The Global War on Terror Essay
The Global War on Terror is a military campaign led by the United States and the United Kingdom
and supported by other NATO members. It was originally against al Qaeda and other terrorist
organizations with the purpose of eliminating them. This paper discusses how the Bush Administration
handled the War on Terror as well as different aspects of it, including its terminology, its objectives, its
military operations and criticism against it.
The United States of America was deeply shocked when, on September 11, 2001, airplanes we used as
missiles to destroy the Twin World Trade Towers and damage the Pentagon. Around 3000 people were
killed because of these terrorist attacks. It was seen as the worst terrorist attack on the United States ...

Moreover, most Muslim communities around the world condemned these acts. Politicians have tried
very hard to separate terrorists from Muslims, but it has been difficult. Economical and geopolitical
history has led to some elements of distrust, as well as extremism in both Christian and Muslim
communities adding to the animosity.
The War on Terror campaign has been addressed by many other names such as: World War III, Bush s
War on Terror, The Long War and The Global War on Terror. It with in Camp David on September 16,
2001, that President George W. Bush used the term War on Terror. In an infamous quote, President
Bush said, This crusade this war on terrorism is going to take a while... This comment was deemed
controversial due to the negative associations of the term crusade with Muslims.
The term War on Terror alone has created a psychological phenomenon that struck fear in the minds of
many Americans. The Bush Administration elevated those three words to a national mantra that had
impacted the American democracy destructively. It had impacted the American psyche as well as the
United States standing in the world. In an article by Zibigniew Brzezinski, he explains, Using this
phrase has actually undermined our ability to effectively confront the real challenges we face from
fanatics who may use terrorism against us.

Review Of The Bacchae, The Aeneid, And Book 15 Of...
Within the societies of ancient Greece and Rome, there was a plethora of regimes, Caesars, and
empires at the helm of everyday life. The political sphere encountered in the daily routines of ancient
Greeks and Romans gave influence to the multitude of literary works produced in these societies. The
works of Euripides, Virgil, and Ovid gave a vehicle for these writers to infuse commentary about the
politics of the day. Politics is how groups of people organize making decisions that affect the
individuals contained within said groups. The Bacchae, the Aeneid, and Book 15 of Metamorphoses
all contain commentary concerning politics within their content. In Euripides the Bacchae, the city of
Thebes is shown to have a system of political inheritance as Pentheus is given control over the city by
his grandfather Cadmus, the founder of the city. The god Dionysus is also a grandson of Cadmus, yet
is not chosen to be the heir to Thebes, which creates a rivalry between Dionysus and Pentheus.
Pentheus does not allow Dionysus into the city of Thebes or give recognition to Dionysus at all.
Dionysus and Pentheus both wish to establish their own political rule over the city of Thebes.
Pentheus attempts to rule Thebes in an Apollonian fashion. The women brought to Thebes by
Dionysus are put under arrest at the order of Pentheus, due to the drunken partying they were having
due to Dionysus powers. The women s party went against the social order enforced by the city of
Thebes, and Dionysus

Violence in the Media Essays
In 1884, a man by the name of Paul Nipkow invented a device called the scanning disk. Little did
Nipkow know that years later his invention would be transformed into one of the most popular
pastimes in America today ( Inventors ). Philo T. Farnsworth was the true inventor of television in
1927. He had no idea that thirty five years later his inventions would not only be in ninety percent of
Americans homes, but also strongly effect everyone that watched it. Following the introduction of
television into the United States, the annual homicide rate increased by ninety three percent (Journal
of the American Medical Association). With the invention of television came the job of broadcasting
shows on to the television. Broadcasters soon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main conflict with what s being broadcast is the amount of violence being projected to the kids of
America. Some people say, Its just TV and its not real others say How does my elementary age kid
know it is not reality? This is where the controversy is drawn on whether or not television violence
affects the actions of kids who watch TV on a regular basis.
Ted Turner CEO of Turner Network Television and Cable News Network was quoted as saying that,
TV is the single most significant factor contributing to violence in America.. The number of violent
acts the average American child sees on TV by the age eighteen is two hundred thousand ( Real ).
Average time per week that the American child spends watching television: nineteen hours and forty
minutes. Number of murders witnessed by children on television by the age 18: 16,000, Percent of
youth violence directly attributed to TV viewing is 10 percent ( Real ). These are just a few of the
numerous amounts of statistics of Television violence. Even though these statistics send chills to our
spines while reading them. Americas still seems to turn their eyes away from the problem. While
America in denial of the effects of this violence projected on TV, the television industry feed children

An Investigation Of The Capacity And Lateral Torsional...
Abstract The study includes an investigation of the stresses, deflections capacity and lateral torsional
buckling behavior of regular I section steel column of jib crane subjected to a axial compressive
eccentric loading. The lateral torsional buckling is the main failure mode that controls the design of
slender column. Different shapes of columns are proposed in this study with different cross section,
web shapes and materials. Finite element analysis and experimental study are carried out on both
types (i.e. Regular and proposed column) to calculate and validate results. An optimization technique
is used to optimize the solution from proposed different designs. The thickness of the web and
thickness of column is constant for all specimens with length 2 to 3 m and tested for 500, 750 and
1000 Kg load lifting capacity. Structural analysis is done to examine the influence of the section
dimension due to axial compressive eccentric loading on column. Using the study it is observed that
not only the web thickness, but also the shape of web, angle of web and sectional cross section of steel
column influences the resistance to lateral torsional buckling and bending.
Keywords Slender, bending, lateral torsional buckling, sectional cross section, web shape.

Diversity In The 18th Century
The diversity in 18th century American society was like an undeveloped larva compared to the
intricate butterfly America is today. The larva of 1791 consisted of a white majority, while today s
butterfly is flush with colors from all over the world, where diversity has catalyzed change within the
society as a whole (periodic). Although Thomas Paine argued America represented a haven of
concordant living amongst people of diverse backgrounds under a government promising unalienable
rights, the grand change in American demographics has inevitably produced turmoil among different
cultures, divided by a broad discrepancy of wealth between social classes and sweeping contrast
between ideologies; America, therefore, is too young and diverse of a country where citizens have not
found a common ground to stand together on (parallelism). The pollyannish goal of society is concord,
the weaving of various cultures, ideas, and principles to create a harmonic, unified community. A
society under concord is a utopia, where according to Paine, any difficulty is expunged, simply by
establishing a government based on philosophical ideals. Concord is ... Show more content on

U.S. population multiplied by approximately 80 times, but the presence of other races has waxed as

societal concord than one catholic in culture. Racism is a telling example of discord in American
society today as a result of change in demographics, where the chauvinist Ku Klux Klan purposefully

possibility of achieving concord is like the probability of Wile E. Coyote capturing the Road Runner,

Research Paper On New Lanark
New Lanark was an idea of a utopia.New Lanark is in Scotland. Its founding father was Robert Owen.
His idea was for this to be a perfect utopian community. This town was located near a waterfall called
the Fall of Clyde. The Fall of Clyde made Robert Owen s idea possible to use the mills to make
clothing.Robert Owen is very well known for his industrialization. He worked on this idea alongside
with David Dale. This is his wife s father. Dale Owen had a lot to do with New Lanark as well. Robert
Owen s purpose in the creation of this was to find a way to get rid of evils in the world. His goal was
to just make people feel better. Like for example he made it so that people didn t have hard work . He
made it in New Lanark so people would have not as long hours and the way in which people worked
was less hazardous. Economically I think Owen s end result was to make sure that these people would
live fair lives and be more relaxed. Some of his ideas were similar to Fourier s ideas. He made towns
for people to live. These were referred to as Villages . He built these small houses and he ... Show

