Teamwork Reflection
For our teamwork presentation this week, diving into the concept of teamwork and how to build
and collaborate as an efficient team, we found a different sense of unity and collaboration that we
were unaware of before the preparation for our presentation. For our team s main topics, we
covered the differences between a teamand a group, and the vague similarities between the two.
From the textbook comparisons, we consider ourselves a team rather than a group of people
because of our common goals before our presentation date. We were all working together to
collaborate and got our ideas across to the class to present a topic that is both interesting and
informative to our fellow classmates. A team is described as a group of people that all work
towards a common goal and have objectives to work towards together, rather than individuals
coming together to perform and complete their individual goals. The roles that the members of
our team performed were a complete collaboration of ideas and thoughts. We spoke together and
did not believe that there was any set person that performed more or less than others within the
group. We each put our thoughts together and created a lesson plan for the class and broke into
where we felt each of our strengths were for the lesson plan of our presentation. Jordan introduced
the chapter and how it was relevant to the class, as well as concluded the presentation. Alexa
brought her teaching skills to light by explaining the activitythrough our lesson plan and assigned
groups to go to their allotted location around the room. Following that, Nhi, Meredith and Indrit
provided examples of their knowledge for our fellow peers and giving them a better understanding
of the curriculum in the textbook and how we chose to relate it to our activity in the classroom. All
in all, we performed as a team and built our lesson plan based on our strengths and weaknesses as a
collaborating machine in our communication class. The norms that were established even before
our group began, was to ensure that we were all timely about communicating with one another and
to make ourselves available to give us enough time to complete the presentation in a timely manner.
Other norms include constantly being

Judgment Model Of Cognitive Distortions
The Judgement Model of Cognitive Distortions explains crime through cognitive distortions. It
includes three types of judgments or acts of reasoning. These are beliefs, values, and actions.
Beliefs are statements about the nature of the self and the world held by individuals, values are
experiences or attributes that are deemed to be of worth and which motivate an individual s actions
and actions are the product of beliefs and values. (Ward, Gannon and Keown, 2006, pg.325) The
Judgement Model of Cognitive Distortions states that an offender s distorted beliefs about himself
and the world give rise to offense friendly thoughts known as cognitive distortions and these
thoughts enable the offender to commit a crime. He later uses the cognitive... Show more content on

(Ward and Siegert, 2002, pg.331) The model states that there are four pathways prevalent in sexual
offenders that result in them committing an offense. These pathways are intimacy deficits, deviant
sex scripts, emotional dysregulation, and cognitive distortions. The four pathways interact to cause
the crime; however, they have their own primary causal mechanisms. (Ward and Siegert, 2002,
pg.335) The first pathway, intimacy deficits, is formed by insecure attachment and an inability of
the offenders to establish meaningful relationships with adults. The offenders who associate with
this pathway offend at specific times and often substitute a child in place of an adult for their
actions. Offenders make an inappropriate choice of a sexual partner because of their insecure
attachment which prevents them from forming deeper relationships with adults. This inability
enables the offenders to substitute an adult with a child and encourages them to develop adult like
relationships with children. The second pathway that leads to a sexual offence is deviant sexual
scripts. A sexual script is a mental representation individuals acquire during the course of their
development that facilitate the interpretation of intimate encounters and guide subsequent sexual
behaviours. (Ward and Siegert, 2002, pg.332) A

The Floating Egg Fill In Regular Tap Water
The Floating Egg
Eggs sink in regular tap water, but creating a saltwater solution... that s an egg citingly different

We ve shown you how different sodas will either sink or swim in plain tap water, but what s the

as table salt, can drastically alter what happens to eggs in water.

Cariboo Gold Rush Research Paper
The Cariboo Gold Rush took place between 1860 1863 in the Cariboo Mountain region. The
Cariboo Gold Rush began when people from The Fraser River Gold Rush saw gold in the
Horsefly River. After the news spread of the gold near Barkerville, gold seekers were attracted and
they came for the gold. The promising discoveries of gold were made at Williams, Lightning and
Lowhee creeks. Barkerville, Camerontown, and Richfield were established 125 kilometers
southeast of Prince George. Barkerville is the only one of the three administrative towns to outlast
the miningboom days. Barkerville deposits were worked from 1864 to the 1930s which required
complex and expensive technology to remove the gold. The gold production in the Cariboo s worth

