Good Food Revolution Analysis
In the book Good Food Revolution, it focuses on the main point of Will Allen s life and how he
has always been around food. I believe the book does a good job with tying in different
connections and references with food and with Will Allen since he has grown up around food
ever since he was little. When the book states The fate of a seed can be predicted by the health of
the soil where it takes the rootI believe that Will Allen is referring and connecting it back to
himself. I believe he relates this to himself because a plant s roots are surrounded by soil and
Will Allen has planted his roots around farming and food. A plant needs soil to survive and Will
Allen needed farming to survive. His whole life and job has revolved around planting. A plant
lives off of what it knows and its surroundings and Will Allen did the same. His parents planted
the seed to get the initial start in farming so he picks up where they left off. Even though he was
not into farming when he was younger he learned to grow and find a passion for farming as he
grew older because it has always been around him. No matter where he went he held onto farming
because that is all he knew. I believe this connection between Will Allen and the quote about the
plant enhances and helps tell the story of how Will Allen got involved in farming.
The connection The Good Food Revolution tries to also make is between ecology and human
development. Ecology is about dealing with relations of organisms to one another

The Importance Of Stereotypes In Literature
Stereotypes run rampant in the literary world today. It is much easier to write a stereotypical
character because of the reader expects them to act or respond a certain way and does not
require an explanation of their motivation. But much like Chimamanda Adichie warns, Show a
people as only one thing over and over again, and that is what they become (Adichie 00:09:25
00:09:37). But this issue is often addressed in reference to the protagonist. The hero is always
white; the hero is always attractive. The hero never disserves to suffer. Single stories do not just
refer to the physical characteristics of the character, though in can and often does. The heroes all
tend to look the same so we associate goodness with that specific physical description, but
motivations can be just as misleading. All the heroes do good things because they lived the same
experiences, so these experiences make someone good. Also society remains so focused on the
single story surrounding the protagonist, it often forgets the other main component of a story, the
antagonist. But by dissecting the possible motivations for the villains, as my adaption does, I hope
to explore the different avenues to villainy and in turn disrupt their single story. Both nature and
nurture can cause a person to do and say the things they do in later life regardless of whether these
things are good or bad. In my adaptation, both Bluebeard and the evil queenhave a corrupted source
of nurture. Bluebeard s dad murders a

Charactersitics of a Museum, Questions and Answers
1.What are, in your opinion, the characteristics of the museum idea?
As I remember from my travelling experience, a museum exists in each city, even the smallest one
and sometimes even in villages. Visiting a museum at least once a year is a compulsory part of any
school programme in my country, Russia. However, what is a museum? What are reasons for its
existing? Who and how chooses display units for exhibitions from the huge variety of items in the
world?
All these questions can be answered if to determine the characteristics of the museum idea.
Museums are public instituitons. Their number has increased and their role has transformed over
the last fifty years. They attract a great number of people, from tourists to citizens, from children to
adults. However, in order to understand which institution can be called a museum, it is necessary to
examine the main objectives of its existence.
The most obvious aim is an educational one since museums serve for society in order to conserve,
research and communicate material evidence of people and their environment. Museums give
people the opportunity to determine their place in the world, understand their cultural identity,
develop self respect and respect for others. Nethertheless, to conduct this educational mission,
careful and meaningful selection of objects is required. After being chosen, all the items need to be
preserved for future generations under proper conserving conditions such as good light, air
conditioning,

Tic Tac And The Tac
Tic Tac is one of the leading producers of breath mints in the country. It is owned by one of the
largest companies, Ferrero Group. Ferrero Group has over 36 companies, 15 factories and almost
20,000 employees working for them around the world. The products from the Tic Tac product line
are sold all over the globe particularly in Europe, Australia, South America, and the USA. Tic Tac
has experienced great appreciation and sales for it product called Tic Tac Chill mints.
The Chill mints have a new and unique design and mints were larger in size themselves than regular
Tic Tac mints. Additionally, Tic Tac uses natural sweetener attracting more diet conscious and
diabetic customers. This new product has a versatile design that has flip top packaging unlike the
other products. At the same time, it keeps the originality of Tic Tac mints while retaining the classic
packaging and product image.
With the adoption of new flavors and packaging, we need to weigh both the benefits and the risks
associated with changing the product s packaging. Lets begin with laying out the risks associated
with the change in packaging. The excerpt tells us that the market for Tic Tac breath mintshas
increased ever since 1969. This indicates that the breath mints are not a new to the world product.
Customers have seen this product before, in fact, breath mints are a convenience product for many
consumers. Breath mints are in there maturity stage in the product life cycle. In this stage new users

What was the significance of the Marshall Plan on Post-war...
What was the significance of the Marshall Plan on Post war Europe? *FOURTH DRAFT*
September 2, 1945, marked the end of the Second World War, a day in which soldiers could
finally leave foreign shores for home, but they would soon discover that home was not how they
left it. For World War II had taken its toll on Europe. On both sides all that had been built before
now lay in ruin and desolation, with economic disaster and extreme poverty now left to govern its
inhabitants. Industrial production was critically low, a staggering amount of people were left either
unemployed or homeless and most major cities, industrial facilities and transportation systems had
been critically destroyed, leaving Europe s infrastructure in a state of disarray.... Show more content

It was the most staggering and portentous experiment in the entire history of our foreign policy,
the young Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., who served on its staff, wrote. It saved us from catastrophe, a
manager at Europe s largest tire factory declared. But under the scrutiny of modern historians
the importance of the Marshall plan is claimed to be overstated, was Europe really in such a dire
state of affairs that it required such a boost just to stay afloat? Or was it simply America s
chance to exert pressure and influence on one of its biggest economic partners whilst also
keeping the threat of communism at bay? That is the question I shall be posing during the course
of this essay. From 1948 (the year that the plan was implemented) to 1952 (the year that Europe
declared it would no longer require Marshall Aid) Europe experienced the fastest rate of growth in
its history. Industrial and agricultural production increased by 30% of the pre war levels and the
standard of living¬¬ improved dramatically. Western Europe was set to commence two decades
of unprecedented growth. This is exactly what the Marshall Plan had aimed to achieve, not wanting
to just send a lump sum of $13 billion and be done with it, America set out to rejuvenate the
European economies in a number of ways. They did this by providing European markets with
experts, new machines and breakthrough technology which helped to push industrial and

France language Essay
Numerous cultures from around the world have circulated many traditions to other cultures.
Although most of the traditions in the earlier eras were not recorded or written, through
communication skills, one is able to access these customs by interviewing someone from that
culture. Language is the key module to a single culture, whether only one culture speaks a particular
language or many cultures across the world share that same language. Sharing a language with
another culture is a way of combining two or more cultures together in which they have a mutual
characteristic of each culture. The French languageis spoken in several countries; some consist of