1800s. During this time period the work conditions could be very strenuous. The jobs certainly weren

Essay On Insanity Defense
The insanity defense is the most controversial criminal defense that is used in courts (The Insanity).
Ironically, it is the defense that is used the least. According to a professor of law at Santa Clara
University, Professor Alexander, the plea is only used one percent of the time, and works less than half
the time it is used (Steibel). In cases where it is used, it tends to get a lot of attention from the media
which provokes debate from the public (The Insanity). Critics have reservations concerning the
exploitation of the plea, namely that the defendants will use to get shorter sentences or to evade a
guilty verdict completely (The Insanity). However, according to a study done by the American
Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, the majority of those who are judged not guilty by reason of
insanity do in fact suffer from a mental illness (The Insanity). History has shown us that we need the
insanity defense because a person cannot be held responsible for their crimes if they do not have the
mental capacity to understand what they have done wrong or cannot stop themselves from committing
this crime, it would be unjust to punish someone who does not deserve it.
The insanity defense is a plea from the defendant claiming he is not guilty as they do not have the
mental capacity to appreciate what they have done wrong or comprehend the fact that they have
committed a crime (Martin). The basis for insanity was introduced when Daniel M Naghten attempted
to assassinate the prime

Analysis Of Breaker Morant
Within the film Breaker Morant, three Australian Army officers, serving in the Bushveldt Carbineers
during the Second Boer War, are put on trial, for murder, in a court martial (Breaker Morant). The
three men, Harry Morant, Peter Handcock, and George Witton are all accused of the murder of Boer
prisoners of war. In addition, Morant and Handcock are accused of murdering a German missionary,
Reverend Hesse (Breaker Morant). Their defense, Major Thomas, only had one day to prepare their
trial. Lord Kitchener, who ordered the trial, did so in order to show that he is willing to judge his own
soldiers harshly if they disobey the rules of war. Ultimately, he does this in the hopes that it will bring
the Boer War to an end with a peace conference (Breaker Morant). Kitchener is ... Show more content

Colonel Denny, supports this. However, there are immense complexities when it comes to charging
active duty soldiers with murder during battle. In the end, the defendants are found guilty of executing
the prisoners and are sentenced to death, but Witton s sentence was reduced to life in penal servitude
(Breaker Morant). This case often raises a debate about whether or not the men should have been
charged with murder during war time, when orders were not clearly defined. Based on Kant s
Categorical Imperative ethical model, if I was acting as the fifth judge in this case, I would find the
men guilty. This is because a person who utilizes the Kantian view believes that the only pure good is
pure human reason without consequences. This pure human reason works without the influence of
human emotions and desires. A truly good act, as defined by Kant, is performed because of an
obligation to the categorical imperative. Therefore, the objectives and personal agendas of the
individual performing the act must be kept separate. For this reason alone, Morant could have been
found guilty. He could have ignored the verbal orders to kill prisoners, or

Using Technology Into An Organization
Culture View According to a recent LACCD memorandum beginning 2014 all employees will have
the opportunity to download their W2 forms directly from the Districts personnel page. The District
anticipates that this decision will lower their cost of printing and postage. It will also enable
employees to receive financial information quickly and electronically. However, one of the main
drawbacks with modifying the organization procedures is that some employees might feel
apprehensive to the change. The culture of an organization refers to the pattern of development
reflected in a society s system of knowledge, ideology, values, laws, and day to day ritual (Morgan,
120). In the case of LACCD they must understand how the changes in procedures might alter the
culture and shape the views of employees. The ability to integrate technology into an organization
depends on the employee s practices, values, and beliefs. It also depends on their ability to learn how
to use the technology and willingness to implement the technology. I believe that school leaders
should consider integrating technology into an organization in a slow and methodical manner in order
to help employees understand the new procedures and give them the opportunity to adapt. This
method of integration can help organizations implement their plan and lower employee resistance. The
resistance in implementing technology into an organization can significantly increase if it has the
potential to impact the

On Joints Hippocrates Summary
Jessica Pileggi Assignment 1:Ancient Foundations of Manual Medicine, Metaphysics and Science As
early as 2700BC in China, a form of manipulation, described by the Kung Fou Document was
practiced. Centuries later, The Golden Mirror of Medicine had an illustration of a gravity traction
technique, suggesting that the practice of spinal manipulation had continued. The patient was
illustrated standing on two piles of tiles that were removed from under the patient as the practitioner
applied force to the patient s lumbar spine. In his book On Joints, Hippocrates was a physician that
identified two early techniques of spinal manipulation: succession and rachiotherapy. Succussion was
gravity traction carried out forcefully and rachiotherapy utilized a custom table to produce a spinal
adjustment. He is often cited for his saying, Look well to the spine for the cause of disease, as he

Professionalism
Professionalism What does Professionalism mean to me? Professionalism in my term means it is
someone who is very dedicated to their profession. It is an important and great decision to follow by
the rules and ethics of professionalism. If we did not have anyone that cared about their profession it
would cause a lot of problems in our society today. It could cause a lot of disruption in your
workplace. In order to abide by professionalism you must take pride in your job, percieve realistic

that in the future humans are now engineered to stop aging at 25 years and given one more year to

also represents the time till your death. As a result, society have been divided groups, some live with
minimum wages which puts them every day on the brink of death, but also a small group of people
who get to live forever and live in the highest of luxuries. Which makes it a question, how is the

What Is Three Clustering Algorithms That Be Used That Are...
In this section three clustering algorithms which are used in this paper as baseline are briefly
described. They are: Bisecting K means, LSI and PLSI based clustering.
3.1 Bisecting K means
The Bisecting K means is based on K means and can be run quickly for a big volume of data that have
large dimensions. Thus it is appropriate for text clustering (Steinbach et al., 2000). At the beginning,
all of the documents are in one partition. Then the following procedure will be repeated K 1 times to
obtain K clusters. Initially the partition to be broken is selected. In the standard algorithm the partition
with maximal cardinality is chosen, but in this research the one with maximal intra scatter has been
selected as a low quality cluster. Intra ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3.3 Probabilistic Latent Semantic Indexing
Probabilistic Latent Semantic Indexing (PLSI) with its robust statistical foundation represents the
potential of statistics and likelihood principal in solving model fitting and model selection problems.
PLSI defines a proper generative data representation model. For text mining purposes it maps VSM
into a new latent semantic space model. In contrary to terms (words), the topics are unobservable. In
PLSI model the topics (aspects) are discovered, and hidden attribute classes are assigned to them.
Suppose we have n documents in the text collection, m terms and k latent class variables. Let A be the
term document matrix, A(di, ti) is the frequency of term tj in document dj, where i = 1, 2, ..., n and j =
1, 2, ..., m. One can normalize A in this way:
∑A(di, ti) = 1, where i=1 to m. In PLSI, each term ti in document di is originated from a latent
semantic variable class, zl (l = 1, 2, ..., k), that implies the conditional independence of ti and di, on
the state of the associated latent topic variable. The joint probability of di and ti is calculated as
follows:
P ( d i | z l )P ( t j | zl ), (2)
P( d i , t j )= P(zl)
Where P(zl) denotes the probability of topic zl and probability factors P(di|zl) and P(tj|zl) denote how
often document di and term tj are associated with topic variable zl, respectively. The aforementioned
probability factors are used to maximize the log likelihood

