil rights movement from moving forward. Bayard Rustin understood the frustration of black people and how black power emerged, though he said black power was not the answer. • 12. Bipolar Disorder And Manic Depressive Disorder Bipolar disorder, previously manic depressive disorder, is a disorder that has a myriad common misconceptions surrounding it within the general public. Unless one has taken the time to research what Bipolar Disorder is/entails or is suffering from the disorder itself, knowledge about the disorder typically comes from hearsay. Before reading Kay Redfield Jamison s novel, most of what I knew or had learned about Bipolar Disorder was from other individuals. I knew it was some form of disorder but the details eluded me. Many times you will hear teenagers say things like Oh, she is so bipolar when a friend shifts from happy one minute to mad the next or The weather is so bipolar when it shifts from sunny to raining rapidly. From this, I assumed that Bipolar Disorder had something to do with a rapid shift in moods. However, other than looking up on one occasion whether Bipolar Disorder and Manic Depressive Disorder are the same thing, I did not pay much more attention to what Bipolar Disorder was or what those suffering from the disorder dealt with on a daily basis. It was not until I came to college where we briefly covered the disorder in classes, like intro, and read Jamison s memoir for another course that I really began to understand what Bipolar Disorder is and how it affects those who suffer from it. After having read Jamison s memoir, the life of those suffering with Bipolar Disorder became a little easier to imagine. It most certainly is not an easy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The results show that language influences memory by replacing what the participants saw with secondary information that is integrated into their initial memory of the event. Therefore, the verbs alter the participant s perception of the speed of the cars. Those who were asked the critical question with the word smashed had significantly higher speed estimations compared to those who had any of the other verbs. These results came about because if a participant is uncertain about the speed at which a car is traveling, for example, 30 or 40mph and they are presented with the word smashed it biases their response towards the higher value. The altered verb may make the scene seem more or less severe than it actually was. A weakness of this study is that it was a laboratory experiment meaning although it had ... Mr. Beurden believes that Shell will be able to regain its lost glory post the acquisition of the BG group. I am determined to get us to that number one place, Mr. Beurden said after outlining the company s long term strategy in London. To impress the investor community, Shell plans to increase its free cash flow per share, improve its returns and run the company conservatively. This transformation is however not perfect and brings into account how efficient the system is. The efficiency is the ratio between the input and intended output of the system. This unfortunately is never 100% and is a critical factor that plays into propulsion systems and fuel options. DRAG Drag is the aeronautical term for the air resistance encounter by an object in motion. Drag acts in the inverse direction to the objects movement through the air as it constrains its movement and acts parallel to the relative wind stream. Drag can be managed in aircraft and countered by increasing its aerodynamic properties. These include incorporating streamlined shapes, having cleaned surfaces, implementing flush fitting bolts and also several other configuration characteristics. The secondary responsibility of an aircraft s engine is to handle and conquer the drag. Walmart was started by a man named Sam Walton and his brother. Mr. Walton had a degree in economics and used this degree to secure a management trainee position at JC Penny s. With his degree and experience he gained working at JC Penny s he, along with his brother, opened a Ben Franklin store. By the late 50 s they owned 9 Ben Franklin franchises. It has been said in the recent past that Walmart says they treat their employees well but there have been cases recently where this was found not to be true unfortunately. Treating employees unfairly could have a negative economic impact on the community because if workers aren t treated fairly then no one wants to work for the company that s not treating their employees well. Which then has a domino effect because chances are, if that s the case, then people will begin to bash Walmart driving consumers away to possibly purchase from other retailers. This would not be a positive economic environment at all and the chances of the business failing would be pretty good. To best maintain a thriving legal, social and economical environment Walmart needs to have in place a good management structure and for the most part I think they do. If they didn t they would not have risen to be one of the largest retailers in the world over the past almost 50 years. They have a company wide management structure that all stores abide by. This structure includes planning and promotions, goal setting amongst employees, organizing how operations flow on a day to day basis, directing its employees and controlling finances. In order to operate Walmart has to provide services to consumers and make a profit off providing these services. To do that Walmart must constantly stay on top of how the stores are run on a daily basis. To operate a business and be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The focus of the article is transgendered Mexican sex workers who travel back and forth between Guadalajara, Mexico and San Francisco, and how they have adapted elements from the marginalized saints such as Santisima Muerte, St. Jude, and the Virgin of Guadalupe from the Catholic faith for protection from the homophobia, discrimination, and danger they faced in their daily lives. 