One of these customs is the use of the twenty four hour time for official diagrams and everyday
scheduling. The way people carry out their days emphasizes the foremost variation from culture to
culture. Annual calendars show a discrepancy in which the day comes preceding the current month.
Another contrast in culture involves food. In the modern day English culture, most families obtain
the groceries from a local supermarket or a confined grocery store. Throughout the French culture,
however, cuisine is purchased through a fresh market or a farmer s market before each meal or
day. This actually allows French citizens to spend less and eat more fresh food. The French culture
is an immense stretch or a diminutive stretch from the traditional way of life in the United States.
Another variation in the French language is the structure of grammar. Terms used in the French
language are very dissimilar compared to that of the English language. For instance, the English
word know is actually represented in two different ways used in the French verbal communication.
ConnaГ®tre is used when trying to say that one physically knows another. Savoir is used when one
actually possesses knowledge about a specific fact or truth. Both words are used to make the
statement that one knows something, but

purchase tickets to attend her concerts abroad as it will be a great financial burden. However, if
they had the financial means, one noted that it would be one of her lifelong dreams to see the

The respondents described BeyoncГ© as being really talented , having a nice voice and a good
dancer. The music videos is appealing, at least from a woman s point of view, said the two female
respondents. The male respondent, however was unenthused by the same music video and instead

theme song for the movie Pink Panther.
The official music video for Irreplaceable starts with BeyoncГ© filing her nails as he picks up his
belongings in a house. During the narrative, she follows him around and outside where her
Jaguar XK is parked. After repossessing things she had bought for him as gifts, he leaves in a

Just as the American schooling system mostly education was available to mostly white cultures.
African school were segregated just as well as the American culture in the past. The apartheid
was a system of racial segregation and discrimination in South Africa between 1948 and 1991.
South Africans were broken down into one of four racial groups based on appearance, known
ancestry, socioeconomic status, and cultural lifestyle: Black, White, Colored and Indian. Places of
residence and educational facilities were determined by racial classification. America had dealt
with these same issues in the mid 1800 s Southern Blacks wanted public schools for their children
but they did not demand racially integrated schools. Legal segregation of schools did not come to
an end until the U.S. Supreme Court made the decision after Brown v. Board of Education in 1954.
Women seem to take be more successful in both countries as well. Word Press states: Although
African Americans have made great progress in the past 30 years in their quest for equality, a
significant gender gap in educational achievement remains. Black females have made much greater
progress in academic attainment when compared to black males. Several statistics illustrate this
fact. For example, in 2006 81% of black females graduated high school compared to 72% of black
males. Whereas here in America the averages of male and female university participants were

Summary And Symbolism In John Collier s Annunciation
Christian artwork is used to represent and symbolise the Gospel and important figures. Not all
individuals could read and write, therefore images were very important in delivering messages and
teachings. One artwork chosen is Annunciation by John Collier created in 2003. This modern
artwork shows Gabriel asking Maryif she would become the mother of Jesus. The other one is the
Holy Night Nativity Scene by Antonio Correggio created in 1530, which focuses on and sets the
scene of Jesus birth.
The Annunciation displays the moment Gabriel was sent by God to tell Mary she would
become pregnant. This is present in the passage God sent angel Gabriel to a virgin and he said to
Mary God has a surprise for you: You will become pregnant and give birth to a son and call his
name Jesus (Luke 1:26 33).
The artwork depicts Mary as a very young and innocent women, which is aided by her modern
school inspired dress.
In the background, there are houses of a 21st century style of living in the suburbs, making the
setting familiar and relatable and allows the audience to feel connected to Mary. Therefore, the
emotions and thoughts of Mary is as she comprehends Gods wishes can be further understood. ...

the events about to unfold. Under Mary s feet, there is a welcoming mat which symbolises that

Community Economic Development Essay
Torres, Maria
CED 301 Midterm
Development and growth go hand in hand in the field of Community Economic Development.
Community economic development is a field of study that actively elicits community involvement
when working with government, and private sectors to build strong communities, industries, and
markets (Riley, 2012).
Economic Development applies to the context of people s sense of right and wrong. The definition
given by Michael Todaro suggests it is an increase in living standards, improvement in self esteem,
needs and freedom from oppression as well as greater choice; whereas economic growth is
necessary, but not a condition of economic development. Community economic development exists
in all developed countries but varies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, growth relates to a gradual increase in one of the components of consumption,
government spending, investment, and net exports. Lastly, economic development is concerned
with structural changes in the economy, whereas, growth is concerned with increase in the economy
s output.
According to Daniel Altman, employment increase creates growth, not the other way around. I
found this statement interesting because after analyzing the statement and thinking of what it
actually means, one can understand that where there is an increase in employment there will be in
increase in production and services. Moreover, structural unemployment occurs because of an
absence of demand for a certain type of workers with a certain type of skillset. This typically
happens when there are mismatches between the skills employers want and the skills that workers
have. Lastly, joblessness causes low consumption which in turn causes low growth.
Community Economic Development is not just about jobs and income. For example, a type of
employment in community economic development involves those in implementing a Community
Economic Development Plan and these employees serve in different functions, as plans vary from
community to community. Such employees will create studies to determine what a certain
community s goals are and send them to the appropriate municipal offices or economic
development committees. Community economic development

Literary writing is a process; sharing the written word on paper for a reader to join in the vision
of what is written. The progression to allow another to imagine the concepts that are developed
from one s mind. For instance, imagine a beautiful stream flowing through a red rock canyon,
twisting, curving, traveling over dirt, rocks, plants, moving with the insects and animals along the
way. As the stream is moving, it travels through a bed of orange flowers, that sway with the water
as it moves through the flowers and one drop remains, standing in the sunlight. The reader

wars, along with all other wars, are started for various reasons, which different international

A liberal, someone who subscribes to the state society approach, would argue that, liberal theory
provides a plausible theoretical explanation for variation in the substantive content of foreign
policy. In other words, while realism and institutionalism may focus on the formal causes of
conflict and cooperation, such as military power; the state society approach explains state s
behavior with regard to certain contexts more appropriately. For example, why should the US
worry about a limited number of nuclear weapons possessed by North Korea, while countries like
Great Britain and France own much larger stockpiles of nuclear weapons? According to realist
theory, states are wary of long term treaties with other states, and therefore the United States should
be worried about those countries that pose a greater potential threat. As modern politics have
shown, this is, of course, not the case. States perceive threats not in the most potentially dangerous,
but in the enemy most likely to provoke war. It is also important to note, that during the course of
history, states change whom they believe to be perceived threats, another fundamental flaw with
both realism and institutionalism. Realism contributes, no theoretical importance, (p. 535) to the
advancement of economic development in international politics, while a liberal would argue that
the economic nature of a state has a direct affect on state behavior.