The British Of The Slave Trade
The attempt to end the slave trade brought the British into conflict with elite African slave traders.
The British anticipated conflict therefore their efforts to abolish the slave trade in the city of Lagos
are minimal. The British instead used features of domestic slavery to justify their approach to it,
and created policies. Rather, the British used the anti slaverymovement to have an informal control
the city of Lagos. For the simple fact that the city of Lagos was an economic center in the Western
Coast of Africa. As well as the British thought that with the abolishment of the slave trade would
allow for Africans to have better access to British goods. It reveals that the British wanted Africans
to buy British goods that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Lorelai Victoria Gilmore
Prenatal/Perinatal Development
It s a girl! Lorelai Victoria Gilmore was born on April 26, 1968 with no known birth defects to
Emily and Richard Gilmore. She got an APGAR rating of one for appearance, two for pulse, two
for grimace, a one for activity, and a two for respiration. Her mothers choose to breast feed her
because breast milk is almost always the best food (lecture slides). She used disposable diapers
because they are easier and Lorelai would just ruin the reusable ones anyway like she ruined her
pretty white dress with twelve petticoats when she spilled grape juice on it during her first birthday
pictures. She slept in a crib because it reduces the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)

She does not have any known genetic disorders that would affect her progress in school. Lorelai
has been acting differently lately; one day she refuses to go to school and Emily demands to
know why she does not want to go to school, pestering her until Lorelai spills that she is being
bullied at school by a peer so Emily speaks with the bully s parents and uses her connections to
the principle s wife to assure that Lorelai will be protected from the bully. She fails to address
Lorelais emotional needs though since bullying can lead to depression and suicidal thoughts.
She also prompts the bully to transition from blatant sexual comments and gestures to using
relational aggression to isolate Lorelai and try to make her peers ignore her (Ludden, 2015). This
attempt is not very successful because, aside from the bully and his immediate clique, Lorelai s
wit and gregariousness makes her popular among her peers. Emily gets a call from the neighbor
that Lorelai threw a rock through their window so she politely tells the neighbor that she will pay
for the window and invites the neighbor to dinner that night where Lorelai is made to formally
apologize. Lorelai is

Essay On Francisco Goya
Francisco Goya is one of the most remarkable artists of the eighteenth century. Born in the village
of Fuendetodos in Spain, Goya grew up to become an inspirational painter after pursuing his
studies in art. Goya began working for the Spanish royal court and created several works that
were a criticism to the political and social problems of the contemporary era. He won several
commissions from the royal court after establishing his esteem as a portrait artist. During the period
of enlightenment, the artistic works of Goya were prominent throughout Spain. Goya introduced
royal workshops, which spanned over four monarchies. He painted several cartoons and haunting
scenes for the royal palaces. Goya s tapestries glorify the leisure activities of the young, rich and
poor. His etchings are a resemblance of the royal elite class. Most of Goya s paintings capture the
sensitivity of artistic techniques through brushstrokes. Some of Goya s artistic works introduce to
the audience, a world of ghosts, witches and other creatures, which invade the mind and include
nightmarish visions.

visually striking by capturing the excitement of the event. The painting was a potent symbol of
the struggle for liberty. Painted in the backdrop of cannon smoke, the personification of the
painting is a combination of both real and ideal. In Liberty Leading the People, the woman
wears a red cap on her head, which symbolizes freedom. The red cap was a symbol of the first
French revolution, which was an emblem of freed slaves. The bare breasted woman holds a

Tactical Police Analysis
I think the image portrayed by tactical police units has helped the police relations goal. Tactical
police officers are equipped to handle very dangerous situations on a regular basis. Every time
you think about an S.W.A.T team you think of a heavily armed, highly trained officers responding
in a very aggressive matter. Tactical based teams are always offensive minded. They want to
neutralize the situation as quickly and efficiently as possible. When people see a swat team or
tactical team on the news executing a search warrant to catch wanted criminals, drug dealers, and
potential terrorists you quickly notice that tactical teams will not hesitate to break down a door and
shoot a dangerous suspect. as stated Tactical officers transform

California Dreams
A Place, a People, a Dream: The Californian Dream Paradoxes The Californian Dream can be
regarded as one of the most paradoxical concept in history. The story and paradoxes written by
Rawls is strongly supported by the anonymous accounts in many scenarios. Although the
anonymous accounts limit itself to only the gold rush era, it still depicts some of the things
mentioned in the story written by Rawls. To the weather of California, the reality of the gold rush,
and the population growth of California, Both stories compliment each other as they both
accurately describe the lifestyle of California in the 1850 s and beyond. Growth as a situation

These two situations strongly relate to each other, how people of all sorts of background come
to California in hopes of making a better life, but also many failed dreams once they see how
hard it is. Even though the two accounts and stories aren t on the same timeframe, they still
strongly support each other in different contexts. The paradox of the California Dream is very
evident in both stories, how getting rich through the gold rush was actually very hard due to the
physical work, or how the growth of population and economy of California seemed positive, was
also deemed negative. With these facts and examples through research and real accounts, the
Californian Dream could easily be regarded as an extremely paradoxical concept.