2. The author used interviews from 29 transgendered sex workers from Guadalajara over two years in both Mexico and San Francisco, as well as personal observation as methods of collecting data. 3. The concept of sexual migration is migration fully or partially fueled by the sexuality of those migrating. Some may desire to continue a current relationship with a foreign national, or it may be just to exploring new sexual desires, such as gender transformation. Others may be migrating to avoid persecution, but I believe that the reason the people in the study were migrating is because they were hoping for an environment that gives them more equality in society. 4. Before, I may not have fully understood the gravity of the discrimination transgendered people face within their own society, causing them to feel marginalized within their own group. • 21. Shamanism Research Paper Shamanism To truly understand the meaning of shamanism one must uncover the original definition. The word shaman comes from the language of the Evenk, a small Tungus speaking group of hunters and reindeer herders from Siberia. It was first used only to designate a religious specialist from this region. By the beginning of the 20th century it was already being applied to a variety of North America and South American practices from the present and the past. Today people have gone as far as defining the word shaman as any human that acknowledges that he/she has had contact with spiritual entities. Well at least the term still refers to human beings. The fact is that well philosophers can speculate, even by the vaguest definition of shamanism they can not prove that these individuals were taking part in these trance like states without written or physical proof. Due to the theory of shamanism being introduced into the Mesoamerican culture because of the writings of Eliade and Furst, it seems only fair to look carefully at the relevance to their interpretations. Eliade had originally acknowledged the oddity concerning the concept of shamanism and, in turn, took it into his own hands to create a version this concept himself. (Klein, pg. 388) I can not reasonable enter into the idea of this model that he has created. He clearly explains the existence of shamanism in Siberia and inner Asia, in which there has been, documented proof. The idea that because this is happening there does not prove that it was happening over 2000 years ago across the world. He fails to connect the two areas, in time and place, feasible. It is extremely interesting that only Eliade s point of view is found in the Encyclopedia of Religion. (Eliade 201 208) Despite Furst s attempt to redefine shamanism in terms of specific American religious beliefs and practices, the new criteria he provided have proved to be as unreliable as Eliade s. The Consultation and Education department draw clients in and a large majority of these clients go on to participate in the larger, more funding drawing, programs. So if the department is done away with, client numbers may decrease and other programs may suffer. Outcomes evaluation is often described first by looking at its basic components. Will its foundations decay due to the absence of it, or will it flourish and achieve a new stratum of knowledge which will result in a peaceful co existence? The word religion has its roots in the Latin word religare which means to bind together, or to connect; on the contrary I argue religion has been an apparatus of division, rather than achieving collectivism, thus doing much more harm than good. Karl Marx quoted religion is the opiate of masses. He believed the bourgeoisie class used religion as a means to control and oppress the proletariat class; however, the governing system may have evolved in the past years, the theory is still applicable to majority of societies today. Individuals who occupy powerful positions within society often resort to using religion as means to subjugate and oppress the people belonging to minority groups; the most transparent example is the birth of caste system within the religious dogmas of Hinduism which is demonizing the Indian society still today. Implementation of religion in social and political institutions is a method powerful people use to legitimize their oppression, which creates further havoc upon the society; because it is no longer administered by a neutral governing body, consequently it is serving the interests of few powerful individuals, meanwhile ignoring the rest of the populace.