The Pros And Cons Of Forced Sterilization
Forced sterilization, also called eugenic sterilization, is a procedure commonly performed on women
as a way to permanently prevent that woman from having future children, and is still being practiced
today in many countries around the world, including the United States.
Sterilization abuse is a practice in which the woman is either unaware she is being sterilized, or she
has been coerced or deceived into getting the procedure done by either being told it is a temporary or
reversible procedure, or being told that by not consenting, there would be negative impacts to her
immigration, housing, government benefits, or parenting.1 This method, which has been documented
in the United States starting around 1907, was commonly used on poor, disadvantaged, unwed,
mentally disabled women, children, and even some men, including many people within a minority
group, as a way to control their fertilization and combat overpopulation.
This gave the government the ability to decide who was incapable of regulating their own
reproduction abilities which is what was used to justify the use of forced sterilization in these groups
of people. It wasn t until the 1970 s that federal legislation passed a sterilization policy to prevent
sterilization of women without their consent, but the caveat to this was those women who it applied to
were those who received government assistance for medical care.2 This was their way of making an
attempt to allow women to have control over their reproductive

Nutella Makes Up for Cocoa Shortage During World War II
The period was World War II there was a shortage of cocoa at the time; Mr. Pietro Ferrero, a pastry
maker founder of the Ferrero company thought that using hazelnuts and mixing it with skim milk and
a little of chocolate would be a good way to appease the short supply of cocoa by allowing chocolate
to last longer. This still being the product s two main ingredients today; hazelnut and cocoa. In Italy,
during the 1940s; Mr. Ferrero created the Nutella spread. In its earliest form, Nutella a hazel nut and
chocolate spread was originally called pasta Gianduja this of course was the Italian term, pasta means
paste and the Gianduja was the name of a famous character in the region in Italy. The paste was first
introduced by being made in the loaves of bread wrapped in tinfoil, used to make sandwiches. A
product popular to children, the bread was tossed away and the paste was most favored. Later workers
decided it would be best if the spread was made easier to spread on the bread then being known as
Supercrema Gianduja , thus being processed in large jars with a yellow sticker on the middle and a red
lid. Soon after in 1964 Pasta Gianduja or Supercrema Gianduja the product was named Nutella: nut
being the origin of the product and ella a soft Italian term.
Nutella rapidly became popular among Italy. Just 25 years ago, in 1983 the Ferrero Company
introduced the product to the United States market and it was first imported to the Northeastern part of

Tips on Looking for the Best Tactical Flashlight
h3 Streamlight 69260 TLR 1 HL High Lumen Rail Mounted Tactical Light /h3
The Streamlight 69260 TLR 1 HL Rail Mounted Tactical Light is a compact and lightweight flashlight
that fits easily on many different firearms, but it may be the best tactical flashlight choice for those
with handguns due to its small size and weight. This particular light is made of anodized aircraft
aluminum, which allows it to be both light weight and very durable.
This tactical flashlight is praised for its extremely high brightness, allowing it to easily cut through
even the harshest of darkness in emergency situations. This brightness is achieved through the use of
numerous powerful LED lights that deliver 630 lumens of light, which is more than bright enough to
blind or stun enemies if needed.
Traditional batteries are the power source of choice for the Streamlight 69260, and the average battery
life is about and hour and 15 minutes of continuous use.
While there are many benefits to this light, you should always keep the negatives in mind when
searching for the best tactical flashlight. The most common complaint is that, despite the fact that
LED lights run cooler than incandescent bulbs, the light gets incredibly hot when active for more than
a few minutes. The heat is also not contained to the glass or front of the light. The entire unit heats up
extremely quickly. This may not seem like a major problem since the light is not meant to be hand
held, but users could end up burning their

connected them with another, or in other words split up. We believe that God has entitled us to pursue
this course and here are the reasons why we feel this way. As people that have founded this land we
believe certain truths and those should not be questioned: we believe that everyone is created equal in
the sight of God; God has given us certain rights; the rights of each person need to be respected and

In A Station Of The Metro, By Erza Pound
Life is short, spend your time wisely is a common phrase many individuals use to see the positive side
in their everyday life and to forget about the negativity that fills them because they only have one life
to live and there is no time for them to be filled with hatred. Time is forever but life is not. There
comes points in life where one has to accept that death is inevitable, and so start to analyze the world
around them to then realize the beauty of life itself. The following poems chosen all represent the
essence of time where psychological issues such as fear, grief, and memory are apparent when the
dealing with the issue of fragility of life. The poem In a Station of the Metro, by Erza Pound suggests
the brevity of life itself as in one glimpse, time has expired and one s life is over without even
realizing. Beginning with the poem s length, it is only two lines long which emphasizes how life runs
at a fast speed. One begins to read the poem, and as soon as you now it, the poem comes to an end.
Life is just like that, one starts off as an infant, believing that they have all the time in the world to do
many things, then without even noticing, time has passed by in a rapid speed and one is an adult just
like that. Pound uses a train as a metaphor to compare how life speeds away in an instant. The speaker
watches the apparition of these faces in the crowd (267) as the train passes by. The doors open quickly,
revealing a sea of faces, and then it closes again the

My Favorite Season Essay
Fall is my favorite season out of the other three sensational seasons in Minnesota. I love fall because it
happens to be my favorite season of the year. No, not volleyball or football season, but deer hunting. I
have had good years hunting, and I have had bad years hunting, but my favorite year was my second
year hunting.
November 8th, 2014. The first Saturday of the deer hunting season. Opening day. It was a 20 to 30
degree Fahrenheit day. Earlier this morning, my dad and I went out hunting hoping to get something,
but sadly I did not see anything sitting in the stand with my dad. Since we had a long and boring
morning, my dad and I decided to head back home and rest for the night shift of hunting. When we
returned home, I undressed from all my orange clothing and took a long nap. I woke up to eat lunch,
which was some warm homemade soup that my mother had made my dad and I to eat for lunch. After
lunch, we were ready to head out again. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Half of the day had passed by and it was time for round two of the opening day. I was so pumped for
that night that it was hard to stay still. When we reached to grandpa s house, we pulled out the four
wheeler again and drove it about a half a mile to our stand right in the middle of a swamp. The first
hour out in the stand was so boring and again. I was sitting there looking at the beautiful birch trees
and the tall prairie grass surrounding the stand. On the birch trees there were many antler scrapings,
which means the bucks were once here marking their territory. My deer stand is approximately 20 feet
off the ground, which gives a great view of the woods. I could see my grandpa s barn, which was
about a half a mile away, but I could not see his big teal house, since all the big trees were blocking
my view. Next to my stand about 40 feet away is an old and rotted deer stand someone put up in a tree