On 010/05/2016, I, Chad Agnew, was working as a patrol officer for the Wichita State University
Police Department, in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas. At approximately1415 hours,
officers were dispatched to the Rhatigan Student Center for a suspicious character. Dispatch
notified all officers that they were still gathering more information at the time but the suspicious
character was a black male with crutches. They also said the subject was yelling someone had a
gun. I notified dispatch that Officer Albert and I were out at the RSC. I parked our patrol car on
the north side of the RSC and entered the north door. I heard Officer Smith on the radio say he
was out with the subject near the Credit Union. I observed from across the RSC Officer J. Smith

closer, I could see the black male with both of his hands up in the air and he was getting down
on both of his knees. When I got to the Credit Union, I saw a set of crutches and a black bag
laying on the floor. I told Officer Albert to stay here with these items as I continued to go behind
the black male. Officer Faison kept trying to talk to the subject but he was clearly ignoring him.

Maggie A Girl Of The Streets Chapter Summary
In the Novel Maggie: A Girl of the Streets was a very dramatic story that contain lots of anger,
abuse, emotional, and naГЇve scenes. This story took place in New York in the bad side of town
where most of the kids spent their days in the streets or known to them as the rum ally. This
story showed a lot of reality of everyday life of people living in poverty. It shows a great example
of people s decisions affecting their life s. As seen in the story Maggie the main character her
decisions impacted her life. I believe that if things would have different Maggie could have had a
fair shot in life. Since the beginning of the book it starts off with her brother fighting in the streets,
her father drunk wondering through the streets as well as she was in the street with her brother.
When Maggie sees her brother, all beat up she tries to talk to him but makes him upset. Jimmie
threatens her that he was going to hit her if she did not shut up and as Maggie continued to talk he
smacked her. Their father witnessed it and just told him to stop and leave her in the street. if the
father acted different towards her brother beating Maggie things would have been different. As a
father, how can he just say leave your sister alone in the street. it showed that he did not care about
his kids. When they got home and their parents got in an argument leaving the baby there to witness
everything happen it showed how they were abusive towards each other it taught their kids to learn

The Significance of Liberal Reforms between 1906-1910 Essay
The Significance of Liberal Reforms between 1906 1910 After the Liberal government came
into power due to a landslide victory. When they came to power the Liberals knew there was
great need for reform. They knew this change was really required to help and improve Britain
and as a whole, make it a better country. There were many parts of Britain that were in very poor
condition (in poverty). To eliminate this factor that had plagued Britain the Liberals introduced
many reforms between 1906 1910. Each of these had specific aims. They were mainly directing
these towards the working class people. One of the crucial targets of the reforms was the children
of Britain. They knew that the children... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This meant that they were coming out harder criminals than when they went in. As the liberals
had become aware of this they set up Borstals where only children were allowed to be
imprisoned. Within these Borstals the children were educated. The intention of this was that
these children would grow up as respectable adults with high morals. Out of the reforms
introduced for children this seemed to deem the most successful, even though children were still
put into adult prisons when the Borstals become to full (again the government didn t have
enough money to introduced many of these Borstals). The Liberals knew it was not just the
children who needed aid in Britain. It was also people too old to work. The elderly. Booth and
Rowntree s survey into poverty revealed that the majority of the elderly were being forced to
work in workhouses when it was no longer possible for them to work for any one else. In 1908
the Old Age Pensions Act was introduced. This had great significance as it freed the pensioners
from the fear of the workhouse. Once more as the government were struggling to find enough
money to properly fund this, it was a mere 5 shillings that was supplied to only pensioners over
70. These five shillings were only just enough to survive and as pensioners were only given to
people over 70, there were be many pensioners that had to work when almost physically

Piaget Vs Vygotsky
From the beginning of time and still to present day, people have always been curious as to how we
develop from little tiny helpless humans into the fully functioning members of society. Two
psychologists, Piaget and Vygotsky, developed different theories about cognitive and language
development. Piaget s theory says that children try to understand the world around them in
different phases as they grow. As children, they want to make sense of everything that is going on
around them. Piaget says that there are four stages of cognitive development that we go through as
we age; sensory motor period, pre operational period, concrete operational period, and finally the
formal operational theory. According to Piaget, we should be through all of these... Show more

The first one being that his research was biased. He only used a very small sample of children to
complete the study, and he also used his own kids in his experiments (Cherry, 2017). Piaget also
did not take into account what children are capable of. He often asked the children too difficult
of questions and/or made them very confusing for children to understand. Piaget also did not
realize that many people never reach the final stage (formal operational period), he stated that we
should all reach that stage between age 11 and adulthood (Kail, 2016). He also thought that the
social environment and culture that someone is raised in did not affect the cognitive and language
development of a child, this is a big weakness since he did not explore all options for why we
develop the way we do. Piaget was also flawed in thinking that language comes after thought, when
most other psychologists think development is a combination of both. Piaget said that developing
thought was more important than developing language, which caused his findings to be skewed
and biased (McLeod,

Mandatory Military Draft
n some countries, citizens are required to serve in the military for a year or more. The United