The Wisdom of Silicon Valley
This is, very broadly, Silicon Valley s take on deregulation, or: heterarchy over hierarchy. Distributed
networks that auto match people for commerce/socializing is better than hierarchy that uses
command+control to influence/restrict decisions. As I wrote this, I wanted to add a
counterexample, exception to a rule, or other clarification many times over. This email is me
portraying what I think is the prevailing, semi unexamined wisdom of Silicon Valley.
Most of Silicon Valley wants deregulation because they have seen regulation fail and deregulation
succeed. Wall Street is heavily regulated and heavily subsidized. Wall Street is not capitalismto
them. Wall Street is crony capitalism: When shit goes bad, you get government money. When shit
goes well, you get all the money! You spend all your money to rig the rules so you get more
money, which you use to rig the rules, etc.
Silicon Valley redeems capitalism from Wall Street. If you succeed, you succeed and keep the
money (mostly). If you fail, the company goes under. You can try again, but you don t get bailed
out. Crucially, there is a healthy ecosystem, nobody gets too large and nobody is too small, at least
within SV; There are marginalized people just down the street in the mission that aren t in silicon
valley.
Nobody gets too large because then they can t innovate and start to fail: Sun, Digital, HP, AOL, etc.
are all companies that got huge and then either got massively devalued or closed. The only

The major role of the project manager or team is to lead all processes and participants of a given
project. In satisfying this role, the project manager or team has the difficult task of predicting
project schedules and budgets, including possible setbacks that may adversely impact them. Where
setbacks are encountered, the project manager or team should strive to compensate for these, to
bring the project within agreed requirements. For example, recent recipients of the Project of the
Year Award in 2009 and 2010 demonstrated their ability to achieve project goals despite significant
setbacks.
In 2009, the Newmont TS Power Plant Project faced challenges from a difficult economic landscape
in 2004 and an environment with unparalleled demand for technical resources and construction
labor, while operating in a remote location. The project management team adopted a risk
management approach and focused on high performance teamwork. The former approach, with risk
management and mitigation, is among core strategies advocated by the Project Management
Institute. The latter attribute, regarding the level of teamwork, was enhanced by adopting many
team building sessions, and by valuing a clear vision for the goals expected by all stakeholders in
the project. Goals were assessed on many aspects, including schedule, quality, safety, and
sustainability. The Project of the Year Award recipients described their project management strategy

The Causes Of Forced Migration In The Country Of Population
Forced migration is defined as, a general term that refers to the movements of refugees and
internally displaced people (those displaced by conflicts within their country of origin) as well
as people displaced by natural or environmental disasters, chemical or nuclear disasters, famine,
or development projects (Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, n.d.). Since
the 1940, this issue has risen steady and affects over a million individuals globally. In 2015, nine
out of 1000 people were evacuated by force (Bozorgmehr Razum, 2017). Health problems can
become abundant among forced migrants due to the vast amount of people dwelling within a
small camp. Multiple diseases may begin to fester among the refuge location because many
people may bring the foreign illness to the location. This may lead to new illnesses in a place that
has not experienced that particular type of illness in that area. Because majority of forced
migrants are in such crowded quarters, diseases can proliferate quickly throughout the population
as a result of poor hygiene and sanitation. This leads to an increase in health care demand;
however, due to the increased amount of people in the vicinity these types of services may be
limited or unavailable to the individuals. A decrease or destruction of health care to forced migrates
can eventually lead to and increase mortality rate (Skolnik, 2016). Language and cultural barriers
may impact health care attainment for some individuals of forced

Irish, so to speak, therefore, while the Peelites saw public works as essential to their relief policy,

Britons believed that the Irish peasants were always seeking to get something for nothing. A

The Three Reasons Of Chivalry In The Modern Society
In this technologically advanced world, there is an element that is missing. In everyday life,
there used to be chivalry: holding open doors, pulling a chair out for a woman, and even the
phrase ВЁladies go first.ВЁ Chivalry is courteous acts and gallant behavior, especially toward
women, also known as the gentleman. There are very few modern gentleman and that is the
problem with today s world. Not to mention, all of society has lost respectfor each other. There are
three main reasons that chivalryhas disappeared, the addiction to social media, the general lack of
manners, and finally, women themselves. There is no way to solve a problem that no one cares
about. Unfortunately, not a whole lot of people care about chivalry, and the basic respect for all
men. Ergo, there is no guaranteed solution, but maybe if the general public agree to teach some
sort of chivalrous content in public schools, we could start something big. The first reason that
there are very few gentleman left, is the fact that this generation relies so heavily on social media.
According to a study from the family technology education non profit group, Common Sense
Media, ВЁteens are spending more than one third of their days using media such as online video
or music nearly nine hours on average,ВЁ therefore people are distracted by their devices.
Individuals spend so much time on their phone, that they do not feel like talking to people they

Defeat Of The Plains Indians
Many people associate the beginning of the defeat of the plains Indians with the Fort Laramie
Treaty signed in 1868, yet ever since the Spanish set sail for the New World in 1492, European and
American Powers tried to push out the natives. Throughout 1870 1900, better known as the Gilded
Age, the federal government attempted, but failed to confine Native Americans to specific areas.
The plains Indians were ultimately defeated because of the governments willingness to deploy
military forces, construction of railroads and buildings on Indian settlements, and most impacted by
the butchery of the buffalo, whom the Indians maintained every aspect of their life around.

Protein Thermal Stability Essay
Proteins are a series of connected amino acids, and in food products, proteins provide both
nutritional and functional properties that contribute to the quality of a food system (Christen and
Smith 2000). Protein in the diet is essential to the maintenance of life and health. Proteins are
compounds with a function that do work in the body such as facilitate reactions; however,
proteins are also functional in food systems. Proteins are used for a variety of reasons such as: to
create an emulsion, join pieces of meat together, form a skin on the surface of a product, and form
a stable foam matrix. Milk proteins such as whey and casein are isolated for many different
functions in food systems such as: foaming, whipping, gelation,... Show more content on

There are multiple methodologies implemented by scientists to determine protein concentration.
One of the oldest and most commonly used methods is the Biuret method (Okutucu and others
2007). The Biuret method is a colormetric assay that utilizes a spectrophotometric change
accomplished by reactions containing peptide bonds in conjunction with copper (Okutucu and
others 2007; Gornall and others 1949) to determine protein concentration based on a standard
reference. Thermal stability of a protein is an important factor in food systems. Heat is commonly
used to cook and/or sterilize a food product for a number of reasons. Heat is used in cooking to
denature the proteins present in bacteria to destroy them; however, if certain food proteins are
denatured, the food product could lose its functionality. Heating can also have beneficial effects on
proteins such as flavor, tenderness and digestibility (Christen and Smith 2000).
Protein thermal stability is not fully understood and can be due to a host of factors such as internal
folding, hydrogen bonding, electrostatic forces, and calcium affinity (Vogt and Argos 1997). There
are many types of proteins that convey thermally stable properties such as malate dehydrogenase,
lactate dehydrogenase, ferrodoxin, hydrolase, phosphofructokinase, and others (Vogt and Argos
1997). Argos and others (1997) explain that protein thermal stability is a result of the amino acid
sequence and the

In this paper we will discuss Toyota s Production System and how it works with the strategy of
their business. We will define their mission and visions goals and their core principles as it applies
to their company. This paper will also discuss their basic approaches and general practices. It is also
important to understand what the Toyota Production Systementails and how Lean operations began.
For instance, according to Stevenson, lean operation is a flexible system of operations that uses
considerably fewer resources than a traditional system. For example, Lee s Transportation owned
by Tony and Lisa Jones, can no longer operate due to several vehicle accidents caused by their
drivers. This has resulted in an increase in their insurance premiums with All State and the
premiums are too expensive for them to maintain their business. This unfortunate situation has
caused a great hardship and Tony and Lisa have no other option than to discharge their employees.
Eventually, they coordinate with a business partner and financial advisor and are able to start their
company again under a changed name, Loving Hands. They are now able to obtain insurance
coverage through State Farm.
The Jones re hire their previous employees but with new policies and procedures implemented.

