This summer I worked at Broad Street Ministries. It s a church that s a major staple in their
community and the homeless. They provide drop in shelter services such as mailing, meals at different
times through the week, social services, after school programing, summer camp, enrichment classes
and much more. Their goal is to build a community that fosters a safe, inclusive, and welcoming
environment that provide upscale meals to those less fortunate. My overall opinion of the operation is
that it has great values, provide quality services, and strives for excellence in all aid provided.
While interning for the past 3 months I had the opportunity to participate in preparing fresh, quality
nutritious meals for their guest. I served in any capacity needed. I washed dishes, swept and mopped
the floor, prepped food and helped cook at time. My main responsibilities were that of the head pastry
chef. I planned and prepared dessert options for 300 guests based on the ingredients provided. Meals
are planned based on the ingredients picked from the church s garden and donated from local farms

When we hear the phrase, sex offender, we normally feel repulsed. We think of dirty old creepy men. I
for one used to do this, I won t lie. This is because people like to rush to judgment. But my opinions
changed when I came to the realization that it s not just creepy old men who are sex offenders. I want
to talk about them, but not those who are serial rapists or child molesters; they don t deserve to be
talked about. I m talking about people who are convicted, whether it s falsely, or unjustly, and have to
wear a stamp on their forehead for the rest of their lives saying they are a sex offender.
I have an uncle named Michael and he s 29; he ll be 31 in October. In 2006 in Fredericksburg,
Virginia, he was convicted of rape. A young woman lied and said he raped her, and now he will
forever be scarred. In many rape cases, the defense will say that the victim was fantasizing the rape or
is lying, but sometimes she really is lying (Siegel, 1995, p. 304). Virginia has a two tier system for sex

My Experience At A University Level
This course has become a journey for me. It has been one of my first classes at a university level. I

expected of me I can do very well. Secondly, I had the opportunity to learn how to develop a resume
for college and work use. Having a resume that is up to standards and knowing what I need to modify,
in the years to come, is extremely helpful when I am trying to obtain an occupation. Additionally, I
also obtained the knowledge and skills on how to conduct research. Learning how to use the OSU
library website to be able to find academic databases has been extremely helpful. I have learned how
to access the databases and be able to search and obtain what I need. Even though, my other classes
have not required me to conduct research, I may have to conduct research in the years to come.
Knowing how to navigate the website and conduct my research will make it easier. I am very pleased
with myself that I chose to do the extra credit that was offered. I knew that many professors did not
offer the opportunity to gain extra credit. When I heard how many opportunities and points that I
could potentially obtained I knew I had to try. Which, I am glad I did. The extra credit helped
tremendously. Seeing the results reflect on my grade made me realize that I was on the right track.