Chinese Footbinding Essay
Chinese Footbinding
In addressing the subject of footbinding, one primary difficulty becomes apparent that much
remains within the realm of the unknowable. Any factual knowledge about the practice may only
be drawn from 19th and 20th century writings, drawings or photographs. In addition, many of these
documents represent a distinctly Western point of view, as they are primarily composed of
missionary accounts and the literature of the various anti footbinding societies.[1] The historical
origins of footbinding are frustratingly vague, although brief textual references suggest that small
feet for women were preferred as early as the Han dynasty. The first documented reference to the
actual binding of a foot is from the court of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It gradually became the prevailing style and golden lotus became a synonym for bound feet.[5]
One notable personality who aided in the spread of footbinding was the famed writer and scholar
Zhu Xi (1130 1200 A.D.), whose commentaries on the Confucian classics would form the canon of
Neo Confucianism that would dominate Chinese intellectual and philosophical life for six
subsequent centuries. An ardent advocate of footbinding, he introduced the practice into southern
Fuijan in order to spread Chinese culture and teach proper relations between men and women,
greatly influencing other writers who mention the practice as if it were normal.[6]
Another factor contributing to the difficulty in assigning a point of time and origin to the practice
is that the spread of footbinding was neither standardized in style nor universal in practice.[7] With
local variations in method of binding, desired contours, age of initiation, paraphernalia, rituals (both
public and private), shoe patterns and terminologies, it became impossible for a master narrative to
emerge. Although some girls had their feet bound in the extreme and painful golden lotus style,
others had their feet bound in less contorted manners that merely kept the toes compressed or
limited the growth of the foot without breaking any bones.[8] In some areas and among some
social groups, such as the Hakka in southern China, women s feet were generally not bound and
even among the imperial courts of

Bilateral agreements with 28 countries and Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) of the EU
are key reasons for Bangladesh RMG products having access to global markets (Board of
Investment Bangladesh, 2012).
Best alternative
The best alternative would be improve the infrastructure, and increase the price of exporting, but
still lower than any other country. Bangladesh would make a larger profit and could put more
money on fixed and creating the ports and roads which in return will make it easier for the buying
countries. If the prices continue to stay low, the country may not have enough money for
infrastructure. Bangladesh would have more money to help with the electricity outages which can
also help business buy producing more and exporting more.
Implementation plan The implementation would be analyzing the competitions textile export
prices, and then increase the price to keep it right below the competition. This will allow
Bangladesh to gain more profit and place that into infrastructure. They would also want to focus on
the electricity so labor improves and more textiles can be made. This plan will allow for easier
flowing importing and most importantly exporting. This will also create a better working
environment in the textile mills and will create more production.

industries which engage in trade. For the purpose of exploration, the meaning of commodity shall
be narrowed down to an economic good, that is subject to ready exchange or exploitation within a
market .
A trend that is developing in entertainment media today is the objectification of women in society.
Specifically in indian movies, music videos, music, and television, there is strong focus on women
as sexual objects rather than women. This is detrimental to society because the media is creating
social stereotypes for both men and women that can result in unhealthy social and physical habits.
The issue is especially prevalent because the more the media uses sexual content regarding women,
the more viewers seem to buy into them. Thus, the media is able to shape the culture s sense of
dating, romance, sex, and what is ideal within society. The sexual attitudes of society are shaped
and that has effects that can affect all demographics among society.
Advertising and media images that encourage girls to focus on looks and sexuality are harmful to
their emotional and physical health. Women develop the ideal of seeing their bodies as not their
personal self, but as sexual objects. That unhealthy train of thought can develop into recurring
problems such as eating disorders, low self esteem, and

Preventing Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a medical condition that causes the bones to become delicate and breakable due
to a loss of tissue, usually caused by hormonal changes and even a deficiency of calcium, which
includes vitamin D. If upon a minor fall, or lifting an object the wrong way you may experience a
broken bone, that could be a sign of osteoporosis. Although it is true that while people age, they
lose bonedensity, it is not true that everyone will for sure get Osteoporosis. There is no known cure
yet for Osteoporosis, however, there are several treatment plans available. The most important part
of dealing with Osteoporosis is knowing proper prevention, providing your body with the right
nutrients to maintain healthy bones, and knowing the treatments accessible to you if you happen to
acquire the disease.
In preventing Osteoporosis you must increase bone density as much as you can while you re young
and continue so as the years progress. Protecting your bones starting in childhood has proven to
increase the strength of the bone at later ages. By thirty one should reach the maximum bone

of obtaining Osteoporosis at a later age so it is very important that I get all the bone density I
can now, and keep it there, so when i m older I won t have to worry about fragile broken bones.
The article I chose also goes into detail about prevention, what goes on once you get it and several