Developement Of Europe Essay
Development of Europe
The notions of modernity, modernization, and modernism play an important role in better
understanding the development of Europe. These three concepts can be applied to a range of
transformations in the areas of politics, socio economics, and culture respectively. The three
concepts are connected, yet each has its own unique qualities that are useful in understanding the
changes across Europe in this period. These ideas are crucial to the better comprehension of the
creation of the Europe of today.
To understand the significance of the terms, it is important to first understand the terms themselves.

The common workers were forced to move from the country into the cities where they could find
work in the factories. This notion of the movement from country life to urban life epitomizes
modernization. This movement shows that things are modernizing. Up until this point most of the
worlds population existed in the country and as people moved into the city the world including
England became more modern like today, with the majority of the population in urban regions. The
processes of industrialization lead to and basically are what modernization is defined as. By
understanding the process of industrialization, modernization can be better seen and understood.
Finally, modernism is predominantly a term referring to a cultural movement. In the late
nineteenth and early twentieth centuries it was a cultural celebration of the notion of progress.
People were rejecting the superficial, material excess and looking down inside themselves. This
rejection of the material excess is embodied by many of the authors and artists of the time. For
instance, the Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen s character of Nora in his play A Doll s House
is the perfect example. Nora s rejection and leaving of her loveless and oppressive marriage shows
the shrugging off of the will of the society in exchange for one s own happiness. Another

Apollandsian Vs Dionyysian
Friedrich Nietzsche believed that art fit into two categories: the Apollonian and the Dionysian, or
sometimes a combination of the two. The Apollonian consists of visual art and poetry, while the
Dionysian is music and dancing. But lyrical music, or poetry in music form, is a combination of
the two. Revenge of the Dadaists by The Agonist is this kind of song, as there is emphasis on
both the lyrics and the music. Within the lyrics is an indirect description of the wisdom of Silenus
and its reversal: where life is horrible and death is the end goal, but then art justifies life s problems
and eternal life is desired. The singer also sings in the first person, thus surrendering subjectivity
through the music. And the words imitate the sound... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But since lyrical music is a combination of both the Apollonian and the Dionysian, it is hard to
say which it supports. Even with the constant use of I throughout many songs, including
Revenge of the Dadaists, it s hard to say if this is the songwriter s voice, the singer s voice, or the
universal voice of humanity in general. Nietzsche says that In the first place, as Dionysian artist
he has identified himself with the Primal Unity, its pain and contradiction... Now, however, under
the Apollonian dream inspiration, this music reveals itself to him again as a symbolic dream
picture... The artist has already surrendered his subjectivity in the Dionysian process. The picture
which now shows him his identity with the heart of the world, is a dream scene, which embodies
the primordial contradiction and primordial pain, together with the primordial joy, of appearance
(511 512). In other words, despite the I used throughout the song, the fact that it is set to music
makes the I become part of the Dionysian, thus representing the whole world. So even while the
singer sings about personal issues, these problems become dreamlike and universal so anyone can
connect to them. Thus everyone knows and feels the singer s pain through contradiction. So in

Essay about Osteoarthritis and the Ideal Treatment
Osteoarthritis and the Ideal Treatment
Osteoarthritis, or degenerative joint disease, is a form of arthritis characterized by the breakdown
of cartilage within joints. Cartilage serves to provide cushion at the ends of bones, and when the
cushion is not sufficient, as in osteoarthritis, the bones rub together. As a result, osteoarthritis
sufferers are constantly plagued by stiff, swollen, and inflamed joints (http://www.arthritis.org
/answers/diseasecenter/oa.asp). It is a relatively common condition, with an estimated 20 million
American sufferers, most of whom are elderly (http://webmd.lycos.com/content/article

Glucosamine can be synthesized for commercial use from crab, lobster, or shrimp shells (Ghosh,
Smith, and Wells, 1992). Those with allergies to shellfish need not worry, because the allergy is to
the meat, not the shell (http://webmd.lycos.com/content/article/1707.50223). In the making of the
supplemental tablets, glucosamine is combined with sulfate or hydrochloride. The recommended
dosage is usually between 1000 and 2000 milligrams a day, and glucosamine is often taken in
conjunction with chondroitin, which is shown to enhance treatment results. (http:/

How does it work?
Glucosamine stimulates production of glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans, the two essential
building blocks of cartilage. Advocates of the treatment say that artificially synthesized glucosamine
supplements can jumpstart glucosamine production within joints. Choindroitin is made of many of
the same molecules as glucosamine, and essentially serves the same purpose. The long lasting pain
relief and functional improvements that are reported by users of the supplement come as a result of
anti inflammatory agents, an increase in cartilage building activities, and a reduction in the
enzymatic destruction of cartilage. Along with a termination in the progression of joint damage,
reversal of damage is also highly likely. The rapid pain relief upon initiation of a glucosamine

organizations are focusing their efforts on new strategies to publicize information (Rowen 136).
When following the argument of this paper, one would suspect disputes over if organizations
should focus on improving the system of truth commissions to further enhance and better the lives
of civilians, truth commissions as well as other truth seeking initiatives. However, the
documentation for truth telling does just as it sounds. Measures such as these would be beneficial
to cases similar to that of Haiti and would improve the basis of truth telling. Restorative justice

Jack Johnsons Relationship
As the boats came in, the men were all shivering at the result of fear, except for the rare few who
were willing to die for their country. Jack Johnsons was one of the most patriotic people on the
boats, his almost opposite Benjamin Patrick , who is a cowardice man and not brave what so
ever. Jack dislikes most people who do not wish to serve their country in Gallipoli. Jack Johnson
and Benjamin Patrick were on the first boats to enter the beaches, before they were noticed by
the Turkish Soldiers. Jack and Ben were just some of the people who had helped build the
trenches. Once they had settled down Benjamin met someone by the name of Toby and started a
conversation about how horrible it is there and how Ben is coming with an idea to get himself
discharged, although Toby had told Ben that being a deserter will ruin the family name, while
also being charged with treason if anyone were to learn about your actions. After this, Ben had
tried to change the subject, Have you heard? General Birdwood is stealing extra rations once
Toby had realised what he was trying to do, he had just walked away and ignored Ben. Benjamin
later started to brainstorm on how he would be able to be discharged on a piece of worn out
paper, although didn t put his name on it. Jack had later found the plans and suspected one of the
members of the platoon are going to purposely injure themselves with the intention to be relieved
of duty. Jack at first suspected Toby as he didn t think Benjamin had the balls to be shot,
especially if it meant he was going to do it on purpose. After Jack had made this assumption, he
confronted Toby; saying, Are you the one planning on abandoning your brothers soldier?! ,
Toby had then replied, I don t know what you re talking about Jack, remind me , I found your
plans to leave you coward , Toby chuckled in reply to this statement and said, This is hilarious,
they re probably Bens... , Jack yelled across the trenches IS THIS TRUE PATRICK?! , Yes sir...
Ben had replied. Jack walked towards ben in a threatening manner, as if he was about to throw
punch, and he was, he cocked his arm back, and swang as hard as possible, although his arm was
caught by a private who had been observing the argument.