Japanese American Internment Camps Essay
After the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor, life in the U.S. had changed. It was the first time in a
long time that America was attacked on its homeland. This national security threat was a big shock to
the people. The Japanese had to suffer the consequences of their attack. Just as the Germans developed
concentration camps for the Jewish during World War II, the Americans set up relocation programs
better known as internment camps to keep all the Japanese. The reason the Japanese were moved into
these camps was because they were suspected of being spies. They were forced to live there for up to
four years and were not able to continue with their own lives as they were before while they were
living in these camps. Many Japanese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At Terminal Island near Los Angeles, California there were nearly 3,500 first and second generation
Japanese. The military wanted all suspicious members of this community out in 48 hours. During this
time, Dr. Yoshihiko Fujikawa described what he saw, saying he saw house wives being abused while
cars, refrigerators, furniture and the like were confiscated (23 Nishimoto). The Japanese in Hawaii
were treated differently, unlike the communities at Terminal Island and Areas 1 and 2, under General
Dellos Emmons who stated, There is no intention or desire on the part of the federal authorities to
operate mass concentration camps. No person, be he or citizen or alien, need worry, provided he is not
connected with subversive elements. While we have been subjected to a serious attack by a ruthless
and treacherous enemy, we must remember that this is America and we must do things the American
Way. We must distinguish between loyalty and disloyalty among our people (25 Nishimoto). In
internment camps cultural integrity was a problem. The Issei, or first generation Japanese who were
older, were used to being very well honored and respected by the younger generation. In internment
camps, age had no value. To a white soldier, a Japanese man was a Japo and nothing more. In
traditional Japanese culture, the elderly were very highly respected. However, at the camps their
traditional authority was stripped away and this contributed to the demoralization of the Issei (62

Mothers Beach Descriptive Essay
Mothers beach holds a dear place in my heart. It s where mothers bring their children knowing the
calm, cool waves will allow their young to experience all the joy a beach can provide. I had been there
many of times in my short but happy life. At the time I had just been faced with all the excitement that
comes with celebrating a birthday, I was now the big 5 years old. I thought I was ready to take on the
world, sadly, I was unaware of all the seemingly innocent dangers out there in the world. My family
and I were at Mothers beach trying to reminisce in all the memories we had of Long Beach. In a

It was unusual to see so many people there, but school had just gotten out for the summer and people
were ready to soak up the sun. It was hard to find a place that wasn t right next to someone, but we
eventually managed to find a good spot. We laid out our towels and got right to undressing down to
our swimsuits. We dumped out our bag full of beach supplies and my mom began to lather everyone
up with sunscreen. Me being the unluckiest person ever, am as pale as a porcelain doll and the most
likely to burn. This required me to be smothered in sunscreen even more than the rest. Now that we
had our ghostly white sheen and smelled like chemically produced summer, we were ready to begin
our beach activities. My mom being the munificent person she is, promised if we behaved, we could
get ice cream from our most beloved ice cream shop. We unanimously decided we would be on our
best behavior. We had the same order every time we went 1 cookie dough on a waffle cone, 1 mint
chocolate chip in a cup, 1 cookies and cream on a regular cone, and 1 plain vanilla also on a waffle
cone. My sisters would always tease me saying it was boring to get vanilla (even though they too
would sometimes get vanilla). My sister Shannon and I started to build sand castles while my mom
and Amanda laid out on their towels. Everytime we went to the beach, we would try our absolute
hardest to make tremendously sized sand castles. It was

Ernest Van Den Haag s In Defense Of Capital Punishment
Capital punishment has been a hot topic for quite some time now. In earlier times it was merely a way
to punish as well as an attempt to deter members of society from committing heinous crimes. In the
last century we have actively monitored the effects of capital punishment, and this has revealed the
truth. It is for these reasons capital punishment is not morally acceptable. In this paper I shall argue
that capital punishment is immoral. In Furman v. Georgia we find a landmark case in which the
legality of capital punishment is exposed. Judges Stewart, White, and Douglas found the death penalty
to be immoral given the arbitrary forces involved. ( Furman v. Georgia ) They believed this was
causing a higher number of minorities specifically blacks to be subjected to ... Show more content on

One such person is Ernest Van Den Haag the author of In Defense of Capital Punishment. He argues
there is no expressed or valid reasons for removing capital punishment in murder cases, and even
expresses his support for the arbitration used in capital punishment. (Van Den Haag) He also argues on
the basis of the 5th amendment which states nobody shall be Deprived of life, liberty, or property
without due process of law. This implying the judicial system is in no way breaching the 14th because
it to reiterates the importance of the 5th, and as long as the defendant is provided due process capital
punishment is in fact fair. (Van Den Haag) He then backs the morality factor by stating if it were
immoral the general public would be against it and we would see less and less people receiving the
death penalty yet we do not. On top of this the morality of capital punishment can be backed up by the
Utilitarian moral theory given the fact removing murderers benefits the larger group or the non
criminals and also backs up Van Den Haag s claims about the general public. Though these are solid
reasons they lack the depth of a solid

Polyvagal Theory And The Nervous System Theory
who do not have BPD. It has been found that individuals with BPD reach arousal levels much faster
than others and take longer to get back to normal levels of arousal. Individuals with BPD appear to
constantly have some type of crisis and they tend to view things in very close minded ways which can
lead to intense feelings of their emotions. DBT teaches ways to cope with this. (Grohol, 2017). There
are 4 modules used in DBT to teach the skills to reduce symptoms of BPD. The first is mindfulness
(answering the question to themselves what do I do to be mindful ), the second is interpersonal
effectiveness (how you interact with the people around you and in your personal life), the third is
distress tolerance (most therapies focus on changing distressing events whereas DBT focuses on
learning to cope with pain using coping skills) and the fourth is emotion regulation (properly
identifying emotions and changing them). The Polyvagal Theory has to do with how we understand
the nervous system, our senses, our emotions and behaviors. This theory states that the nervous system
has its own set of strategies to regulate itself and to keep us safe in the events of danger. The theory
actually boils down to the idea of safety overall. The Polyvagal Theory also references the mechanism
social engagement which is the highest strategy in this theory. This has to do with connecting the
social muscles of the face (eyes, mouth and middle ear) with the heart. This system is

Stylistic Prose Techniques In Cry, The Beloved Country By...
Stylistic prose technique 1: IMAGERY Authors who use imagery wish to give the readers a physical
feeling of literature while reading any sort of piece. It allows for the audience to connect to the
characters on a deeper level by having them experience the same feelings, smells, noises, etc, as did
the roles in the novel. Alan Paton uses a strong voice packed with imagery in his passage, For they
grow red and bare; they cannot hold the rain and mist, and the streams are dry in the kloofs. Too many
cattle feed upon the grass, and too many fires have burned it. Stand shod upon it, for it is coarse and
sharp, and the stones cut under the feet. It is not kept or guarded, or cared for, it no longer keeps men,
guards men, cares for men (Paton, 34). The overwhelming senses of touch and vision are more than
prevalent in this brief passage, with Paton perfectly conveying the atmosphere of rural South Africa in
the 1940 s. The reader gets a catholic impression of the arid climate as well as the deteriorated lands
on which it rests. By including this in his novel, Alan Paton establishes a thorough setting, one of
which the reader can fully understand for the remaining duration of Cry, The Beloved Country.
Stylistic prose technique 2: DRAMATIC IRONY In short, dramatic irony is in any given literary
scenario when future actions can be accurately anticipated by the readers but not the characters. It
often includes cliches and is used by authors wishing to give their audience insight that their
characters do not yet have. Powerful dramatic irony is demonstrated in the scene: Shall I get your
ticket for you, umfundisi? Then you need not lose your place in the line while I go to the ticket
office... As though he has suddenly though of something he left the line, and walked to the corner, but
there was no sign of the young man... Where is the ticket office my friend? You get your ticket on the
bus. There is no ticket office (Paton, 49). Alan Paton is able to show how vulnerable and naïve
Stephen Kumalo is to the big city; using something so predictable as a sly, nevertheless, predictable
con artist, he shows how foreign lies and deceit are to the pastor.
Stylistic prose technique 3: LOGOS Logos is a stylistic prose