The Effects Of Physical Therapy On Health Care Delivery...
A prevention program can be described as an arrangement of activities that attempt to alter a
situation from happening, reduce problems, or promote a certain outcome. Prevention programs are
available throughout the world covering many different aspects present in today s issues. Physical
therapy services have a direct connection to preventionprograms in that a therapist makes an effort
to treat a condition in order for it to be avoided, reduced, or changed if at all possible whether it is
an injury or infection. As stated by the Alabama Physical TherapyAssociation (APTA), Physical
therapists can provide valuable contributions to the transformation of the health care delivery
system by improving health care quality and outcomes through the prevention, treatment, and
management of impairments and health care needs of patients, (Health Care 2). Preventative
actions initiate restoration and achievement of a patient s functional ability, and decreases
dependency and impairments due to an illnessor disease. Preventing an illness from progressing at
a rapid rate, and educating the patient to better adapt to surroundings are also services provided.
Physical therapy prevention services can be categorized by being primary, secondary, or tertiary.
Primary prevention can be classified as a physical therapist recognizing potential risk factors in a
given population or age group, and providing therapeutic services to decrease the specific risk from

Magic Realism In Mahabharat The Palace Of Illusions
INTRODUCTION
The Indian classical epic Mahabharata has been popular worldwide since its translation to English.
Earlier than that as well, the tales of the great war, moral values that the text imparted and stories of
the unmatched warrior princes were narrated by the natives throughout the country, passed down
through generations. There has been many different versions of the text, oral as well as written, that
produced varied ideas and perspective regarding the story of ancient Indian royalty that the text
narrates.
Mahabharata, the great Indian classical epic had been written long ago, but its story plot and
characters are as fresh as the present generation. The struggle, fight, relationships, political
competence are all similar to the contemporary times of all readers. Yet the ancient text maintains
its uniqueness that cannot be ignored in any reinterpretation. Similarly, the author of the novel The
Palace of Illusions also could not ignore the magnificent magical and extraordinary elements that
defines the uniqueness of the ancient text and without which the story would lose its essence as
well as will be incomplete.

Essay On Women Empowerment
JUDICIAL ACTIVISM and EMPOWERMENT OF INDIAN WOMEN TOWARDS EQUALITY
WOMEN S DEVELOPMENT HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Women s empowerment is a noted concept in social change, which is much discussed, often elusive
and sometimes abused. Yet in the context of development, women s leadership and agency in social
change have been levers for women s empowerment within communities. Women have sought to
fight entrenched interests for community benefits, and have garnered through their collective
strength, a new identity. Women s rights around the world are an important indicator to understand
global well being.
Creating the environment which imparts equal status to women in family, society and country is

Both these movements raised the question of equal status of women. The issues which attracted the
attention of the nineteenth century social reformers were sati, ill treatment of widows, the ban on
widow remarriage, polygamy, child marriage, denial of property rights and education to women.
The Reformers thought that by giving women access to education and by enacting progressive
legislation social change could be initiated.
Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, M.G. Ranade, Mahatma Phule, Lokhitwadi,
Aurobindo and others from all parts of the country raised their voice against the unjust practices
while revivalists like Dayamanda saraswati, swami Vivekananda and Annie Besant Believed in
receiving the old Vedic society presumed to be ideal for women.[4] Mahatma Gandhiji too,
vehemently criticized the custom of child marriage, prohibition of widow remarriage, temple
prostitution and the custom of purdah. The nationalist movements not only draw a large number of
women to political activity but also generated strength and confidence among women which helped
them to organize and fight for their cause. The formation of the All IndiaWomen s Conference in
1927 was a crucial event in women s march towards equality. Many laws were enacted which tried
to eradicate certain social evils. These included an Act legalizing remarriage of widows, child

Hw Chapter4 Essay
5.4. You have found three investment choices for a one year deposit: 10% APR
Compounded monthly, 10% APR compounded annually, and 9% APR compounded daily.
Compute the EAR for each investment choice. (Assume that there are 365 days in the year.)
Sol:
1+EAR= (1+r/k)k
So, for 10% APR compounded monthly, the EAR is 1+EAR= (1+0.1/12)12 = 1.10471
= gt; EAR= 10.47%
For 10% compounded annually, the EAR is
1+EAR= (1+0.1)=1.1 * EAR= 10% (remains the same).
For 9% compounded daily
1+EAR= (1+0.09/365)365 = 1.09416 * EAR= 9.4%
5 8. You can earn $50 in intereston a $1000 deposit for eight months. If the EAR is the same

5 28. Consider a project that requires an initial investment of $100,000 and will produce a single
cash flow of $150,000 in five years.
a. What is the NPV of this project if the five year interest rate is 5% (EAR)?
b. What is the NPV of this project if the five year interest rate is 10% (EAR)?
c. What is the highest five year interest rate such that this project is still profitable?
Sol:
a. NPV = 100,000 + 150,000 / 1.055 = $17,529.
b. NPV = 100,000 + 150,000 / 1.105 = $6862.
Here we need to calculate the IRR.
Therefore,
IRR = (150,000 / 100,000)1/5 1 = 8.45%.