Illness Through The Eye Of The Beholder
Illness Through the Eye of the Beholder Because identities are both externally prescribed and
internally experienced, it is crucial that we evaluate the methodology by which medical
professionals identify and treat illnesses. At the point where suffering is unique to each individual,
it is important that we also consider the tools that each person has to describe their symptomology,
as to elucidate their sufferingin the context of the clinical perspective so that appropriate resources
and treatments would be made available to them. One such methodology used to understand
illnesses is known as the illnessnarrativein which Dr. Arthur Kleinman describes in his book, The
Illness Narratives, as [An] alternative therapeutic approach [originating] in the reconceptualization
of medical care as (1) empathic witnessing of the existential experience of suffering and (2)
practical coping with the major psychosocial crises that constitute the menacing chronicity of that
experience (10). Kleinman argues that this type of engagement between the doctor and the patient
is key to the recovery process of the patient. However, his argument relies on one, the effectiveness
of empathy through storytelling within the doctor patient relationship, and two, the ability of the
doctor to fully understand the illness experience depicted by the patient. These two implicit
assumptions are contested by Toni Morrison in her novel, Home, where she asserts that we cannot
fully empathize with another s

It seemed overdone given the situation Taylor becoming overwhelmed with her father s sudden
turn for the worse. I think rather than impulsively deciding that she should never have involved
Henry in her life again because it was strangely selfish to do so, Taylor should have realized that
she was desperately in need of his support more than ever and that he was willing to oblige, given
his caring personality. I think Taylor felt almost as if she needed to give all her time to her
family. For example, she speaks about the contrast of being at home and being at the lake house.
I kept thinking back to all those nights in Connecticut, when I was out the door as soon as
dinner was over, yelling my plans behind me as I headed to my car, ready for my real night to
begin my time with my family just something to get through as quickly as possible. And now that
I knew that the time we had together was limited, I was holding onto it, trying to stretch it out, all

The Between Inductivist And Popper s Points Of View Of...
The following essay aims to discuss the inconsistencies between the inductivist and Popper s
points of view of science rationality of science in light of claims that the scientific method is
inductive yet an inductive method is no. I think is rational to say that inductivist view of science
has significant contradiction that Popper s view solves. To support Popper s view my argument
will introduce the inductivist and falsificationsist views and I will focus in showing the issues of
considered science as objective, scientific knowledge as proven and nature as uniform as well as the
differences between inductivism and falsificationism to the creation of hypothesis.
The main view of the statement seeing scientific knowledge as proof relays in the assumption that
scientific reasoning is inductive. Therefore, as first point I will introduce the main statement of
inductivism. The principle of induction states scientific method relays in the objective observation
as the basis for the foundation of laws and theories without the influence of subjectivisms such as
opinions and beliefs, for this uses the observation of particular statements to the creation of general
statements. Furthermore, inductivism assumes that nature will always be uniform, thus infers from
past patterns to the creation of hypothesis and laws. Finally, inductivism sees scientific knowledge
as proven knowledge.
Secondly I will introduce the Popper s view known as falsificationism and its inconsistencies with

Overview of the Healthy Food for Healthy School Act Essay
It was lunch time and students walked into the cafeteria to purchase lunch. A wide variety of
food was placed in front of them to choose from ranging from pizza to burgers to bags of chips
and chocolate bars. Their choices were endless up until a new reform took over and enlisted new
changes. The Healthy Food for Healthy SchoolAct was placed on September 1st, 2008. Its policy
entailed schools to practice healthy eating where they would be dropping trans fat from food and
beverages sold in schools and establishing mandatory nutritionstandards for food and beverages
sold in schools (Ontario Ministry of Education). While this reform plays a significant role in the
health of students, it also has a great impact on other sectors.... Show more content on

As stated in Food: How School Food Affects Student Health, where there is a lack of creativity and
motivation to cultivate a healthy and sustainable menu, fast food chains, junk food vendors, and
soda companies rush in to fill the void, offering partnerships with schools that allow them to market
their products in schools (2008). With the new reform in place, schools have been instructed to
follow new guidelines and nutrition programmes to meet the standards of a healthy school. This
required the removal of vending machine sodas, and the reconfiguration of the foods in all school
cafeterias. With this new reform in place, schools have seen various outcomes from this change.
Having the Healthy Food for Healthy School Act means that any links with corporations would
result in minimal interactions and weaken the links they have. This can be seen as both a positive
and negative development. The positive outlook on it is that students will benefit greatly from the
healthy act as they will be encouraged to eat healthy foods and take part in an active and healthy
lifestyle. The downside is that implementing the healthy school act means putting more money
towards this section as healthier foods cost more than non healthy foods. As expenses are taken out
from other accounts, an ongoing increase of educational inequalities continues. Schools have found
themselves caught between the need to promote healthy choices and the need for

Essay On Black Hair Care
Top 5 most things you need to know about black hair care
Over the course of the last few years the volume of information on how to take care of black hair
has grown exponentially. Social media has provided us with easy access to this information and in
response black hair has become the rave. Having African American hairis an exciting journey. It s a
marathon and not a sprint so no matter how long you ve had your black hair in its natural state
you will continue to learn and mature in the ways you take care of it. Here are the top 5 things
you absolutely need to know about caring for black hair.
Cleansing is important but shampooing is not
Traditional shampoos are on the list of products to avoid if you are trying to grow and maintain
healthy natural hair. Traditional shampoos use sulfates to cleanse hair and sulfates are extremely
drying to natural hair. Since the health of natural hair depends largely on how moisturized it is, the
types of cleansers are avoided by many naturals. There are many alternate cleansers including mud
washes, co washes and sulfate free shampoos.