* Oxygen saturation (SpO2) is a measurement of the percentage of hemoglobin molecules carrying a
full load of oxygen. Oxygenated hemoglobin (HbO2) absorbs more infrared light than red light, while
deoxygenated hemoglobin (Hb) absorbs more red light. By comparing the relative amounts of
different light absorbed, the oxygen saturation (SpO2) can be determined. * However, there are some
possible causes of erroneous readings: Motion artifact: Movement (shivering or tremors) or improper
fit of the sensor can cause erroneously low readings. Hypotension (due to cardiac arrhythmias, blood
loss or peripheral vascular disease) and peripheral vasoconstriction (caused by hypothermia, smoking
or sickle cell disease) can alter readings. Smoke inhalation or carbon monoxide poisoning can cause
high levels of carboxyhemoglobin and also skew pulse oximetry readings. Response delay: A
technical limitation that requires additional time to detect hypoxemia (SpO2 less than 90 percent). The
length of delay can be affected by poor sensor site perfusion and vasoactive drugs. * Sensors are sized
according to weight and it is important to select the correct size to avoid reading errors. The sensor
site should be assessed regularly for skin breakdown, cyanosis, pulse rate and temperature. * Pulse
oximetry is not recommended in the following situations:

Muddled is an ACFI2003 student and as many others has problems with several aspects of the course
including a fundamental principle, the differences in the costing systems and cost management
systems. The purpose of this essay is help Muddled understand the fundamental costing principle that
management systems should reflect the fact that different costs are relevant for different purposes, and
how this principle affects the way that job costing and process costing systems are designed. Along the
way several costing concepts will be explained and laid out for Muddled to understand in a more
simplified method. The axiom will be covered first with particular reference to the costing systems,

2.2 Job Costing System vs. Process Costing System
The main differences between a job costing system and a process costing system can be summarised
to the cost objects used, the size of the job and production, identification of the product, whether work
in progress is present at the start of the period, the method of cost accumulation used and when cost
are asserted.
2.2.1 Cost Objects
Muddled needs to understand that cost objects is something that is assigned costs and has a direct link
to those costs.
Job costing systems are used by firms who make special orders or customised products with individual
identities for each job with regards to singular contract specifications. The cost object being the
individual unit/s or product in that contract. This is due to each job using different amounts of
resources and is allocated specifically to the individual job, thus the specific job is the cost object that
has the costs directly assigned to, at the completion of the job.
Process costing systems are applied when there is a mass production of similar products, in a
continuous flow; though one or multiple departments; thus the products having no identity. The
process or department used to make these products are assigned the costs at the end of a cost period

Two State Solution Essay
The Israeli Palestinian issue has been an ongoing conflict since 1917. This conflict started right after
the Holocaust as a huge number of Jews fled to Palestine. Later on, the Israeli forces almost occupied
the whole land over the years. Currently, the Palestinians own about 11 15% of the land, while Israelis
own the rest of the land (Farah 40). As of today, there are about five million Palestinian refugees in
foreign camps and they are unable to return (Farah 40). Not only the Israeli forces occupied the land
and forcibly evicted millions of Palestinians, they also operate a two tiered system in the country that

Basically, the two state solution suggests that the land should be divided into two, an area for the
Palestinians and an area for the Israelis. The two state solution would guarantee Palestinians an
independent state and would also allow them to gain their full human rights (Francis). The two state
solution has been planned since decades but it is not being applied because it is not gaining enough
support from powerful countries such as United States (Talhami 468). Powerful countries which are
members of the United Nations, like USA, UK, China and Russia would have a huge influence on the
Israeli authorities to consider applying the two state solution. People should sign petitions in favor of
the two state solution. There is a petition called Immediate Two State Solution that could be found on
a website called moveon.org . This website could be extremely effective because the main goal of this
website is to help millions of people mobilize together to fight for and realize a more just society
where everyone can thrive, which is what exactly needed for the Palestinians. If this petition gets
signed by many people it would raise awareness to the world, and a powerful neutral side, such as the

Oral History By Lee Smith And The Poem, Fishing Among The...
As a child matures, the word lesson can hold two different connotations. One meaning denotes a
traditional portion of a school day dedicated to a specific subject, such as a biology lesson. This lesson
is based on facts that are generally gleaned from a textbook or transmitted by a teacher who has been
certified in some way. Another type of lesson is that which helps the recipient either live a life of fuller
satisfaction or gain some practical knowledge that can help others, either physically or emotionally.
This type of lesson can be passed along by anyone, regardless of age or training. However, quite often,
one associates this type of knowledge with those who have lived long enough to absorb such life
lessons. The novel, Oral History by Lee Smith and the poem, Fishing Among the Learned by Nikky
Finney take two distinct and separate forms, but each work is separated into individual sections and
focuses on an elderly female character who fulfills the role of an all knowing sage, relying on nature
and rituals to teach younger generations the importance of a type of knowledge that cannot be learned
in an academic setting.
Each of these written texts is broken into distinct sections that represent either a certain type of
knowledge or a specific character relying knowledge. Finishing Among the Learned is comprised of
three sections. The first references the speaker s childhood and introduces the grandmother who
fulfills the role of teacher in the poem. Finney writes

The magnificence of Antoni Gaudí s architecture coincided, as the result of a personal decision by the

theatres, concerts and tertulias ( social gatherings), went from being a young dandy with gourmet

Gaudí died on the 10th of June, 1926, after being knocked down by a tram while making his way, as

The Characteristics Of Animals And Environments
Rationale
Standards
SC.5.L15 asserts that Earth is a home to a great diversity of living things whose survival depends on
the changes in the environment. However, individuals of the same kind usually differ in
characteristics, and such differences give individuals an advantage to survive and reproduce in certain
environments (CPALMS, 2015).
Real Life Applications
When observing the different characteristics of animals and environments, it is possible to determine
the kind of environment that a particular animal is likely to survive better in. The knowledge about the
characteristics of animals helps in classifying animals in different environments they seem to be best
adapted to survive. It is also important how their individual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Symptoms Of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome
There are many diseases all around the world that affect our loved ones. One in particular that is
common among many hospitals is Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, also known as ARDS.
Originally it was called Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome but realized that was not accurate
because it not only affects adults but children also. ARDS is defined as the acute onset of respiratory
failure, bilateral infiltrates on chest radiograph, hypoxemia as defined by a PaO2/FiO2 ratio ≤200
mmHg, and no evidence of left atrial hypertension or a pulmonary capillary pressure (Fanelli et al.,
2013) It can also include cyanosis, tachypnea, dyspnea, reduced respiratory compliance and an arterial
blood gas showing respiratory alkalosis with evidence of hypoxemia. Out of the many pulmonary
disorders out there, ARDS is one of the most difficult diseases to manage and has a high mortality rate
that comes with it. For this condition to occur, many things have to take place in the body. First the
pulmonary capillaries and alveoli epithelial tissues become inflamed. This results in absorbency of
these layers of tissues which then leads to plasma, which is abundant in protein, to escape out of the
capillaries and into the alveolar space. After the trauma to the alveolar lining occurs, this allows fluid
into the alveoli, which then results in pulmonary edema. During this whole process damage to two
different types of cells is being done. Type I and II of the alveolar epithelial cells. Type II