the economy to be in the midst of a recession, causing the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates
drastically and the one year interest rate to fall to 2%. The one year interest rate will then rise to
3% the following year, and continue to rise by 1% per year until it returns to 6%, where it will

The Process Of Learning How I Read And Write
The process of learning how to read and write
Speaking and expressing oneselves in verbal communication, is not an activity as simple as we
think it might be. In fact speaking takes to the brain a noticeable quantity of effort to be completed
every time we feel the necessity or instinct to communicate with worlds with an other human
beings. The brain is one of the most powerful Central Processing unit existing in the world. Reading
and writing than are activities vay more tiresome and articulated compared to the mere capacity of
speaking. Not for a coincidence a person at first learn how to speak, than write, and at the end to
read. Generally childrens learn those skills during the first years of elementary school and they keep
working and evolving them during the course of their educational life. Although this is a reality that
is completely distant to the one associated to the way in which Alexie, Malcom X, and Douglass
achieved their competence in literacy. The unconventional method through which they learned the
art of reading and writing was a way more extreme and complex path from the one that anyone else
at their age would have had.
The three authors mentioned above, all comes from disadvantaged backgrounds that prevented
them to get their instruction and found shelter in books stories when they were alone. They all
were all men who truly loved to read. Sherman Alexie and Malcolm X, both started to understand

The Solitude of Latin America
Gabriel Garcia Marquez was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1982, fifteen years after the
publication of his book One Hundred Years of Solitude. His speech accepting the Nobel Prize, lived
up to his stature; a brilliant author and narrator seamlessnessly blending the real with the unreal, the
ordinary and the magical. The speech offers glimpses into Marquez s thoughts pertaining to Latin
America, to his childhood and to humanity as a whole.
Marquez s speech, akin to all his other works is embedded in his native land of Latin America,
following the vicissitudes of life amongst the rampant corruption, destruction and anarchism. The
speech at its core is a political statement to the Europeans and the ... Show more content on

The novel explores the issue of timelessness or eternity even within the framework of mortal
existence. A major trope with which it accomplishes this task is the alchemist s laboratory in the
Buendia family home. It is a place where the male Buendia characters can indulge their will to
solitude, whether through attempts to deconstruct the world with reason as in the case of Jose
Arcadio BuendГa, or by the endless creation and destruction of golden fish as in the case of his son
Colonel Aureliano Buendia. Furthermore, a sense of inevitability prevails throughout the text. This
is a feeling that regardless of what way one looks at time, its encompassing nature is the one truthful
admission.
Latin America at the current juncture is akin to a blind man left to find his way across the desert.
The quest for a national identity is bloody, full of ups and downs. Every country has its own unique
epoch through history that marks its identity; Latin America is yet to come across one. Marquez s
chief complaint is the apathy exhibited by the west towards steps taken by Latin America to render
plausible its own social aims. Agreed Latin America abounds with madness and obstinacy yet the
only sentiment echoed by the west has been that of sympathy and not support. This is the crux of
the Latin American Solitude, a solitude both geographic and ideological in its nature. Solitude is
the central theme of the novel and expressions through

After conquering Media, Babylonia, and Egypt, for instance, Cyrus The Great and Cambyses II
would make a personal union with the peoples of these countries. They would crown themselves
according to the local customs, and created normal conditions for the development of the economy
and transit trade. They retained, with moderate altercations, the local political structures in these
countries, and offered the peoples a large degree of local self government. These first two kings
proved to have not created a very well structured empire, however, which led to the multiple
uprisings from 523 521 BCE. (Gershevitch 1985, 502 504) From there, Darius I, the King who
proceeded Cambyses II, found a more stable balance by putting in place a more organized
administrative system that would not undergo any fundamental changes up until the demise of the
Achaemenid Empire.
The system that Darius I put in place split the empire up into roughly twenty satrapies that would
be governed by satraps. The satraps were responsible for collecting the annual tribute set by the
king, drafting people to the army, and maintaining justice and security within their satrapy. The
satraps would also have an armed force at their disposal to keep everybody within their satrapy in

The Black Cat And Tell Tale Heart
H.P. Lovecraft wrote a book called Supernatural Horror in Literature. In the book he wrote a
literary analysis about Poe s writing he says, Like most fantasists, Poe excels in incidents and
broad narrative. I agree with what Lovecraft has to say about Poe s protagonist. In each of his
stories like The Black Cat and Tell Tale Heart both of these stories have such an amazing horror
into them but when you start reading more about the main characters you realize that all his
main characters always do make the same decisions including The Raven . Starting off With Tell
Tale Heart, in the beginning, the narrator of the story is shown as a caring person who allowed
the old man to leave with him and help the old men with what he needed. But later on in the
story, he starts getting very paranoid he says, But why WILL you say that I am mad? The

that he is talking about was nervousness his nervousness makes him start to become paranoid of

and plan the old man s death. This led to Poe s character turning mad which led to him planning