In fact shrinkage is a sign that your hair is elastic and by extension healthy since the ability to
stretch without breaking and then return to its original position (elasticity) is a function of
healthy hair and shrinkage is a part of that. Frizz is fact of life for those with kinky/ curly hair
because the cuticle layer does not lie flat and in sticking up manifests itself as frizz. Even straight
hair frizzes so its best to embrace it as straightening ( to counter shrinkage) and using gels and
serums (to counter frizz) can have negative effects on the hair such as heat damage and product
buildup that can both lead to dryness and breakage among other

Summary Of In The Land Of The Free
In the article In the land of the free are you free to sit out the national anthem? Jaweed Kaleem
covers the story of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick sitting during the national
anthem and the debate that came along with it. Kaepernick is a supporter and activist for Black
Lives Matter movement. While Kaepernick grew up with two white parents, his biological father
was African American. I support Kaepernick because many African American athletes feel like they
represent a country that does not represent them and because Kaepernick is just exercising his
freedom of speech that is written clearly in the first amendment of the Constitution.
Many African American athletes throughout the years have felt like they represent a country that
does not represent them. In 1968 Olympic runners Tommie Smith and John Carlos raised their
fists in black power saluted while the national anthem played during a medal ceremony in
Mexico City . Then in 1972, Jackie Robinson made his own view known in an autobiography. I
cannot stand and sing the anthem. I cannot salute the flag. I know that I am a black man in a
white world. . Some of the best athletes the U.S has ever had do not feel like they are represented

about expressing his beliefs in the correct way because he is not disrespecting anyone and is not
violating anyone else s rights by protesting. Right now Kaepernick is leading the movement for
African American Athletes like Eric Reid and Jeremy Lane to make a stand also. It takes one to

Baseball Is The Best Sports Essay
Why Baseball Is the Best Sport
As Walt Whitman stated, I see great things in baseball. It s our game the American game.
Baseball has always been America s Pastime making it the greatest sport to be played. From
Mike Trout to Ken Griffey Junior or even all the way back to the Babe, baseball has been a constant
success in the eyes of every fanatic. Four cases come to mind to prove that baseball is a cut above all
other sports. Baseball is superior over all other sports because of the food. All baseball fanatics
know that the concessions are a must, every time they visit the ballpark. In 2013, there were
20,421,361 ballpark franks sold at stadiums around the MLB. The hot dogs aren t the only
attraction, though. For example, the famous chili cheese nachos at Great American Ballpark in
Cincinnati or the carne asada fries for the Padres. And the list doesn t end there. Every stadium in
the MLB has their own signature dish. Even though the MLB possesses the best ... Show more

The history behind this sport is unlike any other. Jackie Robinson came into the sport in 1947
and changed the sport forever. Not only did this change affect baseball, it affected the whole
world helping the end of segregation laws in 1964. Also the records are like nothing else. No
other sport can experience the atmosphere of a perfect game or a no hitter in the making.
Records are broken each and every year in baseball, making the statistics of the game just as
interesting as the game itself. Another example of the MLB s rich history is that it brought our
country together during a time of need. For example, teams rallied around New York City in
2001 and honored all the victims of 9/11. During World War 2, baseball was one of the only
bright spots in the world. The sport held families together and helped keep people s minds off of
actions overseas. Baseball goes all the way back to the 19th century, and there has never been a
sport quite like

Myth Of Meritocracy
The Myth of Meritocracy: Corruption in the Media and America s Education System
Two hundred and fifty years ago, America was formed as a classless society, a meritocracy based
on initiative, effort, and perseverance (Rocca 2). It was the land of equal opportunity, where
power was vested in those individuals who had earned it. Advancement in society was based on
merit, not favoritism. Those were the ideals America was built upon, but that is no longer the case.
Diana Kendall s essay Framing Class, Vicarious Living and Conspicuous Consumption and Jean
Anyon s study From Social Class and the Hidden Curriculum of Work analyze two areas of society
that foster inequality and validate the myth of meritocracy: our class system and education system.
Anyon s essay describes the different teaching methods in fifth grade classrooms located in varying
socioeconomic communities. Through her research, she points out that students in working class
schools are treated much worse than those in affluent, elite classrooms, supporting the claim that
opportunity is not distributed fairly in our public education system. Kendall s essay investigates
another area where meritocracy should be but no longer is at work. She places blame on the media
for the growing gap between upper and lower class Americans. She analyzes the way the media
shapes our everyday lives and taints our view of class and social inequality. While both essays use
logos to build their arguments and strengthen their ethos, Kendall takes a more informal tone in her
essay and more heavily utilizes pathos. Although, rarely, does she blatantly bad mouth the media,
Kendall has a more opinionated thesis littered with negative undertones about the media s influence
within society. Anyon s summary of the study she conducted is purely qualitative data that she
presents in an unbiased manner. Although she still makes an argument, there is little to no personal
opinion about the issue. Instead, she chooses to build her ethos through clear and logical data,
allowing room for the reader to really form their own opinion about the matter and potentially
investigate it further. Framing Class, Vicarious Living and Conspicuous Consumption analyzes the
influential role the

Lamb To The Slaughter Suspense
How do writers create suspense in The Signalman and Lamb to the Slaughter ?
Gothic literature and its both sub genres, contemporary and traditional are looking for strange,
eccentric, the supernatural, the magical and the sublime. Sometimes subtly intermingled with the
realistic representation and stimulation of fear and horror within the context of a general focus on
the emotional rather than the rational it frequently has an exotic setting and locations which creates
more suspense for the reader and in large his imagery. We can see these functions more in the
traditional literature such as Charles Dickens The Signalman the writer used the darkness in the
tunnel and the ghost that appears every night to create suspense and gives the ... Show more content

feeling as each person has a different view for imagining the leg of lamb. The purpose of
imagery is to help the reader to understand the writer s message that is strong and visual as later
the reader will relate the image he made with how hard did Mary slaughter her husband. This
makes the reader think of how much pain caused as we can see later when the doctor came to
see how her husband was killed they suspected that it s something like a heavy metal as they
found a small patch of congealed blood on Patrick s head. The word sledgehammer shows in
detail how hard Mary hit her husband which catches the reader s breath and gives him an eerie
and scary feeling as the reader didn t expect that all of this could happen after the writer showed

The first instance is in Book One. The reason that Satan gathered up fellow angels to start a war
is because he was jealous of the Son. Similarly to actual religious texts, John Milton makes it
very plain in the novel that God and the Son are two separate entities. The Son or as some call
him, Jesus was somewhat of the vessel to save humanity. The Son was more of God s right hand
or like the golden kid . Satan was envious and did not think that it was fair, so he tried to fight.
Despite what most would say, I actually feel like this jealousy makes Satan out to be more of a
hero as opposed to a villain. In order to be jealous if someone, one would have to care about said
person. One have to have some kind of fear or anxiety about losing said person. So, I feel that
Satan was concerned that he would lose his favorable position with God. Satan was ultimately
jealous of the Sons position and felt that he was replacing him. So, I feel that if Satan cared then
he probably originally had good