It was originally against al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations with the purpose of eliminating them. This paper discusses how the Bush Administration handled the War on Terror as well as different aspects of it, including its terminology, its objectives, its military operations and criticism against it. The United States of America was deeply shocked when, on September 11, 2001, airplanes we used as missiles to destroy the Twin World Trade Towers and damage the Pentagon. Economical and geopolitical history has led to some elements of distrust, as well as extremism in both Christian and Muslim communities adding to the animosity. The War on Terror campaign has been addressed by many other names such as: World War III, Bush s War on Terror, The Long War and The Global War on Terror. It with in Camp David on September 16, 2001, that President George W. Bush used the term War on Terror. The Bush Administration elevated those three words to a national mantra that had impacted the American democracy destructively. It had impacted the American psyche as well as the United States standing in the world. • 3. Review Of The Bacchae, The Aeneid, And Book 15 Of... Within the societies of ancient Greece and Rome, there was a plethora of regimes, Caesars, and empires at the helm of everyday life. The political sphere encountered in the daily routines of ancient Greeks and Romans gave influence to the multitude of literary works produced in these societies. The works of Euripides, Virgil, and Ovid gave a vehicle for these writers to infuse commentary about the politics of the day. Politics is how groups of people organize making decisions that affect the individuals contained within said groups. The Bacchae, the Aeneid, and Book 15 of Metamorphoses all contain commentary concerning politics within their content. In Euripides the Bacchae, the city of Thebes is shown to have a system of political inheritance as Pentheus is given control over the city by his grandfather Cadmus, the founder of the city. The god Dionysus is also a grandson of Cadmus, yet is not chosen to be the heir to Thebes, which creates a rivalry between Dionysus and Pentheus. Pentheus does not allow Dionysus into the city of Thebes or give recognition to Dionysus at all. Dionysus and Pentheus both wish to establish their own political rule over the city of Thebes. Pentheus attempts to rule Thebes in an Apollonian fashion. The women brought to Thebes by Dionysus are put under arrest at the order of Pentheus, due to the drunken partying they were having due to Dionysus powers. The women s party went against the social order enforced by the city of Thebes, and Dionysus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Farnsworth was the true inventor of television in 1927. He had no idea that thirty five years later his inventions would not only be in ninety percent of Americans homes, but also strongly effect everyone that watched it. Following the introduction of television into the United States, the annual homicide rate increased by ninety three percent (Journal of the American Medical Association). The main conflict with what s being broadcast is the amount of violence being projected to the kids of America. Some people say, Its just TV and its not real others say How does my elementary age kid know it is not reality? Ted Turner CEO of Turner Network Television and Cable News Network was quoted as saying that, TV is the single most significant factor contributing to violence in America.. The number of violent acts the average American child sees on TV by the age eighteen is two hundred thousand ( Real ). • 5. An Investigation Of The Capacity And Lateral Torsional... Abstract The study includes an investigation of the stresses, deflections capacity and lateral torsional buckling behavior of regular I section steel column of jib crane subjected to a axial compressive eccentric loading. The lateral torsional buckling is the main failure mode that controls the design of slender column. Different shapes of columns are proposed in this study with different cross section, web shapes and materials. Finite element analysis and experimental study are carried out on both types (i.e. Regular and proposed column) to calculate and validate results. An optimization technique is used to optimize the solution from proposed different designs. The thickness of the web and thickness of column is constant for all specimens with length 2 to 3 m and tested for 500, 750 and 1000 Kg load lifting capacity. Structural analysis is done to examine the influence of the section dimension due to axial compressive eccentric loading on column. Using the study it is observed that not only the web thickness, but also the shape of web, angle of web and sectional cross section of steel column influences the resistance to lateral torsional buckling and bending. Keywords Slender, bending, lateral torsional buckling, sectional cross section, web shape. The larva of 1791 consisted of a white majority, while today s butterfly is flush with colors from all over the world, where diversity has catalyzed change within the society as a whole (periodic). Although Thomas Paine argued America represented a haven of concordant living amongst people of diverse backgrounds under a government promising unalienable rights, the grand change in American demographics has inevitably produced turmoil among different cultures, divided by a broad discrepancy of wealth between social classes and sweeping contrast between ideologies; America, therefore, is too young and diverse of a country where citizens have not found a common ground to stand together on (parallelism). The pollyannish goal of society is concord, the weaving of various cultures, ideas, and principles to create a harmonic, unified community. Racism is a telling example of discord in American society today as a result of change in demographics, where the chauvinist Ku Klux Klan purposefully hectors non white Christians. His goal was to just make people feel better. Like for example he made it so that people didn t have hard work . He made it in New Lanark so people would have not as long hours and the way in which people worked was less hazardous. • 8. Essay On Insanity Defense The insanity defense is the most controversial criminal defense that is used in courts (The Insanity). Ironically, it is the defense that is used the least. According to a professor of law at Santa Clara University, Professor Alexander, the plea is only used one percent of the time, and works less than half the time it is used (Steibel). In cases where it is used, it tends to get a lot of attention from the media which provokes debate from the public (The Insanity). Critics have reservations concerning the exploitation of the plea, namely that the defendants will use to get shorter sentences or to evade a guilty verdict completely (The Insanity). However, according to a study done by the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, the majority of those who are judged not guilty by reason of insanity do in fact suffer from a mental illness (The Insanity). History has shown us that we need the insanity defense because a person cannot be held responsible for their crimes if they do not have the mental capacity to understand what they have done wrong or cannot stop themselves from committing this crime, it would be unjust to punish someone who does not deserve it. The insanity defense is a plea from the defendant claiming he is not guilty as they do not have the mental capacity to appreciate what they have done wrong or comprehend the fact that they have committed a crime (Martin). Analysis Of Breaker Morant Within the film Breaker Morant, three Australian Army officers, serving in the Bushveldt Carbineers during the Second Boer War, are put on trial, for murder, in a court martial (Breaker Morant). The three men, Harry Morant, Peter Handcock, and George Witton are all accused of the murder of Boer prisoners of war. In addition, Morant and Handcock are accused of murdering a German missionary, Reverend Hesse (Breaker Morant). Their defense, Major Thomas, only had one day to prepare their trial. Lord Kitchener, who ordered the trial, did so in order to show that he is willing to judge his own soldiers harshly if they disobey the rules of war. Colonel Denny, supports this. However, there are immense complexities when it comes to charging active duty soldiers with murder during battle. In the end, the defendants are found guilty of executing the prisoners and are sentenced to death, but Witton s sentence was reduced to life in penal servitude (Breaker Morant). This case often raises a debate about whether or not the men should have been charged with murder during war time, when orders were not clearly defined. Based on Kant s Categorical Imperative ethical model, if I was acting as the fifth judge in this case, I would find the men guilty. This is because a person who utilizes the Kantian view believes that the only pure good is pure human reason without consequences. This pure human reason works without the influence of human emotions and desires. A