Physical Descriptions Of The Unicorns
There are many fantastic creatures known to man. They come in all shapes, sizes, and color, and
have a wide array of abilities. Standing majestically among these fantastic creatures is the unicorn.
The unicorn is a unique magical creature, because while many magical creatures have not been
able to maintain their popularity and overall depiction through time periods and across various
cultures, the unicorn has; despite its diverse physical descriptions. The diverse physical
descriptions of the unicorn can be seen in two panels of the The Garden of Earthly Delights
(Hieronymous Bosch). Three unicorns appear on the left panel of the painting. One is a white
unicorn that has a horse s body, cloven feet, and a straight horn with spiral twistings; next to the
white unicorn is a brownish, deerlike unicorn with a curved horn...; and [then] there is a water
unicorn swimming in a pool... with a fish s body, a horselike head, and a goatlike beard (South...

However, no matter how the unicorn is described to look, its character is always depicted as
benevolent, gentle, and kind. The unicorn is still known by these qualities in today s world. The
unicorn s prevalence in society today is another reason why the creature is so unique. Due to past
and current advancements in science and technology, many magical creatures have lost their
popularity because people do not believe in their existence. So why do people still struggle to
deny the unicorn s existence? Why do people still use the unicorn as a symbol for pure and good
characteristics? Some say it s the creature s ties to religion (Sax 2013) while others believe it is the
large impact of the creature on various societies throughout history (Nigg 1995). Regardless of the
reason, the unicorn s ability to transcend the limitations of time, geography, and culture truly make
it a supernatural

Regeneration by Pat Barker Essay
Regeneration by Pat Barker The war in Regeneration is explored back home . Rather than
portraying the war in terms of fighting on the frontline in the battlefields of France, Barker
demonstrates the effects on the soldiers back home , both physically and mentally. The soldiers
are those who have been injured, shell shocked, or had a breakdown and are being treated with
the intention of sending those who are able, back to France or at least resuming some kind of war
duties. The war is explored, essentially in terms of the psychological effects of those who fought it.
The physical traumas and horrific injuries suffered are widely known. However the mental traumas
are probably less known and not fully understand. It is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The First World War is sometimes described as the gentleman s war. All those giving orders and
directing combat were high ranking officers who often did not set foot on the battlefield. Soldiers
were encouraged to fight with honour and behave as gentlemen. These often resulted in more
psychological torment. Men back home e.g. Yealland, the unsympathetic, practically abusive
doctor clearly had no understanding at all of the soldiers experiences, tormenting those who did
not want to go back, who had mental breakdown and suffered with extreme guilt complexes
because of the enormous pressure they were under. It was difficult for women, for the men too
old to fight and the boys to young but so much wanting to fight, to understand exactly what the
war meant and what it was like because they hadn t experienced. This is why I find Barker s book
so powerful, because she captures the traumas and the devastating effects of fighting without so
much as one chapter being set in France. Though it may seem detached to some, the book
encapsulates the effects of the war but back at home, making them all the more painful and real,
because the most painful part of these effects is coping with them whilst trying to adjust to life and
people back home. Barker explores the confused and

Analysis Of November Chance
January Chance is a poem written about a father and his son. In the poem, it is indicated that the
father and his son has something they needed to talk about as indicated in line 6, that long have
waited, suitably said. The author uses the term boy instead of son which can imply that there was
not a close connection between the two figures. In the first stanza, the author states, all afternoon
before them, is a metaphor used to indicate their earlier life. As previously stated, the father and his
son are not close to each other. In the phrase, with winter sounding past, it is implying that any of
the conflicts they may have had will eventually go away with time. As the voyage continues, neither
the son nor father wants to start