  • 2. Good Food Revolution Analysis In the book Good Food Revolution, it focuses on the main point of Will Allen s life and how he has always been around food. I believe the book does a good job with tying in different connections and references with food and with Will Allen since he has grown up around food ever since he was little. When the book states The fate of a seed can be predicted by the health of the soil where it takes the rootI believe that Will Allen is referring and connecting it back to himself. I believe he relates this to himself because a plant s roots are surrounded by soil and Will Allen has planted his roots around farming and food. A plant needs soil to survive and Will Allen needed farming to survive. His whole life and job has revolved around planting. A plant lives off of what it knows and its surroundings and Will Allen did the same. His parents planted the seed to get the initial start in farming so he picks up where they left off. Even though he was not into farming when he was younger he learned to grow and find a passion for farming as he grew older because it has always been around him. No matter where he went he held onto farming because that is all he knew. I believe this connection between Will Allen and the quote about the plant enhances and helps tell the story of how Will Allen got involved in farming. The connection The Good Food Revolution tries to also make is between ecology and human development. Ecology is about dealing with relations of organisms to one another ... • 3. The Importance Of Stereotypes In Literature Stereotypes run rampant in the literary world today. It is much easier to write a stereotypical character because of the reader expects them to act or respond a certain way and does not require an explanation of their motivation. But much like Chimamanda Adichie warns, Show a people as only one thing over and over again, and that is what they become (Adichie 00:09:25 00:09:37). But this issue is often addressed in reference to the protagonist. The hero is always white; the hero is always attractive. The hero never disserves to suffer. Single stories do not just refer to the physical characteristics of the character, though in can and often does. The heroes all tend to look the same so we associate goodness with that specific physical description, but motivations can be just as misleading. All the heroes do good things because they lived the same experiences, so these experiences make someone good. Also society remains so focused on the single story surrounding the protagonist, it often forgets the other main component of a story, the antagonist. But by dissecting the possible motivations for the villains, as my adaption does, I hope to explore the different avenues to villainy and in turn disrupt their single story. Both nature and nurture can cause a person to do and say the things they do in later life regardless of whether these things are good or bad. In my adaptation, both Bluebeard and the evil queenhave a corrupted source of nurture. Bluebeard s dad murders a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Charactersitics of a Museum, Questions and Answers 1.What are, in your opinion, the characteristics of the museum idea? As I remember from my travelling experience, a museum exists in each city, even the smallest one and sometimes even in villages. Visiting a museum at least once a year is a compulsory part of any school programme in my country, Russia. However, what is a museum? What are reasons for its existing? Who and how chooses display units for exhibitions from the huge variety of items in the world? All these questions can be answered if to determine the characteristics of the museum idea. Museums are public instituitons. Their number has increased and their role has transformed over the last fifty years. They attract a great number of people, from tourists to citizens, from children to adults. However, in order to understand which institution can be called a museum, it is necessary to examine the main objectives of its existence. The most obvious aim is an educational one since museums serve for society in order to conserve, research and communicate material evidence of people and their environment. Museums give people the opportunity to determine their place in the world, understand their cultural identity, develop self respect and respect for others. Nethertheless, to conduct this educational mission, careful and meaningful selection of objects is required. After being chosen, all the items need to be preserved for future generations under proper conserving conditions such as good light, air conditioning, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With the adoption of new flavors and packaging, we need to weigh both the benefits and the risks associated with changing the product s packaging. Lets begin with laying out the risks associated with the change in packaging. The excerpt tells us that the market for Tic Tac breath mintshas increased ever since 1969. This indicates that the breath mints are not a new to the world product. Customers have seen this product before, in fact, breath mints are a convenience product for many consumers. • 9. What was the significance of the Marshall Plan on Post-war... What was the significance of the Marshall Plan on Post war Europe? *FOURTH DRAFT* September 2, 1945, marked the end of the Second World War, a day in which soldiers could finally leave foreign shores for home, but they would soon discover that home was not how they left it. For World War II had taken its toll on Europe. On both sides all that had been built before now lay in ruin and desolation, with economic disaster and extreme poverty now left to govern its inhabitants. Industrial production was critically low, a staggering amount of people were left either unemployed or homeless and most major cities, industrial facilities and transportation systems had been critically destroyed, leaving Europe s infrastructure in a state of disarray.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was the most staggering and portentous experiment in the entire history of our foreign policy, the young Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., who served on its staff, wrote. It saved us from catastrophe, a manager at Europe s largest tire factory declared. But under the scrutiny of modern historians the importance of the Marshall plan is claimed to be overstated, was Europe really in such a dire state of affairs that it required such a boost just to stay afloat? Or was it simply America s chance to exert pressure and influence on one of its biggest economic partners whilst also keeping the threat of communism at bay? That is the question I shall be posing during the course of this essay. From 1948 (the year that the plan was implemented) to 1952 (the year that Europe declared it would no longer require Marshall Aid) Europe experienced the fastest rate of growth in its history. Industrial and agricultural production increased by 30% of the pre war levels and the standard of living¬¬ improved dramatically. Western Europe was set to commence two decades of unprecedented growth. This is exactly what the Marshall Plan had aimed to achieve, not wanting to just send a lump sum of $13 billion and be done with it, America set out to rejuvenate the European economies in a number of ways. They did this by providing European markets with experts, new machines and breakthrough technology which helped to push industrial and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. France language Essay Numerous cultures from around the world have circulated many traditions to other cultures. Although most of the traditions in the earlier eras were not recorded or written, through communication skills, one is able to access these customs by interviewing someone from that culture. Language is the key module to a single culture, whether only one culture speaks a particular language or many cultures across the world share that same language. Sharing a language with another culture is a way of combining two or more cultures together in which they have a mutual characteristic of each culture. The French languageis spoken in several countries; some consist of the United States, Canada, France, and other adjacent countries. With the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of these customs is the use of the twenty four hour time for official diagrams and everyday scheduling. The way people carry out their days emphasizes the foremost variation from culture to culture. Annual calendars show a discrepancy in which the day comes preceding the current month. Another contrast in culture involves food. In the modern day English culture, most families obtain the groceries from a local supermarket or a confined grocery store. Throughout the French culture, however, cuisine is purchased through a fresh market or a farmer s market before each meal or day. This actually allows French citizens to spend less and eat more fresh food. The French culture is an immense stretch or a diminutive stretch from the traditional way of life in the United States. Another variation in the French language is the structure of grammar. Terms used in the French language are very dissimilar compared to that of the English language. For instance, the English word know is actually represented in two different ways used in the French verbal communication. ConnaГ®tre is used when trying to say that one physically knows another. Savoir is used when one actually possesses knowledge about a specific fact or truth. Both words are used to make the statement that one knows something, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this vein, the sentiments and reactions that hovered the web in awe of the acceptance letter sent by Dean John Ellison, from the University of Chicago, to the incoming class of 2020 took coals to Newcastle. In the letter, the dean apprised the lot that, Our commitment to academic freedom means that we do not support so called trigger warnings, we