truly good act, as defined by Kant, is performed because of an obligation to the categorical imperative. Therefore, the objectives and personal agendas of the individual performing the act must be kept separate. For this reason alone, Morant could have been found guilty. • 10. Using Technology Into An Organization Culture View According to a recent LACCD memorandum beginning 2014 all employees will have the opportunity to download their W2 forms directly from the Districts personnel page. The District anticipates that this decision will lower their cost of printing and postage. It will also enable employees to receive financial information quickly and electronically. However, one of the main drawbacks with modifying the organization procedures is that some employees might feel apprehensive to the change. The culture of an organization refers to the pattern of development reflected in a society s system of knowledge, ideology, values, laws, and day to day ritual (Morgan, 120). In the case of LACCD they must understand how the changes in procedures might alter the culture and shape the views of employees. The ability to integrate technology into an organization depends on the employee s practices, values, and beliefs. It also depends on their ability to learn how to use the technology and willingness to implement the technology. I believe that school leaders should consider integrating technology into an organization in a slow and methodical manner in order to help employees understand the new procedures and give them the opportunity to adapt. This method of integration can help organizations implement their plan and lower employee resistance. The resistance in implementing technology into an organization can significantly increase if it has the potential to impact the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They are: Bisecting K means, LSI and PLSI based clustering. 3.1 Bisecting K means The Bisecting K means is based on K means and can be run quickly for a big volume of data that have large dimensions. Thus it is appropriate for text clustering (Steinbach et al., 2000). At the beginning, all of the documents are in one partition. Then the following procedure will be repeated K 1 times to obtain K clusters. Initially the partition to be broken is selected. In the standard algorithm the partition with maximal cardinality is chosen, but in this research the one with maximal intra scatter has been selected as a low quality cluster. Intra ... PLSI defines a proper generative data representation model. For text mining purposes it maps VSM into a new latent semantic space model. In contrary to terms (words), the topics are unobservable. In PLSI model the topics (aspects) are discovered, and hidden attribute classes are assigned to them. Suppose we have n documents in the text collection, m terms and k latent class variables. Let A be the term document matrix, A(di, ti) is the frequency of term tj in document dj, where i = 1, 2, ..., n and j = 1, 2, ..., m. One can normalize A in this way: ∑A(di, ti) = 1, where i=1 to m. In PLSI, each term ti in document di is originated from a latent semantic variable class, zl (l = 1, 2, ..., k), that implies the conditional independence of ti and di, on the state of the associated latent topic variable. The joint probability of di and ti is calculated as follows: P ( d i | z l )P ( t j | zl ), (2) P( d i , t j )= P(zl) Where P(zl) denotes the probability of topic zl and probability factors P(di|zl) and P(tj|zl) denote how often document di and term tj are associated with topic variable zl, respectively. • 17. The Pros And Cons Of Forced Sterilization Forced sterilization, also called eugenic sterilization, is a procedure commonly performed on women as a way to permanently prevent that woman from having future children, and is still being practiced today in many countries around the world, including the United States. Sterilization abuse is a practice in which the woman is either unaware she is being sterilized, or she has been coerced or deceived into getting the procedure done by either being told it is a temporary or reversible procedure, or being told that by not consenting, there would be negative impacts to her immigration, housing, government benefits, or parenting.1 This method, which has been documented in the United States starting around 1907, was commonly used on poor, disadvantaged, unwed, mentally disabled women, children, and even some men, including many people within a minority group, as a way to control their fertilization and combat overpopulation. This gave the government the ability to decide who was incapable of regulating their own reproduction abilities which is what was used to justify the use of forced sterilization in these groups of people. It wasn t until the 1970 s that federal legislation passed a sterilization policy to prevent sterilization of women without their consent, but the caveat to this was those women who it applied to were those who received government assistance for medical care.2 This was their way of making an attempt to allow women to have control over their reproductive ... This particular light is made of anodized aircraft aluminum, which allows it to be both light weight and very durable. This tactical flashlight is praised for its extremely high brightness, allowing it to easily cut through even the harshest of darkness in emergency situations. This brightness is achieved through the use of numerous powerful LED lights that deliver 630 lumens of light, which is more than bright enough to blind or stun enemies if needed. Traditional batteries are the power source of choice for the Streamlight 69260, and the average battery life is about and hour and 15 minutes of continuous use. While there are many benefits to this light, you should always keep the negatives in mind when searching for the best tactical flashlight. The most common complaint is that, despite the fact that LED lights run cooler than incandescent bulbs, the light gets incredibly hot when active for more than a few minutes. In earlier times it was merely a way to punish as well as an attempt to deter members of society from committing heinous crimes. In the last century we have actively monitored the effects of capital punishment, and this has revealed the truth. It is for these reasons capital punishment is not morally acceptable. In this paper I shall argue that capital punishment is immoral. In Furman v. Georgia we find a landmark case in which the legality of capital punishment is exposed. Judges Stewart, White, and Douglas found the death penalty to be immoral given the arbitrary forces involved. ( Furman v. Georgia ) They believed this was causing a higher number of minorities specifically blacks to be subjected to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 28. Polyvagal Theory And The Nervous System Theory who do not have BPD. It has been found that individuals with BPD reach arousal levels much faster than others and take longer to get back to normal levels of arousal. Individuals with BPD appear to constantly have some type of crisis and they tend to view things in very close minded ways which can lead to intense feelings of their emotions. DBT teaches ways to cope with this. (Grohol, 2017). There are 4 modules used in DBT to teach the skills to reduce symptoms of BPD. The first is mindfulness (answering the question to themselves what do I do to be mindful ), the second is interpersonal effectiveness (how you interact with the people around you and in your personal life), the third is distress tolerance (most therapies focus on changing distressing events whereas DBT focuses on learning to cope with pain using coping skills) and the fourth is emotion regulation (properly identifying emotions and changing them). The Polyvagal Theory has to do with how we understand the nervous system, our senses, our emotions and behaviors. This theory states that the nervous system has its own set of strategies to regulate itself and to keep us safe in the events of danger. The theory actually boils down to the idea of safety overall. The Polyvagal Theory also references the mechanism social engagement which is the highest strategy in this theory. This has to do with connecting the social muscles of the face (eyes, mouth and middle ear) with the heart. This system is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Stylistic Prose Techniques In Cry, The Beloved Country By... Stylistic prose technique 1: IMAGERY Authors who use imagery wish to give the readers a physical feeling of literature while reading any sort of piece. It allows for the audience to connect to the characters on a deeper level by having them experience the same feelings, smells, noises, etc, as did the roles in the novel. Alan Paton uses a strong voice packed with imagery in his passage, For they grow red and bare; they cannot hold the rain and mist, and the streams are dry in the kloofs. Too many cattle feed upon the grass, and too many fires have burned it. Stand shod upon it, for it is coarse and sharp, and the stones cut under the feet. It is not kept or guarded, or cared