  • 2. Teamwork Reflection For our teamwork presentation this week, diving into the concept of teamwork and how to build and collaborate as an efficient team, we found a different sense of unity and collaboration that we were unaware of before the preparation for our presentation. For our team s main topics, we covered the differences between a teamand a group, and the vague similarities between the two. From the textbook comparisons, we consider ourselves a team rather than a group of people because of our common goals before our presentation date. We were all working together to collaborate and got our ideas across to the class to present a topic that is both interesting and informative to our fellow classmates. A team is described as a group of people that all work towards a common goal and have objectives to work towards together, rather than individuals coming together to perform and complete their individual goals. The roles that the members of our team performed were a complete collaboration of ideas and thoughts. We spoke together and did not believe that there was any set person that performed more or less than others within the group. We each put our thoughts together and created a lesson plan for the class and broke into where we felt each of our strengths were for the lesson plan of our presentation. Jordan introduced the chapter and how it was relevant to the class, as well as concluded the presentation. Alexa brought her teaching skills to light by explaining the activitythrough our lesson plan and assigned groups to go to their allotted location around the room. Following that, Nhi, Meredith and Indrit provided examples of their knowledge for our fellow peers and giving them a better understanding of the curriculum in the textbook and how we chose to relate it to our activity in the classroom. All in all, we performed as a team and built our lesson plan based on our strengths and weaknesses as a collaborating machine in our communication class. The norms that were established even before our group began, was to ensure that we were all timely about communicating with one another and to make ourselves available to give us enough time to complete the presentation in a timely manner. • 3. Judgment Model Of Cognitive Distortions The Judgement Model of Cognitive Distortions explains crime through cognitive distortions. It includes three types of judgments or acts of reasoning. These are beliefs, values, and actions. Beliefs are statements about the nature of the self and the world held by individuals, values are experiences or attributes that are deemed to be of worth and which motivate an individual s actions and actions are the product of beliefs and values. (Ward, Gannon and Keown, 2006, pg.325) The Judgement Model of Cognitive Distortions states that an offender s distorted beliefs about himself and the world give rise to offense friendly thoughts known as cognitive distortions and these thoughts enable the offender to commit a crime. (Ward and Siegert, 2002, pg.331) The model states that there are four pathways prevalent in sexual offenders that result in them committing an offense. These pathways are intimacy deficits, deviant sex scripts, emotional dysregulation, and cognitive distortions. The four pathways interact to cause the crime; however, they have their own primary causal mechanisms. (Ward and Siegert, 2002, pg.335) The first pathway, intimacy deficits, is formed by insecure attachment and an inability of the offenders to establish meaningful relationships with adults. The offenders who associate with this pathway offend at specific times and often substitute a child in place of an adult for their actions. Offenders make an inappropriate choice of a sexual partner because of their insecure attachment which prevents them from forming deeper relationships with adults. This inability enables the offenders to substitute an adult with a child and encourages them to develop adult like relationships with children. The second pathway that leads to a sexual offence is deviant sexual scripts. A sexual script is a mental representation individuals acquire during the course of their development that facilitate the interpretation of intimate encounters and guide subsequent sexual behaviours. Piaget s theory says that children try to understand the world around them in different phases as they grow. As children, they want to make sense of everything that is going on around them. Piaget also did not realize that many people never reach the final stage (formal operational period), he stated that we should all reach that stage between age 11 and adulthood (Kail, 2016). He also thought that the social environment and culture that someone is raised in did not affect the cognitive and language development of a child, this is a big weakness since he did not explore all options for why we develop the way we do. In addition, many of these documents represent a distinctly Western point of view, as they are primarily composed of missionary accounts and the literature of the various anti footbinding societies.[1] The historical origins of footbinding are frustratingly vague, although brief textual references suggest that small feet for women were preferred as early as the Han dynasty. An ardent advocate of footbinding, he introduced the practice into southern Fuijan in order to spread Chinese culture and teach proper relations between men and women, greatly influencing other writers who mention the practice as if it were normal.[6] Another factor contributing to the difficulty in assigning a point of time and origin to the practice is that the spread of footbinding was neither standardized in style nor universal in practice.[7] With local variations in method of binding, desired contours, age of initiation, paraphernalia, rituals (both public and private), shoe patterns and terminologies, it became impossible for a master narrative to emerge. Although some girls had their feet bound in the extreme and painful golden lotus style, others had their feet bound in less contorted manners that merely kept the toes compressed or limited the growth of the foot without breaking any bones.[8] In some areas and among some social groups, such as the Hakka in southern China, women s feet were generally not bound and even among the imperial courts of ... The concept of a commodity and the word itself changes meaning when dealt with in various capital industries which engage in trade. For the purpose of exploration, the meaning of commodity shall be narrowed down to an economic good, that is subject to ready exchange or exploitation within a market . A trend that is developing in entertainment media today is the objectification of women in society. Specifically in indian movies, music videos, music, and television, there is strong focus on women as sexual objects rather than women. This is detrimental to society because the media is creating social stereotypes for both men and women that can result in unhealthy social and physical habits. The issue is especially prevalent because the more the media uses sexual content regarding women, the more viewers seem to buy into them. Thus, the media is able to shape the culture s sense of dating, romance, sex, and what is ideal within society. The sexual attitudes of society are shaped and that has effects that can affect all demographics among society. Advertising and media images that encourage girls to focus on looks and sexuality are harmful to their emotional and physical health. All those giving orders and directing combat were high ranking officers who often did not set foot on the battlefield. Soldiers were encouraged to fight with honour and behave as gentlemen. Men back home e.g. Yealland, the unsympathetic, practically abusive doctor clearly had no understanding at all of the soldiers experiences, tormenting those who did not want to go back, who had mental breakdown and suffered with extreme guilt complexes because of the enormous pressure they were under. It was difficult for women, for the men too old to fight and the boys to young but so much wanting to fight, to understand exactly what the war meant and what it was like because they hadn t experienced.