do not cancel invited speakers because their topics might prove controversial, and we do not condone the creation of intellectual safe spaces where individuals can retreat from ideas and perspectives at odds with their own. This modern artwork shows Gabriel asking Maryif she would become the mother of Jesus. The other one is the Holy Night Nativity Scene by Antonio Correggio created in 1530, which focuses on and sets the scene of Jesus birth. The Annunciation displays the moment Gabriel was sent by God to tell Mary she would become pregnant. This is present in the passage God sent angel Gabriel to a virgin and he said to Mary God has a surprise for you: You will become pregnant and give birth to a son and call his name Jesus (Luke 1:26 33). Community economic development is a field of study that actively elicits community involvement when working with government, and private sectors to build strong communities, industries, and markets (Riley, 2012). Economic Development applies to the context of people s sense of right and wrong. The definition given by Michael Todaro suggests it is an increase in living standards, improvement in self esteem, needs and freedom from oppression as well as greater choice; whereas economic growth is necessary, but not a condition of economic development. Lastly, economic development is concerned with structural changes in the economy, whereas, growth is concerned with increase in the economy s output. According to Daniel Altman, employment increase creates growth, not the other way around. I found this statement interesting because after analyzing the statement and thinking of what it actually means, one can understand that where there is an increase in employment there will be in increase in production and services. Moreover, structural unemployment occurs because of an absence of demand for a certain type of workers with a certain type of skillset. This typically happens when there are mismatches between the skills employers want and the skills that workers have. Lastly, joblessness causes low consumption which in turn causes low growth. Community Economic Development is not just about jobs and income. For example, a type of employment in community economic development involves those in implementing a Community Economic Development Plan and these employees serve in different functions, as plans vary from community to community. Such employees will create studies to determine what a certain community s goals are and send them to the appropriate municipal offices or economic development committees. A liberal, someone who subscribes to the state society approach, would argue that, liberal theory provides a plausible theoretical explanation for variation in the substantive content of foreign policy. In other words, while realism and institutionalism may focus on the formal causes of conflict and cooperation, such as military power; the state society approach explains state s behavior with regard to certain contexts more appropriately. For example, why should the US worry about a limited number of nuclear weapons possessed by North Korea, while countries like Great Britain and France own much larger stockpiles of nuclear weapons? According to realist theory, states are wary of long term treaties with other states, and therefore the United States should be worried about those countries that pose a greater potential threat. As modern politics have shown, this is, of course, not the case. States perceive threats not in the most potentially dangerous, but in the enemy most likely to provoke war. It is also important to note, that during the course of history, states change whom they believe to be perceived threats, another fundamental flaw with both realism and institutionalism. Realism contributes, no theoretical importance, (p. 535) to the advancement of economic development in international politics, while a liberal would argue that the economic nature of a state has a direct affect on state behavior. ... Proteins are used for a variety of reasons such as: to create an emulsion, join pieces of meat together, form a skin on the surface of a product, and form a stable foam matrix. Thermal stability of a protein is an important factor in food systems. Heat is commonly used to cook and/or sterilize a food product for a number of reasons. Heat is used in cooking to denature the proteins present in bacteria to destroy them; however, if certain food proteins are denatured, the food product could lose its functionality. Even with the constant use of I throughout many songs, including Revenge of the Dadaists, it s hard to say if this is the songwriter s voice, the singer s voice, or the universal voice of humanity in general. Nietzsche says that In the first place, as Dionysian artist he has identified himself with the Primal Unity, its pain and contradiction... Now, however, under the Apollonian dream inspiration, this music reveals itself to him again as a symbolic dream picture... The artist has already surrendered his subjectivity in the Dionysian process. The picture which now shows him his identity with the heart of the world, is a dream scene, which embodies the primordial contradiction and primordial pain, together with the primordial joy, of appearance (511 512). In other words, despite the I used throughout the song, the fact that it is set to music makes the I become part of the Dionysian, thus representing the whole world. So even while the singer sings about personal issues, these problems become dreamlike and universal so anyone can connect to them. Thus everyone knows and feels the singer s pain through contradiction. So in Revenge of the Dadaists, the lyrics You leave footsteps of fire / So no one can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay about Osteoarthritis and the Ideal Treatment Osteoarthritis and the Ideal Treatment Osteoarthritis, or degenerative joint disease, is a form of arthritis characterized by the breakdown of cartilage within joints. Cartilage serves to provide cushion at the ends of bones, and when the cushion is not sufficient, as in osteoarthritis, the bones rub together. As a result, osteoarthritis sufferers are constantly plagued by stiff, swollen, and inflamed joints (http://www.arthritis.org /answers/diseasecenter/oa.asp). It is a relatively common condition, with an estimated 20 million American sufferers, most of whom are elderly (http://webmd.lycos.com/content/article /1668.50297). Choindroitin is made of many of the same molecules as glucosamine, and essentially serves the same purpose. The long lasting pain relief and functional improvements that are reported by users of the supplement come as a result of anti inflammatory agents, an increase in cartilage building activities, and a reduction in the enzymatic destruction of cartilage. Illness Through The Eye Of The Beholder Illness Through the Eye of the Beholder Because identities are both externally prescribed and internally experienced, it is crucial that we evaluate the methodology by which medical professionals identify and treat illnesses. At the point where suffering is unique to each individual, it is important that we also consider the tools that each person has to describe their symptomology, as to elucidate their sufferingin the context of the clinical perspective so that appropriate resources and treatments would be made available to them. One such methodology used to understand illnesses is known as the illnessnarrativein which Dr. Arthur Kleinman describes in his book, The Illness Narratives, as [An] alternative therapeutic approach [originating] in the reconceptualization of medical care as (1) empathic witnessing of the existential experience of suffering and (2) practical coping with the major psychosocial crises that constitute the menacing chronicity of that experience (10). Kleinman argues that this type of engagement between the doctor and the patient is key to the recovery process of the patient. However, his argument relies on one, the effectiveness of empathy through storytelling within the doctor patient relationship, and two, the ability of the doctor to fully understand the illness experience depicted by the patient. Myth Of Meritocracy The Myth of Meritocracy: Corruption in the Media and America s Education System Two hundred and fifty years ago, America was formed as a classless society, a meritocracy based on initiative, effort, and perseverance (Rocca 2). It was the land of equal opportunity, where power was vested in those individuals who had earned it. Advancement in society was based on merit, not favoritism. Those were the ideals America was built upon, but that is no longer the case. Diana Kendall s essay Framing Class, Vicarious Living and Conspicuous Consumption and Jean Anyon s study From Social Class and the Hidden Curriculum of Work analyze two areas of society that foster inequality and validate the myth of meritocracy: our class system and education system. Anyon s essay describes the different teaching methods in fifth grade classrooms located in varying socioeconomic communities. Through her research, she points out that students in working class schools are treated much worse than those in affluent, elite classrooms, supporting the claim that opportunity is not distributed fairly in our public education system. Kendall s essay investigates another area where meritocracy should be but no longer is at work. She places blame on the media for the growing gap between upper and lower class Americans. She analyzes the way the media shapes our everyday lives and taints our view of class and social inequality. While both essays use logos to build their arguments and strengthen their ethos, Kendall takes a more informal tone in her essay and more heavily utilizes pathos. Although, rarely, does she blatantly bad mouth the media, Kendall has a more opinionated thesis littered with negative undertones about the media s influence within society. Anyon s summary of the study she conducted is purely qualitative data that she presents in an unbiased manner.