for, it no longer keeps men, guards men, cares for men (Paton, 34). The overwhelming senses of touch and vision are more than prevalent in this brief passage, with Paton perfectly conveying the atmosphere of rural South Africa in the 1940 s. The reader gets a catholic impression of the arid climate as well as the deteriorated lands on which it rests. By including this in his novel, Alan Paton establishes a thorough setting, one of which the reader can fully understand for the remaining duration of Cry, The Beloved Country. Stylistic prose technique 2: DRAMATIC IRONY In short, dramatic irony is in any given literary scenario when future actions can be accurately anticipated by the readers but not the characters. It often includes cliches and is used by authors wishing to give their audience insight that their characters do not yet have. Powerful dramatic irony is demonstrated in the scene: Shall I get your ticket for you, umfundisi? Then you need not lose your place in the line while I go to the ticket office... As though he has suddenly though of something he left the line, and walked to the corner, but there was no sign of the young man... Where is the ticket office my friend? You get your ticket on the bus. There is no ticket office (Paton, 49). Alan Paton is able to show how vulnerable and naïve Stephen Kumalo is to the big city; using something so predictable as a sly, nevertheless, predictable con artist, he shows how foreign lies and deceit are to the pastor. Stylistic prose technique 3: LOGOS Logos is a stylistic prose ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... * Oxygen saturation (SpO2) is a measurement of the percentage of hemoglobin molecules carrying a full load of oxygen. Oxygenated hemoglobin (HbO2) absorbs more infrared light than red light, while deoxygenated hemoglobin (Hb) absorbs more red light. By comparing the relative amounts of different light absorbed, the oxygen saturation (SpO2) can be determined. * However, there are some possible causes of erroneous readings: Motion artifact: Movement (shivering or tremors) or improper fit of the sensor can cause erroneously low readings. Hypotension (due to cardiac arrhythmias, blood loss or peripheral vascular disease) and peripheral vasoconstriction (caused by hypothermia, smoking or sickle cell disease) can alter readings. Smoke inhalation or carbon monoxide poisoning can cause high levels of carboxyhemoglobin and also skew pulse oximetry readings. Response delay: A technical limitation that requires additional time to detect hypoxemia (SpO2 less than 90 percent). The length of delay can be affected by poor sensor site perfusion and vasoactive drugs. * Sensors are sized according to weight and it is important to select the correct size to avoid reading errors. The sensor site should be assessed regularly for skin breakdown, cyanosis, pulse rate and temperature. * Pulse oximetry is not recommended in the following situations: ... Job costing systems are used by firms who make special orders or customised products with individual identities for each job with regards to singular contract specifications. The cost object being the individual unit/s or product in that contract. This is due to each job using different amounts of resources and is allocated specifically to the individual job, thus the specific job is the cost object that has the costs directly assigned to, at the completion of the job. Process costing systems are applied when there is a mass production of similar products, in a continuous flow; though one or multiple departments; thus the products having no identity. • 34. Two State Solution Essay The Israeli Palestinian issue has been an ongoing conflict since 1917. This conflict started right after the Holocaust as a huge number of Jews fled to Palestine. Later on, the Israeli forces almost occupied the whole land over the years. Currently, the Palestinians own about 11 15% of the land, while Israelis own the rest of the land (Farah 40). As of today, there are about five million Palestinian refugees in foreign camps and they are unable to return (Farah 40). The two state solution would guarantee Palestinians an independent state and would also allow them to gain their full human rights (Francis). The two state solution has been planned since decades but it is not being applied because it is not gaining enough support from powerful countries such as United States (Talhami 468). Powerful countries which are members of the United Nations, like USA, UK, China and Russia would have a huge influence on the Israeli authorities to consider applying the two state solution. People should sign petitions in favor of the two state solution. There is a petition called Immediate Two State Solution that could be found on a website called moveon.org . This website could be extremely effective because the main goal of this website is to help millions of people mobilize together to fight for and realize a more just society where everyone can thrive, which is what exactly needed for the Palestinians. • 35. Oral History By Lee Smith And The Poem, Fishing Among The... As a child matures, the word lesson can hold two different connotations. One meaning denotes a traditional portion of a school day dedicated to a specific subject, such as a biology lesson. This lesson is based on facts that are generally gleaned from a textbook or transmitted by a teacher who has been certified in some way. Another type of lesson is that which helps the recipient either live a life of fuller satisfaction or gain some practical knowledge that can help others, either physically or emotionally. This type of lesson can be passed along by anyone, regardless of age or training. However, quite often, one associates this type of knowledge with those who have lived long enough to absorb such life lessons. The novel, Oral History by Lee Smith and the poem, Fishing Among the Learned by Nikky Finney take two distinct and separate forms, but each work is separated into individual sections and focuses on an elderly female character who fulfills the role of an all knowing sage, relying on nature and rituals to teach younger generations the importance of a type of knowledge that cannot be learned in an academic setting. Each of these written texts is broken into distinct sections that represent either a certain type of knowledge or a specific character relying knowledge. Finishing Among the Learned is comprised of three sections. The first references the speaker s childhood and introduces the grandmother who fulfills the role of teacher in the poem. Finney writes ... The work of Gaudí is remarkable for its range of forms, textures, polychromy and for the free, expressive way in which these elements of his art seem to be composed. The magnificence of Antoni Gaudí s architecture coincided, as the result of a personal decision by the architect, with a progressive withdrawal by the man himself. Gaudí died on the 10th of June, 1926, after being knocked down by a tram while making his way, as he did every evening to the Sagrada Família from the Church of Sant Felip Neri. However, individuals of the same kind usually differ in characteristics, and such differences give individuals an advantage to survive and reproduce in certain environments (CPALMS, 2015). Real Life Applications When observing the different characteristics of animals and environments, it is possible to determine the kind of environment that a particular animal is likely to survive better in. • 40. Symptoms Of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome There are many diseases all around the world that affect our loved ones. One in particular that is common among many hospitals is Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, also known as ARDS. Originally it was called Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome but realized that was not accurate because it not only affects adults but children also. ARDS is defined as the acute onset of respiratory failure, bilateral infiltrates on chest radiograph, hypoxemia as defined by a PaO2/FiO2 ratio ≤200 mmHg, and no evidence of left atrial hypertension or a pulmonary capillary pressure (Fanelli et al., 2013) It can also include cyanosis, tachypnea, dyspnea, reduced respiratory compliance and an arterial blood gas showing respiratory alkalosis with evidence of hypoxemia. Out of the many pulmonary disorders out there, ARDS is one of the most difficult diseases to manage and has a high mortality rate that comes with it. For this condition to occur, many things have to take place in the body. First the pulmonary capillaries and alveoli epithelial tissues become inflamed. This results in absorbency of these layers of tissues which then leads to plasma, which is abundant in protein, to escape out of the capillaries and into the alveolar space. After the trauma to the alveolar lining occurs, this allows fluid into the alveoli, which then results in pulmonary edema. During this whole process damage to two different types of cells is being done. Type I and II of the alveolar epithelial cells. Type II ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
